Sat. Jan. 1
Beautiful day. Claude's & Mama were here & spent the day. Clyde stayed too. We had a good time. Stella Headington passed away this P.M.

Sun. Jan. 2
Beautiful day. Dean was over at Howard's in A.M. & then he went hunting in P.M. Mon walked over too Marion's in P.M. Arlin F. was here a few minutes in P.M. Ruth went back too Hammond today.

Mon. Jan. 3
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & then went too Prosper. They didn't get back here until about 1:30. They worked at the hen's nests in P.M. Dean helped Fritz saw wood up at Eddie's for Roy H. in P.M. Mon & Marion went up too Gust's a minute at supper time & then Mon took Marion home from there. We had 2 letters from Arthur today. Snowed some in the nite.

Tues. Jan. 4
Not such a nice day. Colder & the sun didn't shine so much. Snowed a little. Marion came over in A.M. & then we all went too B.O. in P.M. I went too Stella Headington's funeral at the M.E. Church. Mrs. K. & Mrs. Goodrick sang & I played. They sang "It Is Well With My Soul", "Rock of Ages".

Wed. Jan. 5
Cold day but nice & bright. Dave was over a little while in A.M. & then when he went home we went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed.

Thurs. Jan. 6
Quite a nice day but cold. We went up town in P.M. & Mon took me over too see Annie Halse a while in P.M. She is not very well. Dean went up too Ludvig's in eve & then they went too B.O. We had a letter from Arthur today. Cold nite.

Fri. Jan. 7
10 below this morn. Nice bright day but cold. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & he was here for supper with us. Mon went up & got Gust & Kate after supper & we all went over too Fred's. He & Jessie went up from town & he had his "annual beer party" for the people he threshed for. Not all of them out though. The men sure had a good time playing cards. Had a nice lunch. We got home about 1. Cold nite.

Sat. Jan. 8
10 below this morn. Nice bright day but cold. Warmed up quite a little during the day though. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Marion, Clyde & Allen rode down & back with us. Large crowd in town. Marion came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Not so many in town. Mon & I came home about 11:30. Dean came later.

Sun. Jan. 9
Quite a nice day. Dean went skating up on Vine's in P.M. awhile. Jim Douglas died this A.M.

Mon. Jan. 10
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a lot. I washed & ironed. The men did odd jobs & Dean was up in the woods cutting wood part of the day. We had 2 letters from Arthur today.

Tues. Jan. 11
Cold day. Mon went up too Fritz's & over too Louie's in A.M. He & Dean went too B.O. in P.M. Chas. Porter's Sale this P.M. but they didn't go. Clyde & Allen Q. came down in eve & played cards.

Wed. Jan. 12
Nice day but cool. Mon went over too Martin J's in A.M. & then drove over there in P.M. with the team & wagon & borrowed his boar. Dean cleaned the hen house in P.M. & put in fresh straw. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Got a letter from Ruth today.

Thurs. Jan. 13
Nice day. Somewhat warmer. Mon took Lizzie, Bernice & I to L.A.S. at the church. Not so many out but we had a good dinner. Dean went up too Ludvigs in eve & then up town. Jim Douglas was buried this P.M. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Fri. Jan. 14
Beautiful day. Just like spring. Mon & Dean worked in the woods all day.

Sat. Jan. 15
Nice day. We went too Decorah about 11. Ludvig & Mama went with us. Large crowd in town. We got home about 5:30. Went up town in eve. Mon & I came home about 11:30. Dean came later.

Sun. Jan. 16
Nice day & didn't do much. Dean went hunting in P.M. Harry & the kids were here in P.M. awhile. He & Mon divided the hay stacks.

Mon. Jan. 17
Nice day. I washed & ironed. The men worked in the woods most of the day. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Very warm day. Mike & Richard B. were here awhile in P.M.

Tues. Jan. 18
Not such a nice day but quite warm. The men worked in the woods in A.M. In P.M. the boar hurt another pig so it had too be butchered. Mike B. & Howard helped Mon. Dean didn't feel very good. We had a little calf this morn.

Wed. Jan. 19
Quite a little colder & not such a nice day. The wind blew hard all day. We cut up meat & ground lard most of the day. Fritz was here for dinner. We went up town in eve. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. Jan. 20
Dandy nice warm day. I tried out lard all day & canned 14 qts. of meat. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & too B.O. in P.M. Dean cleaned the hen house & did odd jobs. He went away in eve. We had another little calf this eve.

