Fri. Jan. 1
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. The thermometer went up above the 40 mark. Nearly to 50. Arthur's, Dean's & Claude, Olive & Leonard were here today. We went too the dance in eve. Big crowd out & a good time. Little Vince played.
Gas tank went dry.

Sat. Jan. 2
Quite a nice day, although it was rather dark at times. Not too cold. Didn't do too much. Albert E. was here awhile in P.M. selling baby chicks. Had gone too bed & to sleep when Gladys A. came after me too go down to Leon Marlows where the auditing comm. were auditing the Rebekah books.

Sun. Jan. 3
Quite a nice day. Quite warm. I went too church in A.M. Dean, Linda & Tommy were here a few minutes just after I got home. I went over too Claude's a few minutes in P.M.

Mon. Jan. 4
Quite a nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. Janice [Sivisind?] was here in P.M. too see Uncle Aaron. I went to Lodge in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Jan. 5
Dandy nice day. We went too Decorah in A.M. awhile. Went down to the Welfare office & too see if we could find a place down town for Uncle Aaron. Mon went too Decorah in eve too Lodge. B.O. members were Installed in Decorah tonite.

Wed. Jan. 6
Nice day, but the wind was a little chilly. We took Uncle Aaron too Decorah in P.M. thinking we had found a place for him too stay but it didn't pan out so he came back with us. Spent most of the P.M. at the Welfare Office. Janice's mother is very sick so she was at Mason City & we talked with Mrs. Holmes.

Thurs. Jan. 7
Nice day again, only chilly. We took Uncle Aaron to Decorah again this P.M. & got a place for him too stay this time. Mrs. [Bleknberg?]. Went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge. He got very sick at Lodge & Raymond Halse bro't him home. They stopped at the store for me. Guess he had stomach flu. He felt some better before he went too bed.

Fri. Jan. 8
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & got some eggs. Stopped at Arthur's a little while on our way back. Mon feels pretty good today. Wind got around into the north in the nite & got much colder.

Sat. Jan. 9
Zero this morn. Nice bright day but sure chilly. Quite a strong wind. We went too Decorah about 11. Got my hair fixed. Had some running around too do. We took Uncle Aaron back too his room before we came home. He was up town. Didn't go down town in eve.

Sun. Jan. 10
10º below this morn. Nice day. Warmed up during the day. I went too church in A.M. “Happy" L. & Sam C. were here a few minutes in P.M. Aunt Alice was down awhile later in P.M. We went too Mabel in eve to the Show "Ride Vaquero". Didn't like it too well. Wind got around into the north in the nite & it got colder.

Mon. Jan. 11
10º below this morn. Very windy cold day. Didn't warm up hardly at all, all day. Didn't do much of anything. Went up too Arnold's in eve too a meeting with Paul & Miriam. Mon was at Arthur's almost all day helping Arthur sort hogs too sell.

Tues. Jan. 12
20º below. Beautiful day. Wind didn't blow, but it was cold. Warmed up some during the day.

Wed. Jan. 13
10º below. Not too nice a day. Sun shone some. Snow fell off & on all day. Not much though until late in P.M. it snowed enough too make the ground white. I washed in A.M. Dean & Tommy came just after dinner & stayed awhile. I went to W.S.C.S. at Florence's in P.M. with Miriam. Not too many out. Had a good meeting & a nice lunch. Mon went down too the hall in eve to a stag supper at the hall. I ironed in eve.

Thurs. Jan. 14
Dandy nice day. Not too cold. Mon bro't some of the meat, dressing & potatoes home from the supper last night & I called & had Dean, Iona & Tommy come up for dinner. We went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge.

Fri. Jan. 15
Rather a dark day & it wasn't cold until late in P.M. the wind got around into the north & blew quite hard all nite & it got much colder. Rained some in P.M. & froze as it fell on the pavement but when it got colder it froze dry. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Mon got a hair cut. We went to the dance in eve. Good crowd out & a good time. Little Vince played. Joe M's & us got supper. Howard & Hazel Gullickson's baby died about noon at Rochester.

10º below. Cold windy day. Didn't get up above zero all day. Didn't do much.

Sun. Jan. 17
25º below this morn. Nice bright day & did warm up some but still a cold day. I went too church in A.M. Went to the Hall in P.M. too a "Shower" for Madonna Cassel Dinger. Quite a few out. She got lots of nice gifts & quite a little money. They had such a nice lunch. I helped prepare lunch. Howard & Hazel G's baby was buried this P.M. Gladys A. was here a few minutes in eve.

Mon. Jan. 18
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. Warmer. Dean, Iona & Tommy were here a few minutes in P.M. Dean sold 20 pigs. They weighed 4525 @ $25.10 per cwt. & bro't $1135.77. We went too Lodge in eve. Decorah came up & Installed our officers. Gladys A. N.G., Dorothea R. V.G. Elanore D. Sec. & myself Treas. Had a good crowd out & a very good lunch. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Jan. 19
Not too nice a day & not too cold either. Damp & chilly. It misted some in P.M. & then again in eve & at that time it made the paving some what slippery. Snowed some in the nite & the wind got into the north & got stronger & colder. We went too Cresco in P.M. & I got a new coat & hat. Both blue. Cost $39.95 & hat $2.50. Mon went down town awhile in eve. There was a whist tournament. He didn't stay very long. Had another letter from Isa saying that they had just had a letter from Loyals that their youngest boy has leukemia.

Wed. Jan. 20
Cold blizzardy day. Didn't snow very much but what snow did fall last night blew around quite bit. Wind did blow quite hard all day. Didn't do much. Minnie Gates died at the Decorah Hospital late this P.M.

Thurs. Jan. 21
30º below. Nice bright day. Warmed up a little during the day. Mon helped Arthur sort hogs in A.M. too sell. I went up too the church about 10:30 with Howard & Fern too the monthly dinner. Fern, Inez, Florence, Margaret W., & Joyce entertained. Very good dinner, but not too big a crowd. Took in around $59.

Fri. Jan. 22
Fri. Quite a nice day. Some warmer. I washed & ironed. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up here after dinner & left them until about 5. Dean's was hauling coal for Howard W. & Iona went up too La Vern's too help her paint. We had a lot of fun.

Sat. Jan. 23
Dandy nice day. Much warmer. Thawed some today. We went too Decorah about 9:30. Got my hair fixed. We had a lunch down town. Went right up too the church as soon as I got home. Min Gates was buried this P.M. & we served lunch for the folks afterward. Quite a few there for lunch. We went down town awhile in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Sun. Jan. 24
Mon's 59th Birthday. Not too nice in A.M. rather cloudy & cool but it did clear off in P.M. I went too church in A.M. Mon was outside when I got out of church & we went too Dean's too Mon's Birthday dinner. Arthur's were there too. We sure had a good dinner, good time & a good lunch before we came home.

Mon. Jan. 25
Not a very nice day. Started too mist in A.M. & kept it up all day. Rained in P.M. & froze ice on the paving but it was rough so not so slippery. Mon got the nose bleed before breakfast & it bled off & on all A.M. & after dinner I called Arthur & he took us down too the Clinic. Dr. Dalquist worked with Mon & got the bleeding stopped some & packed his nose & taped it up & we started for home but by the time we got back up too Monson's it was bleeding again so we went right back too the clinic & it really did bleed terribly then. We sent Arthur home about 4:30 & we were there at the Clinic with Dr. Svendsons working too stop the bleeding until 5:30 & then we went too the Hospital. Stayed there. Mon had quite a nite of it. Neither of us got much sleep. The nurses were really good to care for him.

Tues. Jan. 26
Everything covered with ice this morning. Started too snow about noon & it really did come down. No wind & not cold. Mon had quite a time from the blood clots coming down into his throat. Dr. Svendson packed his nose again about 1:30. Dean's came down shortly afterward. I came home with them. Got home about 4:30. Olive came over just after I got home. She had kept the fires going here. Arthur Morrison is in the room next too Mon. He has been having pneumonia. Caroline stopped in real often too see about Mon. Snowed all nite I guess.

Wed. Jan. 27
Dandy nice day. Plenty of snow. About 10 inches on the level. I got up & shoveled paths around the yard before I had breakfast. Arthur, Ruth & Bill came for me about 10:30 & we went too Decorah. Left Bill at Krumms & then they took me right to the Hospital. Arthur came up to the room a minute & then they went back up town. They came back about 2 & Dr. S. came about that time too, to repack Mon's nose. This time from the back & front both. Pretty tough job. Made Arthur & Ruth sick so they left. Louie K was here in P.M. Arthur, Dean, Joe & Iona, & Fred & Hazel Grant were here in eve. Arthur & Caroline were in & out today. I stayed down. Mon didn't put in a very good nite. Mon got a couple of cards.

Thurs. Jan. 28
Not too nice a day but not cold. Dean came down in P.M. & he took me up too Frank Millers for the Income Papers & then too the bank & back too the Hospital. Fred W. & Louie K. were here in P.M. Arthur & Caroline were in & out & then they went home in P.M. Mon got quite a lot of mail. Rev. & Mrs. Arnold were in too see us in eve.

Fri. Jan. 29
Dandy nice day. Thawed some. Dr. took the packing out of Mon's nose & throat in P.M. & it didn't bleed at all but he had too be mighty quiet the rest of the P.M. & nite. Louie K. & Arthur were here awhile in P.M.

Sat. Jan. 30
Dandy nice day but rather cool. Arthur was down too see us about 11:30 & then he & Ruth came down again about 2. Nurse Moen came in about 1 & said that Dr. S. had called that we could come home. (Dr. is sick) so we came home with Arthur's. Had too stop up town & get some medicine & over at Krumm's for the boys. Olive had it nice & warm here when we got home. She was in Decorah but came over here as soon as she got home. I had too go down town after some groceries & the mail. Its good too get home. Mon feels good only plenty weak.

10º below. Dandy nice day. Warmed up & thawed some. I didn't go too church. Danny walked up here after S.S. & Ruth & Bill came after him after church. Albert & Florence stopped a few minutes after church too. Rev. Arnold's were here in P.M. Howard R. stopped a minute late in P.M. Claude was here in A.M.

Mon. Feb. 1
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Thawed a lot. Arthur was here awhile in A.M. & then he came back about 2 P.M. & took us too the Dr. Dr. said Mon was coming O.K. but must be very quiet for 3 or 4 weeks yet. Dean's came just as we got home & were here until about 5. Ole & Gladys were here after we got home too. Mable K. & Nellie N. came up after dinner but we had too leave so they rode down town with us. I went too Lodge in eve. We had a nice lunch afterward.

Tues. Feb. 2
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. Olive was here awhile late in P.M. It rained & snowed in eve & the wind blew hard.

Wed. Feb. 3
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Dean was here awhile in P.M. Joe & Iona were here in eve. Mon doesn't get his strength back very fast.

Thurs. Feb. 4
Dandy nice day again. Olive was over awhile in A.M. Howard Bradley was here awhile in P.M. Ruth bro't Bill up & left him here while she went too Bazaar Boosters. Aunt Alice was here late in P.M. Claude was here in eve.

Fri. Feb. 5
Rather a dark day. Sun did shine a little. Didn't thaw very much. Dean was here a few minutes just before dinner & then he, Iona & Tommy came about 12:30 & I went too Decorah with them. Got my hair fixed. We got home about 3:30. Ed Arnold was here awhile in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & the boys were up in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Sat. Feb. 6
Quite a nice day but somewhat cooler. Francis & Ruth came about 5 P.M. & were here for supper & until after 9. Gladys A. & John B. came just as we were through supper & stayed awhile. Dean, Iona, Linda & Tommy were here for awhile to in eve. Olive & Claude went too Marie's today with Marion's. Rather a cold nite.

Sun. Feb. 7
Nice day. Warmer. I went too church in A.M. Walt, Wilma, Alice & Susie [?.] were here & spent the P.M. Howard & Fern here & spent the eve. Olive & Claude came home tonite. Had quite a noisy time here about 5:30 this A.M. A car was down here by the house, trying too get out of the yard. They sure had a heck of a time. Got out about 6.

Mon. Feb. 8
My 62nd Birthday. Dandy nice day. Warmest day on record for this time of year. I washed & ironed. Arthur's bro't Bill up about 9 & left him & they took Danny too La Crosse too see the Dr. He hasn't been feeling very well. They got back here about 1. Olive, Dean, Iona & Tommy were here in P.M. I got such a pretty head scarf from Dean's & a set of bowls from Arthur's. Got a nice lot of Birthday Cards.

Tues. Feb. 9
Dandy nice day. Very warm again. Olive & Claude were over in eve. Lizzie was here awhile in P.M.

Wed. Feb. 10
Nice day. Quite warm until late in P.M. the wind got around to the north & got colder. Lizzie & Fern came here after dinner & Rosella Houdek came & took us to W.S.C.S. at Muriel T's. quite a few out. Had a nice lunch. Howard was here waiting for Fern when we got back. Colder tonite & the wind blew quite hard.

