Thurs. Jan. 1
Cloudy, windy cool day. Mon went up & got Mama & Isa in A.M. & Dean's came over for dinner. We took Lester's & Mama home in eve. Lester stayed up there tonite.

Fri. Jan. 2
Quite a nice day. Lester came down early in A.M. & husked corn. Mon went up & got Isa & they went too Decorah in P.M. Got our meat. Ruth, Danny & I went too Club at Maude's in P.M. We went too an I.O.O.F. Dance at the Hall in eve. Lester's went with us. Had a good time & good music. Lester stayed up too Mama's.

Sat. Jan. 3
Rather chilly again today. We went up & got Lester's about 10 & went too Decorah. Got my hair fixed. They came home too supper with us & we took them home after chores but came right home.

Sun. Jan. 4
Dandy nice day. Mon took me too church in A.M. We were alone all day & eve.

Mon. Jan. 5
Very nice day. Lester came down early in A.M. & husked corn. Mon took the car too B.O. about 9:30. I went too the Sale at Jim Headington's. L.A.S. served. We sold everything. Dean was there & in B.O. & he bro't Mon & I home.

Tues. Jan. 6
Dandy nice day. Lester husked corn. Dean's came over about noon. Dean took Mon too Waukon in P.M. too see about a new Hudson. No luck. Iona, Linda & I went over too Howard's awhile in P.M.

Wed. Jan. 7
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Lester finished husking in A.M. & started cutting wood in P.M. Mon went over & helped Arthur sort pigs in A.M. Danny is sick. Mon & I went over there awhile in P.M. We went up town in eve & Lester & I went up too Mama's awhile. We stopped at Arthur's on our way up town. Little daughter born too Johnnie & Jeanne Whalen this P.M.

Thurs. Jan. 8
Nice day. Lester cut wood. He helped Howard saw wood for about an hour just after dinner. Mon & I took Mama & Isa too Decorah about 11. Mama went too see the Dr. & she also got her hair fixed. We stopped at Art's on our way home. Danny isn't very well.

Fri. Jan. 9
Not very nice day. Rather dark & dreary. Lester cut wood. We went over too Art's a few minutes in P.M. Danny isn't much different. Mon went over too Marion's awhile after we got home.

Sat. Jan. 10
Rather dark most of the day & chilly. The sun did shine a little. We took Lester up home & then Isa went too Decorah with us. We stopped at Art's on our way home. Danny wasn't very good so I stopped there in eve while Mon went too B.O. I sat up with Danny then until about 1 when Mon came.

Sun. Jan. 11
Quite cool early in A.M. but warmed up & thawed quite a lot. We went over too Arthur's awhile in P.M. Danny was a little better, but his fever came up again in eve.

Mon. Jan. 12
Not very nice day, or rather early in A.M. but did get better during the day. Quite windy & some snow squalls but it wasn't too bad. Mon went up & got Lester early in A.M. & he cut wood all day. Mon helped in P.M.

Tues. Jan. 13
8º below. Cooler, quite windy & blustery. Lester cut wood in A.M. Mon went too Decorah. It got much more windy & colder in P.M. so we all went up town awhile. I went up too Mama's & Jeanne came home from the Hospital with her baby this P.M. Danny is better.

Wed. Jan. 14
18º below. Cold day but it did warm up a little in P.M. Wind blew all day but went down at nite. Snowed in the nite. Lester & Mon hauled in some hay in A.M. & started hauling up wood in P.M. Dean, Iona & Linda came over in P.M. They went too Decorah & left Linda here. Danny is better.

Thurs. Jan. 15
Rather blustery. Not cold in A.M. but got much colder & was a regular blizzard later in P.M. & eve. Wind blew hard. The men hauled up wood until in P.M. when it got so stormy.

Fri. Jan. 16
22º below. Nice bright day but it didn't warm up much all day. We went up town a little while in P.M. I went up too Mama's. Isa came home with us. We stopped at Arthur's a few minutes on our way home. Danny is pretty good. We played pinochle in eve. Cold nite.

Sat. Jan. 17
24º below. Bright day. It did warm up a little but not much. We went too Decorah about 11. Cold down there. Got my hair fixed. We got home about 4. Cold nite, but warmed up some during the nite. We played pinochle in eve.

Sun. Jan. 18
Zero. Not too nice & not too bad. Got rather blustery for a while in P.M. & got some colder. We went over too Arthur's awhile in P.M. Had fun with Danny & played pinochle.

Mon. Jan. 19
Quite a nice day. The men finished hauling up the wood in P.M. I went over too Arthur's about 11 & stayed with Danny while they went too Decorah. They got back about 4 & then Arthur bro't me home. We played cards in eve.

Tues. Jan. 20
Quite a changeable day. We washed in A.M. The men hauled in corn fodder & hay in A.M. We went up town in P.M. Isa & I went up too Mama's. Iona & Linda were there. Got colder in the nite. We played cards.

Wed. Jan. 21
Cold, windy day. Rather blustery at times. Sun shone most of the day though. Joe & Arthur Wilhelm sawed wood for us today. Didn't quite finish. The wind went down in eve.

Thurs. Jan. 22
13º below. Quite windy & cold again today. Finished sawing the wood in P.M. We played cards in eve. Cold nite but the wind went down.

Fri. Jan. 23
20º below. Warmed up a little during the day but not much. Mon & Lester took me over too Whitney's after dinner & I went too Club at [Lenora?] Liestikow's with them. Quite a few out & a swell lunch. Rode back too B.O. with Dean Smith's & came home with the men from there. We played cards in eve.

Sat. Jan. 24
Mon's 53rd Birthday. Nice bright day but cold. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Got back about 4. Cold down there. Went up town in eve. Went up too Mama's awhile. Wilma & Alice were there. We got home about 12.

Sun. Jan. 25
A little warmer. Rather blustery at times but cleared off late in P.M. & was very nice but cold. We did up the chores early went to B.O. & picked up Rick & Anna Torgeson at Koenig's & went up too Howard Rollin's for supper. Had a swell supper & good time. Got home about 1:15.

Mon. Jan. 26
13º below. Cold, windy day. We washed. Mon took Lester too Bluffton about 11 & went back after him about 4. Arthur's bro't Danny over here about 11 & left him & they went too Decorah. They came after him about 4. Cold nite.

Tues. Jan. 27
20º below. Cold day. Didn't do much. The folks went up town in P.M. Claude's were up there too & they took Mama down too Mettie's too stay awhile until the fuel oil shortage is over somewhat.

Wed. Jan. 28
13º below. Nice day but plenty chilly. The folks went too Decorah about 11. Arthur bro't Danny over & left him all P.M. The folks got back about 4 & Art came after Danny about 5:30. Warmer tonite. We went over too Dean's & spent the eve.

Thurs. Jan. 29
Dandy nice day. Thawed some. Claude came up about 10 & got Lester & Isa & they spent the day down there. He bro't them back after supper. Mon went up town in P.M.

Fri. Jan. 30
Quite a nice day. Lester went over too Donlan's about 10 & spent the day. Mon went too La Crosse with Howard & Pearl. They all got home about 4. We went too B.O. in eve too the I.O.O.F. Dance at the Hall. Quite a few out & we had a good time. Got home about 1:30.

Sat. Jan. 31
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Stopped at Arthur's & at Mettie's on our way down. We all had dinner together & then Lester & Isa took the bus at 1:40 for Harlan's. Got my hair fixed. We went up town a little while in eve. Darlene rode home from Decorah with us.

Sun. Feb. 1
Quite a nice day. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over a little while late in P.M.

Mon. Feb. 2
Zero. Quite a nice day but windy & cold. Didn't warm up all day. I washed & ironed. Mon went over too Marions awhile in P.M.

Tues. Feb. 3
Zero. Not too bad a day but rather chilly. Mon went too B.O. in P.M. & something went wrong with the car so he left it up there & rode home with Quandahls.

Wed. Feb. 4
Quite a nice day. Didn't do much of anything.

Thurs. Feb. 5
Nice day. I went too Decorah with Arthur's about noon & we were home at 3:30. Mon went too B.O. a few minutes in P.M. with Howard.

Fri. Feb. 6
Quite warm. Sun shone some but it snowed off & on during the day too. Snowed quite a little in the nite. Ruth came over about 2 & we went too a "Shower" for Jeanne Whalen & baby daughter at Ed Knoke's. Large crowed out. They got such nice things. Had a swell lunch. Mon rode out too the 4 corners with us & walked the rest of the way too B.O.

Sat. Feb. 7
Not very nice day but not too cold. Snowy & blustery. Quite a little snow fell. Got much colder at nite. Arthur came over in A.M. & they tried too start our tractor but they couldn't. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. with Howard. Arthur & Ruth went too Bernard's in P.M. & left Danny with me.

Sun. Feb. 8
My 56th Birthday. Cold, bright day. Warmed up a little during the day, but not much. We were alone all day. Little daughter born too Pat & Bud Haugland.

Mon. Feb. 9
13º below. Not too bad a day. I washed & ironed. Mon walked over too Arthur's after dinner & Arthur took him up town. Warmed up some during the nite.

Tues. Feb. 10
Zero. Not too bad a day but cool all day. Arthur came over in A.M. with his tractor & helped Mon get some hay out of the barn. He was here for dinner & then in P.M. he hauled our tractor up town too be fixed. Mon bro't our car home in P.M. Snowed in the nite. Got a card from Isa.

Wed. Feb. 11
Snowed for awhile in A.M. & then cleared off & was a nice day. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped Mon sort hogs. Glen Clark hauled the hogs too Decorah (Left one at Wepler's too be butchered). Mon went with him the first load & then we went with our car the last load. Wasn't down town long. Went up town awhile in eve. Cold nite. Had our first little calf this morn. Had a card from Isa.

Thurs. Feb. 12
20º below. Quite a nice day. Warmed up quite a lot. Mon went over & got Marion in P.M. & they went too Prosper. We cleaned the hen house after Mon got home. Snowed some in the nite.

Fri. Feb. 13
Not too bad a day. We went too Decorah about 10:45. Got my hair fixed. Took the radio down & got it fixed. Brought our meat home from Wepler's. Went too B.O. too the dance in eve. Quite a few out. Had a good time. Got home about 1:30. Got colder in the nite.

Sat. Feb. 14
Dean's & Iona's 2nd Wedding Anniversary. Quite windy in A.M. & the snow sure did pick up for a while & quite cold but it got better in P.M. & was real nice. Mon went too B.O. awhile in P.M. We went up awhile in eve too. Verna & Darlene went up with us. Clifford Dawley's house burned in the nite.

Sun. Feb. 15
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Dean's & Arthur's were here & spent the day. We sure had a good time with the babies & they had a good time with one another.

Mon. Feb. 16
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a lot. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Walt Rehwinkel's Sale with Arthur about 11:30 & then he bro't the tractor home from B.O. when he came home.

Tues. Feb. 17
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Got quite sloppy. We went out too Cresco about 11:30. Got back about 3. Arthur drove his tractor out there & back again today. Got it pepped up some.

Wed. Feb. 18
Nice day. Thawed quite a lot again. We went too Decorah about 10. Took Marion down. He wasn't feeling very well so he wanted too go & see the Dr. Run around with Dean's in town.

Thurs. Feb. 19
Windy cold day. Sun shone some though. Marion called early in A.M. & Mon went over there. Marion didn't feel very well so Mon took him too Albert's. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Got a new Pontiac Car of Howard Bradley. 5 passenger coupe ($2700). It sure is nice. Left the old car down town. Went too B.O. a little while on our way home.

Fri. Feb. 20
Quite a nice day but chilly. We went over & got Arthur's about 10:30 & went too Decorah. Went too B.O. after we got home. Marion was up there & we took him over too his place too do his chores & then took him back too B.O. so he could go home with Albert's.

Sat. Feb. 21
Rather chilly but nice & bright. Mon hauled up feed in A.M. & we took the radio back too Decorah in P.M. too get it fixed again. Went up town in eve.

Sun. Feb. 22
Quite a nice day but windy & chilly. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too Church in A.M. Mon & I went down too Claude's awhile in P.M. Dell's & Mama were there too. Albert called just after supper that Marion had had a bad spell so we went over there. Florence called Dr. after we were there awhile & he came out. Said Marion had a blood clot. We came home about 12.

