Sun. Jan. 1
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & got some colder. Snowed some in eve. I went too church in A.M. Arthur's & Dean's were here for dinner & watched T.V. in P.M. till about 4.

Not too bad a day. Not cold. Rather dark at times. Got some colder in eve. I went down too the hall in P.M. & helped Mon clean up the hall. We went too Lodge in eve. We had Installation. 16 came up from Decorah. Alma Ellingson was the D.D.P. Had a nice lunch afterward.

Tues. Jan. 3
Dandy nice day, but cool. I washed & ironed. Cold nite. Mon rode with Mert some today.

Wed. Jan. 4
8º below. Dandy nice day. Cool. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. Ida H. & Olive were here in A.M. Dean was here a minute in P.M. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. Jan. 5
Dandy nice day. Much warmer. Mon rode with Mert quite a little. He went too Lodge in eve & I went up to the church to a board meeting. Wind came up in the nite & it got colder. Dean sold some hogs in P.M. & was here awhile.

Fri. Jan. 6
10º above. Quite a nice day, but not too warm. Didn't do too much.

Sat. Jan. 7
Quite a nice day. Not too warm. We went too Decorah in A.M.

Sun. Jan. 8
Not too bad a day. Sun shone some & was cloudy part of the time. Went too church in A.M. We went down too Mert Rosendahl's in eve & wrote out invitations to a dance for next Fri. nite. Got home about 12:45. Had a nice time & lunch.

Mon. Jan. 9
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Dorothy Emmons was here awhile in P.M.

Tues. Jan. 10
Quite a nice day. Cleaned up floors. We went down too Dean's a little while in P.M. Tommy came home with us. Dean took a load of hogs too Mabel & Tommy went home with him. They butchered a hog & beef down there today. Mon went up too Walt Barth's & helped unload a piano in P.M.

Wed. Jan. 11
Snowed some in A.M. but not much. Cleared off in P.M. & was quite nice. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. & got the meat. He took it too Decorah in P.M. to the locker. The W.S.C.S. met here in P.M. 16 ladies here. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. Jan. 12
Quite a nice day. Warmer. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & got some eggs. I.O.O.F. had Installation in eve. Some men came up from Decorah & did the work. Wilma, Iona, Ida H., Olive & I took lunch & went & got their supper. Had a good lunch.

Fri. Jan. 13
Quite a nice day. Thawed some. Dean sold hogs in A.M. & he & Tommy stopped here awhile on their way back from Mabel. I went down too the hall in P.M. & helped Mon get the hall ready for the dance. Had the dance in eve. Bert Yates played. Big crowd. A lot of strangers. Had a good time. Mert R's. & us served lunch. Mert & Mon were also on the dance comm.

Sat. Jan. 14
Rather a dark day & cooler. We went down too the hall right after breakfast & washed dishes & cleaned up. Went down too Dean's a little while afterward. Didn't go too Decorah today.

Sun. Jan. 15
Snowed almost all day. Not hard but quite a little snow fell. Not cold at all until late in P.M. the wind got into the north & it blew quite hard for a while & got much colder. Drifted some. I went too church in A.M. & then we went too Dean's for dinner. Arthur's were there too. Had a good dinner & a good lunch before we came home.

Rather a dark day. Not too cold. Didn't do much. Went too Lodge in eve. Not too many out. Mon, Olive & Joe served lunch. Had a good lunch.

Tues. Jan. 17
Everything covered with frost. Snowed lightly off & on all day. Not very cold. Dean sold hogs again today & was here a little while in P.M.

Wed. Jan. 18
Snowed all day. Not too cold. Didn't do much. Quite a lot of snow fell. Ruth came up & got me for choir practice in eve. Aunt Alice is at Florence's sick so Florence couldn't come. Snowed all nite I guess.

Thurs. Jan. 19
Snowed most of the day but not so hard. Not too cold. Dean & Tommy were here awhile in A.M. early. Dean's brot Linda & Tommy up & left them all nite. They went too a card party at Wallace's. Linda & Danny & all the children from their school from their grade on up went too Decorah & took exams today. Mon went too Lodge. Got colder in the nite. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. Jan. 20
10º below. Nice bright day but cold. Dean came up & got the kiddies about 8:30. I washed & ironed. Aunt Alice is quite bad. Cold nite.

Sat. Jan. 21
40º below on north side 30º below on south. Nice bright day but cold. Very still. Arthur's bro't the boys up about 9:30 & left them & they went too Decorah. We had just had dinner when they came for the boys so they ate here. We went to Decorah about 2. Were not down there long. Plenty cold down there. Cold nite.

Sun. Jan. 22
31º below north & 22º below south. Cold day but nice & bright. I went too church in A.M. We went down too Albert's in P.M. Aunt Alice is very bad. Didn't go & see her. Rev. Huffman was there when we got there & Mary Willson & daughter came after while. Aunt Alice passed away about 8:30. Cold nite.

Mon. Jan. 23
10º below south 20º below north. Cold bright day. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Mon took the Income Tax papers too Miller & he also got a hair cut. Cold down town. Florence was here a minute in eve.

Tues. Jan. 24
Mon's Birthday. Not such a cold day. Warmed up quite a little. Dorothea came up after dinner & pinned up my hair. We also planned a lunch for tomorrow. Dean's came up after school awhile. Mon went down town & played cards in eve.

Wed. Jan. 25
Quite a nice day. Not so cold. We went too Aunt Alice's funeral in P.M. Arnold's came & had most of the service. Adrian, Harlan, Marilyn & Ruth sang so nicely. Church was full. Not too many of the relatives there. We rode to the cemetery with Flossie & Nancy. Had a lunch at the church afterward. Arthur's came up in eve & Ruth & I went too choir practice. The men watched T.V.

Not too bad a day but rather dark & dreary. Didn't do much. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Jan. 27
Not too bad a day but dark. We went down too Arthur's early in A.M. Mon helped Arthur sort hogs too sell & Ruth & I practiced some. Got home about 12. Dean's came a little after & left Tommy here while they went to a Sale at Stanley's old place. They came after him a little after 3. Dance at the hall tonite but we didn't go. Wind started too blow quite hard in eve & then it rained.

Sat. Jan. 28
Dark day again. Everything covered with ice this morning. Pavement & side of the road terribly slippery. Warmed up some in A.M. so the maintainers got the ice off the paving but it was slippery elsewhere. Got colder at nite. Mert Rosendahl was here for dinner.

Sun. Jan. 29
Quite a nice bright day, but cool. Went too church in A.M. Albert & Florence came up for dinner. Cold nite.

Mon. Jan. 30
Very cold day. Deans came up & got us about 8:30 & we went too Decorah. The Insurance Co. of the people from Minnesota who hit our car a year ago last Oct. (when the folks were coming home from taking me to Waterloo) had sued our Ins Co so Mon, Dean & Iona had too go down & I went along. Met with our lawyer & talked for a while & then the 2 lawyers got together & settled the case out of court. We were all glad. Had dinner down town. Cold nite.

Tues. Jan. 31
Nice bright day but cold. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Dean & Tommy were here awhile in P.M. Alyce Wicks is through as post mistress today & Dorothy Emmons took over. Cold nite.

Wed. Feb. 1
Snowed off & on during the day. Sometimes quite hard. Arthur's came up in eve. Ruth went too choir practice early & I went later with Florence. Albert stayed here with the folks. Wallace Headington died this A.M.

Thurs. Feb. 2
Not too bad a day, but everything covered with snow. Quite drifts in some places. Mon went too Lodge in eve. I washed & ironed.

Fri. Feb. 3
Quite a nice day but cold. Dean's were here a few minutes at noon. They were on their way too Decorah. We went down there later in P.M. & got our smoked meat which they had bro't up from Decorah. Wallace Headington was buried this P.M. Bill Fritz & Mr. Fry were here in P.M. selling hog & cow balancer. Mon bought some. Cold nite.

Nice day but cold. Mon went down too Dean's for awhile in A.M. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Cold nite.

Rather foggy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Thawed quite a little. I washed & ironed. I went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch after Lodge. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Feb. 7
Foggy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Thawed quite a lot. I went down too Arthur's about 1 with Florence & Albert. We girls practiced for Sun. Went over too Margaret Wards about 3 to a Stanley Party. Quite a few out & we had a nice lunch. I rode home from there with Dorothea R. Deans & Arthur's came up in eve & surprised us. They bro't sandwiches & birthday cake for my birthday. Danny, Billy & Linda put on a little program. Linda had gone home with Danny & Billy from school & taken her first violin lesson from Ruth. Got a nice slip from Dean's & a covered pie pan from Arthur's. Watched T.V. of course. They went home about 10:30. Got quite a few cards & also a pretty handky from Josephine.

Wed. Feb. 8
My 64th Birthday. Very nice day. Mon went too Mabel in A.M. & had a couple of teeth pulled. I went too W.S.C.S. at Inez's in P.M. Quite a few out. Inez had a pretty birthday cake for me & she gave me a beautiful handkerchief. All the ladies signed their names to a birthday card for me too. Went too choir practice in eve with Florence. Albert stayed with Henry.

Nice day. I went too Locust in P.M. with Dean's too Aide. Ida Halse was one of the hostesses & she had invited me. Quite a crowd out. A Mrs. Astrey missionary from Africa, was there with films & other things from Africa. She gave a good talk. Had a very nice lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Nice day. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. We went to the dance at the hall in eve. Quite a large crowd out. Bert Yates played.

Sat. Feb. 11
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M.

Sun. Feb. 12
Cloudy day. I went too church in A.M. We had a special program at church. The young people & the choir had the morning service. It was good. Negro songs & reading. Quite a crowd out. Had a farewell dinner after church for Fish Ward's. Quite a few there & such a good picnic dinner. Arthur's bro't me home about 2.

Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a lot. I washed in A.M. Went too Margaret Ward's in P.M. too our W.S.C.S. study class. Not many out. Had a nice lunch. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. Got much colder at nite.

Tues. Feb. 14
Nice bright day but cold. Rather windy. I ironed in A.M. Olive & I went up too the Lutheran church in P.M. too their Aide. Marie Jaarstad, Lila Erickson, Maude J. & Lillian S. entertained. Had a very nice lunch. Dean's were here a few minutes in eve. Claude's got T.V. today.

Wed. Feb. 15
Quite a nice day. Dorothea came up early in A.M. & gave me a Prom permanent. She came back about 4:30 & combed it out. Arthur's came up in eve & Ruth & I went too choir practice & the rest watched T.V. We went over too Opal & Bud Smith's after practice for cake & coffee.

Thurs. Feb. 16
Rather a dark day. Not too cold. Mon took me up too the church about 10. We had our oyster dinner & I helped cook them. Not as large a crowd out as usual. Had a good dinner. The gas oven blew up as Elsie was lighting it & she got burned some but not too badly. Had us all scared though. Didn't do any damage too anything else. Mon went too Lodge in eve. A little skiff of snow in eve. Not much. Had a letter from Isa & a pretty handkerchief.

Fri. Feb. 17
Nice bright day but cool. I went too Decorah with Paul & Miriam. We stopped on our way down & saw Elsie. She isn't in much pain & not much blisters on her arms. It was World Day of Prayer & we went too the Methodist church. Other churches took part in the service. Just ladies. Had coffee & cookies afterward.

Sat. Feb. 18
10º below. Quite a nice day. Its warmed up some. We went too Decorah in P.M. for a little while. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up & left them over night. They went too a card party. Some ladies from Caledonia had a sale at the hall this P.M. & eve. They had different ladies & children's articles & some kitchen utensils. Don't think they sold much. Fred Sholey passed away at the Iowa City hospital tonite.

