Wed. Jan. 1
About 10 below this morn. Warmed up quite a little during the day. Was a dandy nice day. Dean & Iona came over for dinner. They called from the Hospital about 11:15 that we should come after Mama so after dinner we all went down after her. She was a glad to get back up here & seems quite a little better. She sat up awhile after we got her up here & then laid down until supper time & then she got up too the table & ate supper with us. Dean's went home about 4:30.

Thurs. Jan. 2
Rather cloudy at times & blustery. Windy & chilly. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Mama was up for her meals & she sat up awhile in A.M. & P.M. Cold windy nite. The snow blew.

Fri. Jan. 3
12 below this morn. Cold windy day. The snow was on the move all day until late in P.M. the wind went down. It warmed up too about zero during the day. Nice & bright day though. Didn't do much. Mama was up & about as yesterday.

Sat. Jan. 4
About 20 below. Quite a nice day but cold. Warmed up again though. Mon went too Decorah about 11 & got home about 4. He went up town awhile in eve. Mama is just the same. Warmed up in the nite, but the wind blew quite hard.

Sun. Jan. 5
10 above this morn. Quite nice in A.M. early but clouded up about noon & was cloudy the rest of the day. A few snow flakes fell late in P.M. Cleared off & was a beautiful nite. Mon & Marion went up & got Mama's phone about noon & put it up here & then Mon & I took Marion home in P.M. & took this phone over for him. Claude's came over in P.M. so when we took Marion home we went on over too Arthur's awhile too see Danny. He is pretty good now only cross at times. Mama is gaining strength right along. Dave was here awhile in A.M.

Mon. Jan. 6
Dandy nice day. Warmer so it thawed some. I washed & did part of the ironing. Mon hauled up some wood in A.M. & hauled in corn fodder in P.M. Arthur was here a few minutes in P.M. Got a letter from Isa today.

Tues. Jan. 7
Dandy nice day. Mon & Marion went too Cresco about 12 & got back about 3:30. Mama is the same. Leonard was here awhile in A.M.

Wed. Jan. 8
Dandy nice day. Arthur came over after dinner & Mon went out too Gene Howard's with him & then they went on too Cresco. They got back about 4.

Thurs. Jan. 9
Dandy nice day. We went over too Arthurs a minute in A.M. Mon went up town in P.M. Clarence Ward died very suddenly this noon.

Fri. Jan. 10
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a lot. Quite a lot of the snow went. Arthur came over in A.M. & they tried too pick corn. They got some picked but it thawed pretty much too do very good. Arthur went home about 3. Mon hauled in some corn fodder after that. The Rev. Arnold's & Mrs. Emmon's were here awhile in P.M.

Sat. Jan. 11
Quite a nice day. Marvin bro't Olive up about 9:30 & she stayed with Mama & Henry & I went too Decorah & spent the day. I got my hair fixed. We stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way down & again when we came back. Leonard came after Olive about 5. Mon & I went up town a little while in eve & left Mama alone.

Sun. Jan. 12
Quite a nice day but got rather windy later in P.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here awhile in P.M. First time Mama had seen Danny. Snowed some in eve & the wind blew it around. The lights went off about 7:10 & was off for about ½ hr. & then went off again about 8:30 & was off until 3. Mon was terribly sick in the nite. So sick too his stomach.

Mon. Jan. 13
Not very nice day. Dark & foggy all day & quite windy. Got much more so late in P.M. Mon felt some better today but not too good. Rained hard in the nite & we had some thunder & lightning. Got cooler along toward morning.

Tues. Jan. 14
Dandy nice day. Quite warm & thawed quite a little. Mon went to Decorah about noon & got back about 4:30.

Wed. Jan. 15
Not very nice day but not too bad. Sun shone some but not too much. Started too snow about 5 & kept it up during the eve. Not too cold though. I washed & ironed. Dr. was up too see Mama about 11:30. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Mon was sick again in the nite & Mama didn't sleep very well either. I was up from 4 o'clock on with her. She didn't feel too bad but her bowels & kidneys acted so often.

Thurs. Jan. 16
Very nice day. Mon & Mama both better today. Alice & Florence were here in P.M.

Fri. Jan. 17
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & went up town awhile in P.M.

Sat. Jan. 18
Dandy nice day. Olive came over & stayed with Mama & Mon & I went too Decorah about 10:30. Mon went too a telephone meeting in P.M. We stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way home. Got home about 4:30. Mon went up town in eve & didn't get home until about 2:30.

Sun. Jan. 19
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Dean & Iona came over after church & had dinner here & spent the P.M. It snowed in the nite & the wind blew some. Mama was sick too her stomach in the nite & her bowels were bad.

Mon. Jan. 20
Not very nice early in A.M. Snowed & the snow blew. Regular blizzard. Cleared off about 10:30 & was nice the rest of the day until in the eve. It snowed hard for a little while & the wind came up & it got much colder. Wind blew terribly hard in the nite. Dr. came up too see Mama at supper time. She is feeling better today.

Tues. Jan. 21
About 12 below this morn. Cold windy day. Wind went down at nite though. Didn't do much.

Wed. Jan. 22
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & Arthur came over in P.M. & they picked some corn. Dr. was up too see Mama in P.M. He said she was better.

Thurs. Jan. 23
Dandy nice day. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. & then he went too B.O. in eve too Lodge with Roy. Mon got a hair cut in Decorah.

Fri. Jan. 24
Mon's 52nd Birthday. Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Very, very warm. Just like summer. Mon hauled up some wood & corn fodder in A.M. Dean & Iona came just as dinner was ready & then Arthur, Ruth & Danny came over in P.M. They helped too celebrate Mon's Birthday. We had sandwiches, jello & angel food cake in P.M. Iona did her ironing over here.

Sat. Jan. 25
Nice day. Olive came up & stayed with Mama & Mon & I went over & got Marion & we went too Decorah about 11. Stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way down. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 4:30. I went up too Inez W's in eve with Bernice & Roy too meet with the girls too plan the lunch for Roy's Sale. Mon stayed with Mama. Got home about 11.

Sun. Jan. 26
Nice day. We were alone all day.

Mon. Jan. 27
Not very nice early in A.M. Cloudy & snowed some but cleared off & was a dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went up too Roy's & got the manure spreader early in A.M. & then he cleaned out the calf pen, hen house & hauled out some other manure. He went up town a little while in eve. It got a little cooler in eve. Rev. & Mrs. Arnold were here late in P.M.

Tues. Jan. 28
Rather cloudy in A.M. & started too snow about 1:30 & kept it up the rest of the P.M. & night. Quite a little snow fell. Arthur came over in A.M. & they picked corn. Finished up in P.M. in the snow storm. The last of the corn picking for this year. Olive came up & stayed with Mama in P.M. & I went with Pearl too a "Shower" for Iona at Louise Gunderson's. Quite a few out & she surely got beautiful presents.

Wed. Jan. 29
Snowed in A.M. & the wind blew & then later in P.M. it snowed harder & the wind blew harder so we had a regular blizzard. Not cold though. Mon went up town a little while in P.M. Wind blew hard in the nite & the snow sure piled up.

Thurs. Jan. 30
Regular blizzard all day until about 4:30 it let up some & the sun tried to shine. Snow plow went past here early in A.M. & then right back again. A car was just behind it so someone must have had too get out. No mail man & cream man today. The car that followed the snow plow was Clifford Dawley & wife. They got as far as Arthur Smith's & had too stop there. A baby was born too them there at Arthur's. The snow plow came later & the Dr. got there & then they took Betty & the baby too the Hospital.

Fri. Jan. 31
Very nice day. Mon chored all A.M. He shoveled out the driveway from the garage too the road in P.M. & then went up town a little while. Mail man came today as the snow plow went through a couple of times & cleaned out the road.

Sat. Feb. 1
Quite a nice day. Got much cooler about 2:30 & was real chilly the rest of the P.M. & nite. Mon went too Decorah about 11.

Sun. Feb. 2
About 12º below this morn. Warmed up during the day but the wind was in the south so it was chilly. Mon went over too Roy's & helped awhile in P.M. He went up too Christy Foss's a little while about supper time.

Mon. Feb. 3
Not very nice day. Wind blew some early in A.M. & then it got worse later in the day. It snowed some & the snow blew. Hard wind. Thermometer went down too 10º below late in P.M. & eve. Wind blew very hard in the nite. The air was full of dust & dirt all P.M. & nite. Everything covered with dirt. Mon went too B.O. about 11 too meet with Clarence Knoke too hire a new operator at the B.O. switch. Guess they got Irene Foss so Gladys Peacock will have too go. Roads filled up pretty much again this P.M. & nite.

Tues. Feb. 4
About 12º below this morn & a hard wind blowing all day. Drifting snow again. Roy Halse was too have had a Farm Sale today but the weather & roads were so bad he postponed it.

Wed. Feb. 5
About 16º below this morn. Warmed up too about 4 above before night. Sun shone part of the day. Mon walked up town in P.M.

Thurs. Feb. 6
About 12º below this morn. Sun shone most of the day but it was cold & the wind blew & blew the snow. Mon went over too Howard's a little while in A.M. & then he went up town with them in P.M. Cold windy nite. Got worse toward morning. Regular blizzard.

Fri. Feb. 7
About 12º below with a hard wind blowing from the N.W. Snow blew. Didn't warm up too much all day although the sun shone & it was bright & nice. Pearl was over awhile in P.M. The snow plow went by here about supper time.

Sat. Feb. 8
My 55th Birthday. About 10º below this morning. Cold wind all day. Snow blew off & on all day. Olive came over in A.M. so Mon & I went too Decorah about 11. Ruth went with us so Arthur stayed with Danny. We couldn't get in there so she had too walk in from the road & we brought part of their groceries on home with us. Quite a crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 4:30. Mon went up town awhile in eve. Pearl & the kids were over awhile in eve. They bro't me a pretty handkerchief for my birthday. Mon gave me a purse & a box of candy.

Sun. Feb. 9
About 10 below but it warmed up a little but the snow blew & drifted some off & on all day. Nice bright day though. Mon & I went over too Arthur's a little while in A.M. & took their groceries over. Had too walk in from the road. First time we had seen Danny since Mon's Birthday. He has grown & changed a lot. We weighed him & he weighed over 11 lbs. He smiles & talks baby talk now & is getting more hair. Ruth took Mon's & my picture with the baby. They gave me a box of stationery. Iona went too Decorah this P.M. too stay until they got their roads cleared out.

Mon. Feb. 10
Zero this morn. Warmed up quite a lot during the day. Thawed some. I washed & ironed. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Arthur was over a little while in P.M.

Tues. Feb. 11
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Mon went over too Arthur's in A.M. with the tractor & hauled his car up town too get it fixed. He was home for dinner. He hauled up corn fodder & wood in P.M. He took Arthur up town in eve too get his car.

Wed. Feb. 12
Dandy nice day. Mon & I cleaned the hen house in A.M. We went up town awhile in P.M. Went up too Mama's house & got some things she wanted. Arthur was here while we were gone so he visited with Mama. Imogene Ginapp & Chas. Safford were married this A.M. at the Harmony Lutheran Church at 10. Ruth sang. Joyce played.

Thurs. Feb. 13
Dandy nice day. Olive came up at noon. The men all went too Jack Whalen's Sale in P.M. Mon went up town in eve with Roy too Lodge. A lot of the snow disappeared today.

Fri. Feb. 14
Real nice early in A.M. but clouded up & was cloudy the rest of the day. Rained off & on. Not cold though. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.

Sat. Feb. 15
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & was rather chilly. Looked quite rainy but it didn't rain. Olive came over in A.M. & Mon & I went too Decorah about 10:30. Very large crowd in town. Saw Dean & Iona down there & run around with her in P.M. Mon helped Dean buy a car. Chev. coupe so Iona went home this P.M. We got our new telephone today $31.92. Mon went up town in eve.

Sun. Feb. 16
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up again in P.M. Mon put up the new telephone in A.M. Dean & Clyde were here awhile in P.M. & after they left Mon went over too Marion's awhile.

Mon. Feb. 17
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & started too snow about 10. Snowed off & on during the day, but not much melted about as fast as it fell, until later in P.M. it cleared off & got colder. Mon went down & got Olive about 9:45 & she came up & stayed with Mama while I went too Roy's Sale. Very large crowd out & every thing went good. The W.S.C.S. served & we did very well. Cleared around $90. I came home about 4. Babe W. & Maude J. were here when I got home. Claude came up too the Sale so Olive went home with him. Got much colder in the nite.

Tues. Feb. 18
About 10º below. Nice bright day with quite a breeze but cold. I washed & ironed. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.

Wed. Feb. 19
Some warmer today. Nice & bright. Mon & I went over too Arthur's a little while in P.M. He took the tractor & wagon too get the hog shute so I rode in the wagon. Danny has grown & changed so much.

Thurs. Feb. 20
Quite a nice day, but cool. Mon went to Decorah awhile in P.M. Got a hair cut. Arthur & Ruth went too Cresco in P.M. & left Danny here. Had a good time with him. Mon went too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Feb. 21
Nice bright cool day. Leonard Dow came about 10:45 & then he hauled 2 loads of hogs too Decorah for us. Mon went with him with the first load & then he went with our car with the second load & spent the P.M. down town. Arthur & Ruth went too Decorah in P.M. & bro't Danny over here again. Dean & Iona were here & spent the P.M. so we did have a good time. Mon got home early. Had a lunch before the kids went home. Maxine came while we were eating so she ate with us. Arthur & Ruth got a baby bed for Danny & Mon hauled it home so we took Danny home a little after 5. Sold 35 hogs too Hormels that weighed 7440 @ $26.25 per cwt & brot $1952.88 & 18 smaller ones at the Winn. Co'op which weighed 2530 lbs. @ $30.00 per cwt & they bro't $722.38. The feeder pigs had too be vaccinated etc & that took out $36.62. Mon left one hog at Wepler's too be butchered.