Zero this morn. Nice bright day but cold & windy. Dean & Tommy were here a few minutes in A.M. Dean sold some more pigs in P.M. & he & Tommy were here an hour or so. Brayton W. was here awhile late in P.M. I went over to [Miley?] Wilbur's in eve with Arnold's too a meeting. Cold nite.

Fri. Feb. 12
About 10º below this morn. Sun shone in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Wind in the south today & it was chilly. Claude came over & got Mon after dinner & took him down town & Lloyd D. bro't him home. Dance tonite.

Sat. Feb. 13
Dandy nice warm day. I went too Decorah with Dean's in P.M. Mon walked down town & back. Arthur's were up in eve.

Sun. Feb. 14
Dandy nice warm day. I went too church in A.M. Danny walked up here after S.S. & Ruth bro't me home & he went home with her. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up here when they went too church & left them. Their Wedding Anniversary & they went on too Decorah for dinner. They came after the kiddies about 3. Warmest Feb. 14th on record. Just the nicest kind of a warm spring day. Warm nite.

Rather a dark day. Sun did shine a very little. Got colder in P.M. Brayton W. & Ole A. were here most of the P.M. They had a B.O. Township trustee meeting. Mon walked down town after they left.

Tues. Feb. 16
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. I washed in A.M. Worked in the P.O. in P.M. Snowed in eve. Mon walked down town in A.M. & P.M. Cool nite.

Wed. Feb. 17
Rather a cloudy day. Looked like rain but didn't. Not cold. I went up too Ruby R's in P.M. too a "Stanley Party". Big crowd out. Had a good time & a good lunch. Mon was down town in A.M. & P.M. He feels much better now.

Thurs. Feb. 18
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon took me up too the church about 9:30. We had an oyster dinner, as our monthly dinner. Miriam, Elsie & I cooked the oysters. Had 2 gal. but not enough. Had too send down town & get another qt. & then some of us didn't get any. Had a good dinner everyone said. Took in about $75. Mon drove down too Dean's after he took me up too the church. He walked down town in P.M. He went too Lodge in eve & I went over too Olive's. Ida H. & Gladys A. were there & we practiced the Unwritten Work of the Rebekah Lodge.

Fri. Feb. 19
Quite a nice day. I worked at the P.O. today. Clouded up late in P.M. & rained in eve & nite.

Sat. Feb. 20
Rather a dark damp day. I was at the P.O. again. Isa & Lester came about 2 & Isa stayed at the P.O. with me until I came home. It rained hard in eve.

Sun. Feb. 21
Quite a nice day. We were at Claude's for dinner. Mon & I came home in P.M. but Lester's stayed until about 8. Mon & I went down too Dean's late in P.M. after some eggs. Cool nite

Mon. Feb. 22
Not too bad a day. Lester & Isa went home about 10:15. Arthur's took Danny too La Crosse early this morning & he had his tonsils & adenoids removed about 11:30. Arthur came home about 3:30 & Ruth & Danny stayed up there. Arthur said Danny got through his operation O.K. Snowed & rained some in eve & nite.

Tues. Feb. 23
Not too nice a day & not too bad. I worked at the P.O. today. Arthur went too La Crosse early this A.M. & bro't Ruth & Danny home about noon. We went down too see him in eve. He was running around & having a good time. Eating too. Little daughter born too Chas. & Frances Schnitzler today.

Wed. Feb. 24
Nice spring day. Sun shone some & it was rather windy. I worked at the P.O. today. They butchered a hog & a beef at Dean's today.

Thurs. Feb. 25
Quite a nice day. Mon went down too Dean's in A.M. & got some liver, heart & tongue. He went too Decorah in P.M. awhile. I worked at the P.O. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Little son born too Howard & Delores Quandahl this morning.

Fri. Feb. 26
Dark chilly day. Sun didn't shine at all but the wind sure blew from the south. Mon went too Decorah in A.M. & got a hair cut. I was at the P.O. We went too the dance in eve. Stayed until supper time. Large crowd. Dewey G's played.

Not too nice a day & not too bad. I was at the P.O.

Sun. Feb. 28
Quite a nice day. I went too church in A.M. Raymond Halse was here for dinner. We went down too Arthur's awhile in P.M. Went on over too Dean's but no one home.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed & tried out 15 qts. of lard. We went too Lodge in eve. Quite a few out & had a dandy good lunch. We rode home with Howard's. Had a letter from Isa. Snowed some in the nite.

Tues. Mar. 2
Nice day. We went too Decorah about 9. Got my hair fixed & Mon went too the Dr. for a check up. Said he was coming along O.K. They had a surprise party & dance at the Hall in eve for Mon & [Lynnford? Hovden?] Dewey's played & there was a big crowd. Had a nice picnic lunch.

Wed. Mar. 3
Zero this morn. Cold windy day. Wind blew hard all day & most of the nite. Didn't warm up very much all day.

Thurs. Mar. 4
Quite a nice day but chilly. Warmer than it had been though. Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went up too Howard R's too prayer meeting with Rev A's. Not very many out. Mon went down too Arthur's awhile after dinner too help him ring some sows. Ruth bro't Bill up here & left him while she went too Bazaar Boosters. Danny came home with Mon.

Fri. Mar. 5
Quite a nice day. I scrubbed the floors & waxed them today. We went down too Dean's about 3:30. Picked up Linda on our way. We stayed down there for supper. I went too Decorah in eve with Claude's too Lodge. Our lodge took Audrey Lovlien & Mable Hovden down there & Decorah initiated them. They had one candidate. 18 went down from B.O. The work was grand & we had a swell lunch. Some from Cresco were there too. Jennie Ward passed away this noon.

Nice day, but quite windy. Warmer. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Went to a Birthday party for Iva Sheley at Mable K's in P.M. Just Rebekahs. She got some nice gifts & we had such a good picnic lunch. We went down town a while in eve.

Sun. Mar. 7
Nice day. Went to church in A.M. Rev. Butler from Cresco was the minister & he was good. Claude's & Raymond Halse's were here in eve & we girls wrote out invitations to a farewell dance for Lloyd D's for next Fri. night. They went home about 12.

Mon. Mar. 8
Dandy nice day. Rather windy in P.M. I washed & ironed. Ruth bro't the boys up here about 1:30 & left them with Mon & she & I went too Jennie Wards funeral at the M.E. church. She & Shirley E. sang. Large crowd out. Muriel, Phyllis, Joyce & Gloria W. were here in eve & we practiced a "skit" too have at our next W.S.C.S. meeting.

Tues. Mar. 9
Dandy nice day. Quite warm in P.M. Quite windy too. The Bible Study met here in P.M. Only 9 out.

Wed. Mar. 10
Cloudy dark day but not cold. Started too snow about 4:30 & kept it up until in eve. Didn't snow hard, just came down easily. Covered the ground nicely. I went too W.S.C.S. at Pearl Darlings with Ruth. Quite a few out. Had a good lunch. Went too church in eve with Florence & Albert. There is too be 3 nights of meetings Rev. Watt a young minister from Cedar Iowa is the speaker. Not too many out. Rev. Watt is a good speaker.

Nice day. Quite warm. Dean's brot Tommy up in P.M. & left him while they went too Locust too an Aide meeting. Mon went & got Linda when school was out. Mon went too Lodge in eve. I went too church. Some of the Calmar people were up. We had a lunch of coffee & cookies afterward. I rode home with Howards. It snowed some in eve.

Fri. Mar. 12
Regular blizzard at times during the day. All kinds of weather. Hail, thunder & lightning along with the snow. So much dirt in the snow. Wind blew hard but it wasn't very cold. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Got a couple of doz. cups for the I.O.O.F. Had a farewell dinner for Lloyd Dingers in eve. Quite a blizzard just after supper but it let up later. Good sized crowd out in spite of the weather. Had a good time & a good picnic supper. Dewey's played. Ruby Rehwinkel had an operation at La Crosse today.

Another blizzardy day although the sun did shine some. Got colder at night. Arthur's were up & spent the eve.

10º this morn. Not too bad a day only windy. Sun shone most of the day. Thawed some. I went too church in A.M. Danny walked up here after S.S. so Ruth bro't me home & got him. Some people were here from Hesper in eve & Mon went down too the hall with them. They wanted the hall for a play next Fri. nite.

Nice day. Thawed quite a little. I washed & ironed. Went too Lodge in eve. Quite a few out. Had a nice lunch. We women fixed some of the I.O.O.F. regalia & the men played cards.

Tues. Mar. 16
Nice day. Thawed a lot. We went down too Dean's early in A.M. after some eggs. Dean took some pigs too market later in A.M. & he & Tommy were here awhile. I went over too Hilda's in P.M. too Bible Study. 13 there. Had a good lunch. A couple of ladies from Hesper were here early in eve & then Mon & I went up too Gladys too see about the Rebekah's serving lunch after the Hesper play. Did quite a lot of telephoning & then we stopped at Nellie N's., Dorothea's, Mables & Hovdens on our way home. Stayed at Dorothea's awhile & watched T.V.

Wed. Mar. 17
Nice day. Quite warm & it thawed a lot. Lloyd Dinger had a Sale at the garage in P.M. & sold all his tools etc. I went down town a while in P.M. Gladys was here awhile in eve.

Thurs. Mar. 18
Rather cloudy at times & the sun shone most of the time too. Quite a wind & warm. Thawed quite a little & the wind dried too. Ruth came up & got me about 10 & I went up too the church & helped with the monthly dinner. Ruth, Charlene, Iona, Anita & Luella served. Had a very good dinner & a good crowd. Took in $62.75. Ruth bro't me home about 2:30. Mon didn't go too Lodge in eve. He seemed too have caught quite a cold so he didn't feel like going. It rained quite hard in eve & the wind blew quite hard at times.

Fri. Mar. 19
A damp cloudy day. Not too cold until eve when it did get colder. Rained & snowed some in eve. Olive came over just after dinner & helped me fix sandwich filling. Mon & I went down too the hall later in P.M. & put up the wings. He took Olive & I down to the hall about 6:30 & a bunch of the Rebekahs were there & we got our lunch ready. The Hesper Improvement Club put on a home talent play "Coming Round the Mountain". It was sure funny. The hall was full. We Rebekahs served a lunch afterward. Cleared $11.46. Mon had such a cold he didn't go. Olive & I rode home with Howard's. Got home about 11:30. Had a letter from Isa.

Sat. Mar. 20
Very nice day. We went too Decorah about 9:30. Got my hair fixed about 11:30 so we were down town then later than we planned. Deans were down in P.M. & Iona, Linda & Tommy went with Mon & I for a lunch, then Iona the kiddies & I went looking for furniture. Looked at Olson's then too Buckton's. Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Went up too see Aunt Alice awhile later in P.M. We went too Mabel in eve to the Show "Tumble Weed". It was pretty good for a western shooting play. Snowed in the nite.

Snowed quite a little early in A.M. & then quit snowing but it was damp & dark all day. Warm enough so that most of the snow melted in P.M. Dean's were up awhile after school in P.M. I went up too Aunt Alice's awhile about 5. She got sick in eve & Florence came up & took her home with her. Mon went down town in eve.

Tues. Mar. 23
Beautiful day. I washed & ironed & washed some windows. Mon went too Rochester about 8 A.M. too a trial. Mr. Fossum of Spring Grove against the Marigold of Winona in the accident at B.O. in June 1952. He got home about 2. They brought our new furniture about 9:30 A.M. Ruby R. got home from the Hospital this P.M. Mon went down town in eve. Had a note from Isa that Loyal's little boy Willie had passed away from Lukemia.

Snowed quite hard early in A.M. but it didn't stay long. Rained off & on all day. I went too Bible Study at Miriam's in P.M. with Florence. Only 10 out. Rained hard in eve & most of the nite I guess.

Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & the wind blew quite hard. I went to the Big Canoe Lutheran Church in P.M. with Iona to their Ladies Aide. Edna Gjere was one of the hostesses. Dean & Tommy went up too Lloyd's. They have a beautiful church. Had a swell lunch after the meeting. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Colder tonite.

Cold this morning, but warmed up during the day. I went too Club in P.M. with Vivian B. Club was at Bernell Snell's. Quite a few out & quite a few visitors. Had such a good lunch. We went to the dance in eve. Rode down & back with Howard's. Big crowd out too a "Hard Time Dance". The Mowhak's played. Good music. Helped Fern get supper.

Sat. Mar. 27
Snowed quite a little early this A.M. but cleared off later & was quite a nice day. Snow all left. We went too Decorah about 11. Lizzie went down with us. We got home about 3.

Regular March day. Snowed so hard for a while in A.M. Regular blizzard & the wind blew quite hard all day. Sun shone quite a bit of the time too. Arthur's, Dean's & Claude's were here for dinner. Had a picnic dinner & a good one. Celebrating Ruth, Arthur & Leonard's birthdays only Leonard wasn't here. He has gone up too Jordan Minn. to work.

Not too nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day. Didn't do too much. Had a letter from Isa.

Dandy nice day although it did snow off & on during the A.M. but it was just snow skiffs & then the sun would shine. I washed in A.M. Went down too Elsie's in P.M. with Hilda R. to the final Bible Study meeting. Only 9 out. Had a nice lunch. I ironed after I got home. Went up too Zoa's in eve too choir practice with Ruth. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. Got his hair cut.