Mon. Feb. 23
Not too bad a day. Quite windy & rather chilly until about 3 P.M. it started too thaw & thawed quite a lot. Rained in eve & nite. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too a Farm Bureau meeting at Erlin Stoskoff's in P.M. Large crowed out. Marion is better today.

Tues. Feb. 24
Not very nice day. Rained almost all day & was so very sloppy & slippery getting around. Marion is better.

Wed. Feb. 25
Not very nice day. Rather chilly, dark & dreary. Mon helped saw wood at Art Walter's until about 2:30 & then we went over too Albert's too see Marion awhile. He is much better. Dean was there awhile too. Went up town a minute on our way home. Arthur went & got a stock hog for Mon today.

Thurs. Feb. 26
Beautiful spring day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. with Arthur's & bro't the Hudson home. He went up town in eve. Got a letter from Isa. They are in Rock Island.

Fri. Feb. 27
Linda's First Birthday. Nasty day. Rained all day & most of the nite. Sometimes very hard. Mon took Ruth & I too B.O. after dinner & then we went from there with Dave Thompson too Club at Doris Nash's. Large crowd out & a swell lunch. Lots of high water. We had another little calf today.

Sat. Feb. 28
Not very nice day. Rather blustery at times. Got colder late in P.M. We went too Decorah. Got my hair fixed. Went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Feb. 29
Quite a nice day. Thawed some. Dean's & Philip came over in A.M. Dean took the windmill wheel off. We went for a ride in the Pontiac in P.M. Went as far as Postville. Stopped at Padden's a little while. Got back home about 5. We went over too Albert's in eve too see Marion. He feels quite good.

Mon. Mar. 1
Not so nice early in A.M. but wasn't too bad a day. Mon went too B.O. awhile in A.M. He took the hog shute back too Arthur's in P.M.

Tues. Mar. 2
Not very nice day. Regular blizzard most of the day but not too cold. The gas tank went dry just at noon but they didn't get up with another tank until about 7:30.

Wed. Mar. 3
Dandy nice day. We went too B.O. about 11:30. I went too Lutheran L.A.S. Large crowd out & a swell dinner. Fern & I went too call on Mrs. Koenig a few minutes & then went too Mrs. Cecil Brace's funeral at the M.E. church. We stopped at Arthur's a few minutes on our way home. We all went over too Albert's awhile in eve. No one there but Albert & Uncle Marion.

Thurs. Mar. 4
Quite a nice day but the wind was a little chilly. Thawed some. We left home about 9:40 & went over & got Arthur's & went too La Crosse. Had a nice trip. Didn't run around much up there as Arthur was looking for a pick up. One of us stayed in the car with Danny. Ruth & I did go up town a little while. Art got his pick up & drove it home. Ruth & Danny rode home with us. Got home about 5.

Fri. Mar. 5
Rather a chilly day but not too bad. Mon went too Decorah with Arthur & Ruth in P.M. They left Danny here.

Sat. Mar. 6
Bad day. Snowed all day & sometimes plenty hard. Not cold though. Over a foot of snow fell. Mon went up town awhile in A.M. I went over too Howard's awhile in A.M. Got a letter from Isa today.

Sun. Mar. 7
Quite a nice day. Too much snow too do anything.

Mon. Mar. 8
Not very nice early in A.M. but it cleared off & wasn't too bad a day. Quite windy & chilly. Drifted some during the day. Ruth came & got me in P.M. & we went too school Election. Not many out. Hjalmer was put back in again. Mon went too B.O. awhile. Dean's came over in eve & I went over too Howard's with them. Got home about 11:30. Verna Porter Sanderson passed away this P.M. Cold nite.

Tues. Mar. 9
10º below this morn. Quite a nice day but didn't warm up too much. We met Dean & Philip at the 4 corners about 1 & went out west of Cresco about 4 miles. They bought a bull out there. Stopped in Decorah a few minutes. Got home about 5:15. Cold nite. We had another little calf tonite. (a heifer) We got our smoked hams, shoulder & bacon from Weplers this P.M.

Wed. Mar. 10
13º below this morn. Nice bright day but didn't warm up very much. Quite a bad north wind all day & drifted some. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here awhile in P.M. We took care of some of our meat in P.M. The snow plow went through this P.M. Cold nite.

Thurs. Mar. 11
24 below this morn. Nice day. Warmed up too about zero. Not much wind. I washed & ironed. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Verna Sanderson was buried in Bluffton this P.M. Another cold nite. Coldest weather for this time of the year, on record.

Fri. Mar. 12
18º below. Warmed up some during the day. Was a nice day. Mon hauled in feed in A.M. Pearl & Dean were here awhile in P.M. We went too B.O. too the dance in eve. Had a good time. Got home about 1:30.

Sat. Mar. 13
Quite a nice day. Thawed some. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Got my hair fixed. Went up too see Dr. Rikansrud & had xray pictures of my neck taken. We went up town awhile in eve. Dean's were over town awhile too.

Sun. Mar. 14
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Mon took me too church in A.M. Came down with a cold in P.M. & felt like heck. Claude's took mama back to her home this A.M.

Mon. Mar. 15
Dandy nice day. Felt some better in P.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. I had an adjustment at Dr. R's. Pearl was over in A.M.

Tues. Mar. 16
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. We canned our smoked meat in P.M. Went over too Albert's too see Marion in eve. Froze quite hard tonite.

Wed. Mar. 17
Dandy nice day. Mon hauled in feed in A.M. He helped Howard saw wood in P.M. I went too Decorah with Arthur in P.M. for a treatment.

Thurs. Mar. 18
Nice day. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped Mon put rings in the hogs noses & then took our tractor & hauled Arthurs up town to be fixed. He got back about 11:30 & then he took me too B.O. too W.S.C.S. Big crowd & a good dinner. Mama & I went too see Mrs. Koenig after dinner. Philip S. dehorned some calves for us in P.M. It rained in eve. Thunder & lightning. Luella, Anita, Iona & Pearl Darling entertained W.S.C.S. Got a letter from Isa & a card from Loyal.

Fri. Mar. 19
Not very nice early in A.M. Damp & drizzly. Cleared off later in A.M. Roger Krumm came over early in A.M. & split wood until noon. (He & Virginia have separated & he is staying at Arthurs) Arthur's came over for dinner (Ruth's Birthday). They stayed until about 2. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Arthur's bro't Danny over & left him in eve while they went too Decorah too the Show. They came after him about 12.

Sat. Mar. 20
Beautiful day. Very warm. We went too Decorah about 10:30. I took a treatment before dinner. Very large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Roger split wood awhile in A.M. He rode back to Arthur's gate with us when we went too town.

Sun. Mar. 21
Very nice early in A.M. but clouded up & was cloudy the rest of the day. Quite a little cooler. Mon took me too church in A.M. Froze hard at nite.

Mon. Mar. 22
Dandy nice day. We went too Decorah about 12:30. Mama went with us. I went & had a treatment. Mama got new wall paper & paint. Roger split wood here in A.M. We went too Decorah too the Show in eve. "Scuddy Hoo Scuddy Hay". It was sure good.

Tues. Mar. 23
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Roger split wood until about 4:30. Ruth, Danny & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M. We went up town a little while in eve.

Wed. Mar. 24
Dandy nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Had a treatment. Got home about 1. Had a lunch & went over too Arthur's. They sawed wood. Mrs. K. was there too.

Thurs. Mar. 25
Dandy nice day but mighty windy. We went over too Dean's in P.M. It sprinkled some in eve but cleared off & was very nice in the nite. Arthur's bro't Danny over & left him while they went too the Show.

Fri. Mar. 26
Very warm & nice until late in P.M. it got cooler & sprinkled some. Mon took me too B.O. in P.M. I went too Club at Lillians. Quite a few out & a nice lunch. Ruth & Danny rode home with us. Got much colder in the nite & the wind blew hard. A sprinkle of snow fell in the nite.

Sat. Mar. 27
Quite a nice bright day but chilly & windy. We went too Decorah about 10. Mon got a hair cut. I got my hair fixed & had a treatment. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile.

Sun. Mar. 28
Very nice day but somewhat cool. Rather windy in P.M. Mon took Lizzie & I too church. Mama came home from church with us. Arthur's were over for dinner. We took Mama home about 5.

Mon. Mar. 29
Quite a nice day only quite windy & rather cool. Roger split wood here until about 4:30. We went too Decorah in P.M. I had an adjustment.

Tues. Mar. 30
Nice bright day but plenty windy & rather cool. Roger split wood. Mon helped him off & on & Louie came over about 1 & helped until they finished about 2:30. Arthur's were over for dinner. His Birthday. They left right after dinner but we kept Danny & then took him home about 3:30. Clouded up late in P.M. Sprinkled some in eve & nite.

Wed. Mar. 31
Not very nice day. Cloudy, cold & windy. Sprinkled some in A.M. Dean, Iona & Mary Willson were here a few minutes just after dinner. We went too Decorah in P.M. I had an adjustment. Went up town a little while in eve.

Not too nice a day & not too bad. Snowed in the nite.

Fri. Apr. 2
Quite a nice day. Warmed up quite a little during the day & most of the snow went. We went over too Dean's in P.M. A tree fell on his foot yesterday & his foot is pretty badly swollen & is quite sore. We stopped at Albert's awhile on our way home too see Marion. Went up town on our way home too. Went too the dance in B.O. in eve. Quite a crowd out but they didn't seem too have as good a time as usual. Cool nite.

Sat. Apr. 3
Nice bright day but the wind was chilly. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Roger rode down town with us. Had an adjustment. Marion was down town so he came home with us for supper. We took him up town in eve & he went home with Albert. I went up too Mama's awhile. We came home early.

Sun. Apr. 4
Nice day. Rather windy & somewhat cloudy at times but it was quite warm. Dean's came over for dinner. We went for a ride in P.M. Down too the airport & then on too Decorah & rode around town awhile. Arthur's bro't Danny over in eve & left him and they went too the Show. They left him all nite.

Mon. Apr. 5
Nice day but windy. Ruth came after Danny early in A.M. Mon helped Arthur clean oats in A.M. He did odd jobs around here in P.M.

Tues. Apr. 6
Quite a nice day. Much warmer. We went too Decorah about 9:30. I had an adjustment at 10. Mon took the car too Bradley's too be checked & also too get a [air & visor?] on & they were so busy. We didn't get home until about 5. Mon went up town awhile in eve. It rained very hard in the nite with quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Got a letter from Isa.

Wed. Apr. 7
Not too nice in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. Mon went up too Ole's in A.M. & got seed oats. Dean & Gordon Willson were over in A.M. with Gordon's truck & got a load of hay for Dean. Mon hauled manure in P.M. Howard was over in eve. It got much colder in the nite.

Thurs. Apr. 8
Cold, dark, dreary day. We went too Decorah about 10:15. I had an adjustment at 10:30. Got my hair fixed. We went too Prosper when we came home from Decorah & then over too Macha's & got some seed corn.

Fri. Apr. 9
Quite a nice day but with a stiff wind. Mon hauled manure all day. In P.M. Ruth, Danny & I went too a "Stork Shower" for Charlene Haugland at Elsie's. Quite a crowd out. She got some very nice gifts. We had a swell lunch. Arthur's bro't Danny over in eve & left him all nite. They went too a party at Wayne's.

Sat. Apr. 10
Cold windy day. Really not so cold but just chilly. Ruth came over about 7 after Danny. We went too Decorah about 10:30. I had an adjustment. We left there a little after 2 & went up too B.O. & stayed until about 4. I went up too Mama's. Stopped a minute at Arthur's on our way home. We went up town awhile in eve. Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a real nice day only windy & chilly. We went over too Dean's for dinner. Had a good time. Went over too Arthur's for 7 o'clock waffle supper. Mon went over too Art Walters early in A.M.

Quite a nice day but chilly. Mon plowed all day. I washed & ironed.

Tues. Apr. 13
Quite a nice day. Mon plowed all day. Ruth, Danny & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M.

