About 10 above. Rather a dark day. Snowed off & on all day. Warmed up into the 20’s. We watched the Rose Bowl Parade in A.M. & the game in P.M. Iowa beat Cal. Glen Scott died suddenly this P.M.

20º above. Rather a blizzard during the day at times. Got much colder during the day & nite. Didn't do much. Cold nite.

Sat. Jan. 3
10º below. Cold day but bright. Warmed up about 20º during the day. Dean's were here awhile in P.M. They had butchered & bro't our lard up. Cold nite.

Sun. Jan. 4
20º below. Nice bright day. Warmed up too about zero during the day, but cooled off again at eve. I went too church in A.M.

20º below. Nice bright day. Warmed up too about 11 above during the day. I tried out lard in A.M. Got about 9 qts. Went over too Olive's a little while in P.M. Marvin, Ginny & the kiddies came while I was there. They are just fine. Glen Scott was buried this P.M. Went too Lodge in eve. We had Installation. Ida was D.D.P. & I was Marshall. Nellie Falck N.G. Walt B. V.G., Dorothea Sec. & Wilma Treas. Played Bingo awhile. Had a good lunch.

Tues. Jan. 6
Zero. Nice bright day. Warmed up into the teen's. I worked at the P.O. today. Ted & Dorothy went too La Crosse. Mon went too Decorah in eve with Walt B. too Lodge. They installed officers down there.
Earned $7.06 today

12º above. Dark, damp day. Tried too snow at times but didn't do much. We went down too Dean's in A.M. after butter & eggs. Bess W. was here awhile early in eve. Arthur's bro't Bill up later in eve & left him while Ruth went too choir practice & Arthur & Dan went too a meeting too start a Boy Scout unit around B.O. Rochelle doesn't feel very well.

2º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up too about 28. I washed & ironed. Mon rode with Mert some. He went too Lodge in eve.

15º above. Nice day. Warmed up too 30. Dorothea Reid was here awhile in P.M.

Sat. Jan. 10
12º above. Nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Went down too Dean's awhile in P.M. Rochelle is better but Linda has throat trouble again. Had a letter from Isa.

Sun. Jan. 11
10 above. Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Dean's bro't the kiddies up about [1?] & left them & they went too Mr. Gilbert Gjere's funeral at the Big Canoe Lutheran church. We had fun with the kiddies. Linda & Rochelle are both better. We had a lunch after Dean's got back here.

10º above. Nice day. Warmed up too 40. I washed & ironed. Went down too Dean's after dinner. Iona pinned up my hair. Linda is better & in school.

Tues. Jan. 13
20º above. Nice day & warm up too 40. Clouded up late in P.M. & rained some in eve & was quite foggy. Mon went down home in A.M. & got a big load of wood with the tractor & wagon. I washed the kitchen curtains & the windows on the inside. We went down too Mert's in eve. Mon went too Decorah too Lodge with Mert & I stayed with Elsie & the boys. Had a lunch after the men got back. Got home about 12.

Wed. Jan.14
32º above. Foggy & damp early in A.M. but cleared off later in A.M. & was a nice warm day. I washed some of the dining room curtains & windows in A.M. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. too get his drivers license renewed. I went up too the church too W.S.C.S. Violet was supposed too have the lesson but she couldn't so Florence did that. Gloria W. served cake & coffee. Got colder in eve & the wind blew hard all nite.

Zero. Cold windy day. Didn't warm up much. I washed more curtains & windows in A.M. & cleaned & waxed the bedroom & sitting room floors. Felt bum in P.M. & eve. Mon didn't go too Lodge. He rode with Mert some during the day. Cold nite.

Fri. Jan. 16
10º below. Nice bright day but windy & cold. Didn't warm up very much. We went down too Dean's after dinner for some eggs & butter but no one was at home. I went too Decorah in eve too Lodge. Dorothea, Nellie N. & I went down with Leo & Betty. Our Lodge installed the Rebekah officers down there & we also took the Traveling Emblem too them. Had a nice time & a nice lunch. Got home about 11. Fern was sick, Nellie F. was sick & Iona was in Penn. so there was just Dorothea, Ida, Nellie, Wilma & I too do it all. Cold nite.

Sat. Jan. 17
12º below. Nice bright, windy day. Did warm up too a couple of degrees above zero. They came up from Ronald's about 2 & started our car & we went too Decorah awhile.

Sun. Jan. 18
8º below. South wind. Chilly & breezy but it warmed up during the day but was dark most of the day. I went too church in A.M. Cold nite.

10º below. Nice day. Warmed up some. I washed & ironed. Mon rode some with Mert. We went too Lodge in eve. Rode down & back with Walt's. Not many out. Had a good lunch. Cold nite.

Tues. Jan. 20
Zero. Dark dreary day. Started too snow in eve & the wind came up. Blew all nite & what snow there was drifted. Not too cold a day. Ruth had too go to Des Moines today on that "School Reorganization Plan".

2º above. Not too nice a day. Quite blustery & cool. Didn't do much.

Thurs. Jan. 22
10º below. Wind in S.W. Quite a bright day, although it did get quite blustery in P.M. Wind blew hard & the snow blew. Wind got into the north & it got much colder. I went up too the church about 10:45. The N.W. Group had a ham dinner. Pretty good crowd for the day & a very good dinner. They took in around $95. Mon didn't go too Lodge in eve it was so cold & windy. Beautiful nite but cold. Wind went down in the nite.

Fri. Jan. 23
32º below. Cold, windy day & quite blustery at times. Did warm up too a couple of degrees above zero. Didn't do much.

Sat. Jan. 24
8º above. Mon's 64th Birthday. Not too bad a day. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Came home by Dean's & got some eggs & butter. Started too snow some time in the nite.

Sun. Jan. 25
10º above. Snowed quite hard at times in A.M. 4 or 5 inches fell & just laid where it fell. Cleared off in P.M. & was nice. Arthur's, Dean's, Claudes & Leonard, Marions & Marvins were here for dinner. They all brought & we had a good dinner. Lots of visiting & the kiddies had a big time. All but the 3 youngest played out in the snow in P.M. Had a lunch before they went home. Mon got money from Arthur's & pants hangers from Dean's & nice cards.

8º above. Not so nice in A.M. Dark & looked like snow, but cleared off & was nice in P.M. I went up too the church in P.M. Some of "we Sec's" of the W.S.C.S. met & fixed out our reports.

Tues. Jan. 27
20º below. Quite a nice day. Warmed up into the 20's. Wind blew quite hard in P.M. I washed in A.M. Went too Elsie S's in P.M. too plan our Bible Study course. There were 13 of us there. She gave us a lunch of cookies & coffee.

32º above. Dark, dreary damp day. Mert was here for dinner. I went too Club at Violets with Florence. Quite a few out. Had a very good lunch. Wind got around into the north late in P.M. & it rained & snowed for a while. Wind blew hard in eve & part of the nite & it got colder. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Had a letter from Isa.

8 below. Nice bright day & cold, but it did warm up during the day into the 20's. Dean's bro't Rochelle up in P.M. & left her here while they went too Decorah. Albert Van Vleit died early this A.M.

20º below. Quite a nice day. Plenty chilly in A.M. but it warmed up (with the wind in the south) up too about 20 above. Wind came up later in P.M. Spit some snow & was rather damp in eve. I went too Lodge in eve. Played bingo awhile after Lodge & had a nice lunch afterward. Dorothea & Harry F. Rode home with Walt's.

Tues. Feb. 3
20º above. Nice & bright at times & blustery at times too. I went down too the P.O. a couple of hrs. in A.M. too stay while Ted & Dorothy went too Decorah. Went too Elsie's in P.M. with Miriam too Bible Study. 14 there. Had our first lesson today. The study of Isaiah. Florence & Josephine served doughnuts, coffee & tea. Got a birthday card & gift of a pretty wash cloth from Isa.

Wed. Feb. 4
10º above Zero. Quite nice early in A.M. but it started too snow & it really snowed hard at times. Kept it up until late in P.M. Got up into the 20's & then got cooler late in P.M. I washed but had too hang the clothes in the house.

10º below. Nice & bright at times & at times quite blustery. Snow drifted quite a little in places. Warmed up into the 20's but got much colder in eve. Cold nite. Mon went down town for Lodge but they didn't have any. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. Feb. 6
28º below. Bright day. Did warm up too about 15 above. Warmed up during the nite. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. We went over too Claude's a few minutes after supper too bid Marvin's good bye.

Sat. Feb. 7
20º above. Very nice in A.M. Warmed up almost too 40. Clouded up in P.M. & got some colder later in P.M. We went too Decorah in A.M. Claude & Olive took Marvin's too La Crosse about 7 A.M. & from there Marvin's took a plane too McGuire Air Force Base in N.J. in preparation too flying too England.

Sun. Feb. 8
10º above. My 67th Birthday. Chilly N.E. wind. Not too bad in A.M. the sun shone a little. Clouded up more in P.M. & started too mist & kind of snow about 3:30 P.M. I went too church in A.M. & then we went too Dean's for dinner. Arthur's were there too. Had a swell dinner & a good lunch before we came home. We came home about 4. The wind shield & windows got plenty icy before we got home, but the pavement nor road was slippery. Arthur's gave me a pretty pin & Dean's a nice pillow.

18º above. Not too nice a day. Dark & damp at times. Got up too about 20. Mon & Dean's went up too Harry Quandahl in P.M. & got a boar ($60.00). I went too Bible Study at Elsie's in P.M. with Miriam. 13 there. Rev. Jerdie was there too. Genev & Joyce served different kinds of bread with tea & coffee. Very good. Started too snow in the nite.

Tues. Feb. 10
18º above. Snowed almost all day & at times very hard. Wind came up in P.M. & blew quite hard. Got colder. About a foot of snow fell. Didn't do much. All the school in this part of the county were closed as were Canton & Mabel & Spring Grove. Bess Ward was here in P.M.

Wed. Feb. 11
18º below. Quite a bright day & it got up too about 20 above. Wind blew & drifted snow too. I went up too the church in P.M. too the W.S.C.S. meeting. Florence was leader & Pearl Darling served. Such good white cake & coffee.

20º above. Very nice day but quite windy. Drifted in A.M. but it warmed up too about 40 & the snow got heavy. Wind went down in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon rode with Mert some. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

10º above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up too about 40º. We went too Decorah in A.M. Elsie & Marc R. went with us. Washed my hair after dinner & went down too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. Clouded up late in P.M. & rained some in eve. I went too church in eve with Paul's. Lenten services started. The Methodist minister of Cresco was the speaker. Very good talk. "The Young Married Group" served cake & coffee after the meeting.