Sun. Feb. 19
Snowed off & on all day, but not hard. Sun shone some too. Not very cold. Mon took the kiddies home about 9:30. I went too church. Arthur's brought the boys up & left them all nite. They went to a party at Fish Ward's.

Rather dark most of the day. Not too cold. Went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch. Mon took the boys home about 8:15.
Gas tank went dry this morning.

Tues. Feb. 21
10º below. Nice day but cool. Did warm up some during the day. I washed in A.M. Went too Florence's in P.M. with Miriam too Bible Study. 10 out. Had a nice lunch. T.V. quit about 5:45 & I called Ernie. He came up after supper & fixed it. Tube gone.

Wed. Feb. 22
10º below. Quite a nice day, but cool. We went too Decorah in A.M. Henry got a hair cut & a new top coat. $24.50. I ironed after we got home. Lester & Isa came late in P.M. Went too choir practice in eve. Isa went along. Danny came up here & stayed while his mother was at practice.

Thurs. Feb. 23
Quite a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Rained in eve & froze so it was plenty slippery. Lester's went too Decorah in A.M. I went too Club at Marilyn's in P.M. with Florence. Not too many out. Had a nice lunch. Isa went over too Olive's. We were all there for supper. Had a good supper. Mon & Claude went too Lodge. It was raining when Isa & I came home. Had quite an electrical storm.

Fri. Feb. 24
Ice over everything this morning. Very slippery. Warmed up in A.M. & the ice melted off things so by P.M. it was much better. Isa was sick & didn't get up until about 1 & then Lester took her too Decorah to the Dr. He said she had an infection & must keep quiet. We went too Fred Scholey's funeral at the M.E. church in P.M. His son in law Chas. [Jupin?] preached the funeral sermon, Ruth, Marilyn, Adrian & Harlan sang. Mon was one of the pall bearers. I went up to the church in eve with Arthur's. Frank Miller showed the pictures he took when he went on a round the world trip last year. They were very interesting & there were quite a crowd out. We had a lunch in the basement afterward. Albert's bro't me home. Regular blizzard then. Dance at the hall tonight.

10º below. Quite a nice day but cold all day. Lester's went home this morning. Isa felt some better. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Cold down there.

Nice bright day. Warmer. Thawed some. I went too church in A.M. Dean's were up for dinner.

Mon. Feb. 27
10º below. Linda's 9th Birthday. Nice day but cool. I washed in A.M. Went too Inez W's. in P.M. to a surprise birthday party for Gloria. Quite a few there & she got such nice gifts. Had a good lunch.

Tues. Feb. 28
Nice day but cool. I ironed in A.M. Went too Miriam's in P.M. to Bible Study. 11 there. Had a nice lunch. Had a card from Isa. She doesn't feel much better.

Wed. Feb. 29
Dandy nice day. Quite warm & it thawed a lot. Billy's teacher called about 1 & wanted us too come & get him. Arthur's were gone so she couldn't call them. He had got caught & mussed his pants. Some brought him up here & I cleaned him up & he stayed here then till Ruth came & got him when she got Danny from school. They had been too Decorah. Went too choir practice in eve at the Lutheran church as we are too sing there Sun. nite. Mon rode with Mert in P.M. Dorothea was here awhile in eve.

Dandy nice day again. Thawed quite a lot again today. Mon rode some with Mert. Lizzie was here awhile in P.M. We went too the hall about 7:30. After Lodge we had an oyster supper. Quite a few out.

Fri. Mar. 2
Dandy nice day again. A lot of our snow is gone from the yard. Dorothea came up early in A.M. & put up my hair. Mon rode quite a bit of the day with Mert.

Sat. Mar. 3
Quite a nice day but much colder although it did thaw some. We went too Decorah in A.M. Went down too Dean's just after dinner for some eggs. Stopped at Arthur's awhile on our way home. Arthur's brot the boys up & left them all nite. They went too Canton to a "Shower" on Mr. & Mrs. Elroy Nash.

Sun. Mar. 4
Rather a dark stormy looking day. Not too cold though. Went too church in A.M. We went down too Dean's for dinner. Arthur's were there too. Had a good dinner & a good lunch before we came home. The Methodist choir went too the Lutheran Church in eve & put on "Gods Trombones". Quite a large crowd out. The minister had a recording machine so he recorded our songs & then played them back to us. Sounded good. Had a nice lunch afterward.

Mon. Mar. 5
Dandy nice day. Quite warm, up to 50. Thawed a lot. The creek was out of its banks. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Dean's a while in P.M. cutting some trees down. I went too Lodge in eve. Ruth Holt & Bea Fritz were up visiting Lodge. We initiated Elsie Rosendahl into our Lodge. Not many out. Had a lunch afterward. Mon came down too come home with me & then we & Olive rode home with Walt & Wilma. Johnnie Johnson passed away quite suddenly about 10 P.M.

Tues. Mar. 6
Rather a dark dreary day. Not too cold. Started too rain about 3 P.M. & kept it up. Not hard but just rain. Turned too snow in the eve. Got colder in the night & the wind came up. Blowed snow into drifts. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. cutting wood. I went too Bible Study at Violet's in P.M. with Miriam. Just Florence & Muriel there besides us. Had a nice lunch.

Wed. Mar. 7
Blizzardy day & colder. Snow piled up worse than it has been all winter. That is in places. In places just a light covering of snow. Olive & I went up to the Lutheran church to a ham dinner. Quite a good sized crowd out in spite of the weather & a very good dinner. Arthur's came up in eve & he & the boys stayed here while Ruth & I went too choir practice. Cold nite.

Thurs. Mar. 8
About zero this morn. Warmed up during the day but the wind was chilly too. Didn't do too much. I went down too Dorothea R's in eve. Olive & Nellie N. were there too & we kind of planned things for our Rebekah Convention in June. Dorothea had such a nice lunch. Mon didn't go too Lodge. It snowed about 3 inches in the nite.

Fri. Mar. 9
Quite a nice day. Warmed up & thawed a lot. Went too Johnnie Johnson's funeral in P.M. at the Lutheran church. Very large crowd out. Dance tonight but we didn't go.

Sat. Mar. 10
Cloudy in A.M. Wind blew quite hard. Began too get rather blustery about noon & then about 4 it started too snow & the snow blew & it sure was a terrible night. Bad blizzard. We went too Decorah a little while in P.M. Got colder at night too.

Sun. Mar. 11
Nice bright day but cool. Big snow drifts around here & the side roads drifted full. I didn't go too church. Guess they didn't have any. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up & left them all nite. They went to a card party. The snow plows were out all day & nite opening roads.

Mon. Mar. 12
10º below this morn. Nice day. Cool. Dean came up after the kiddies about 10. Didn't do much.

Tues. Mar. 13
Nice day. I washed in A.M. Had too hang the clothes up stairs as the back yard is drifted so I couldn't get too the lines. Went to Bible Study at Elsie's in P.M. with Miriam. Only 7 there. The last lesson. It has been a very interesting study. Had some good cookies & coffee. Melson Sheley passed away suddenly early this morning. I went down too Alyse's just after supper too see Iva. She is staying there tonight.

Wed. Mar. 14
Nice day. Some warmer. We went down too Dean's early in A.M. after eggs. Lots of snow down that way in places. Ironed when I got home. Went too W.S.C.S. at Hilda's in P.M. Quite a few out. Had a nice lunch. Went too choir practice in eve with Florence. Albert stayed here. Dorothea was here awhile after supper. Cold nite.

12º below. Nice day. Warmed up some. Dorothea came up about 10:30 & put up my hair. Mon went too Lodge in eve. I went too Cresco too Lodge with Dorothea, Gladys, Nellie N. & Audry. Nassana bro't the Traveling Emblem up there. Very nice work. Had a good program after Lodge & a very nice lunch. Got home about 11:30. Cold nite.

Fri. Mar. 16
Quite a nice day. Warmed up quite a little & thawed. Mon went too Decorah early in A.M. & got a hair cut. He took me up too Iva's about 10:30 with some food. We went too Melson's funeral in P.M. Rode up with Claude's. Mon was a pall bearer. Ruth, Harlan, Marilyn & Adrian sang. Very good. I went over too Iva's as soon as the service was over & helped get lunch. Quite a few there for lunch. I got home about 5.

Sat. Mar. 17
Rather a cloudy day. Not too cold. We went too Decorah a little while just after dinner. Large crowd in town. Had a letter from Isa.

Sun. Mar. 18
Snowed hard for awhile in A.M. Sun shone part of the time after it quit snowing, so the snow all melted off then. Went too church in A.M.

Nice day. Thawed quite a little. Mon doesn't feel too good. He had a cold. I washed windows & did other cleaning jobs. I went too Lodge in eve. Not too many out. Had a nice lunch. We practiced some after Lodge. I rode home with Walt & Wilma.

Tues. Mar. 20
Dandy nice day. Quite warm still a chilly wind. Thawed quite a lot. Mon doesn't feel much better. I washed windows etc. Went too choir practice in eve.

Wed. Mar. 21
Snowed almost all the A.M. Very damp heavy snow. Quite warm. Quite a few inches of snow fell. Quit snowing in P.M. & cleared off in eve & was very nice. I went too Miriam's in P.M. with Albert & Florence. Inez, Elsie & Muriel were along too. We tore carpet rags. Miriam served such a good lunch after we were through.

Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. I washed & ironed. Clothes dried so nice. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Rather a dark, damp, chilly day although it did thaw some. Snowed a little in A.M. Cleared off in eve & was a cool nite. Didn't do much.

Zero this morn. Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah for a while in A.M. Washed my hair after dinner & then we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. Thawed quite a lot today. Jerry Darling (Jimmie's boy) died unexpectedly early this morning.

Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Did a little of everything & not much of anything. Jerry Darlings funeral was at the Lutheran church this P.M. with burial at Bluffton. Didn't go.

Tues. Mar. 27
Horrible day. Not too cold. Rained & then froze on everything. Wind blew quite hard. Limbs broken, telephone lines full of ice & broken. Quite a mess.

Wed. Mar. 28
Not very nice day but not as bad as yesterday. Quite blizzardy at times. Especially late in P.M. & eve. Did odd jobs. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. Mar. 29
Not very nice day. Blizzardy off & on all day. Got up early & did baking for Club. Ruth came up & helped awhile in P.M. 17 here besides myself. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. He went too Lodge in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. Mar. 30
Arthur's Birthday. Not too nice in A.M. but did get better in P.M. Sun shone part of the time then. Not too cold a day but cool nite. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M.

Sat. Mar. 31
Leonard's Birthday. Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Washed my hair in P.M. & went down too Dean's. Iona pinned it up.

Quite a nice day. Not cold. Sun shone part of the day. Had quite an electrical storm in eve, but it didn't rain much. Went too church in A.M. Arthur's, Dean's, Claude's & Leonard & Marion's were here for dinner. Had a picnic dinner & a good one. Had a lot of fun with Janet. She sure is a cute baby. Linda, Danny & Tommy played outside most of P.M. The creek was up pretty high in P.M. Dinner honoring Arthur, Leonard & Tommy's Birthdays.
Noreen & Velda Ward, Kathleen Kimber & 3 Snell boys were confirmed at church today.
$1.25 Big crowd at church.

Mon. Apr. 2
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon rode with Mert some. A tube went in the T.V. & Ernie came up just after supper & put in a new one. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch. Practiced some after lunch. Creek up quite a bit today.