Sat. Feb. 22
Rather blustery & snowy at times & still the sun shone part of the day. Olive came up & stayed with Mama & we went too Decorah about 11. Marvin rode down with us. I got my hair fixed. Very large crowd in town. Chilly down there. Stopped at Weplers on our way home & got our meat & lard. Stopped at Arthur's a minute too. Mon went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Feb. 23
Not very nice day. Blustery & stormy with quite a hard wind all day. Didn't do much of anything but sit around all day.

Mon. Feb. 24
Not a very nice day but a little warmer. The sun shone a little but it snowed off & on all day & the wind blew quite hard. Mon went over too Dell's about 11 & got a stock hog. Roy hauled it over here for him.

Tues. Feb. 25
Blustery day again. Sun shone some but it snowed off & on & the wind blew all day & nite. Not too cold though. We worked at the meat all day, cutting up lard & grinding it & trying it out. Making sausage & doing all such. Mon went up town awhile in eve.

Wed. Feb. 26
Blustery day again. Not too cold though. Finished up the lard today. Got about 6 gal. Mama didn't feel very well all nite.

Thurs. Feb. 27
Dandy nice day. I washed. Dean called early this A.M. & said they had a new baby girl born about 3 this A.M. He & Philip came over about 10 & stayed for dinner. Arthur came over awhile in A.M. & then Dean took the tractor & took the hog shute back too Arthur's. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. & I went down too the Hospital with Dean & Philip too see Iona & baby. Iona is fine & baby is nice. Pearl stayed with Mama while we were gone. Mama didn't feel very well today. She was in bed all day. Iona thought she would call the baby Linda Carol. She weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz.

Fri. Feb. 28
Quite nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & snowed a little but cleared off again in eve & was nice but cold. Pearl & Susie were here awhile in A.M. Mon hauled up some corn fodder. He took Howard too Mabel at noon. Came back & took Ruth, Danny & I too Club at Laura Berg's & then he went on too Decorah & came back that way for us from town. Quite a few out too Club & we sure had a swell lunch. Had a Shower for Evelyn Van Vliet. She got some nice things. We got home about 5:30. Mon had a flat tire just as he got up too Laura's so he had too change tires. Lizzie stayed with Mama. Ruth & I went up too the Church in eve too a Shower for Mr. & Mrs. Adrian Quamm. Large crowed out. We just stayed for the program. Ruth was in that.

Sat. Mar. 1
Not too bad a day but not too nice either at times. Snowed quite hard at times in P.M. & eve but not much snow fell either. Olive came over & stayed with Mama & we went too town. Went over & got Marion & he went with us. Mon & I went down too see Iona & the baby in P.M. Ruth bro't Danny over & left him with Olive & they went too Decorah too. Mon went up town early in A.M. & got the tire fixed & then he went up town in eve. Verna rode up town with him in eve.

Sun. Mar. 2
Quite a nice day. Dean came over for dinner & then went to Decorah in P.M.

Mon. Mar. 3
Not very nice early in A.M. Rather blustery but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Dean came over in A.M. & brought their dirty clothes. He helped Mon clean out the hen house & haul up a jag of wood. He went too Decorah in P.M. & Mon went up town a while.

Tues. Mar. 4
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon & Marion went too Cresco in P.M. Dean came over in eve & got their clothes.

Wed. Mar. 5
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Olive came up early in A.M. & we left here about 9:20. Stopped & got Arthur & Ruth & went too La Crosse & spent the day. Had a good time looking around. Didn't buy much. Left there about 4 & got home about 5:30. I went over too Howard's awhile in eve. Sonny's Birthday. Clyde & Edna had twin babies this eve, boy & girl, but the girl was born dead. Edna & the boy are O.K.

Thurs. Mar. 6
Dandy nice day. Mon hauled in some cord fodder in A.M. Dean came over for dinner. He & Mon & Marion went too Decorah in P.M. Arthur was over in eve awhile. Emil Hellum passed away tonite.

Fri. Mar. 7
Not such a nice day. Looked quite stormy in A.M. Did clear off some in P.M. & the sun shone some. Snowed off & on a times in P.M. & again in eve but it didn't last. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. too help him sort some pigs. Dean came over for dinner. We went too Decorah in P.M. & brought Iona & Linda home. We took Iona & baby too their gate in our car & then we rode in with Dean all except Mon. He walked in. We stayed over there awhile too help get the bottles & food ready. Pearl stayed with Mama. Howard was over & spent the eve.

Sat. Mar. 8
Quite a nice day. Olive came over & stayed with Mama & we went too Decorah. Marion went along with us. Got my hair fixed. I went up too Gladys A's in eve & Mon went up town. Some of us met there too plan the lunch for their Sale. Got home about 11. Mama stayed alone.

Sun. Mar. 9
Quite a nice day & still it did look stormy at times. Howard & Allen Q. were here awhile in P.M.

Mon. Mar. 10
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy nice day. Mon hauled in some corn fodder in A.M. Ruth & I went too School Election at the school house in P.M. Mon stayed with Mama. Only Joe, Harry & Hjalmer there besides Ruth & I. We put Joe & Hjalmer back in again as directors.

Tues. Mar. 11
Not very nice early in A.M. & then it cleared off & was nice until later in P.M. it clouded up & looked quite rainy. We took Mama too Decorah too the Dr. about 2:30. Wasn't gone only about 1½ hrs. but Dean, Iona & Linda came while we were gone. I was so disappointed. Emil Hellum was buried today.

Wed. Mar. 12
Not very nice day. Rained & snowed off & on all day. Rained quite hard at times. Mon took Marion too Decorah. Florence Taylor Baker died tonite.

Thurs. Mar. 13
Not very nice day but not cold. Rained & snowed, & snowed quite hard at times, in A.M. brightened up some in P.M. Got quite a lot colder late in P.M. Mon & Howard went too New Hampton today. Mon is looking for a new Hudson. He went up town in eve with Roy.

Fri. Mar. 14
Nice at times during the day & we did have some quite hard snow showers at times too. Quite cool compared too what we have been having. I washed & ironed. Mon hauled up a jag of wood in A.M. & cleaned the hen house in P.M. Arthur was here awhile in P.M. Howard was over in eve. Cool nite. Patsy Kimber & "Bud" Haugland were married this eve.

Sat. Mar. 15
Not too bad a day but chilly. Olive & Leonard came up in A.M. & Mon & I went too Decorah. Mon got a hair cut. We got our hams & bacon from Weplers $4.16. Leonard chopped some wood for us in P.M. Mon & I went up town awhile in eve. Verna went along with us. Mon & I went over too see Gust & Kate a while. Florence Baker was buried this P.M. Cool nite.

Sun. Mar. 16
About 6 above this morn. Nice day. Warmed up some. Dell & Mettie were here & spent the P.M. Lester Bronner & Ethel Halse were here awhile at supper time.

Mon. Mar. 17
Dandy nice day but the wind was cool. Mon went up too Ole Albertson's Sale in P.M. awhile & then he went on up town awhile. We went over too Dean's awhile in eve. Linda has grown quite a little. She didn't wake up at all while we were there.

Tues. Mar. 18
Nice day. Had a few snow showers but it didn't last. Melted as fast as it fell & then the sun came out again. Arthur & Ruth brought Danny over about 11 & left him. Ruth went too Decorah. They came back after him about 5:30. We had a good time with him. Harry Q. was here awhile in A.M. Babe & Nora were here in P.M. & they had just left when Florence, Albert & Aunt Alice came & they stayed until about 6. Mon went up town a little while in P.M. Little daughter born to Evelyn & Harry Van Vleit very early this morning.

Wed. Mar. 19
Nice day. Thawed quite a little. Dean & Iona came over about 9 & left Linda here & went too La Crosse with Mon. Howard went too. They got back about 3:45. Linda was a good baby. Mon ordered a new Hudson today.

Thurs. Mar. 20
Not too nice a day & not too bad. Rather cloudy at times. Started too snow about 5:30 & kept it up during the eve. Not too hard though. Warm. I washed & ironed. Arthur came over in A.M. & Mon went with him too take Mama's oil heater back too her house. Art & Ruth got a new one. They got back here about 11:30. Mon went over too Marion's in P.M. & then they went on up town. Dean was here awhile in P.M.

Fri. Mar. 21
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day. Thawed some of our snow. Leonard came up in P.M. & chopped wood for awhile. Mon was over too Howard's awhile in P.M. The R.E.A. were there & blasted the ground & set in their light pole etc. Maxine was here a little while after school.

Sat. Mar. 22
Quite a nice day. Thawed a lot. Olive & Leonard came up & Mon & I went too Decorah. I went too Dr. as soon as I got down town & had a cyst taken out of my finger. Had a permanent today. Large crowd in town. We got home about 5:30. Leonard cut wood in P.M. Mon & I went up town a little while in eve. Quite a lot of lightning when we were coming home. Just [heat?] lightning I guess, as the sky was full of stars.

Sun. Mar. 23
Beautiful day until late in P.M. it clouded up started too sprinkle about 6 & then later we had quite an electrical storm & it rained very hard. Turned too snow in the nite. Mon took me over too Bertha Benders corner about 10 A.M. & I went from there too Locust too church with Philip & Lelia. Dean & Iona had Linda baptized. Lelia, Stanley & I were sponsers. Went too Dean's for dinner then. Rev. & Mrs. Losen were there too. Had a swell dinner & then lunch before we left. Dean bro't me home about 5.

Mon. Mar. 24
Not too nice a dandy. Quite a little cooler than yesterday but still not too cold. Wind blew hard. Dean came over about 11 & he & Mon cleaned the cistern in P.M. Wind came up in the nite & it sure did blow hard & got much colder.

Tues. Mar. 25
Cold & terribly windy. The sun shone some & we had some quite hard snow showers during the day. Mon went & got Lizzie about 1 P.M. & she stayed with Mama while we went too Decorah. Dr. took the stitch out of my finger. I got a new pair of every day shoes & overshoes. We got home about 4. The wind went down some with the sun & more in the nite.

12º above this morn. Everything froze hard. Quite a nice day but cool although it did warm up some. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & cleaned the hen house in P.M. & then went up town awhile. Leonard cut wood here in P.M. & was here for supper. Zoa was here awhile in P.M.

12º above & froze up again. Warmed up during the day. Was quite a nice day. Mon went up town in A.M. & then went over too Ray Halse's in P.M. & helped put plaster board on the sitting room. Philip S. dehorned our claves in the A.M.

Fri. Mar. 28
Not too bad a day but still not too nice. Mon went too B.O. early in A.M. too get the gas tank on the car fixed & was up there all day. Verna & Darlene were here awhile in eve. It rained quite hard in eve for awhile & then it got colder & the wind came up.

Sat. Mar. 29
Cold windy day although the sun shone some. Olive & Leonard came up & we went too Decorah about 10:30. Large crowd in town. We went up town awhile in eve. Went over too see Gust awhile. Raymond, Ruby & the girls rode home with us.

Warmed up today. Was quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up later. Started too snow about 11:30 & snowed quite hard until about 2:30. About 3 inches fell. Rained in the nite. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were over for dinner. Arthur's Birthday. Ethel Halse was here awhile in A.M. Howard was here awhile in P.M. Chas. Reed died this P.M.

Mon. Mar. 31
Not very nice day. Rained almost all day. Not hard all the time but we did have some rather hard showers. Rained all nite I guess. Took all our fresh snow. Mon went over too Arthurs about 1 too help him load some hogs & then he went on up town awhile.

Not very nice day. Rained all day, not too hard but just damp all day. Not cold. Mon cleaned out the calf pen & in P.M. he helped me awhile cutting up the hams & I put them in jars.

Wed. Apr. 2
Not too nice day but not too bad either. Sun did shine a little. Sure is plenty muddy. The barn yard is awful. Mon went too Decorah about 12. He was pall bearer for Chas. Reed. The funeral was at the Winn. Burial Ass. at 1 & at the B.O.M.E. church at 2.

Thurs. Apr. 3
Not too nice a day but not too bad. Sun didn't shine. I washed & ironed. Arthur was here awhile at noon. Mon went up town in P.M. Started too rain about 7:30 P.M. & kept it up all nite.

Fri. Apr. 4
Not very nice day. Rained almost all day. Not hard at times but a drizzle part of the time. Plenty of mud. Had a new little calf this morning but had too have Dr. K. in P.M. for the little mother. A couple of men were here from Halverson's Electric Shop in P.M. & fixed our yard light. Arthur came about 3:30 A.M. & got our car & went too Calmar after a couple of Ruth's friends. It was raining very hard & their car leaks. He bro't it back about 10:30. Rained all nite.

Sat. Apr. 5
Rained all A.M. & at times quite hard. Olive & Leonard came up in the rain so Mon & I went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. It cleared off for a while in P.M. & the sun shone, but it started too rain again in eve & kept it up during the nite & then it turned too snow & the wind blew terribly hard. Mon took Olive home about 5:45 or rather down too their driveway. Their road is too muddy too drive over. The mud is terrible.

Sun. Apr. 6
Easter. Not a very nice day. Snowed early in A.M. but quit & was a dark dreary day. Got colder late in P.M. Mon went up town a little while in A.M. He took me over too Arthur's gate about 2 P.M. & I walked on the rest of the way. Mr. & Mrs. K. were there & they had quite a music session. It was good. Danny has grown a lot. Mon met me out at the road again about 4. Froze quite a little tonite.

About 22º this morn. A little better day but not too good. The sun did shine for a while in A.M. but it clouded up again & was dark the rest of the day. Snowed some in the nite. Mon got a jag of corn fodder early in A.M. as it was froze up some. Arthur came over about 9:30 & got our car. The girls were going back too Hammond & Ruth & Arthur took them back too Calmar. Arthur bro't the car back about 3:30. We cleaned the hen house in A.M. Verna was here in P.M. Addie Thorson died this A.M.

Tues. Apr. 8
Not very nice day. Rained & snowed but not hard. Not cold. Marion came over for dinner & stayed until about 4:30.

