12º below. Nice bright day but cold. Warmed up too about 20 above. Arthur's & Dean's were here for dinner in P.M. Had a good time. Cold nite.

Thurs. Jan. 2
10º below. Warmed up too about 10 above. Nice bright day, but cold. Mon went down too Decorah a few minutes after dinner. Arthur was here later & fixed the light on my stove. Joe, Iona, Dorothea & Fern were here in eve & audited the Rebekah books. Mon didn't go to Lodge. Howard & Shirley came up a little after 9. We got too bed about 11. Cold nite.

Fri. Jan. 3
20º below. Nice day. Warmed up during the day but still cold. Dean's brought Rochelle up a little after 9 & left her & they all went too Decorah. Linda & Tommy went too the dentist & Linda got her last polio shot. They got back here about 2:30. Rochelle slept until 1 & then was awake until the folks came but was good. Mert was here awhile in P.M. & then Mon rode with him. Dean's brought the kiddies up in eve & they went too a card party at Geo Knoke's. They came & got the kiddies about 1. Little daughter born too May & Wallace Christopherson very early this A.M. Debra Rae. 9 ½ lbs. Little son born today too Mr. & Mrs. Richard [Lawson?] (Beverly Rakow). Cold nite.

Sat. Jan. 4
12º below. Nice day. Warmed up to about 20. We went too Decorah in A.M. Washed my hair after dinner & we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned. We played Chinese checkers awhile. Had a lunch down there. Warmed up some during the nite. The wind got into the south.

18º above. Quite a nice day. Went too church in A.M. We were alone all day & eve. Cold nite.

Mon. Jan. 6
10. Very nice early in A.M. but the wind came up later in A.M. & we had a regular blizzard for awhile. Wind blew the snow around in P.M. blew hard most or all of the nite. Got much colder later in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon rode most of the day with Mert. We went too Lodge in eve. Played bingo awhile & then had lunch. Cold nite.

Tues. Jan. 7
10º below. Quite a nice day. Warmed up some. Didn't do too much. Mon rode with Mert some.

Wed. Jan. 8
Quite a nice day. Went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Ruth was leader & Violet was hostess. Not many out. Had a nice lunch. Rick & Emma Torgeson came for a visit around B.O. today.

Thurs. Jan. 9
Nice day. Dean was here awhile just at noon. He sold some pigs & stopped with the money. I worked at the P.O. in P.M. Dorothy was one of the hostesses at the Lutheran church ($3.69). Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went along. They had Installation with 13 brothers up from Decorah doing the work. The Grand Master & his wife Mr. & Mrs. Vernon Garner came just after Mon & I got there. A surprise visit too the Lodge. Some of the Rebekah's bro't lunch for the men. Mrs. Garner sat & visited with us during the eve. They are both very nice. Got home about 12. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. Jan. 10
Quite a nice day. I washed some windows. Mon rode with Mert part of the day.

Sat. Jan. 11
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon got a hair cut. We went down too Dean's in P.M. intending too stay only a few minutes but the boys were picking corn there so Mon helped most of the P.M. Until they quit in fact. The feed grinder was there in P.M. too. Ruby Rehwinkel had a very bad spell at Harold L's in eve. Scared them all very much.

Sun. Jan. 12
Quite a warm day but the sun didn't shine much. Thawed quite a little. I went too church in A.M. We went down too Arthur's awhile in P.M. The ambulance came about 9:30 this A.M. & took Ruby too the Grandview hospital at La Crosse. Thermometer got up into the 40's today.

Mon. Jan. 13
Not very nice early in A.M. Foggy & dark. Cleared off later in P.M. & was quite a nice day. About 44º. Thawed quite a lot. I didn't wash clothes. Mon was at Dean's most of the day. They finished picking corn there today. Have both cribs full & some outside & the hogs ready for market. Warm nite.

Tues. Jan. 14
32º. Quite a warm day. Sun shone some. Thawed quite a little. Dean sold some pigs this A.M. & was here a minute at noon as he went back home.

Wed. Jan. 15
Rather a dark day. Not cold. I washed in A.M. Clothes didn't dry very good so I had too hang them up stairs too finish drying. Mon rode with Mert quite a little.

Thurs. Jan. 16
Dark damp day. I ironed in A.M. A little cooler today but not cold. Mon rode with Mert part of the day. He went too Lodge in eve.
Gas tank went dry this morn.

Fri. Jan. 17
Chilly dark day again. Dean took some pigs again this A.M. & stopped a minute on his way home. They bro't Rochelle up about 1 & left her while they went too Decorah. She slept most of the time. They got back about 4. Mon rode some with Mert. Olive & I went up too our church in eve too a party for Mr. & Mrs. John [Bessingpass?] (They bought Ben Lodgon's place). Not too many out. Ruth bro't us home.

Sat. Jan. 18
Chilly day again. We went too Decorah in A.M. I went too the Modern Beauty Shoppe & had my hair trimmed, washed & pinned up. We got home about 12:30. Rained some in the nite.

Sun. Jan. 19
Not too nice a day & not too bad. Pavement covered with ice this morn, but it warmed up in A.M. & the ice thawed. Started too snow just after dinner & snowed quite hard part of the time. I went too church in A.M.

Mon. Jan. 20
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off partly later in the day. Mon has quite a cold & doesn't feel very well. I went too Lodge in eve. 9 up from Decorah. They Installed our officers. Nellie N. N.G. Nellie F. V.G. Ida H. Sec. & myself Treas. We had a lunch afterward. I rode home with Walt's. Got colder in eve. Had a letter from Isa. Dean sold some more pigs this A.M. & was here for awhile about noon.

Tues. Jan. 21
12º. Quite a nice day. Warmed up too about 23. I washed in A.M. Went over too Phyllis W's in P.M. with Florence. Some of the Sec's met too make out their reports. Had a nice lunch. I ironed after I got home.

Wed. Jan. 22
Rather cool early in A.M. but warmed up during the day. Dandy nice day. I started working at the P.O. today. Dorothy & Ted started for Kansas City this morn & go on from there too Alabama too see Evelyn. Mon feels better today.

Thurs. Jan. 23
Dark day but not too cold. I was at the P.O. all day. Went up too the M.E. church for dinner. The N.W. circle had their ham dinner & it was good. Large crowd out. Mon feels better but he didn't go too Lodge.

Mon's 62nd Birthday. Dark frosty day. Every thing covered with frost all day. Chilly but the thermometer was down so much. I was at the P.O. all day.

Another dark foggy cool day. Mon went too Decorah awhile in A.M. I was at the P.O. all day. Had a card from Dorothy. They were in Kansas City when she wrote the card yesterday.

Snowed early in A.M. some. Dark day again but not very cold. Went too church in A.M. Snowed some in eve.

Not such a bad day & still not too nice. Sun did shine some & it snowed some off & on during the day & nite. I was at the P.O. all day.

Snowed off & on all day. Sun did shine a little. I was at the P.O. Dean & Mon went too Mabel & Canton in P.M. looking at refrigerators. Mon went too Spring Grove in A.M. with Ronald. We went down too Deans a little while in eve.

Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off before noon & was a nice bright sunshiney day. I was at the P.O. Bessie W. washed for me today & I ironed in the eve. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Had a letter from Isa today. Ben Wicks passed away tonite. Cold nite.

5º below. Nice bright day but cold. I worked at the P.O. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. Cold nite.

Sat. Feb. 1
8º below. Quite a nice bright day, but cold. I was at the P.O. Mon went too Ben Wicks funeral at the M.E. church in P.M. He was one of the pall bearers. The W.S.C.S. served lunch afterward. Anita took my place up there & went ahead with the lunch. Cold nite.

Sun. Feb. 2
About zero. Rather blizzardy for awhile in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice but cold. I went too church in A.M. Dean's were here for dinner. Washed my hair after dinner & Iona pinned it up. They went home about 4:30.
Donna Lovstuen & Alvin Vine were married at the Lutheran church tonite.

8º below. Nice day. Real cold when I went too work at the P.O. but warmed up too 30º during the day. Ted & Dorothy got home about 4 P.M. They were at the P.O. a while & then went on home. Linda called at supper time that Rochelle had a tooth. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch.

Tues. Feb. 4
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur & Ruth were here a little while in P.M. They had been too Harmony & traded cars. They got an Olds. Looked good. Mon went too Decorah in eve too Lodge with Mert.

Wed. Feb. 5
10º above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 30's. Thawed. Mr. Hardy was here in A.M. trying too sell us an Amana. Dean sold the last of the pigs this A.M. & stopped here awhile on his way home. We went too Decorah in P.M. & looked at refrigerator freezers at different places. Dean was down looking too as their refrigerator has gone blooy. We went back too Hardy's & bought an Amana. Dean bought a Wizard refrigerator. Bessie & Donnie W. were here in eve. Our refrigerator cost us $506.05 + tax.

8º below. Nice bright day but the wind blew quite hard all day & it was cold. Didn't do much. We went up too the church for supper. M.Y.F. served a pancake supper & it was very good. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Cold nite.

15º below. Nice bright day, but cold. They brought our refrigerator freezer up about 9:30 & set it up. They took our Frigidare down too Dean's for them too use until they get their new one. Cold nite.

Sat. Feb. 8
10º below. My 66th Birthday. Nice day at times & at times it was blizzardy but not much snow fell. Quite windy & chilly. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Went down too Dean's for dinner. Had a good birthday dinner & then lunch before we came home. Rochelle sets in the high chair some now. Arthur & Danny were here a few minutes just before we went too Dean's. Got many nice Birthday cards & a pair of stocking from my secret pal. Cold nite.

Sun. Feb. 9
20º below. Cold day but bright. Warmed up to about zero. Windy. I went too church in A.M. Bad accident north of Lizzie's in P.M. Jimmie Whalen with Sonny McCabe's pick up rammed head on into a young man's car from Ohio. Jimmie was hurt real bad, the other young man had some ribs broken & was hurt otherwise. The ambulance took them both to the Decorah Hospital & later took Jimmie too Iowa City. Cold nite.

15º below. Cold. Quite a windy day, but bright. Up too about zero again today. Had a letter from Isa. Beautiful Northern Lights in eve. Most brightly covered I've ever seen. Cold nite.

Tues. Feb. 11
10º below. Nice & bright most of the day. Wind blew hard all day & the snow blew some. Warmed up too about 10º above. Dean was here a few minutes in A.M. Cold nite.