Sat. Feb. 14
20º above. Everything covered with a glaze of ice this morning. Sun came out & it loosened up on the paving but was still slippery around the yard. Clouded up later in P.M. Mon rode with Mert some. Arthur's bro't the boys up here about 7 & they stayed with Mon & I went with Arthur's too Decorah too Johnny Ward & Marilyn Gremm's wedding at the Methodist. Beautiful wedding & a very large crowd out. We stayed for the reception at the church parlors afterward. Had a very nice lunch & a beautiful wedding cake. We got back here about 10. Had a letter from Isa.

10º above. Sun shone some, well most of the day & the wind blew quite hard all day. I went too church in A.M.

15º above. Quite a nice day. Got up too about 25 above. Dean's brought Rochelle up after dinner & they went too Clyde Q's. Edna had a "Stanley Party". Had a good time with the young lady. They came after her about 5:30. We went too Lodge in eve. Fern, Wilma, Mon & I had oyster stew celebrating our birthdays. Some bro't sandwiches, jello & cake so we had a good lunch. 14 there. We had 1½ pts. of oysters & that was enough.

Tues. Feb. 17
18º above. Rather dark most of the day & spit snow off & on most of the day but not a lot fell. I washed in A.M. Went too Bible Study at Elsie's in P.M. with Miriam. Same number out. Charlene & Myrtle S. served sandwiches, coffee & tea.

Wed. Feb. 18
Zero. Bright most of the day & the wind blew quite hard all day. I went up too the church in P.M. with Joyce. Some of us met & made some fancy sandwiches. Cold nite.

Thurs. Feb. 19
22º below. Quite a nice day but cold. Did warm up some during the day. Ruth came up after me about 10:15 A.M. The S.W. group served dinner at the church. Ham. Very good dinner & a good crowd out. Joyce came after me about 7 P.M. & we went up too the church again. Had a Shower & Reception for Johnny & Marilyn Ward. Quite a few out. Our W.S.C.S. served sandwiches, cookies & coffee & Babe & Bess made 10 cakes (Too many)

10º below. Quite a nice day but chilly. Didn't do much. Went too church in eve with Paul's. A Lutheran minister who had been a Catholic priest spoke. He was good. Quite a few out. Had sandwiches & coffee afterward.

10º above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up too about 40. We went too Decorah in A.M. & then stopped at Dean's on our way home for some eggs & butter & Iona had dinner ready so we ate there. Got back home about 12:45. Changed my clothes & went up too the church to Dorothy & Roy Snells 25th Wedding anniversary. The W.S.C.S. served. Beautiful wedding cake. We made & served sandwiches & they had ice cream also coffee & tea. Quite a crowd out.

Sun. Feb. 22
12º above. Rather a dark dreary day but it warmed up to about 40. Started too sprinkle some in P.M. & then again in eve & then it turned too snow. I went too church in A.M. Snowed about a foot during the night & with the wind blowing there was sure plenty of drifts.

25º above. Beautiful day. Everything covered with snow but it thawed quite a little. Got up to about 40. Mon had too shovel too get out of the house (almost). All our paths drifted full & then some. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit & they found plenty of snow. Got colder in eve.

Tues. Feb. 24
8º below. Dark day. Everything covered with frost & it didn't all fall off during the day. Did warm up into the 20's. I washed & dried most of the clothes in the house again as too much snow in the back yard. Did get my ironing done too. Had a letter from Isa. Mon rode with Mert in P.M.

10º above. Not too nice a dark. Dark but not too cold. Mon rode some with Mert.

Thurs. Feb. 26
22º above. Dark in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & the sun shone. Everything covered with frost until the sun came out. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. I went too Club at Miriam's in P.M. with Florence. Quite a few out. Had a very good lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

22º above. Dark day. Snowed off & on most of the day but not too much snow fell. Warmed up during the day so it thawed some. Mon rode with Mert part of the day. I went too church in eve with Paul's. Not too many out. The young E.V.B. minister from Castalia spoke. He was good. Had a lunch afterward. Albert's got word today that Nels Samuelson, Shirley's intended, is very low with cancer of the liver, spleen & lungs. He is in Rochester. Florence went too Shirley.

10º above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up quite a bit & thawed a lot. I went too church in A.M. We went too Dean's in P.M. too celebrate Linda's Birthday. Arthur's & May, Wallace & Carsten were there too. Had quite a visit & a good lunch. The kiddies played out doors. Sliding & skiing. We got there first & Iona pinned up my hair. The children are exposed too whooping cough & they don't know but what Tommy & Rochelle may have it although they cough very little.

30º above. Snowed very hard for awhile early in A.M. Such big flakes & so very wet & heavy. Dark all day but it did stop snowing. The wind blew quite hard in P.M. Cleared off late in P.M. & was nice in eve although there were a few snow sprinkles. I washed & ironed. We went too Decorah in eve with Mert & Elsie. The G.M. of the I.O.O.F. & some other grand Officers were there & talked. Quite a large crowd out. It was for I.O.O.F. & Rebekahs & anyone else who cared too came & hear. Had a good lunch afterward. Got home about 11:45. Some cooler in eve.

Tues. Mar. 3
20º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up some. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. & they had trouble with the truck & they couldn't get it going so Ronald bro't them back too B.O. about 1:30. Mon didn't go back with them in P.M. but they did get it going about 4 P.M. Got cooler at nite.

Wed. Mar. 4
5º above. Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Warmed up & thawed some. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. I went too Bible Study at Elsie's in P.M. She is not at all well, her heart, so Rev. Gjerde had the lesson. Not all there. I rode down & back with Rosella as Miriam couldn't go. Started too snow in the nite.

Thurs. Mar. 5
20º above. Dreadful day. Snowed & the wind blew & drifted the snow. Worst blizzard in years. Most schools closed at noon & the snow plows quit about 4 & there was no travel on the pavement. Almost all roads in the state blocked. Not very cold & thats a blessing. Blizzard all nite too.

Fri. Mar. 6
20º above. Blizzard again today. Not too cold. Sun did come out in P.M. but the snow kept on blowing until the wind went down with the sun. No cars on the road. The plow went up about 8 P.M. & cars were behind that. Just one way opening in some places. About 2 ft. of snow fell during the storm & with the wind blowing so all roads were full & every thing else was too. Our back yard is really full. Mon wasn't even down town today. Got colder tonite. Around 2 ft. of snow fell during the storm & with the wind blowing so hard it piled up drifts too 15 to 20 ft. in places.

16º below. Nice day & warmed up quite a bit so it thawed quite a little. Did cloud up awhile in P.M. but was nice again in eve. Mon shoveled out some paths today & was over where Mert was trying too get cleared out around the tanks so he could get the truck in. He was here for dinner. I went too Decorah in P.M. with Claude's. Only one way road part of the way. Sure an awful lot of snow. We had some mail today first since Thurs. A.M. Iva Sheley died suddenly about 3:30 this P.M.

22º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up into the 40's & thawed quite a lot. Snow settled a lot. Snowed a few flakes in eve. I went too church in A.M. Not too many out. Roads not too good. Arthur's were up & spent the eve.

25º above. Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared up some in P.M. Warmed up into the 30's. Thawed quite a lot. We went too school election in P.M. Got cooler in eve. Great doings in the Elections. Ruth & Geo. Pfister both lost out in the Co. Board of Education. Tom Gallegher & Ward Abbott put in, in their places. That darned N.W. School District business. Glen Pierce died at Independence this A.M.

Tues. Mar. 10
5º above. Snowed some early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day. Warmed up too about 40. Thawed quite a little. We went too Iva Sheley's funeral in P.M. at our church. Mon was a pall bearer. Quite a few out. Joyce played & Ruth, Gloria & Harlan sang. Very good too. We served lunch after the funeral. Had a letter from Isa.

Wed. Mar. 11
30º above. Snowed some early in A.M. but not much. Quite a nice day. Thawed quite a little. I had W.S.C.S. here in P.M. Only 9 here besides myself. Served cake & coffee. Mon rode with Mert some. Glen Pierce was buried at B.O. this P.M. after private funeral services at the Olson Funeral Home at Decorah.

Thurs. Mar. 12
25º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up into the 30's. Dean's bro't Rochelle up about 10 A.M. & left her & they took Linda too Decorah too have her eyes tested. They got back here about 2:45. I had washed my hair & Iona pinned it up. We had coffee & cake before they went home. Mon didn't go too Lodge in eve. It got colder at nite.

Fri. Mar. 13
25º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up quite a bit & it thawed a lot. Snow has sure settled this week. We went too Decorah in P.M. Went too see Dr. Wright. Mon hasn't been feeling well for some time & Dr. said his blood pressure was very high & he would have too be very quiet. He gave him 2 different kinds of pills too take. Said there was danger of another bad nose bleed. Dean's bro't Tommy up here in eve & left him all nite & they went up too Lois Geving's too her birthday party. I went too church in eve with Paul's.

Sat. Mar. 14
29º above. Rather dark in A.M. & it started too snow about 3 P.M. Very wet snow & the wind blew too. Kept it up into the nite. Dean, Linda & Rochelle came up about 10 after Tommy. Dean split up some wood for me. Arthur was here awhile after dinner & Dean was here a few minutes again. I went down town about 3:30 P.M. Mert was here awhile in A.M.

Sun. Mar. 15
20º above. Blizzardy day until late in P.M. & it cleared off after dinner but the wind kept on blowing until the sun went down. Snow plow went up in A.M. but it didn't do much good. Drifted in as soon as it was cleaned out. Snow plow went up & back a couple of times about 3:30 & they cleaned out the road pretty good. Many cars stuck in the snow up above Lizzie's about noon & until the plows went up. Melvin Olson was here a few minutes after dinner & Ronald Webb was here an hour or so later in P.M. A lot of snow fell again yesterday P.M. & today about 10 inches & it sure piled up in bad drifts. All roads drifted full again. Didn't go too church. Don't know if there was any.

20º above. Quite a nice day. Got up too about 30. Didn't thaw too much. Mert was here a couple of times. Claude & Olive were over in A.M. & Claude shoveled out a path too the road for me. Got colder at nite.

5º below. Dandy nice day. Warmed up too about 30. Mert was here awhile early in A.M. Arthur & Ruth were here awhile in A.M. Arthur shoveled out the drive way. Dean was here awhile in P.M. I washed. Linda got new glasses today.