Nice day. I went with Brayton's down to Ray Snell's about 9:15 A.M. A bunch of ladies met & we tied 3 quilts, quilted a baby quilt & quilted a satin quilt. 13 from B.O. & 5 from Bluffton way. Had picnic dinner & surely a good one. Then had a good lunch before we came home. Got home about 5:30. Mon has quite a cold. Some of the I.O.O.F. & Rebekahs met at the hall today & helped Raymond & Luella with painting, papering & cleaning up stairs. They got a new oil burner for the up stairs today.

Not very nice day. Rather dark & damp. Ruth left Bill here in P.M. while she went too Bazaar Boosters at Letha Rongley's. Gladys A. was here awhile in eve. Mon went too Lodge. They finished working at the hall today. The I.O.O.F. fired Gertie tonite & hired Nellie Nelson.

Not too bad a day. Sun shone a good bit of the day but it was chilly. I went over to Olive's in A.M. & helped her wash the hall curtains. We went too Decorah in P.M. Got my hair fixed & Mon went too the Dr. for a check up. They said his blood pressure was high today so he had to get some medicine for that.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Had quite an electrical storm in eve. Started about 6:30 & it sure rained thunder & lightning & some hail. Kept it up off & on during the eve & nite. Tornadoes in the southern part of Iowa. Olive & I went down too the hall in P.M. Mabel & Nellie N. were there & we put up the curtains. Went too Lodge in eve. We had invited Decorah & Canton. 23 from D. & 3 from C. The storm kept some at home. Had a program after Lodge. Decorah put on a skit & Canton was supposed to have something, but they didn't get here. Had a good supper. Mon went down home & got a big load of wood in A.M. & again in P.M.

Beautiful day. Thermometer went up too about 80 in P.M. for awhile. Was outside quite a little. Dean's were here a few minutes in P.M. Rained again in the nite with quite a lot of lightning & thunder.

Wed. Apr. 7
Not too nice a day. Cloudy most of the day & it rained some in A.M. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up here about 9 & left them. They, Si's & Lelia went too Green too see the Grandma. We sure had lots of fun. Tommy talks so much & says such funny things. They came after the kiddies about 7:30 or 8. I went too choir practice at Zoa's with Ruth before they came. It got much colder late in P.M. & the wind blew very hard in eve.

About 20º this morn. Nice day. Cool in A.M. but warmed up but the wind was chilly all day. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Rather a dark day. Chilly wind. We went too Decorah about 9:30. I got a permanent. We went to the dance in eve. Good crowd out. Little Vince played. Had quite an electrical storm at supper time but it didn't rain nearly as hard here as it did down home. They had quite a wind storm & quite a little hail.

Nice day. Quite warm until late in P.M. the wind got around into the north & it got some cooler. We went up to the cemetry a little after 2. [Lew?] Bronner was buried here this P.M. Quite a few out to the cemetry. I went up too the church in eve too a shower for Mr. & Mrs. Harold Smith (Opal Underbakke). Very large crowd out. Had a nice program & then they opened their gifts & they got lots of nice ones. Had a nice lunch too. Isa & Lester came too Claudes about 6:30 & Isa came over a few minutes.

Dandy nice warm day. We cleaned up the front yard in A.M. & I worked at the back yard in P.M. Mon went down & helped Arthur get his machinery around so that he could get into the field, in P.M. Dean, Linda & Tommy came up with a truck load of wood after school. Lester & Isa went home about 7:30 A.M.

Tues. Apr. 13
Warm. Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a very nice day. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. & Linda came home with him. Dean bro't up a load of boards & kindling with the tractor & wagon later. I worked at the flowers some today.

Beautiful day. Plenty warm. Warmest April 14 on record. Mon went down home in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. I got a new hat & a new pair of slippers (Blue) Saw many people working in the fields. Some were seeding. Went too choir practice at the church in eve with Ruth. Mon went down town. It rained in the nite. Dean started working in the field today.

Rained early in A.M. & then cleared off & was very nice & warm until about noon. It clouded up then & we had quite an electrical storm & it rained all P.M. At times quite hard. Wind got around into the north & it blew hard & got much colder. I went too W.S.C.S. at Myrtle Snells in P.M. with Inez. Not too big a crowd out. We had a nice lunch. Went too church in eve with Howard's. Candle light communion service. Quite a few out. It cleared off in eve but was still windy & cold. Mon went too Lodge.

Nice bright day but windy & chilly. I did some baking today for our sale tomorrow. We went down too Dean's in P.M. & Linda & I went down (Howard's) in the woods & picked flowers. Found quite a lot. Had a good time. No school today as it was Good Friday.

Nice bright day but the wind was chilly. Wind blew very hard in P.M. & there was a lot of dust in the air. Mon went too Arthur's early in A.M. too help him with his field work. I went too Decorah about 9 with Miriam. The W.S.C.S. had a food sale at the Montgomery Ward Store. Had a lot of nice food & it sold good. Took in $61 down there & there was other food sold that was not bro't down there. Run around town awhile after the sale & got home about 4. We went down too Dean's a few minutes after supper & then stopped down town awhile on our way home.

Nice day but the wind was chilly most of the day. Mon was at Arthur's all day. I worked at the P.O. in P.M. Linda came down with chicken pox today. We had quite a storm in the night. Plenty of thunder & lightning & lots of rain. 2¼ inches by our rain guage.

Not very nice day. Rather dark & chilly. Didn't do much. Aunt Alice is at her home for a few days & I went up to see her awhile in P.M. It cleared off late in P.M. We went down too Arthur's after supper. Went over too Dean's & got some hose for Arthur too use for watering his calves. He went too see the Dr. this P.M. & the Dr. told him he had a touch of rheumatic fever & too keep off his feet. Danny & Linda are both broke out pretty much with their chicken pox.

Dean's Birthday. (34). Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & it sure did pour down for awhile in P.M. We went too Decorah about 10 A.M. & I got my hair fixed. We had a lunch down town & got home about 2:30. We went down town a little while in eve.

Not very nice day again. Rained very hard about 9:30 & again while we were eating dinner. Cloudy all day. Arthur's, Dean's & Stanley & Lelia were here for dinner & most of the P.M. Had dinner for Dean's birthday. Had a good visit & the kids sure had a good time.

Rather a dark dreary day & the wind was cool. Didn't do much. Dean's were up a few minutes after school & then they bro't Linda & Tommy up in eve & left them while they went to the Rustad – Faldet Shower Dance at Matters. They came after them about 1:15. We had lots of fun with the kiddies.

Not very nice day again. Dark & cool. We went down too Arthur's awhile in P.M. & then on over home too the field where Dean was trying too disc but it was too wet so he had too quit. Rained very hard in the nite. Lot of rain fell.

Rather rainy early in A.M. but let up later. Dark day again. Got up early this morning. I went down too Jordan H's with Howard & Fern about 7 A.M. & Fern & I with Florence went with Charlene & Loren too Olewein. Florence & I stopped there & Fern, Charlene & Loren went on too Independence to spend the day with Edna. Florence & I attended a N.E. Iowa Methodist Conference. Large crowd out. We had dinner at the Lutheran church. Our meeting was out before Charlene & Fern got back to Olewein so Florence & I did a little window shopping. We got home about 6. Mon went to Lodge in eve.

About 32º this morn. Frost on the grass. Another bright, windy chilly day. Mon was at Dean's all day. They finished seeding. Olive & I went too the Lutheran Aid meeting at the church in P.M. Ruby R. & Gloria Pierce entertained. Good lunch. They had a plant sale & I bought a Russian Lily.

About 30º. Frost this morn. Not too bad in A.M. rained some but it sure did everything in P.M. Snowed, rained, & wind blew hard all day. Sun did shine at times in P.M. Another March day. Mon was at Arthur's all day seeding. They are starting their new porch down there. Dance tonite but we didn't go.

Sat. May 8
Frost again this morning. Rather nice in A.M. but it clouded up before noon & it rained & snowed & the wind blew hard again. Mon was at Arthur's until about 3:30. Finished seeding. The Joan of Arc had a program & lunch for the Mothers of the Community at the M.E. church in P.M. Between 35 & 40 mothers there. Had a nice program & a nice lunch. White cake, sandwiches, coffee & ice cream & potato salad. We fixed corsages of white & red daisies & greenery. They were pretty. It was raining & snowing time too come home so Inez bro't Olive & I home. We went down too Dean's late in P.M. after some eggs. Went too Mabel in eve too the Show "Fort Osage" Did some trading in Mabel after the show.

Not too many out. Had nomination of officers. I was put back in as Pres. Elsie S. V. Pres. Violet U. Sec. & no one too take the treasurers job. Had a good lunch. They got Marlyn K. too be Treas.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon was at Arthur's awhile in A.M. but was home for dinner. They put the cattle out too pasture. He went back down there in P.M. & Dean came over there & they hauled out manure. Ruth & Danny went to Decorah in P.M. & Bill stayed with me. Joyce & Shelia Meer were here awhile in P.M. too. We went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge. Had a letter from Isa.

Dandy nice day. Warm. I washed up the floors & did other things. Mon was at Arthur's hauling manure. He came home about 4 P.M. Had punctured a tire on Arthur's manure spreader so we went too Decorah too get it fixed. We took it down too Arthur's after supper.

I washed early in A.M. & then we went too Caledonia about 9:30 after the baby chickens. 300 straight run. $81.32. We got the little chickens out & watered before dinner & then had dinner at Dean's. Mon plowed for Dean awhile after dinner. We went on over too Albert's & got our seed corn on the way home. Got home about 4. The stewards & past[oral?] comm. met here in eve. Cool nite.

Nice bright day but chilly. Mon was at Arthur's in A.M. dragging & at Dean's in P.M. helping him get started planting corn. Joyce & Shelia Meer were here a few minutes after supper. Cool nite.

32º this morn & a white frost. Nice day. Warmed up some. Mon took me up too the church early in A.M. Took plants up there. I went back up again about 10:30 too the W.S.C.S. dinner. Phyllis W., Alice W., Dorothea R., Elsie S. & Myrtle S. served. Had a very good dinner. We had a plant sale too. Took in over $15 from that. I went too Harmony in P.M. with Inez too May Fair. Large crowd out. Went up too the church in eve. Dr. Dunn. District Supt. was there. Not many out. Got home about 11. Mon went too Lodge.

Nice day. Warm. I went too church in A.M. We went too Postville in P.M. too see Ruth & Francis. He is sure not very well. Stayed there for supper. Left for home about 7:30. It rained all the way from Ossian home & at times quite hard. Didn't rain much here. Olive called as soon as we got home that Uncle Aaron was sick & they had taken him too the Hospital. They had tried & tried too call us but we were gone.

Nice day. Mon was at Dean's all day dragging so that Dean could plant corn. I went too Decorah with Claude about 8 A.M. Went too the Hospital too see Uncle Aaron. He isn't too good. Dr. came while I was there & he said it was his heart & dropsy. His hands & feet are swollen quite badly. He has a hard cough too. We got home about 12. I went up too Gladys A's in eve. Some of us met there too practice for the Convention at Rossville. I went with Dorothea R. afterward while she took Babe F. home.

Tues. May 25
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Arthur's & Dean's but was home for dinner. He went & got the tractor about 5 & plowed the garden & got it ready too plant. Johnnie Carolan was here in eve.

Wed. May 26
Rather dark early in A.M. but we got some strawberry plants set out & I planted some little stuff while Mon went down too Harry Q's & got some potatoes too plant. We got them & the sweet corn in & then it rained so we had too quit. Rained the rest of the day & nite. Not too hard but a steady rain. It was cool too.

Thurs. May 27
Rained almost all day. Did brighten up for awhile late in P.M. but it rained hard in the nite with quite a lot of thunder & lightning. We went too Decorah in P.M. Went down too see Uncle Aaron. Not much difference in him. Got my hair fixed. Mon went too Lodge in eve. I stayed home.

Fri. May 28
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & wasn't so nice. I left home a little after 11 A.M. with Dorothea R. for Rossville. Gladys A., Mable K., Audry L. Babe F. went too. We had dinner at Waukon & then on too Rossville. It started too rain as we were leaving Waukon & it sure did pour down for quite a while. Did clear off late in P.M. & was nice the rest of P.M. & eve. Got cooler in eve. Had our Rebekah Convention there. Good crowd & a good program both in P.M. & eve. Had a good dinner at the church at 6 P.M. & then a lunch before we came home. Got home about 12.

Nice day. Lester & Isadore came about 8 A.M. We went too Decorah & spent most of the P.M. The men went down town in eve but Isa & I didn't.

Nice day but quite windy. Lester & Isa went too church in A.M. They, Claudes & Leonard & Dean's, also Marion & Gloria Ann were here for dinner. Arthur's had company so couldn't come. We all went fishing later in P.M. Dean's, Lester's & us went down on Joe Wilhelms. Got 48 fish. Had lots of fun with Linda & Tommy. We went up too the cemetry early in A.M. with our flowers.