Wed. Feb. 12
5º below. Warmed up too about 13 above. Wind blew hard & the snow blew some. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Marilyn entertained & Muriel had the lesson. Had a good lunch. Not many out. Warmer tonight.

8º below. Nice day. Warmed up too about 30º. Wind didn't blow so hard today. I washed this morning & we went too Decorah about 9:30. Got the Income Tax Papers. Got home about 11:30. Dean's bro't Rochelle up about 1 & left her while they went too Decorah. Had fun with her, but she slept a good bit of the time. They came after her about 4. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Geo. Brown died this A.M. Rose Brown was here awhile about supper time too see about our serving a lunch at the church after the funeral.

Fri. Feb. 14
Quite a nice day. Not too cold. I went down too Anita's early in A.M. for a while. Mert has a new truck & had too take it too Chatfield too have some work done on it so Mon drove his car up there & brought him home in A.M. Mon went down home & hauled up a big load of wood in P.M. Got much colder tonight. Wind blew quite hard.

15º below. Nice bright cold day. Warmed up too about zero. We went too Decorah awhile early in A.M. Noreen Ward went with us. Mon got a hair cut. Mon took me up too the church about 12:30. Florence & Anita came soon afterward & we got the lunch ready too serve. Geo. Brown's funeral at 2 P.M. Quite a few out. About 40 there for lunch. I rode home with Anita. Washed my hair as soon as I got home & then Mon took me too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. We got a jumper for Rochelle in Decorah today & took that too her. Cold nite.

30º below. Nice bright day but cold. Didn't go too church. We were alone all day. Cold nite.

30º below. Nice bright cold day. Dean couldn't get his pick up started this morn so Arthur drove him up too Donald Stead's & got a boar for us. Mon & Dean went along. Mon took Mert too Chatfield in P.M. & Mert drove his truck back. We went too Lodge in eve. Leon M. & Babe F. were on the supper comm. but Fern, Wilma, Mon & I bought oysters too celebrate our birthdays so we had soup as well as their cake & sandwiches. Played Bingo awhile. Got home about 11. Not quite so cold tonite.

10º below. Nice bright day but the wind was so chilly. Warmed up too about 10 above. I washed in A.M. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. I washed & waxed the bedroom floor.

10º below. Nice day. Warmed up into the 20's. I ironed & wiped up the sitting room floor & waxed it. Mon rode with Mert in P.M.

Thurs. Feb. 20
8º below. Nice & bright day & it warmed up into the 30's. Clouded up late in P.M. but still warm. Wind in the south & quite breezy. Mon took me up too the church about 10:30. The S.E. Circle served dinner. Not so many out as they looked for but they took in over $80.00. Very good dinner. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

About 30 above. Rather dark & damp in A.M. & it snowed a bit in P.M. Wind got into the north again late in P.M. Cleared off in eve & was nice. Some (8) of the ladies met here in P.M. & we tore & sewed rags for rugs for the W.S.C.S. Got quite a little done. We went too the dance at the hall in eve. Good crowd out & they had a good time. Cooler at nite.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Thawed a lot. I went too church in A.M. Billy came home with me. Arthur & Ruth went too Manley too Bernard & Gerald's. Danny stayed with Elwood Jarstaad. Ruth came up in eve & she & I went too church. First in the Lenten Services. Not too many out. Billy went home with her.

Dandy nice day. Into the 50's. Thawed a lot. The creek was bank full. I washed & ironed. Mon rode with Mert a good bit of the day.

Dandy nice day. Into the 50's. Thawed a lot. A good lot of our snow is gone from these days of thawing. We went down too Deans after dinner & Iona gave me a permanent.

Wed. Feb. 26
Nice in A.M. & part of P.M. but clouded up late in P.M. & rained in eve. Wind blew quite hard in eve. Warm. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. We went down too Dean's in eve too celebrate Linda's Birthday. Arthur's were there. Ruth had too go too choir practice but she came afterward. The kiddies had a big time. We had a nice lunch. Got home about 11:30.

Thurs. Feb. 27
Linda's 11th Birthday. Rather a dark, damp day but quite warm. Mon took me too Club at Lillian's in P.M. Most of the members out. Had a good lunch. Mon went down too Arthur's awhile in A.M. He went too Lodge in eve. Got some cooler late in P.M. & eve.

Fri. Feb. 28
Not too bad a day. Spit snow at times but not much fell. Mon was at Arthur's in A.M. awhile helping vaccinate calves. I went too a "Stork Shower" in P.M. at the Lutheran Church for Mable Hovden. Quite a few out & she got such nice gifts. Had a nice lunch afterward. Arthurs bro't the boys up in eve & left them while they went too Decorah too the High School play "Pajama Game". They said it was good. They got back up here after the boys about 11.

Sat. Mar. 1
Snowed some early in A.M. & the pavement was covered but it quit snowing before noon & thawed the pavement but it was plenty sloppy. We went too Decorah for a little while about 12:30. Got back too B.O. about 2 & I went too Anitas too a meeting, planning our W.S.C.S. dinner which is coming up. 8 of us there besides Anita & Grace. Anita gave us a nice lunch.

Dark day again. Not cold. I went too church in A.M. We went down too Arthur's in P.M. but there was no one home.

Rather a dark day although the sun did shine a little. Not cold. Mon rode with Mert most of the day. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch & played Bingo awhile.

Tues. Mar. 4
Rather a dark day again although the sun did shine a little while in P.M. & was nice in eve. Mon rode with Mert some. I went too Elsie's in P.M. First lesson in our Lenten Bible Study. 10 out. Had coffee & cookies. We went down too Dean's about 5. He had had a calf & hog butchered & Mon helped him get it in the garage. Iona & Rochelle were at Edna Quandahl so just Dean, Linda & Tommy were there. Mr. Sinclair did the butchering at Dean's.

Wed. Mar. 5
Snowed almost all day. About 2 inches fell. Not cold so it thawed. Didn't do much. Mon rode with Mert some. Cleared off in eve.

Thurs. Mar. 6
12 above. Dandy nice day. Warmed up into the 30's. Thawed a lot. We went too Dean's a little after 8. Mr. Sinclair came & cut up the meat. We wrapped Deans meat & got it in their deep freeze. Wrapped ours too. We got home about 3 & put our meat in the freezer. Mert & Harold were here a few minutes after we got home & then Mon went with them too help change some oil barrels at schools. Dorothea R. was here a few minutes late in P.M. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Mar. 7
Rather cloudy most of the day but the sun did shine some. Wind blew quite hard. I washed & ironed. Mon rode some with Mert.

Sat. Mar. 8
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. I washed my hair right after dinner. Dean's came up about 12:30 & Iona pinned up my hair & then they went too Decorah & left Rochelle here while they were gone. They came back about 5. Had a letter from Isa.

Sun. Mar. 9
Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Mert, Elsie & the boys were here & spent the P.M. Arthur's came up in eve & left the boys with Mon & I went too church with them. Not too large a crowd out.

Dandy nice day. Mon went down home early in A.M. & got a load of wood. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Not too many out. Charlene had the lesson & Anita served lunch. Such good sandwiches & coffee. The W.S.C.S. gave me a Past Presidents pin for being Pres. the 4 years. It is very pretty & I was sure surprised.

Snowed all day but not hard so only a very little lay on the ground. Didn't do much.

Dark day & cool. We went too Decorah in A.M. Fern went with us. Mon went too Mabel in P.M. & got a hair cut. Had a letter from Isa.

Not too nice a day & not too bad. Sun didn't shine very much. I went too church in A.M.

Not too bad a day & not too bright. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. awhile. I went too Bible Study at Gloria W's in P.M. About the same number there. Had a good cake & coffee. We went too Lodge in eve. Mon & Nellie F. served. Floyd Arnold died this A.M. early.

Tues. Mar. 18
Not too nice a day & not too bad. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. cutting wood. Arthur's bro't the boys up & left them awhile in eve while they went up too the Coffee Shoppe at Canton too dinner celebrating her birthday.

Wed. Mar. 19
Not too bad a day. Sun shone most of the time but the wind was chilly. I made rolls in A.M. for tomorrow. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & P.M. cutting wood. I washed my hair after dinner & went back with him & Iona pinned it up. Floyd Arnold was buried at Davenport today.

Thurs. Mar. 20
Nice day. Mon was at Dean's cutting wood. I went up too the church about 9:45 with Claude & Olive. The town Circle served dinner. We had ham, mashed potatoes, ruta baga's, baked beans, salad, home made rolls, pickles, pie & coffee. Cleared around $100.00. Had a good big crowd. Florence bro't Olive & I home & we stopped too see Josie C. a minute on our way home. She is not very good. So thin.

Fri. Mar. 21
Quite a nice day. Warmer but still the wind was cool. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. but they went too Decorah in P.M. so he rode with Mert part of the time. Anita came up in P.M. & we wrote Easter Cards for the Club.

Nice day but the wind was cool. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon didn't go down too Dean's in P.M.

Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's came up in P.M. & left Bill here & then I went too church with them. Danny sang with the Junior Choir. It was good.

Nice day. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & P.M. I ironed in A.M.

Nice day. Mon was at Arthur's in A.M. helping ring pigs & then at Dean's in P.M. Mon dug some horseradish just after dinner & I fixed that in P.M. Couldn't get too much as the ground was frozen so hard.

Thurs. Mar. 27
Nice day. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & then went back a little while after dinner & they finished the wood. I went too Club at Marilyn's in P.M. with Florence. Most of the members were present. Had a good lunch. Dean came with our bacon & ham just after I got home. Just got it from Wepler's. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Nice day. We moved the meat around in the freezer too make room for the bacon & ham. Took some of the beef down too Dean's. Didn't have room for all of it here. Went too Decorah about 10. Mon went down too Arthur's in P.M. helping him put the cover on his corn crib. Little son born to Mable & Lynnfred Hovden this P.M.

Arthur's 41st Birthday. Nice day. I went too church in A.M. We, Arthur's & Dean's were at Claude's for dinner celebrating Arthur's & Leonard's birthdays. She had turkey & all the trimmings. Very good dinner & then a good lunch before we left for home.

Dandy nice day. I washed in A.M. & went too Bible Study at Inez's with Miriam in P.M. About the same number there. Inez served us good sandwiches, pickles & coffee. I ironed after I got home. Mon raked quite a bit of the yard. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Apr. 1
Not too nice a day. Sun shone in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & sprinkled some. Wind blew hard all day. Mon rode with Mert most of the day.