Nice day. Mon plowed all day. Roger was here all day raking yard. Mon took him home after supper. We went too Decorah in eve. I took an adjustment. Stopped at B.O. a little while on our way home.

Nice day. Mon plowed.

Fri. Apr. 16
Nice day only quite windy. Mon plowed in A.M. Finished up for oats & dragged in P.M. We went too Mabel & right back at noon. Mama rode over with us.

Sat. Apr. 17
Quite a nice day but rather chilly & windy. Mon dragged in A.M. We went too Decorah about 12. Mama went along. I had an adjustment. Mama came home too supper with us & then we took her home after chores. I stayed up there awhile. Dean's were over too B.O. so I played with Linda after I got down town. Quite an electrical storm after we got home but it didn't rain much.

Dandy nice warm day. We went up too Mama's for dinner. Claude's, Arthur's, Dean's & Philip & Nora & Parnell were there too. Had a picnic dinner & a good one. Had lots of fun with Danny & Linda. Looked rather stormy late in P.M. but it didn't rain. Warmest day we have had. Arthur was over early in A.M. & helped Mon awhile. We had another little calf this morning.

Rather rainy looking in A.M. but cleared off & was very nice in P.M. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. Very windy. Mon finished dragging in A.M. We went over too Art Walter's a little while at noon. Mon went up too B.O. in P.M. awhile. Got colder in the nite.

Tues. Apr. 20
Nice day but windy & cold. Warmed up some late in P.M. Howard was over awhile early in A.M. Mon got a jag of hay in A.M. & did odd jobs. He cleaned the pit in the hen house in P.M.

Wed. Apr. 21
Dandy nice day. Mon sowed the small piece of oat ground in A.M. & dragged it after dinner then started on the big piece. We went too Decorah in eve. Had an adjustment.

Thurs. Apr. 22
Rather cloudy in A.M. & started too rain at noon & kept it up all P.M. It didn't rain hard any time. Rained quite hard in the nite though. Mon dragged in A.M. Dean's came over in P.M. Iona washed the ceiling in the kitchen & some of the other wood work. The men went up town awhile. Got a letter from Isa.

Fri. Apr. 23
Quite nice at times & quite cloudy at times. Rained quite hard for awhile in P.M. We went too Decorah about 10:30. I got a permanent & Mon got a hair cut. It rained much harder in Decorah than it did out here.

Sat. Apr. 24
Quite a nice day. Mon seeded all day. Finished up about 4. We went up town in eve. Mike Blaess rode up town with us. I went up too Mama's just a minute. The W.S.C.S. had a food Sale & I was there for a while. We came home about 9:30.

Sun. Apr. 25
Very nice in A.M. We left here about 9:10 A.M. Arthur, Ruth, Danny, Dad & I went cross lots too Cresco & then on too Cedar Falls. Got there just before church was out so waited & found Shirley Erickson & took her out too dinner with us. She went for a ride with us then after dinner, about 4 miles west of C.F. We went looking for a dog but found no one at home so we took Shirley back to C.F. & then we went on too Renwick. Found that man at home so we got our puppy. [Sable ton?] English Shepherd. Left there a little after 3 & we hadn't gone far until it started too rain & it just poured down most of the way too Cresco. We came home by Decorah, but it hadn't rained out this way. Did have a hard little shower coming down Ernie W's. hill, but it didn't rain enough too make the roads muddy for Art's. Sprinkled some in eve & nite. Paid $15 for our puppy. Brought her home in the car trunk. Danny had a good time all day & was a dandy good boy.

Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Quite warm. Clouded up about supper time. Looked like a bad storm but it wasn't so bad. Thunder lightning & some rain. We went too Decorah about 10. I had an adjustment. We got home about 12:30. Mon dragged in P.M.

Nice day but quite windy in P.M. Got cooler later in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. He went over too Arthur's in P.M. & got the scraper & filled in ditches. We went over too Dean's in eve. Norman Fisher's were there too. The men played cards. We got home about 12. Cool nite.

Nice bright day but quite windy & chilly. Mon did odd jobs until about 10:30 when we went up too Mama's awhile. Mon went on too Prosper for her. We got home about 12. Mon plowed in P.M. & filled in ditches. I went over too Pearl's awhile in P.M. We went too Decorah in eve. I took an adjustment at 8. Cool nite.

Quite a nice day only rather windy. Ruth bro't Danny over early in A.M. & left him until after supper. They bro't Roger over at noon & he mowed the lawn in P.M. Mon fixed fence. We went over too Arthur's a few minutes in eve.

Fri. Apr. 30
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up late in A.M. & was cloudy the rest of the day. Sprinkled off & on in P.M. but not much rain fell. Mon fixed fences. He took me over too Arthur's about 12. Ruth had Club in P.M. Mrs. K. was there too. Quite a crowd out. We had a "Shower" for Phyllis Wanless. Had a good lunch. Mon came after me about 5. Rained quite a shower in the nite.

Sat. May 1
Not too bad a day & still rather cloudy at times. Rather cool. Mon cleaned out the cellar way & we hauled away the tin cans etc. & then went too Decorah about 11. Dave & Lizzie went with us. Quite a crowd in town. I had an adjustment at 1:30. Dean's were down in P.M. so I went around with them & sat in the car with Linda too. I got a new dress ($10.90) Marion came home with us too supper. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile.

Sun. May 2
Rather cloudy in A.M. & cold. Sun shone some in P.M. & was some warmer. Mon took me too church in A.M. Arthur was over a few minutes early in A.M. We went for a ride about 3:30. Went west too Bluffton & then north too Cold Water school house then south & west & north again too Plymouth Rock back again too Cold Water & home by Marion's. Had a nice ride. Lots of folks fishing at Cold Water.

Mon. May 3
Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Rained very gently in eve. I washed & ironed. Mon fixed fence all day. Finished up. We went over too Arthur's a few minutes at noon. Mon took me over too Inez's in eve too a meeting & then he went on up town. Got home about 9:45.

Tues. May 4
Nice day although rather cloudy at times. Mon fixed the pipes, too run the water across the road, in A.M. & plowed in P.M. We went down too Albert Emery's at noon too fix one of the pipes. Ruth, Danny & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M. We put the young cattle & the old cow & calves across the road late in P.M. 13 head.

Wed. May 5
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & rained all P.M. & on into the nite. Rained quite hard at times. Harry came over early in A.M. & said their cattle had gotten into our field so he & Mon went over there & fixed fence. Took almost all of A.M. Arthur's bro't Danny over about 8 & left him while they went too Decorah. They got their baby chickens. Ruth came after Danny after dinner. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. I got a letter from Isa.

Thurs. May 6
Quite a nice day but chilly & windy. We went too Decorah about 10:15. I got my hair fixed & had an adjustment. We stopped at Claude's a few minutes on our way home. Got home about 3:30 & Mon plowed awhile.

Fri. May 7
Nice day but chilly & cold. Mon took me too B.O. about 8:30. We stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way up there. Picked up Inez too. Fern came down too & we worked at the church basement decorating the tables etc. We got home about 11:30. Mon plowed in P.M. I went down on the creek in P.M. & picked some flowers & then up in our woods later & got some more flowers. Inez, Gloria & Joan came down about 5 & we went up in the woods & got some more flowers. Cool nite. Martin Abrahamson died late this P.M.

Sat. May 8
About 38º. Frost on the grass this morn. Not too bad a day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Started too rain in the eve & rained very hard in the nite. Mon finished plowing the one piece in A.M. He took Lizzie & I too B.O. about 12:30. The Joan of Arc entertained the "Mothers" at the M.E. Church. Had a nice program & lunch. Quite a few out. Mon came after us about 5. He disced in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile.

Sun. May 9
Rained very hard early in A.M. & until after 10. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Mon went up & got Mama about 11:30. Dean's came about 12:20. They bro't me a nice gift of towels & wash cloth's & Iona also made me a nice angel food cake. They went home about 4:30 & we took mama home shortly afterward. It rained hard again late in eve. More thunder & lightning. Cool day & nite.

Mon. May 10
Not very nice day. Dark & dreary & rained at times. Mon went too Decorah about 12:15. He was a pall bearer for Martin Abrahamson & he took the rest of the men from up this way. Mart & Bill L., Dell Mc. & Claude W. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over & spent the eve. They bro't me a box of candy. Rained in the nite.

Tues. May 11
Damp, dark, cool day again. Arthur's bro't Danny over about 9 & left him. They went too La Crosse. We went over too Albert's in P.M. too see Uncle Marion. He isn't very well. [Verne's Lena?] were there too. Arthur's were here waiting for Danny when we got back. Howard was over & spent the eve.

Wed. May 12
Not very nice day. Sprinkled & rained in P.M. Mon went over too Arthur's in A.M. & helped pull up an old fence & Arthur & Roger came over here in P.M. & helped haul in the rest of the [hay?] that was out in the field & put it in the barn.

Thurs. May 13
Not too bad a day & not too good. I washed in A.M. Mon fixed fence. We went too Decorah in P.M. Cleared off late in P.M. & was real [nice?] in eve & nite. Arthur's were over a few minutes in eve. Mon bought both of the babies a little red wagon this P.M. & Arthur's came after Danny's. They have parking meters in Decorah now & it was the first time we had been down too use them.

Fri. May 14
Very nice in A.M. Sun shone & it was quite warm. Clouded up about noon & then about 3:30 it looked like a very bad storm. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning & hard rain. Rained off & on in eve & nite. Quite a lot of lightning too. Lightning burned one of the electric lines in two over by Dave's. Howard came over & told us about it about 5:30 & we drove over too see it. It had surely burn some fire where it hit the ground & it still was burning whenever it touched the grass. Dean, Iona, Linda & Philip came over & spent the eve. Linda got her wagon. Last day of school so we went up too the picnic. Quite a crowd out & we sure had a swell dinner. Mon fixed fence in A.M. I ironed in P.M.

Sat. May 15
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:45. Maude J. rode down with us. Quite a crowd in town. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile.

Sun. May 16
Rather a funny day. Very cloudy at times with light sprinkles & then the sun would shine. Cool & windy. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too church in A.M.

Mon. May 17
Dandy nice day. Warmer. I washed & did part of the ironing. Cleaned the brooder house in P.M. Mon disced in A.M. & plowed in P.M. We went up town awhile in eve.

Tues. May 18
Nice day again. Mon plowed in A.M. & disced in P.M. He disced again in eve. Ruth, Danny & I went too a "Shower" on Beverly Rollins [Helt--?] at the M.E. church basement in P.M. Large crowd out & she got lovely gifts. Had a swell lunch.

Wed. May 19
Dandy nice day. Mon plowed & I started cleaning house.

Thurs. May 20
Dandy nice day. Very warm. Up too about 90 for awhile in P.M. Mon finished plowing in A.M. & disced in P.M. I cleaned. Arthur came over a few minutes in eve & helped Mon get the corn planter out. Got a letter from Isa.

Fri. May 21
Dandy nice day only somewhat cooler. Mon dragged. He finished about 4 P.M. & then got the planter ready too go. We went up town a little while after some groceries [etc.?] Ruth, Danny, Kenneth & Donnie were here awhile in A.M. Ken, Emily & the children are here visiting for a week or so. We went over too Albert's in eve too see Marion. He had a bad spell yesterday P.M. but was some better today. "Happy" & Dave Thompson's came after we got there. Cool nite.

Sat. May 22
Dandy nice day. Mon started planting corn this A.M. Dean's came over after chores in eve & we all went too Cresco. Big crowd there. Got back here about 11 & we had ice cream & then they went home.

Sun. May 23
Nice day but cooler. Arthur & Danny were here about an hour & then Mon finished planting that piece of corn. I went out & helped him roll up the [wire?] when he was through. Cool nite.

Mon. May 24
Dandy nice day. I washed. Mon disced in A.M. We went too Decorah about 1 P.M. Mon got a hair cut. I had an adjustment. Mon had the car inspected. We got our baby chickens 200 pullets & 100 roosters. Hilda Erickson rode home from Decorah with us. Cool nite.

Tues. May 25
Nice day. Rather cool. Mon disced all day. I did odd jobs. Did the ironing in P.M. Cool nite.