Wed. Mar. 18
10º above. Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Got up into the 30's. Mert was here awhile in A.M. Harvey Rolfe's was here awhile in P.M. Got warmer in the nite & thawed all nite. I ironed in P.M. Nels Samuelson died this eve (Shirley E's fiance).

Thurs. Mar. 19
40º above. Got cooler at nite. Warm day. Thawed quite a little. The snow has sure settled these past few days. I went up too the church for dinner. The N.E. Group served a very good ham dinner. Not too big a crowd out, but I suppose poor roads cut the crowd. Mert & Ronald bro't up coffee in P.M. so they & Mon had a lunch & talk. Ronald's Station burned about 4 P.M. Terrible fire. Fire trucks from Canton, Mabel & Decorah came but they couldn't save it. The oil burner in the office blew up causing the fire. They got a lot of things out of the garage, including Wallace C's truck, but nothing out of the office. His money, papers, & everything lost. Dean's were on their way up here & couldn't get through with their car so they watched the fire awhile & then walked up here. Mert was here a few minutes after the fire too. Arthur's were up awhile in eve.

25º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up into the 40's. Thawed quite a lot. Mert was here a little while before dinner & Ronald was up awhile about supper time. Olive was here awhile in P.M. I went too church in eve with Paul's. Quite a few out. Mr. Ellstead of Canton showed pictures of Morocco & other places. Very interesting. The M.Y.F. served doughnuts etc. & coffee. Wind came up about 6:30 & blew quite hard & it got colder. Cool nite.

10º above. Nice day. Thawed some warmed up into the 30's. Dean came up about 12:45 & took us too Decorah. Got right in too see the Dr. & he said Mon was much better. His blood pressure had dropped 40 points. He can move around a little more now. Len M. was here awhile in A.M. & Mert was here in P.M. Jerry Keck (Jimmie & Irene's boy) was instantly killed in a head on crash with a semi up near Harmony on 52 about 11:30 tonite. He was home on leave from the Navy. Had a letter from Isa.

30º above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up too about 50. I washed & ironed. Mon rode too Prosper with Arthur in P.M. He walked down after the nite mail. Dean was here a minute in P.M. as was Mert. Dean's bro't Linda & Rochelle up in eve & left them while they & Tommy went too a Cub Scout meeting at the Lutheran Church.

Tues. Mar. 24
32º above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 50's & thawed a lot. Creek was bank full & the pasture was covered with water. Mon walked down town in A.M. & again in P.M. Arthur & Danny bro't Billy up here in eve & left him while they went too a Scout meeting. Ruth went too Decorah. Got cooler in the nite.
Saw the first robins today.

35º. Rather a dark day although the sun did shine some in P.M. Warmed up into the 40's. Thawed quite a little in P.M. & the creek was up. Dean's came up about 10:30 & Iona pinned up my hair. They didn't stay long. Mon walked down town a couple of times.

32º. Heck of a day. Rained early in A.M. & then turned too snow. Plenty slippery until the snow fell. Regular blizzard during the day. Warmed up too the higher 30's. About 4 inches of snow fell. Very wet & heavy. Mon didn't get out at all, all day. I went after the mail in A.M. & P.M. Club at Margaret Ward's in P.M. but I didn't go. We were supposed too have Communion at the church in eve with Dr. [Gable?] but the weather was too bad. Storm let up in eve & got some cooler. Got a letter from Isa.

20º. Warmed up too about 50. Quite a nice day after the storm. Pavement was quite slippery in A.M. but it warmed up & the ice melted. I cleaned out the driveway of snow in A.M. & washed some windows & cleaned up in the sitting room.

18º. Nice day. Warmed up into the 40's. I washed windows & cleaned up the kitchen in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. Went too the Dr. He said Mon's blood pressure was down some.

20º. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 40's. Thawed quite a little. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's & Dean's were here for dinner. The kiddies sure had fun. Some tulips were showing through today.

20º. Arthur's Birthday. Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & started too sprinkle about 10:30. Turned into rain after while & rained quite hard at times. Kept it up the most of the day. I washed. We went too Decorah about 9:30 too pay the taxes. It was sprinkling when we got home so I hurried & got the clothes in off the line & put them up stairs too finish drying. Dean was here awhile in P.M. & then Mon went too Prosper with him. Addie Mitson died tonite.

32º up into the 40's. Dark damp day but not too cold. Thawed quite a lot. Creek was out of its banks in P.M. Mert was here awhile in P.M. I ironed in A.M.

38º. Rather cloudy at times, although the sun did shine some. Warmed up too about 50. Thawed quite a little. The creek was up again today. Our snow drifts are surely leaving us.

32º Warmed up too 50. Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & started too rain about 4. Rained quite hard for awhile & then just sprinkled. Got colder in eve & the wind came up & blew hard & on into the night. I went too Addie Mitson's funeral at our church at 1:30 P.M. Harlan & Gloria sang. We served lunch after the funeral. Quite a few were there. Dean was here awhile in P.M.

38º. Quite a nice bright day but quite breezy & the wind was chilly all day. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran L.A.S. in P.M. Irene F., Audrey L. & Alice Kimber served. Very nice lunch.

28º. Tommy's 8th Birthday. Quite a nice day but the wind was chilly & blew quite hard. Dried up quite a little & the snow went. Mon rode over by Ridgeway with Gordon R. in A.M. We went down too Deans' in P.M. Iona pinned up my hair. She had a small birthday party for Tommy. Billy P., Darrell Gullickson & Carsten C. Linda went over too Arthur's for her violin lesson & then Arthur's bro't her home & had lunch. Got home about 6.

Ed Arnold was here too see Mon in P.M. Olive dug some horseradish this P.M. & brought us some. I went too Lodge in eve. Iona & Walt servers. Had a good lunch. Ruth & Ronald were up for lunch. I rode with Walt's. Had quite a bit of thunder & lightning in the nite but not much rain.

30º. Quite a nice day but cool. Got up too about 50. Mert was here awhile about noon. Mable K. & Nellie N. were here awhile in P.M. I defrosted the freezer in P.M.

32º. Not very nice day. Snowed off & on lightly all A.M. Had quite a snow storm in P.M. Ground entirely covered but it didn't last long. Sun did come out later in P.M. but it was cool all day. We went down too Dean's in A.M. for eggs & butter.

40º. Nice day rather windy again. Got up too 70. Dean's bro't Rochelle up about 9:30 & left her & went too Decorah. They got back just as we were going too eat dinner so they had dinner with us. I raked some. Mon rode with Mert some in P.M.

45º. Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & rained some in eve. Got up too about 70. I raked & burned trash until about 9 A.M. & then came in & did up the work & got ready too go up too the church. Howard's came & got me about 10 & I went up & helped. The S.E. group entertained. They had a very good dinner & a good crowd although some are starting working in the fields. Ronald W. came up & got Mon in eve & he went too Lodge. First time in quite a while. Olive bro't me some Easter lilies in P.M. She had been down too their farm.

55º. Rained off & on all A.M. & part of P.M. too. Didn't warm up much. Mon took Olive & I down too Dean's in P.M. Iona had a Stanley Party. Only 10 of us there. Had lots of fun. Iona had such a good lunch. Olive, May & I did the dishes before we came home.

38º. Not too bad a day but it was chilly. We went too Decorah in A.M. Dean's bro't Tommy up after dinner & left him & they took Rochelle too Mabel too the Dr. (She hasn't been too well for the past week). Linda stayed at Arthur's She took her violin lesson. Dean's had too wait so long too see the Dr. It was almost 6 when they got back here. I got a new summer coat today at Anthony's. $10.95. All service coat.

Went up too the church in eve too the 4th quarterly Conference. Dr. Gable was there. Had cake & coffee afterward. Had a letter from Isa. Got colder in eve & froze.

35º. Nice day. Warmed up some. I raked some in A.M. cleaning up around the peony's & some in the garden. Dean bro't Iona & Rochelle up at noon & Iona washed the ceiling in the kitchen & I washed part of the walls. Washed my hair & Iona pinned it up after she finished the ceiling. Mon & I took Iona & Rochelle home about 4. I went down too the hall in eve. Alvie Pierce & Bill Fritz had a program in the lower hall advertising their M.M. Nellie N. & I fixed lunch. They finished everything. Ham sandwiches, cookies, pickles & coffee. Only 17 came up too the kitchen for lunch. I got home about 10. The men gave us $4.00 which we will turn over too the Rebekahs.

38º. Nice day. Warmed up into the 60's. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. He went down too Arthur's about 2:30 & rode the tractor for a while dragging after the seeder. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

42. Dean's Birthday. Nice day. Warmed up some. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & then he dragged for Arthur awhile in P.M.

Sat. Apr. 25
40º. Quite a nice day but the wind blew quite hard in P.M. & it was chilly. It sprinkled some in P.M. We went too Decorah about 8 A.M. & got grass seed. Came home the Bluffton rode & left it at Dean's. Got back there about 9:45. Dean was just going out too sow grain. Mon took me down there in P.M. We picked up Dan & Bill & then the kiddies & I went down on the bluffs after flowers. Not too many out yet. Guess its just been too cold. We got back up too Dean's about 3:15 & Mon came after us soon afterward. Had a lunch at Iona's.

42º. Rather a dark day with a chilly wind. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's & Dean's were here for dinner for Dean's birthday. Both the girls bro't some of the dinner. The kiddies had fun & so did Rochelle.

40º. Dark, chilly, windy day. Mert came about 8 A.M. all excited. He & Elsie have a baby daughter born about 3 this morning. 9 lbs. 12 ¼ oz. Mother & baby O.K. & Mert was high. He celebrated most of the day. Delivered fuel awhile late in P.M. Dean's brot Linda & Rochelle up here in eve & left them while they went too a Cub Scout meeting with Tommy at the Lutheran church. Rochelle was right on high all eve. They got back about 10.

45º. Nice day. Warmed up too about 70. Wind cool though & quite breezy. I washed & ironed & planted some 4 o'clock seed. Mon rode most of the day with Mert. Mert was here awhile at supper time. Edna Master's died today.

42º. Dandy nice day. Warm & not windy. Mon rode with Mert most of the day. I went too Club at Inez W's. with Miriam in P.M. Most of the members were there. Had a swell lunch. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Dean bro't a pick up load of wood up here in P.M.

50º. Nice bright day & it warmed up too about 90 but there was quite a breeze all day & it was cool. Mon took me down too Dean's about 9 & Iona pinned up my hair. He went over too Arthur's awhile & drove tractor on the manure spreader. We came home a little after 10. He went back too Arthur's & drove tractor all P.M. Mert was there early in A.M. awhile. He said Elsie is too come home today. Dean's were here a minute in eve. They bro't my Stanley stuff I bought at Iona's party.