Wed. Apr. 2
Rained off & on all day. Sometimes quite hard. Didn't do much. Mon went with Mert some. They went too Decorah in A.M. too get a pick up load of tractor grease & delivered some of it.

Thurs. Apr. 3
Quite a nice day but windy. Mon went too Decorah again this A.M. with Mert after more grease. Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went too church in eve with Ruth too communion service. Not too many out.

Fri. Apr. 4
Tommy's 7th Birthday. Not very nice day. Dark, damp & windy. We went down too Dean's about 1:30 too Tommy's Birthday party. Arthur's were there too. Had a good lunch. Iona pinned up my hair.

Dandy nice day. Cool early in A.M. but warmed up quite a bit. I washed & ironed in A.M. Went too the last of the Bible Study periods in P.M. with Miriam at Muriel's. We have been studying the Book of Mark. We went too Lodge in eve. Joe M. & I served. Mon rode most of the day with Mert.

Tues. Apr. 8
Dandy nice day. Left home about 7:30 A.M. with Florence, Phyllis, Muriel & Leta L. for Independence too a W.S.C.S. North Iowa Conference. Charlene took Marilyn, Juanita, Fern & Anita. Fern & Anita stopped off at Edna's & spent the day. We got down there about 9:40. Large crowd out. Had dinner there at the church (Not too good.) Left there about 4. Stopped at West Union for a lunch on our way home. Got home about 6:30. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. ringing sows. Josie Cox passed away about 4 this A.M. Donnie Ward had his leg broken at school this A.M.

Quite a nice day. Cloudy at times. Mon rode with Mert some. I went too W.S.C.S. Meeting at the church in P.M. Florence was leader & Iona M. served. Not too many out. Had a nice lunch. Stopped too see Donnie Ward on my way up too the church. I raked yard after I got home.

Quite a nice day. We worked in the yard for a while in A.M. I went too Josie Cox's funeral in P.M. at our church. Rev. Swanson spoke & Ruth & Juanita S. sang. Large crowd out. I raked yard after I got home. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Nice day. Mon rode with Mert some in [P.?].M. He was at Dean's awhile in A.M. Dean's went too Decorah in P.M. & left Rochelle here. Had a good time with her. She didn't have time too sleep, only little cat naps.

Nice day. We went too Decorah awhile early in A.M. Lizzie went with us but she stayed down town & didn't come home with us. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. I raked some. Mon came home about 4 & we cleaned up some in the back yard. Had a letter from Isa. They will be leaving Davenport Mon. too live at Mystic where they have bought a place. Lester quit his job at the Arsenal yesterday. Harlan was married again & they have taken the boys too live with them.

Up into the 70's. Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon rode with Mert most of the day. We did clean up some more late in P.M. in the back yard.

Tues. Apr. 15
Up into the 70's. Nice day but quite windy. I washed wood work in A.M. Mon went down too Dean's & Arthur's in A.M. Dean went & got a corn stalk chopper just after dinner & took it to Arthur's. Mon went down there & run it all P.M. Arthur plowed. Florence was here a minute in P.M. Mon lost his ring today.

Wed. Apr. 16
Nice warm day. Up as high as 80. Quite a breeze. Mon was down too Dean's awhile in A.M. I washed my hair & we went back too Dean's right after dinner. Iona pinned up my hair. We stopped out in the field at Arthur's too look for Mon's ring, where he thought he might have lost it, but didn't find it. Arthur was plowing. Dean was using the stalk cutter. I went down too Percy's awhile after we got home.

Thurs. Apr. 17
Nice day. Quite warm again. Mon was at Arthur's using the stalk chopper until after dinner. I went up too the church about 10:30. The N.E. Circle served dinner. Ham again. Had a good crowd for such a busy time. Good dinner. I went too Cresco about 6:30 with Dorothea. Joe & Iona, Fern & Nellie went too. Decorah took the Traveling Emblem too the Cresco Rebekah Lodge. They also had Initiation. Cresco initiated Archie Crabtree. Quite a few out. Nice work by both Lodges. Had a nice lunch. Got home about 12.

Nice day but a little cooler. We went too Spring Grove early in A.M. too get a piece of the tractor welded. Mon was down too Dean's awhile then after we got home. He went too Dean's in P.M. again & plowed. They went too Decorah. We burned off the piece of ground by the garden after he got home. Sprinkled some in the nite.

Looked rainy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice warm day. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Mon took me down too Dean's about 12:30. We stopped & picked up Dan & Bill. Mon came back too town & he & Ronald W. went too Decorah to a ball game at Luther. Dan, Bill, Linda, Tommy & I went down on the bluffs after flowers. We spent most of the P.M. down there. Got back too Dean's after 4, then had to wait for Mon. Had a lunch after we got back too Dean's. Mon came about 6 & Iona had supper ready so we all ate there. I helped Iona with the dishes. We got home about 7.

Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Stayed for dinner as we had a dinner honoring Paul & Josephine Powers for their 25th Anniversary. Had a swell dinner, and a short program afterward. Quite a few out.

Quite a warm day. Quite cloudy at times but didn't rain. Mon went down too Deans early in A.M. with Mert & rode with him for awhile. When he came home he started spading up a place in the back yard for some potatoes & peas. We worked at it again in P.M. til we got it finished & the potatoes & peas planted. We went too Lodge in eve. Not many out. Had a nice lunch that Iona bro't. Nellie N. was supposed too serve to but she was sick in bed.

Nice day. A little cooler. I washed & ironed. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. after he got back from Dean's. Dean did the seeding today. Lizzie was here awhile in P.M. Mon went too Mabel in P.M. & got a hair cut.

Wed. Apr. 23
Rather cloudy in A.M. & then it started too sprinkle & then rain. Rained quite hard at times in P.M. We started fixing the bed room & sitting room. I tore off paper in the bed room & got part of the sitting room done. Mon painted the bed room. Had a letter from Isa. Got colder late in P.M.

Dean's Birthday. Nice day but cool. I tore off paper in A.M. & finished. Mon painted. I went too Club at Norma Oyl[?]i's in P.M. with Anita. Not too many out. Had a nice lunch. Very good. We went down too Deans a few minutes after supper. Cool nite.

Fri. Apr. 25
Frost this morning. Ground frozen some. Quite a nice day. Mon finished painting this A.M. & I wiped up the floors. We went down too Arthur's awhile in eve. Cool nite but not as cool as last nite.

Sat. Apr. 26
Rather a cloudy cool day. We went too Decorah in A.M. I went down too see Nellie Nelson in P.M. She is feeling some better but not very good yet. Stopped in at Kate's a few minutes too.

Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Rev. Swanson was sick so Mrs. S. & Ruth & her S.S. class had the service. They did very well. Leonard W. & Loyal Mc. came late in P.M. & stayed a little while & then Loyal came back just before we had supper & stayed a while. He was on vacation & had been up in Canada, but was on his way back too San Francisco & his job. He looks good & is a big man. It rained some in the nite.

Rather damp early in A.M. but cleared off later in the day. Cool & windy. Didn't do too much. Mon rode with Mert some.

Ground froze this morn. About 20º this morn. Coldest on record. Nice bright day but cool & quite windy. It did warm up during the day. I washed in A.M. Washed my hair after dinner & Mon took me down too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. Mon went back too Arthur's & helped him awhile.

Wed. Apr. 30
About 35º this morn. Nice bright day but windy & it was cool. I left home about 7:15 with Florence & Albert. We picked up Juanita S. & Phyllis W. & left for Cedar Falls. Got down there a little after 9. Went too the North Iowa Conference at the M.E. church. They served us doughnuts & coffee when we first got there. Large crowd out & a good program all day. Saw the Arnolds. Had a very good dinner at the Lutheran church. Got through about 3 & Eleanor Erickson came & got us, as Albert had spent the day there. We went out too their house & visited awhile. They served us a nice lunch before we came home. Got home about 7. Mon was at Arthur's until in P.M. & then he went too Decorah for a little while.

Nice warm day but quite windy again. Mon was at Arthur's again hauling manure. He brought Iona & Rochelle up about 9:30 & she & I washed the kitchen ceiling & walls. We finished at noon. Mon came & took them home about 1. Mon came home about 3:30. He went too Lodge in eve.

Not very nice day. Dark & damp all A.M. Rained quite hard for awhile in P.M. & sprinkled on into the nite. Mon was at Dean's until after dinner hauling manure. Had a letter from Isa.

Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. too help again. I fixed some flower beds in P.M. & got some seeds in. Marvin called his folks from Madison Wis. about 2 wanting them too meet him at Rochester at 4 so Claude, Olive & Leonard went after him. We were over there a while in eve. Little son born too Kathy & Eldon Vine tonite.

Nice day but cool. Went too church in A.M. Claude's took Marvin back too Rochester about 4 A.M. so he could get an early plane back too Madison.

Quite a nice day. Although it was cloudy at times. Went down too Inez W's in P.M. with Anita where 7 of us met too plan the W.S.C.S. dinner for May 30th. Had a nice lunch afterward. Mon rode some with Mert.

Thurs. May 8
Nice day. Mon rode with Mert part of the time. He went too Canton in eve too Lodge with Mert.

Fri. May 9
Nice day. Windy. Mon took me down too Iona's early in A.M. & she pinned up my hair. He went back down there in P.M. & plowed. Mon bro't the tractor up when he came home. I went up too the church in eve. A young minister was there, The one that may be our minister another year. Not too many out. We had a light lunch afterward. I rode home with Paul's.

Sat. May 10
Nice day. Mon plowed the garden early in A.M. & then he took the tractor home & Dean bro't him back. We went too Decorah a little while. Mon went too Dean's in P.M. too plow. I went up too the M.E. church. The Joan of Arc entertained the Mother's in P.M. About 25 or 26 out. They had a nice program & a good lunch afterward. Got a card from Arthur's & a pretty scarf from Dean's.

Mother's Day. Beautiful day. Very warm up into the 80's. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's came after us about 11 & we went too McGregor. Up on the Heights & had our picnic dinner & spent the P.M. watching the boats on the river. Large crowd there. We got home about 5.

Nice day. Washed & ironed in A.M. & planted some garden in P.M. Mon was at Dean's awhile in A.M. Very warm day & warm nite. We went down too Albert's in P.M. & got the seed corn.