Not very nice day. Started too rain about 4 P.M. & it sure rained hard until about 6. Let up some then but started up again & kept it up most of the nite I guess. I washed & ironed. We finished putting in our garden.

Quite a nice day, but the wind was chilly even if the sun was nice & warm. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up here about 8 A.M. & they & Wallace & May went on fishing up at Dresbach. We sure had a big time with the kiddies. The folks got back about 5:30. Elsie & Violet were here in eve & we chose the secretaries of the different divisions of the W.S.C.S. & other committees. Marlyn Q. was supposed too come but she didn't. Merle & Louie came about 9 & were here until we finished. Had a lunch.

Nice day. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Went by Dean's & stopped there a few minutes. Mon got a hair cut. We got home about 12:30. Mon mowed the lawn in P.M. & I set out some plants. Howard Bradley was here awhile in P.M. He stopped too tell us that he & his wife have a new baby boy. Dr., Norma & Ada were down too their place in P.M. & I went up awhile. Had a letter from Isa.

Nice day. Quite windy. I went too church in A.M. We went for a short ride in P.M. Saw the end of a trail ride down by Mart Leonhart's place. We went down to Archie Ward's in eve.

Went too Lodge in eve. Inez W. came home with me & stayed until the men came about 12. Mons Jacobson passed away this morning.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm & windy. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Dean's awhile in A.M. & too Prosper in P.M.

Wed. June 9
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Worked in the garden all A.M. Went too W.S.C.S. at Inez's in P.M. with Rosella. Large crowd out. New officers took over today. Had a nice lunch. We went up too Walt Barth's in eve & went too Mabel with them too practice for their diamond jubilee which is too be Fri., Sat., & Sun. Some from B.O. are too square dance & Mon will call.

Thurs. June 10
Rained very hard here about 5 A.M. with a lot of thunder & lightning. More than 1½ inches of rain fell. Was a nice day & quite warm. I went too Mons Jacobson's funeral in P.M. at the Lutheran church. Not many out. Stopped at Aunt Mary's awhile on my way home. Violet U., Hilda R., Hazel H., & Pearl D. were here in eve & we planned our dinner for next Thurs. (W.S.C.S.). Mon went too Lodge. Walter Nelson run into Joe Moran's car with his motor cycle about 9 P.M. coming over the hill at Harold Seelye's & got his leg broken in 2 places & his knee crushed.

Fri. June 11
Nice day & very warm. Richard D. came over early in A.M. & told about Uncle Aaron being worse & that they might take him too Independence. Mon & I went down too Albert E's & then down too Babe's. I went too Decorah with her in P.M. too see what we could find out about Uncle Aaron. Didn't find out much only that they wouldn't take him right now any way. Very hot down town. We went down too Dean's & Arthur's in eve. Wind blew very hard in the nite & it rained a little.

Sat. June 12
Dandy nice day & very warm. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Aunt Eunice & Earl were here a few minutes just after we got home. A lady from the Relief Office came just after dinner too give a message for Aunt Eunice so we went down too Freeport & caught her there. She was there to see Uncle Aaron again. We went too Mabel in eve too their Diamond Jubilee. Very large crowd there. They had a paegant on the school ground & the B.O. people danced a square dance during this paegant. Joe, Iona, Raymond, Luella, Walt, Wilma, Vlad & Mary danced & Mon called. The paegant was very good. We all went up town afterward & went too the dance at the bowery. Dewey played. Large crowd on the bowery. We got home about 12. Got Uncle Aaron's clothes from Mr[s.?] [Blecknburg's?] today.

Sun. June 13
Dandy nice day & plenty warm again. No church today as Arnold's are at Conference. Didn't do much but set around. Dr., Norma & Ada were down in P.M. & I went up there awhile. Rained hard again in the nite.

Mon. June 14
Dandy nice day again & warm. I washed & ironed. Worked in the garden in eve & Mon worked there in P.M. too as well as eve. Geo. Ellickson was here in P.M. too see about sending Uncle Aaron to Independence for treatment. Dean, Iona & Tommy were here awhile in eve. Linda is at Si's.

Tues. June 15
Quite a nice day & warm until about supper time it clouded up & looked pretty stormy. Rained some in eve & nite & the wind blew hard. We went down too Arthur's in P.M. & Bill came home with us. Ruth came up & got him just after supper when it looked so stormy.

Wed. June 16
Looked quite stormy at times in A.M. & was cooler, but it was very nice in P.M. & much warmer. Mon was down at Dean's awhile in A.M.

Thurs. June 17
Dandy nice day & very warm. Mon took me up too the church about 9:30 & then he went on too Dean's. He plowed corn there all day. Hilda R., Violet U., Hazel D., Pearl D. & I entertained W.S.C.S. today. We had beef & gravy, mashed potatoes, baked beans, buttered corn, rolls, pickles, pie & coffee. Had a good crowd even though it was a busy time. Took in $67.75. We went down too Arthur's awhile in eve too see some pictures they had taken. It rained in the nite.

Fri. June 18
Rained off & on most of the A.M. but was quite nice in P.M. Warm. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. & worked at the elevator. We mowed lawn after he got home. It thundered most of the nite & rained.

Sat. June 19
Rained most of the A.M. & at times quite hard. We went too Decorah about 12:45. Olive went with us. Got my hair fixed. It cleared off some in P.M. & was warm. We went down town awhile in eve. Bad storm in the nite. Rained very hard & some hail with wind & plenty of thunder & lightning. Water all over the flat & up into the yard.

Sun. June 20
Not very nice early in A.M. Looked pretty stormy & rained, but it cleared off & was quite nice & warm until eve again. Rained hard again in the nite. I went too church. Dean's were here for dinner & Arthur's were up in P.M. The kids had lots of fun out in front in the ditch. Plenty of water. Plenty in our cellar too. Ruth came up & got me in eve & I went too the church with her. The Bible School children put on their program. They had a party for Arnold's afterward in the basement. Had a nice lunch. I rode home with Howard's. It was raining when we came home.

Mon. June 21
Rained off & on all day. Rained very hard in P.M. a couple of times. Over 1.2 in. of rain fell in a little while & the creek came up again but not as high as Sat. nite. Didn't do much. Went too Lodge in eve. Had supper & those having birthdays the first 6 months each gave a penny for each year they were old. Cleared off in eve.

Tues. June 22
Dandy nice day. Washed & ironed. Mon went down too Dean's & got the electric pump & pumped out the cellar. We washed the car in P.M. Dean was here a minute in P.M.

Wed. June 23
Dandy nice day. I washed Uncle Aaron's dirty clothes today. Pulled weeds & worked in the garden. Babe was here awhile in P.M. We mowed lawn later in P.M. & after supper. Went down too Dean's awhile. Si's & Lloyd's came while we were there.

Thurs. June 24
Nice day. Very hot. We worked in the garden all A.M. & I finished mowing the lawn. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. too rake hay. Went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge. I planted some radish seed & cukes today. Warm nite. What was left of Archie Ward's barn burned this A.M. They had torn down part of it getting ready too build a new one. They saved all the rest of the buildings. Damaged the silo some.

Fri. June 25
Very hot day again although there was quite a breeze. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. Stopped at Archie's a few minutes too see the wreck from the fire. Mon worked at Arthur's in P.M. I went too Club at Violet's in P.M. with Miriam. Quite a few out & a swell lunch. Peter Wennes was here in eve insuring this place. Warm nite. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning in the nite & a little rain.

Sat. June 26
Nice day. Plenty warm. Worked in the garden some. We went down too Dean's after supper for some eggs. Stopped down town awhile on our way home.

Nice day. Not quite so warm. I went too church in A.M. We went for a ride in P.M. & up too Spring Valley & back through Chester & Cresco.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. too help hay. Katie Morrison was here awhile in P.M. I went up too the parsonage in eve too a meeting. Mr. Wennes came in eve & he & Mon went down home too get the dimensions of the buildings so as too insure them. They were still working at it when I got home. Had quite a storm in the nite. Rained hard for a while.

Tues. June 29
Rained in A.M. but cleared off later in the day. Had quite a storm again between 6 & 7 P.M. but it cleared off in the evening. Arthur & Mon went too Harmony in P.M.

Wed. June 30
Nice day. Warm. We went too Decorah awhile in A.M. I washed all the windows down stairs today. Rained some in the nite.

Thurs. July 1
Nice day. I washed the curtains in A.M. Mon was down home in A.M. Ruth left the boys here in P.M. while she went too Bazaar Boosters. We went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge & we audited the Rebekah's books. Babe was here a few minutes in A.M. & she said Uncle Aaron was at the Decorah Hospital & evidently had been all the time instead of being taken to Independence. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. July 2
Not too nice a day. Looked rainy & did rain too. I cleaned floors. Very warm in A.M. but got much cooler in P.M. Rained in eve. We went down too Dean's & Arthur's in P.M. The sun shone some then & Arthur was just starting too bale hay when we got there so Mon helped him awhile. Dean built an out door fire place today.

Sat. July 3
Looked rainy in A.M. & did rain some too. Cooler. We went too Decorah about 9. Mon got his hair cut & I got mine fixed. Went down too the Hospital a minute too see Uncle Aaron. We went down town in eve. The new Phillips 66 station started up today, with Leonard & Dickie Blaess running it.

Sun. July 4
Looked rainy in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice but very warm. Dan & Bill came up here after S.S. & went too Dean's with us. Had a picnic dinner there. I took wieners & Iona had some so we used the new fire place. Arthur & Ruth came after church. Had a good dinner. Dan & Bill came home with us & stayed all nite. Vin, Eunice & the boys, Aunt Eunice & Lizzie were here awhile. The boys had a big time.

Mon. July 5
Dandy nice day. Warm. I washed & ironed & patched. Worked in the garden some. Mon was at Arthur's. Ruth came up early in A.M. & got the boys. Mon mowed part of the lawn after he got home. I went too Lodge in eve. Only 11 out. Joe Moran's & Walt Barth's treated us to ice cream, cake & cookies after Lodge.

Tues. July 6
Cool early in A.M. but it sure warmed up. Very warm in P.M. Clouded up late in P.M. & looked like a very bad storm about 6 but it only sprinkled here. The wind blew very hard. They must have gotten storms around us. I went too work at the Post Office today. Alice is taking a vacation. Mon worked at Arthur's in A.M. & was over home in P.M. The carpenters came in P.M. too start the granary.

Wed. July 7
Nice day but it was cooler. Mon was at the boys all day. I worked at the P.O. Worked in the garden in eve.

Thurs. July 8
Sprinkled some in A.M. but wasn't bad in P.M. Cooler today too. Mon was down home today. They put in the cement work for the granary & worked at the hay. I was at the P.O. Looked like a bad storm at supper time but it passed us by. Got quite a hard shower but it cleared off after that. I went with Dean's too Mabel to the Show in eve. "The Glen Miller Story". It was sure good. We stopped at Si's on our way over so went too the last Show. Mon went too Lodge.

Fri. July 9
Not too bad a day until late in P.M. it rained. Was damp in A.M. some. Mon was at Arthur's & Dean's. I was at the P.O. Warren, Katherine & the boys came up here & no one at home so they went down too Dean's & were there for awhile & they came up when Mon did. They were around the P.O. until I came home. Had supper here & then went back too Decorah where they were staying at a motel. We went down too Dean's & got some eggs after they were gone. No one home & stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way home. It was raining then.

Sat. July 10
Not too nice a day. Damp most of the day. Didn't rain but it did dry up much either. Sun didn't shine much. Mon was down home. I was at the P.O. He helped the carpenter start the granary in A.M. & they baled some hay in P.M. Warren's came up in P.M. but didn't stay long at the P.O. & then went down too Dean's awhile. The boys like the farm & the haying. They went back too Decorah from there. We went down too Arthur's in eve & dressed 4 young roosters. Had a letter from Isa.

Sun. July 11
Dandy nice day. Very warm. Dan & Bill came up after S.S. & then the folks came later also Dean's & Warren's. We had a picnic here. Good dinner & good time. Albert & Florence came awhile in P.M. & were here for lunch. All the folks but Warren's left about 5. Katherine & I did up the dishes & then we went up too Niagra Cave & went thro' that. It is something too see. Got back here a little after 8 & Warren's went right on too Decorah.

Mon. July 12
Dandy nice day. Plenty hot but there was a nice breeze all day. Mon was at the boys, mostly Dean's. I was at the P.O. Alice went too Cresco in P.M. for a few days. Worked in the garden some in eve.

Tues. July 13
Not too nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice hot day. Mon was at Arthur's hauling in hay bales. I washed early in A.M. Was at the P.O. Warren's were up a minute in P.M. They went on down too Dean's & Arthur's. Are leaving tomorrow. Mon went down town a few minutes in eve. Warm nite.

Wed. July 14
Dandy nice day. Quite a little cooler. I was at the P.O. Mon was at Arthur's helping the carpenters & working at the hay. We mowed the lawn & I worked in the garden awhile in eve.
Gas tank went dry.