Wed. Apr. 9
Not a very nice day & still not too bad. Sun did shine a little. Marion called early in A.M. that he was sick & wanted Mon too take him too Decorah too the Dr. Howard Q. bro't him too the top of Fritz's hill & Mon met him part way. (The road is so bad up the hill that it is impassable) about 8:30 & they went too Decorah. Mon got home about 12:30. The Dr. wanted Marion too go too the Hospital but he didn't want to so as Albert was down town Marion went home with him. His heart was bad & his blood pressure was very low. Arthur & Ruth went too Decorah in P.M. & left Danny with us. We had a good time. Had a hard storm in the nite. Thunder, lightning & hard rain.

Thurs. Apr. 10
Not a very nice day. Rained early in A.M. & again in the nite. Wind blew quite hard. I rode out too the pavement about 12:45 with Howard's & went from there too Decorah with Zoa. Aunt Alice & Katherine Morrison were along. We went too Addie Thorson's Funeral at the Olson Iverson Funeral Home. Not many out. She was buried at Castalia but we didn't go down there. We went down too the Hospital & visited a minute each with Mary Safford, Chas. Burgess, Martin Abrahamson & Mrs. Koenig. I went on too B.O. with Zoa & Mon came up & got me. Dean was over home awhile in P.M. Mon went up town in eve. We had another little calf this A.M.

Fri. Apr. 11
Not very nice day. Rained & sprinkles of snow off & on all day. Not cold but it did get colder late in P.M. It snowed enough too cover the ground in the nite. Didn't do much of anything.

Sat. Apr. 12
22º this morning. Ground froze. Warmed up & the sun shone so it was a beautiful day although the wind was chilly. Olive came up & Mon & I went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Mon got a hair cut. We didn't get home until about 5:30. Went up town in eve awhile. Went over too see Gust a few minutes. [Hirm?] Wilbur was buried at B.O. this P.M. Froze again tonite.

About 23º this morn. Warmed up during the day & was a beautiful day although the wind was chilly. Howard, Fern & Shirley came about 2 & stayed until about 4 then Arthur, Ruth & Danny came & stayed a while. They were just leaving when Florence, Albert & Uncle Marion came & stayed a little while.

Mon. Apr. 14
Dandy nice day. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & helped clean grain. He got home a little after 2. I got the wash water on & then B.O. gave the general ring that the power would be off from 9 to 11 so I defrosted the refrigerator, canned some cherries & did other things in A.M. & washed & ironed in P.M. The power was only off about 10 minutes after all. It snowed in the nite.

Tues. Apr. 15
Not very nice day. Snowed off & on all day. Not hard just sprinkles. About 3 in. of snow on the ground this morning but quite a bit of it melted during the day. Dean, Iona & Linda came over about 11:30 & spent the rest of the day. Linda has sure grown. Mon & Dean went too B.O. awhile in P.M.

Wed. Apr. 16
About 25º this morn with the ground frozen some. Nice day. Warmed up some but the wind was chilly. Quite a lot of our snow went. Mon went over too Leigh Halse's in A.M. & got his seed oats he had bought of Lester Bronner. He went too Decorah in P.M. Rev. Mr. Arnold was here awhile in P.M. I cleaned out the pantry in P.M.

Thurs. Apr. 17
About 30º. Froze some. Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day. Sun did shine a little. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped Mon put rings in the hogs noses & then they cleaned grain. Finished about 1:30. Mon helped me put the linoleum down in the pantry & then he helped me put the new cupboards in & I put dishes in it & straightened up in the pantry & up stairs a little.

About 28º this morn. Rather chilly & damp all day. Sprinkled off & on all day until later in P.M. it brightened up some. Mon hauled up some corn fodder in A.M. & went up town awhile in P.M. Maxine was here a little while after school.

Sat. Apr. 19
Mama's 76th Birthday. Rather cold early in A.M. Froze quite a little. Wind was chilly all day. Sun shone some. Olive came up & Mon & I went too Decorah. Lizzie went with us. I got my hair fixed. They are tearing up Water St. getting ready too pave it & it is surely a mess. Large crowd in town. We didn't go up town in eve.

About 28 again this morn & froze. Warmed up quite a little during the day & it dried up a lot too. Arthur's, Dean's & Claudes were here for dinner. Had a good time. Ruth bro't her camera & took some pictures.

Mon. Apr. 21
Dandy nice day, although the wind was a little cool. I washed & ironed. Dean came over in A.M. & got the old gang plow. He took the rubber tired wagon & hauled it on that behind his car. Mon went with him. They got back here about 1:30 & then Dean helped Mon clean out the cellar way & the chicken house & haul out some manure. Aunt Marie Sheley died tonite.

Tues. Apr. 22
Quite a nice day. Rather damp for a while in A.M. but was nicer in P.M. Pearl was over awhile in A.M. We took Mama up too her house a little while in P.M. & then we went over too Annie's a while.

Wed. Apr. 23
Had quite an electrical storm early in A.M. & it rained quite hard. Was dark & dreary all day. Rained off & on all day but not so hard. Mon went too Postville looking for a bull. He got home about 5:30. Aunt Maria S. was buried this P.M.

Thurs. Apr. 24
Dean's 27th Birthday. Quite a nice day but the wind was chilly. Dried up a lot. Mon left about 9:15 & drove our car down too Roy Halse's & then Roy went with his pick up down too Postville & got our new bull. They got back here about 2:30. Mon went up town about 4 for a little while. We went over too Dean's in eve. Stanley, Lelia & Edna Vikkesland, Clyde & Edna & a couple of the Willson girls were there. Had a good time & a dandy good lunch. Got home about 1. The Willson girls rode home with us.

Fri. Apr. 25
Nice day. Mon hauled up corn fodder in A.M. He went over too Marion's awhile in P.M. Marion came home from Florence's yesterday. Ruth & I went too Club at Anita's in P.M. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch. Lizzie stayed with Mama. Leonard cut wood today.

Dandy nice day. Olive came over & stayed with Mama & Mon & I went too Decorah. Dean & Iona bro't Linda over in eve & left her while they went too Matters too the dance. She was so good. Slept almost all the time. Mon went up town a little while in eve.

Dandy nice day. Mon & I went down on the creek in P.M. He went fishing & I picked flowers for a little while. I got back about 2:45 & he came about 5. He got a nice mess of fish. Arthur was over in P.M. & got the disc.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. I washed & ironed & then raked yard & did some burning in P.M. Mon started working in the field today. Started plowing corn stalks.

Dandy day. Mon plowed. I worked at the yard & did odd jobs.

Nicest day we have had. Plenty warm. Looked like quite a storm in eve but it didn't amount to much. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning but not much rain. Aunt Eunice came up & spent the day. She is staying at the Winn. Hotel & took a taxi up here & then had him come & get her. Leonard cut wood awhile in A.M.

Horrible day. Rather chilly. Rained very hard early in A.M. & then kept up raining all day. Not so hard although it did rain hard at times. Wind blew terribly hard all day & nite. Mon went up town awhile in A.M. Dean, Iona & Linda came about 11:30. They had dinner here & then they went with Mon too Decorah. Left Linda here. She was such a good baby. They got back about 5. Cooler tonite.

Fri. May 2
Not very nice in A.M. Dark & cloudy & misty. Cleared off in P.M. & was real nice but the wind blew hard all day. Went down in eve. Marion was sick & called Mon early in A.M. so Mon went over after breakfast & a few chores & stayed with him awhile & then took him too Florence's. Mon went up town a little while in P.M. Claude's bro't Isa about 5:30. She had come too Decorah on the bus & as they were down they bro't her on out here. Mama was mighty glad too see her.

Sat. May 3
Dandy nice day. Much warmer. Mon started seeding this morning. I helped him get started. Zoa came down in P.M. & she & I went down on the creek & got some flowers. It sprinkled a little in P.M. Mon & I went up town awhile in eve. Stopped at Arthur's a few minutes on our way up there. Verna mowed the lawn late in P.M. & was here for supper.

Not too nice a day. Very windy & much cooler. Mon & I had too fix fence in P.M. Mon turned his little bull out today for the first time.

Mon. May 5
Not too nice a day but not too bad. Rather cloudy at times & not too cold. Mon finished sowing that one piece & dragged it & started plowing the other piece. We washed & did a little of the ironing. Babe, Aunt Eunice & Mettie came & we quit ironing. They spent the P.M. Leonard was here most of the day. He finished. Dean, Iona & Linda were here in eve.

Tues. May 6
Not so bad early in A.M. but it started too rain about 9:30 & it rained quite hard until in P.M. it let up some. Was quite chilly. Quit raining late in P.M. & cleared off in the nite. Mon plowed until it rained. We had an early dinner & then Mon & I went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed.

Wed. May 7
30º this morn. Chilly wind but it was a nice day & it warmed up some during the day. Mon & Isa went up too Mama's & started the fires & got her house straightened around. They came back a little after 10 & we took Mama down too see the Dr. Got home about 1 & had dinner & then we took Mama up too her home. Isa is going too stay with her a little while. Stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way up too see Dannie. Mon finished plowing that piece after we got home.

Thurs. May 8
About 30º this morn again. Chilly all day but nice. Quite windy. Mon dragged the oat ground. Finished seeding & got the piece dragged again. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's. Marvin, Marion & Roy & Mrs. Brown were there awhile. Cold nite.

Fri. May 9
30º again & ice froze on water. Warmed up some during the day. Nice day. Mon went over too Arthur's in A.M. & got the disc & then he disced the rest of the day.

Sat. May 10
Dandy nice day but quite windy. Mon finished discing that piece about 11:30 & we had dinner & then went up & got Isa & went too Decorah. Aunt Mary Porter stayed with Mama. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here awhile in eve. We went up town after they went home. I went up too Mama's awhile. Olive & Dean's were there too. Dean's went home about 9 & Olive & I stayed a little while longer & then we went down town. Arthur's bro't me a Mother's Day Card & a bottle of cologne. Dean's gave me a box of candy & a Mother's Day Cake. We got Linda a baby bed today. Verna mowed the lawn.

Sun. May 11
Dandy nice day. Warmer but terribly windy. We went over too Dean's & spent the day. Mon & Dean worked with Linda's bed. Dean had it set up but not just right. Philip wasn't there. Had a good time. Stopped at Mama's a minute on our way home. Went too Bluffton in eve too see Eileen O'Brien too see if she would stay with Mama.

Mon. May 12
Quite a nice day. It did sprinkle a little at noon but cleared off again & was nice in P.M. Looked quite stormy in eve but we didn't get much of a storm but we did get quite a lot of rain. I washed & ironed. Arthur came over early in A.M. & got the disc. Mon plowed all day. Alberta Hruska was killed this P.M. She was riding home from school on her bicycle when a truck struck her bike & threw her off & killed her.

Tues. May 13
Not very nice day. Rained quite a little in early A.M. & then off & on during the day & nite. We went over & got Mama about 9 & went too Decorah. Stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way down. Mon got a hair cut. We got home about 3.

Wed. May 14
Dark & dreary most of the day. Rained some early in A.M. & was rather damp until in P.M. it cleared off & was quite nice. Warm. Mon took the car up town early in A.M. too get the gas tank soldered. Albert Emery came about 9 too help Mon fix the water pipes. He went up town & got Mon & then Mon rode up town with him again in P.M. about 4, when they got through with the pipes, & got our car. Ruth bro't Danny over after dinner & left him while she went too Decorah. She came after him about 4:30. We went up town awhile in eve. I went up too Mama's. Had another storm in the nite.

Thurs. May 15
Not a very nice day. Rained off & on most of the day & at times quite hard. Mon took me too L.A.S. about 11:30. No hostesses but a good dinner but not too large a crowd. I stayed for the business meeting & then went up too Mama's. Rev. Goodrick's were up too L.A.S. & they called on Mama in P.M.

Fri. May 16
Beautiful day. Mon plowed. He took time off at noon & we went up too the school house too the picnic. Last day of school. Quite a few out & a good dinner.

Sat. May 17
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. We went up & got Isa about 10:30 & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. I went up home a little while.

Sun. May 18
Beautiful day. Quite warm. Mon went up & got Mama & Isa about 9:30 & they came down & spent the day. We went down too see Charlotte right after dinner & then Mon & Isa went down on the creek fishing in P.M. They got some nice ones. We took the folks home after chores. Verna mowed the lawn this A.M. & Sonny & Susie were over with her.

Mon. May 19
Not very nice early in A.M. Well most of the A.M. for that matter. Rainy & nasty. Cleared off in P.M. & was quite nice but windy. Dean, Iona & Linda came about 9:30 & Dean took Mon too La Crosse too see about the new car. (Didn't get much satisfaction) Iona & Linda stayed here. We went over too Howard's awhile in P.M. The men got back about 3:30. Mon plowed after he got home. Mon took me up too Inez W's. in eve & he went on up too B.O. The [minn?] com. of the W.S.C.S. met there too plan the lunch for Dorothy Wanless' wedding. We got home about 11:30. Had a nice lunch. Mon was there for that. Cool nite.

Tues. May 20
Quite nice in A.M. but cloudy up in P.M. & sprinkled some & then again in eve. Got cooler in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon plowed. We went over too Arthur's a few minutes after chores.

Wed. May 21
Nice day but rather cool. Mon finished plowing quite early in A.M. Arthur bro't the disc over about 8:30 & then Mon disced the rest of the day. We went up town about 5 too get some gasoline. I went up home a minute. Rained quite hard in the nite. Marvin had an operation for appendicitis at the Decorah Hospital this A.M. & got through O.K.

Thurs. May 22
Rained off & on all A.M. Sometimes quite hard. Mon & I went too B.O. about 10 & got Isa & went too Mabel. We got back too B.O. & had dinner at Mama's & then Mon & I went too Decorah about 1:30. Art & Ruth bro't Danny up too Mama's & left him in P.M. while they went too Decorah. Arthur & Ruth went down too the Hospital with us too see Marvin. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Olive was up there too. Gust Rehwinkle died about 3:10 this A.M.