Tues. May 13
Nice day although cloudy at times. I planted some glads & flower seeds in A.M. Washed some windows in P.M. Went over too Eldie's in P.M. too see the new baby. Nice big boy with plenty of red hair. Looks like Eldie. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. & took the seed corn. He was down there again in P.M. Dean started planting corn this P.M. Had a letter from Isa. Mon mowed part of the lawn in P.M.

Wed. May 14
Quite a nice day. Warm & windy. I washed windows in A.M. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. He went down too Dean's in P.M. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Gloria W. had the lesson & Myrtle Snell served cake & coffee. We finished mowing the lawn after I got home. Got 2 tanks of gas this P.M.

Nice day. Windy. Washed & waxed sitting & bed room floors. Mon was at Dean's awhile in A.M. I washed my hair in P.M. & we went down too Dean's about 3. Iona pinned up my hair. Mon helped Dean roll up the planter wire. Dean got done planting about 3:30. Earl DeLay passed away about 6 P.M.

Sat. May 17
Cloudy in A.M. & rained some but cleared off pretty much in P.M. until eve we had quite a bit of thunder & lightning & some rain but not nearly enough. We went too Decorah in A.M. awhile. It rained quite hard down there just as we came home but it had only sprinkled some here. Young Eunice called after dinner wanting me too make the arrangements for Earl's funeral so we went too see Rev. Swanson, Ray Brown about the grave digging, Lillian about the grave & then down too Babe's (no one home) stopped at Mettie's & then too Arthur's & Deans. Rochelle has a very bad cold. Lizzie & Maxine were here awhile after I got home. Got cooler in eve. Mrs. Krumm got back too Arthur's today.

Nice bright day but quite windy & cooler. I went too church in A.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. too a ball game. Mabel & Harmony. Not very good game. Mabel won.

Windy, dusty day. I washed & ironed & also cleaned & waxed the kitchen floor. Mert & Dean were here awhile in P.M. Electricity was off over an hour in P.M. I went too Lodge in eve. Cresco bro't the Traveling Emblem over (Church) 27 over from there. Their work was beautiful. 9 up from Decorah & 11 from B.O. Had a good lunch afterward. Got home about 11. Cool nite.

Tues. May 20
Nice day but terribly windy & cool again. Aunt Eunice, Vinc, Eunice & the boys were here a few minutes in A.M. We went up too the church about 1 & a bunch of us started getting things around for lunch. Earl's funeral was at 1:30. Rev. Swanson spoke & Ruth & Juanita sang. Leonard, Arthur, Dean, Jimmie K., Parnell H. & Lawrence D. were pall bearers. All the folks were up from Davenport but Ruth & Clarence. Many, many beautiful flowers. Had a lunch afterward & the folks all stayed for it. Cool nite.

Wed. May 21
Dandy nice day. Much warmer & not much wind. I baked cake & buns etc. getting ready for tomorrow. Aunt Eunice, Vinc & Eunice & Lizzie were here awhile in P.M. The DeLays were on their way home. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit of the day.

Thurs. May 22
Nice bright day. Quite cool in A.M. but warmed up some in P.M. Mon & Mert plowed our garden spot that we had left for potatoes in A.M. with a motor garden plow Mon borrowed from Jimmie Darling. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & most of P.M. I had Club in P.M. 26 of us. Dean bro't Iona & Rochelle up & Olive was here for visitors. Quite a noisy club. We found out who our "Secret Pals" were. Fern was mine. Dean bro't Linda & Tommy up with him when he came after Iona & Rochelle. They had lunch here. I went up too the church in eve too a party for Mr. & Mrs. Billie Reid. Quite a crowd out. They had a nice program & a grand lunch. The kids got some nice gifts & quite a lot of money. Florence bro't me home. Got home about 11. Mon went too Lodge. Cool nite.

Fri. May 23
Nice day but windy. We went down to the home school too their picnic. Had a swell dinner & most of the neighbors were there. We planted potatoes & corn after we got home. Cool nite.

Sat. May 24
Looked rainy & we did get some little rain showers in A.M. & again in P.M. but not enough too do any good. Just a drink for the plants. Cleared off later in P.M. & was nice. We went too Decorah in A.M. It rained quite hard down there just as we were coming home. I went up too the church in P.M. Ruth had a recital of all her music pupils. All the mothers & grandmothers were invited & some others. The children did very well. She served cookies & Cool Aid afterward. Quite a few out. We mowed the lawn after I got home.

Sun. May 25
Nice day. I went too church in A.M. We went down too Dean's & Arthur's in P.M. but no one home either place. We went on for a short ride then. Dean's were up awhile in eve. Iona cut my hair. Rochelle played on the floor with Tommy & took the play things away from him. No baby any more.

Nice in A.M. & very windy. Clouded up about noon. Had a nice little shower after dinner. Sun shone some in P.M. Looked quite rainy in eve but didn't rain. I washed & ironed in A.M. Mert went fishing today & left Mon & Melvin Olson taking care of the "oil business". They were out some in A.M. but not in P.M. Mert bro't us 6 or 8 nice fish. I went over too Phyllis W's in P.M. with Anita. We made out our last reports of the year of the W.S.C.S. Phyllis gave us a nice lunch.

Tues. May 27
Quite a nice day but very windy again & rather cool. Mert went fishing again today so Mon & Melvin took care of the truck. Not many calls. We set out tomato, pepper & cabbage plants early in A.M.

Wed. May 28
Nice day but rather cool & quite windy again. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. We went down too Dean's in P.M. & Iona gave me a permanent. They went too the Graduation Exercises at Mabel this eve & left Tommy & Rochelle with us. Rochelle was so good while they were gone. Cool nite.

Thurs. May 29
Cool in A.M. but warmed up quite a bit during the day. Mon rode with Mert most of the day. I fixed food for tomorrow. Went up too the church in eve & peeled potatoes & got things ready for tomorrow. Mon went too Lodge.

Fri. May 30
Nice part of the day. Had a nice rain about 1. Not hard at all. Mon took me up too the church about 9. The whole W.S.C.S. served a Ham Dinner at noon. Large crowd out & we had a good dinner & plenty of it. Charles P. & Lucile B. came for dinner after everyone was through. We sat & visited there awhile & then they bro't me home. Mon wasn't at home so they didn't stay. We took in over $200.00 at our dinner.

Not very nice in A.M. Dark & cool but cleared off some in P.M. Still rather cool & windy. Primary Election Day so Mon left about 7 for the Hall. I went with Jo [Darling?] in P.M. on the "Cancer Drive". We took the 2 younger children along. Had pretty good success. Got home about 4:30. I went too Lodge in eve. Not too many out. We played Bingo afterward. Gordon R., Merlin Barth & Inez came up after Lodge. Had a swell lunch too. Dorothea & Nellie N. served. Inez came home with me & stayed until the men came from Election which was about 1.

Tues. June 3
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Sometimes quite hard. Cool. Dean's came about 8 & left the children here & they went on too Si's & then fishing. We had a good time. It was about 6:30 when they came back. They bro't us some fish. Quite a bit of sharp lightning & thunder & rain again. Had a letter from Isa. Had a letter from Aunt Eunice too.

Wed. June 4
Looked rainy off & on all day & nite. Did rain quite hard early in A.M. but cleared off after while. Rained again in eve. I went too Decorah about 12 with Dorothea R. Fern & Nellie N. went too Rebekah Convention. It was held in the new I.O.O.F. hall. Very nice place. Quite a large crowd out. 80 in P.M. & 109 in eve. Had a very interesting meeting in P.M. & the Initiatory work by Decorah in eve was very good. We had our 5:30 dinner at the Congregational Church parish house. (Not too hot). Ruth Padden was there in eve so got too visit with her awhile. The Rebekahs served cake & coffee after the meeting. Got home about 11:30.

Thurs. June 5
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Ruth & Bill were here a few minutes after Bible School & Dean & Tommy were here awhile in P.M. Mon bought a new rotary mower & we mowed the lawn with it in P.M. The dandelions & June grass were so bad. ($60.00). Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. June 6
Quite a nice day. Didn't do too much. We went down too Arthur's in eve. Dean's were there too. Roger is there so we had a visit with him. Ruth served a good lunch. Got home about 11. Cool nite.

Sat. June 7
Cloudy & damp all day. Rained quite hard for a while after dinner. We went too Decorah in A.M. I washed my hair after dinner & we went down too Dean's, Iona pinned it up. Art Haugen was there awhile too about the T.V. Had a nice lunch before we came home. One of the best cows died this A.M. she left a nice baby calf.

Sun. June 8
Rained early in A.M. & looked rainy afterward. Rained again some in P.M. but cleared off late in P.M. & was quite nice. I went too church in A.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. too a ball game. Mabel 3 Waukon 2. Arthur's took Roger too Rochester about 5:30 & Danny stayed here. I went up too the church in eve with Howard's. Rev. Swanson showed films of the Hospital at Independence. Not too many out. Mon went down too Dean's early in A.M.

Rained quite hard about 5 A.M. & then off & on for a while in A.M. Wind blew quite hard. Duane H. came over in A.M. & fixed a wire on our aerial & put on some other new wires. I picked some strawberries this A.M. Claude & Olive went too Marie's this noon. Mon rode with Mert some in P.M.

Wed. June 11
Cloudy at times. Rained some in A.M. but was nicer in P.M. Warmed up in P.M. some. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Violet had the lesson & Valeda served lunch. Had a good lunch. 14 out.

Cloudy most of the day & did sprinkle some in A.M. I picked a qt. of berries. Gloria Ann came up in A.M. & picked the berries at Claude's & I helped her about an hour. Mon took me down too Ruth's about 3. She, Joyce & Shirley E. had an announcement party for Shirley. Had a very nice lunch & everything was so nice. Shirley is too be married to Nels Samuelson. She gave each of the guests a long stemmed red rose. About 25 there. Mon went too Lodge in eve. He mowed the lawn in P.M. Claudes came home about supper time.

Fri. June 13
Nice day. I picked 3 qts. of berries. We worked in the garden some. Went down too Dean's a few minutes in P.M. They left Tommy & Rochelle here in eve while they went too the Big Canoe church too Lois Gjerie & Larry [Gevings?] wedding. The kiddies went too sleep before they got back which was about 11:30. Cool nite.

Sat. June 14
Quite a nice day. Did look cloudy at times but no rain. We went too Decorah in A.M. I picked 3 qts. of berries in P.M. & did some baking.