Thurs. July 15
Dandy nice day. Mon was at Arthur's hauling in bales. I was at the P.O. Went too the W.S.C.S. dinner. Audry G. Gladys A., Rosella H., Muriel T. & Valeda W. Very good dinner & a very large crowd. We had a short meeting afterward. I got back to the P.O. about 2. Gladys, Olive & I went too Cresco to Lodge in eve. Raymond & Ida were there too. Large crowd out. "Love night Rally". They had a good program & a good lunch afterward. Got home about 12. Mon didn't go too Lodge.

Rather cloudy in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Warm. Mon was at Dean's hauling in bales. I was at the P.O. Mon went down town a few minutes in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Sat. July 17
Rained a little early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice warm day. Mon was at Arthur's. They tried too combine but the grain wasn't ready so they hauled in bales. I was at the P.O. My last day. We went down too Dean's after supper for some eggs & we got a couple of young roosters. We dressed them after we got home. One weighed 1½ lbs. & the other 2 after they were picked.

Sun. July 18
Nice day. I went too church in A.M. Paul, Marie & the kiddies came too Claude's just after dinner. Marjorie & Gary were here a little while in P.M. & then I went over there for awhile.

Mon. July 19
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm in P.M. & eve. I washed & ironed & did other jobs. Mon was at Dean's. Went too Lodge in eve. We had invited a number of Lodges up for the eve but 14 came from Rossville & 10 from Decorah. Rossville bro't the traveling emblem & it was very nice. We had a good lunch afterward. Very warm in the hall. Mon didn't go. Got home about 11.

Tues. July 20
Nice early in A.M. but clouded up before dinner & rained. Not hard but just a nice rain. Off & on all P.M. Mon was at Arthur's until after dinner. I went too Decorah with Gladys about 8:30 too a W.S.C.S. Officers training & Seminar at the M.E. Church. Mrs. Arnold & Mary Wanless went too. Quite a few out. We had dinner at the Congretional gym. Very good dinner. Got home about 4.

Nice day. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Got my hair fixed. Had dinner down town. Got a crate of peaches. Mon went down too Arthur's after dinner too work but didn't stay too long. Dean was helping Arthur windrow his grain. We went down too Dean's about 4 & I went up in the woods too see about berries but only got a few.

Thurs. July 22
Nice day. Mon was at the boys. They hauled in hay bales at Dean's in A.M. & were at Arthur's combining in P.M. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Fred Scholey received a 50 year pin at Lodge tonite. Ida H. & Nellie M. were here in eve. We planned the Traveling Emblem too take too Decorah Lodge. Had a call from Warren this eve. We are too meet Jon at La Crosse Mon. noon. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. July 23
Dark day. Cooler. Rained off & on in A.M. Not hard. Damp in P.M. too but it didn't rain. Cleared off in eve. Didn't do too much. Mon went too Prosper in A.M. & paid for the stuff for the granary.

Sat. July 24
Dandy nice day. Mon was at Arthur's combining & he came home about 10:30 too mow lawn but I had it just about done. He stayed home for dinner then. I went too Decorah in P.M. with Claude's in P.M. We went down too see Uncle Aaron as we came home. He has failed so much since I saw him last. He can't get up now nor can he feed himself. We got home about 4 & I went up too the M.E. church about 4:30. The Joan of Arc had an ice cream social for the benefit of the cemetry. Had a pretty good crowd but not too big. Had a good lunch. Ice cream, cake, pickles, Maidrite sandwiches & coffee.

Sun. July 25
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon went too Arthur's about 7:30 too help combine. I went too church & then went home with Ruth & the boys. Mon & I came home about 6. He had a bath & little lunch & then we went too Mabel too the Show. "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". It was too hot. Warren called while we were at Arthur's that Jon was sick so he couldn't come out here now. Paul, Marie & the kiddies came back to Claudes about 6:30 from their northern vacation.

Mon. July 26
Nice day. Plenty hot. Mon was at Arthur's combining. I washed & ironed. Ruth brought the boys up about 5 & left them for the nite. She went too a meeting at Fayette. Mon got home about 6:30. Paul's went home about 2:30 P.M.

Tues. July 27
Nice in A.M. but clouded up late in P.M. Not so hot. Mon was at Arthur's combining. They finished there about 4 & went too Dean's & got one load combined. Gas tank went dry about 11:30 & left me without any gas. Called a couple of times but they didn't get here until 2:45. Gladys came up after me too go too Elsie's but I couldn't go until the man came with the gas. I rode down with him when he came. We made out the Date Books for the W.S.C.S. There were 9 of us so it didn't take very long. Elsie served us such a nice lunch. Rained in the nite. Got 2 tanks of gas.

Wed. July 28
Rained early in A.M. & was cloudy until in P.M. it cleared off. Not so warm. Dean came up about 9 & was here awhile. Mon went down there then & helped him get some cattle in too sell & then Mon went over & helped Arthur get some cattle in too sell. He was there for dinner. He mowed some weeds after he got home. We went down too Dean's a little while in eve. Si's came while we were there.

Thurs. July 29
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon was at Dean's combining today. Olive & I went up too see Iva Sheley in P.M. & then on over too Lydia's. We went down too Nellie Marlow's in eve too get ready for going too Decorah with the traveling emblem. Mon didn't go too Lodge. Warren called tonite that Jon was coming Sat. Had a letter from Aunt Eunice.

Fri. July 30
Nice day. Somewhat cooler in A.M. but warmed up plenty in P.M. Clouded up late in P.M. & looked like a very bad storm. It did rain very hard for a while. About an inch & a half. Got cooler then. Mon was at Dean's combining. Olive & I went too Club at Miriam's with Phyllis. Rode home with Charlene. Got home just before the storm struck & Mon came awhile later.

Sat. July 31
Rather cloudy & damp for awhile in A.M. but it cleared off before dinner. Arthur bro't Ruth & the boys up about 8 & they went too La Crosse with us. We shopped around until about 12 & then we went too the Burlington depot & met Jon. Had dinner when we got back up town & then came on home. Arthur came just after we got here & Jon went home with them. Mon & I went too Decorah then. I got a new dress in La Crosse & one in Decorah.

Sun. Aug. 1
Nice day. Arthur brought Jon up here when he brought Ruth & the boys too S.S. & then Jon & I went too church. Mon met us there when church was out & we went too Arthur's for dinner. The men went over too Dean's about 3:30 too finish the combining but they broke the combine again so they didn't do much. We had supper at Arthur's. Came home & changed our clothes & went too Mabel too the Show. "The Long Long Trailer". It was sure funny. Lucile Ball & Desi Arnaz. Arthur's were over too.

Mon. Aug. 2
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs around here in A.M. & then went down home in P.M. They finished combining. He got home about 4. We mowed the lawn after he got home. Went too Lodge in eve. Practiced after Lodge.

Tues. Aug. 3
Nice day. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up here early in A.M. & left them for the day. They went fishing. We went for a short ride in P.M. & then Mon changed the oil in the car when we got back. We had lots of fun. Dean's came just as we were eating supper. They got a nice bunch of fish. Gave us a couple of nice bull heads. We went down too Arthur's awhile in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Wed. Aug. 4
Nice at times & it sprinkled some too at times. Cooler. Mon started painting the garage today. I painted some in P.M.

Thurs. Aug. 5
Nice day but cool. Mon painted at the garage & I painted all day too. Painting the south door in the kitchen, screen doors, window & posts of the porch. Ruth went too Bazaar Boosters at Gloria Whitney's & bro't Bill up here & left him while she was gone. We went down town in eve. Mon went too Lodge but not enough out too have Lodge. We practiced at the hall for tomorrow nite.

Fri. Aug. 6
Nice day. We painted in A.M. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. too help haul in bales. I painted some in P.M. Went too Decorah in eve with Gladys too Lodge. We took the Traveling Emblem down there. 13 from B.O. Harmony 5, Canton 5 & Cresco 11 so there was quite a crowd out. Had such a nice lunch & then played bingo afterward. Got home about 11:30.

Sat. Aug. 7
Nice day. Mon went down too Arthur's for awhile in A.M. helping haul in bales. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Got my hair fixed as soon as we got down there but Mon had too wait until 1:30 too get his hair cut. Arthur's & Dean's were all down town. We went down too see Uncle Aaron but he was asleep so didn't get too talk with him. He is failing all the time. Went in too see Chauncey a minute. He is not so well. We went down too Dean's awhile after supper after some eggs. Got a couple of young chickens. Rained some in eve & nite.

Sun. Aug. 8
Rained some in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. We dressed the young chickens early this A.M. I went too church. We went too Harmony in P.M. Mon paid off the carpenters. We went too the Hospital & saw Floyd Blaess. He got his leg broken & crushed while he was working near Mason City a couple of months ago & is in a cast & will be that way for some time yet. Rained hard about supper time & the wind blew hard. Arthur's & Alberts were here in eve. Arthur's bro't their movies up. Jon stayed here then.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. We went down too Dean's in P.M. & I went up in the woods looking for black berries. Didn't find very many. Si's came while we were there. Jon stayed down there & Dean & Linda bro't him home in eve.

Tues. Aug. 10
Nice day. Dean's bro't Linda & Tommy up about 7:30 left them & took Jon fishing with them too New Albin. We had fun. They got back about 6:30. Took Tommy home but Linda stayed all nite. They got a nice mess of fish & left us 5. We went down too Arthur's in eve a few minutes.

Wed. Aug. 11
Dandy nice day. Dean came up in A.M. early & Jon & Linda went with him. Mon & I went too Decorah. Got my hair fixed again & Mon got the car washed & greased. He took me too Elsie's in P.M. too W.S.C.S. Good crowd out & we sure had a good lunch. I rode home with Mrs. Lloyd K. Mon went down & got Jon. We went too Albert's for supper. Shirley is home for 2 weeks & her boy friend was there too. Had a good supper & a good time. Got home about 10:30.

Dandy nice day. We got up about 5 & got started from home at 5:45 for Chicago taking Jon home. We had breakfast in Dubuque & a lunch about 1 at another town. Got out here about 2 our time 3 theirs. Warren came about 5:30. We had a good dinner & visited before & after. They showed some of their movies in eve.

Fri. Aug. 13
Dandy nice day. We didn't get up until after Warren had gone too work. Had our breakfast & then we went for a ride down into Chicago & along the Lake Shore Drive. Came back & had a lunch & then went out north too the Lake again. Came back & changed clothes & took a bus down town. Left here at 4:20 & it took us an hour too get down town. Met Warren at the Bismark Hotel & had a swell dinner there & went too Cinarama. It was wonderful. We came home then with Warren & his car. Got home about 10 after a drive around town again too see the sights lit up. Visited awhile after we got home. Rained in the nite.

Sat. Aug. 14
Rather a dark day most of the time. The sun did shine a little but it rained off & on all day. Not hard though. Stanley & Katherine came in P.M. The men had planned on going too the ball game but it was so rainy looking they didn't go. Watched it on T.V. Had planned on a dinner outside but it was too rainy so had it inside instead. The 2 Kays & I walked over too the High School Stadium in eve & listened to a band concert & contest awhile. Came home & had movies that Warren & Stan took. Nice in eve.

Sun. Aug. 15
Nice day only plenty warm & muggy. Ruth Ellen came awhile in A.M. too see all of us. Had dinner about 3. They listened to 2 ball games. Stanley & Katherine left right after dinner. We did up the dishes & then went for a ride. Went down on the Lake & walked around awhile & then back up north & west of Warren's. Had a nice ride. Watched T.V. awhile after we got back.

Mon. Aug. 16
Very warm day. Left Warren's about 5:30 (our time.) Warren & Katherine went ahead of us until they got us started on the right road for home. Had a terrible rain storm. Thunder, lightning & wind too. A lot of water fell. We got out of the storm area in the middle of the A.M. Stopped at a place & had breakfast. Got too Isa's & Lester's about 12. Had dinner. Lloyd, Eleanor & Donna came over for awhile & then Mon & I went out too see Aunt Eunice. We went back & got Isa & drove out & found a motel too stay at. Stopped too see Cecil & Agnes on our way back too Isa's. Had supper with Isa & came out too the motel about 9. Had a shower & went too bed. Very nice place. Rained in the nite.

Tues. Aug. 17
Sprinkled & rained gently most of A.M. Went back to Isa's for breakfast. Did up the dishes & then Lester drove & we all went down town awhile. Got some things for Linda & Tommy & then he drove out past Vin's house so we got too see that. Eunice is in the Hospital. Came back too Lester's & Isa & Mon got out & Lester took me too Ella May's for a few minutes. We left for home about 1. It rained most of the way too Cedar Rapids & some times very hard. Stopped there & got some melons. Got home about 6. Went down too Dean's a few minutes after supper. Cows had been in our garden & just about ruined the corn & cabbage.

Wed. Aug. 18
Nice day. Got quite warm in P.M. Didn't do too much. Dean's were up in P.M. & Iona picked the cukes & then we ate watermelon. Louie K. called in eve that something had happened to the water works at Arthur's. He & Mrs. K. are staying out there most of the time. We went down there but Mon couldn't fix it so I called Raymond Holt & he came right over & got it fixed in a short time.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. We went down too Arthur's about 11 & I gathered eggs & washed them for the egg man. Louie's had gone to the Fair. Ida Halse was here awhile in P.M. We went down town in eve. Mon went to Lodge.