Tues. Apr. 3
Nice part of the day & not so nice for a while in A.M. Wind blew hard most of the day. Bad storms & tornados in the southern part of Iowa, Wisconsin & Michigan. Quite a few killed & much loss of property. I washed & ironed. Wind got around into the north late in P.M. & it got much colder. Rained some in A.M. & again in eve. Alvin Darling & La Vonne McCauley were married this A.M. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. cutting wood.

Tommy's 4th Birthday. Nice day but cooler & windy. Dried up a lot. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. cutting wood. We went down too Dean's in P.M. Arthur's came with the kiddies from school & we had a nice lunch.

Thurs. Apr. 5
Not too bad a day & not too nice. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & again awhile in P.M. He went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Apr. 6
Quite a nice day. Warmer in A.M. but got much colder late in P.M. Started too snow & rain some late in P.M. & eve. Quite windy. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon went too Dr. Wright & had an examination. He got a very good report from the Dr. I got my hair cut. Dean & Tommy were here a few minutes just after dinner. Mon went down too Dean's & worked until it rained. We went too Decorah too Lodge in eve. Olive, Audrey, & Fern went with us. Our Lodge took the Traveling Emblem too Decorah. 9 others besides us went. We had a nice time & a good lunch. We got home about 12.

Regular blizzard most of A.M. Cloudy in P.M. Cold & windy. I went too Decorah about 8:45 with Albert & Florence. Our W.S.C.S. had a food sale at the Montgomery store. Had a pretty good sale. Took in between 50 & 55 dollars.

Beautiful day. Warmer. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Dean's & Arthur's in A.M. helping dehorn calves. I raked some in A.M. & then Mon helped most of the P.M. so we got a good lot done.

Nice day but quite windy. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & again some in P.M. I went up too the church in eve to a Pastoral Comm. meeting.

Nice day. Rather warm. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & again in P.M. I went too W.S.C.S. at Charlene's in P.M. with Muriel. I was leader at the meeting. Not too many out. Had a nice lunch. Went too choir practice in eve. I raked yard in A.M.

Nice day. Chilly wind. We went down too Dean's a while in A.M. & then we went too Decorah in P.M. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Quite a nice day. Windy. We worked at the yard in A.M. We went down too Dean's in P.M. Iona gave me a permanent. Mon plowed part of the time while we were there. Had a letter from Isa. Alvin Darlings started living in Aunt Alice's house today.

Quite a nice day but cool. Mon went too Dean's early in A.M. & helped ring hogs & then he plowed until noon. Dean's went too Decorah. Ruth bro't the boys up about 9 & left the boys here while she went too Decorah.

Quite a nice day. Got rather windy in P.M. I left home about 8:30 went with Florence too Sumner too the North Iowa Conference of the W.S.C.S. Elsie & Muriel went too. Over 300 there. Had a nice meeting. Had dinner given at the Legion Hall. The meeting was over about 3:30. We got home about 6. Mon was at Dean's awhile this P.M.

Quite a nice day but cool & windy. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon got a hair cut. I went over too Olive's awhile late in P.M. Marvin, Ginny & the kiddies came about 5 while I was there. Mrs. Krumm flew back from Florida today. Arthur's met her at Rochester tonite.

Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up just as I got home from church & then they went too Decorah too help Lelia & Stanley move but they got back just as we were going too eat. Stanley's were even home. We went over too Claude's a little while in P.M. too see the folk's. Marion's were there too.

Nice day. Warmed up some. I washed & ironed. Went up too Lizzie's & Tieskotters in P.M. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. & then went down too Arthur's in P.M. & helped him shell corn.

Sprinkled some in A.M. Dark all day. Mon went too Arthur's awhile in A.M. We went down too Dean's in P.M. Iona pinned up my hair. Mon & Tommy set some gopher traps. We stopped at Arthur's awhile. Linda was there practicing her violin & we took her home. Marvin, Ginny & the kiddies came over & spent the eve.

Quite a nice day. Got quite windy in P.M. Mon was at Dean's hauling manure. I went too Club at Lillian's in P.M. Good crowd out & a good lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve, but not enough out too have Lodge. Quite a storm in the nite. Severe electricity. Knocked out our telephone. Rained over an inch. Aunt Mary Porter died about 9 A.M. The electricity spoiled the small radio & the tenna rotor on the T.V.

Dark damp day. Rather cool. Mon was at Dean's all day hauling manure. Christy Foss was here a couple of times. The electricity burned out our telephone & he couldn't fix it, so we have no phone. Had a letter from Isa.

Sat. Apr. 28
Rather a dark, dreary day. Sprinkled off & on all day. I went too Aunt Mary's funeral at our church at 1:30 P.M. Very large crowd out & such beautiful flowers. Ruth, Marilyn, Adrain & Harlan sang. We went too Decorah after the funeral. Rained hard in the nite & then turned too snow.

Snowed quite hard early in A.M. & everything covered with ice again. Got about 4 inches of snow again. Dark day until late in P.M. it cleared off. I went too church in A.M. Power was off about an hour early in A.M. Some places 4 hrs. Off here again in P.M. about 4 hrs. Claude, Olive & Leonard went with Marvin, Ginny & the children too Madison Wis where Marvin left too go back too Texas. Ginny & the children will stay here awhile. Cold nite.

12º above. Nice day. Warmed up quite a bit. Most of our snow went. I washed & ironed. Dean's bro't Tommy up & left him while they went too Decorah in P.M. He went riding with Mert & Henry for a while so he wasn't here when his folks came after him. Dean came after him later. Howard, Fern & Shirley were over & spent the eve. Dorothea was here awhile in P.M.

Tues. May 1
Not very nice day. Dark, damp, windy & cool. Started too rain about 3:30 & kept it up most of the nite I guess. Quite a little rain fell. Mon & I went up too Aunt Alice's place early in A.M. & helped get her furniture & things outside ready for the sale. [Mable? Daskam?], Merle & Elsie were there too & Mert helped part of the time. They had the sale in P.M. Started at 1. Mon helped with the money. The Bazaar Boosters served lunch. They made their coffee here. I was back & forth from here to the sale until it was over. The girls served pie, doughnuts & coffee. They did real well.

Wed. May 2
Rather dark & damp at times. Sun shone part of the day too. Ernie was up in P.M. & fixed the T.V. Arthur & the boys came up in eve & stayed while Ruth & I went too choir practice. Rained in the nite.

Thurs. May. 3
Rained almost all day & sometimes quite hard. Didn't do much. Mon went too Lodge in eve but not enough out too hold Lodge. Cleared off in eve.

Fri. May 4
Quite a nice day. Warmed up some in P.M. We raked & cleaned off the strawberry bed & garden in P.M. & burned the plot by the garden. Dean's got baby chicken's today.

Sat. May 5
Sprinkled off & on in A.M. & then in P.M. it rained. Sometimes quite hard & most of the nite too I guess. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & dug up some shrubbery & got some eggs. We set that out, in places where some of ours north of the house had died, after dinner & then we went too Decorah for a little while. Had a letter from Isa.

Very nice day. Warmed up quite a little. I washed & ironed. Dean's bro't Tommy up about 9 & left him while they & Wallace's went fishing at Dreshbach. They got back about 5 but didn't have any luck. Mon took the car down too the garage too have the brakes fixed. He was there most of A.M. & he & Tommy were there most of P.M. I went too Lodge in eve. Not many out. Had a lunch.

Tues. May 8
Not too bad a day. Windy & cooler. Did cloud up late in P.M. but didn't rain. Mon was at the garage most of the day. Got the car this P.M. I worked at the P.O. this P.M. Dorothy & Ted went too La Crosse.

Wed. May 9
Rather cloudy & damp in A.M. but cleared off later in P.M. Mon went down too Arthur's awhile in A.M. He took me up too the church in P.M. Had our W.S.C.S. meeting there. Had a picnic lunch & a good one. Not too many out. Went too choir practice in eve.

Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. I went too Decorah in A.M. with Howard & Fern. Went too Viola Steven's in P.M. with Lillian, Elsie, Fern & Charlene. Viola was entertaining ladies who had Stanley parties for her. Large crowd out. Had a good time & a good lunch. Got back too B.O. about 5. There had been quite an accident just before we got back. Howard was coming too B.O. for Shirley when a beer truck hit him. Hit Mert's truck too. Smashed up Howard's car quite a bit & jarred him pretty much. Mert wasn't in the truck & it didn't hurt it too much. Pushed it around. Mon had gone to Mabel with Howard just after dinner. He went too Lodge in eve but no Lodge again. Bad wind in the nite. No damage here but tornado's in Minn. & Kansas. Philip Seelye passed away this A.M.

Fri. May 11
Quite a nice day. Warmer. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. We stopped a few minutes at Arthur's. Anita, Elsie, Lillian, Florence, & I went picking flowers in P.M. for our Mother's Day doings tomorrow. Saw so many pretty ones. Dance tonite but we didn't go.

Sat. May 12
Rather damp & cloudy most of the day. Quite warm. The Joan of Arc entertained the Mothers of the community at a Mother's Day program & lunch at the M.E. church in P.M. The girls had a good program & good lunch. Quite a few out. Arthur's came up awhile in eve. They gave me a very pretty necklace for Mother's Day. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. & got a hair cut.

Sun. May 13
Sprinkled some in A.M. Sun shone later in the day. Quite warm day until late in P.M. The wind blew quite hard in P.M. & changed from south to north & got much cooler. I went too church in A.M. We went too Philip Seelye's funeral at the M.E. church in P.M. with Claude's. Mon & Claude were pall bearers. We went over too Harolds after the funeral for lunch. Quite a few out to the funeral. Marilyn, Adrain, Harlan & Ruth sang. Dean's came just after we got home & stayed awhile. They bro't me a nice vase with the [frog?] to go with it.

Nice day. Cool. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Arthur's & Deans. I went up too Audrey L's in eve. A bunch of Rebekah's met there & prepared things for our Convention. She had such a good lunch. Howard & Shirley stayed here while Fern & I were up there. Dean's were up a while too. Cold nite.

Tues. May 15
Rather a cold windy day. Sun shone part of the time. Ruth bro't the boys up about 8:30 & left them. She was going too Decorah to the 8th Grade Graduation. We went too Spring Grove about 9. Went down too Dean's in P.M. The children & I went down on Howard's creek after flowers. Had a good time. Mon came after us about 5 & we left Danny & Billy at their home on our way home. Mon went back to Spring Grove in P.M. & bought a new corn planter $255.00. Cold nite.

Wed. May 16
Not too bad a day but chilly & windy. Dorothea R. was here awhile in A.M. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & P.M. I went too choir practice in eve. Cold nite. Frost. Had a letter from Isa.

Thurs. May 17
Nice bright day but windy & chilly. Mon was at Deans' all A.M. working in the field. They went too Decorah. He was at Albert's for seed corn in P.M. & at Spring Grove for parts that were not on the planter. I went too the Plymouth church in P.M. with Dorothea R. too a "Shower" for Eileen Reihle. Quite a few out & she got lots of nice gifts. We went down too Dean's late in P.M. awhile. I went too a "Shower" at the Lutheran church in eve for Mr. & Mrs. Don Richards (nee Darlene Walter). Quite a few out & they got nice gifts. Had a short program & a nice lunch. Deans bro't me home. Mon went too Lodge but there wasn't any. Cold nite.

Quite a nice day but windy & cool. Mon was at Dean's most of the day. I went too Decorah too Lodge in eve with Dorothea. Some from other Lodge's there too. They had a Memorial Service after Lodge & a very nice lunch. Played Bingo awhile too. Got home about 11:30.