65º. Nice day. Warmed up too about 90. Clouded up in eve. Wind blew very hard for a while. Sprinkled a little in the nite. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon went too the Dr. & he said he was gaining. We stopped at Mert's on the way home too leave a little gift & went in & saw the baby. Nice big girl. Mon went down too Dean's awhile in P.M. The boys were hauling manure there. Edna Master's was buried in P.M. this P.M. Warm nite.

Mon didn't feel like going. Played bingo & had a nice picnic lunch. I rode home with Walt's. Wind blew quite hard in the nite for awhile & rained some. Edna Wanless died this A.M. early.

Tues. May 5
62º. Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day. Warmed up too about 80. Dorothea R., Florence E. & Mert were here during the day. Mon rode with Mert some & also Mr. Jackson who took Mert's place as Mert had trouble with his truck for part of the day. I went up too the church in eve. The different circle chairmen & co chairmen met & planned the Memorial Day dinner. Florence served us date bread, cookies & coffee. She bro't me home. Had a letter from Isa. Rained a nice shower in the nite.

Wed. May 6
62º. Rained some in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was quite nice. Got much cooler late in P.M. & eve. I went up too the church about 1 P.M. Edna Wanless funeral at 2 & we served lunch afterward. Large crowd at the funeral & about 75 for lunch. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. Dorothea came up at supper time & pinned up my hair.

Thurs. May 7
40º. Rather cloudy in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day but quite windy & chilly. I washed & ironed. We went down too Dean's about 5 for some butter & eggs. I went too Cresco in eve too Lodge with Dorothea. Fern & Iona went along too. Decorah took the Traveling Emblem up there. Had a nice time & a good lunch. Got home about 11. Northern lights very bright. Cool nite.

36º. Quite a nice day but the wind was cool. Warmed up too about 60. We went too Decorah in A.M. I mowed part of the lawn in P.M. Dean's were up a little while in eve. Linda went too Decorah with Wallace's. Dean's got some potatoes too plant. Got a new dress in town. $5.95. Cool nite.

Sat. May 9
40º. Sun shone some in A.M. Sprinkled a little in A.M. Cloudy in P.M. & a cool wind. We went too Spring Grove in A.M. When we got back Mon took a new tractor battery down too Dean's. Rained after dinner & again in eve. I went up too the Lutheran church in P.M. The Joan of Arc entertained the Mothers of the community. Vivian, Margaret & I were program comm.. The Joan of Arc Mothers children were on the program. They did well. Had about 33 mothers & such a nice lunch. Had quite an electrical storm in eve. Quite a shower too. Mrs. K. came back too Arthur's today.

55º. Not too nice a day. Cloudy & windy in A.M. Clouded up more in P.M. & it really looked like a bad storm. Quite an electrical storm. Rained hard & hailed some for awhile. Dean's came up about 3 & spent the rest of the P.M. We had a lunch before they went home. They bro't me a very pretty pin for Mother's Day & Ruth gave me a pretty tray at church in A.M. I went too church. Rained again in eve.

Linda & Tommy came about 3 & Dean came in from the field then. We came on home & finished mowing the lawn.

Wed. May 13
42º. Nice day, but the wind was cool. Mon rode with Mert some. I went up too the church in P.M. too the W.S.C.S. meeting. I was the leader & Charlene served lunch dessert & coffee. Not many out. They are fixing up the land back of the church as a parking lot. Leonard was using the lot. Got the rose bushes from Gurney's we ordered. Cool nite.

36º. Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. Mon went down too Albert's early in A.M. for seed corn. Dean is starting planting this morning. I set out rose bushes & plants we got. Went down too Hauge's church in P.M. with Hazel Gullickson. Olive & Gladys Henning went too. Iona was one of the servers for the Locust L.A.S. They are remodeling the Locust church so they had too serve at Hauge's. Good crowd & a very nice lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve but no one came. Cool nite. Mon rode in P.M. with Mert.

38º. Nice day. I washed in A.M. Mon took me down too Dean's in P.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. We mowed part of the lawn after we got home. I ironed after supper. Warmed up a little today but the breeze was cool.

45. Nice in A.M. but clouded up about 3 P.M. & it sprinkled off & on a little after that. We went too Decorah in A.M. Went & got Iona & the kiddies about 1:45. Iona, the girls & I went too our church. The M.Y.F. had a program & lunch for the mothers & daughters. Quite a few out. They had a good program & a nice lunch. Tommy stayed with Mon. They came back too the church after us about 4. Had a letter from Isa.

60. Nice day. Warmed up too about 70. I went too church in A.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. too the first ball game of the season. Pretty good game. Spring Grove 4 Mabel 3.

55. Not too bad a day & not too nice. Sun shone some & it was cloudy at times. Sprinkled a little late in P.M. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. He took me down too Dean's after dinner & Iona gave me a permanent. Gave a kind of a one too Rochelle too. She didn't like it too well. Iona was just pinning up my hair about 5 when Rochelle fell out of her high chair & banged herself up well. Cut her lip & loosened some teeth. They took her too Mabel too the Dr. Linda went with them & Tommy came home with us. They got back here about 5:45 & Rochelle was in high spirits. Dr. just examined her & put some alcohol on the sores. Said her teeth would tighten up O.K. Her lip is swollen quite a bit. I went too Lodge in eve. Had a good lunch afterward. Rode home with Walt's.

Tues. May 19
55. Very nice in A.M. Warmed up into the 80's. Clouded up in P.M. & we had a nice little shower. Looked very stormy most of the P.M. & eve. Nasty night. Thunder, lightning & rain most of the night. About 1½ inches of rain fell. I washed in A.M. & then we cut out the rose bushes which had died during the winter & I hauled in dirt too cover where we cut off. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. until about 5 & then we went down too Dean's a few minutes. Rochelle seems just fine. Her lip is swollen but the cut on her chin doesn't show up so much.

Wed. May 20
Cloudy dark damp day, but quite warm during the day. Fern & Muriel were here in P.M. & we tore carpet rags for the W.S.C.S. Got a quite a lot tore. Rained in the nite. Mert R., Gilbert & Howard G. went fishing today & they bro't us a nice lot of fish.

Thurs. May 21
60. Quite a nice day. Mon rode with Mert some. I went too Harmony in P.M. with Inez too the Methodist Ladies "May Fair". Nice things for sale & lots of food too. Had a good lunch. I bought a "Mum" plant & got a grab package (1 lb. pop corn). Mon went too Lodge in eve.

60. Dark day. Cool. I put out some lily of the valleys on the north side of the house this morning. We went down home too their school picnic at noon. Quite a crowd out & we sure had a good dinner. Linda came home with us & she & I started too mow the lawn but it started too rain before we did much. We took her home about 4. Had a lunch down there. Rained quite hard after we got home.

Sat. May 23
50. Not too bad a day. Looked stormy at times but we didn't get any rain. Cleared off in P.M. & was quite warm. We went too Decorah in A.M. & came home by Dean's & bro't Linda home with us. We mowed the rest of the lawn in P.M. We took her home about 4.

Sun. May 24
50. Quite a nice day but the breeze was cool all day. I went too church in A.M. Mon took Olive & I up too the Lutheran Church in P.M. "Shower" for Ferneva Walter. Not too large a crowd. She got such nice gifts. Had a very nice picnic lunch afterward. I got a chance too visit with Maude Albertson & her daughter some.

65. Not too bad a day. Warmed up into the 70's. We went too Mabel after dinner. Mon bought another tractor & corn plow from Arlin Falck (second hand). He went down too Dean's awhile after we got home. I mowed a little in P.M.

Thurs. May 28
60. Not too nice a day. Warmed up in A.M. Sprinkled early in A.M. & then was damp all A.M. Rained quite hard later in P.M. Quite an electrical storm in eve & during the nite. I went up too the church about 8:15 & some of us moved the tables around & got them ready for Sat. Went too Club at Alice W's in P.M. with Inez. All but 1 member there & some visitors. Had a swell lunch. We took one of our shoes along & found out who our "Secret Pal" was. Inez was mine. We went down too Arthur's early in eve for a while. Got cooler in P.M.

Fri. May 29
60. Not too bad a day. Warmed up too about 80. Mon went & got Danny in A.M. & he mowed part of the lawn before dinner & finished up after. When we took him home we went on too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair. I went up too the church in eve. Some of us met & peeled potatoes & got dishes out for tomorrow. Rained in the nite.

Sat. May 30
60. Not too nice a day & not too bad. Sun shone a little. Mon took me up too the church about 8:30. We went too the cemetry before we went too the church. Our W.S.C.S. served dinner today. Started serving at 11 A.M. Had a big crowd. Took in about $300.00. Rained hard in the nite with a lot of thunder & lightning. Rained over 1½ inches.

56. Quite a nice day, but the wind was chilly. I went too Lodge in eve. 18 from Cresco & 8 from Decorah were there. Cresco bro't the Traveling Emblem. Nice work. Had a good lunch after Lodge. I rode home with Walt's. Mert was here awhile in eve. He got a new truck today. Had a letter from Isa. They brought the tractor down too Dean's today.

Tues. June 2
50. Nice day. Warmed up quite a lot. I washed & ironed. Mert went too Dubuque today too have the tank put on his new truck & Mon rode most of the P.M. with his substitute too show him where too go.

Wed. June 3
60. Nice warm day. Mon rode some with Mert in the new truck. I went up too Dorothea R's in P.M. & we planned our W.S.C.S. dinner for this month. Had a nice lunch.

Thurs. June 4
65. Dandy nice day. Warm. Mon went down home early in A.M. & got the tractor & plowed the garden. I worked in it all day. He plowed Olson's garden after dinner & then took the tractor home. A young man from Canton was here in P.M. looking at the T.V. He took it home with him too see what was the matter. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. June 5
60. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 80's. Mon went too Canton early in A.M. too see about the T.V. but it wasn't ready. Dean's bro't Linda up about 11. She started mowing the lawn. She finished about 2:30 & then Mon took her home. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran church about 3. They had a Birthday party for all who had birthday the first part of the year. The tables were decorated so pretty & they had such a good lunch. We went down too Dean's after supper & Iona pinned up my hair.

60. Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Up into the 80's. Mon took Olive & I up too the M.E. church about 1:30. Ruth had a recital of her musical pupils. Quite a few out. The children did very well. Linda played in the String choir alone on her violin & Billy played a couple of pieces on the piano. I went up too the Lutheran Church in eve with Claude's too Ferneva Walters & Dean Albertson's wedding. Very pretty wedding. Tommy was the ring bearer & did very well. Very large crowd out. We stayed for the reception & lunch afterward. Got home about 11:20. Warm nite.