Fri. Jan. 21
Dandy nice day. The men did odd jobs in A.M. & worked in the woods in P.M. Got a letter from Ruth.

Sat. Jan. 22
Dandy day. We went over & got Marion about 11 & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Marion came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Didn't get home very early.

Sun. Jan. 23
Dandy nice day. Just like summer. Mon & I went over too Marion's for dinner. Albert, Florence & Norris were there. We went for a ride in P.M. up north to the State Line & around. Had a dandy ride. Came home about 6.

Mon. Jan. 24
Mon's 49th Birthday. Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. The men worked in the woods awhile in P.M. Harry Q. was here in A.M. I got a letter from Isa today.

Tues. Jan. 25
Warm day. Sun didn't shine much. Mon & Dean worked in the woods. Fritz was here awhile in A.M. We got a letter from Arthur today. Warm nite.

Wed. Jan. 26
Cloudy dark day but warm. Howard Bradley came up in A.M. with a car Hudson 41 too trade & was here for dinner & until after 3 but we didn't trade. The men worked in the woods awhile. We went over too Johnnie Carolan's in eve. The men went up town a little while & when they came home Ole came with them. They played cards. We had a nice lunch & a nice time. Got home some after 2.

Thurs. Jan. 27
Rained off & on all day & most of the A.M. it rained quite hard. The creeks were all up & there was water standing everywhere. We went too B.O. about 11:30. I went too L.A.S. at the M.E. church. Violet U. & Lottie Manuel entertained. Not so many out but we sure had a good dinner. Melvin U. was here assessing early in A.M. We got a letter from Arthur today. Dean went out in eve.

Fri. Jan. 28
Not very nice day. Cold & windy. Mon took me up town after dinner & I went from there with Muriel T. too Club at Fern's. Most of the members out. Had a dandy good lunch.

Sat. Jan. 29
Nice day. We went over & got Marion about 11:30 & went to Decorah. Large crowd in town. I went to the Show "Thousands Cheer". It was good. We got home about 5:30. Went up town in eve. Mon & I came home about 12 & Dean came later.

Sun. Jan. 30
Not very nice day. Not cold though. Tried too snow off & on all day. Dean went over too Howard's a few minutes. Little son born to Gene & Clara McCabe tonite.

Mon. Jan. 31
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Didn't do much. Mon & I went too B.O. in eve too a Shower Dance for Mr. & Mrs. Gerald Moran. Very large crowd out. Kenyon's played. Everyone seemed to have a good time. Arlin Falck & Ern Foltz's had a "scrap" just after supper which wasn't very nice. Howard Q. rode home with us. We got home about 2.

Tues. Feb. 1
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Had a big wash too. Mon hung out the clothes. He & Dean hauled out manure from the hog shed & down by the feeding rack. Dave was here in A.M. We got a letter from Arthur & one from Ruth today.

Wed. Feb. 2
Dandy nice day. Mon took me to B.O. about 11:30 & I went too Lutheran L.A.S. at the church. Catherine H., Gloria Y. & Mrs. Thompson entertained. Very large crowd out. Had a good dinner. Mon went over too Chas. Porter's in P.M. They sold the place. Martin Baulmer bought it for $6500. Mama was in B.O. so we took her home when we came home. We went over too Marion's in eve. Johnnie C's were supposed to be there but they didn't show up. Fritz K. was taken too Rochester this morn by ambulance. The Dr. thought he had appendicitis.

Thurs. Feb. 3
Nice day. Dean helped Gust saw wood today. They got thro' about 2:30. Mon did odd jobs. Dean went too B.O. in eve.

Fri. Feb. 4
Quite a nice day. Mon went too Prosper in A.M. He & I went too Decorah in P.M. & Mama went along. I got my hair fixed.

Sat. Feb. 5
Rained early in A.M. & then got colder after dinner & turned too snow. Quite blustery for a while. We went over & got Marion about 11 & went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Cold down there. We got home about 5. Went up town in eve. Dean didn't come home with us. We came home about 10:30.

Sun. Feb. 6
Quite a nice day. Dean was gone all day. Arlin was here for dinner & for awhile after dinner. Ettie Kinnison was buried at B.O. this P.M.