Sat. May 19
Nice day. Warmer. I went too Decorah with Arthur's about 9 A.M. We had too get all of Mrs. K's stuff out of her house for her Sale in P.M. Worked hard all A.M. Sale started about 1:20 & was through about 3. Some things went quite good & some not so good. Mon came down in P.M. We took Mrs. K. over town after the Sale so she could deposit the money she took in & then back too her house too help load her things she kept too take up to Arthur's. Got home about 6. Mrs. K. has rented her house.

Sun. May 20
Not very nice in A.M. Sprinkled some & looked quite rainy. Cleared off in P.M. & was nice. Warm. I went too church in A.M. We went down to the home school too their picnic after church. Quite a few out & we sure had a good dinner. Stayed there until about 3. Went for a little ride before we came home.

Dandy nice day. Very warm. Mon was at Dean's in P.M. awhile discing. I washed & ironed. Spaded in the yard & planted some flower seeds & bulbs in P.M. I went too Lodge in eve. We planned some more for our Convention. Warm nite.

Very warm in A.M. & sunny. Clouded up in P.M. & rained a little & got colder. Cleared off again late in P.M. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. & again in P.M. till it rained.

Wed. May 23
Quite a nice day but cool. Mon was at Dean's some. We went down there late in P.M. & Linda & Tommy went with us too Albert's for more seed corn. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. May 24
Quite a nice day. Warmer. Mon went too Decorah early in A.M. & was back about 9:30. He went down too Dean's awhile. Dean finished planting corn in A.M. I went up too the church about 10:30. Elsie, Fern, Mrs. Lloyd K., Eleanor U. & Myrtle S. served for the W.S.C.S. dinner. Very large crowd out. Took in around $90.00. Very good dinner too. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. May 25
Quite a warm day. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. He brought the tractor home & plowed the garden right after dinner. We set out 85 strawberry plants & I planted some garden. Mon took the tractor home late in P.M. We went too the dance at the hall in eve. Not too big a crowd out but they had a good time.

Sat. May 26
Warm day. Looked rainy at times but didn't rain. We went too Decorah in P.M. & then when we got home I washed my hair & we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. Got some cabbage, tomato & pepper plants in town.

Rather cloudy & looked quite stormy at times but didn't rain. Quite warm. I went too church in A.M. We went down on Joe's fishing in P.M. Got 42. Arthur's & Mrs. K. were up in eve. Rained just enough too dampen the grass & plants in the nite.

Damp & dark in A.M. but didn't rain. Did rain some in P.M. & then between 5 & 6 it sure did pour down with quite an electrical storm. Rained hard again in the nite with plenty of thunder & lightning. We finished our garden this A.M. Set out our plants, planted potatoes corn etc. Mon went down too Arthurs awhile in P.M. & helped vaccinate cattle. I went up too the church in eve. 4th quarterly conference. Dr. Dunn was there. Over 2 inches of rain fell. Aunt Eunice came up too Lizzie's tonite.
Gas tank went dry.

Tues. May 29
Rained quite hard early in A.M. & then was dark, damp & cool until later in P.M. the sun came out & shone some. Rather windy.

Wed. May 30
Quite a nice day but cool & windy. We took Aunt Eunice up too the cemetry about 10 A.M. I went up too Lydia W's in P.M. too see Dorothea, who was there. Rex & May were there awhile too. Iona M. was here awhile in eve. I went too choir practice. Cool nite.

Thurs. May 31
Chilly windy day. Sun shone some & it rained off & on all day. I washed. Dean's bro't Tommy up here about 9 & left him. They went too La Crosse. Linda went with them. Mon & Tommy took me too Club at Elsie's in P.M. Tommy stayed with Mon. I rode home with Charlene. Dean's came just as I got home. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Ida H. came & spent the eve with me. Cold nite.

Quite a bright day but cool & windy. I went too see Dorothea early in A.M. Ironed when I got home. We went down too Dean's in P.M. Mon helped Dean change the wheels on the tractor. I helped Iona set out some plants. We stopped at Arthur's a while on our way home. Cool nite again.

Quite a nice day but cool. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. Albert Emery rode home with us. We went by Arlin's & left him there. Cool nite.

Quite a nice day. Some warmer. I went too church in A.M. We went too Lanesboro in P.M. too a ball game, between Mabel & Lanesboro. Mert plays with Mabel as does Bill Headington. We sat with Elsie & her boys & Mrs. Bill & her girls. Quite a game. Mabel 11 & Lanesboro 2.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. Primary Election today so Mon left home about 6:45. I went too Lodge in eve. Iona M. bro't lunch so we had a nice lunch after our meeting which was rather long. Inez W. came home with me & stayed until the men came which was about 9:45.

Tues. June 5
Nice day. I went too Decorah about 8:30 with Dorothea R. too get the last minute things for our Convention. Nellie N. went along too. We got home about 10:45. Mon swept out the lower hall in A.M. A bunch of us Rebekah's cleaned & fixed up the lower hall in P.M. getting ready. Went up too the church in eve too a meeting.

Wed. June 6
Nice day. Did look rainy at times but didn't rain. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. He took me down too Dean's just after dinner & Iona pinned up my hair. He bro't Dean's mower home & mowed our yard. Olive, Gladys, Audrey L. & I decorated & fixed the tables at the M.E. church. Dorothea came a short time before we were through. Went too choir practice in eve. Rained in the nite. Had a letter from Isa.

Thurs. June 7
Dandy nice warm day. We went down too the hall early in A.M. with flowers & decorated. It sure looked nice. Went back down there a little after 12. Had our Convention in P.M. & eve. It started about 1:45. Rebekah's from Postville, Rossville, Monona, West Union, Decorah, Cresco & Canton. Bertha Wymore Pres. of Reb. Ass. & Bertha Stimpson, Grand Master's wife, Vivian Nelson P.P. & her mother were there. Good meeting in P.M. Had a grand dinner at the M.E. church at 6. Decorah initiated 2 candidates from their Lodge in eve. Pres. talked. Had ice cream, cake & coffee after all was over. Over 100 there. Bertha Wymore & Bertha Stimpson stayed here all nite.

Fri. June 8
Nice warm day. The two Bertha's left about 9:15. We went down too the hall in P.M. & cleaned up. Went too Prosper a few minutes afterward.

Sat. June 9
Nice warm day. We went down too Arthur's about 8 & picked up the boys. Went on over too Dean's a few minutes. Bro't the boys home with us. Arthur's & Mrs. K. went too Decorah. We washed the car in A.M. Mon & Dean went too Prosper after some lumber just about noon so we were late for dinner. Arthur's came just as we were ready too eat so they ate with us. We went too Decorah in P.M. Dean's were here a minute in eve.

Sun. June 10
Nice day. Very warm. Went too church in A.M. The children who were in Bible School had a program & then Rev. Huffman talked awhile. Had a meeting after church so didn't get home very early. Went too the church in eve. Had an Old Fashioned Sing. Quite a few out & we sure sang. Had a lunch afterward.

Nice hot day again. Dean went too Prosper in A.M. & got some boards too make a floor for the wagon box. Mon was down there in P.M. working.

Nice hot day again. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Dean's part of the day. Dorothea & Gladys were here awhile after dinner.

Wed. June 13
Very hot day. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & we mowed lawn too. He went too Dean's in P.M. I went up too the church in P.M. W.S.C.S. meeting there. Mrs. [Condon?] from Calmar showed a Cancer film before the meeting. Not too many out. It was really chilly in the basement. Had a nice lunch. We went down too Arthur's awhile after supper. Ruth has bursitis & she is in pretty much pain.

Thurs. June 14
Hot day again. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. & P.M. I was out collecting money on the minister's salary in A.M. & P.M. Dr., Norma & Ada came down late in P.M. too mow their lawn. I was up there awhile. Mon went down too Arthur's awhile in A.M. & helped him fix his tractor. He went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. June 15
Quite a warm day but not quite as hot as the other days. Mon took me over too Anita's & Hilda's early in A.M. & I finished up collecting money & then we took it down too Albert. He worked at Dean's in P.M. Vera Quandahl was here awhile about supper time. They had had a flat tire down the road a ways & Mon bro't her up here & Harry & the tire too the garage. He went on back with Harry then & helped him.

Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Rained hard late in P.M. & again in eve. Warm. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. & when we got home I washed my hair & then we went down too Dean's & Iona cut some of it off & then pinned it up. We had a lunch, out in the yard, down there. Had a letter from Isa.

Nice day & quite warm. No S.S. or church today. Conference Sun. We went down too Padden's in P.M. but there was no one home so we went on over too Clermont & West Union & then on home. Had a nice ride. Picked about 1½ qts. of berries this A.M.

Mon. June 18
Hot day. Rained some in A.M. I left home about 7 A.M. with Miriam & went down to Brayton's. We & Florence went with them too Mason City too the Methodist Conference for the day. Saw Schepples, Mr. Goodrich & the Arnold's. Beautiful church but plenty hot. We saw Dr. Dunn just before we came home. Stopped at Osage & had supper. Got back home about 8:30. I went too Lodge. Joe Moran's birthday & Iona served cake, ice cream & coffee.

Tues. June 19
Very hot day again. I washed & ironed & picked about 5 qts. of berries. Mon was at Arthur's helping him fix his hay rack. Mike Blaess died suddenly at Leonard's this eve.

Wed. June 20
Hot day again. I picked about 5 qts. of berries again today. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. He rode with Mert some in P.M. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. June 21
Hot day. Clouded up in P.M. & looked like a bad storm but it all passed over. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. Ruth & the boys, Marilyn & Eleanor U. were here in P.M. We appointed the committee's for the coming year for the W.S.C.S. Mon went too Lodge in eve. I picked about 10 qts. of berries today.

Fri. June 22
Had a very hard rain & a bad wind storm with plenty of thunder & lightning about 3 A.M. Was quite a nice day only warm. We took 7 packages of strawberries down too Dean's early in A.M. & put them in the deep freeze. They went too Lloyd's & then the men went fishing. Picked a few berries. We mowed lawn & Mon rode with Mert some.

Sat. June 23
Nice day. I picked 10 qts of berries in A.M. Dean & Tommy were up a few minutes in A.M. & then Mon went down there too help Dean get a sow out of a hole. We went too Decorah in P.M. Plenty warm down there. Went down too Dean's a few minutes after we got home. When we got back Lester & Isa were here. They & Gladys A. came up. Lester's were here all nite. Got cooler at nite. Marvin got back here tonite.

Sun. June 24
Nice day & cooler. Isa & I went too church. Our new minister Rev. Senecal was here & preached. Young man with 4 children. Just he & his wife here today. We had a picnic here for dinner. Arthur's, Dean's, Claudes & Marvins. Had a good dinner. Lester's left right after dinner. Went too church in eve. The M.Y.F. had a guest speaker a minister from Castalia our new minister spoke, the choir sang & Ruth & Mrs. Dokken's violin pupils had a program. Linda played. They were good. Had a lunch in the basement afterward. Arthur's bro't me home.

Nice day & cool. I picked about 15 qts. of berries in A.M. & picked them over & got them ready for the locker in P.M. Mon rode with Mert in A.M. & was down too Dean's awhile in P.M. Had quite a storm in the nite again & a very heavy rain.

Tues. June 26
Rained most of A.M. & at times quite hard. Cleared off in P.M. & was warm. I picked about 7 qts. of berries in P.M. Dean's were here a few minutes in eve. Arthur's bro't the boys up & left them all nite. They went too Rochester with Wayne's too see Alice Wilbur who is at St. Mary's. She had a gall bladder operation.