68. Dandy nice warm day. Up into the 80's. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's were here a while in P.M. Duane Houdek & Dianne Peacock were married this P.M. Warm nite.

68. Dandy nice day & quite warm. I went with Dorothea R. too Postville about 12. We stopped at Rex W's in Ossian a minute on our way down. The Rebekah Convention was held at Postville this P.M. & eve. Ida H., Harry & Nellie were there too. Ida went home after the P.M. meeting but the rest of us stayed over. We had too put on the work of a member without the pass word getting into Lodge. Not too large a crowd out in the P.M. or eve. Had a very good dinner at the Prespeterian church. Had just "skits" & talks in eve & then cake, coffee & tea afterward. We left there about 10. Stopped at Rex's on our way home & stayed about an hour or more. Had more lunch there. Warm nite.

68. Dandy nice day. Warm but a nice breeze. Mon was at Dean's all day plowing corn. I planted potatoes & sweet corn in A.M. Warm nite. Roberta W. was here awhile in eve.

Ruth came & got me & bro't me home. Florence was gone so Ruth was Pres. Violet had the lesson & Inez served nut, date & grapenut bread & coffee. Very good.

65. Rather cloudy at times, but the sun shone quite a lot too. Had a nice little shower in P.M. but it didn't last long enough. Got up too about 80 but cooled off in eve. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. plowing. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

60. Quite a nice day, but the wind was chilly. Arthur bro't Danny here about 10:30 & he mowed the lawn. We took him home about 2 & then went on over too Dean's. Iona was giving Ruth a permanent. We stayed for a while. Had a nice lunch.

60. Nice day but cool. We went too Decorah in P.M. Arlin Falck & Jerry were here awhile early in A.M. Mon payed him for the John Deere. Got some tomato plants in Decorah for Fern & myself & they were here a few minutes & got theirs. Cool nite.

50. Not too nice a day. Rained some early in A.M. & then sprinkled in P.M. & looked quite stormy at times. Thunder & lightning most of the nite & it rained some too. I went too church in A.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. with Ronald W. too the ball game. Bum game. Lansing against Mabel & Mabel only got 2 scores. Cool nite.

58. Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a very nice day. Warmed up too about 80. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & at Arthur's in P.M. They started haying at Arthur's. Nina S. called me at noon that she couldn't get our hams for us for our dinner. I went up too Lydia W's in P.M. where Dorothea was. Betty, Dorothea, Lydia & Dora & I went too Decorah & Dorothea & I looked all over town too find hams. Found them at Jack & Jill. Got back home about 4:30. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a good lunch. First time Mon has been too Lodge since he was sick. Louie Headington died this A.M. Had a letter from Isa.

58. Nice day. Mon was at Arthur's all day haying. I washed & ironed. Dorothea, Joyce & Shelia Meer were here awhile in P.M.

Wed. June 17
60. Quite cool in A.M. but it warmed up in P.M. Hoed in the garden & worked at the yard in A.M. Mon took me down too Dean's after dinner & Iona pinned up my hair. I made salads & pies after we got home getting ready for tomorrow. Dorothea bro't up a ham in P.M. for me too cook. Louie Headington was buried at B.O. this P.M.

Thurs. June 18
60. Not too nice a day. Sprinkled off & on all day & still not too much rain fell. Cool day. Mon went down & got Linda early in A.M. He took us & Olive up too the church about 9:30. The Town Circle served dinner. Not too large a crowd out. Some of us fixed sandwiches & decorated tables for tomorrow night after the dishes were done. We took Linda home about 4. Mon went too Lodge but there was none.

58. Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. & Mon went too Dean's too plow corn in P.M. & then too Arthur's too hay. I went up too the church in eve. We had a "Shower" for Dwayne & Diane Houdek. Not very many out. Albert's bro't me home about 11.

58. Rather cloudy most of the day but the sun did shine a little. Rather cool. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's & Mrs. K. & Dean's were here. Dean's bro't their grill so we had hamburgers & minute steaks cooked on that besides all the other food. Picnic dinner out in the yard.

58. Rather a chilly day. Sun shone but the wind was chilly all day. Mon rode with Mert some.

Wed. June 24
60. Nice in A.M. & it warmed up into the 80's. Clouded up in P.M. & the wind got into the north & we sure had a storm. Wind blew quite hard for a while & it rained very hard. Over an inch of rain fell in P.M. Mon was at Dean's awhile in A.M. but was home for dinner. He went back there in P.M. & they put in hay until it rained. I picked a couple of quarts of berries at Olives & made some jam. Quite a little thunder & lightning in the nite but not much rain.

68. Rained most of A.M. off & on. Sun shone some in P.M. Warm & stuffy. Clouded up late in P.M. & it sure did rain in eve. Wind blew quite hard for awhile with quite a bit of thunder & lightning. About 2¼ inches of rain fell. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. I went too Club at Valeda's. Most of the members out. Had a good lunch. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Too much rain. Had a letter from Isa.

Gary Carolan, Gary McCabe & Arlin Baumler had an accident up by Paul Wanless about 9 P.M. Gary C. had his dads car & wrecked it but the boys were only shook up. Very lucky boys.

I went up too Dorothy E's in P.M. She had a party for Lucile as she & Len are here visiting. There were 13 of us there besides Lucile & Dorothy. Had a good visit & Dorothy served a swell lunch. First time I had been in their new house & its sure very nice. I went too Lodge in eve. Fern & Harry F. served lunch. Had a god lunch. I rode home with Walt's. Had a letter from Isa.

60. Very nice day & quite warm. Mon was at Dean's haying all day. I worked in the garden some early in A.M. Warm nite.

75. Quite a warm day. Rained some in A.M. & then we had a hard rain in P.M. with plenty of thunder & lightning. Over 1½ inches of rain fell today. Got cooler late in P.M. I went up too the church in P.M. too W.S.C.S. Muriel had the lesson & Violet served lunch. Rolls & coffee. Very good.

62. Quite a nice day but the breeze was cool all day. We went down too Dean's in A.M. for eggs & butter. Stopped at Arthur's on our way home & Danny came home with us & mowed lawn till noon. He & Mon went back too Deans after dinner & finished up the haying. I went up to Dorothea R's in P.M. Joyce & Alice W. were there too & we planned a "Shower" for Velda Ward. Elsie R. & the children came up in eve & stayed while Mert & Mon went too Lodge. Installation. I went up too Lens after supper & got some cabbage plants & set them out.

58. Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & it sure rained, with plenty of thunder & lightning & some hail. Didn't do any damage here but did around Bluffton. Mon was down too Dean's in A.M. & he brought Danny home with him & Danny finished mowing before dinner. We went to Deans right after dinner. Iona pinned up my hair then Linda & I went up in the woods looking for berries but didn't find many. Mon, Dean & Tommy baled the strip around the oat field & brought the bales in. Started too rain some just as they got to the barn with the last load so Iona & Linda went out & helped get it in the barn. They got it done just before it rained so hard. Hailed hard from Matters ballroom across too the [Vets?] Pavillion on too Bluffton & to Cresco. Hailed some at Dean's but no damage.

52. Nice day. I went too church in A.M. We went for a ride in P.M. down Bluffton way too see the effects of the Friday hail storm. Bad in Bluffton & out Schnitzlers way. I went with Howard & Fern & Shirley in eve too Hesper. Left Shirley with Karen Kephart & Helen Kephart & Art Lewis went with us too Prosper. The Prosper Neighbors Club had an ice cream social. Very good lunch & a good crowd. We went back too Hesper & Shirley & Karen took the car & went for a ride. We visited at Lewis's. Got home about 10:15. John [Bencher?] died early this A.M. Luella Olson, Melvin's sister, was married at the Lutheran Church in P.M.

60. Nice day. Worked in the garden in A.M. until it got too warm. Did get quite warm during the day. Mon rode some with Mert. We went down too Arthur's awhile in P.M.

58. Nice day. Warmed up quite a lot. Mon rode with Mert some. I went up too the church about 2. The Joan of Arc had an Ice Cream Social for the benefit of the cemetry at our church. Started serving at 4:30 & we had a crowd the rest of the P.M. & eve. Mon came up there for supper. I rode home with Paul's. Got home a little after 10.

Fri. July 17
60. Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained quite hard about 3. Kept it up the rest of the P.M. Very warm & muggy until it rained. I went up too the church about 8:30 with Dorothea & Betty & we made fancy sandwiches for tomorrow. Some of the ladies were there cleaning up from last night. Dean's came up after dinner & Iona, Linda & Tommy mowed the lawn. Dean mowed weeds with the sycthe. Iona pinned up my hair too.

68. Nice day. Quite warm. We went too Decorah in A.M. I went up too the church in P.M. The W.S.C.S. had a Shower for Velda Ward. Around 60 ladies there. She got so many nice gifts & all useful. We served fancy sandwiches, cookies & coffee. Dorothea R. furnished a big cake. Got home about 5. Dean's bro't Rochelle up about 7 & left her while they went too Donald Gjerre's wedding at Mabel. They got back here about 10.

62. Nice day, only it got plenty warm in P.M. I went too church in A.M. We went up too Walt Barth's about 1:30. The I.O.O.F. had an ice cream social on their lawn. Iona M. & I were there early & spread sandwiches, marked dishes & got things ready too start serving. Others came later. Started too start serving & kept it up until after 10. Served hamburger sandwiches, potato salad, ice cream, cake, pickles & coffee. Sure had a good crowd & they ate a lot of food. Took in $147.71. Mon & Mert took the money. Got home about 10:30.

68. Nice day & it plenty warm in P.M. We went up too Walt's about 8:30 & helped pick over the paper plates etc. & burn them. I went with Muriel & Fern in P.M. too Granger. We took our rags over there for Mrs. [Hustinkamp?] too make the rugs for our W.S.C.S. Went from there too Cresco & did some trading & had some root beer. Got home about 5:30. Had a nice ride.

Tues. July 28
68. Nice hot day. Quite humid. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. I had a physical check up & am O.K. Had a "Shot" too. Mon had his blood pressure taken as he isn't too peppy. Too much heat I guess. I froze some beans & peas in A.M.

Wed. July 29
70. Nice day & plenty warm. I washed & ironed. Dean & Tommy were here a few minutes in A.M. & then Mon went down there too help Dean get the binder going too swath the grain. He came home for dinner. He went back too Dean's in P.M. & was at Arthur's awhile. They are combining there. Had a letter from Isa. Warm nite.