Fri. May 23
Quite a nice day only rather cool. Mon went up too Briestsprechers too get some telephone tools early in A.M. & then he cleaned stuff out of the brooder house & did odd jobs in A.M. He took me over too Arthur's after dinner & then came back & disced in P.M. Ruth, Danny & I went too Club at Dorothy Emmon's. Quite a few out. Had a nice lunch. Ruth bro't me home. Cool nite.

Sat. May 24
Not too nice a day & still not too bad. Rather cloudy in A.M. but the sun shone some in P.M. Cool. Mon disced in A.M. He came in about 11 & we got ready & went too B.O. about 12. Mon went too Decorah with Hjalmer V. & I went with Gladys A. & Mrs. Vine too the Winn. Burial Ass. too services for Gust R. Mon was pall bearer. We women came ahead of the funeral procession & stopped at Kate's & got lunch ready for the relatives & friends who came back after the service. Had a nice lunch & there were quite a few came for lunch. We got home about 5. Went up town a little while. I went up home. Olive was there too. Cold nite.

Sun. May 25
Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & sprinkled. Cleared off then but clouded up after supper & looked pretty stormy. It did rain quite hard for awhile. Warm during the day but cooled off after the rain in eve. Mon went up & got Mama & Isa early in A.M. & they were here all day. We took them home after chores. Started too rain just as we took them home. Mon dragged in A.M. & then after dinner a little while. He & Isa went fishing in P.M. They had just gone when Dean, Iona & Linda came so Dean went fishing too. Arthur, Ruth & Danny came over for awhile about 4.

Mon. May 26
Chilly day but quite nice. We went up home about 8:30 & got Mama & Isa & got Mama's things. We bro't her down here & then we all took Isa too Decorah. Isa & I went in too see Marvin a minute. She started back home today. We got back here about 11. Mon started planting corn in P.M. I cleaned the brooder house. Cool nite. Verna mowed the lawn this A.M.

Tues. May 27
Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day & was cool. Mon planted corn all day. Finished about 4. Rained quite a little shower about 5. Marvin came home from the Hospital today. Cold nite.

Wed. May 28
Nasty day. Rained & snowed off & on all day. Snowed quite hard at times. Cold wind all day. Didn't do much of anything. Mon went over too Marion's a while late in P.M. Snowed hard enough in eve so the ground was covered with snow. Cold nite.

Thurs. May 29
30º this morn. Ice froze on the tank & on pails etc. Warmed up some during the day. The snow all melted. Worst snow storm in history for this time of year. I washed in A.M. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. & got our baby chicks Darlene stayed with Mama. We got 454 baby chicks. Kept them in the house tonite as it was so cold. It was a cold nite. Verna & Darlene were here awhile in eve. We got 245 leghorns & 209 hibreds. Lots of snow fell south of us. From south of Decorah too Cedar Falls & all through there.

Fri. May 30
Rather cold early in A.M. but warmed up & was a dandy nice day. Mon dragged the corn he had planted, in A.M. & disced in P.M. I put out the baby chicks right after breakfast. Aunt Eunice, Vin, Eunice & little Vin came a little after 10 & were here until after 2. Loyal called from San Francisco about 3:20 A.M. too talk a little.

Sat. May 31
Dandy nice day. Mon disced all day. Aunt Eunice & the bunch were here awhile in P.M. Mon & I went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. June 1
Not very nice day. Started too sprinkle about 8 A.M. & then later turned into rain & it did rain very hard most of the P.M. so it was a bad day. We all went over too Albert E's about 8:15 after some seed corn. Visited then a little while & then stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way home.

Mon. June 2
Dandy nice day. We went over & got Marion about 9 & went too Decorah. Mama stopped at Mettie's. I got my hair fixed. We came home about 3. Mon did some odd jobs after we got home. Verna mowed the lawn after we got home. Merlin Snell & Bernella Amundson were married today.

Tues. June 3
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon disced & dragged in A.M. & then started planting corn in P.M.

Wed. June 4
Not a very nice day. Rained very hard early in A.M. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Let up about 7 but it was cloudy most of the day & damp & chilly. Sun shone some. Had quite a hard storm again about 6:30 with some hail. Wind blew terribly hard & it rained again about 8:30. Dean, Iona & Linda came over about 11 & Mon went too Decorah with the kids. They left Linda here. She was afraid at first but she got over it. Slept most of the time. The folks got home about 5 & the kids stayed for supper. They got Linda a high chair.

Thurs. June 5
Rather cloudy & damp early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Did odd jobs in A.M. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. & Mama & I went over too Arthurs & spent the time while he was gone. Had a good time with Danny. Mon took the car up town in eve & left it too be fixed.

Fri. June 6
Dandy nice warm day & it was warm. Mon dragged in A.M. & then planted corn. He finished a little after 3 & then dragged again until supper time. Had quite a storm again in eve. Thunder, lightning, wind & rain. Cooled off a little in the nite. Little daughter born too Mary & Tommie Macha.

Sat. June 7
Quite nice in A.M. early but clouded up about noon & it rained very hard between 1 & 2:30. Harold bro't our car down in A.M. & then Mon took him back too B.O. Mon went too Decorah about 12. He took Mama & I too B.O. on his way. Mama stayed at Aunt Mary's & I went too the M.E. church. Dorothy Wanless & Clint [Ewalt?] were married at the church at 2:30 & the L.A.S. served the lunch afterward. I left there about 4:30 & Mon was in B.O. so we got Mama & came home. It had cleared off by then & was lovely. Very nice wedding. Dorothy was a beautiful bride. Mon & I went up town in eve.

Sun. June 8
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Didn't do much of anything except sit around. Arthur, Ruth & Danny were here a few minutes late in P.M. They had been fishing.

Mon. June 9
Rather cloudy & rainy looking early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice until in P.M. it clouded up but just sprinkled a few drops. Plenty warm day & windy. Mon spaded up my little garden spot in A.M. & I planted most of it in P.M. Mon disced bean ground in P.M. Verna mowed the lawn in P.M. Got a letter from Isa.

Tues. June 10
Quite a nice day. Rather warm in A.M. but cooled off quite a lot later in P.M. Terribly windy in P.M. & it looked like there was a lot of dust in the air. Mon plowed the bean ground & then disced it again. Looked quite stormy in eve but just sprinkled a little. Cool nite.

Wed. June 11
44º this A.M. Chilly dark windy & damp at times. Sun shone some. I washed & ironed. Mon disced & dragged in A.M. Arthur, Ruth & Danny came over after dinner & Arthur helped Mon put the disc away, change the wheels on the tractor & put the corn planter away etc. Ruth & Danny went home a little after 3 & Mon took Arthur home when they finished their work. Mon took the car up town, & left it too be fixed, in eve. Sugar rationing too housewives, hotels & hospitals went out of effect at midnite tonite. First sugar we could buy without stamps since May 1942. Cool nite.

Thurs. June 12
44º this morn. Not too bad in A.M. early but it started too rain about 10:30 & it sure did rain in P.M. & kept it up all nite. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning in eve. Didn't do much of anything.

Fri. June 13
Not very nice day. Rained off & on most of the day. Cleared off in P.M. Harold C. bro't the car home early in A.M. & Mon took him back too B.O. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.

Sat. June 14
Quite a nice day. Marion & Lizzie went too Decorah with us. We took Mama down too Mettie's & left her while we were gone. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. Mon & I went up town awhile in eve. Stopped at Arthur's a few minutes on our way up town.

Sun. June 15
Dandy nice day but quite windy. Dean, Iona, Linda & Philip came over after church & stayed until about 4:30. Linda didn't feel very good. Too much wind I guess. Frank & Lucy Snell were here awhile in P.M. Claude, Olive & Marvin came over & spent the eve.

Mon. June 16
Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Sprinkled a little about supper time & then it rained quite a little in the nite. Mon helped me fix the pen for the little chickens early in A.M. & we let them out. He plowed corn the rest of the day. Ruth bro't Danny over about 10:30 & left him while she went too Decorah. She came back after him about 2. Verna mowed the lawn in P.M. Mama & I walked over too Pearl's in P.M.

Tues. June 17
Not very nice in A.M. Rained quite hard early in A.M. & was damp & dark all A.M. Cleared off in P.M. & was quite nice. Mon went too Prosper in P.M. & got some boards. Dean came over in P.M. & got the corn plow. He & I loaded it onto the rubber tired wagon & he hooked it behind his car. He met Mon down the road aways & so Mon went back with him & helped him unload it. Dean bro't the wagon right back & he helped Mon with some little jobs.

Wed. June 18
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon worked around at odd jobs all day. He made a [bit?] for his wagon box in A.M. Alan Q. was here awhile in A.M. & he & Ludvig came down in P.M. with the team & got our 2 row corn plow. Lizzie was here awhile in P.M.

Thurs. June 19
Dandy nice day. Mon plowed corn all day. He went up town awhile in eve. Had a letter from Isa.

Fri. June 20
Nice day but quite windy & the wind was rather cool at times. Mon plowed corn all day. I went up in the woods in A.M. & found a sow with 8 pigs. Our first ones for the year.

Sat. June 21
Quite a nice day. Rather cool in A.M. but warmed up during the day. Quite windy. We took Mama over too Lizzie's where she spent the day & we went too Decorah. Dave & Marion went with us. We went up town awhile in eve. Verna went with us. I sat in the car with Iona & Linda most of the eve. It sprinkled a few times in eve.

Sun. June 22
Nice warm day but quite windy. We went over too Arthurs & spent the day. Had a lot of fun with Danny. Had a swell dinner. Mon found 2 sows this A.M. one with 6 pigs & the other with 3. Danny sits up alone now.

Mon. June 23
Had a little shower early in A.M. but it cleared off & was a dandy nice day. Mon plowed corn. We took Mama too Decorah too see the Dr. after dinner. Mon plowed after we got home.

Tues. June 24
Nice warm day. I washed & ironed. Mon plowed corn. Mrs. Piper was up too see Mama just after supper. Mon went up town a minute in eve.

Wed. June 25
Rather cloudy early in A.M. & we had a shower of rain but it cleared off & was very nice the rest of the day. I helped Mon fix fence early in A.M. & do odd jobs. He fixed a place too shut the setting hens up. Arthur, Ruth & Danny came about 11:30 & were here for dinner. Arthur bro't some corn too shell & then they took it too Decorah in P.M. too get it cracked for their little chickens. They left Danny here. Got back here about 5:30 after him. He was a good boy.

Thurs. June 26
Dandy nice warm day. Quite windy. Mon plowed until about 2. He finished crossing it & then went over too Arthur's & helped hay the rest of the P.M.

Fri. June 27
Looked rather rainy early in A.M. but didn't rain. Was a very nice day. Warm. Mon went over too Arthur's in A.M. & got the digger & worked the bean ground today. Ruth came over about 1:30 & took Mama & I too Club at Florence E's. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch.

Sat. June 28
Mighty warm day. Mon mowed weeds with the team & mower in A.M. We had an early dinner & went too Decorah about 12. Mama stayed alone. Marion, Ludvig & Fern R. went with us. Ludvig didn't come home with us. Looked like a mighty bad storm about 6:30. Did rain terribly hard for about 1½ hrs. & quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Mon went up town about 9. Little son born too Leonard & Opal Blaess this A.M. at the Decorah Hospital.

Sun. June 29
Quite a nice day although it did cloud up about 3 P.M. & look quite stormy. Thundered quite a lot but didn't rain. Cleared off & was very nice afterward but cooler. Mon took Mama & I too church in A.M. The kids had Danny baptised this morning in church. He was very good. They bro't him over here about 1 & left him & they went too the movies at Decorah. They came back & stopped a few minutes. We had a lunch. Dean, Iona & Linda were over & spent the eve. Linda has grown so & is so good. She almost sits up alone now.

Mon. June 30
Had a very hard rain about 5:45. Just poured down & quite a lot of thunder, but cleared off & was a nice day only some what cooler. Mon drove up too B.O. about 9:30 & then went from there too La Crosse with Dean. Went up too see about the car. He got home about 5:30. Verna mowed part of the lawn after supper. Arthur was over a few minutes in eve.

Tues. July 1
Dandy nice day but rather cool. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & worked awhile & then came back & took Mama & I up too her home & then back too Arthur's where he worked all day haying. Olive & Claude & Marvin went too Decorah in P.M. & got Mrs. Clara Engen & bro't her up too Mama's too stay with her if the 2 ladies can agree. Claude's bro't me home about 5. Mon took me over too Arthur's in eve too a school meeting. He & Arthur went up town awhile. We came home about 10. Cool nite.

Wed. July 2
Dandy nice day but the breeze was cool. I washed. Mon sowed beans in A.M. & helped with the haying at Arthur's in P.M. I went over there & spent the P.M. too.

Thurs. July 3
Had quite a shower early in A.M. but it cleared off & was a nice day. We went up town about 10 for a little while I went up home a minute. We got a new mattress from Ben Wicks (Inner Springs $38.76) & after we got home I cleaned up the bed & room. Mon dragged his beans. We fixed the bed at noon. Mon helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. I ironed & did odd jobs. We went over too Deans a while in eve.

Fri. July 4
Not too nice a day. Sun shone some & it was cloudy quite a bit. Clouded up late in P.M. & started too rain about 8. Rained quite a little. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Mon plowed corn in A.M. & helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. Dean, Iona & Linda came & stayed awhile in P.M. They had been down too the Celebration at Decorah Airport. A young woman stunt flier plunged too her death & that finished the air show.

Sat. July 5
Not too nice early in A.M. but was a little better later in the day until in P.M. it sprinkled some & then we had quite a shower after supper. Looked like a bad storm but it just rained here. Mon & I went too Decorah. The streets are sure a mess down there. Bought 100 lbs of sugar ($10.30) Went up town in eve. I went up home awhile. Chris Matthews died tonite.

Sun. July 6
Quite a nice day but rather cool. Arthur & Ruth bro't Danny over about 3 & left him & they went fishing but they didn't stay long. The water was too muddy so they came back here & stayed awhile. Little son born too Gladys & Ray Henning today.