Wed. June 27
Nice day. Cool. I washed & ironed. Ruth came after the boys about noon. Mon was at Dean's awhile in P.M. Went too choir practice in eve. Cool nite.

Thurs. June 28
Nice day but cool. I picked some berries in A.M. Mon was at Dean's. I went too Club at Fern's in P.M. with Anita. Pretty good crowd out. Had a swell lunch. Tommy came home too supper with Mon & then Mon took him home after supper & helped Dean awhile. I went up too the Lutheran Young People's ice cream social in eve & then too the hall where Dorothea, Nellie & Audrey audited the Rebekah's books. Mon went too Lodge. Cool nite.

Fri. June 29
Nice day. Got warmer during the day. Mon was at Dean's awhile in A.M. I washed my hair after dinner & then we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair.

Sat. June 30
Nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Mon got a hair cut. I picked about 4 qts. of berries. We took part of them down too Arthur's after supper. Had a note from Isa today that Lester was in the hospital with kidney infection.

Sun. July 1
Terrible looking storm early in A.M. about 7 & it lasted over an hour. Wind blew quite hard for awhile but it didn't rain much. Bad wind at Decorah & tornado's near Calmar. Cleared off later & was quite a nice day. Cooler. Went too church & then we went too a picnic at Phelps park in Decorah for Marvin & Ginny. Paul, Marie & the kiddies came about 2 A.M. so they were here for it. Walters, Quandahls, Wicks, Prices. About 40 there. Had a swell dinner & a good visit. Pauls went home about 6. Edie Reed died at the Decorah hospital this A.M.

Mon. July 2
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Arthur's helping haul in bales. Rev. & Mrs. Senecal were here awhile in P.M. I went too Lodge in eve. Rev. Huffman's left B.O. this A.M.

Tues. July 3
Nice in A.M. but cooler. Clouded up later in P.M. & looked rainy. Did sprinkle some. We went too Edie Reed's funeral at the M.E. church in P.M. Mon was a pall bearer & Irene F. & I took care of flowers. Quite a few out. Ida Halse & Edith Perry were here awhile after we got home. Mon & I went up too the parsonage about 7:30 A.M. The man with Rev. Senecal's goods came just then & we helped them unload & unpack dishes, canned goods etc. Marilyn & Anita were there too as was Adrain, Bud, Albert & Paul P. The Senecal's have been staying with Bud & Opal.

Wed. July 4
Cold, dark, dreary day. Just quite chilly. We went down too Arthur's & spent the day. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. July 5
Quite a nice day & somewhat warmer. Mon was at Arthur's part of the day. We went down too Dean's after supper. Mon helped Dean change the front wheels on the tractor. We got a couple of young roosters. I went too a meeting at the church when we got back. Marvin, Ginny & the children started for Texas early this A.M.

Fri. July 6
Quite a nice day. Got quite warm before the day was over. Mon was at Arthur's. He came home for dinner & we had one of the chickens. He went back in P.M. Earl & young Vince Delay, Neva & John Raymond were here awhile in A.M. Pierre Feltis & his wife & Pearl Feltis Barnes were here in P.M.

Sat. July 7
Looked quite rainy at times. Cool. We went too Decorah a little while just after dinner. Mon was at Arthur's in A.M. & for dinner. Cool nite.

Sun. July 8
Cloudy at times & the sun shone at times. Sprinkled some. Cool wind & it was quite windy. I went too church in AM. We went too Mabel in P.M. too a ball game. Mabel & La Crescent. Mabel got beat. Cool nite.

Nice bright day. Some warmer but still quite windy & the wind was cool. Mon was at Arthur's hauling in bales. I washed windows in A.M. Went too Lutheran L.A.S. in P.M. Had a nice lunch. Evelyn U., Rose B., Lenora L., Eda S. served. Went too choir practice in eve.

Sun shone at times & it was cloudy at times. Looked quite rainy in P.M. but only a few sprinkles. Warmed up in P.M. & was quite warm. Mon was at Arthur's hauling in bales all day. I went too W.S.C.S. at Phyllis W's in P.M. with Florence. Pretty good crowd out. Had a good lunch.

Thurs. July 12
Quite a warm day & eve. Looked quite rainy at times during the day but it didn't rain. Mon was at Arthur's all day hauling in bales. He got through there tonite. I went up too the Lutheran church about 5 P.M. The Joan of Arc had an ice cream social up there for the benefit of the cemetry. Pretty good crowd came. Mon came up about 8 & I ate lunch with him. Howard & Fern bro't me home about 10:30. We took in over $93.00.

Fri. July 13
Quite a nice day but cool. We went down too Dean's about 7 A.M. & got 3 young chicken's. Dressed them after breakfast. Mon rode with Mert a little while in A.M. I washed my hair after dinner & we went down too Dean's & Iona pinned it up. Linda, Tommy & I went up in the woods looking for berries, but the Christopherson girls came down so we had too come back to the house before we got far. He had a lunch there before we came home. I went over too Hilda's in eve too meet with her, Inez, Muriel & Rosella too plan for our dinner next week.

Sat. July 14
Quite a nice day. Mon was at Arthur's hauling manure in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. We went down too Arthur's when we got home & Mon helped until quitting time. We got a watermelon in Decorah & Arthur's came up in eve & helped eat it.

Sun. July 15
Quite a nice day & much warmer. I went too church in A.M. We went too Canton in P.M. too a ball game. Mabel & Canton. Mabel 3 Canton 2. Good game. I sat with Elsie & Hazel in Mert's car.

Nice day. Mon was at Arthur's in A.M. hauling manure. I washed in A.M. Mon came home at noon & then he took Olive & I too Dean's in P.M. & we picked gooseberries. He worked at Dean's awhile & then went back to Arthur's. Tommy came home too dinner with him. Claude came & got us about 4:30. I ironed after I got home. Went too Lodge in eve. Not many out. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up & left them all nite. They went too a Shower Dance on Mr. & Mrs. Ronald Barth, nee Dorothy Schnitzler.

Tues. July 17
Nice day. Mon was at Arthur's. I picked over gooseberries & canned 6½ pts. We went down too Dean's in eve & got 4 old hens.

Wed. July 18
Rather a cloudy day & cooler. Mon killed the old hens & helped me pick them early this A.M. I got them dressed & my salads made in A.M. Cooked the chicken, partly, in P.M. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. July 19
Rained quite hard in A.M. & then let up later & the sun shone some in P.M. Clouded up again later in P.M. & it looked like quite a bad storm with quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Rained very hard at times & we got about 2 inches of rain during the day. Sure needed it. Got much cooler in later P.M. Mon took me up too the church about 10. Hilda, Muriel, Rosella, Inez & I entertained. Had a very large crowd. Took in over $90.00. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. July 20
Rather dark in A.M. early but it did clear off later. Rather cool. Mon went down too Arthur's in A.M. Bill came home too dinner with him & then they went back right after dinner. Arthur started windrowing his grain today. Olive & I picked our beans this P.M. & Dean, Iona & Tommy came up in eve & got them. Linda is at Clyde's. Cool nite.

Quite a nice day but cool. We went too Decorah in P.M. Lizzie went with us. Lila Erickson rode home with us too.

Sun. July 22
Quite a nice day. Some warmer but quite windy. I went too church in A.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. too the ball game. Mabel 10 & Lanesboro 2. I went up too the church in eve too a party for the minister's. Quite a few out. Some of the Ridgeway people over too. Had picnic lunch & a very good one. I rode home with Fish Ward's.

Mon. July 23
Nice day. Warmer. I washed in A.M. Just got the washing done & the water emptied when Elsie called that our new stove had come so we went up too the church. Merle & Mon helped the men get the old stove out of the basement & the new stove in. We came back home about 10:30 & then went back too the church about 11 too see about the lighting of the stove etc. It was 12:30 when we got home then. I ironed in P.M. Mon went down too Arthur's in P.M. but no one home.

Tues. July 24
Quite nice in A.M. Mon went down too Arthur's in A.M. awhile. It did rain quite hard in P.M. Mon & I went up too the church about 7:30. Merle & Elsie were there & we straightened tables etc. around after the stove moving. Merle's & Mon left & Gloria & Harlan, Florence & Albert, Charlene & I met with Otto Jacobson too see about fixing some drawers in under the serving counter. Rev. Senecal's came over & then we went over there & had coffee & cookies. Albert's bro't me home.

Wed. July 25
Nice day. Mon went down too Arthur's & Dean's in A.M. I went too Decorah in P.M. with Claude's. Gloriaan & Eunice entertained the Spring [water?] Aide at the Lutheran Parish house. Not too many out. Had a nice lunch. Mon stayed at the Station for Gordon part of the P.M. & eve. He mowed the lawn after dinner. Went too choir practice in eve.

Thurs. July 26
Nice day & quite warm. Mon rode with Mert some in A.M. He went too Dean's in P.M. & cut the grain for the combine. I went too Club at Bernell S's with Marilyn. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Warm nite.

Fri. July 27
Rather cloudy at times & the sun shone some too. Quite warm but cooled off quite a bit late in P.M. & eve. Mon was at Arthur's all day combining. Dorothea came up just after dinner & pinned up my hair. I went up too the church in eve. Had a farewell party for Gladys & Ole. Had a nice program. Quite a few out & a good picnic lunch.

Sat. July 28
Looked rainy at times & did sprinkle a little in A.M. & then more in P.M. Mon was at Arthur's combining in A.M. He came home about 2 & we went too Decorah for a little while. Went down too Dean's & got some eggs & a chicken. Got cooler late in P.M. Had a letter from Isa.

Quite a nice day but cool. Went too church in A.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. too the ball game. Quite a game 12 innings. Mabel 9 Spring Grove 8. Didn't get home until about 6.

Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & started sprinkling about 9:30. Kept it up off & on all day & rained quite hard at times. Had quite an electrical storm in the nite with a lot of rain. About 2.9 inches fell during the day & nite. I washed & then when it started too rain I bro't the clothes in & put them up stairs on the lines. Cool day & nite. Mon went down too Arthur's too combine but it was too wet.

Tues. July 31
Dark, damp, cool day. Rained some. Didn't do much except the ironing.

Wed. Aug. 1
Quite a nice day & warmer. Olive had a party for Lucile Mason, who is visiting Ted & Dorothy, in P.M. Lucile, Maude J., Hilda R., Genev, Ruth K., Nettie L. came. (She had invited more). Dorothy came up awhile. We visited, looked at old pictures & old school records. Olive served such a good lunch. We mowed lawn after supper. Went too choir practice.

Thurs. Aug. 2
Dark, damp, rainy, cold day again. We went too Decorah about 9:30. Mon got a hair cut. He got some new trousers too & they had too be fixed some so we were down there until after dinner. Had our dinner there. Mon went too Lodge. Fern & Shirley came over & stayed while Howard went too Lodge. Decorah came up & installed officers.
Gas tank went dry tonite.

Fri. Aug. 3
Rather dark early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Plenty warm in P.M. Mon went down too Arthur's after dinner & helped combine. Jon Price came about 2:30. He has a car & drove that through. He & I went down too Arthur's & I stayed there then until Mon & Dean quit work. Arthur kept on for a while. Jon stayed down there. Warm nite. Gladys & Ole Albertson moved too Decorah today where they have purchased a home. Ben & Alyse bought theirs.