Thurs. July 30
70. Nice day. Not quite as warm as yesterday. Mon was at Dean's & Arthur's today. I went too Ossian too Club at May Ward's in P.M. with La Vern Snell. There were 16 of us there. She served us such a nice lunch. Got home about 5:30. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Wilma & Susie Q. came & spent the eve with me. Walt stopped on his way home from Lodge & we had a lunch.

62. Nice day. Warm but not as bad as some days. Mon went down too Dean's early in A.M. Linda came home with him & mowed the lawn before dinner. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. helping with combining. Linda went up too Hovden's awhile & then the girls came up here with her & played until Mon came about 5. We took Linda home then.

60. Nice day & it warmed up plenty again. We went too Decorah in A.M. Went down too Dean's in P.M. They started combining there. Iona pinned up my hair. We got home about 5:30. Got cooler in the nite.

62. Dark day. Sprinkled some in A.M. & P.M. Rather cool. Sure had a rain in the nite with plenty of thunder & lightning. Started about 9 P.M. & kept it up most of the nite. Over 1.6 inches of rain fell. Wind blew some & the flowers were blown down & the corn in the garden was just about lain flat. I went too church in A.M.

62. Rather a dark day again. Didn't do much. It cleared off late in P.M. We went too Lodge in eve. Mon & Walt were on the supper comm.

70. Nice day & plenty warm. Rather muggy at times. Dean's bro't Rochelle up at noon & left her & they went fishing at Dresbach. We went too Decorah in P.M. I went too the Dr. Had fun with Rochelle & water after we got home. Dean's came about 6. They left us 14 fish.

70. Not too nice early in A.M. for awhile but cleared off & was a nice day. I washed & ironed. We went down too Dean's a few minutes late in P.M. We washed the car in A.M.

Sprinkled some early in A.M. but was quite a nice day after that & quite warm until about 1:30 it clouded up & looked very rainy but that blew right over & the wind got into the north & blew quite a little the rest of the P.M. & nite & it was cooler. Mon went down & got Linda right after dinner & she mowed the lawn. We took her home about 3:30 & Iona pinned up my hair. They were combining down there so Mon helped awhile. We came home about 5:30. Tommy went too Pine Bluff Camp with a bunch of Cub Scouts about 8:30 A.M. & will come home tomorrow. Mon didn't go too Lodge.

Fri. Aug. 7
62. Rather a cloudy day. Sun shone a minute or a time during the day. We left home about 7:30 & went down & got Linda & left for Mystic. Stopped a couple of times in A.M. Had a lunch at Vinton. Stopped a couple more times & got down here about 2:45. We visited the rest of the P.M. & had a good supper. A young man bro't Loyal about 8:30 P.M. & he stayed awhile. We had some visit with Loyal after he left.

Sat. Aug. 8
Cloudy cool day again. Sun came out late in P.M. We all went down too Unionville Mo. in P.M. Loyal drove Lester's car. We went for a ride in P.M. again. Little son born too Charlene & Jordan Haugland. Le Roy.

Sun. Aug. 9
Nice bright day. We went for a ride in A.M. out too a mine where Linda & Loyal took a bunch of pictures & we went on out too one of Magnells rock crusher outfits. We sat around all P.M. & eve. Loyal, Isa & Linda went too Centerville late in P.M. & did a washing at the launderette.

Mon. Aug. 10
Dandy nice day. We left Lester's about 7:30 for home. Loyal came with us & drove all the way. We stopped at Tama's & did some shopping. Stopped at Vinton for lunch. Got back too Decorah about 3 & stopped there awhile. Loyal got some jeans & a shirt so he wouldn't have too wear his uniform all the time. We got back too Dean's about 4. Stayed there a little while & then stopped at Arthur's awhile. Loyal changed his clothes & went right too work helping them with the haying. We stayed awhile & Mon helped some. We came home & had supper & then went back & got Loyal. Arthur's showed some movie pictures.

Tues. Aug. 11
Dandy nice day. Got warmer during the day. It was a little cloudy about noon but that didn't last long. We went too Decorah a few minutes in P.M. I went too the Dr. Came back too Arthur's & Mon & Loyal went too work haying so I helped Ruth. She took me over too Dean's for some eggs in P.M. We got home a little after 6 & Lester & Isa had come in P.M. They were at Claude's for supper & they didn't eat with us but they came here after we got home.

Looked stormy at times during the day & eve but didn't rain. Was quite warm during the day. Lester, Isa & I went up too Lizzie's early in A.M. Gladys was there. Mon & Loyal went too Arthur's about 9:45 & were there all day haying. They finished what they had mowed tonite. Lester & Isa went too Decorah a while in A.M. Lester took Isa & I up too the church about 1:45. Our W.S.C.S. & we had 3 conference officers & visitors. Had a good picnic lunch afterward. We went down too Dean's about 6. Had a cook out supper. Arthur's & the boys were there too. Ruth had too go too B.O. too choir practice. She came afterward. Had a lunch before we came home. Little son born too Betty & Leo Carolan early this A.M. 75. Nice warm day again. Clouded up late in P.M. some & then about 6:15 it really looked stormy. Quite a lot of wind then & then later in the eve. It sure rained with quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Rained most of the nite I guess. Over an inch of rain fell. Mon rode with Mert some. We went down too Arthur's awhile about 4:30. They had a fine trip & time too. Dean's bro't Rochelle up about 6:30 & left her & they went too the Decorah Fair. They came after her about 11 & they hadn't had much fun I guess. Too rainy too do anything.

72. Sprinkled & rained some early in A.M. Was cloudy most of the day & some cooler. Made some more pickles & that's about all I did. Rained some in the nite. Mert & Elsie left about 4 P.M. for Hakensack Minn. for a short paid vacation.

72. Nice day & very warm again. We went too Decorah in A.M. Both went too the Dr. Both had check ups & I had a "Shot". Mon went with Ronald some in P.M.

70. Nice in A.M. & quite warm. Clouded up about 3 P.M. & we sure had a storm. Wind blew hard & it rained hard. Rained off & on in P.M. then & on into the nite. Very sharp lightning & thunder in the nite. Just about 2 inches of rain fell in P.M. & eve. Dean's came up about 11 & I helped Iona pick Olive's cukes. We dug some of our early potatoes after dinner & mowed part of the lawn. Got cooler after the rain. Mert & Elsie got home this P.M.

62. Nice day with a nice breeze. Got warm but not as bad as some days. I worked at the P.O. all day. Dorothy & Louise went too Minneapolis. Club at Vivian B's today but I didn't get too go. Mon went too Mabel after supper with Mert. He didn't go too Lodge.

70. Rained some very early in A.M. but cleared off later & was quite a nice day & quite warm. I worked at the P.O. again all day.

70. Quite a nice day & quite warm. We went down too Dean's in A.M. after some butter. Dean was here awhile in P.M. He had been too Decorah in A.M. with the pick up, after feed & salt & had been run into as he went too leave the pavement going home thro' the hills. He didn't get hurt but the pick up was jammed in the back end & it threw 2 sacks of feed out & burst them so he lost about half the feed.

60. Nice day. I washed & ironed & made some pickles. Got cooler late in P.M. & eve. Florence E. fell about supper time tonite & broke her arm just below the shoulder & Albert took her right too the Hospital. Mon got a crate of peaches at Gene's today $2.00. They were sure nice.

62. Not too nice day. Rained some (about 1½ in) early in A.M. & sprinkled off & on most of A.M. Sun shone some in P.M. Cooler today. I made some plum jam in A.M. Washed my hair after dinner & we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair. Stopped at Arthur's awhile on our way home.

62. Nice bright day. Cool. We went too Decorah in A.M. & then Mon went too Dean's in P.M. & they finished the haying. Cool nite. I went down too the Hospital too see Florence & they were just taking X Rays of her arm & it wasn't feeling too good.

53. Nice day. Warmed up into the 80's. I canned peaches in A.M. & made tomato juice in P.M. Mon went down too Arthur's awhile in P.M. Arthur got a new tractor yesterday & Mon went too see it. We went down too Albert's right after supper. Florence came home this P.M. Shirley & Palma are both there. Florence looks good & says she feels good. The arm doesn't hurt too bad she said.

70. Very warm day again & rather windy. I washed windows in the bed room. We went down too Dean's in A.M. for butter & eggs. Went too Decorah in P.M. I had a "Shot" & then went too Dr. & had my eyes tested. Mon came home over the new road north of Breezy Hill & then on east past Walt Rehwinkels place & on around & came out on the Middle Hesper road & then on home. We mowed part of the lawn after we got home. It clouded up late in P.M. & looked like we might have a storm but it just sprinkled a little. Got cooler though. Had a letter from Isa.

Wed. Sept. 9
70. Quite warm early in A.M. but it clouded up about 10:30 & looked like we might have a bad storm. It blew over & the wind got into the north & got much cooler. Nice in P.M. but quite cool. I worked cleaning out the strawberry bed & pulled the onions & got them in before it got cooler. Dean, Iona & Rochelle were here a few minutes just before dinner. Mon rode with Mert part of the time today. He went down too Arthur's a few minutes. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Mrs. K. had the lesson & Jeanette Inglett served a good lunch. Florence wasn't there so Ruth acted as Pres. Cool nite.

42. Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went down home early in A.M. & got the tractor & wagon & went over too Arthur's & got a big load of boards for kindling. He took the tractor back after dinner. Miriam & Paul bro't the turkey in P.M. that I am too cook for the dinner. It is frozen. Weighs 22 lbs. 11 oz.

35. Quite a nice day, but it was cool. We went down too Dean's in P.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. I went up too the church in eve with Paul's where some of the ladies were there working. We peeled potatoes & did other things. Got home about 9:30.

38. Quite a nice day but on the cool order. Mon took me up too the church about 2 P.M. We had our Annual Turkey dinner. Started serving at 4 P.M. & finished serving about 8:30. The cooks & waitresses & others ate after that. Had a good crowd but not so many as last year. We had 20 big turkeys & used all but about 1½. They sure ate the food. We didn't do up the work after supper. Ruth bro't me home about 9:30. Mon mowed part of the lawn today.

40. Quite a nice day. Mon took me up too the church about 8 A.M. & we cleaned up the dishes etc at the church. I rode home with Anita. Canned tomatoes in P.M. & picked up some potatoes Mon dug in A.M. He finished mowing the lawn in P.M. Dean, Iona & Rochelle were here a few minutes in P.M. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Had a letter from Isa. Cool nite.