Mon. July 7
Dandy nice day. Not too warm. Mon plowed corn in A.M. He took the car up town at noon & then Arthur went up & got him & he helped them put in a couple of jags of hay. He went up town then with Ruth & got our car & came home & plowed corn again. I washed & ironed & did odd jobs. Got a letter from Isa.

Tues. July 8
Dandy nice day. Mon plowed corn. I didn't do too much. Have a bum cold & don't feel very good. Verna mowed the lawn late in P.M. & eve & was here for supper. We went up town a few minutes in eve.

Wed. July 9
Dandy nice day. Mon plowed corn until about 10 & then he went out & mowed hay until about 4. We went over too Marion's about 4:30 & picked strawberries. We got home about 6. Leonard Blaess ran over his little boy Bobbie & killed him about 9 A.M. Opal called up here for me too tell Pearl too come down & Chas. Wernett came here just then & he & I went down there right away. It was a terrible thing. I came back up home with Floyd.

Thurs. July 10
Dandy nice day. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & got the side rake he mowed awhile & used the rake awhile. Arthur came over about 11 & got things fixed around the barn ready for haying. We put in 4 loads of hay in P.M. We went up town a few minutes in eve.

Fri. July 11
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & then Mon went out about 10 too rake hay. Arthur came over a little after 10 & they put up hay the rest of the day. I went too Bobbie Blaess funeral at the Lutheran Church in B.O. in P.M. with Mrs. Vine & Irene. Ruth K. & Charlie Wilbur went along too. Mon took me over too Arthurs about 8:30 & I stayed with Danny while Arthur & Ruth went too a party at Harlan Whitney's. They got home about 1 & Arthur bro't me home. It started too rain just before they came home & kept it up gently for a while & then later it rained very hard.

Sat. July 12
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon. Had a bad storm about 1. Looked very bad & the wind blew hard & it rained very hard for over an hour. Cleared off later in P.M. & then it rained some ago in the eve with lots of thunder & lightning. We went too Decorah. Marion & Lizzie went with us. I got my hair fixed. Mon came home too supper with us. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Wilma was up there too.

Sun. July 13
Nice day but a little cooler although plenty warm. Mon took me too church in A.M. We were alone all day. Korsrud's were here a few minutes after supper while Mon was milking.

Mon. July 14
Very nice until about 3:30 P.M. quite a bad looking storm came up. It rained very hard for awhile. Cleared off again. I washed & did part of the ironing. Mon mowed hay in A.M. & mowed weeds too. Arthur, Ruth & Danny came over after dinner. Mon & Arthur hauled in the hay that was out over the week end & stacked it outside. Ruth picked a few gooseberries. Had a good time with Danny.

Tues. July 15
Dandy nice day. Mon mowed some in A.M. & raked. Arthur came over in P.M. & we put up hay. Dean, Iona & Linda were here a little while in eve.

Wed. July 16
Dandy nice day. Mighty warm. Mon plowed corn in A.M. I went too Decorah with Ruth about 10. Took Danny down for a whooping cough "shot". We got back too Arthur's about 12:30 & he bro't me on home. He came over in P.M. & we put up hay. Finished filling the barn. We went up town awhile in eve. I went up home a few minutes. Verna mowed part of the lawn this A.M.

Thurs. July 17
Pretty warm day & nice until about 2:30 it clouded up & rained a little but not enough too stop haying. Looked rainy off & on the rest of the P.M. & it did sprinkle some too at different times. Got much cooler in eve. Mon plowed corn until about 10:30 & then he went over too Arthur's & helped hay the rest of the day. Dorothy Emmons was here a few minutes in P.M. The Joan of Arc had an ice cream Social in the Hall for the benefit of the cemetry in eve. We went up when Mon finished chores. Verna finished mowing the lawn after supper. Got a letter from Isa today.

Fri. July 18
Nice day but quite cool. Mon plowed corn until about 10 & then he went over too Arthur's & helped hay the rest of the day.

Sat. July 19
Nice day but a little cool. Mon plowed corn in A.M. & helped hay at Arthur's in P.M. I went too Decorah with Arthur's in A.M. (Took our car). We went up town in eve, Verna went along too. I went up too Mama's. Dean, Iona & Linda were there awhile too.

Sun. July 20
Nice day but cool. Mon took me too church in A.M. We went up & got Mama, Mrs. Engen & Aunt Alice & took them too church to. We were alone all day.

Mon. July 21
Nice day but cool. I washed & ironed. Washed curtains & windows. Mon plowed corn until about 9:30 & then went over too Arthur's & helped hay the rest of the day. Cool nite.

Tues. July 22
40º this morn. Warmed up during the day but the wind was chilly all day. Mon plowed corn for awhile in A.M. & then went over too Arthur's & helped hay. He got home about 3:30 We went over too Dean's when he got home from Arthur's. I had picked some gooseberries for Iona in A.M. & we took them over too her. They are haying over there. Linda is so nice. Ruth had company come from Hammond this noon. Anna Weiland. Mon finished plowing corn this A.M.

Wed. July 23
Nice day. Warmed up a little. We went over after Marion about 10:30 & went too Decorah. Dead town. Big doings at Luther (Farm Bureau Festival) so not many in town. Mon got a hair cut. We drove a little ways on the new paving.

Thurs. July 24
Dandy nice day. Some warmer. Mon drove too Canton & took the bus from there too La Crosse in P.M. He left Canton at 12:40 & got back there at 5:40. Didn't find out much about the car. We went up town awhile in eve. I went up home a little while. Little son born too Audry & Ralph Greenslade this P.M.

Fri. July 25
Looked quite rainy most of A.M. & it did sprinkle a little but cleared off & was nice in P.M. & warmer. Chas & Louis W. came in A.M. & Mon went & helped mow all day so they had the 2 mowers going & mowed quite a lot. Mon took Lizzie & I too Club at Maxine's at noon. Quite a few out & we had a nice lunch. We rode back too B.O. with Dorothea R. & Mon came up there after us about 5. Arthur was here a while in A.M. Their company went back too Hammond today. They took her too Calmar this P.M.

Sat. July 26
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. It looked quite stormy for awhile but it didn't storm. We took Marion home from town. Got home a little after 10. Quite a wind storm in the nite but it didn't do any damage here. Chas. W. put up hay here today. Marjorie Thompson & Harlan [Busic?] were married this P.M.

Sun. July 27
Dandy nice day. Not quite so warm as yesterday. Nice breeze. Arthur's & Dean's were here & spent the day. Arthur's went fishing a little while in P.M. & Dean & Iona picked gooseberries for awhile. The babies are so nice. We had a lot of fun with them. Linda wasn't quite so afraid. We had our first young chickens too eat today. Had 7 of them.

Mon. July 28
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. I washed & ironed. Arthur's was over awhile early in A.M. & changed the wheels on his tractor & did some other fixing on it. We went too Mabel right after dinner & Mon got a couple of teeth pulled. Chas. W. hayed here again today.

Tues. July 29
Mighty warm day. Warmest we have had. Looked rainy at times but it didn't rain. We went up & got Mama & Mrs. Engen about 10:15 & went too Decorah. Took Mama too the Dr. He said she is much better. They came back here & stayed until after chores & then we took them home. We got back from Decorah about 12:45. Dean was over awhile in P.M. Chas. mowed all day. Finished that one piece & then went out east too mow. Mon went out about 4 & helped him mow until supper time. Warm nite.

Wed. July 30
Very warm in A.M. Hot. Wind got around in the north in P.M. & it was somewhat cooler. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & helped him get the binder out & then he came back & helped Chas. mow until noon. They finished mowing this A.M. Chas. & Louis put up hay in P.M. & eve. Louis came just as we finished supper so I fixed some supper for him & then I sent a lunch down too Chas. Mon went too Arthur's in P.M. They started cutting grain there this P.M. Cool nite.

Thurs. July 31
Nice day. Not quite so warm. Mon was at Arthur's all day harvesting. Chas & Louis put up hay here in P.M. & eve. Verna mowed the lawn in P.M. We went over too Dean's awhile in eve. Clyde, Edna, Jerry & Howard came while we were there. Cool nite.

Fri. Aug. 1
Rather cloudy in A.M. & sprinkled off & on but cleared off about noon. Cloudy at times in P.M. for a little while. Cool day. Mon was at Arthur's harvesting in A.M. He bro't the binder over here after dinner & started cutting oats here.

Sat. Aug. 2
Very warm day. Arthur & Dean were here today. They finished cutting our grain & got quite a little of it shocked. Dean was here for supper. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's a while. Olive was there too. Mrs. Engen went home today for the week end so Mama is alone. Dean, Iona & Linda came after me. Dean & Iona went too the Shower down at Breezy Hill for Marjorie Thompson [Busic?] & her husband & we kept Linda. Stayed up town until after 11. Brought Marion home. Linda was pretty good. The kids got back here about 1. Cooled off some tonite.

Sun. Aug. 3
Mighty hot day. We went over too Arthur's awhile in A.M. too play with Danny. Dave was over awhile in P.M. Didn't cool off much at nite.

Mon. Aug. 4
Mighty hot day. I washed & ironed. Dean & Arthur came early in A.M. & they finished up the shocking here about 10 & then they went over too Arthur's too cut & shock. Warm nite, not very good too sleep.

Tues. Aug. 5
Mighty hot day. Mon was at Arthur's all day harvesting. Hot nite.

Wed. Aug. 6
Rather cloudy most of A.M. Sure did look like rain at times & mighty warm. Did sprinkle a little about 11:30 but not enough too do any good. The wind got around into the north in P.M. & it did cool off late in P.M. & was a nice night too sleep. Mon was at Arthur's all day. Ruth & Danny came over after me about 10:30 & I was there for dinner & then Ruth, Danny & I went too Decorah right after dinner. We left Danny at Krumm's & Ruth & I shopped. We got home about 5 & stopped at Ruth's a minute & then she & Danny bro't me home. Harry, Vera & Bobbie were here awhile in eve.

Thurs. Aug. 7
Nice day. Not quite as warm. Mon & I went out east & fixed fence early in A.M. & then Mon went too Arthur's. They finished harvesting there late in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went over too Jennie Ward's & met with the girls too plan our L.A.S. dinner. Cool nite.

Fri. Aug. 8
Nice day. Not quite so warm. Mon & I drove our car too Canton at noon & took the bus too La Crosse too see about our new car but didn't find out anything. Got home about 6. Cool nite. Verna mowed the lawn this A.M.

Sat. Aug. 9
Looked very stormy early in A.M. Had quite a lot of thunder & lightning but we didn't even get a sprinkle. Cleared off & was a nice day. We went too Decorah about 10. Stopped at Arthur's awhile going. Went up & got Mrs. Engen. She is going home too stay & Mama will be alone. I got my hair fixed. Saw Marie, Paul & the kiddies. They are here for a visit. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Dean, Iona & Linda came up awhile. I rode down town with them.

Sun. Aug. 10
Pretty warm day. Mon took me too church in A.M. We went up & got Mama & took her too church too. Ray Henning's were here awhile late in P.M.

Mon. Aug. 11
Another hot day. Claude, Olive, Paul, Marie, Marjorie, Gary, Mama, Arthur, Ruth, Danny, Iona, Linda, Philip & Leslie were all here for dinner & Claude's & Philip's spent the P.M. too. Mon helped Arthur awhile in A.M. We went up too Ray Henning's in eve.

Tues. Aug. 12
Nice hot day. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs. We went up town a few minutes in eve.

Wed. Aug. 13
Very warm & nice until about 3 P.M. it clouded up & we had a nice little shower with quite a lot of thunder & lightning & some hail. It got cooler after that & was a nice cool nite. Mon threshed at Howard's in A.M. He & Marion were here for dinner. Ruth came over about 12 & she & I & Danny went too B.O. after food for the threshers. There were about 4 loads on wagons when it rained & one load left out in the field. Some of the men went home. They finished threshing out the loads that were here at the house. Ruth & Danny went home as soon as they had supper. Mon & I went up town when chores were done & took the meat that was left back. Winn. Co. Fair started tonite.

Thurs. Aug. 14
Dandy nice day. Cooler. They threshed out the other load of grain here in A.M. Mon went up town early in A.M. & got a 30 lb. can of cherries for me too can. $6.25. I got 13 qts. Arthur was here for dinner & then he & Mon went too Fred's threshing. Ruth bro't Danny over at noon & left him while she went too Decorah too get dental work done. She came after him about 6. Mon came home for supper. Cool nite. We got 333 bu. of grain.

Fri. Aug. 15
Dandy nice day. Somewhat warmer. Mon helped thresh at Fred's in A.M. They got through over there about 10 & went too Ludvig's. Finished there tonite.

Sat. Aug. 16
Nice day. Mon was at Ray Henning's all day threshing. Dean, Iona & Linda were here a few minutes in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's a while.

Sun. Aug. 17
Nice day but plenty warm. Ruth & Danny were here early in A.M. & bro't their thresh meat over & put it in the refrigerator. Mon & I went over too Dean's & spent the day. Had a good time. Warm nite.

Mon. Aug. 18
Mighty hot day again. We went over too Arthurs early in A.M. & helped thresh all day. Mrs. K. was up & helped too. Warm nite. Got a letter from Isa today.

Tues. Aug. 19
Hot day. Clouded up about noon & looked quite rainy & it thundered quite a little but no rain & again in eve it clouded up & looked mighty stormy & we had quite a lot of thunder & lightning but no rain. It cooled off some in the eve. I washed & ironed. Mon threshed at Ray Halse's in A.M. & spent the P.M. in B.O. We went up town a few minutes in eve. Little daughter born to Evelyn & Melvin Underbakke.

Wed. Aug. 20
Hot day. Mon helped Quandahl's thresh up on Eddie Ottaway's. Took them most of the day. That finishes the threshing. Warm nite.