Sun. June 15
Rained some very early in A.M. but was quite a nice day but rather cool. I went too church in A.M. Rev. Swanson's last Sun. Arthur, Ruth & Danny & Dean's were here for dinner. Billie was sick so Mrs. K. stayed with him. Linda got her finger pinched in the car door last night so it was really sore & looked bad.

Tues. June 17
Quite a nice day although it was cloudy at times & it was cool. Didn't do much. Mon went down too Arthur's awhile in A.M. He rode with Mert in A.M. Rained some in the nite.

Wed. June 18
Quite a nice day but the breeze was cool. It did sprinkle a couple of times in P.M. but only a sprinkle. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. until about 4 & then he went down too Arthur's. They started haying there about 3:30. Cool nite.

Thurs. June 19
Not too nice a day & not too bad. Mon was at Arthur's helping hay but he did come home & got himself some dinner. I went up too the church about 10 with Ruth. The S.W. Circle served dinner (Ham) Good crowd out & a very good dinner. Took in over $106.00. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. & Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. haying. We went up too the church for supper. The M.Y.F. had an Ice Cream Social. They served potato salad, Made Rites, sundaes & strawberry short cake as well as pickles & coffee. Cool nite.

Not too nice a day. Cool. Rained a little in P.M. I went too church in A.M. Our new minister Rev. Jerta preached. Good talker. We went too Mabel in P.M. too the ball game. It rained for awhile & held up the game but they went on & finished it. Mabel won over Rushford. Cool nite. Ruth Padden, Harriet & Otto were here a few minutes late in P.M.

Mon. June 23
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Picked about 3 qts. of berries. The last. Mon was at Arthur's haying. Dean got his hand hurt in the baler. Cool nite. It sprinkled a little about supper time. Mrs. Chas. Wernett was here a few minutes in A.M.

Tues. June 24
Cool day. Rather nice early in A.M. but clouded up about noon & it rained quite a shower just after dinner. We went down too Dean's early in A.M. Tommy came home with us. Dean took a couple of sows too Mabel & Linda went along with him. They both went too the Dr. with their hands. He opened Linda's finger & took out a lot of that dead blood that was under the nail since she got it shut in the car door. He dressed Dean's hand that he got hurt yesterday. Tommy picked berries for himself to eat. We set out some strawberry plants where some had died. It rained again in eve & nite. Quite a bit of rain fell. Marvin, Ginny & children came too Claude's about 5 P.M.

Cool, windy day. Didn't do too much. Set out some ground cherry plants early in A.M. Mon went down too Arthur's in A.M. but no one home. He rode with Mert some in P.M. Had a letter from Isa. Cool nite.

Thurs. June 26
Quite a nice day. Somewhat warmer. Mon went down too Arthur's about 10 too hay. I went too Club at Fern's in P.M. with Anita. Not all the members were there. Had a "shower" for Mrs. Bob Breitsprecher's baby girl. She got nice gifts. Had a swell lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. June 27
Nice day. Mon went too Arthur's right after dinner too hay. Howard & Fern were here awhile in eve.

Sat. June 28
Nice day. Much warmer. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Mon went too Arthur's about 10:30 too hay. He got home about 4 & then he took me down too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair. Warmer nite.

Warmer today. Cloudy most of A.M. & rained some about 11. Nice in P.M. I went too church in A.M. We went over too Claude's for dinner. Marion's & Harry & Vera were there too. Had a kind of a picnic dinner & a good one.

Nice day. Much warmer & quite windy. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. They finished haying there this P.M. Marvin's went too Marie's today. Warm nite. June was a very cool & very dry month.

Tues. July 1
Had a hard rain from about 6 A.M. until nearly 7. Over an inch of rain fell. Was cloudy at times but the sun shone most of the day. Very warm & muggy all day. I went up too the church about 8:30 & worked til noon. We went down too Dean's a few minutes in P.M. Mon went too Decorah in eve too Lodge with Ronald W. & I went along & stayed with Elsie R. Claude & Mert went along with Ronald too. We got home about 11:30. It rained some in the nite & was a warm nite. Marvin's came back today.

Quite a nice day. Very warm. Mon went down too Dean's a few minutes. He rode with Mert some. Warm nite.

Thurs. July 3
Cloudy most of the day. Sun shone some. Warm. Dean was here a while in A.M. & then Mon went down there awhile. He mowed the lawn in P.M. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran Church in P.M. too their Aide. Irene F., Rose B., & Arlene Z. served lunch. Had a good lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve. It rained some in eve & then about an inch in the nite.

Rather cloudy & damp early in A.M. but cleared off later in A.M. & was quite a nice day but cool. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mrs. K. & Danny went with us. Mon went too Dean's in P.M. too fix the mower.

Quite a nice day but cool. I went too church in A.M. We went too the Phelps Park for a picnic for Marvin, Ginny & the kiddies. Ginny's relatives & Marvin's. Quite a few out. Had a good dinner. We stopped at Lucile Brown's on our way home. Charles P. was there so we visited with them for awhile.

Tues. July 8
Quite a nice day although it was cool. A little cloudy at times. Mon worked in the garden some early in A.M. & I worked most of the A.M. then. We went too Dean's in P.M. Iona pinned up my hair. The men hayed. Iona & I planted some beans & gathered beans & peas & potatoes for her. We had our first new potatoes today for dinner. Had a letter from Isa. Cool nite.

Quite a nice day. Mon was at Dean's all day working at the hay. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Roberta U. had the lesson. Dorothea R. served sandwiches, pickles & coffee. Cool nite.

Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Cool. Mon went down too Dean's awhile in A.M. & then came home & mowed the lawn. Tommy came home with him & was here for dinner. They went back right after dinner & hayed. I went up too the Lutheran Church about 3. The Joan of Arc had an Ice Cream Social for the benefit of the cemetry. Had a good crowd. Sold almost everything. Took in over $115. Got home about 10. Cool nite.

Nice day. Mon was at Dean's haying.

Nice day. Much warmer. Mon was at Dean's all day haying. They finished the big fields.

Sun. July 13
Nice day. Warm but a nice breeze. I didn't go too church. Arthur came after us about 10:45. Mrs. K & Billy was with him. We met Dean's at the 4 corners & Tommy came with us & we went too Lansing. Had our dinner there at Lansing Heights. Had a good dinner. Arthur's & Dean's took their grills & beef steak so we had that with all the rest of our dinner. Just laid around & visited until about 3:30. We came home with Dean. Tommy & Billy rode back home with us. All met here at our house & they got their families straightened out.

Mon. July 14
Not very nice day. Rained a little around noon & then we had quite a hard rain about supper time. Looked like we might have a bad storm but it went around us. We got about ½ in.

Tues. July 15
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. He went down too Dean's awhile in P.M. Dean was here a minute in A.M. He said Linda has the measles but is not sick. Cool nite. Got much cooler late in P.M.

Wed. July 16
Nice day but cool. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & went too Dean's & Arthur's in P.M. where they baled some hay & oats they had cut around the grain fields.

Thurs. July 17
Cool day. Sun shone most of the day. Mon had bro't home a couple of young roosters last nite, so we dressed them this morn & I froze 1½ of them. Had a half of one for dinner. Mon went too Dean's in P.M. awhile. Rained some late in P.M. & again some in eve. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Cool nite. I had a fire in the sitting room in eve.

Fri. July 18
Sprinkled a little in A.M. early but turned out too be quite a nice day. Mon was at Dean's awhile. They bro't the children up here in eve & they went too a card party. Linda & Tommy stayed all nite but they picked Rochelle up on their way home. She was quite fussy all eve. Warmer today & eve.

Sat. July 19
Rather cloudy early in A.M. but was quite a nice day & warmer. We took Linda & Tommy home about 9:30 & then went on too Decorah. Dean's came too Decorah too. Washed my hair after dinner & went too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. Rochelle was fussy today too.

Quite a nice day. I went too church in A.M. We sat around all P.M. Went down too Arthur's awhile in eve. Rochelle is well broken out with the measles.

Tues. July 22
Nice day. Mon went down too Dean's early in A.M. & got the pick up. Tommy came back with him. We picked up the pick up load of junk. We had dinner & then took the load of stuff down too Dean's to the sink hole with it. Stopped at Dean's awhile. Rochelle doesn't feel very well. She sure is well broken out. I went up too the church for awhile in eve. We planned our Date Books for the coming year of the W.S.C.S. Rode home with Rosella H.

Wed. July 23
Nice day. Much warmer. Mon rode awhile with Mert this A.M. We washed & waxed the car in P.M. Didn't get done until after 5. We went down too Dean's a little while after supper. Rochelle is still fussy but not broken out quite as much. We stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way home.

Thurs. July 24
Dandy nice day. Warm. We left home about 8:10 A.M. Stopped in Decorah & Mon got his hair cut & then we came on too Mystic. Had a lunch on our way down (New Sharon). Stopped a couple of times too stretch. Got down here about 3:30. We rode around some after we got here. Went down town & got some things. Had a good supper & visited until about 10. Rained some in eve.

Fri. July 25
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Went for a ride in A.M. & went on too Centerville. Got a chicken too fry for dinner. Sat around all P.M. & visited. Went for a ride after supper. Saw more of Mystic. Sure a spread out town & so many hills & trees. Went out too see the quarry which Mr. Magnell is working.

Sat. July 26
Dandy nice warm day. We went down into Missouri in A.M. Did some shopping in Unionville & then stopped at Centerville on our way back & bought some under shirts for Mon. Watched the ball game for awhile & then Lester, Isa & I went down town too a Parcel Post Sale & lunch the church was putting on. I got a pretty doiley & Isa got a nice towel from the parcel post. We had pie & coffee too. Watched T.V. in eve & also visited.

Sun. July 27
Had quite an electrical storm early in A.M. with quite a hard rain & wind. We played pinocle awhile in P.M. After supper we went for a long ride out around the country side.

Mon. July 28
Rained hard early in A.M. but cleared off & was a beautiful day. We got up early & had our breakfast. Left Mystic at 7 for home. Stopped at Tama for coffee & got some gifts for the children. Stopped at Independence for dinner, then at Decorah a little while & then got home about 2:45. We changed our clothes & went down too Dean's. Rochelle is pretty good now & Iona is feeling much better. Stopped at Arthur's on our way home. They were combining there. Jon & Don Price got there a little after 12 too spend awhile.

Tues. July 29
Nice warm day. I picked peas in A.M. & beans in P.M. & froze some of both. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. some & went too Arthur's in P.M. Inez W. was here a few minutes late in P.M.
Gas tank went dry this morn.