35. Cool day. Frost on everything this morning. Froze in the garden. I washed windows in the sitting room in A.M. Mon went down home early in A.M. & brought home a load of wood with the tractor & wagon. Dean came up with our car & helped unload the wood. He took the tractor back home. We went down & got him after dinner & went too Decorah. His pick up was ready too bring home. He had, had it down there too have it fixed after his accident Aug. 29. Started too sprinkle about 4 P.M. & kept it up into the eve. We had a letter from Stan's Katherine inviting us up there about Oct 10th too a Price get together.

68. Rained very hard early, early in A.M. & kept it up off & on during most of the A.M. Rather dark most of P.M. too. 3 inches of rain fell during the nite & A.M. Creek was bank full & there was a lot of water in the pasture. We went too Decorah in P.M. Both went too the Dr. I had a "Shot". Fern, Gloria & Florence were here in eve planning the lunch for the Helwig Sale. Mabelle [Daskam?] came with Florence as she is staying with her & helping out. Howard & Albert were here awhile too.

They had many nice things too sell & a good crowd. Had a nice lunch afterward but I only ate a sandwich & had a cup of coffee. Fern went along with us. Howard was here waiting for her when we got home about 10:45. Cool nite.

40. Cloudy part of the time & sometimes the sun shone. Cool day. Warmed up too about 60. I was at the P.O. all day. Mon went too Decorah awhile in P.M. I made a couple of pies in eve for the Sale tomorrow.

We went down too Dean's in eve too celebrate Rochelle's birthday. Arthur's were there too. Had a good time & a good lunch. Got home about 11. Northern lights were very bright. Our W.S.C.S. served lunch at Paul Halwegs sale today. (Naomi Snell) I couldn't help. They did quite well.

Dodgers won the ball game 4 to 3 against the White Sox. Johnny worked at his well in A.M. Ruth started teaching at the Catholic school in Decorah today. Teaching in the A.M. only. She teaches 1st graders & some in reading who need help.

50. Not very nice day. Dark & damp & dreary. I was at the P.O. Ted & Dorothy got home about 10:45, but Dorothy didn't want too work so I kept on. Ted was down in P.M. & worked at the barber shop. No ball game today.

48. Rained off & on during the A.M. & sometimes quite hard. Wind blew hard all day & nite. Lots of leaves fell. Colder in P.M. I was at the P.O. Last game of the World Series. Listened. Dodgers 9 White Sox 3. We gathered in the pumpkins & squash after I got home.

Iona pinned up my hair. Howard came after me about 6 & we went too the church. "Father - Son Banquet". Anita & I made gravy. They had a good crowd & a good dinner. Chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn, rolls, pickles, pumpkin pie with whipped cream & coffee. Howard bro't me home about 10.

45. Dandy nice day. Much warmer. I didn't go too church. Had an early dinner & Mon took me too Decorah where I took the 12:55 bus too Cedar Rapids. Visited with Muriel Manuel Sanders too Independence. Bessie had passed away suddenly last night so she was going there. Got into C.R. at 5. Got my room at the Allison Hotel, then went too Bishops for supper. Went back too the hotel lobby & met Mrs. Ashby from Red Oak & we visited & watched T.V. awhile & then some other ladies came along & wanted us too go up too the Roosevelt with them so we did. Saw some I knew. Came back & watched T.V. & then too bed.

Dandy nice day but the wind was rather chilly & it blew quite hard. Mrs. A. & I had breakfast at B's & then walked around until about 9 when we went too the Roosevelt & gave the secret work. I had a very nice lady too give it to & got through fine. We window shopped & had dinner then walked around awhile & back too the R. for a special session about 2:30. About 40 got the Rebekah Degree. Mrs. A. was one. Had some instructions & I was put on the Finance Comm. Walked around awhile with other ladies too (Had supper at B's) & then back too our hotel for awhile. Watched T.V. awhile & then too the R. for the Seating of the Assembly Officers & Grand Officers. Had some talks & some very good men singers. Had punch & cookies & then too our room about 11. Saw Mina Crause so she was with us in eve. She is at this hotel too.

Tues. Oct. 20
Dandy nice day. We were at the Assembly all day. Not too much doing. Had dinner at a new place but didn't like it as well. Went window shopping awhile after the session & then back too the hotel for awhile before supper. Went too the Harmony Cafeteria for supper. Mr. & Mrs. Crause were along with Mrs. A. & I & then we went over the river too the Coliseum too the evening meeting. Decoration of Chivalry, Grand March etc. They didn't have a dance this year but had a very good program. 22 ladies singing, a comic bunch of 5 men & they were very good, a good violinist & 4 young people on accordions. The program was very good. Saw Claude there. Got back too the hotel about 10:30. ladies took the Decoration of Chivalry. I was put on the Mileage Comm.

Wed. Oct. 21
Nice day. Warmer. Had breakfast at the Manhattan then too the Roosevelt with a nice little walk in between. Had Election of Officers in A.M. I was out of the meeting for awhile on the Mileage Comm. Had our Delegates Luncheon & the incoming Pres. talk. Had a good dinner & a good talk. Irma Steinick incoming Pres. Went too the Memorial Service in P.M. then shopped awhile. Had supper at B's & then back too the Roosevelt for Lodge & Initiation. 9 ladies initiated. It was very nice. Then after initiation more speeches. Got back too the hotel about 11:30. Had a letter from Linda.

Thurs. Oct. 22
Quite nice in A.M. but rained very hard about 1:30 & hailed. Rained off & on during the P.M. We had breakfast at B's & went too Assembly. Didn't get out of there until after 1 & had too hurry & get our checks cashed, have dinner at B's & then Hattie & I got a taxi & took our suitcases too the bus depot. She left for home then & I went back too the Assembly room for the Installation Ceremonies. Large crowd. Irma Steinick Pres. Kathryn Kelly V. Pres. Carolyn Dustin Treas. [Emma? Stokka?] Sec. I left there about 4:15 went too the bus depot & had a lunch. Left Cedar Rapids at 5. Got into Waterloo & the bus was right there & we came on too Decorah. Only 3 ladies & we got off at Davis Corners so just 2 of us on too Decorah. Got in there at 9 & Mon didn't come until after 9:30 as he expected me at 10. I got $39.36 pay at Cedar Rapids.

38. Quite a nice day. The sun shone most of the day. I went too church in A.M.

28. Cool in A.M. but warmed up some during the day. I washed & ironed. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. He went too Dean's in P.M. picking corn. We went too Lodge in eve. I gave my report from the Assembly. Fern & Harry F. served lunch. Good.

Tues. Nov. 3
38. Dandy nice day. Warmed up too about 60. Mon was at Dean's all day picking corn. I went too the P.O. a little after 11. Ted & Dorothy went fishing. Fern & Gloria W. met with me at the P.O. too plan the lunch for our Bazaar.

Wed. Nov. 4
35. Not very nice day. Rained almost all day & snowed at times too. Mon rode some with Mert. I went too Decorah in eve with Walt's (Nellie N. went too) too Lodge. I gave my report. 7 from B.O. & 7 from Cresco. Some skits put on after Lodge. Had a swell supper. Got home about 10:50. Raining very hard when we came home. Turned too snow in the nite.

Thurs. Nov. 5
29. Snowed about all day & the wind blew so at times it was a regular blizzard. Got colder in P.M. & the snow & ice froze on the pavement. Snow drifted. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran Church in P.M. too their L.A.S. They had a "Birthday Party" for those having birthdays the last half of the year & their tables were decorated so pretty. One for each of the months. Had a good lunch. Mon didn't go too Lodge in eve. Too nasty. Colder nite.

15. Quite a nice bright day but it didn't warm up too much. I went up too Olson's in P.M. & visited with Hilda awhile. Cold nite. About 5 above when I went too bed. Warmed up in the nite with a south wind.

Sat. Nov. 7
20. Quite a nice day, but didn't thaw much. Pavement slippery. Didn't do much. Johnny Wards moved into Aunt Alice's place today too stay.

Sun. Nov. 8
20. Dandy nice day. Warmed up quite a little & thawed so it was very wet. Dean's bro't the children up about 8:30 & left them & they went too Greene too Iona's cousin's funeral. Lloyd & Edna & La Vern went too. I went too church. Had fun with the kiddies Rochelle took quite a nap in P.M. & Linda & Tommy played outside with their skis & sled. Rochelle played out awhile after she woke up. The folks came after the kiddies about 6.

20. Cloudy & damp most of the A.M. but cleared off & was very nice. Thawed quite a little. I washed in A.M. Mon took Fern & I too Granger in P.M. after our rugs Mrs. [Heistinkamp?] ($6.85) made for us. We only got 4 out of all the rags we took too her. I ironed after I got home. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Nov. 10
38. Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Warmed up too about 50. Quite a lot of the snow melted. We went too Decorah in A.M. & down too Dean's in P.M. Iona pinned up my hair. Had a nice lunch down there.

Wed. Nov. 11
25. Quite a nice day. Did odd jobs. Mert was here awhile in P.M. & Mon rode with him during the day. We went too Mabel about 5:30 with Mert & Elsie too the "[Luleki--?] Dinner". Had a good dinner. We got back home about 7:30. Cool nite.

Thurs. Nov. 12
20. Not too nice a day. Started too snow in A.M. & snowed quite hard at times during the day & in the nite. The pavement got slippery. Mon rode with Mert some. He took me up too the church about 1:30. We worked getting the basement ready for our Bazaar. Not a very nice night & not a very big crowd out. Things didn't go too high. Harry Halverson & Carl Wennes cried the Sale. We served sandwiches, cake, pie, pickles & coffee afterward. Albert's bro't me home. Mon went too Lodge but there were not enough out. He stopped at "Sonny's" on his way home & won 2 ducks on a raffle.

Zero. Nice bright day. Warmed up into the 20's. Mon rode with Mert most of the day.

10. Cloudy day. Warmed up into the 20's. South wind & it blew quite hard at times. I went too church in A.M. Something went wrong with the T.V. so we couldn't use it. No picture.

Mon. Nov. 16
5. Not very nice day. Windy & cold. Sun did shine a little. Warmed up too about 13. Mon rode some with Mert. I went too Lodge in eve. We had our "Birthday Party" but it was so cold not too many out. Only 12. Olive & Gordon were our only visitors. Nellie F. & Harry were not there so Walt was N.G. Had a swell picnic lunch. Played Bingo after Lodge. I rode home with Walt's. Cold nite.