Thurs. Aug. 21
Hot day & I mean hot. Maxine, Ann Underbakke, Lucile Ottaway & I entertained W.S.C.S. at the church. Mon took me up about 10. Dave & Lizzie went with us. Had a pretty good crowd for as hot a day & so busy a time. Took in $31.40 Just about cooked getting ready in A.M. & then washing dishes after I got home. Dean, Iona & Linda came over awhile in eve. Warm nite.

Fri. Aug. 22
Hot day. Mon went over too Marions awhile in A.M. & over too Arthur's. Arthur was here a minute. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Mon got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Milton Schnitzler & Juliet Albertson were married today & they had a Shower for them at the Legion Hall (formerly Breezy Hill.) We went down awhile. Not too large a crowd but they seemed too have a good time. We got home about 1. Better nite too sleep. I canned another 30 lbs. of cherries today. Got 12½ qts.

Sat. Aug. 23
Hot day again. Mon helped hay at Arthur's in A.M. He bro't Danny home with him & we kept him while his folks went to Decorah. We took him home after supper. Went up town in eve. Went up to Mama's a while. Olive was there too. Marion was up town & he wasn't in very good shape. Couldn't seem too see & so Albert took him down too their house awhile & then took him home. We went over too Albert's when we came home for a few minutes. Shirley is home for a while. Cooler nite too sleep.

Sun. Aug. 24
Nice day & cooler. We were lazy & didn't go anywhere. Harry & Bobbie Q. were here a few minutes in P.M.

Mon. Aug. 25
Not too nice a day until late in P.M. it cleared off & was very bright & nice. Tried so hard too rain but it just sprinkled a little. Cool day. I washed & ironed. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & mowed weeds in the pasture in P.M. We went up town in eve. I met with the girls too plan the ice cream Social. Cool nite. A couple of Negroe's or colored men "fixed" the furnace at the school house this P.M. & were here about 6:30 after the check for their work. Hjalmer V. was with them. $179.60 for the work. First day of school & Evelyn Falck is teacher.

Tues. Aug. 26
About 48º this morn. Warmed up quite a little. Was quite warm in P.M. Ruth called about noon for me too call the Bank & stop the payment on the check I gave those colored men last night so I did. I had too go down & sign some papers so we went after dinner & Ruth & Danny went with us. Mon went up too the school house as soon as he had his dinner too look at the furnace with Hjalmer & those men hadn't fixed it at all. We left Danny with Mrs. K. & Ruth & I went too the Bank then up too Mr. Stoen's office & then up too see the Sheriff about picking those men up. No satisfaction from the Sheriff. We stopped at the Public Opinion office & told L. Dale Ahern about it so he would publish it. Got home about 6. We went up town awhile in eve. Dave was here a few minutes in eve.

Wed. Aug. 27
Nice day. Mon helped hay at Arthur's all day. The sheriff got the men, who "fixed" the furnace at the school house, in Decorah this P.M.

Thurs. Aug. 28
Very nice until late in P.M. it clouded up. Started too rain about 6:30 & kept it up all nite. Rained very hard at times. Thunder & lightning kept up all nite. Had some hail in the nite. Mon helped hay at Arthur's in A.M. He went over too Marion's awhile in P.M. & Marion came home with him. They took me up town about 4 P.M. The W.S.C.S. had an ice cream Social at the church & I helped. Quite a few out in spite of the rain. Took in $41.90. We took Marion home when we came home about 10:30. There was a hearing at the Court House in Decorah for those men who "fixed" the furnace & they gave back our money & were fined.

Fri. Aug. 29
Rained all A.M. & at times quite hard. Plenty of thunder & lightning. Cleared off & was very nice in P.M. Swell rain. Did a lot of good. We went over too Arthur's a few minutes in P.M.

Sat. Aug. 30
Nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Lizzie & Marion went with us. Large crowd in town. Saw Dean & Iona & Linda down there. They were in the car with me for some time. Iona took Linda too the Dr. & he said she has whooping cough. We went up town in eve. I went up home awhile. Olive was there too. Linda got a tooth today.

Nice day. We went over too Arthur's a few minutes in A.M. Dean, Iona & Linda were here awhile in eve.

Mon. Sept. 1
Nice day, rather windy. I washed & ironed. Arthur came over & helped Mon fix up the old brooder house & move it over by the garage too use it for a coal house. They finished about 3.

Tues. Sept. 2
Nice day. Somewhat warmer. We went up & got Mama about 10:30 & went too Decorah. She went too see the Dr. & then we went around town a little. Had dinner down there. Got home about 1:30. We went up town a few minutes later in P.M. Got a letter from Aunt Pearl.

Wed. Sept. 3
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon drove our car too Canton at noon & took the bus too La Crosse too see about our new car (nothing doing). I went too B.O. with him & went too the Lutheran L.A.S. for dinner. Had a good dinner. Went up too Mama's & spent the P.M. Uncle Geo. was there awhile.

Thurs. Sept. 4
Quite nice in A.M. but rather cloudy sometimes too. Sprinkled a little. Clouded up in P.M. & looked like quite a bad storm but we just got a little shower. Mon helped at Arthur's today. They are going too build a new hen house & he helped put the forms in for the cement. He came home in P.M. when it rained but went back when it quit & I went back with him so I got too play with Danny awhile.

Fri. Sept. 5
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon did odd jobs around home & went up too Ray Hennings & got the manure spreader in A.M. & went over too Arthur's in P.M. & helped with some work. We got a letter from the Hudson Co. today sending back our money so we won't get a car very soon.

Sat. Sept. 6
Nice day. Quite warm. We sacked up some oats early in A.M. & Mon took it over too Arthurs, on the wagon, & Arthur took it too Mabel with his in P.M. & had it ground. He bro't it & the wagon back in P.M. We went too Decorah about 11. Got my hair fixed. Fern rode home from Decorah with us. We took her too B.O. Went up town in eve. Went up too Mama's awhile. Mettie & Dell were there too.

Nice day. Mon took me too church in A.M.

Mon. Sept. 8
Nice day. Quite warm & windy. I washed & ironed. Mon cut some poles in A.M. too make a pen too feed the little pigs & then he went too Bluffton with Ray H. He hauled up the poles & worked at the pen in P.M. We went over too Dean's in eve. Linda sure has the whooping cough. She coughed & whooped quite a little. Got a letter from Isa. Klinkers man bro't out a new tractor plow in P.M. It cost $166.26 & we got $114.86 for our old one so only had too pay $51.40. Linda goes around in her stroller.

Tues. Sept. 9
Nice day. Quite warm. Clouded up about 6 P.M. & looked like quite a storm (thunder & lightning) but no rain. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & then they went too Prosper. Marion came home with Mon & stayed until after supper & then Mon took him home. They made the pen too feed the little pigs in, in P.M.

Wed. Sept. 10
Very nice early in A.M. but clouded up & sprinkled a little around 10. Cleared off & was nice & warm the rest of the day. Clouded up in eve & the wind blew terribly hard for a little while about 10. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning & a sprinkle of rain. Marion & Mr. & Mrs. Donald Whitesit, Amy Van Vleits son, came about 10 & stayed until about 11. Donald's went on then too Albert Van Vleits & Marion stayed here. We went up town awhile after dinner. Up too Mama's & helped her change some things around up there. Took Marion on home. Mon got some lumber while we were gone & he started a box for his rubber tired wagon. We went over too Arthur's a few minutes late in P.M. Danny goes all over in his stroller.

Thurs. Sept. 11
Nice day. Mon went over too Marion's early in A.M. for a little while. He made a hog trough & worked at the rack for his wagon. Big day in Decorah today, celebrating the finishing of the new pavement.

Rained most of A.M. Cleared off in P.M. Mon went up town a while in P.M.

Sat. Sept. 13
Nice day. A little cooler. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Lizzie went with us. We went window shopping all over town trying too find a prize with our members. Saw Dean, Iona & Linda. Sat in the car with them. Linda seems some better. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Johnnie & Jeanne & [Sharon?] Whalen moved into her south rooms today. We came home about 10. Marion rode home with us.

Nice day but quite windy & cool. Mon took me over too Arthur's about 10:30 & I went too church with Ruth & Danny.

About 38 this morn. Nice cool day & quite windy. I washed & ironed. Mon helped Marion all day. Putting in shingles on the north part of his house. They were here for dinner. Donnie Halse quit school today.

Tues. Sept. 16
Nice day. Some warmer. Mon helped Marion in A.M. They finished up before noon. Mon took me over too Arthur's about 1:30 & I went up too Zoa's with Ruth too choir practice. We were home again at 3. Danny had quite a cold so she left him at home with Arthur. We gathered up a couple of crates of young roosters in eve.

Nice day. Mon worked at his wagon box. He had too go up town a minute in P.M. Danny is better.

Thurs. Sept. 18
Nice day & plenty warm. Mon took Lizzie & I too B.O. about 10:15. Went up & got Mama & we ladies went too the W.S.C.S. Florence E., Aunt Alice, Elsie S. & Joyce H. served. Had a swell dinner & a very large crowd. Took in $60. Mon came back up after us about 4. We stopped at Arthur's a minute going up & then a little while on our way home. Danny is pretty well.

Fri. Sept. 19
Nice day & plenty warm. Mon went too B.O. in A.M. too get some bolts but couldn't get them so he went too Decorah & got them. He worked at his wagon box in P.M. Ruth & Arthur took Danny too Decorah this P.M. & had his picture taken.

Sat. Sept. 20
Nice day. Our 31st Wedding Anniversary. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Went over & got Marion & he went along. Mon took me too dinner. We went too [Bench?] & Brandt's after dinner & bought 8 dining room chairs. I went window shopping again & found one of my members at Hill's grocery & got a big box of groceries. I got the proofs of Danny's pictures today. We stopped at Claude's on our way home & got a box of tomatoes & stopped at Arthur's with the proofs. We went up town awhile in eve. I went up too Mama's. Olive was there too. It rained some while we were up there & then some later. Not much though. Got cooler then.

Sun. Sept. 21
Nice day. Got quite windy & much cooler in P.M. & eve. Dean's & Philip were over & spent the day. The men went over too Marion's awhile in P.M. Dean & Mon went hunting squirrels but didn't get any. Cool nite.

Mon. Sept. 22
About 28º this morn. Frost on the roofs & ice in some places but none here. Warmed up during the day but the wind was chilly even if the sun was warm. Power went off about 6:40 & came on again about 9:40 & then off in about 15 min's & then off until after 1. I canned tomatoes in A.M. Mon cleaned out the shed. Dean came over in P.M. & helped him. Albert & Florence came after me about 1:30 & we girls went up too the church & helped clean it up some. Not very many there. Mon came after us about 5. We took Florence home. Dean finished up the job while Mon was after us & he went home as soon as we got home. Howard was over awhile in A.M. Cool nite. Had a letter from Isa today.

Tues. Sept. 23
Nice day. Rather windy. Warmed up some during the day. I washed in A.M. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped Mon shut up the old sows & ring the young pigs & then Mon went over there & helped them the rest of the day. Ruth, Danny & I went up too Zoa's in P.M. too choir practice. We picked up a couple of crates of chickens tonite.

Wed. Sept. 24
Rather cloudy in A.M. & sprinkled a little but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Cold day. The wind blew quite hard. We went up & got Mama about 9:30 & went too Decorah. She & I each got a permanent. Mon got a hair cut. He took out Insurance on the car today. We went up town in eve. I went up too the Church too a Special Service presented by John Clinton. Not very many out. Had a lunch afterward. Got home a little after 10.

Thurs. Sept. 25
32º this morn. But didn't seem as if it froze much. Nice day but cool. Mon worked around here awhile in A.M. & then he went over & helped Howard put in some cement. He got home a little after 2 & then we went over & got Marion & they went too Prosper. I stopped at Mama's. Got home about 5. Cool nite.

Fri. Sept. 26
26º this morn. & frost on the grass & ice in the chickens drink dish. Froze the corn & beans. Nice day. Warmed up some. We went up & got Mama about 9 & went too Decorah, on business about her pension. We got home about 11:30. Mon took me over too Arthur's about 1:15 & I went with Ruth & Danny up too the 4 corners & rode from there too Club at Nora Gossman's with Lettie Wright. Large crowd out & we had a swell lunch. Arthur came over about 6 & helped us get the bull & a calf in the barn. Cool nite.

Sat. Sept. 27
32º this morn. Not so bad in A.M. but clouded up about noon & started too rain. Kept it up most of P.M. & in eve. Didn't rain as hard only once in a while. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning in eve. Dr. K. was here about 10 & then Mon went over too Arthur's too help with the corn cutting but when it rained he went up too B.O. Chas. Rosendahl was here after supper too sell us a car. Took us for a ride up too the pavement & back. We went up town after chores. I went up too Mama's. Mettie was there too.

Sun. Sept. 28
Not too nice a day although it was real nice at times. Cloudy part of the time & it rained quite hard for a little while in P.M. Warmer. We went over too Dean's & spent the day. Marion went with us. Claude's were there too. Had a good time & a good dinner & lunch. Linda is so much better. She doesn't cough very much now. Chas. Rosendahl came up in the plane early too try & sell the car.

Mon. Sept. 29
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day but cool & windy. Mon cut the beans today. We went up town in eve & I went too Dorothea Reids & met with the com. of the Joan of Arc too plan the food for the Sale at Steads. Cold nite.

Tues. Sept. 30
25º this morn. Not too nice a day. Sun didn't shine very much. Rather damp & chilly. I washed & ironed. Mon helped fill silo at Ludvig's all day. I went too choir practice with Ruth & Danny in P.M. at Zoa's. Danny has a cold.

Wed. Oct. 1
Not too bad a day & still not too nice. Arthur came over early in A.M. & helped us get some heifers in & then he came over after that with his corn binder & cut what corn Mon wanted cut. He got through about 3. Mon & I made some kraut in P.M. We went over & got Marion in eve & went up town. I went up too Mama's awhile. It rained some while we were up town. Leonard Dow came about 11 & took 1 cow & 5 heifers down too the Sale pavillion too be sold this P.M.