Wed. May 26
Nice day but cool. Arthur came over with his disc & drag & helped Mon. They both disced in A.M. & then Arthur dragged in P.M. Mon disced awhile & then he started planting about 2:30. Cool nite.

Thurs. May 27
Nice day. Somewhat warmer. Mon planted corn in A.M. & finished up. We went to B.O. in eve & then on too Decorah & got Verna. Pearl went with us. Cool nite. Dean, Iona & Linda were over & spent the day. Dean disced in A.M. getting a piece ready for soy beans. He & Mon put the plow & disc away in P.M. & did other odd jobs. Iona made 4 angel food cakes. I did odd jobs & played with Linda. Had another little calf tonite.

Fri. May 28
Nice day only rather chilly. We went up town early in A.M. got some chairs & the Club dishes. Ruth came over about 9 & made frosting for 3 cakes. Mon dragged in A.M. & went too B.O. in P.M. & then on too Spring Grove late in P.M. so he was quite late getting home (about 7) I had Club in P.M. 24 of us ladies & some children. Iona & Linda were here. Dean went too Decorah & then stopped again for them on his way home.

Sat. May 29
Rather cloudy looking at times. Not too bad a day & not too nice. Sprinkled a little in eve. We went up home about 9:30. Isa & Lester came up from Rock Island got up there about 4. We stayed there awhile & then they went too Decorah with us. Maude J. rode down with us too. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. Lester's came home too supper with us & then we went up town early. I went up too Mama's awhile too.

Sun. May 30
Rather cloudy in A.M. but it was quite a nice day. Mon went up & got Mama & Lester's early in A.M. & took them too the cemetry & then bro't them down here. Claude's & Dean's were here for dinner too. Arthur & Danny came after dinner. Ruth had too go too the church for awhile in P.M. & then she came over too. Philip came just as we were finishing dinner. We took the folks home after chores.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. We did odd jobs in A.M. & Mon dragged one corn field in P.M. Fred & Verna Falck were here awhile in eve. Lester & Isa went back too R.I. this noon. Arthur was here awhile early in A.M.

Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. Arthur & Roger were here a little while early in A.M. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. We went over too Dean's in eve. They had been fishing & so we had fish supper about 10. They were sure good.

Wed. June 2
Dandy nice warm day. Norris bro't Marion over early in A.M. Albert & Florence went too Cedar Falls. The men took me over too Inez Whitney's in P.M. too a "Stanley party". I rode home with Ruth & Danny. We took Marion home about 9. Little daughter born too Bernice & Maynard Newhouse early this A.M.

Thurs. June 3
Dandy nice day. Didn't do too much. Mon did odd jobs. Sharpened corn plow shovels. Got a card from Isa.

Fri. June 4
Very warm. Clouded up late in P.M. & rained in the eve & nite. Quite a lot of thunder, lightning & rain. Wind blew some. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. We went too Cresco in P.M. Harry & Vera went with us. I got a new dress. We drove out too Vernon Springs before we came home. Got home about 6.

Sat. June 5
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. I had an adjustment. Very large crowd in town. Clouded up in P.M. & looked rainy [then?] & in eve but it didn't rain. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Little son born too Merlin McCabe's early this A.M. Merlin has taken over most of the duties at Gene's since Gene's moved out on the farm.

Sun. June 6
Rather cloudy in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day only rather cool. Mon took me too church in A.M. He went over too Arthur's a little while early in A.M. We went too B.O. too the Ball game in P.M. B.O. & Ridgeway played B.O. won. Quite a crowd out.

Mon. June 7
Dandy nice day. Rather windy. Arthur came over about 9 & took the boar up to Ray's & then we went over there & Mon helped him load a hog too take too Decorah too be butchered. Ruth & Danny rode down town with us. We came home about 2:30 & on our way home went too B.O. too vote. We went over & got Dean's in eve & went too Arthur Wilhelm's Shower Dance at Matter's. Good sized crowd. Arthur & Sadie Gossman were married this A.M. We got home about 1:30.

Tues. June 8
Rather cloudy at times until in P.M. Cool windy day. I washed & ironed. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped Mon change the wheels on the tractor. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & started plowing corn in P.M. We went up town a minute in eve. Cool nite. One gas tank went dry this A.M.

Dandy nice day. Mon plowed corn. Roger was here in A.M. I had a "Stanley Party" in P.M. Not many out. Had some fun any way.

Rather windy & dark in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Arthur's came after Danny about 9. We went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. Went up town in eve. Went up too Mama's awhile. Dean, Iona & Linda were in B.O. Had some fun with Linda after I got down town. They bro't us a big dish of strawberries.

Sun. June 13
Nice day. Mon took Ruth & I too Church in A.M. He & I went too B.O. too the ball game in P.M. B.O. & Quandahl. B.O. won.

Mon. June 14
Rained hard early in A.M. & was cloudy for awhile but the sun came out later & wasn't too bad a day. Mon went over too Arthur's about 9. They had bought a power mower, together, & it was bro't out too Arthur's so Mon went over too see it set up. He did odd jobs in A.M. We went over too Arthur's at noon & then Arthur came over with his tractor & the mower & he mowed grass so we could move the brooder house. Roger & Danny came back with us. We took them home about 4. The men got the brooder house moved & all fixed up. Dean & Iona bro't Linda over here in eve & left her while they went too La Verna Berg's Shower Dance. She was married too Harold Rosen[baum?] this A.M. They came after Linda about 1:30. She was so good. McArthur bro't a tank of gas tonite. It sprinkled some in the nite. The mower cost $249.90.

Tues. June 15
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon used Clyde's digger on the bean ground in A.M. & plowed corn in P.M.

Wed. June 16
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 8:30. Mon got his soy [bean?] seed. Got home about 11. Mon plowed corn in P.M.

Thurs. June 17
Cloudy dark day. Started too sprinkled about the middle of A.M. & kept it up off & on the rest of the day. Mon plowed corn in A.M. He went up town awhile in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went too choir practice at Zoa's. Got home a little after 9.

Fri. June 18
Not very nice day. Mon sowed soy beans in A.M. & dragged them right after dinner. He took me up town about 1:30 & Inez, Fern & I decorated the Lutheran basement for the Father's day doings.

Sat. June 19
Not very nice day & still not too bad [with?] Sun shone some. We went too Decorah. Mama & Lizzie went too. Large crowd in town. Mama came home too supper with us & then we took her home after chores. The Joan of Arc entertained the Fathers at [at?] program & lunch at the Lutheran church in eve. Quite a few out & it was nice. We got home about 10:30.

Sun. June 20
Father's Day. Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day & nite. Not too much in the day time though. Mon took me too Church & then we went over too Dean's for dinner. Went too Highlandville in P.M. too the Ball game. B.O. & H. We came home before the game was over as it had started too rain more but B.O. was ahead.

Mon. June 21
Rather cloudy & rainy at times & the sun shone some too. We went too Mabel in A.M. & back there again late in P.M. Broke a tooth off & had too get it fixed. Got some berries for Ruth at [Rube?] Wilbur's in P.M. We took them over there in eve. They had, had Danny in Decorah all P.M. He had gotten some corn in his lungs they thought & they had xray pictures taken etc. We picked over some berries.

Tues. June 22
Quite a nice day. Warm. Although it did sprinkle off & on during the day with quite a hard shower late in P.M. One of our heifers had fallen in a sink hole & Clyde, Dave & Geo Mc. came over early in A.M. & helped Mon get her out. They worked until about 11 though before they got her. We went & took Arthur, Ruth & Danny too Rochester about 11:30. Got there, too the Colonial Hospital about 1:15 & they started working on Danny. Took X ray pictures but couldn't find anything & then they used the instruments but couldn't find anything in his lungs. Ruth stayed up there with him & we came home about 6. Brought the rest of Ruth's berries over here & canned them.

Wed. June 23
Nice day. Arthur & I went back too Rochester about 9 A.M. I was with Danny most of the day while Art & Ruth were doing other things. They took more pictures in A.M. but still couldn't find anything. We came home about 6 & bro't Danny. He has quite a temperature at times & was rather fussy. Too much noise & excitement up there. Mon plowed corn.

Thurs. June 24
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon plowed corn in A.M. & helped Arthur hay in P.M. We went up town a few minutes in eve. Stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way up. Danny is about the same.

Fri. June 25
Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & looked quite stormy then & in the eve but didn't rain until in the night some time. Mon plowed corn in A.M. Sid, Sue & Robert P. came about 11 & stayed until about 5:30. We went over too Deans, Albert's & Arthurs in P.M. They went too Charles' from here. Dean, Iona, Linda & Philip were over in eve too listen too the Joe Louis Walcott fight. Joe Louis won again.

Sat. June 26
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Quite a crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. Marie & the kiddies came up last nite & they were down town with Claude's. Went up town in eve. Went up too Mama's awhile. Olive, Marie & the kiddies, Dean, Iona & Linda were there too.

Sun. June 27
Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & it rained quite hard about 2 & from then until about 5. We went over too Arthur's about 9:30 & then we all went down too Claude's too see Marie & the kiddies. Marion & Gloria Ann were there too. Got home about 11:30. We went for a ride after dinner & ended up at Luther College where B.O. was playing ball with Nordness but it rained so they had too quit playing so we came on home. They had a 25th Anniversary celebration for Bill & Hilda E. this P.M. but we didn't go.

Mon. June 28
Rained most of the A.M. & on into the P.M. Cleared off late in P.M. & was nice but cool. We did odd jobs in A.M. Mon took me up too Vine's in P.M. too a "Stanley party". Quite a few out. We went up town in eve. Got a letter from Isa.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs & plowed corn. Got much cooler in eve. Was rather cool all day.

Wed. June 30
Dandy nice day but rather cool. Mon plowed corn in A.M. & helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went too choir practice at Zoa's. Dean's came too town just as we were coming home & they came down here a little while. Came after some rat poison. Lois Gjere was with them. Cool nite.

Quite a nice day only rather cloudy at times. Mon plowed corn in A.M. & helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. I went too a "Stanley Party" at Mrs. Leon Marlow's in P.M. with Vine's. Went over too Arthur's in eve too school meeting. Arthur, Roger & Mon went up town awhile.

Fri. July 2
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Mon was at Arthur's all day haying. Ruth, Danny & I went too Club at Dorothea Reid's in P.M. Had initiation. Mrs. Curt Marlow, Gloria Whitney & Burnell Snell joined. Olive & Luella Y. came back into the Club too. Quite a crowd out. Had a swell lunch.

Sat. July 3
Nice day. Plenty warm. We went too Decorah about 9. Roger K. rode down with us. Got the car washed & looked over. Got home about 3. Did odd jobs. Mon plowed corn awhile. Mon left me at Inez W's in eve & he went on up town. We had a menu meeting at Inez. I rode up town with Fern & Howard. Came home shortly after that.

Sun. July 4
Plenty warm day. Rather cloudy at times but on the whole it was a nice 4th. Looked very rainy & quite a lot of thunder & lightning about 5:30 but no rain & it seemed cleared off. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped us get a heifer in the barn, the one that fell in the sink hole. Mon went up & got Mama about 11:30. Claude's & Dean's were over & spent the day too. Olive & Iona picked gooseberries in P.M. Mon, Marion & Dean went too B.O. in P.M. too the Ball game. Philip & Mrs. Ruffridge came over in P.M. & they & Claude & Leonard played horse shoe. Deans left Linda here & they went too a Show in eve with Clyde & Edna. They came after her about 1. She was just as good as could be. Grandma Torgeson died in the nite.

Mon. July 5
Mighty hot day. Mon plowed corn in A.M. & helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. I picked berries, up in the woods, in P.M. Nearly cooked. We went over too Maynard Newhouses a few minutes in eve. Stopped at Art's a minute on our way home.

Tues. July 6
Mighty hot day again. I washed & ironed. Mon went over too Arthur's & got the mower early in A.M. & mowed hay all day. We went over too Maynard N's in eve & then on up town a minute. Cooler tonite.

Wed. July 7
Quite a warm day again although the wind was cooler. Arthur came over in A.M. & raked hay until after dinner. Mon mowed almost all day. Maynard N. & his hired man & Will Erickson baled hay here. They put 3 loads in the barn in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here awhile in eve. I picked berries in P.M.