Sat. Aug. 4
Quite a nice day & plenty warm. Mon went down too Arthur's & helped combine awhile in A.M. & then he came home & we went too Decorah about 10:30. Got home before noon & had dinner & he went back too Arthur's. Had a letter from Isa.

Damp & dark in A.M. & didn't look too good in P.M. Mon was at Dean's. They combined. I went too W.S.C.S. at Violet's in P.M. with Florence. Quite a few out. Had a good lunch. Went too choir practice in eve.

Quite a nice day. Warm in P.M. Mon went too Dean's in A.M. They finished combining there early in P.M. I went too Mabel in P.M. with Ruth too a Flower Show. The Methodist church. Ruth (violin) & Joyce (piano) played. They had beautiful flowers. Had lunch afterward. We mowed the lawn after I got home. Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went up too the parsonage to a meeting.

Fri. Aug. 10
Quite a nice day. We went down too Dean's awhile late in P.M. Arthur's & Jon, Dean's, Albert, Florence & Shirley were here & spent the eve. Had a picnic lunch & a good one.

Sat. Aug. 11
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Rained in the nite. Betty Reid, Leo Carolan & Mr. & Mrs. Bob Carolan were in an accident on the Locust road about 11 P.M. Betty got bruised but Leo was quite badly hurt & taken too Rochester & operated on right away.

Rained off & on all day & some times quite hard. I went too church in A.M.

Mon. Aug. 13
Nice day. I pulled weeds in the garden most of A.M. Mon went too Spring Grove in eve to a ball game. I went up too the church too a meeting. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Aug. 14
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Olive & I went too Lutheran Aide in P.M. Dorothy Emmons invited us. Not too big a crowd. Had a nice lunch. Mon went too Mabel after dinner with Dean & then he went down too Arthur's awhile. I went up too the church in eve. Some of us met too fix up the Date Books for the coming year of the W.S.C.S.

Wed. Aug. 15
Quite a nice day. Very warm. We were in Decorah in P.M. Mon got the car washed & got new tires. I got my hair cut, washed & set. Mon was in Decorah in A.M. too. Went too choir practice in eve. Mon went too a ball game at Spring Grove in eve with Ronald Webb. Warm nite.

Thurs. Aug. 16
Nice day & warm. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. We went down there in late P.M. but no one home. We went down too Arthur's in eve awhile. Dean's were there a little while too. Ruth & the boys rode up town with us. She went too a meeting at the ministers & the boys home with us. Arthur & Jon came up later. We watched the Democratic Convention. Adalia Stevenson got the ballot for Democratic Pres. of the U.S. Ruth came up about 9:30 & they went home soon. Jon leaves for home in the morning.

Fri. Aug. 17
Quite a nice day. Cloudy quite a bit of the time. Fine for riding. We left home about 7:30. Starting on a trip. Up through Minn. Across the state west from Preston. Stopped a few times. Got too Arlington S. Dak. about 4:30 & got a cabin at the Conley Motel. Went down town about 6 for supper. Wind got into the north & sprinkled a little & got much cooler. $5.00 for cabin.

Sat. Aug. 18
Rained off & on all A.M. & was cloudy until later in P.M. Plenty cool. We wore our coats most of the day. Left Arlington about 6:30 & stopped for breakfast at Aberdeen. Stopped awhile at Jamestown N.Dak. at noon. Came on too Minot where we stayed all nite. Sure saw some good crops on the way here. Cool nite. Stayed at Courtesy Court. Very nice. $6.00. Had heat on for a while.

Sun. Aug. 19
Nice day but still the wind was chilly. Left our cabin about 8. Stopped at Stanley for breakfast. Went on almost too Williston & then went up too Fortuna too see Rick & Emma Torgeson. Got there just as they were going too eat dinner (about 12:30). Irene & her son Neil were there too for dinner. Ronnie was home. Had a good visit. Irene went home about 4:30. We stayed all nite. Cool nite.

Mon. Aug. 20
Dandy nice day. Got much warmer. We left Rick's about 8 & got too the Montana line about 8:20 or 7:20 as the time changed there. We stopped at the Ft. Peck Dam awhile. Drove around there & took in the sights. Had a lunch at Hinsdale. Got to Malta about 4:15. Got a cabin at Mann's $6.00. Mon got the oil changed in the car.

Tues. Aug. 21
Dandy nice warm day. We started out about 6 & drove until 8 when we had a grand breakfast at Chinook. We got too Glacier National Park about 1:30 & went over the Going-to-the-Sun Highway from east to west. It was a grand trip. Saw some beautiful scenery, picked up some from an avalanche that had landed beside the road. Sure went over some high roads. Got too Coram about 5:15. Got a nice cabin at Arts Cabins for $6.00. Went out & had a good dinner. Went over the Continental Divide in the Park about 3:20.

Wed. Aug. 22
Dandy nice day. Got quite warm before the day was over. We had breakfast at Coram before we left there. Left about 7:30. Went out to the Hungry Horse Dam (about 6 mi) & then back to the route & on too Missoula. Got here about 1 P.M. Called Herb Van Vleit & he came up town & met us & we followed him out to his home. Mate is in bed with a bad back. Had been in the Hospital over a week. Georgia came in P.M. so we got too see her. Herb took us for a ride around the city late in P.M. Came back & had supper & stayed all nite. They have a lady who comes in & helps out. One of the neighbor ladies was in, in eve.

Thurs. Aug. 23
Dandy nice day. Got pretty warm in P.M. We left Herb's about 9 A.M. with him in his car & a neighbor lady Mrs. Hill & her little dog & went fishing. Didn't have any luck at the first place so went on further too another place. Ate our lunch & then Mon & Herb got 11 cut throat trout. Came on home then. Had about 120 mile trip up in & over the mts. & it was nice but plenty dusty coming home. Had the trout for supper & they were sure good. Mate was up for supper & then sat up until almost 9. Mrs. Hill was over awhile in eve.

Fri. Aug. 24
Cloudy & rainy most of A.M. Cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. & got quite warm later in P.M. We left Herb's about 7:30 A.M. Stopped off & on during the day. Went over the Continental Divide again east of Butte 6418 ft. Came on too Columbus & got a motel at the Columbus Motel at 5.50. Nice place. Had our baths, changed clothes & went out too supper at the Liberty Cafe. Had a good supper. Fish & other things. Saw Billie Reid & Harold Gossman. They were on their way too B.O. for a couple of weeks.

Sat. Aug. 25
Dandy nice day. We got up early had breakfast, got the car greased & then started for Cecilia's. Got lost but did find them after while. She was making strawberry preserves & I helped her with that. Jesse was up town. A couple (Dick & Ethel Riddle) were picking berries & they stayed & visited awhile. Jesse got back before dinner & he & Henry went fishing awhile but they only got 1 small fish. We had a good dinner & then went up too the other place. Went too see Oral Blankenships too. The old place looked natural & it was good too go back. Came home & did up the chores & another neighbor came. We took our supper down on the river bank & had a fire there. Toasted wieners & marshmallows.

Sun. Aug. 26
Nice & bright in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained some. Cleared off again late in P.M. We took our dinner & went up too the Mystic Lake Dam. Looked around at the power house awhile & then came back aways & had dinner. Mon & Jesse fished awhile. It rained some while we were there. Got home about 5:30. Sure had a nice trip. One of the neighbors was there fishing & he had caught 2 nice trout & Cecilia had some so he stayed & we had trout supper. Very good. Ott Riddle stayed & played cards awhile. Rained quite hard in the nite with quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Mon. Aug. 27
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained off & on. We left Jesse's about 9:10. Stopped at Columbus & saw Gary Bovee a few minutes & then on our way. Got too Sheridan Wyo about 3:15 & it just poured down. We stopped along the street for nearly an hour until it let up some. So much water in the street in places. We stopped at the J.E. Motel in the south part of town & stayed all nite. $6.00.
Dick & Ethel Riddle came too Cecilia's too pick strawberries again this morning just before we left.

Tues. Aug. 28
Dandy nice day & quite warm. Had breakfast at Sheridan & then left there about seven. Had a flat tire about 8:20. Got it changed in a little while. Got the tire fixed at Gillette. Stopped at a Museum at Billings. It was very interesting. There was a zoo there too but it wasn't much. Went through part of Wyo. & on into the Black Hills at New Castle. Went over too Custer & then down too Hot Springs. Got too Martin S. Dak. about 5:15. Had a lunch there & then started for Kenneth Krumms at the La Cree Wild Life Refuge. Got lost but found the place about 7. Ken, Emily & Mary Ann were in Rapid City. They got home about 10. We visited until about 11. Saw so many Indians on our way today.

Wed. Aug. 29
Nice day. Mary Ann & Don went too school. Ken took all the rest of us for a ride around the Refuge in A.M. There are over 1000 acres in it. Saw lots of ducks & geese. We went back to the house & had lunch. In P.M. Ken, Mon, Mrs. K., Jimmie & I went too Merriman Neb. & to Martin S. Dak. Had some movies of the Indians of the Refuge in eve. Wind came up about supper time & it got much cooler.

Thurs. Aug. 30
Rather cloudy most of A.M. Rained some in A.M. Cleared off some in P.M. & then clouded up later in P.M. Cool most of the day. We left Ken's about 7:45. Mrs. Krumm had been there since the first of July & she came home with us. We made good time. Got back into Iowa about 4 P.M. & came on too Rock Rapids where we stopped at the Modern Motel for the nite. Went up town for dinner. Had a very good dinner. $2.38. Rained some in the nite.

Fri. Aug. 31
Rather cloudy most of A.M. Rained for a little while. Cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. & some warmer. We had our breakfast at Rock Rapids & left there about 7:30. Made good time coming home. Stopped at Osage & got a crate of peaches ($1.79) & musk melon & a watermelon at Kelley's fruit stand. Stopped at Cresco for lunch at noon & got too Dean's a little after 1. She said Dean & Arthur's had gone to Francis Padden's funeral. It was too late for us too go. We took Mrs. K. too Arthur's & came on home. Unpacked & got some things in out of the garden. Had an early supper & went down too Dean's a few minutes & then too Arthur's a while. We sure had a wonderful trip. 3395 miles.

Nice day but cool. Mon was at Dean's all day hauling in bales. I washed some in A.M. Washed my hair in P.M. & then Mon & Tommy came up & got me & I went down too Dean's & Iona pinned up my hair. Had a letter from Isa. Vera Dinger passed away today.
Mr. Koenig passed away on Aug. 25th & was buried the 28th.

Rained some early in A.M. but was quite a nice day. Went too church. We have a Wurlitzer Electric organ on trial at the church. It sounded good. Went up too the church in eve with Albert's to the M.Y.F. Family night. They showed a very good picture, then had lunch & a social hour. Quite a few out.

Nice part of the day. Rained for a while in A.M. & then again some in eve but the rest of the time it was quite nice. Mon was at Arthur's all day. I washed & ironed. Hilda R. was here awhile in P.M. I went too Lodge in eve.

Quite a nice day although it did get cloudy in P.M. We went too Vera Dinger's funeral at Decorah in P.M. Olive went with us. We each got a crate of pears down town. $1.93. Rained in eve & nite. Quite an electrical storm. Over 2 inches of rain fell.

Rather a damp day & cool. Canned some peaches. Did clear off in P.M. Went too choir practice in eve. Albert stayed here & then they stayed until after 11 after we got back from choir practice. Cool nite.

Thurs. Sept. 6
Quite a nice day but chilly. Mon was at Arthur's in P.M. hauling in bales. I canned plums & pears. We went up too Anton McCabes just after supper but he wasn't home. Brayton was here in eve. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Cold nite.