Fri. Aug. 20
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. We went too Spring Grove early in A.M. too see Dewey Golberg about playing for a dance next week. Mowed the lawn when we got back. Had a card from Arthur's today.

Sat. Aug. 21
Nice day. We went down too Arthur's at noon & gathered the eggs. Mr. & Mrs. K. were at the Fair. Mon had a card from Arthur's.

Sun. Aug. 22
Warm day. Rained in A.M. early. Looked rainy during the day but the sun shone some too. Quite an electrical storm in eve. Rained quite hard. I went too church in A.M. & then we went down to Arthur's too gather eggs but Krumms were there so didn't have to. Dean's were here awhile in P.M. & then they went to Decorah to the Fair. Tommy stayed all nite with us. Olive went too the Hospital this morning. Gall bladder attack.

Mon. Aug. 23
Dandy nice day & very warm. We took Tommy home about 3:30 & stopped at Arthur's a minute. Went too Decorah in P.M. I went too see Olive & Uncle Aaron. Olive doesn't feel very well. Uncle Aaron isn't very good but was up in a wheel chair. We stopped at Babe's on our way home. Their new barn is getting pretty well done. Mon went down town awhile in eve. Wind blew very hard in the nite & it rained a little.

Tues. Aug. 24
Dark & damp in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day & plenty hot. Mrs. K. called about 11:15 that Arthur's had just gotten home. We went down there awhile in P.M. They had, had such a nice time & a swell trip. Bill was so thrilled over what he saw. The mountains & the big airplanes at Denver. I went up too Arnold's in eve too a meeting. Fixing out the reports of the W.S.C.S. for the 1st quarter. Had a letter from Isa.

Wed. Aug. 25
Had a very sever electrical storm very early in the morning. Over an inch of rain fell. Rained off & on all A.M. Hard at times. Cleared off in P.M. & was very nice & very warm. We went too Decorah in P.M. Went too the Hospital too see Olive. She is feeling better but so weak. Saw Uncle Aaron but not too speak to him. Mon got a new pair of work shoes & rubbers.

Dark damp day. Rained some. Didn't do too much. Made some pickles. Mon mowed the lawn in P.M. He went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Aug. 27
Rather a dark dreary day. We went too Decorah in P.M. Mon, Walt B. & Raymond H. had too see Charlie Wilbur & have him sign papers too get into the I.O.O.F. Home at Mason City. Got my hair fixed. Went down too see Olive a few minutes. She had X rays taken today. Went to the dance at the hall in eve. Not many out. Dewey G. played. Dead crowd. We came home at supper time.

Sat. Aug. 28
Rather cloudy in A.M. but cleared off about noon. We went too Cresco to the Fair. Got out there about 1. Walked around & looked at things until it was time too go up in the grand stand for the performance. Rodeo. Pretty good. Had supper & run around some more & then back up in the grand stand for the evening performance. It was much better than the P.M. Very large crowd. They gave away a Chevrolet car after the program. La Vern Greenslade's got it. Very warm out there in P.M. & eve too. We got home about 12:30. Olive came home this P.M.

Nice day. Not so hot. Isa & Lester came about 9:30. I went over too see Olive about 8. She doesn't feel too good. Lesters went over too Claude's for awhile & then came back here for dinner. They went home about 2. We went down too Arthur's in eve too see some of their pictures they took on their trip. They were good. Cool nite.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. Pulled weeds in the garden in P.M. & gathered the cukes & picked up ground cherries. Was over too see Olive in A.M. She feels better today. Mon painted in P.M.

Nice day. Rather cool. We went too Decorah a few minutes early in A.M. Got a crate of pears. $1.89. Mon painted here in A.M. & went down home & painted in P.M. Elsie, Marlyn, Pearl & Inez were here in eve & we planned our Annual W.S.C.S. dinner.

Wed. Sept. 1
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon took Elsie & I down to Geo. Knoke's early in A.M. too see about getting turkeys for our W.S.C.S. dinner. Spoke for 16. He went on down too Dean's too paint after we got home. I went over to Olive's in P.M. & washed & waxed her floors. She feels better but no strength yet. Mowed part of the lawn after I got home from there. Gladys A. came after school & then Dean's & Mon came. We went down there after supper & got some eggs & a couple of young chickens. They are going up too Si's tonite & then they are going too the Minnesota State Fair from there. Linda & Tommy will stay at Wallace's tonite.

Thurs. Sept. 2
Dandy nice day. Quite warm in P.M. We went down & got Linda & Tommy at Wallace's after school. Stopped at the field where Arthur was baling & he was out of twine so we went over too Dean's & got a ball. Did a few chores while we were there. Went up too Prosper & got some groceries when we came home. Mon didn't go too Lodge in eve. We had lots of fun with the kids. We dressed the chickens this morn.

Fri. Sept. 3
Nice day but cool. Mon took Linda & Tommy early in A.M. Left Linda at school & took Tommy on home. He didn't do much all day. Laid around with a cold. He took me down to Margaret W's in P.M. too Club. Not too many out. Had a swell lunch. I rode home with Florence. Big barn dance at Archie Ward's new barn tonite but Mon didn't feel like going. Marion, Virginia & Gail came too Claude's this eve. Rained quite hard for awhile in eve.

Nice day. Mon felt pretty bum. He laid around most of the day. Dean was down here awhile early in A.M. Lester & Isa came just as we were finishing supper. Lester went over too Claude's after supper. Isa & I did up the dishes & then we went over there awhile & then on down town a minute.

Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. We went fishing down on Joe Wilhelm's about 10. Got home a little after 1. Had very good luck. Got 135. Had dinner & did up the dishes & then Lesters went down to Douglas's & Dell's. They got back about 8. I have the cold today.

Mon. Sept. 6
Dandy nice day. Quite warm in P.M. Mon was at Arthur's hauling in bales. Lester, Isa & I went too the community Hall too the Labor Day picnic. Left here about 1:15. Stopped at Vernie Mannings a few minutes. Got over to the church & there was hardly anyone there so we went for a ride south & west. Had a nice ride. Got back there & sat in the car for a while & then sat around over under the tents & visited until we had our meal at 4:30. Very good dinner. I came home with Leonard & Claude a little after 6. Lester & Isa stayed there. They went on home from there. Mon & I went too Lodge in eve. Not many out. Lloyd, Eleanor & Donna were here a few minutes in A.M. They are on their way too California to live.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon was at Arthur's in P.M. He went too Decorah in eve too Lodge with Claude. Elsie, Violet, Pearl, Inez & Marlyn were here in eve & we finished our Annual Dinner business.

Nice day but cool. Dean & Tommy were here awhile in A.M. & then Mon went down there too help ring pigs etc. I went too W.S.C.S. meeting at Mrs. Lloyd Knowlton's in P.M. with Ruth. Not many out. Had quite a business session. Finishing the annual dinner business. Had a very good lunch. Rained in the nite.

Nice day. We went up too the church about 1. Mr. Williams from Decorah came up & put in a new water pipe too pipe cold water into the dining room. Elsie was there too. Nice day. I picked up ground cherries & picked & made cuke pickles in A.M. Went up too Aunt Alice's a little while in P.M. She came home too stay a few days. We mowed the lawn in P.M. Went down too Archie Ward's in eve too the barn dance. Came home about 12. Very large crowd when we left & more coming. Dewey played there too.

Dark dreary day again until in P.M. the sun did shine for just a few minutes. Cool. I went up too the church basement in P.M. & a bunch of us washed all the dishes & silverware.

Quite foggy early in A.M. but cleared off later in P.M. & was a nice day. We went too Decorah early in A.M. & I got a permanent. Run around with Iona & Tommy awhile after I got down town. Tommy came home with us & then Dean's came & got him on their way home. We went down there later in P.M. for some eggs. Marie & the kiddies came on the bus tonite.

Nice day. Ruth bro't Bill up about 9 & left him while she went too Decorah. She came after him about 5. Some men came in A.M. too see about trading tractors so Mon went down home with them. He went too Spring Grove in P.M. Bill & Gary had a big time today. Mon went down home in eve with some men from Spring Grove & traded tractors with them. I went down town in eve & then Mon stopped off down there when he came from down home.

Dandy nice day. Ruth bro't the boys up here after S.S. & they & Gary had a big time until we went too Decorah. Gary rode down with us & Bill & Dan. Had a picnic at the Phelps Park for Marvin & Ginny's & our anniversaries. Claude's, Arthur's, Dean's, Dell's, Harry's, Fred & Kate Douglas, Marion & Gloria Ann & Harold & Meadie Harvey who are here visiting. Had a swell dinner & good time.

Mon. Sept. 20
Our 38th Wedding anniversary. Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Decorah early in A.M. & then he went down too Dean's about 10. They bro't the new tractor down there about 10:30. Mon was down there for dinner. We went too Lodge in eve. Decorah & Canton were here. Not too many from any Lodge. Had a good supper. Played Bingo after Lodge. Had fun.

Tues. Sept. 21
Dandy nice day. Clouded up later in P.M. & the wind blew hard from the north & got colder. Mon took me up too the church at noon & then he went down too Arthur's too haul in hay bales. We worked at the basement again getting ready for our dinner. Mon stayed at Gordon's garage in A.M. I picked up ground cherries & Mon dug some potatoes after we got home. Covered the tomatoes & peppers. Prediction of frost. We went down town a little while in eve. Cold nite, but the wind went down some. Had a letter from Isa.

Wed. Sept. 22
Light frost but didn't hurt. Nice bright day but cool. We & Brayton's went too Hesper right after dinner & got the turkeys & took them too Harmony too be roasted. 21 turkeys weighed 528 lbs. at .26¢ per lb. Mon went down home awhile after we got home.

Thurs. Sept. 23
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon was down at Dean's awhile in A.M. He took me up too the church about 1. We had our Annual Turkey Dinner this eve. Started serving at 4:30. Had plenty of food & had a big crowd. Everything seemed too go very good. I rode home with Howard's. Mon went too Lodge. Marvin, Ginny & Gail left for home early this A.M.

Nice day. Quite windy but warm. Mon took me up too the church about 8:30 & we washed dishes & cleared up after last nite. Mon went too Dean's. Ruth bro't me home. I went too Club in P.M. with Charlene. Quite a few out & we had a good lunch. We went too Decorah about 5:30 too an I.O.O.F. chicken supper. They started serving at 6 so we were at the first tables. Very good dinner. They had a dance after the dinner was over. "Little Vince" played. Raymond Y's, Joe M's, Bill E's, Walt B's, Vlad M's were down from B.O. Had a good time. We left about 11. Had a flat tire when we got down to the car. Mon had too change it.

Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & eve & sometimes quite hard. Dean's bro't Tommy up here about 8:30 & left him. They went too Gretchen Willson's wedding. Dean came back about 3 & was here a few minutes. Mon & Tommy went & got Linda from school. They stayed here all nite. Dean's went too the "Shower Dance". Made pepper hash & canned some ground cherries today.

Wed. Sept. 29
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off later & was a very nice warm day. Mon & Tommy took Linda too school & then Iona came back with Mon & they brought 10 roosters too dress. Dean & Tommy came a little later. We got through with the chickens a little after 12. Had dinner & then Dean's went home & Mon went down there & the men finished cutting corn. Listened to the first game of the World Series. New York Giants & Cleveland Indians. Giants won 5-2 in a 10 inning game. Mon came home about 3:30 & we took the chickens too Decorah to the locker. Mon went down town a little while in eve.

Dark dreary chilly day. Inez & Brayton came up in A.M. & picked up the ground cherries. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. after the ball game. Sun came out awhile in P.M. Giants won 3-1. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Ruth came after the boys about 4:30. Giants won the ball game today 6-2.

Rather nice for a little while in A.M. but it soon clouded up again & rained off & on the rest of the day. Sometimes quite hard. Had hard rain about supper time with quite an electrical storm. Thunder & lightning most of the nite again & rain. We went too Decorah about 11. Got my hair fixed. Linda & I had lunch & run around some in the rain. Came home about 3. Had just got to bed when Dean's came after Linda. They didn't stay only a minute. Were on their way too Si's after Tommy. Giants won the ball game today again 7-4 too finish the World Series. Had a letter from Isa.

Rained early in A.M. but cleared off about 10 & was nice the rest of the day. Quite warm. Mon took me too church in A.M. I rode home with Lucy S. We went up too see Lena Darrington at the Caledonia Hospital in P.M. She had been there 5 weeks with a broken leg. Clifford was there awhile too. Thunder, lightning & rain again in the nite.

Dandy nice day. Cool. I started work at the P.O. this morn. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. & got a hair cut. The Annual Dinner menu com. were supposed too meet here in eve but only Inez & Elsie came. We got it all straightened out as much as we could.

Thurs. Oct. 7
37º this morn. Didn't freeze much even if it frost quite a little. Rather cloudy in P.M. but was quite nice in A.M. Started too rain about 6:30 & kept it up most of the nite I guess. I was at the P.O. Mon went down home in A.M. & helped shock corn. We went too Decorah in eve too the I.O.O.F. Centenial.