Thurs. July 8
Mighty hot day again. Mon mowed hay in A.M. & helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. They baled hay here until about 10:30 & then went up too Ludvig's. They hauled 3 loads of hay too our barn in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went too choir practice at Zoa's. Geo. McIntire rode down too Dave's with us when we came home. I picked berries in P.M.

Fri. July 9
Very warm day again. Mon raked hay in A.M. & the men were here in A.M. & finished baling the hay in that field. They hauled our hay up & got it all in the barn. Mon helped them in P.M. They didn't get theirs all hauled. I picked berries in P.M. We went over too Deans' awhile in eve.

Sat. July 10
Nice hot day. We went too Decorah early in A.M. Got my hair fixed. Came home about 2:30. Did up my chores early & Mon took me too B.O. about 4. The W.S.C.S. had an ice cream social at the church in eve. Quite a crowd out. Cool nite. Got a letter from Isa.

Sun. July 11
Very warm day again. Rather cloudy at times but no rain. We went over too Dean's about 11 & then he & Linda went with us too Dorchester too a ball game. Iona & Philip had too go too church. We took our dinner along & ate it out north of D. Went back too D. too the game. B.O. played against D. & got beat. Quite a few there from B.O. We got home about 6. Had a good time. Linda was a good girl.

Mon. July 12
Hot day again although not quite as hot as it has been. Rather cloudy most of the day. Looked quite stormy & thundered part of the time but it only sprinkled a little here. Mon went over too Arthur's too hay about 10 & was there all day. I picked some berries in A.M. & Iona came over in P.M. & we picked again. She rode over & back with Maxine when she went too her mothers.

Tues. July 13
Nice warm day again. Mon plowed corn in A.M. but it was too tall so he quit at noon. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over awhile right after dinner. Arthur helped Mon change the wheels on the tractor & then Mon went over there & helped Arthur change his. We went up town awhile in eve. I went up too Mama's a few minutes. Ole rode home with us. I went up in the woods & picked berries awhile in P.M. Cooler tonite.

Wed. July 14
Nice day, but not quite so warm. We went over too Arthur's for a few minutes early in A.M. & then Mon went over too see Marion awhile. He helped Arthur hay in P.M. I worked most of the day getting ready for W.S.C.S. Cool nite. Little daughter born too Phyllis & Bernard Wanless this P.M.

Thurs. July 15
Rather cloudy most of the day. Looked like rain at times but we only got a sprinkle. Mon took me too B.O. about 10. Mrs. Gjetly, Mrs. Houdek, Hazel Harvey & I entertained W.S.C.S. at the church basement. Quite a crowd out took in about $50. Rained a little in the nite. Just enough too settle the dust a little.

Fri. July 16
Quite a nice day. Not too warm. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & got the mower & mowed thistles & weeds all A.M. He helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. I picked berries in P.M. We delivered Stanley goods in eve. Stopped a few minutes at Ray Hennings. Got an announcement of Loyal's wedding today. He was married too Helen Rahana at Chicago on July 3rd. Had quite a rain in the nite with thunder, lightning & some hail.

Sat. July 17
Quite a nice day. Not too warm. We went & got Mama about 10:15 & went too Decorah. Not many in town. Came home about 2:30. Went up town in eve. Went up too Mama's awhile. Our gas tank went dry tonite.

Sun. July 18
Cool. Quite a nice day although it was rather cloudy at times. Sprinkled a little in eve. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & they got the binder out & ready too cut grain. We went too the Ball game at B.O. in P.M. B.O. & Cresco. B.O. beat 8 to 3. I sat in Muriel T's car. Fern did too so we had quite a visit.

Mon. July 19
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon helped cut grain at Arthur's in A.M. & mowed hay here at home in P.M. He went out again in eve after chores & mowed until after 9. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here a minute at supper time. Danny didn't want too go home. Had quite a rain about 11 P.M.

Tues. July 20
Quite a warm day. Rather sultry at times. Cloudy at times too. Just sprinkled a little here late in P.M. but they had quite a shower at Arthur's. Drove them out of the field. Mon finished mowing that piece of hay about 10 & went too Arthur's too harvest. I picked berries in P.M.

Wed. July 21
Nice day. Mon harvested at Arthur's until about 3 & then they came over here & cut our small piece of grain. We went up town a while in eve.

Thurs. July 22
Rather a cloudy damp day. Sprinkled a little in A.M. Was quite warm in A.M. but turned very chilly in P.M. later. Mon & Arthur cut grain here & Roger shocked. Ruth, Danny & I went too Decorah in P.M. Left Danny at Krumms. We got home about 5 & then Ruth & Danny waited & the men rode home with them. Dean, Iona & Linda were over & spent the eve. Chilly nite. Got a letter from Isa. They finished putting up our hay today & got ours all in the barn.

Fri. July 23
Quite a nice day but cool. They finished cutting grain here about 10:30 & shocked the rest of the day. Ruth & Danny were here a few minutes late in P.M. Mama called late in P.M. that she didn't feel very well so Mon took me up there as soon as he came in from the field. I stayed all nite. He came home & did chores & then came back up town a while. Dr. Dalquist is gone so I called Dr. [?-son]. He came about 10:15. Cool nite.

Sat. July 24
Nice day. Somewhat warmer during the day but cool again at nite. Mon came up too Mama's about 7:30 & we bro't her home with us. She seems too be so weak. Lays & sleeps all the time. Arthur & Roger came over & they finished up shocking here about 9:30 & then they took the binder too Arthur's & cut grain there today. Mon & I went up town awhile in eve. Some men shingled Mama's house today. McArthur bro't a tank of gas in P.M.

Sun. July 25
Sprinkled off & on in A.M. & a time or two in P.M. but it didn't amount too much. Rather cool in A.M. but it warmed up some in P.M. Olive & Claude came about 2. Mon & Claude went too the ball game at B.O. B.O. & Decorah & B.O. won. They went home about 5. Cool nite again.

Mon. July 26
Nice day. Mon was at Arthur's all day. I washed & ironed. Mama is about the same. Arthur, Mon & Danny were here a few minutes at noon. Cool nite.

Tues. July 27
Nice day. Mon worked at Arthur's in A.M. Finished up at noon. He & I went too Decorah about 2. I got my hair fixed. Cool nite again. Mama seems too feel some better today. She has more strength she says. She sat up more during the day.

Wed. July 28
Nice day. Mon did odd jobs around home today. He went up too B.O. awhile in P.M. Quite a bad accident at Merle Smiths corner as he came home. Jimmie Keck ran into Jim Headington's car & tipped it over hurting Jim & Louie some & smashing up both cars quite badly. Mon went up town again in eve awhile. Mama didn't feel as good again this P.M. & eve.

Thurs. July 29
Not too nice a day. Cloudy almost all day. Sprinkled off & on in P.M. but not much. Had quite a shower in the nite with quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Howard was here awhile in A.M. & then Mon went over too Arthur's awhile. He took me over too Dean's at noon. Iona had a "Stanley Party". Not too many out but we had a good time & a good lunch. Mon came after me about 5. Mama feels better today. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. July 30
Nice day. Fred W. came over early in A.M. & he & Mon took our car & went out hunting either for some one too do our threshing or too buy a thresher but they didn't get either. Got back here about 3. Stanley Price came about 10:30 & stayed awhile. He went from here too Arthur's & then too Albert's. He bro't Marion over here just before Henry got back but he didn't stay. The Rev. Arnold's were here awhile in P.M. Marion stayed for supper. Mon & I & him went down too Monson's after chores & then we took him too B.O. & left him up there.

Sat. July 31
Nice day. We were over too Arthur's a few minutes in A.M. Went too Decorah awhile in P.M. We went up town in eve. Stopped & got Ruth & Danny. The Club had an Ice Cream Social on Gordon Reid's lawn for the benefit of the Cemetry. Quite a crowd out & we made quite a little money. Arthur came up so Ruth & Danny rode home with him. We came home as soon as the Social was over. Lester Bronner & Joe Wilhelm were here awhile early in A.M.

Sun. Aug. 1
Nice day but rather windy & cool. Claude & Olive came up for dinner & then the men went too Ridgeway in P.M. too the ball game. B.O. & R. but the game wasn't finished. Ended up in a row. Leonard came about 5 & stayed until his folks went home. 25th Wedding Anniversary party for Leonard & Catherine H. this eve but we didn't go. Cool nite.

Mon. Aug. 2
Nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & sprinkled off & on in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon helped Arthur hay until about 11. Arthur came over here in P.M. & helped Mon fix the granary. Mon went up town a minute late in P.M. Got a letter from Isa.

Tues. Aug. 3
Quite a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & looked like a bad storm but we only got a light shower. Arthur was over in A.M. & helped Mon with the granary. Arthur & Ruth went too Decorah in P.M. & they left Danny here. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. I made 7½ qts. of ice water pickles from cukes Olive bro't me. Got colder in the nite.

Wed. Aug. 4
Nice day. Cool. Mon went too Harry's about 10 too help thresh. Rather late when he got home & hadn't had his supper. Did his chores & then he had his supper. Arthur's were here awhile in eve. Levi Quandahl is threshing for these people.

Thurs. Aug. 5
Nice day. They finished threshing at Harry's about 9:30 & went too Howard's. Threshed theirs out & got over too Arthur W's & threshed some. Ruth went too Decorah in P.M. & left Danny here. Mon went up town a few minutes in eve.

Fri. Aug. 6
Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up but didn't rain. They threshed at Arthur's until about 4 & then moved too Ludvigs. Claude & Olive came up about 10:30 & got Mama. Art & Ruth bro't Danny over early this A.M. & left him while they went too Decorah. They came after him about 10.

Sat. Aug. 7
Cloudy day. Mon threshed at Ludvig's in A.M. They finished threshing there just after dinner. We went too Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed. They threshed at Ray Hennings in P.M. but we didn't know they were going to. We went up town in eve. Rained a little in the nite.

Sun. Aug. 8
Had a nice rain early in A.M. Quit about 9:30 & cleared up before dinner. Was nice in P.M. but quite cool. Dean, Iona & Linda came over for dinner. They went too church first. We went over too Arthur's a while in P.M.

Mon. Aug. 9
Nice day. Quite windy. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Prosper in A.M. He fixed some fence in P.M. & then went too B.O. awhile. The kids bro't Danny over about noon & left him while they went too Decorah. They came after him about 5. Mon & I went too Decorah in eve too the Show. "The Bride Goes Wild". Very funny. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning when we were coming home & after but only a sprinkle. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Aug. 10
Nice day. They threshed at Raymond Hennings today. Didn't get through until after 7 so Mon came home for supper.

Wed. Aug. 11
Nice day but it did look very stormy at times in P.M. but we didn't get any rain. Mon threshed at Joe Wilhelm's. They got through about 3 P.M. Mon went up town a little while after he got home. Ruth bro't Danny over here & left him in P.M. while she went too a party at Joyce H's.

Thurs. Aug. 12
Nice day but cloudy at times. Mon threshed at Raymond Halse's. Albert Lovstuen is threshing for the rest of us people. Mon came home rather late for supper. Dean's were over a little while in eve.

Fri. Aug. 13
Nice day. Quite warm. Threshed at Lester B's & Raymond Halse's all day. Dean came over & helped in Mon's place in P.M. & we went too Decorah. Mon got a hair cut. Got our meat & supplies for threshers. They moved the rig here late in P.M. Ruth bro't Danny over after supper & left him while they went too a weiner roast. They came after him about 11:30.

Sat. Aug. 14
Nice day. Quite warm. We threshed here today. Ruth helped me. Got through about 2. Dean was over & helped too but Iona couldn't come as she had straw balers too cook for. Mon & I took Uncle Geo. home about 3:30. We went up town awhile in eve. We got 12001 bu. of grain & very good grain too.

Sun. Aug. 15
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Dean's came over about 9:30 & we left here about 10. Went too Marquette & then on too McGregor. Went up on the Height & had our picnic dinner. Then over too Prairie Du Chein across the big bridge & then on up the river too La Crosse & then home. Got here about 6. Had a good time & a good ride. Car got too bothering just as we got too Prosper but we got home O.K.