Thurs. Oct. 2
Nice day. Quite a lot warmer. Dean, Iona & Linda came over early in A.M. & spent the day. Dean helped Mon shock corn in A.M. & pile up beans in P.M. Marion was over in P.M. & Mon took him home after supper. Iona, Linda & I went over too Howard's a few minutes in P.M. Verna & Darlene were over a few minutes in eve. Rained a little in the nite.

Fri. Oct. 3
Quite nice until late in P.M. it clouded up. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning early in eve. Rained a little. Dean & Marion helped again today. They finished up the beans & corn. Mon took Marion home after supper. Aunt Eunice, Vin, Eunice & little Vin were here a few minutes in P.M.

Sat. Oct. 4
Nice day. Plenty warm. We went over & got Marion about 10:30 & went too Decorah. Large crowd in town & hot down there. Dean's were down there in P.M. & I ran around with Iona & Linda. I got a new black dress & new shoes. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Dean's were there awhile too. Verna went up town with us.

Dandy nice warm day. Warmest day on record for this time of year. I washed & ironed. Mon helped Ray Henning pile up beans. He got home about 2:30. Brought the corn picker home. We sacked up some oats & took them too Decorah & had them ground.

Tues. Oct. 7
Dandy nice day. Clouded up about 5 & we had quite a lot of thunder & lightning about 6:30 but only a very little rain. Got cooler when it clouded up. We went over too Dean's early in A.M. & Mon helped shock up the corn. They got through about 1:30 & we came home. Met Ruth, Danny & Mrs. K. at the 4 corners so I went up too Zoa's with them too choir practice & then they bro't me home afterward. We went up town a few minutes in eve.

Wed. Oct. 8
Nice day. Cool. Mon hauled manure in A.M. & painted his wagon box in P.M. Arthur & Ruth went too Cresco in P.M. & they left Danny here so we had a good time with him.

Thurs. Oct. 9
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. We picked corn in A.M. & I was outside most of P.M. Mon took Verna, Virginia & I too B.O. about 5:30 & then he came back home & did his chores & then came back up town after us. We went too the Lutheran L.A.S. dinner & Sale. The girls waited on table. Had a swell meal & some very nice articles too sell. I bought a pair of pillowcases ($2.75) We got home about 11:30. Danny took 2 or 3 steps alone today for the first.

Dandy nice day. Mon went up town early in A.M. & I went along up too Zoa's & met with her & Mrs. Arnold as the nominating comm. for the W.S.C.S. I went up too Mama's a few minutes when we were through up there. Stopped at Arthur's a minute on our way home. Mon hauled manure in P.M. We picked up some young roosters in eve, too sell. I had a letter from Isa today.

Nice day but some cooler. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Took some young roosters too town. I got my hair fixed. Had quite a time getting home. The car got too hot. Had too stop at Wright's & get some water in it & then it was boiling before we got home. We went up town while in eve. Verna & Darlene went with us. I went up too Mama's awhile. Olive was there too.

Nice day but cool. Didn't go too church. Mon didn't like too drive the car. Arthur bro't Danny over at noon & left him with us for the P.M. They came after him & stayed a few minutes.

Mon. Oct. 13
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur came over in A.M. & helped Mon get the corn picker ready too go & then after dinner they picked corn. Mon took the car up town early in A.M. & left it too get fixed.

Tues. Oct. 14
Dandy nice day. Mighty warm. More than 80º. Arthur came over & helped Mon stack beans today. They hitched Billy & Nancy on the hay rack & as it was the first time Billie had been on that it frightened him so badly the team ran. They didn't get away from Mon but they sure gave him a ride. Arthur jumped off as he had nothing too hang onto. The team ran into a telephone pole & knocked that down & that stopped them so Arthur & I ran up there & then they ran again down the road but Mon got them stopped again & then Arthur got in with him & they both got hold of the lines & drove them down in the hay field & they did let them run & made them run. They got quieted down then so they hauled in beans with them the rest of the day. Ruth & Danny came & got me in P.M. & we went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M. We stopped at Vines a minute on our way up town & stopped at Melvin Underbakke's a minute on our way home. They have a very nice baby. Harold C. brought the car home this morning. We went up town in eve a little while. Just got started for home when the darned car stopped so I went over & got Roy & he came too see what was the matter but they couldn't find out so he got his car & pushed ours down too the garage & then he & "Bent" bro't us home.

Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. Dean came over early in A.M. & helped Mon stack beans. They finished about 4. Arthur came over after me just after dinner & I went over & helped Ruth dress chickens & get ready for L.A.S. Ruth bro't me home about 4:30. Mon went too B.O. with Dean when he went home & then bro't our car home.

Thurs. Oct. 16
Dandy nice warm day again. We went over & got Marion about 10 & I went too L.A.S. at the M.E. church & the men went on too Prosper. Ruth, Muriel T., Margaret W. & Pauline Lang entertained. They sure had a good dinner & a big crowd. I came home with Ruth, Danny & Mrs. K. about 2:30. Dean, Iona & Linda were over too L.A.S. too dinner. Iona & Linda went too Phillys Stoskoff's in P.M. & Dean & Mon went too Decorah. Mon went too see about getting a new car.

Dandy nice day. We went out & picked a jag of corn in A.M. too open up the other field. Nearly roasted it was so warm. Mon hauled manure in P.M.

Sat. Oct. 18
Dandy nice warm day. We went over & got Marion about 10:30 & went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Iona, Dean & Linda came just as we finished supper & they stayed until we went up town. Iona washed her hair. I went up too Mama's awhile. Ruth & Danny were there & then Iona & Linda came so we had a big time.

Sun. Oct. 19
Beautiful day. Mon took me over too Ruth's & I went too church with her. Dean's came over here while we were at church & then Arthur's came so we had them all here once again. Arthur's went home about 3 but Deans' stayed until after 5. They took some pictures of the babies today.

Mon. Oct. 20
Dandy nice warm day. Mon took me up too the Stead Sale about 10. Joan of Arc served lunch. Quite a few of us out & we had a lot of fun with our work. Florence & Albert bro't me home. Got home at 6:15. We went up town after chores. Stopped at Arthur's awhile on our way up there. I went too a Show in the Hall. Moving pictures. But they had a lot of trouble with their machine & blowing out so many fuses so it got rather tiresome. Got out of there about 10:30. Run out of gas going up the hill west of Raymond H's. so we sat in the car & waited until someone would come along. Fred W. came along & he & Mon came over home & got some gas. They just got back & we got the gas in our car when a couple of drunks came along & crashed into Fred's car driving it into ours. Knocked me into the ditch. We argued with them awhile & then Mon & I walked over too Arthur's & called the sheriff & he came out. Took the one guy too jail & took the other one home. We got home a little after 1.

Tues. Oct. 21
Dandy nice warm day & windy. I washed in A.M. Mon helped pick corn with the picker at Arthur's all day. Ruth, Danny & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M.

Wed. Oct. 22
Nice day but plenty windy again. Mon helped pick corn at Arthur's in A.M. & went too Decorah in P.M. Lizzie & I rode over too Arthur's with him. A bunch of the neighborhood ladies met there in P.M. & made new curtains for the school house. We had a nice lunch & a nice time. We went up town a few minutes in eve. Got colder in the nite.

Thurs. Oct. 23
Nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & sprinkled some. Quite a lot of thunder & a beautiful rainbow. Mon picked corn at Arthur's all day.

Fri. Oct. 24
Misty & damp in A.M. Rained a little but was nice in P.M. until late it clouded up & was rainy. Rained most of the nite I guess but not too hard. Got cooler in the nite. Arthur, Dean, Iona & Linda came over early in A.M. & the boys helped Mon take care of the pigs. We have 79 young ones. Arthur went home as soon as they were through but Dean's stayed for dinner. Mon picked corn at Arthur's in P.M.

Sat. Oct. 25
Rather damp in A.M. & rained quite hard about 4 P.M. & then kept on raining until into the night. Mon went over too Arthur's early in A.M. & got the picker. Arthur came over too & they picked corn until about 11 & then we went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Dean's were down & I went with Iona too look for a new dress but she didn't find one. We didn't go up town in eve. Too rainy.

Sun. Oct. 26
Not very nice day. Mon took me over too Arthur's & I went too church with Ruth. It started too rain about 3:30 & kept it up off & on the rest of the P.M. & nite. Rained quite hard about 7.

Mon. Oct. 27
Rained off & on all day & rained very hard from about 4 P.M. on into the nite. Mon went up town early in A.M. & got the brakes on the car fixed. He hauled in the last of the beans when he got home. We went up town in P.M. I went up to Mama's.

Tues. Oct. 28
Damp dreary day again although the sun did try too shine about noon but it clouded up again & was rather moist in P.M. & eve. Mon started plowing in P.M. Ruth & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M.

Wed. Oct. 29
Dark dreary damp day again. Mon plowed all day. Ruth bro't Danny over about 4 P.M. & left him. They went too Decorah in eve too a meeting. They came after him about 12:30. We had a good time with him. Dave was here awhile at noon.

Thurs. Oct. 30
Another dark dreary day. The men picked corn here today. Mon took me over too Arthur's at noon & then Ruth drove up too the pavement & we went too Club at Catherine H's with Lettie W. Quite a few out. Had Initiation. Phyllis Wanless, Marlyn Quahm, Martha Breisprecher, Evelyn Underbakke & Dorothy Dumgaard joined. Had a lot of fun out of it. Had a swell lunch. Mon took me up too the School house in eve too the program & then he went on too B.O. & stopped for me on his way home. Quite a few out & a good program. Dean, Iona & Linda were over. Audry L. won the turkey. I got a letter from Isa today. Got a letter from the [Crovell?]-Collin Pub. Co.

Dark dreary day again. They picked corn here today.

Not very nice day again. Rather dark & dreary. The picked corn here in A.M. Finished that one piece about 11:30 & then we got ready & went too Decorah. Dave & Lizzie went with us. Large crowd in town. Mon got a hair cut. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's a while. Olive was up there too. We came home early.

Sun. Nov. 2
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon took me over too Arthur's in A.M. & then Ruth drove our car too church. We took Danny. They are installing a new furnace in the church so we had services at the parsonage. Quite a few out. I played the organ for church. Arthur's came over in P.M. & he & Mon changed a roller in the corn picker. They stayed for supper.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon plowed all day. Rained in eve.

Tues. Nov. 4
Rather a dark day again. Mon picked corn at Arthur's today. Ruth & Danny & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M. Rained hard in eve.

Wed. Nov. 5
Dark day again. Sprinkled some. Mon went over too Arthur's in A.M. but it was too wet too pick corn so he came home about 11:30. He hauled in some corn fodder & we hauled up what wood we had left, up by the door & he also hauled out some manure. Dean, Iona & Linda were over in eve. Had a good time with Linda. She gets around so much better now. We gathered up a couple of crates of young roosters in eve.

Thurs. Nov. 6
Not too bad a day but still not too nice. Rather chilly. Donald Stead was here early in A.M. too see about buying hens but he didn't buy. We went too Decorah as soon as he left. Got home about noon & had dinner & then Mon went over too Arthur's too pick corn. We went up town a little while in eve. It rained quite hard while we were up there & all the way home & on into the nite I guess. I went up too Mama's a little while.

Fri. Nov. 7
Cold windy day. Snow sprinkles off & on during the day but not enough too show up. Sun shone once in a while. Cleared off late in P.M. but the wind still kept up. Mon picked corn at Arthur's in A.M. He bro't Danny home with him after dinner. Arthur & Ruth went too Decorah. They came after him about 4. Snowed in the nite & got colder. Froze hard.

Sat. Nov. 8
About 20º this A.M. Cold windy day. Mon went over too Arthur's & then too B.O. early in A.M. We went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. Run around with Iona & Linda in P.M. looking for a dress for Iona but didn't find one. We bro't out a heating stove for Arthur's from Decorah. Rather late when we got home so we came on home with it & did up the chores early & then took it over there. Went on up town from there. I went up too Mama's awhile.

Sun. Nov. 9
Quite a nice day still windy but warm. It thawed quite a little. Mon took me too church in A.M. Vine's were here a few minutes in P.M. Gladys A. came down in eve & got me & we went too church. Not many out. A rather special meeting. I read a paper on "Diamonds in Brazil".

Mon. Nov. 10
Not very nice day. Snowed off & on in A.M. & then most of the P.M. Quite a lot of it melted as it fell though. Mon picked corn at Arthur's in A.M. but he came home after dinner & did odd jobs around here. Reardon's came just as we finished supper & got the old hens. Cold nite but still. Cleared off in eve. Verna was here a few minutes after supper.

Tues. Nov. 11
About 2º above zero. Nice day. I washed. Dean came over & helped Mon clean out the hen house in A.M. Mon helped pick corn at Arthur's in P.M. Ruth, Danny & I went too choir practice at Zoa's in P.M. We went up town a little while in eve.

Wed. Nov. 12
Cold, windy day. Sun shone at times. Art & Ruth bro't Danny over about 8:30 & left him & they went too Decorah. Ruth got a permanent. They came after him about 3:30. Mon did odd jobs, banked the house etc. We put the pullets in the hen house in eve. Put in 177. Cold nite.

Thurs. Nov. 13
10º above. Not too bad a day & not too good. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & went too B.O. in P.M. Arthur was here a minute just about supper time.

Fri. Nov. 14
Quite a nice day. Thawed quite a little. Clouded up late in P.M. Started snowing about 9 & kept it up all nite. Not too cold. About 3 or 4 inches of snow fell. Nice & wet. Mon picked corn at Arthur's. They finished there this P.M. The kids bro't Danny over about 5:30 & left him & they went too a party at Marylin & Adrian's. They didn't come after him after the party.

Sat. Nov. 15
Snowed all day. Not cold. Thawed all the time. Arthur's came over after Danny about 9:30. Arthur took Mon too B.O. in P.M. & got a new pair of chains for the car & some groceries.