Fri. Sept. 7
Frost on the grass this morn but no harm done. Quite a nice day & much warmer. Mon was at Arthurs until after dinner & they finished hauling in bales. Leonard Dvorak & Anton McCabe were here quite a while very early this A.M. I went down too Joyce's in P.M. too a "party" of Pat Haugland's. She was showing cards & all kinds of things. Quite a few out & we sure had a good lunch. Had a letter from Isa.

Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. Went down too Deans a few minutes before we went. Ernest Sheley was killed up at the Y at Prosper early this A.M. or rather he was hurt so badly he died when they got him on the operating table at La Crosse. He smashed head on into another car.

Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & rained in P.M. Quite hard at times & a good share of P.M. We went too Decorah about 8:30 & ordered flowers for Ernest's funeral for the I.O.O.F. & Rebekah's. I went too church in A.M.

Very nice day. I washed in A.M. Went too Ernest's funeral in P.M. at the M.E. church. Mon was a pall bearer. The I.O.O.F. & Rebekah's were there in a body. Very large crowd out & such beautiful flowers. They had military service at the grave. Went too the parsonage too a parsonage com. meeting at 7 & to the church at 8 to a board meeting. I ironed after the funeral.

Tues. Sept. 11
Nice day. Quite warm. Dorothea R., Leta R., Margaret W., & Hazel H. were here in P.M. finishing up the plans for our annual dinner.

Wed. Sept. 12
Nice day. Quite warm. I canned some in A.M. Went too the church in P.M. too the W.S.C.S. Had a picnic lunch. Quite a few out & a nice lunch. Albert & Florence came up in eve & we watched T.V. awhile & then Florence & I went too choir practice. A La Crosse firm bro't down a Baldwin Electric organ this P.M. & we had that too practice with also the Wurlitzer is still there on trial. Mon was down at Dean's in A.M. & again in P.M. trapping gophers.

Thurs. Sept. 13
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon was at Dean's awhile in A.M. & then he & the carpenter came about 11:30 & started tearing out the old cellar way. Going too have a new one. Mon & I were in Prosper a minute in P.M. ordering some stuff to work with. They did what they could in P.M. & the carpenter went home about 4:30. We went down too Dean's a little while. Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went down town too. Some of the Rebekah's planned too practice some, but we didn't. We did clean up the hall some though after the I.O.O.F. were through. Nice day but cool. Mon rode some with Mert in A.M. & then went down too Arthur's awhile in P.M. They got a T.V. set this A.M. Zenith. I went too a surprise birthday party for Anita & Grace at Marilyn's in P.M. with Lillian. Quite a few out & they got money. Nice presents. Had a delicious lunch. Dorothea, Lydia & I went over too Allan Holkesvick's just after supper too see more about the turkeys for our annual dinner. Rained some in the nite with quite a bit of thunder & lightning. Roy's brother-in-law died so he couldn't come back too work today.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Roy came back this morn & worked at the cellar way. I went too Lodge in eve. Had company from Canton, Cresco & Decorah. Played bingo awhile. Had a nice lunch afterward. Dean & Tommy were here awhile in A.M. Roy put a new cement platform at the pump. Cool nite.

Tues. Sept. 18
Rather a cloudy cool day & damp in A.M. but the sun did come out in P.M. Roy came back this A.M. & finished the cellar way & steps on the east & west of the porch. Dean's came up early in A.M. Dean took the car to the garage too have it fixed. Iona gave me a permanent in A.M. Dean took our car & took Iona & Tommy home after dinner. I went up too the church too work. Dean bro't our car back in P.M. & got his. Cool nite.

Wed. Sept. 19
Nice day. Quite warm. Dorothea & I went too Hesper about 1:30 after our turkeys. I shut my thumb in the car door just as we got over there. Got 23 turkey's & they weighed 530.6 lbs. @ 25¢ per lb. $132.65 & $17.25 for dressing them. We delivered some around town & then other's came here & got them. Went too choir practice in eve. My thumb hurt so much I didn't get much sleep.

Thurs. Sept. 20
Our 40th Wedding Anniversary. Nice day. Got my turkey in to bake & then we made up our minds too go too the Dr. about my thumb & so I shut the oven off & we went down too Dr. Wright. A bone was broken so he put a splint on it so I could work. Mon took me up too the church about 2 & I worked the rest of the P.M. & eve. We had our Annual Turkey Dinner. Started serving before 4:30 & served until about 9. Big crowd. Everything went very good. Albert's bro't me home. Dean & Tommy were here awhile just after dinner.

Nice day. Mon took me up too the church about 8:30 & we cleaned up the mess from last night. Quite a few out too help.

Nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. & I went & had my thumb dressed. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up in eve & left them. They are leaving later in the night for up north on a fishing trip. I went too Mabel late in P.M. with Miriam too order flowers for the Lutheran church.

Nice day. Ruth came up & got Linda & Tommy & took them too S.S. with her. Mon took me too church & he bro't the children home. Danny & Billy too. Ruth bro't me home from church & took the boys home with her. We went for a nice ride in P.M. The Lutheran Church had their Dedication Service for their new part of their church today.

Dandy nice warm day. I went with Mon & Tommy when they took Linda too school & went on down home & picked in a big pail of tomatoes for Iona. Mon took Linda too Arthur's a few minutes after school for Ruth too help her with her violin lesson. I went too Prosper in eve with Florence too the neighborhood Club's Bazaar & lunch. Ruth & Mrs. K. & Maude went too. Quite a few out. They had very nice things & such a good lunch. The kiddies had a card from their folks.

Dandy nice warm day. Mon & Tommy took Linda too school. I went too Club in P.M. with Inez. Club met at Maurice Snell's. Quite a few out. Had a swell lunch. Linda stayed at Wallace's tonite. She went to Locust in eve with them too an L.C.R. meeting. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Mon mowed the lawn in P.M.

Dandy nice day. Warm. Got cooler late in P.M. & it was cool at nite. Mon & Tommy did odd jobs & then went after Linda in P.M. Had a card from Dean's & so did the kiddies.

Rained off & on all day. Some times rather hard. We went & got Ruth about 12 & went too Decorah. She & Linda went too Mrs. Dauken's for violin practice. I went too the Dr. & had my finger dressed. Had a letter from Isa.

Quite a nice day but cool. Ruth came & got Linda & Tommy & took them too S.S. Mon took me too church & bro't all the kiddies back with him. Ruth bro't me home from church & took the boys home. We had dinner then went & got Dan & Bill & went too Decorah too a Circus. I went with the kiddies & Mon stayed in the car. Wasn't too much of a circus. Dean's came a little after 7. Linda & Tommy went home with them & we took their things down later. They got a nice lot of fish. We have our new Baldwin organ at the church.

Nice day. Mon was at Dean's for awhile in A.M. No ball game today on account of rain in New York. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Linda took a bad spill off her bicycle coming home from school. We went down too see her. Her mouth is badly swollen & scraped as is her left arm at the elbow but no bones broken.

Nice day but quite windy & rather chilly. Mon was at Dean's until ball game. Dodgers won 13 to 8. Dean's came up about 2 & he & Dean went too a Sale up by Canton. I washed my hair & Iona pinned it up.

Nice day but quite windy & cool. Ruth bro't Bill up about 9 & left him. She went too La Crosse with Marilyn, Joyce, Shirley R. & Shirley U. too take lessons on the electric organ. We watched the ball game N.Y. 5 D. 3. We went too Decorah after the game. I went too the Dr. & he took the wrappings off my thumb. It looks bum but doesn't feel so bad. We took Bill home on our way home & went on over too Dean's with some pictures we had gotten in Decorah for them. Mon got a hair cut in town. Had a letter from Isa. Dean's were here a little while about noon. I went too choir practice in eve.

Nice day. I went too church. We had communion. Dr. & Mrs. Dunn were there. Had a picnic dinner. Some were over from Ridgeway. We had quarterly conference for both churches in P.M. Had a swell dinner. Quite a few out. Howard & Fern were over in eve. Leonard Gunderson passed away very suddenly tonite. N.Y. won the ball game.

I washed clothes & then hung them upstairs. It cleared off about noon & I hung the clothes out doors. They got dry so I ironed in P.M. Mon went back to Arthur's in P.M. Walter McCauley was buried at the south Catholic church this morning. Little daughter born too Helen & Ronnie Ryan today.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon was at Arthur's all day. I was at Hilda's most of the day quilting. There were 5 of us there in A.M. & Anita served us such a good dinner. 2 more came in P.M. & we got a nice lot done. Had a letter from Isa.

Went up too the church basement in P.M. where some of us put on two quilts ready for tomorrow. I went up too the Lutheran church too their Turkey dinner about 530. Very good dinner. Nice day. Mon took the kiddies home about 8. Nelson's from Decorah came up & pulled up the pump, down home & fixed it. Mon got home about 2:30 & then we went too Decorah awhile.

Beautiful day. Dean's came after us about 11 & we went too Lansing. Arthur's & Mrs. K. went too. Had our dinner up on Mt. Hosmer & then after dinner went down too the river. Dean had his motor along & he hired a boat & took us all for rides. All but Mrs. K. she wouldn't go. The kiddies had a number of rides & had a glorious time. We went across the Lansing bridge, which was just reopened after many years, & went up on the Wis. side to La Crosse & home. Got home about 5:30. Had a very enjoyable day. We went down too Arthur's in eve. Martin J's were there too. Elwood bro't his violin & music & he & his mother played & then Ruth played with them. Good.

He also bro't Iona up town where she went on too the Plymouth church too get lunch ready for the wedding of Madeline Willson & Wilbur Wise at 2 P.M. Dean & Linda went too the wedding. We went too Decorah a little while after dinner. Dean bro't Linda back here about 4 & both kiddies stayed here & he went on home. They bro't Iona here about 7 & then Dean came after them when he finished chores.

Stopped awhile at Genev & Josie's on my way home.

Election Day. Dark & damp most of the day. The sun did come out some in P.M. Mon went too the hall about 7 A.M. He came home for dinner about 11:30. Olive & I went too vote about 4:30. John Rollins came home with Mon too supper. Inez came up in eve & stayed with me until Brayton came for her about 4:30. Mon took the return's too Decorah so he didn't get home til 5:30. Inez & I watched T.V. until after 1. It was so very interesting. Pres. Eisenhower won with a big majority. Heard the speech by Stevenson admitting defeat & Eisenhower's acceptance speech. Also speeches by Kefauver & Butler. Very interesting nite. Got cooler at nite.

Wed. Nov. 7
Not very nice day. Cooler & quite windy. Spit snow off & on all day & at times it snowed quite hard but not too much fell. Mon took me up too Nora Hageman's after dinner too a Baby Shower for Sheryl Kay Ryan (Helen's baby). Quite a few out & the baby got such nice gifts. Had such a nice lunch too. I rode home with Percy's. Dean & Tommy were here at noon a minute. Mon went down there in P.M. & helped ring pigs. Arthur had too be away today so no corn picking. Mon & I went over too Claude's for supper. Gloria Ann served us a swell roast turkey meal with all the trimmings. It was sure good. Cold nite.

Nice day. I went too church in A.M. We went for a ride with Claude's in P.M. Went north & west over too one of Vitie McCabe's places where they said they had 15000 bu. of corn piled on the ground. Sure a pile of corn. Drove around some more after that. Saw country Mon & I hadn't seen before. Howard & Fern were here & spent the eve. Shirley went too M.Y.F. She came here after it was over. Ronald Harvey (Warren's boy) was killed down by Wayne Headingtons early this morning. He must have gone too sleep at the wheel.