Mon. Aug. 16
Rather cloudy at times & it sprinkled a time or two but still it wasn't a bad day. Quite warm. We went too Arthur's about 8 too thresh. Finished there about 4:30. They got over 1500 bu. of grain. Mrs. K. was up & helped too. Roger was over awhile in eve. Got a letter from Isa.

Tues. Aug. 17
Had a hard rain in A.M. with plenty of thunder & lightning & some hail but not enough too do damage although there were hail stones piled up in the wagon box an hour afterward. Ground was covered. Cleared off in P.M. & was quite nice. Mon went too Decorah about 9 too get the car fixed. Wasn't much wrong & he was home at noon. He went up town awhile in P.M.

Wed. Aug. 18
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & went too Calmar in P.M. too a ball game. Claude went with him. He didn't get home until after 6. Arthur bro't Danny over & left him in P.M. We took him home after supper. We went too Decorah too a Show in eve. "The Egg & I". It was good.

Thurs. Aug. 19
Nice day. Arthur & Danny were here awhile in A.M. & then Mon & I went down too Claude's & got Mama & bro't her up here again. Mon went to B.O. awhile in P.M.

Fri. Aug. 20
Nice day. Plenty warm. We took Mama over too Arthur's about 11 A.M. & we went too Decorah too the Fair. Olive & Claude were down there so she & I went up in the grand stand in P.M. Only about 3 free acts. Horse races & ball game took up the P.M. Not too good for me but Mon likes the ball game. The horse races weren't too bad. We bro't Danny home with us when we stopped for Mama & he stayed all nite here. Art & Ruth went too the Fair in eve.

Sat. Aug. 21
Hot day again. Ruth came over after Danny early in A.M. Mon & I went too Decorah about 12:30. Mama stayed alone. I got my hair fixed. Went up town awhile in eve. Rode around the [scenery?] coming home. Went from B.O. too Bluffton & home. Beautiful nite.

Sun. Aug. 22
Hot day again. Olive called about 5:30 that Marvin was in New Hampton too see if we would go after him so they Claude, Olive & Leonard came over here & we left here at 7:15. Got back about 9:45. Marvin looks very good & was glad too get home. Arthur & Ruth bro't Danny over here about 4:30 & left him. Phyliss Erickson & Ted [Green?] were married at Decorah tonite at 8 P.M. Ruth played her violin at the wedding & at the reception later at the Winn. Hotel. They came after Danny about 11.

Mon. Aug. 23
Very hot day & such a hot wind all day. Hot nite too. Mon helped Arthur [--??--] hogs in A.M. Dr. [Moore?] came about 11:30 & put Rex too sleep. I hated it but it was the best thing too do as he was getting old. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.

Tues. Aug. 24
Hot day again with a hot wind again. Plenty hard on the corn. Didn't do too much of anything. Mon had too fix some fence that the horses tore down. Roger came over awhile in eve. Hot nite again, although it did cool off the latter part of the nite.

Wed. Aug. 25
Hot day & nite. Mon went over too Arthur's awhile in A.M. & went too Decorah in P.M. Pearl, Darlene, Susie & the baby were here awhile in P.M.

Thurs. Aug. 26
Hot day again although it was rather cloudy at times. Dean & Linda were here awhile in A.M. Mon took me too W.S.C.S. about 11. Florence, Elsie, Aunt Alice & Joyce served. They had a swell dinner & a good crowd. We came home about 2. Marie, Paul & the kiddies were here a few minutes in eve. They are up here for a few days as part of their vacation. Hot nite again but cooled off some before morning.

Fri. Aug. 27
Quite a nice day although it was cloudy at times. Looked like quite a storm about 5 P.M. but it only sprinkled some. Just enough too lay the dust. We went down to Claude's & spent the day. Arthur's, Dean's & Dell's were there too. Had a picnic dinner & a good one. Had a good time.

Sat. Aug. 28
Nice day. Mon & I went too Decorah about 11:30. Quite warm down there. Quite a crowd in town too. Marie & the kiddies were down town & they sat in the car with me awhile. Mettie sat there awhile too. We went up town awhile in eve. Deans' were over & Paul's were up town so we all were together.

Sun. Aug. 29
Pretty warm in A.M. Clouded up in P.M. & was some cooler. Had quite a storm at nite. Started about 6 & kept it up all nite, almost. Looked terrible about 6. Got so dark & then never lightened up at all. Rain, hail, wind, thunder & lightning. Arthur & Ruth bro't Danny over about 3 A.M. & then they went on too Des Moines too the State Fair. Mon went too Quandahl in P.M. too the ball game.

Mon. Aug. 30
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon & Danny went over too see Roger in A.M. & then on up town a little while. We all went over too Dean's awhile in P.M. Came home about 5. Danny got sick on the way home. He was quite feverish & threw up once. He slept part of the time & part of the time we held him. I called Dr. Larson & he said he thought it was stomach "flu". Arthur & Ruth came about 8 so they took him home. They bro't us a watermelon & ½ bu. of tomatoes. We got some tomatoes at Uncle Georges on our way home from Deans. Had a letter from Isa. Our school started today with Evelyn Falck as teacher.

Tues. Aug. 31
Nice day. We went over too Arthur's early in A.M. awhile but Danny was sleeping. I canned tomatoes in P.M. Got 13 qts. of canned tomatoes & 5½ pts. of chili sauce. Another stormy nite only it didn't rain too much for all the fuss it made. Ruth called late in P.M. & said Danny is better.

Wed. Sept. 1
Nice day. We went over too Arthur's awhile early in A.M. Danny is up around playing. Mr. & Mrs. K. came while we were there. Mon took me too Lutheran L.A.S. & Mama too Aunt Mary's. Marie Jaarstad, Evelyn Underbakke, Pearl Rosendahl & Rosie Brown entertained L.A.S. They had a good dinner & a good crowd. Mon went over too Dave's awhile after we got home & then he got a jag of green corn for the hogs.

Thurs. Sept. 2
Nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. Had a big one too. Mon went too Cresco too the Fair about 11 & got back about 6. Cool nite.

Fri. Sept. 3
Nice day. Not quite so warm. Mon went too B.O. awhile in P.M. We went too Decorah too the Show in eve. "Tarzan And the Huntress". Not too good & not too bad. Got home about 11:30. Cool nite.

Sat. Sept. 4
Nice day. Quite warm. We went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. Olive sat in the car with me awhile. We went up town awhile in eve. Saw Floyd Arnold's & Carmen with her twins & other little boy. Cool nite.

Sun. Sept. 5
Nice day. Quite warm. Lester, Isa, Loyal & Helen came just as we had dinner ready. Henry & Lester went too Decorah in P.M. too the Ball Game. B.O. & Highlandville played a protested game from last Sun. B.O. lost. Aunt Eunice, Earl, Wilma, Larry & Neva M. were here awhile in P.M. After they left Loyal, Helen, Isa & I went too B.O., then too Dean's but no one home & then too Arthur's. Had supper & did chores & then went back over too Dean's. That is all of us except Mama. Lester's & Loyal's stayed up at Mama's all nite. Cool nite.

Mon. Sept. 6
Quite nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & looked quite stormy. We got a nice little shower was all. The folks got down here about 6 & we had breakfast & then they started for home. Mon went up too B.O. awhile in P.M. They took Claude too the Hospital this A.M. His lungs were bad & his stomach. Dr. said he had ulcers.

Tues. Sept. 7
Nice day, but rather cool. I washed & ironed. Mon went over too Arthur's in A.M. & helped him get his corn binder around. He went too Prosper & B.O. in P.M. Aunt Eunice, Earl, Wilma & Larry were here awhile in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here a few minutes in eve. One gas tank went dry this noon. Cool nite.

Wed. Sept. 8
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon was over at Arthur's helping get the corn binder around again. We went too Decorah in P.M. Took Olive down too see Claude. Dean's were down town too & I run around with Iona & Linda some & then I kept Linda while Iona did some shopping. They went down too the Hospital with us too see Claude. We got home about 6. Had a letter from Isa. Plane crash near Decorah about 9:40 P.M. that killed Bobbie Sattre, Tommy Knowlton, Doyle [Wagner?] & Robert Hoffman. They were burned beyond recognition. Only way too tell was by their rings etc.

Thurs. Sept. 9
Nice day. Mon helped Arthur work with the corn binder in A.M. & we took Olive too Decorah in P.M. Claude is much better. Rained quite hard while we were coming up the big hill but it had only sprinkled when we got on up this way. We went over too see Marion in eve. Dr. was there when we got there. He said Marion wasn't very good. Cold nite. Mac. bro't a tank of gas today.

Fri. Sept. 10
About 35º this morn. Warmed up during the day though. Mon helped fill silo at Ludvig's today. Dean, Iona & Linda were here a little while in P.M. They got some young chickens. Claude came home from the Hospital today.

Sat. Sept. 11
Nice day. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Took Mama too the Dr. Came home about 4. Stopped at Claude's a few minutes on our way home. He is pretty good but so thin. We went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Sept. 12
Nice day. Mon went too a Ball game at Decorah in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here a little while in P.M. Got cooler in the nite.

Mon. Sept. 13
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon helped fill silo at Ludvig's in P.M. He went up town a few minutes in eve. Got a letter from Isa.

Tues. Sept. 14
Nice day. Mon got a jag of corn in A.M. & helped Arthur shock corn in P.M.

Nice day. Very warm. Mon went too Decorah in A.M. & we went over too Albert's awhile in P.M. Marion is quite bad. We went up town a minute on our way home.

Thurs. Sept. 16
Nice day. Plenty warm. Ruth bro't Danny over early in A.M. & left him. She entertained W.S.C.S. today. Mon went over & got Arthur about 9:30 & they put rings in the little pigs noses. They shocked corn at Arthur's in P.M. Albert called about 1:30 that Uncle Marion had passed away so when Ruth came, about 3, she & I & Danny went over there for awhile. Dean's were over in eve.

Fri. Sept. 17
Nice day & plenty warm. We went over too Albert's early in A.M. for a little while. Went too Decorah about 12:30. Went down too the Stiene Fun. Home & met Albert's & Aunt Alice & went with them too pick out Uncle Marion's casket etc. Went up town in eve a few minutes. Went over too Central & called Warren & Helen too tell them of Uncle Marion's death. Warm nite.

Sat. Sept. 18
Nice hot day. We went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. Got a new hat. Went up town a little while in eve. Warm nite.

Sun. Sept. 19
Hot day again. Chas. & Helen came about 11:15 & then Arthur, Ruth & Danny came a little late. We had dinner here & then went too Decorah too the Service for Uncle Marion at the Stiene Funeral Home at 2 P.M. & then the M.E. church at 2:30. Very large crowd out. Went over too Albert's after the funeral. So many there. Had lunch. Got home about 6. Chas. & Helen stayed a few minutes, & then left for home. Dell & Mettie came just as we were eating dinner so they had dinner & then took Mama home with them. Had quite a storm in eve. Started about 6:30 & kept it up most of the nite. We went after Mama about 6:30.

Mon. Sept. 20
Rained hard early in A.M. Let up about 9:30. Was cloudy all day & rained off & on all day here & again most of the nite. We went too B.O. about 10:30 & met Deans & we went too La Crosse. It didn't rain up there but was cloudy all the time. I got a new black winter coat (49.50) & gloves & Iona got a grey coat & dress. Had a good time. Stopped at La Crescent on our way home & got some apples. Saw Howard Bradley there & went with him & had some "apple juice". Got home about 6. Had a letter from Isa.

Tues. Sept. 21
Not very nice day. Rained off & on during the day & if it wasn't raining it was misty. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over a little while in A.M. Came after the apples we got them yesterday. Albert E. came over about 11 & then he & Mon went over too Uncle Marion's house awhile. Dave was here awhile after dinner. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.

Cool morning. Not very in A.M. Misty & dark but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Mon helped Arthur in A.M. & we went too Decorah in P.M. Dean's were down there too.