Fri. Oct. 8
Not very nice day again dark & dreary. Not very cold though. I was at the P.O. We went down too Breezy Hill about 5:45. The I.O.O.F. had a chicken dinner out there & it was very good. Very large crowd out. Anyone could go. They had free acts at 8 & the best I ever saw. Dancing started at 9. Krumms orchestra. All new time except a couple of Waltzes while we were there. The door prize, a clock radio, was given away at 11 & we came home then.

Another dark day. I was at the P.O. Doings at the I.O.O.F. hall at Decorah again tonite but we didn't go. Terribly foggy in eve. Mon went down town a little while.

Sun. Oct. 10
Rained very hard until about 10. Mon took me too church. We went too Mabel in eve too the Show. "Elephant Walk". It was good. Rained hard while we were going over & while we were in the show.

Mon. Oct. 11
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. quite warm. Arthur & Bill came up & got me about 1 & I went down there. Ruth had a birthday party for Bill. He is 5 years old. She had 8 little folks & their mothers. He got such nice gifts. They played games & then Ruth served them a nice lunch. Iona & Tommy were there & Linda came home from school with Danny. Dean came after them & Mon came after me. Iona & I did the dishes before we left for home.

Tues. Oct. 12
Rather dark early in A.M. but cleared off in a little while & was a very nice day only rather windy. We went too La Crosse about 1. I got a new suit $45.95 & some other things. We came home by the way of Rushford. It was a beautiful drive. Trees so pretty.

Wed. Oct. 13
Nice part of the time. Sun shone some & it looked rainy at times too. I washed in A.M. & dug some gladiola bulbs. Went too W.S.C.S. at Josephine P's in P.M. with Marilyn. Quite a few out. Josephine had the service for the Week of Prayer & Self Denial. She had a nice lunch. Had quite an electrical storm in the eve & night. Rained very hard. I ironed in eve.

Rained again most of the day. Sometimes quite hard. Did clear off late in P.M. & was nice in eve. Somewhat cooler. Didn't do much. I went up too the Lutheran Annual dinner in eve. They sure had a swell turkey dinner & a big crowd. I waited down town then & came home with Mon after Lodge.

Another dark damp day. Didn't do too much. We went down too Dean's in A.M. & got some eggs & then in P.M. we went too Spring Grove but didn't get too see who we wanted too see. Got quite chilly & was a cool nite.

Sat. Oct. 16
Nice bright day but quite windy & it was chilly. We went too Decorah about 9:30. Got my hair fixed & got some things I needed. It was Luther Colleges home coming so we stayed down & saw the parade about 1:10. It was good. We went & had a lunch then. Went down too see Uncle Aaron. We went down too Dean's & Arthur's a little while later in P.M.

Sun. Oct. 17
Dandy nice day. We left home about 10:15 & picked Dean, Iona & Tommy up & drove too Waterloo. Had lunch there & then I boarded the bus for Des Moines at 2 P.M. & the folks went back home. I got in here about 6 & took a taxi too the Martin Hotel where I will be staying for the time of the Rebekah Assembly. Went out & had supper at the Hong Kong & then back too the Hotel where I watched T.V. until 9.

Mon. Oct. 18
Dandy nice day. Rather cool wind. Got up about 7 & went for breakfast about 8. Walked around awhile & then to the Hotel Savery where I registered & got my papers fixed up then gave the secret work. Then Mrs. Williamson from [Hopeville?] & I walked & walked seeing the town. We had dinner at Bishops & then walked some more & then back too the Savery where we spent the rest of the P.M. Special Session, giving the delegates degree etc. Walked around awhile & then up too my room awhile & then back to the Savery to the Reception honoring all the Grand Officers & guests & then punch & cookies. Got back to my room about 10:45. Beautiful costumes at the reception. Saw Fred & Hazel G. after the reception.

Tues. Oct. 19
Quite a nice day. Some warmer. Went out too breakfast about 7:30. Walked around awhile & then to the Savery for the opening session of the Rebekah Assembly. Got out about 12:45. Had dinner & then back for 1:30 session which lasted until after 5. Came back too the room a few minutes & then we went out too supper then too the Scottish Rite Temple too the Presentation of Flags (20 countries). Decoration of Chivalry (17 ladies) & then down stairs too the Grand Ball for awhile. We came back too our rooms about 10:30. Rained a little in the nite. I went around with Mrs. Belle Williamson & Mrs. [Linnes? Hiserodt?] from Algona. She has a room next to mine.

Wed. Oct. 20
Quite a nice day. We (Mrs. H. & I) went out for breakfast & then too the Savery for the morning session. To St. John's Lutheran too the Delegates luncheon & also for the Memorial Service there. We run around, 10¢ stores & then back too our rooms too clean up. Out too Bishops for supper & then too the Scottish Rites Temple for Conferring Rebekah Lodge by Lucile S's Lodge of Clinton & a Drill by Leon. It was all beautiful. We were lucky enough too catch a ride back too our rooms. Mrs. W. stayed all nite with me. Got too bed about 1. Rained some in the nite.

Rather cloudy at times & sprinkled some off & on during the day but we were inside. Went out for breakfast & then too the Savery for the closing day. So much fooling around & time thrown away. Got our checks at noon so had too hurry too the bank get them cashed, grab a lunch & get back too the S. at 1:30. Didn't get out of the morning session until about 12:45. Had the closing session after lunch & then the Installation of Grand Officer's. [Lwirle?] Shanda as Pres. Very beautiful formals & flowery language & gifts. Mrs. W. left right after the meeting. Mrs. H. & I had dinner at Bishop's then sat around here at the lobby until after 8 & she went home. I'm left alone.

Fri. Oct. 22
Dandy nice day. Got up about 6 & got my suitcase packed, paid my bill $25.00 & walked up too the bus depot. Had a good breakfast there. Left D.M. at 7:45. Got too Waterloo about 11:45 & changed busses there. Left there at 12:10 & Ruth Holt rode up from there with me. We were a little late getting too Decorah. Got there at 3. Mon, Arthur, Ruth & Bill were there too meet me. Found out then that Dean's & Mon had, had a car accident on their way home last Sun. & our car was smashed up. Luckily no one was hurt badly. Mon & I had a lunch in Decorah as I hadn't had anything too eat since morn. We went on over too Arthur's. Mon had Dean's pick up there. We came on home with that. Went too the dance in eve but only about 24 there in all so we sat around & visited awhile then had a little lunch & came home. Henry Aaby was killed in Chicago tonite.

Sat. Oct. 23
Dandy nice day. Dean was here awhile early in A.M. & then he took the pick up & went too Decorah & got some chicken crates. We went down a while later & helped catch the old hens & he took them too Decorah. We drove his car back up here & had a lunch & changed our clothes & went back down there. We all went too Decorah in P.M. Mon spent most of the P.M. at the Clinic. He had a thorough going over. I run around with Iona & the kiddies. Had a letter from Isa.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. I went too church in A.M. Dean's came up & got us in eve & we went down too Arthur's & saw their movies & slides they took when they were out west this summer. They were good. Had a nice lunch afterward. Gladys A. was here a few minutes early in eve.

Mon. Oct. 25
Dandy nice warm day. I washed & ironed. Dug the rest of the glad bulbs & the dahlias. Mon hauled away ashes & junk in A.M. & went down too Arthur's in P.M. & they tried out the new corn picker. I went up too the State Line Church in eve with Brayton's too their bazaar. They had very nice things. Had a nice lunch afterward. I bought some popcorn.

Tues. Oct. 26
Rained almost all day & sometimes quite hard. I went too Henry Aaby's funeral at the Lutheran Church in P.M. with Claude's. Large crowd out & the most beautiful flowers & so many of them. I went to the program at the Hall in eve put on by the B.O. School. It was very good & there was a large crowd out. The adjuster from the Insurance Co. came about 5 P.M.

Wed. Oct. 27
Beautiful day but quite a little cooler. Dean & Tommy were here a few minutes early in A.M. They took the pick up & hauled Si's old hens too Decorah. They were here for awhile in P.M. too. I went too Canton in eve with Joe M's too a Hallowe'en Party. B.O., Decorah, Cresco & Harmony Lodges invited, but not too many out. Quite a few of us went masked. Had some stunts & skits put on by B.O. Cresco & Decorah. Had a swell lunch afterward.

Thurs. Oct. 28
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained most of P.M. Cleared off & was nice in eve. Dean, Iona & Tommy were here a little while in P.M. Arthur's came & got us in eve & took us too their school program. Quite a crowd out. They had a good program. Had sack lunches & coffee afterward & they sold candy & pop.

About 30º. Dark dreary cold & windy day. Snowed quite a little early in A.M. & then off & on during the day. Mon took me too Gloria Whitney's in P.M. too Club with the pick up. Quite a few out & we sure had a good lunch. I rode home with Phyllis W.

Sat. Oct. 30
About 24º. Nice bright day. Cool. We went too Decorah about 10:15 with Dean. I got my hair fixed. We had lunch down town. Mon got an old Pontiac at Bradley's for us too drive until we get our car. Dean came up on his way home & Mon drove his car home & Dean took the pick up home. Dean & the kiddies bro't him home.

About 20º this morn. Nice day. Warmed up some. I went too church in A.M. Ruth came up & got me about 1 P.M. & we went up too the church basement where some of the girls had a "Shower" for Walter Ward Jr. & his bride. They got a lot of nice gifts. Had a nice lunch too. Got home about 5:30. Rode home with Albert & Florence.

Mon. Nov. 1
About 16º degrees. Rather a blustery day. Sun shone some & snowed off & on all day. Cool. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. & took his car & went too Decorah too the Dr. We went too Lodge in eve. Cold up there. Quite a few out. I gave my report from the Assembly. We had a nice lunch. Snowed in the nite so the ground was covered.

Tues. Nov. 2
Election Day. Quite a nice day. Some warmer. Mon left about 7:30 for the hall for Election Day. I went down & voted in P.M. Inez came up & stayed with me until Brayton came after her about 3 A.M. Mon came about 4:45. He went with John Rollins too take the Election returns too Decorah. Republicans won out in this part of the state.

Wed. Nov. 3
Nice day but cool. Washed & ironed. Mon slept quite a while in P.M. I went down too the hall in eve too a program put on by Florence Matthews & her pupils. Good program & good crowd. Had a lunch afterward.

Thurs. Nov. 4
Sun shone most of the day but it was cloudy part of the time too. Quite a strong wind from the north & it was chilly. We went down too Dean's & got some eggs in A.M. Stopped at Arthur's on our way home. Dean was there helping Arthur pick corn. Arthur saw a big balloon go down over by Ronald Reeds in Gilbert Rosendahl's field so Mon, Bill & I went down too see it. Sure a big lot of plastic. We went back too Arthur's & had dinner there. Mon went too Lodge in eve but they didn't have any. Cold nite.

About 16º this morn. Nice day. Warmed up quite a little. Mon was at Dean's picking corn today. I washed windows. Dance in B.O. tonite but we didn't go. [R---de's?] are working on the road trying too widen the road but they look like they are just making a mess of it.

Sat. Nov. 6
Beautiful day. Warmed up quite a lot. We went too Decorah about 10. Dean's were down there & we ran around with them & had dinner together down there. Mon got a new clock radio. Mine doesn't work very well. Our car wasn't ready so we had too drive the old car back home again. We went down town awhile in eve.

Beautiful day. Quite warm. Up past 70º in P.M. I went too church in A.M. We were alone all day & eve.

Beautiful day. Nice & warm. Mon was at Dean's picking corn. I washed & waxed floors & did other jobs. The men were working at the road again today & the dust was terrible. They finished past here today. I went up too the church in eve too the quarterly conference meeting. Only Paul W., Albert E. & I there besides the Arnolds. Albert bro't me home.

Tues. Nov. 9
Beautiful day again. Mon was at Dean's. Ruth & Bill came up about 12:30 & Iona & Tommy came a little later. We had a "Shower" here for Gloria Ann. Her mother, Eunice Kirkeby, Olive, Grace, Anita, Luella, Marilyn & Jackie were here. Gloria Ann got nice gifts but of course not too many. We served sandwiches, pickles, jello, cake & coffee. Ruth went & got Danny & Linda about 3:30. I went up too the church in eve. Dr. Dunn was here. Not many out. I rode home with Paul's.

Beautiful day. Mon was at Dean's. I washed & ironed in A.M. Went too W.S.C.S. at Marilyn's in P.M. with Ruth. Quite a few out. Had a nice lunch. We got a big load of coal today.

Thurs. Nov. 11
Beautiful day. Mon was at Dean's in A.M. He came home about 2 & bro't Tommy with him. Iona went too Locust to an Aide meeting. We had a big time. Dean's came after Tommy after chores but couldn't stay as they were going to have company. Mon went too Lodge & I went down town. Cool nite.