Sun. Nov. 16
Quite a nice day. Thawed some. We went over too Marion's for dinner. Albert's, Dean, Iona, Linda & Philip were there to. Had a swell dinner & lunch.

Mon. Nov. 17
Very nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Quite a crowd in town. Dean's were down & we all had dinner together. I went with Deans up too "Lutz's" right after dinner & they had Linda's picture taken. Run around with Iona in P.M. Mary Willson was down with them so she was with us part of the time. We ran out of gas coming up the big hill. Ruth & Walter came along & Walter took Mon back too town & got some gas & Ruth stayed with me. It was about dark when we got home. Mon got a new oil burner tank heater.

Tues. Nov. 18
Not very nice day. Not cold though. Just dark & dreary. We went up town awhile in A.M. I went up too Mama's. Mon worked all P.M. getting the new tank heater installed & working. We went over too Arthur's awhile in eve.

Wed. Nov. 19
Another dark day again. Not cold though. Mon hauled in some fodder & filled in the cellar way. Mon put in his tank heater in P.M. & worked most of the time getting it started but he did get it going between 4 & 5. Little daughter born too [Imogine?] & Chas. Safford tonite.

Thurs. Nov. 20
Dark day again although the sun did try too shine a little in P.M. Warm. Thawed a lot. Mon took Elsie, Inez & I too Club at Iona M's. about 12:45. We were the nominating com. for Election of officers so we met beforehand too choose the officers. Quite a crowd out & we had a good lunch. Had Election of Officers Pres. Alice Wilbur, V. Pres. Vivian B., Sec. Margaret Ward, Asst. Sec. Nora Gossman & Tres. Fern R. I rode back too B.O. with Carol J. Stopped at Arthur's a few minutes on our way home. Arthur had gotten Ruth an electric waffle iron for their wedding Ann. & they had been making waffles so Ruth made us each one. Danny had a "Shot" today. We went over too Dean's in eve. Had too leave the car out at the road & walk in. Had fun with Linda. Saw the proofs of her pictures. They were very good. Got home about 11:30.

Fri. Nov. 21
Not a very nice day. Quite warm & a lot of our snow went. Most of it for that matter. Sun did shine some though. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & helped Dave saw wood in P.M. Mike Blaess was here in A.M. & again in P.M. Verna & Darlene were here in eve. Got colder late in P.M. Snowed some again in the nite.

Sat. Nov. 22
18º this morn. Warmed up some during the day but still chilly. We went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Wilma Barth & kids were there too. Little daughter born too Gloria & Harlan Whitney.

Sun. Nov. 23
About 2º above this morn but it warmed up quite a lot. Arthur & Ruth bro't Danny over about 12 & left him & they went out too dinner. (Went to Canton). They came back about 1:30 & then stayed for a while. Chas. W. was here awhile at noon. Harold Cox died about 5 P.M. Snowed some in the nite.

Mon. Nov. 24
About 12º above. Not very nice early in A.M. but turned out too be quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon hauled manure all day. Cleaned out the calf pen. Howard was here awhile early in A.M. We went up town a little while in eve. I went over too Josie Cox's.

Tues. Nov. 25
Not very nice day but not too bad. Mon took Ruth, Danny & I too choir practice in P.M. Ruth & Danny went over too Josie's a few minutes after practice. We went up town in eve. Ruby Halse, Carol [Ann?] & I went up too Mama's awhile. They had a duck "raffle" at Gene's. Quite a crowd out. Mon got 1 duck. We got home about 12. Cold nite.

Wed. Nov. 26
About 2º above. Quite a nice day it warmed up some. Mon took Ruth & I too Decorah. We all went too Harold Cox's Funeral at the Winn. Co'op Burial Home. Quite a crowd. Ruth & I sang "Some Time We'll Understand" & "Jesus Savior Pilot Me". We went over too Arthur's awhile in eve so I could help Ruth some. It snowed in the nite.

Thurs. Nov. 27
Thanksgiving Day. 12º above. Quite a nice day, until late in P.M. it started too snow & it snowed for awhile with the wind coming up & blowing the snow. We went over too Arthur's & spent the day. Claude, Olive, Leonard & Marion, Mama, Dean, Iona & Linda were there too. Had a swell dinner (Each bro't some) & lunch.

Fri. Nov. 28
10º below. Not very nice day. Started too snow about 10:30 A.M. & kept it up until late in P.M. & it sure snowed hard at times. Warmed up some during the day but got colder again at nite & cleared off. Was a beautiful nite. Arthur helped Mon sort the hogs early in A.M. & Chas. W. came about 10:15 & hauled the sows too Decorah. Mon went too Decorah too. He got home about 3:30. Got a hair cut. 12 sows weighed 4190 lbs. @ $23.75 per cwt. & bro't $995.08.

Sat. Nov. 29
10º below. Nice day but cold. We went too Decorah about 11. Large crowd in town & cold down there. Our car wouldn't start when we got ready too come home so we had the wrecker come & pull us for a few blocks & then it started O.K. We went up town a little while in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Cold, beautiful nite.

Sun. Nov. 30
12º below this morning but it warmed up quite a lot during the day. South wind & it was quite windy. Mon took Ruth & I too church after he got the car started. Had too pull it away's with the tractor.

Mon. Dec. 1
Nice day. Much warmer. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. Mon hauled in some corn fodder & feed in A.M. & went too Prosper in P.M. We went too B.O. in eve. There was a program of a play & music etc. at the Hall put on by people from Waukon. It was very good but not many out. Verna & Darlene went with us.

Tues. Dec. 2
Nice warm day but the sun didn't shine much. A lot of the snow went. We put on the storm windows in A.M. Ruth, Mrs. K. & Danny came & took me too choir practice in P.M. Mon was in B.O. when we got down town so I waited & came home with him. Froze tonite.

Wed. Dec. 3
Not too nice a day & still not too bad. Thawed some but it wasn't as warm as it had been. Arthur came over in P.M. & they picked corn with the picker. Didn't go too good but they got 2 loads out anyway. Not frozen enough under the snow. Dean, Iona & Linda were over in eve. Had lots of fun with Linda.

Thurs. Dec. 4
Not very nice day. Rained & snowed all day. Quite warm. Didn't do much of anything. Dressed the duck & a couple of chickens in A.M.

Fri. Dec. 5
Not so nice in A.M. Sun shone a little & it snowed some too. Was quite nice in P.M. Sun shone most of the time. Ray Henning was here awhile in A.M. & then he came down just after dinner & got the manure spreader. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. Pearl was here in P.M. Got a letter from Isa today. W.S.C.S. had their annual Sale & lunch this eve in the I.O.O.F. Hall.

Sat. Dec. 6
Not a very nice day. Rather damp & chilly although not really cold. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Quite a lot of ice & snow on the pavement so it wasn't safe too drive very fast although we did have chains on. Mrs. Hageman rode too Decorah with us from their place. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Ole A. rode home with us. Iona's 24th Birthday.

Sun. Dec. 7
Not very nice day. Rained most of A.M. Turned too snow about 1:30 & kept it up the rest of the P.M. Regular blizzard late in P.M. & eve. Warm until in the nite it got colder. Had quite a little thunder in A.M. Dean, Iona, Linda & Philip came over after church & stayed until about 4.

Mon. Dec. 8
8º this morn but it got colder during the day. Nice bright day but it was cool. We cleaned the hen house in P.M. Got the first pullet egg today. Cold nite.

Tues. Dec. 9
10º below this morn. Warmed up some during the day. Wasn't too bad a day. Mon hauled in some corn stalks in A.M. He took Ruth, Danny & I too choir practice in P.M. Arthur was up town getting his car fixed & he rode home with us. Howard took Pearl too La Crosse this A.M. & a baby boy was born too them up there in P.M.

Wed. Dec. 10
Not too nice a day. Mon took Arthur too B.O. in P.M. & he stayed up there awhile.

Thurs. Dec. 11
Quite a nice day & still it snowed some off & on during the day. Sun shone quite a little too. Quite warm. I washed. Mon went too La Crosse with Howard. They got home about 4:30. We went up town in eve. I met with the menu com. of the W.S.C.S. too plan the lunch for the Jim Headington Sale. Some from Kendalville came too B.O. in eve & they had a euchre tournament at Gene's. Mon played so we didn't get home until about 12. I helped Clara fix the lunch. She had hot roast ham sandwiches, pickles & coffee. It was a good lunch. Mabel [Blumahagen?] & Carl Schnitzler were married today.

Fri. Dec. 12
Not very nice day. Mon took Arthur too B.O. in A.M. Howard was over a while in P.M. Mon went over too Marion's awhile in P.M. too.

Sat. Dec. 13
Cold day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Pavement & roads plenty slippery. Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's. Olive was up there too.

Sun. Dec. 14
Danny's First Birthday. Quite a nice day. The sun shone quite a little & it thawed some. Mon took Ruth & I too Church. Mama came home too dinner with us & then we went over too Arthur's in P.M. too Danny's first party. Ruth had made him a cake & we had jello & sandwiches. Had a good time with Danny. We took Mama home about 4 P.M. Got colder in the nite & the wind blew quite hard.

Mon. Dec. 15
12 above this morn. Rather a cold windy day. Although it did warm up a little. Mon helped Arthur awhile in A.M.

Tues. Dec. 16
8º below this morn but it did warm up some during the day. I washed. Mon hauled in corn fodder in A.M. He took me too choir practice in P.M. We stopped at Arthur's & bro't Danny home with us. Arthur's went too Decorah in eve. They came after Danny about 12:30. Howard went too La Crosse today & Pearl & the baby came home with him.

Wed. Dec. 17
Not too nice a day. Mon went too B.O. awhile in P.M. I ironed. Went over too Howard's in A.M. too see the new boy. He is surely nice.

Thurs. Dec. 18
Rather a chilly day. Not too bad & not too good. Thawed some. We went over & got Marion about 10:15 & went too Decorah. Very large crowd in town. Mon & I went down too McArthur's & bought a new combination stove in P.M. "Western Holly". Mon also bought a ton of feed 148.00. I was over at Howard's a few minutes in eve & then he was over here & spent the eve.

Fri. Dec. 19
Not too nice a day. Cloudy but not too cold. Thawed some. Howard was over in A.M. We had an early dinner & then Howard came over with Mike & Harry & Mon took the tractor & rubber tired wagon & hauled our old stove over too Howard's. He bought it for them as their old stove was worn out. McArthur & his man came with our new stove about 2. Took them until after 4 too get it set up & installed. $267.57 installed. Its pretty nice. Dean, Iona & Linda were here in P.M. too. Arthur's bro't Danny over in eve & left him while they went too a party at Wayne Headington's. Had a good time with him. They came after him about 1.

Sat. Dec. 20
Quite a nice day. Thawed quite a little. We went too Decorah about 10:30 I got my hair fixed. Santa Claus was in town in P.M. so there was a very large crowd in town. Deans were down so I had Linda in the car awhile. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Addie & Ludvig rode home with us.

Sun. Dec. 21
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little again. Mon took Ruth & I too church in A.M. I went over too Howard's a while late in P.M.

Mon. Dec. 22
Very nice day. Thawed some. We went over too Dean's about 10:30. We made candy in P.M. Had a good time with Linda. Came home about 4. Dean gave me a Xmas tree.

Tues. Dec. 23
Nice day. I washed in A.M. Mon hauled in hay & corn fodder most of the day. Ruth, Danny & I went too choir practice in P.M. Went up too Mama's a little while after practice. Mon went up town awhile in eve. We put up the Xmas tree in eve & I decorated it while Mon was gone. Mon [bo't?] a duck up town.

Wed. Dec. 24
Nice day. I dressed the duck, It was picked but not drawn & did a lot of other things in A.M. Dean's were over in P.M. & helped make some candy. They bro't our Xmas presents & got theirs. Arthur was over awhile too while they were here. He bro't Xmas presents & got theirs from Deans & us. Mon went over & got Marion late in P.M. & bro't him over here for supper. Mart L. came while we were eating supper. We went up town in eve. We got rather badly frightened going up. Our car slid on the icy road & turned entirely around. Nobody hurt. I went too the Xmas program at the M.E. church. Sang in the choir. Very large crowd out & a good program. We took Marion & Mart home. Isa & Lester came too Mama's tonite. Mama & Isa were at the program. We opened our Xmas presents when we got home & we surely got some nice ones. Got both of our babies pictures & they are surely good.

Thurs. Dec. 25
Beautiful Xmas Day. Mon went up & got Mama & Lester's & they were here & spent the day. We took them home about 8. Howard was here a few minutes after we got home.

Fri. Dec. 26
Dandy nice day. Did cloud up a little in P.M. but it cleared off again. We went up & got Mama & Lesters about 11:30 & we all went over too Arthur's for dinner & spent the P.M. Had a lot of fun with Danny. Pearl & Sonny were here awhile in eve.

Sat. Dec. 27
Dandy nice day. We went up & got Lester & Isa about 10:15 & went too Decorah. Isa's Birthday. Quite a crowd in town. They came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile. Verna & Darlene rode home from town with us.

Sun. Dec. 28
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. We went up home & got the folks about 11 & went too Dean's & spent the day. Arthur's & Claude's were there too. Each took something too eat & we sure had a swell dinner & a good time. Lester came home with us. He went over too Dave's as soon as we got home & stayed until about 8.

Mon. Dec. 29
Not too nice a day & not too bad. The wind blew quite hard. I washed & ironed. Lester started husking corn here this morn. Mon took Marion too B.O. in P.M. Pearl was here awhile in P.M.

Tues. Dec. 30
Not such a nice day. Rather dark & stormy looking all day. Got quite a lot colder in the nite. Lester husked corn. Mon hauled in feed in A.M. & took a pig too Decorah in P.M. too have it butchered. I rode over too Arthur's with him & then went too choir practice with Ruth & Danny. No one out but us so not much choir practice. Mon stopped for me on his way home. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's awhile.

Wed. Dec. 31
Not a very nice day. Quite cold. Lester husked corn all day. Mon went up town awhile in P.M.