Thurs. Sept. 23
Cool morning. Dandy nice day. I washed & did some of the ironing. Arthur's bro't Danny over about 9:30 & they went on too Cresco too a F.S.A. meeting & [tour?]. Mon & Danny went up town in A.M. awhile. Danny slept after dinner until just before his folks came, about 3. Mon picked a jag of corn in P.M. & went up town awhile in eve.

Fri. Sept. 24
Cool morning. Nice day. Warmed up quite a little. Dean came over early in A.M. & helped Mon do some work. They were over at Arthur's a few minutes & helped him load some hogs too take too market. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too Club at Bernice Newhouse's in P.M. Large crowd out & we had a swell lunch. Cool nite.

Sat. Sept. 25
Cool early in A.M. but warmed up & was a nice day. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & got the mower & mowed the beans. We went too Decorah in P.M. Went up town a while in eve.

Sun. Sept. 26
Dandy nice day. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too church. 8 or 9 young people from Cedar Falls College were in the M.E. church & conducted the service. It was good. They had a picnic dinner at the church for them which Ruth & Danny stayed for. Arthur came up after church. Mon came back home & got Mama & they got up too the church as it was out & we went over too Dean's for dinner. Mon & Dean came back too B.O. too a ball game in P.M. Philip left in P.M. for a fishing trip up into northern Minn. We bro't Linda home with us.

Mon. Sept. 27
Cool early morning. Dandy nice day. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & then Arthur came over about 10 with him & bro't the picker & they picked out 3 loads of corn. They raked up the beans in P.M. We all went up town about 4. Went up too Mama's house & she got some things she wanted. Mon & Linda went down town a few minutes while we were there. We had a good time with Linda. Deans went too New Albian fishing early this A.M. They came after Linda about 8. Brought their fish over here & dressed them. Left 9 or 10 here. Cool nite. Had a new little calf tonite.

Tues. Sept. 28
Cool morning but warmed up & was a nice day. Arthur & Dean came this A.M. & helped Mon take care of the pigs & then they bunched up the beans. Had Dr. Reide over in eve for the fresh [cow?].

Wed. Sept. 29
Dandy nice day. I washed in A.M. Mon did odd jobs. We went too Decorah in P.M. awhile. Mon went up town a little while in eve.

Thurs. Sept. 30
Nice day. I ironed in A.M. Mon did odd jobs. He took me up too Clara McCabe's in P.M. too a "Diana During" party put on by Lillian Smith. Got all puttied up. Not too many out but it was fun. Had a good lunch too. Rode back too B.O. with Lillian. We got home about 6.

32º this morn with light frost. Warmed up & was quite a nice day. Lizzie came over & went to Decorah with us about 10:30. I got a permanent. Mon went too a Ball game in P.M. Winn. Co. Farm Bureau against Ill. F.G. Ill. Won. We went up town awhile in eve. Cold nite. Had a letter from Isa. "Polio" is bad in Decorah.

Sun. Oct. 3
32º this morn. Nice day. Mon went too Decorah too the Ball game in P.M. Winn. Co. against Ill. again. 2 games. Winn. Co. won both of them. Loyal was in Decorah & came home with him. They got home about 6. Arnold's were here awhile in P.M.

Mon. Oct. 4
28º this morn. Dandy nice day but rather cool all day. We went over too Dean's about 8:30. Iona washed clothes. The men shocked corn. Had lots of fun with Linda. We came home about 5 & Loyal stayed over there. Went up town in eve too a church meeting. Gathered up some young roosters before we went. Had a letter from Isa. Little daughter born too Mr. & Mrs. Milt Schnitzler.

Tues. Oct. 5
32º this morn. Nice day only rather windy. I washed in A.M. & helped Mon pick & pick up a jag of corn in P.M. & then ironed after we got in. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here awhile early in A.M.

Wed. Oct. 6
Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all A.M. & rained quite hard late in P.M. & all nite I guess. The wind came up late in P.M. & blew hard all nite too. Dean's & Loyal came over about 10 & the men picked some corn before dinner & then more after dinner. Dean's went home about 3:30. Mon & Loyal went up town a little while late in P.M. A lot of rain fell tonite.

Thurs. Oct. 7
Rainy nasty day & rather cool in P.M. We went too Decorah about 11 & Loyal took the 1:30 bus from there home. Quite a few in town. It rained very hard for a while in P.M. Bought a new bed stead & springs at Buckton's today. $38.25.

Fri. Oct. 8
Quite a nice day but not too bright. Rather cool. Didn't do too much. Howard was here awhile at noon. Mon helped him an hour or so in P.M. & then he went up town a little while. They bro't our new bed up about 2 P.M. & set it up. Arthur & Ruth bro't Danny over about 8 P.M. & left him all night. They went too a party. Cold nite.

Sat. Oct. 9
25º this morn. Froze quite hard, froze ice on the water puddles & froze the ground some. Not too bad a day. Sun shone nice but it was a cool wind all day & quite windy. Mart Leonhart came up about 11 & went too Decorah with us. Large crowd in town. We went up town a little while in eve. Ruth came after Danny about 7 A.M. Cool nite.

About 32º this morn. Dandy nice day until late it clouded up. Rained a little in eve & nite. We went down too Claude's & spent the day. World Series Ball Games are on so of course we listened. Cleveland I. & Boston Braves. B. won today. Good game.

Mon. Oct. 11
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off about noon & was very nice. Mon picked a couple of jags of corn with the picker. Listened too the Ball game. Cleveland won so that ended the series. Had a letter from Isa. Harlan's have a new baby boy born the 3rd. H.E. Jr.

Tues. Oct. 12
Not too nice in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day later. Mon started plowing in P.M. He went up too Ray's & got the manure spreader in A.M. & hauled some manure.

Wed. Oct. 13
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. Mon went too Decorah in A.M. & got new plow lays & then he plowed in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over awhile early in eve. Mon went up town a little while after they went home.

Thurs. Oct. 14
Dandy nice day. Quite warm again. Mon plowed all day. I gathered & shucked walnuts in P.M. Arthur took Ruth & Danny too La Crosse this P.M. & they (Ruth & Danny) went too Hammond. Had a letter from Loyal & Helen.

Fri. Oct. 15
Nice day only rather windy. Clouded up late in P.M. & sprinkled a little at supper time but cleared off again after that. Wind blew hard from the south early in the nite but it switched around too the north & blew hard & got colder. Mon plowed in A.M. We took Mama too Decorah too the Dr. after dinner. Mon plowed awhile after we got home. Dean's bro't Linda over here in eve & left her & they & Mon went with our car too Matter's too a Shower Dance for Mr. & Mrs. Keith Foltz who were married today. They got back here about 1:30. Linda was as good as gold.

Sat. Oct. 16
Windy cold day. Sun shone some but it wasn't a very nice day. Mon plowed in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Wind went down in the nite but it got much colder. We got a load of coal this noon.

Sun. Oct. 17
15º this morn. Everything froze. Ice on the water tank. Rather chilly but was a grand day. We took Mama up home for a while in A.M. Stopped at Arthur's on our way up. He came over for dinner. Mon, Arthur & I went too La Crosse after Ruth & Danny. Left here about 3:30 & got back home about 6:40. Had a nice ride going up. Went through Rushford. That is a beautiful drive especially now when the trees are so beautiful. Danny was plenty tired. Slept most of the way home. Florence, Albert, Aunt Alice & Aunt Mary were here too see Mama while we were gone. Cool nite.

20º this morn. Warmed up in the nite. Wind got around into the south. Dandy nice day. Warmer. I washed. Arthur came over & they picked corn today. Florence came over in P.M. & I went over too her Dad's house with her a little while.

Dandy nice day. Mon went over too Arthur's & picked corn all day. We went up town a few minutes in eve. Cool nite.

Nice day. Mon went too Prosper in A.M. & over too Arthur's in P.M. & picked corn. Had a letter from Isa today.

Dandy nice day. Mon picked corn at Arthur's today. Albert, Florence & Aunt Alice were here for dinner. They were working over at Uncle Marion's place getting things straightened around so I had them over for dinner.

Fri. Oct. 22
Dark & damp early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day quite warm. Mon picked corn at Arthur's. He bro't the picker home tonite. Dean's came over about 10. Iona picked up walnuts & Dean went too B.O. awhile. They were here for dinner & went home about 1. Ruth, Danny & I went too Club at Elsie's in P.M. Quite a few out. Had a Stork Shower for Evelyn Underbakke. She got nice things. Had a good lunch.

Dandy nice day. The men husked corn here all day. Ruth, Danny & I went too Decorah a while in P.M. We went up town in eve. The Club had a food sale at Sheley's store. Took in over $50. Cold nite.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm during the day. We were alone all day. Didn't do too much.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed. The men husked corn here today. They broke down about 4 & had too go too B.O. & get a piece repaired. Mon took me over too Luella's in eve.

Tues. Oct. 26
Dandy nice warm day. They husked corn here today. Finished up the piece here north of the house. They had a Sale at Dave's selling what Uncle Marion had & some things from Dave's. We went over about 1. The men didn't stay long but I stayed until about 4. Mama had quite a lot of company. Annie Halse was here all P.M. & then others were here.

Wed. Oct. 27
Dandy nice day. Bill Leonhart came up early in A.M. & got the old hens. 105 of them. [L--- M-l--?] hauled them down for him. Mon & I went too Decorah about 11. Came home about 2:30. We went too Bluffton a few minutes in eve. Took a couple of old hens too Bill that got away so that made 107.

Thurs. Oct. 28
Dandy nice day. They picked corn here today. Ruth bro't Danny over after dinner & left him & she went up too the church too work awhile. Mon took me up too the church about 5:30. The W.S.C.S. had their ham supper & Sale this eve. Very large crowd out. Sold out everything in the line of eats. Fancy work sold good too. Carl Wennes & [--- ----?] Mon came up after me in eve. We got home about 10:30.

Dandy nice day. They picked corn at Arthur's in A.M. Finished up over there. We all went too B.O. too vote after dinner & then they picked corn here the rest of the P.M. Harry Truman won over Thomas Dewey in the Election.

Wed. Nov. 3
Rather a dark day but not bad. A little cooler but nice. They finished picking corn here just after dinner. Mon & I went over too Dean's after they finished & then he & Dean came back over here & got the tractor, picker & wagon so they could pick corn over there. We had a lunch over there. Philip is about the same.

Thurs. Nov. 4
Not very nice day. Dark in A.M. & started too sprinkle after dinner. Had quite a hard shower about 2 & then it kept on sprinkling the rest of the P.M. Rained quite a little in the eve & night. Mon went over too Dean's early in A.M. too pick corn. They had too quit when it rained. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here a few minutes late in P.M.

Not very nice day. Rained or sprinkled all day. Sometimes it rained quite hard. Didn't do much of any thing. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.

Quite a nice day but rather windy. It was cooler too. We went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. We sold the old sows & Charles W. hauled them. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped sort the pigs from the sows. 11 sows weighed 3465 lbs. at $21.00 per cwt & bro't $727.65. We went too Decorah a little while in eve & then on up too B.O. awhile. Cold nite.

Not too nice a day. Dean, Iona & Linda were over awhile in P.M.

Mon. Nov. 8
Not very nice day. Rather dark & cloudy, windy & chilly. Mon took me over too Clyde's about 10 A.M. The W.S.C.S. served lunch at his sale. He & Ray sold out everything. We sold most of our food. I got home about 4. Olive & Danny spent the day with Mama. We went up town awhile in eve. I went too the Show. "Swing Sister Swing". It was quite good.

Tues. Nov. 9
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day only rather cool. Snowed some early in A.M. but it all melted in P.M. Mon went over too Dean's early in A.M. too pick corn. They finished so he got home with the picker about 4. Dean & Linda bro't the car home after he finished his chores. They stayed a little while & then we took them home as far as their driveway. It was rather slippery so they walked in from there. Beautiful nite but cold.

Ground covered with snow this morn. Cleared off later in A.M. & was quite a nice day. Mon plowed all day.

Thurs. Nov. 11
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon plowed all day. We went up town in eve awhile. I went up too Zoa's too choir practice. Snowed in the nite.