Not very nice day. Rainy & damp in A.M. but not cold. Started too snow about 2:30 P.M. & kept it up then until in the eve. Wind came up late in P.M. & it was quite a blizzard. Got much colder. Mon took me down too Joyce's in P.M. She had a birthday party for Josie. Quite a crowd out. Josie got lots of nice gifts & quite a lot of money. Had a swell lunch. I rode home with Florence. Mon didn't go too Lodge in eve. Too much of a blizzard. He didn't think any one would be out.

15º. Quite a nice day but cold. Did warm up some. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur's took Mrs. K. too La Crosse this morning. She took the train from there too Chicago & flew from there too Florida. Dance tonite but we didn't go. Cool nite but not as cold as last night.

25º. Wind in the south this morning. Warmed up during the day some. We went too Decorah in A.M. I went too the Modern Beauty Shop & had my hair cut, washed & set. We went too Dean's awhile in P.M. & stopped at Arthur's awhile on our way home.

Not too nice a day & not too bad. I went too church in A.M. Rev. Senecal was sick so Harlan Whitney had charge of the service. We went over too Howard R's in eve but they were in bed.

Mon. Nov. 19
Nice day. Mon went too Arthur's. They finished picking corn there today. Marion's were here awhile in P.M. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch afterward.

Tues. Nov. 20
Regular blizzard most of the day & nite. Snowed quite a little & the pavement got quite slippery in P.M. Not too cold. Mon took me up too the church after dinner. We put up our articles for our Sale tonite. I went back up too the church again about 7. Not too many were out too our Sale. Such a bad nite. But everything sold real good. Wennes & Halvorson were the auctioneers. Had a lunch after the sale. I rode home with Howard & Fern. Sure a blustery nite.

Wed. Nov. 21
Blizzardy day & colder. Sun shone at times too, but the snow was blowing most of the time as the wind blew hard all day & most of the nite. Dean's went too Mrs. Geo. Youngs funeral in P.M. & left Tommy here while they were gone. We went down too the home school in eve too their program. Not too many out, but they had a good program. Had a nice lunch afterward & had nice candy for sale. Had a letter from Olive & one from Isa.

Thurs. Nov. 22
12º. Nice day but cold. I went too church at 9:30 but not many out. We went too Arthur's as soon as church was over. Dean's, Marion's & Leonard's were there too. Had a picnic dinner. Ruth had a goose for dinner. Had a nice lunch before we came home.

Fri. Nov. 23
12º below. Nice day. Warmed up some during the day. Mon went out in P.M. He was at Dean's & Wayne H's.

Sat. Nov. 24
Not very nice day. Didn't do much. Little daughter born too Marvin & Ginny late this P.M.

Quite a blizzardy day again. Snow blew quite a lot. I went too church in A.M.

3º above. Quite a nice day but rather chilly. I washed in A.M. Mon was at Dean's & also at Wayne's in A.M. He bought 2 heifers of Wayne & had them hauled over too Dean's. He went with Howard R. in P.M. up north of Prosper too get Howard's tractor. Mon drove his car back for him.

Tues. Nov. 27
Dandy nice day. Warmed up & thawed quite a little. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. I ironed in A.M. Got a load of coal from Canton this A.M.

Wed. Nov. 28
Windy, blizzardy day. Pavement was quite slippery in A.M. Sun shone some in P.M. Didn't do much. Warmer in A.M. but got colder later in P.M. & was a chilly, windy time for a while. Wind went down in eve.

Thurs. Nov. 29
Zero. Not too bad a day & not too good. Wind blew quite hard & it was cloudy most of the day. Warmed up some. I went too Club at Violet's in P.M. Had Election of officers. Lillian Smith Pres. Joyce Baker V. Pres., Charlene H. Sec., Alice W., Asst. Sec. Maxine F. Treas. Not too many out. Had a good lunch. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Nov. 30
Not too nice a day & still not too bad. Thawed some. Mon went too Spring Grove in P.M. Dean's brought Linda & Tommy up in eve & left them all night. They went too a card party.

Sat. Dec. 1
Quite a nice day, but sun didn't shine much. Dean came & got the children about 9. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Had a letter from Isa & a card from Olive.

Sun. Dec. 2
Quite a nice day. Much warmer, but the sun didn't shine much. Thawed quite a little. I went too church in A.M. Went up too the Lutheran church in eve with Fern & Shirley (Howard stayed with Henry) too a program put on by the Canton High School. 45 voices singing & there were a number of musical numbers. It was very, very good. Had a lunch afterward.

Mon. Dec. 3
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. & Tommy came home too dinner with him. They went back after dinner & Mon & Dean sawed up some wood with the chain saw. Mon brought some home in the trunk. I went too Lodge in eve. Had a nice lunch. We practiced some after Lodge & then some of us played "Skunk". It was fun. Got home about 11. Claude's got back from Texas about 11 P.M.

Tues. Dec. 4
Quite a nice warm day. Sun shone some in A.M. but not in P.M. Claude had a heart attack about 4 A.M. & Dr. Wright came out & took him too the Hospital. Olive & Leonard went down about 8 & stayed til after dinner. Gloriaan & Janet came home with them & then they all went back in eve. Dorothea, Muriel, Margaret & Leta were here in P.M. & we compiled our lists of the Annual Dinner for leaving too the folks next year. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning in eve & it rained in the nite.

Wed. Dec. 5
Not very nice day. Cloudy & damp. Not cold in A.M. Quite foggy for awhile in A.M. Got colder later in P.M. Claude called Olive that he could come home about 8:30 so Mon took her down too get him. We went down too Dean's in P.M. Charles Wilhelm sawed wood for us. Had a lunch after they were through sawing. Got home about 5. Claude feels pretty good but he has too be rather quiet for awhile.

Thurs. Dec. 6
Rather a dark, gloomy day & somewhat chilly. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. & helped him grind feed. After dinner they brought a pick up load of wood up here. Tommy came along with his dad. Ida Halse came up & spent the eve with me. The men went too Lodge. They stayed awhile after the men came back from Lodge. Cool nite.

Fri. Dec. 7
Chilly, windy day. Sun shone some. I worked at the P.O. in P.M. Dorothy went too La Crosse. Cold nite.

Sat. Dec. 8
Chilly windy day again. Sun shone very little. Did clear off in eve & was a beautiful nite. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Mon got a hair cut. Cold nite.

Quite a bright day but cold. I went too church in A.M. Cold nite.

Nice day, but cool. I washed & ironed. Went up too the parsonage in eve too a board meeting.

Tues. Dec. 11
30º. Nice bright day but quite windy. Warmer until later in P.M. it got much colder. Arthur was here awhile in P.M. Howard, Fern & Shirley were here in eve. Cold nite. Wind went down in the nite.

Wed. Dec. 12
Rather cold day. Snowed until late in P.M. Cleared off then & was very nice. Wind didn't blow. Went up too the church in P.M. too our W.S.C.S. meeting. Had a Christmas program & a short business meeting in the church & then went too the basement where we had our Christmas gift exchange & a grand picnic lunch. Not too many out but a pretty good crowd for the weather. Cold nite.

Thurs. Dec. 13
20º below. Quite a nice day. Warmed up quite a little. Wind got around to the south & it was quite breezy. Went down too the P.O. in P.M. & then stopped a little while at [Miley?] & Valeda's. They have bought & moved into the Fred Scholey house. We went down too Arthur's in eve too celebrate Danny's birthday which is tomorrow. Dean's were there too. Also Kenny Henning. Had a good time & a nice lunch. We took Kenny home on our way home. Cora Brickner passed away tonite.

Fri. Dec. 14
12º above. Not too nice a day & not too bad. Warmed up & sun did shine some in P.M. Dean's brought Linda & Tommy up & left them all night. They went too a card party.

Sat. Dec. 15
Not too nice a day. Frosty but not too cool until late in P.M. it got much colder. Dean came up the kiddies about 9:15. We went down there in P.M. & Iona pinned up my hair. Art Haugen bro't a T.V. set down while we were there & put it up. It came in just fine.

Sun. Dec. 16
Rather a chilly day. I went too church in A.M. Made some Christmas candy in P.M. Got colder in the nite.

Mon. Dec. 17
10º above. Nice bright day but windy & cold. Dean was here for dinner. We went too Cora Brickner's funeral in P.M. at the M.E. church. Mon was a pall bearer. I went with the Rebekah's. They had the service at the grave. Went back too the church & had lunch. Shopped a little after the service. We went too Lodge in eve. We had our Christmas party with exchange of gifts & had an oyster supper. Got home at 11:30. Cold nite.

Tues. Dec. 18
10º below. Nice day. Warmed up during the day. Wind into the south. Quite breezy. I washed & ironed & made some candy.

Wed. Dec. 19
Very nice day. Much warmer. Got up too about 30. Mon hauled up a load of wood in A.M. I went back with him with the tractor after dinner & Iona gave me a permanent in P.M. Mon hauled up another load of wood in P.M.

Thurs. Dec. 20
Very foggy in A.M. Fog settled about noon but it was cloudy. Not cold. Made some candy. Mon went too Lodge in eve. I went down later too practice for Installation after Lodge.

Fri. Dec. 21
Very foggy all day. Not cold. Cleaned up the floors. Foggy at nite. Dean took a pig too Decorah this A.M. too have it butchered.

Sat. Dec. 22
Foggy most of the day. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Dean was here awhile just after dinner. We had a letter from Cecilia with some pictures we took when we were out there.

Sun. Dec. 23
Not too nice a day. Snowed some in A.M. Not cold until late in P.M. it got colder & froze some. Wind came up in P.M. I went too church in A.M. Howard R. took Shirley too church in eve & came up & stayed with Mon. I went too church with Arthur's. Christmas program & it was good.

Mon. Dec. 24
Not too nice a day & yet not too bad. Cleaned up the house & baked bread. Dean's were here a few minutes just after dinner. They had been too Decorah & bro't our lard up.

Tues. Dec. 25
Very nice day & quite warm. Arthur's & Dean's were here for dinner. We had goose. The girls bro't dinner too. We had our gift exchange after dinner. I got a nice lunch cloth from Iona. The kiddies had a lot of fun with their gifts. Howard R's were over in eve. Mon gave me an electric fry pan.

Wed. Dec. 26
Nice day. Quite warm. I washed in A.M. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Mert R. was here awhile late in P.M.

Thurs. Dec. 27
Dandy nice warm day. I ironed in A.M. Went too Club at Miriams in P.M. with Florence. Large crowd out. New officers took over. Lillian Pres. Joyce B. V. Pres. Charlene Sec. Alice Asst. Sec. & Maxine Treas. Had our gift exchange. I got Salt & pepper shakers from Inez. Had a swell lunch. Ruth bro't Bill up late in P.M. & he stayed all nite. Mon went too Lodge. Fern & Shirley were here & spent the eve.

Fri. Dec. 28
Quite a nice day. I tried out lard in A.M. Arthur's came after Bill just after dinner. They were on their way too Decorah.

Sat. Dec. 29
Not too nice a day. Snowed quite hard for awhile in A.M. & snowed some again in P.M. We went too Decorah for awhile in A.M. I went over too Olive's in eve. She, Iona & Dorothea audited the Rebekah Books.

Sun. Dec. 30
Quite a nice day. I went too church in A.M. Danny came up here after S.S. & stayed over night.

Quite a nice day. We took Danny home after dinner & stayed awhile & then went over too Dean's awhile. Got much colder late in P.M. Cold nite.