Fri. Nov. 12
Nice day. Mon was down too Dean's a few minutes in A.M. & then Dean was here a little while. We went too Decorah about 12:30. Mon got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. We got our car this P.M. so we drove that home. Went down too Dean's late in P.M. & got some eggs & an old hen too dress. I went too a Stanley Party at Jeanette Inglett's in eve with Irene Foss. Not many out. Had some fun & a nice lunch. Cool nite. They finished picking corn at Dean's this A.M.

Nice day. Mon was at Arthur's picking corn until about 2 P.M. We went too Mabel in P.M. & he had a tooth pulled.

Dandy nice day. Very warm. Mon was at Arthur's picking corn. I washed & ironed. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a Birthday Party for those having birthdays the last 6 months of the year. Played Bunco. Had a nice lunch. We had a hog butchered last week & Dean & Tommy bro't the lard up in P.M. & I tried that out.

Dandy nice warm day. Mon was at Arthur's picking corn. I baked & made candy in A.M. Went up too the church & worked in P.M. We had our Bazaar in eve. Carl Wennes & Ruen were auctioneers. Had a good crowd & a good sale. Had a lunch afterward.

Dandy nice day. Mon was at Arthur's picking corn. I worked at the P.O. Audry L. was up in eve & we planned the food for the lunch the Rebekah's are serving Nov. 26th. "Happy" came up after her & stayed a little while. Olive started going through the Clinic at Rochester today. They got home about 5:30.

Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & got cooler. Mon was at Arthur's part of A.M. They finished picking corn there. He went too Dean's in P.M. I was at the P.O. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Olive was at Rochester today.

Fri. Nov. 19
Quite a nice day but somewhat cooler. Mon was at Dean's in P.M. & hauled up some pole wood from there. I was at the P.O. We went too Decorah in eve. I went too Lodge & gave my report from the Rebekah Assembly. Not many out. Had a nice lunch afterward. Mon played cards & I heard "Secret Work". Got home a little after 11. It rained some while we were down there. Olive was at Rochester today.

Sat. Nov. 20
Not very nice in A.M. Dark & cool. Cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. I was at the P.O. today. Last day. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. We went down too Dean's after I got through work after some eggs. Arthur's bro't the boys up & left them all night. They went too Decorah to the Teacher, Director Banquet. Olive was at Rochester today.

Quite a nice day. Ruth came up at S.S. time & got the boys. I went too church. Went over too Claudes awhile late in P.M.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Dean's in P.M. but no one home. Olive went back too Rochester today but didn't come home with Claude.

Tues. Nov. 23
Rained quite hard for awhile early in A.M. Snowed a little too. Sun shone some later in A.M. & in P.M. but was cloudy part of the time too. Wind blew quite hard & it got colder. We went down too Arthur's & got a goose about 10 & one for Ruth & took them too Decorah too have them dressed. Mon went too the Dr. but both Dalquist & Svendson were gone so he didn't get too see them. Dean & Tommy were here a minute in P.M. I wiped up floors in P.M. Olive didn't come home today.

Rained & snowed. Wind blew hard in P.M. & eve. Regular blizzard at times. We went down too Arthur's just after dinner & got our goose. Arthur was down town & bro't it out. Went on over too Dean's & got some eggs & cream. Olive came home this eve & I went over there awhile.

Thurs. Nov. 25
About 22º this morn. Not very nice day. Cloudy & cold & rather windy. Arthur's, Deans, Claude, Olive & Leonard, Marion & Gloriann were here for dinner. Had picnic dinner & a good dinner.

Fri. Nov. 26
Quite nice early in A.M. but it clouded up later in A.M. & snowed some. Snowed off & on in P.M. & then about 4 P.M. it sure did snow hard for awhile & packed on the pavement so it was plenty slippery. Snowed off & on in eve. We went too Decorah about 10. Got my hair fixed. Mon went too the Dr. He took me too Club at Inez W's. in P.M. Quite a few out & a swell lunch. Had nomination of officers. Bernell Snell Pres. Lillian S. V.P., Martha B. Sec., Joyce B. Asst. Sec. Valeda W. Treas. I rode home with Alice W. Went down too the hall about 6:30. Another big sale there & the Rebekahs served the lunch. Audrey, Ida H. & I were lunch com. Big crowd at the Sale. We took in $23.73. Had a letter from Isa.

Sat. Nov. 27
Quite a nice day. Thawed quite a lot so that the ice thawed off the pavement & the side roads. I went over to the Plymouth Church in P.M. with Margaret Ward to a "Shower" for Janice McCabe. Large crowd out & she got so many nice gifts. Had a very nice lunch too. Fern, Shirley & Hilda R. went with Margaret too.

Not too nice a day. Dark. Snowed off & on all P.M. Not hard but enough too stick to the pavement some. I went too church in A.M. Went over too Claude's a few minutes late in P.M.

Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off before dinner & was a nice day. Was over too Claudes awhile in A.M. They left for Rochester about 11:30. Mon was in Decorah most of the day getting the car fixed.

Tues. Nov. 30
Not very nice day. Started too snow just after dinner & it sure did snow the rest of the P.M. & on into the eve. About 10 in.s of snow fell. Dean was here a minute in A.M. & Mon went down there just after dinner & helped him grind feed.

Wed. Dec. 1
Not too nice in A.M. but was very nice most of P.M. Claude came home this P.M. & he said Olive had her operation yesterday. She was in the operating room about 5 hrs. She was feeling pretty sick today but the Dr. said she was coming as good as she could. Mon went down town awhile in eve.

Thurs. Dec. 2
Snowed off & on in A.M. Sun shone some in P.M. but it was dark part of the time too. I washed & hung the clothes upstairs. They dried so I got them ironed in P.M. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Dec. 3
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a lot. I went too Rochester with Claude & Leonard. Leonard drove. We left here about 9:30. Got in too see Olive awhile in A.M. She was sitting up in a chair when we got there & then she walked down the hall way with us & sat in the parlor & visited a while. We stayed with her until her dinner came & then we went out too dinner. Walked around awhile then & went back too see her. Left for home about 3:15. She feels pretty good for what she went through. We got home about 4:15. Went to the 30th Wedding Anniversary of Hjalmer & Ida Vine at the hall in eve. Big crowd out. Had a nice lunch We came home after supper. Cold nite.

Sat. Dec. 4
About 8º above this morn. Dandy nice day. Warmed up quite a little. Arthur bro't Ruth & the boys up here about 9 A.M. & then we took them too Decorah. We left Ruth & Bill at Krumm's (where Ruth gives violin lessons until 2:30) Dan went over town with us. I took him too the barber shop where he got a hair cut & then he & I went around to the different stores looking at Xmas toys. He took a cab back too Krumms then. Mon & I had a lunch about 12:30. Ruth, Bill & Mrs. K. came over town about 2:45 & Ruth got Dan some shoes & overshoes & then we came home. Arthur came up about 4:30 after them.

Beautiful day. I went too church in A.M. We were alone all day & eve. Claude went up too see Olive today. She is coming pretty good.

About 10º below. Nice day. Warmed up quite a little. I washed & ironed. We went down too Dean's in P.M. after some eggs. Iona's Birthday. Tommy was asleep so we didn't get too talk too him. Stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way home. I went too Lodge in eve & then Howard R. had lost his car keys & he phoned for Mon too come & get them. Had Election of officers. Dorothea R. N.G. Wilma O.G., Ida H. Sec. & myself Treas. Had lunch.

Nice day. Didn't do much.

Wed. Dec. 8
Rather cloudy most of the day but not very cold. Leonard was here for dinner. I went up too the church in P.M. too the W.S.C.S. meeting. Our Christmas party but instead of exchanging gifts we each gave money too send too the [Baby?] Fold at Dubuque. Got $11. Had picnic lunch & a good one. Dorothea R. & Rosella H. were hostesses & furnished the sandwiches & coffee. Started too snow lightly in eve. Wind blew quite hard in the nite.

Fri. Dec. 10
Quite a nice day. Didn't do too much. Went too an oyster supper at the hall in eve. I.O.O.F. put it on. Not too many out. Had a few dances & some played cards.

Sat. Dec. 11
Rained early in A.M. & froze on the pavement so it was quite slippery. Warmed up so it thawed off by noon. Sun shone some in P.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. Got my hair fixed. Big crowd in town. We got the smoked meat at Wepler's. Took ours to the locker & bro't Dean's home with us. He, Linda & Tommy came after it just after we got home.

Not so nice early in A.M. Rather dark, frosty & chilly. Cleared off later & was quite nice. Olive called for Claude too come & get her about noon. Dean & Tommy were here just after dinner awhile. Dean went on home & Tommy stayed here awhile. Mon went down too help Dean grind feed & Tommy went with him. I went down too Arthur's. Went over too see Olive when I got home. She looks good & said she felt good only got rather tired riding home. She was in bed but was planning on getting up later. Marion's came while I was there.

Tues. Dec. 14
Not too bad in A.M. Quite nice. Sun shone some but it clouded up about noon & started snowing about 1:30. Sure did snow most of the P.M. Wind came up in eve & blew quite hard. I washed. Dean's bro't Tommy up about 9 & left him. They went too La Crosse with Wallace's. Got back about 4. Tommy & I went over too see Olive awhile in P.M.

Quite a nice day. I ironed in A.M. Went over too Olive's awhile in P.M. Had a letter from Isa.

Thurs. Dec. 16
Not too bad a day. Went over too Olive's awhile in P.M. Mon went too Lodge in eve. Mrs. Koenig died this A.M. Snowed in the nite.

Fri. Dec. 17
Not very nice day. Blustery. Snowed some & the wind blew quite hard. Not cold until later in P.M. it got cooler. Quite blizzardy at nite. I went up too the church in P.M. & helped Ruth decorate for Sun. She & Billy & Arthur bro't me home. Went over too Olive's a few minutes after I got back. We went to the dance in eve. Very few out. Charlie O. played. Had a letter from Isa.

Sat. Dec. 18
Not very nice day. Blustery day. Snowed & blew & drifted. I went too Mrs. Koenig's funeral at the Lutheran Church in P.M. Not too big a crowd out. They had another Inventory Sale at the hall in eve. The Rebekah's served lunch again. Mon didn't go this time.

Sun. Dec. 19
Quite a nice day. Went too church in A.M. Went back up too the church about 1 P.M. We had an open house shower for Mary Lou Corault & "Gene". Quite a few out. Had lunch of cookies, cake, ice cream & coffee. They got many nice gifts.

Mon. Dec. 20
Not very nice day. Very foggy early in A.M. & everything was covered with frost. Did thaw some during the middle of the day. Rather misty late in P.M. & eve. We went too Decorah about 9. I was too be at the court house at 10 for jury service. Had roll call & sat around til 11:30 & they let us go. Mon was waiting down town but as I had too stay down for P.M. he came home. Went back up there at 1:30 & they let us go a little after 2. Nothing doing. I came home with Christy Foss. We went too Lodge in eve. Had a lunch afterward. Olive went back to Rochester for a check up today & is coming O.K. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Dec. 21
Frosty dark day again. Didn't do much.

Wed. Dec. 22
Frosty day again. I washed & hung part of the clothes up stairs. Had to bring the rest in & hang them up stairs too finish drying. Made some candy.

Thurs. Dec. 23
Rather frosty early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Thawed quite a little. We went too Decorah about 9:30. Got my hair fixed. We came home about noon. Stopped at Louie's a minute. He is not very well. Arthur's were there. Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went too the Christmas program at the church. Large crowd out & the program was very good. I rode home with Howard's. We went down too Dean's late in P.M. after some eggs. They got home from town just as we got there. Made some candy in P.M. & ironed.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Made candy & cleaned up the floors.

Sat. Dec. 25
Nice day. Quite warm. A lot of the snow melted away. We went down too Arthur's. Dean's were there & Arthur went down & got Louie & bro't him up for dinner. Mrs. K. went too Florida a week ago Thurs. too spend Christmas with Rogers. We had a good dinner. Goose & trimmings. Iona took cake & I pies & Ruth furnished the rest. Bill didn't feel very good. We had our gift exchange. I got a nice apron & lunch cloth from Ruth. Mon came home about 4 & Ruth, Dan & I went over to Power's too watch the Messiah on T.V. Josephine gave us lunch afterward so it was about 7 when I got home.

Rather a dark day but quite warm. Thawed quite a little. I went too church in A.M. We went over too Claude's in eve. It snowed a little in eve.

Tues. Dec. 28
Nice day but a chilly wind. Did warm up some in P.M. I washed & ironed. We went too Decorah a little while right after dinner. Mon went too a meeting about the schools at the hall in eve. I went too Locust with Dean's too their Christmas program. Large crowd out & a good program. Had a lunch afterward. We got back here about 10:30 & the folks stopped a few minutes.

Rather dark & damp part of the time & the sun shone part of the time too. Chilly wind. Mon & Leonard took some hall windows too Prosper in A.M. too get them fixed & then went after them in P.M. & worked & put them back again. Cool nite.

Thurs. Dec. 30
About zero this morn. Nice day. Mon went too Lodge in eve & I went down too the hall too. The auditing comm. audited the books in the kitchen during Lodge & then we practiced after the men were through Lodge. We went down too Dean's & got some eggs.

Fri. Dec. 31
Nice day. We went too Decorah awhile.