Wed. July 30
Looked rainy off & on all day. Sun shone some too. I left home about 8:30 with Fern & Shirley & Mrs. Kephart & her daughter. Big Bargain Day in Decorah & we shopped around there for a while & then went on too Calmar & stopped at Mrs. K's daughters (Mrs. Elroy Nash's) awhile & then on too Ossian where we left rags at Mrs. [Luenberger's?] for her too make rugs for our W.S.C.S. Came back to Decorah & shopped awhile again. Got home about 3. Worked in the garden awhile after I got home. Mon was at Arthur's in P.M. They finished combining at Arthur's this P.M.

Thurs. July 31
Nice day & warm. Mon was at Arthur's in P.M. & I went too Club at Elsie's in P.M. with Miriam. Not all members there. Had a good lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve but not enough out too have Lodge. Mon was late getting home. They were haying.

Nice day, but very hot, up into the 90's. Not too much breeze. Dean's bro't Tommy & Rochelle up about 9:30 & left them while they went too Greene too a family picnic. Si, La Verne & Sharon went with them. They got back about 6. Had a good time with the kiddies. I didn't go too church. Cooled off some in the eve & nite.

Mon. Aug. 4
Nice day. It did look stormy early in A.M. but didn't do anything. Warm day but a nice breeze all day so it wasn't as bad as yesterday. Mon was at Arthur's & Dean's in A.M. getting ready too combine at Dean's. He was home for dinner. He went too Dean's in P.M. & they combined. It was nearly 6:30 when he got home. He went too Decorah in eve with Brayton too a meeting too see about a fire truck for rural Winn. Co. I went too Lodge. Fern & I served. Mon got back there just after we had lunch. Got home about 10:30. Bad storm about 11. Wind blew terribly hard & it rained quite hard. Power went off at 10:55. I defrosted the freezer this morn. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Aug. 5
Rather cloudy early in A.M. but didn't rain any more. Quite a nice day & warm again. Mon rode with Mert some. We went down too Dean's about 5:30. Arthur's came over (Mrs. K. too), also Jon & Don & Iona served us a "cook out" supper. Hamburgers & weiners cooked on the grill with potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, pickles, cake, jello, coffee & nectar. We took some pop down too. Sure had a good feed & the kiddies had a big time. We all had a good time. Came home about 10. Got cooler later in eve but was quite warm at the time we were eating. Rained some in the nite.

Wed. Aug. 6
Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Warm. Mon was at Arthur's awhile in P.M. I went down too the hall in eve where some of the Rebekah's met too plan something for taking the "Traveling Emblem" too Decorah. I rode home with Walt & Wilma.

Thurs. Aug. 7
Had a shower very early in A.M. Looked like a rather bad storm about 8 but it went south of us. Was cloudy most of the A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Mon left here at 5:30 A.M. going too Decorah where he took a bus, with quite a few from B.O., & went too Milwaukee too a ball game. He got home about 12:30. Jon & Don were here a few minutes in eve. Little daughter born too Kathy & Roger Powers today.

Fri. Aug. 8
Nice day only plenty warm. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Arthur's in P.M. helping hay. Jon & Don left for home early this A.M.

Sat. Aug. 9
Nice day & hot. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Ole A. rode back too B.O. with us. Mon went too Arthur's as soon as we got home & was there the rest of the day haying. They finished up for awhile. Got a [bag?] of peaches in town today.

Sun. Aug. 10
Nice most of the day & plenty warm. I went too church in A.M. Went too a ball game at Mabel in P.M. Ronald W. went with us. Not very good game for the last one of the season. Mabel got beat quite badly. Looked quite stormy when we came home. We got a nice little shower awhile after we were home & then in the eve we got quite a storm. Wind blew hard & it rained hard. About 2 inches of rain fell.

Nice day & plenty warm. Mon was down too Arthur's in A.M. awhile & then we were down there awhile after supper. I canned some peaches in A.M. Warm nite.

Tues. Aug. 12
Nice most of the day although it did cloud up about noon & looked like we would get a storm but it just rained a little. Cooler in P.M. & got quite cool in eve. I washed & ironed. Arthur & Ruth left on a trip early this A.M. Mon goes morning & nite too do chores. They took their cow over too Dean's & left her for him too milk while they are gone. Had a letter from Isa.

Wed. Aug. 13
Nice day & plenty warm. Mon did chores at Arthur's. He built me a cupboard down cellar too put my fruit in. Billie came home with him in A.M. when he came back from chores. (Mon drives the pick up back & forth.) They took a load of junk too the sink hole after dinner & then Mon went with Ronald delivering gas. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. Shirley E. had the lesson & we had a pot luck lunch. Had some visitors. Had a good lesson. I went with Mon when he went too do chores in eve & then we went over too Dean's a few minutes. Rained in the nite.

Nice day & cool. Mon did chores. Mrs. K. & the boys came up with him & went too S.S. & church. I went too church & they came up here for dinner. We took them home about 4 & then Mon went back later & did the chores.

Nice day & plenty warm. Mon did chores. Rode with Mert some too so he wasn't home much. Warm nite. Had an electrical storm in the nite & we got about 4/10 of an inch of rain. Had a card from Arthur's.

Nice day but cooler. Mon did chores. He took me down too Deans in P.M. & Iona gave me a permanent. We stopped at Arthur's on our way home & Mon did chores. Had 2 cards from Arthurs. Cool nite.

Nice day & cool. Mon did chores in A.M. Arthur's got back here around 11 A.M. They stopped a minute. Had a nice trip. We went down there awhile after dinner. Inez W. was here awhile in A.M. & Rev. Senecal's were here in P.M. They are on vacation. We went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge & I went up too the hall kitchen too meet with some of the Rebekah's but no one came but Iona M. so she went home & I sat in the car & waited for Mon too come from Lodge. Cool nite.

Fri. Aug. 22
Nice day. We went down too Dean's in P.M. & Linda & Tommy & I went up in the woods & got some black berries. Wandered around quite a little in the woods. Its nice too get out there. We went down too Brayton's in eve. Anthony McCabe & Byron Knox were there & the men talked "Fire Truck". Frances & Chas. Miller were there for awhile. Inez gave us a nice lunch. Got home about 12:30.

Sat. Aug. 23
Nice day but cool. We went too Decorah in A.M. Cool nite. Mon went too Mabel in P.M. & got a hair cut. Bad accident down by Breeze Hill about 6 P.M. Marcella Brooks was killed & her husband & children were hurt.

About 38º this morn. Quite a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & sprinkled some & again in eve. Warmed up some. Froze some of the leaves on squash & pumpkins. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. & got a new tire. Iona, Dorothea & Nellie N. were here in eve & we tried too prepare something for the Rebekahs too take too Decorah (Traveling Emblem). Joe came up awhile before we were through. Had a letter from Isa.

Cloudy & rainy in A.M. Rained quite hard at times with quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Cleared off in P.M. & was quite nice. Warmer. I went too Decorah about 12:30 with Dorothea, Nellie N. & Iona too Marcella Brooks funeral. We were with the Decorah Rebekah's. Went too the cemetry with Bea F. & then back too the church for lunch. Large crowd out too the funeral & beautiful flowers. We got home about 4:45. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. & they hauled a load of boards etc. up in the pick up.

Thurs. Aug. 28
Dandy nice day & plenty warm. Mon went down too Dean's awhile in A.M. I went too Club in P.M. at Donna Kruse's. Merle S. took Elsie, Valeda, Fern & I. Not too many Club members out. Had a swell lunch. We rode home with Maxine & then Mon & I took Fern home. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Not too bad in A.M. but rained some in P.M. Mon was at Dean's in P.M. until it rained, haying.

Rather damp off & on during the day. Very warm & muggy in A.M. We went too Decorah in A.M. Got a crate of pears. $1.79. Mon went too Dean's in P.M. & they finished baling what hay was down. Got much colder in P.M. & the wind blew quite hard. Cool nite.

Nice day. Mon helped me pick the chickens early in A.M. & then he went too Arthur's about 8 too help vaccinate & ring pigs. He took me too Dean's in P.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. Mon & Dean went too Mabel awhile. Iona got a new Maytag dryer this A.M. Mon didn't go too Lodge tonite.

Not very nice day. Sprinkled in A.M. & rained some too. Rained quite hard at times in P.M. & then about 6:30 it just poured down & again about 11. We went too Decorah in A.M. Took Mrs. K. along. I went down too Eunice Kirkeby's in P.M. with Olive & Claude too a "Shower" for Gloriaan. Not many out but she got some nice gifts. Had a nice lunch. Went too Decorah in eve with Dorothea R. B.O. Rebekahs took the Traveling Emblem down there 12 were there from B.O. Not many out from Decorah. Had a nice lunch. Got home about 11. Had a letter from Isa.

Quite a nice day. Cooler. Didn't do much. Mon took Olive & I up too the church in P.M. & we cleaned up stairs. Didn't take long.

Nice day. Quite warm. Mon was at Arthur's all day haying. I did some extra washing in A.M. Made some more plum preserves, canned 3 qts. tomatoes & 1 qt. dill pickles.

Nice day. Mon dug some potatoes & rode some with Mert. I went up too the church in P.M. too W.S.C.S. Mrs. K. was leader & Luella Y. served a nice lunch. Not many out. Cool nite.

Nice day. Washed kitchen curtains & some other things in A.M. Mon was at Arthur's in P.M. Lester & Isa came about 8:30. We sat around awhile & visited & then we all went down too the hall too the dance. Not many out but they had a good time. We stayed for lunch. Got home about 12.

Sat. Sept. 13
Nice day. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Came back by Dean's got there about 11 & the men helped Dean put the cattle across the road. Mon went too Arthur's haying in P.M. Lester, Isa & I went over too Lena's in P.M.

Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Lester & Isa went up too Lizzie's for dinner. In P.M. I went for a ride with them as did Lizzie. We went over too Joe Armstrongs for a little while & then on too Bluffton & back home by Dean's. We stopped there a minute. Lester's went over too Conrad Johnson's in eve & Mon & I went too Lodge. Not many out. Had a nice lunch.

Tues. Sept. 16
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & got cooler. Cloudy all P.M. & rather damp. I washed in A.M. Lester's went too Decorah early in A.M. & then back too Claudes for dinner & supper. Dean was here a minute in A.M. I went up too the church awhile in P.M. & worked getting ready for our dinner. Ironed some when I got home.