Fri. Nov. 12
Nice day. Ground white with snow this morn, but it all melted during the day. Mon finished plowing here about 1:30 & went over too Arthur's & helped him finish up his plowing. Dean's bro't Linda over in A.M. & left her & came after her after chores in eve. Arthur's bro't Danny over in eve & left him all nite. They went too a party at Forrest Little's. Linda & Danny played a little but Dean's didn't stay long after Danny came. It rained & snowed some in the nite. Had a letter from Isa.

Ground covered with snow this morning & quite cool but warmed up some during the day & most of the snow went. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Mon got his hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Quite a crowd in town. We went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Nov. 14
Quite a nice day but quite windy & a little chilly. Claude, Olive & Leonard came up for dinner. Leonard went hunting in P.M. Claude & Olive went home about 4.

Mon. Nov. 15
Dandy nice day. I washed in A.M. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. We cleaned the hen house & did other jobs in P.M. Went up town awhile in P.M. Mon bought a little Sentinel Radio ($15)

Tues. Nov. 16
Nice in A.M. but sprinkled some in P.M. & then cleared off again after that. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. Dean helped him fix some fence in P.M. He went home about 4. Mon & I went over too Arthur's a few minutes just before supper. Our gas tank went empty this morn.

Wed. Nov. 17
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained some about 4 P.M. Nice in eve though. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped us get some cattle in too sell. Leonard Dow hauled them about 10. 7 head. Took them down too the Sale. Mon went too B.O. awhile before dinner. We went too Decorah after dinner. He went down too the Sale awhile. Nettie Lodgson rode home from Decorah with us. Got a letter from Cecilia today.

Thurs. Nov. 18
Rather cloudy all day. Wind came up late in P.M. & blew quite hard. Rained quite hard in the nite. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too W.S.C.S. about 11:30. Very good dinner. Marlyn Q. Genevra S., Inez W., & Valeda W. served. We got home about 1:30. Mon filled in the cellar way & did odd jobs. We put the pullets in the hen house in eve.

Fri. Nov. 19
Not very nice day. Rained most of the A.M. & some times quite hard. Mon went too Decorah awhile in A.M. He took me too Club at Muriel T's in P.M. Not too many out but we had a good time & a swell lunch. Had election of officers. Marlyn Q. Pres., Lillian S. Vice Pres., Treas. Evelyn Van V. I rode back too B.O. with Bernice N. & Mon was ready for home so we came right along home. Dean & Iona bro't Linda over in eve & left her here while they went too B.O. for a party at the Hall for Alan Q., [Sonny?] Mc., Jimmie W. & Johnnie H. who are home on furlough from the Army. They came after Linda about 1:30.

Sat. Nov. 20
Not very nice day but not too bad either. Cooler & windy & cloudy. We went too Decorah about 11 & got home about 4. Large crowd in town. Went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Nov. 21
Not very nice day. Snowed off & on all day but not much at any time. We were alone all day. Froze hard tonite.

Mon. Nov. 22
20º this morn. Not very nice day again. Cloudy & dark. Mon did odd jobs around. We went over too Arthur's awhile in P.M. Mon went too B.O. in eve too a duck & goose raffle. (Got 2 ducks). He went on over too Mabel after that too a turkey raffle but didn't get any.

Tues. Nov. 23
About 10º this morn. Warmed up during the day. Not too nice a day but the sun did shine for a few minutes in P.M. Wind in the south & it did thaw some. Dressed chickens in A.M. Mon took me too B.O. about 2 P.M. Myra Smith was 90 years old today & Zoa had open house for her this P.M. so I went up there for an hour. Quite a few there then & we had a nice lunch. Got home about 3:30.

Wed. Nov. 24
Not very nice day. Did a little of everything & not much of any thing. Pearl & the baby were over awhile in A.M. We went up town a while in eve.

Thurs. Nov. 25
Thanksgiving Day. Not too bad a day & still not too nice. Isa & Lester came about 4:30 A.M. Came on the bus & walked in from the 4 corners. We got up then & didn't go back too bed. Arthur's, Dean's & Philip, Claude, Olive, Leonard & [Marvin?] were here for dinner. They each bro't & we had a good dinner. Had a good time. Fun watching Danny & Linda.

Fri. Nov. 26
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Thawed some too so it was rather sticky. Mon & I went too Dean's & helped shred. Lester went too B.O. so that left Mama & Isa by themselves. La Vern & her children were at Dean's too.

Sat. Nov. 27
Quite a bright day but chilly. We went too Decorah about 11. Isa & I got our hair fixed. Quite a crowd in town. Came home about 4. We went up town awhile in eve. Cold nite. Dean bro't a "coon" too Decorah for us this P.M.

Nice bright day but chilly. We took Lester & Isa too B.O. about 12:40 & they took the 1:10 bus back too Davenport. Babe W. & Nora H. & Jerry Keck were here awhile in P.M.

Nice day. Mon went too B.O. a minute in A.M. Dean helped him in P.M. Ruth went too a Farm Bureau meeting & left Danny here in P.M. Dean's & Philip were over for supper. We had the "coon" for supper. They went home about 10.

Dandy nice day. Mon went too B.O. in A.M. awhile & we went too Decorah awhile in P.M.

Dandy nice day. We went over & got Albert & Florence about 9 A.M. & went too La Crosse. Florence & I went too see Dr. Smith about our eyes as soon as we got up there. Ran around town until about 2:45 & then came home. Had a nice day of it. Olive stayed with Mama. Mon took her home as soon as we got home.

Fri. Dec. 3
Dandy nice day. Dean was over & helped Mon all day. They cleaned out the calf pen & shed & I cleaned the hen house. We went too B.O. in eve too the first I.O.O.F. dance of the season. Quite a few out & had a good time. Good music. Got home about 1:30.

Sat. Dec. 4
Nice day. We went too Decorah about 11. Went down too McArthur's & bought a new Crosby radio phonograph ($300.00) with the trade in of our old radio & he gave us 12 records. They bro't it out & set it up about 5:30. Works swell. We went up town a little while in eve.

Sun. Dec. 5
Bad day. Rained hard all A.M. & until about 2:30 turned into snow & we had a regular blizzard the rest of the P.M. & on into the nite. Not too cold but a strong wind all day & nite.

Mon. Dec. 6
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day but cool. Mon went up town in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over awhile in P.M. They bro't some of their records over & we played them. Dean, Iona & Linda were over awhile in P.M. Iona's Birthday.

Tues. Dec. 7
6º this morn. Very nice day. Warmed up some during the day. I washed & ironed. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. I went over too Howard's awhile in eve.

Wed. Dec. 8
10º this morn. Quite a nice day but cool. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Large crowd in town. We went up town a little while in eve. Got my glasses from La Crosse today. Have too wear them all the time but they don't go very good so I don't wear them all the time. Caught up some pullets & young roosters this morn & Arthur took them too Decorah for us.

Quite a windy day. Nice & bright but with the south wind blowing so all day & nite it seemed so chilly. Thermometer wasn't down so low though. Mon went up too B.O. awhile in P.M. We went up too the dance in eve. Quite a few out & had a good time.

Sat. Dec. 11
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Got my hair fixed. We took 3 ducks down too [Holmberg?] & Erickson's & had them dressed. Got home about 4. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over in eve.

Sun. Dec. 12
Quite a nice day. Arthur's were over for dinner (Had 2 ducks). Ruth had too go too Decorah about 1:30 too practice for the Messiah. Mon took Arthur home about 2:30 & Danny stayed here until about 4:15 & then Ruth came after him when she came from Decorah. I went too Decorah with her about 6:45 P.M. too the Messiah at Luther. She played. It was very good & an enormous crowd. Got home about 11.

Mon. Dec. 13
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Washed windows on the outside & storm windows. Mon put them on in P.M. He did a number of odd jobs.

Tues. Dec. 14
Not very nice day. Dark in A.M. & started too rain about 1:30 & rained quite hard for a while & froze. Rather slippery. Had Dr. up too see Mama about 1:30. He said she is not very well. Danny is 2 years old today & Mon & I went over too see him awhile & then we all went up too Zoa's too choir practice. Got home about 4:15. Nasty night. Wind blew quite hard & it rained at times.

Wed. Dec. 15
Not too nice a day. Windy & snowed some. Mama didn't feel very well today. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Albert, Florence & Aunt Alice were here awhile in P.M. Arthur's bro't Danny over in eve & he stayed all nite with us.

Thurs. Dec. 16
Nice bright day but chilly. Iona, Dean & Linda came just before dinner & had dinner with us & then they went too Decorah with Mon in P.M. Arthur's came over after Danny early in A.M. & then they bro't him back again in the eve & he stayed with us again all nite.

Fri. Dec. 17
Dandy nice day. Mon took Danny home early in A.M. We took Mama too the Hospital about 10:30. Got back home about 12:30. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too Club at Alice Wilbur's in P.M. Quite a crowd out & we had a good lunch. Had our Xmas party. I got a box of home made candy & a handkerchief from Florence. We went too B.O. too the Dance in eve. Quite a few out & a good time. They started drilling their new well at Arthur's today. Rained & snowed in the nite.

Sat. Dec. 18
Not very nice day. Not too bad in A.M. but started too snow in P.M. & snowed quite hard at times. Mon went over & helped Arthur awhile in A.M. We went too Decorah about 12. Large crowd in town. Went down too see Mama awhile in P.M. We got home about 4. Plenty slippery on the roads. Snowed in the nite.

Sun. Dec. 19
Not too bad a day & not too good. Were alone all day. Too slippery too go anywhere.

Tues. Dec. 21
Not too bad a day & not too good. We went too Decorah about 10:30 & I did my Xmas shopping. Went down too the Hospital in P.M. too see Mama. She is very well satisfied & says she feels pretty good. Roads pretty slippery down toward Decorah.

Wed. Dec. 22
2º below. Very nice day but cool. I washed in A.M. Arthur helped Mon awhile in A.M. Mon took me over too Joyce H's. in P.M. Some of the girls gave a party for Shirley E. Had a very nice time & a nice lunch. Had a letter from Isa. Marvin got home tonite for his Xmas furlough.

Thurs. Dec. 23
Quite a nice day. We went over too Dean's about 10:30 & spent the day. Dean had too go sawing wood for a while in P.M. so Mon went too B.O. Iona & I made candy. Aunt Mina Price passed away this A.M.

Fri. Dec. 24
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. Finished up the Xmas shopping. Went down too the Hospital awhile. Went too B.O. in eve too the Xmas tree & program at the M.E. church. Not too large a crowd out. Cold nite.

Sat. Dec. 25
Nice bright day but cold. We were alone all day. Went over too Arthur's for supper (Oyster). Had a good time. Got such nice Xmas presents from all the folks this year. Cold nite.

Sun. Dec. 26
Chilly windy day. Wind in the S.W. Mon, Arthur & I went too Aunt Mina's funeral in P.M. Mistake in the time so we got there just as the service was over. Arthur was one of the pall bearers. Very cold at the cemetry. Mon & I went down too see Mama in eve. Had a new little calf this morn & it was so cold we had too bring it in the house & get it warmed up. Had it in the house most of the A.M.

Mon. Dec. 27
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Dean, Iona & Linda came over in P.M. Ruth & Danny were here awhile too. Isa came too B.O. on the bus about 6:15 & Mon went up & got her. Her 52nd Birthday.

Tues. Dec. 28
Not too nice a day. Warm. Dark & started too rain about 11. Kept it up until about 2 it started too snow. Not too bad until about 5 & then it did snow hard & from then on until about 7. Wind started too blow in the nite & we had a blizzard. Got colder in the nite. We went too Decorah about 1 & Isa & I went down too the Hospital & spent the P.M. with Mama. Mon came after us about 4, & we came home. We were supposed too go too Dean's for supper but it was too snowy. Had another little calf this morn.

Wed. Dec. 29
Regular blizzard in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Rather cool. Wind went down in eve. Didn't do much of anything. Mon did quite a lot of shoveling.

Thurs. Dec. 30
Quite a nice day. Mon finished shoveling out our driveway. We went too Decorah in P.M. Went down too see Mama. She is very well satisfied. Went up town a little while in eve.

Fri. Dec. 31
Quite a nice day. Didn't do too much. Went too the dance at B.O. in eve. Quite a few out & we had a good time.