Tues. Nov. 17
-10. Nice bright day. Very cold & windy in A.M. but the wind got into the south & went down during the P.M. Warmed up into the 20's. I washed in A.M. Went up too the Lutheran church for dinner. Stayed until about 3. They had their Lord's Acre sale in P.M. Had lots of things too sell. Mert was here awhile about noon. Mon rode with him some today. Warmer tonite. Little son born too Marion & Gloriaan about 1:30 this A.M. Big boy. 8 lbs. 13 oz. Loren James.

20. Dandy nice day. Warmed up quite a little & thawed some. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. & he went too Dean's in P.M. helping pick corn. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Alice W. leader & Iona served sandwiches & coffee. Florence couldn't be there so Ruth was Pres. I went too Canton for pancake supper about 5:45 with Joe M's & Gordon & Dorothea. It was put on by the Rebekah's & I.O.O.F. We were back again about 6:30.

20. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 30's. Mon was at Dean's all day picking corn. I went too Club at Florence's in P.M. with Marilyn. Most of the members there & some visitors. Had Election of Officers. Pres. Maurice Snell, V. Pres. Joyce Baker, Sec. Bernell Snell, Asst. Sec. Vivian Breitsprecher, Treas. Charlene Haugland. Had a good lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

25. Dandy nice day. Warmed up quite a little. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. picking corn. They finished there at noon & went too Arthur's in P.M.

31. Foggy most of A.M. but was nice part of P.M. Warmed up. Sprinkled a little late in P.M. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Were home a little after 10. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. picking corn.

32. Rather a cloudy day. Warmed up a few degrees. Mon took me down too Dean's about 9:45 & Iona pinned up my hair. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. picking corn but they broke the picker so he came home a little after 4. Arthur's came up in eve & left Billy with Mon & I went too Decorah with them. The Decorah Junior High had their Fall Concert. Danny was one of the singers. Very good program. It snowed all the way down & back. Rather slippery coming home. Got home about 10.

30. Rather a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & snowed some in eve. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. picking corn. Dean, Linda & Tommy came up town in eve & Linda & Tommy came up here. They were here most of the eve. Had a letter from Isa.

8. Not too bad a day. Warmed up a little. Snowed some. Mon rode with Mert some. Pavement was quite snowy.

20. Not too bad a day. Sun shone some. Arthur came up after us about 11 & we went down there for dinner. Deans were there too. Ruth had turkey & trimmings. Iona & I took pie, salad & cookies. Had a nice lunch before we came home.

Fri. Nov. 27
8. Spit snow some in A.M. & off & on all day. I went too La Crosse with Arthur, Ruth, Bill & Mrs. K. Left here about 10 & got back a little after 3. Very large crowd in town. Mrs. K. & I ran around together. I got a new black dress (22.98) new slip, hat & some jewelry. I went up too the Lutheran church in eve with Dean's too a Cub Scout meeting. It was pretty good. Had a nice lunch.

6. Cool early in A.M. but warmed up quite a little during the day & thawed. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit. Cool nite.

Sun. Nov. 29
Zero. Nice day but the wind was cool (south) wind & it blew quite hard. Warmed up quite a bit during the day so it thawed quite a bit. Dean's brot the children up about 9:45 & they went too Greene with Si's too their Uncle Don's funeral. I went too church in A.M. Linda went up too the Lutheran Church in P.M. too practice for Christmas with the stringed chorus. We had a good time with the children. It was after 6 when the folks got back.

22. Nice day. I washed in A.M. We went too Decorah a little after 10. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. I ironed in P.M.

Tues. Dec. 1
30. Not quite so nice & bright but it was warm. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. We went down too Dean's right after dinner & Iona gave me a permanent. Mon & Dean went too Mabel. Rochelle slept until just as Iona was finishing pinning up my hair. Mon & Dean & the kiddies all came about the same time. We had a nice lunch before we came home. Duane Houdek bro't a new Zenith T.V. over in eve & took ours over too see if he could fix it up. It hasn't been working very good lately. The new one is sure a dandy.

22. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 40's. Mon rode with Mert most of the day. I washed windows & did odd jobs.

30. Dandy nice day. Warmed up too about 50. I washed windows & floors in A.M. Went too Lutheran L.A.S. in P.M. with Olive. Elsie & Pearl R. & Evelyn Schnitzler served a swell lunch. Mon rode with Mert. He went too Lodge in eve.

30. Quite a nice day with a strong south wind. Thawed some. Mon rode with Mert part of the time. I went up too the church in P.M. with Florence. Babe & Bess had a "Pink & Blue Shower" for Marilyn Ward. Florence & I helped get the lunch ready. Around 35 to 40 ladies there. Marilyn got many nice gifts. The girls had such a good lunch.

30. Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up later & was cloudy & windy all day. Got cooler. I worked at the P.O. all day. Dorothy went too Rochester. Mon rode with Mert some.

Sun. Dec. 6
20. Quite a nice day. Arthur's & Mrs. K. & Dean's were here celebrating Iona's birthday. We had our ducks roasted for dinner. I got all the dinner. Ruth had too go too Decorah after dinner to practice for the Messiah. Danny bro't his electric train & all the tracks along & the kiddies played up stairs all day with them. All except Rochelle. She entertained all of us.

17. Nice bright day. Rather windy. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit in P.M.

Wed. Dec. 9
20. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 40's. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. I went up too the church in P.M. Our W.S.C.S. meeting. Had a short business meeting & then a short program & a picnic lunch. Had our exchange of Christmas gifts with visitors. Had 11. I got a pretty corsage from Genev. Had a very good lunch.

18. Quite nice in A.M. Warmed up into the 40's. Clouded up in P.M. Mon rode a little with Mert in A.M. Dean & Rochelle came up just after dinner & Dean cleaned the kitchen chimney & it really was full of burned on soot. Mon rode with Mert after Dean's went home. Dwayne H. came at supper time too see what we wanted too do about the T.V. & Mon traded our old one in toward the new one we have been using for the past 10 days. He gave $150.00 too boot. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

32. Very foggy in A.M. Did lighten in P.M. but was dark all day, but not cold. Mon took me up too Dorothea R's early in A.M. for a few minutes. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M.

32. Another dark day but not too cold. Didn't do much.

25. Dark, dreary, foggy day with a chilly wind. I went too church in A.M. I went over too Claudes a few minutes in P.M. Marion's were there so I went over too see the new boy.

Tues. Dec. 15
30. Not too nice early in A.M. but brightened up late in A.M. & was nice in P.M. Quite warm. We went too Decorah in A.M. Bought a quarter of beef ($48.20). Came home by Deans & left part of the meat there. Mert & Dean were both here awhile after dinner. Mon rode with Mert a little while late in P.M. I went up too the Lutheran Church in eve to a program put on by the combined choirs of Burr Oak & Hesper churches. Ruth, Mrs. [Lee?], Linda, Elwood J. Gail Newhouse, [Sonja?] & Karen Anderson played. Very good program. Iona was the church until after Linda played & then they came up here where Dean, Tommy & Rochelle were waiting for them. Had a letter from Isa.

32. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 50's. I washed & ironed. I had broken off a tooth so we went over too Mabel about 2:45 & Dr. Peterson put in a new one.

28. Nice & bright & warm in A.M. Clouded up some in P.M. but cleared off again in eve. The wind came up in eve & blew quite hard. Got some cooler in eve. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. We went down too Dean's after dinner & Iona pinned up my hair. Rochelle was asleep. We stopped at Arthur's a few minutes coming home. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

20. Quite a nice day but cooler. I made some candy.

Sat. Dec. 19
22. Not too bad a day. Made some candy & doughnuts. Mon rode with Mert some.

Sun. Dec. 20
22. Snowed a little in A.M. but a lot of it melted as it fell. Ruth & Danny were here awhile before church. That North West school business broke out again. I rode too church with them. Dean's came up about 2. I was making divinity & Iona & Linda helped me drop it on the tins. They went down too Hauge's church then for Linda too practice. She is playing her violin there tonite for their program. They left Tommy & Rochelle here while they were gone. They got back about 4 & we had coffee & cookies.

22. Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off about noon. We went too Decorah in P.M. Both went too the Dr. & both are coming O.K. Did some shopping afterward. We went too Lodge in eve. We had our Christmas Party & played Bingo. Had a swell picnic lunch. I got a box of soap from Isa & Mon got a spoon tray from Gordon R.

22. Not very nice day. Snowed almost all day. About 4 to 5 inches fell. Not cold. Got up into the 30's. Made some candy. Mon rode some with Mert.

Wed. Dec. 23
28. Dark day again. Thawed quite a bit but not much of the snow. Made some candy. I went up too our church in eve too the Christmas program. Quite a large crowd out & a good program. Arthur's bro't me home. Had a letter from Isa. Dean came up after us about 12 & we went down too their school for the Christmas dinner. Quite a few out & we sure had a swell dinner. Dean & Rochelle bro't us home about 2.

22. Dark day again. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit. I made more candy. No Lodge tonight.

Fri. Dec. 25
22. Not a very nice day. Started too sleet about 10:30 & then turned too rain for a while after dinner & froze so it was slippery. We went down too Dean's for dinner. Arthur's & Mrs. K. were there too. Ruth & I took dessert. Iona had chicken & dressing & all good things. Sure had a good dinner & a good lunch before we came home. Had our exchange of gifts. I got a nice box of stationary from Iona. The kiddies had fun in P.M. sliding down hill on the south road. We came home about 5 & the pavement was like glass but Dean had put our chains on so we came home just fine. Got warmer in eve & the ice melted. Got much warmer in the nite.

42. Dark, dreary day again. Warm. Our snow was practically all gone this morning. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & they went too Mabel in P.M.

22. Nice day but cool. I washed & ironed. Mon rode some with Mert. He went too Prosper in A.M. We went down too Albert's for supper. Arthur's, Mrs. K. & Jon & Don were there too. Arthur's bro't their pictures & screen etc. over & they showed some of their pictures & some Albert's had too. Had a good supper & a good lunch before we came home. Shirley is home for Christmas vacation. Cool nite.

20. Not too nice a day. Dark & cool. We went too Decorah right after dinner. Went up too see Mr. Casey the Social Security Man at the Court House. Got home & washed my hair & we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair. We had a nice lunch down there. Cool nite.

Thurs. Dec. 31
16. Dandy nice day. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. Dean & Tommy were here a few minutes after dinner. I went too Club in P.M. with Albert's at Charlene's. All the members out. We had our Christmas Party. I got a pretty necklace from Anita & a pretty vase with a rose from my secret pal. We went down too Arthur's awhile in eve. Billy was sick. Clouded up in eve & the south wind was cool.