Wed. Sept. 17
Damp day but cool. Florence & Albert brought the turkey about 10:30. Isa & Lester went down too Dell's awhile in A.M. Washed my hair after dinner & Mon & Isa & I went down too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair. Had lots of fun with Rochelle. Had a good lunch. Lester went too Canton & around visiting. Isa & I went up too the church in eve & helped peel potatoes & fix celery for the dinner tomorrow. Lester went down town. Cool nite.

Thurs. Sept. 18
Quite a nice day some warmer. Mon was down at Arthur's in A.M. helping take care of pigs. Isa & Lester were at Claude's for dinner. I went up too the church about 2. We had our Annual Turkey Dinner. Started serving at 4:30 & didn't get down until after 10. Had a very large crowd. Around 700. Good dinner & plenty of it. Got home about 11:45. Isa & Lester were up there for dinner.

Nice day. Lester's got up about 4 & left for home. Mon took Olive & I up too the church about 8 & we cleaned up after the dinner & put things away. Got home about 10:30. Canned some tomatoes in P.M. Cool nite.

Our 42nd Wedding Anniversary. Nice day. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Didn't do much the rest of the day.

Sun. Sept. 21
Beautiful day. Ruth called about 8 & wanted us too go for a ride with them & Iona called a few minutes later wanting us too come there for dinner. We went with Arthur's too Strawberry Point & on too "Devil's Backbone Park". Sure a swell place & such a big Park. Had our picnic dinner. They took their little gas camp stove & we had steak. Then after dinner we drove around the Park out too the bathing beach & its sure nice there. Got home about 5 & went right down too Dean's too a "cook out" supper in the yard. Hamburgers, weiners, baked potatoes & carrots & then all the other things she had. Watched T.V. until about 10 & then had a lunch. Rochelle walks quite a little. Had a grand day & eve.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed most of the clothes. Made 5 pts. of pepper hash in P.M. Mon rode with Mert most of the day.

Tues. Sept. 23
Quite nice until late in P.M. it clouded up. Rained some in eve & then quite hard in the nite. About ¾ of an inch of rain fell. I finished the ironing in A.M. Canned some tomatoes in P.M. & prepared some vegetables for a relish. Mon rode with Mert quite a lot. We went down too Dean's about 5 for some butter. Had a letter from Isa.
Gas tank went dry tonite.

Nice day. Canned the relish in A.M. Did some baking in P.M. Mon rode with Mert some.

Thurs. Sept. 25
Nice day but cool. I worked at the P.O. today. Dorothy went too Rochester going thro' the Clinic about her hearing. She didn't get back today. The Rebekah's had a "Food Sale" at Sheley's store in P.M. & eve. I went down & worked in eve. Took in $23.95. Mon went down home after dinner & got the tractor & wagon & hauled a load of ashes down too the sink hole. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Cool nite.

Nice cool day again. I worked at the P.O. again. Mon helped Mert most of the day. We went down too the hall in eve. Bud & Opal Smith showed their pictures of Yosemite Park. Pretty good crowd out & the pictures were good. Cool nite.

40 degrees. Nice cool day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon rode with Mert some in P.M. I canned some tomatoes. Cool nite.

34º. Frost all over the creek bottom & the squash, pumpkin & cuke vines were blackened. I went too church in A.M.

Nice day but quite windy. I washed & ironed. Mon rode with Mert part of the day. It clouded up in eve & rained some. I went too Prosper in eve too the "Neighbors Club" bazaar & lunch with Dorothea. Quite a few there from B.O. They had a good crowd & nice things too sell & a good lunch. Got home about 11.

Tues. Sept. 30
Rather cloudy & damp part of the A.M. but cleared off in P.M. Quite windy & it got much cooler. We gathered in the pumpkins (30) & squash after dinner. I went up too the church about 2 & some of us made out our reports for the W.S.C.S. We went down too Dean's after supper & got 5 chickens too dress. Cool nite.

21º. Rochelle's first Birthday. Sure a frost this morning. Really cool early in A.M. but did warm up some during the day. Wind got around into the south. We went down too Dean's in P.M. too see Rochelle on her birthday. Iona pinned up my hair. Danny & Billy came after school & had Birthday cake & other lunch. We got home about 5. First game of the World Series this P.M. Milwaukee 4, Yanks 3. Albert Newhouse died tonite in the Decorah Hospital.

Quite a nice day but cool. Dean's bro't Rochelle up about 9:45 & left her while they went too Decorah. They got back as dinner was ready so they ate with us & then Iona helped with the dishes & Mon & Dean watched the ball game. They went home some after 1. Olive & I went too the Lutheran church too their Ladie's Aide. Elsie Rosendahl, Vivian Breitsprecher & Alice Kimber served lunch. Good crowd out & a good lunch. Milwaukee won the ball game 13 to 5. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Nice day. Canned some tomatoes in A.M. & cleaned floor. Worked at the P.O. in P.M. Dorothy went too Albert Newhouse's funeral at the Lutheran church in P.M. We came down too Dean's about 6. They left on their vacation up north about 7:30. Clyde's & Wallace's were here awhile before they went. They all went along together. Dean's with their car & Wallace's with their's. Rochelle was rather fussy in eve & not too good at nite. She had quite a cold in her head. Cool nite. Yanks 4 in the ball game & the Braves 0.

Nice day. Clarence & Millie came & got the children & took them too S.S. & church. They got back about 1. We went for a ride in P.M. over to Kendalville where they are putting a dam on the river. Stopped at Cold Water on our way home & went way up too the Spring. Beautiful trees now. Braves 3 Yanks 0.

Nice day although dark at times & a little cool. Mon went up town in A.M. He took Linda & Tommy too school but they walked home. He loaded up a load of wood late in P.M. too take up home. Iona called about 8 P.M.

Quite nice until about 3 P.M. the wind changed into the north & blew quite hard. Mon took the kiddies too school. We went up home a little while about 9:30. We watched the last game of the World Series. Yanks won the Series 6 to 3. Little son born too Marion & Glorianne this morning. Darrell Marc. Tommy went over too Arthur's too stay all nite. Anton McCabe was here in eve awhile.

Cool windy day but bright. Very windy. Mon took Linda too school & then went on too Decorah. He got home just before noon & went up town again in P.M.

30º this morn. Nice day. Warmed up quite a little. We went too Decorah in A.M. & then cleaned up the house in P.M. Linda washed my hair & Susie came over & pinned it up late in P.M. Mon went up too B.O. in P.M. Billie's Birthday.

Nice day. Mon took the children over too Ruth's about 10 & they went too S.S. with her. Mon went on up home & shaved & changed his clothes. We went too Arthur's for dinner for Bill's Birthday. Had a swell dinner. Mon & I went up home & I changed my clothes & packed my suit case & then Mon took me too Decorah & Bea Fritz & I took the 3:30 bus out of Decorah too Marshalltown. Got here about 8:30. Registered at the Tall Corn Hotel & also registered for the Rebekah Assembly. Went out too supper & then back too the Hotel & sat awhile & visited with Bertha Stimpson & others.

Dandy nice day. Waited around most of A.M. too give the secret work & then didn't so we went out & walked around town, had dinner & then back & gave the secret work. Sat around the lobby a while & then walked again. Went up too the Colessium. Bea took the Assembly Degree with 37 others & then we walked around some more. Had supper & then back too the Colessium too the seating of the Grand Officers. Didn't stay until it was all over. Came back too the room about 10.

Tues. Oct. 14
Dandy nice day. Very warm. First session of the Assembly today. No business just killing time. Shopped around a little after the session. The elevator was broken so we had too walk up stairs too our 6th floor room. Went back to the Colessium in eve too the Flag Ceremony & Decoration of Chivalry & Grand March. I went with Mr. & Mrs. Krause. Bea went with Edith Crabtree.

Wed. Oct. 15
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. Went too the regular session in A.M. & then it was the President's Luncheon. Went too the Memorial Service in P.M. & then walked around town till supper time. Back too the Colesium too the [Theta? Roe?] Initiation & then the Rebekah Initiation & Seating of the Grand Officers. Didn't get out of there until 12. Mina, Bea & I had a bottle of pop & then on too our room & bed. Saw Claude a minute. He is at the Grand Lodge.

Thurs. Oct. 16
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Got colder in the late P.M. & eve. Went too Assembly this A.M. They kept us until almost 1 then gave us our checks. I hurried too the bank & got mine cashed & then on too the Hotel & Bea was waiting for me too check out so I hurried & did that. We took a taxi too the bus depot & had our dinner. Left Marshalltown about 2. Got into Waterloo around 4 & had a wait there until almost 7. Bea called Flossie & she came down town about 5:30 & stayed with us until we left. Marion was driving the bus. We got into Decorah about 9:20. Mon was waiting for me. We took Bea home & then on home. Quite a day.

Nice day but cool. We went down too Arthur's after dinner & then on too Dean's. Iona was just fixing lunch when we got there. May & her baby were there. Linda & Tommy came soon. We came home about 5:15. Cool nite.

Quite a nice day but cooler & quite windy. Looked rainy at times. I went too church in A.M. We drove down too Harry Falck's in P.M. but no one was at home. They had a picnic dinner at the church this noon honoring our minister.

Howard Bradley bro't a nice Pontiac up in P.M. & he went on down too Dean's with it. He took our car & left that one for us too drive. It is sure a nice one. We went down too Arthur's a few minutes after Mon came home from Dean's. I gave my report from the Assembly at Lodge tonite.

Rather windy. Nice day although it did cloud up a few times & sprinkled a few times. We took the Pontiac back & got our car. Mon was at Dean's in P.M.

32º. Nice day but a little cool. Rather windy. Mon went down too Dean's early in A.M. but he came back about 9 with Rochelle. Dean's went too Decorah. Took Tommy too the dentist. They got back here about 11. I washed my hair & then went with Mon back too Dean's after dinner. Iona pinned up my hair. Mon & Dean hauled up wood getting it ready to saw. Had a lunch before we came home.

Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day but not much rain fell. Cool. Mon went down too Deans in P.M. but Dean wasn't at home so they couldn't work. No Lodge this eve. Shower for Mr. & Mrs. Vine (Vivian Lovstuen).

Not too bad a day & still cool. Mon was at Dean's all day. They finished hauling up wood & fixed the electric fence in another place so they got the cattle in a different pasture.

Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day. Rained quite hard in eve & rained most of the nite I guess. Mon rode with Mert some. He took me up too the church about 6. The M.Y.F. had a Father Son banquet & some of us ladies fixed & served the food. Served between 70 & 80. They had a good dinner. I helped clean up afterward & Howard & Fern bro't me home.

Beautiful Day. Mon was at Arthur's in A.M. They started picking corn there this morn. He went too Mabel in P.M. for a hair cut but couldn't get one so he got a hair cut at Ted's. I baked for our dinner & lunch tomorrow. I went too Lodge in eve. Not many out & we didn't have lunch. Visited awhile. I rode home with Walt's. Got a telephone call at 10:45 that some one had complained too the Co. Att. so we couldn't have our lunch in the lower hall.

Tues. Nov. 4
Nice day although it did cloud up in P.M. Quite warm. I went down town with Mon a little after 7 & took my food. Went over too Nellie's a minute. Came back home & cleaned up & went back too the hall a little after 8. We served our lunch & dinner in the upper hall. Had escalloped potatoes, meat loaf, baked beans, cabbage salad, pickles, doughnuts, pie, rolls or sandwiches & coffee. Served quite a few dinners & lunch in A.M. & P.M. also supper for some. Joe & Iona bro't me home about 7:45. Took in $44.55. Linda & Rochelle were up in the hall a few minutes. I sat up until after 10 & watched T.V. Election returns. Mon got home about 2.

Sprinkled some early in A.M. & then cleared up later & was quite a nice bright day. Wind blew terribly hard & got cooler. Didn't get up too early. Mon took me down too Dean's after dinner. I went up too Mays in P.M. with Iona. Pearl went too. May had a "Stanley Party". Quite a few out. Had a good time & a good lunch. Got back too Dean's about 4:30. Mon & Dean's came from Arthur's with the picker. We got home about 5:30. Cool nite.

Cool in A.M. but did warm up some during the day. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Dean's all day picking corn. He went too Decorah in eve with Ronald & Mert. They went too see "The Harlem Globe Trotters" at Luther Gym. Cold nite.

Quite earlier in the day but clouded up in P.M. & the wind came up. Blew hard in eve & rained some. Mon was at Dean's picking corn. Linda came home with him. He took her, Olive & I over too Howard R's in eve. Iona, Joe & Florence & Albert were there & we women tied the [fringe?] in the W.S.C.S. rugs. Got most of this done. Had a nice lunch.

Sprinkled off & on all day. Mon & Linda went too Dean's about 8. Mon came home about 10 & we went too Decorah. He went down too Dean's too help with the corn in P.M. but it got too raining so they quit about 2:30. Arthur's bro't the boys up here in eve & left them while they went too Decorah to the Director Teacher banquet. They got back here about 10. Had a letter from Isa.

Had a swell dinner. We went about 5 & got back at 7:30. Iona asked me too go too Locust with her to their Mother-Daughter banquet but I couldn't go. Cool nite. They finished picking corn at Dean's tonite.

I went too Decorah about 5:30 with Joe & Iona, Fern & Nellie went too. The Rebekah's down there had a supper for their 25 year members (& over) & all the rest of us at 7. Had a swell supper. They had a "Mock Wedding" after supper which was very funny. Then Lodge. I gave my report from the Assembly & heard some of them say the "Unwritten Work". Played Bingo awhile & then home. Got home about 11. Cool nite. Had a letter from Isa.

Not too nice a day & not too bad. Not cold. I washed in A.M. Had trouble with the last clothes [out?]. Got them mixed up in the wringer & burned out the machine motor & put out most of the power in the house. Mon & Floyd B. fixed up the electricity. Dean's brot Rochelle up about 9:30 & left her with us & they went too La Crosse with Wallace's. Had a good time with her. They got back about 5:30. Mon has quite a cold. Warmer tonite.

Dark, dreary, damp day but still not too chilly. Didn't do much. Went down too Dean's about 4 after butter. Mon is about the same.

Thurs. Dec. 4
Quite a nice bright day, but quite windy. Mon & Mert took the motor off the washing machine right after dinner. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran church in P.M. too their L.A.S. They had a Christmas program & such a good lunch. Pearl R. Maude J. & Lila E. were hostesses. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Ruth was here for a while in eve.

5º. Bright day but windy again. Got much cooler in eve. Mon rode some with Mert.

Sat. Dec. 6
Zero. Cold, windy day but the sun shone some. Didn't warm up much during the day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Got a goose for dinner tomorrow. Mon got a motor for my washing machine.

Sun. Dec. 7
5º. Snowed off & on during the day. Not too much snow fell. Didn't go too church. Arthur's & Mrs. K. & Dean's were here for dinner. Ruth & Linda went too Decorah in P.M. Ruth had too practice for the Messiah. Snowed about an inch in the nite.

5 below. Nice bright day but didn't warm up too much. Only about 10 above. Didn't do much. Mon put the motor in my machine today. Had a letter from Isa. Cold nite. Got an invitation too Norris Erickson's wedding at Toledo Ohio Dec. 27.

Tues. Dec. 9
20 below. Bright day but it didn't warm up much. Mon rode with Mert part of the day. Cold nite.

Wed. Dec. 10
20º below. Nice bright day & it warmed up too 10 above. Mon rode with Mert most of the day. I went too W.S.C.S. at the church in P.M. We had a program & our Christmas party & lunch. Had a few visitors. I got a pretty towel from Grace P. Had a nice lunch. Dean's bro't the meat just before I got home. Mon went down too the hall in eve too a "school meeting". Reorganization meeting. Cold nite.

Thurs. Dec. 11
Zero. Nice day. Warmed up some. I washed in A.M. Tried out lard in P.M. Got 7 qts. Mon rode with Mert some. They took the car down too the garage & tuned it up. Hadn't been able too start it all week. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Cold nite.

Fri. Dec. 12
20º below. Not too bad a day but still not too bright. I ironed in A.M. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit. He took one up too the church in P.M. Anita, Florence, Albert & I packed old clothes that had been brought in too send away. Had 2 big boxes & one smaller one. We went down too Arthur's in eve too celebrate Danny's Birthday early. Dean's were there too. The kiddies had lots of fun. We saw pictures Arthur's had taken when they were out west & some they had taken when we were on picnics this summer. Had a nice lunch. Cold nite.

Sat. Dec. 13
15º below. Quite a nice day. Warmed up some. We went too Decorah in P.M. Large crowd in town. Cold nite again.

5º below. Cold, windy day. Snow blew off & on all day. I went too church in A.M. Cold nite.

Mon. Dec. 15
5º below. Quite a nice bright day. Warmed up during the day. Dean was here for dinner. He was having his car fixed at the garage. We went too Lodge in eve. Had our Christmas & Birthday Party after Lodge. There were 19 there. Had a swell picnic lunch. Got home about 12. Warmer tonite.

Tues. Dec. 16
10º above. Rather a dark day. Sun shone some. Got colder in P.M. & then in eve it got much warmer & the water ran off the roof. Got colder again in the nite. Mon took me down too Dean's in P.M. & Iona gave me a permanent. Debra was there when we got there. Wallace & May came soon after. They had dinner at Dean's & then went home. Mon came after me about 5.

Wed. Dec. 17
Zero. Quite a nice day. Warmed up some. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. & went too Decorah with him in P.M. I washed & ironed. Had a letter from Isa.

Thurs. Dec. 18
10 above. Quite a nice day but it did cloud up some in P.M. Mon went too Mabel in A.M. with Mert. M. took his car over there & left it too be fixed. I went too Club in P.M. with Marilyn at Muriel T's. Had our Christmas Party. I got a jar of Avon Cream Sachet from Florence. Most of the members were out & Muriel served such a good lunch.

Fri. Dec. 19
20 above. Quite a nice day. We went down too the home school for a picnic dinner. The children had a program & gift exchange after dinner. Sure had a swell dinner.

Sat. Dec. 20
Not too bad a day. Some warmer. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon rode with Mert in P.M.

Sun. Dec. 21
Rather a dark day, not too cold. I went too church in A.M. We were alone all day. Made some candy in P.M.

Quite a nice day. Thawed quite a little. I washed & ironed & made some cookies. Maude Ward passed away at a Rest Home in Decorah this P.M.

Tues. Dec. 23
Rather a dark day. Warm in A.M. but cooler later in P.M. Mon went down home early in A.M. & hauled up a load of wood with the tractor. Dean was here for dinner. I went up too the church in eve too the Christmas program. They had a very good program. Arthur's bro't me home.

Very nice day. Did odd jobs. Mon rode with Mert some. I went up too see Mrs. Teiskotter awhile in P.M. Mert was here awhile in P.M. Maude Ward was buried this P.M. at B.O.

Thurs. Dec. 25
Nice day. We went too Arthur's for dinner. Dean's were there too. Iona & I took dessert. Had such a good dinner. The kiddies played outside awhile after dinner & then they came in & had a short program. Linda played a solo on the violin, then Danny, Billy on the piano & then Linda & Danny on their violins & Ruth on the piano. They did good. Then we had our gifts. I got 2 nice big holders with magnets in them from Dean. We got so many pretty cards too.

Fri. Dec. 26
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Didn't do much. Mon rode with Mert quite a bit. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran church in eve too their Christmas program. It was very good.

Sat. Dec. 27
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon took me down too Dean's in P.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. Mon, Dean & Tommy went too B.O. & Mabel. Norris Erickson & Linda Jane Drake were married this P.M. at Toledo Ohio. We were invited but didn't go.

Sun. Dec. 28
Not too bad a day. I went too church in A.M. Cooler today.

Mon. Dec. 29
Not too nice early in A.M. (cooler) but cleared off later & was quite nice. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & then in P.M. Mert couldn't go part of the time & Mon & Melvin Olson delivered fuel. I went up too the church in P.M. with Ruth. Phyllis W. Anita, Marilyn, Elsie were there too & we made fancy sandwiches for tomorrow night.

Tues. Dec. 30
7º above. Quite a nice day. Warmed up into the 20's. I washed & ironed. Florence was here awhile about noon. Anita came up after me about 7 & we went up too the church. Henry came later. We had a reception for Norris & his wife. About 100 there. We served fancy sandwiches, cookies & coffee & Albert's donated ice cream. Had lots of food. Got home about 11.

Wed. Dec. 31
Rather a dark day. Chilly early in A.M. but it did warm up during the day. Started too snow about 2 & snowed the rest of the P.M. but not too much snow fell. We went down too Dean's about 2 for some butter. Didn't stay long. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. Had a letter from Isa.