Mon. Feb. 7
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy day. The men did odd jobs all day. Cleaned the hen house etc. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. I got a picture frame for Arthur's picture from Ruth today for my Birthday & a Birthday card from her & Arthur also a Birthday card from Isa. Mama went too Iowa City today & from there she was going to Davenport.

Tues. Feb. 8
My 52nd Birthday. Dandy nice day only a little cooler. I washed & ironed. The men hauled in wood from the woods this P.M. Rev. Goodrick was here in P.M. Got a box of candy from Dean & Mon & a pie carrier from mama for my Birthday.

Wed. Feb. 9
Not such a nice day. Rather cloudy part of the time & quite a lot cooler. We sold 25 hogs too Knowlton this morn. Glen Rollins hauled them. Mon went up there & then on too Mabel & got his check cashed. Marion came just as dinner was about ready. We all went up town a while in P.M. I went over too Clara McCabe's awhile. The 25 hogs weighed 6380 lbs. @ $13.30 per cwt. & bro't $848.54

Thurs. Feb. 10
Snowed some & a regular blizzard at times although not enough snow too make it bad. Colder. We went too B.O. about 11:30 & I went too M.E.L.A.S. at the church. Iona & Margaret entertained. Quite a good crowd for the day. Dandy dinner. Marion rode up & back with us. We had another little calf today. I got a card from Ruth today. Cold windy nite but clear.

Fri. Feb. 11
Nice bright day but cold. Didn't do much of anything but what had too be done. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. We got a letter from Arthur.

Sat. Feb. 12
18 below this morn. Quite cold early in A.M. but warmed up some during the day. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Ruth & Walter went with us. Mon got a hair cut. I went too the Show in P.M. "Lost Canyon" & "Suez Canal". The first was good but I didn't like the last as well. We got home about 5. We went up town in eve. Came home early & the men listened too the radio. Cold nite. Got a letter from Isa today.

Sun. Feb. 13
Snowed off & on all day. Not so cold. Dean was up too Ludvig's today. Snowed in the nite some.

Mon. Feb. 14
Not cold until late in P.M. the wind got around in the north & was colder. Snowed most of the day off & on but not hard. Mon & Dean went too B.O. in P.M. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Tues. Feb. 15
Dandy nice day. Thawed some. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & we went out too Cresco. Took the radio out & got it fixed. Came home about 4 & Mon took Marion home. Harry & Vera were here awhile late in P.M. We went up town in eve. Marion went along. He, Mon & I went too the M.E. Church to a fish fry. Had a good supper. Quite a few out. Mr. Weigle was there with a couple of reels of pictures. Battles of Tunisia & Sicily. He also gave a talk. We stopped down town awhile after it was over. Got home about 12. Dean came later.

Wed. Feb. 16
Snowed off & on in A.M. but not cold. We went too Decorah about 2. Dean got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Chas. W. was here a little while just after dinner. Dean went over too Howard's a little while in eve.

Thurs. Feb. 17
Not so nice in A.M. but brighter in P.M. Got colder in P.M. & the wind blew quite hard. Cold nite. I washed & ironed. The men did odd jobs. Had another little calf today.

Fri. Feb. 18
12º below. Cold in A.M. but warmed up some in P.M. Nice day. Mon went over too Howards awhile in A.M. He & Dean went up too B.O. awhile in P.M. Harry's were here after school & got the pullets. They didn't go home until about 7. Gladys was here after school & got her order.

Sat. Feb. 19
Nice day. We went over & got Marion about 11:30 & went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. I went too the Show "Silver Spurs" & "The Mystery of the 13th Guest". We got home about 5:30 & had a letter from Cecilia telling us that Geo. was dead so Mon went right back to Marion's & told him & then bro't him home too supper with us. We went up town awhile in eve. Came home about 11:30. Dave was here in A.M.

Sun. Feb. 20
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon took me too church in A.M. Laymans Sunday & Mrs. K. was the minister. She was good. Albert, Florence, & Norris came over in P.M. & Mon & I went over too Marion's with them. Dean went away in eve. Had a little calf tonite.

Mon. Feb. 21
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. The men did odd jobs. I got a letter from Mama today. Rained hard in the nite.

Tues. Feb. 22
Rained most of A.M. & sometimes quite hard. Started too snow about 3 P.M. & snowed off & on then until eve. Didn't do much all day.

Wed. Feb. 23
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & he & Dean went too B.O. in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. I got a card from Aunt Alice & one from Annie Halse today.

Thurs. Feb. 24
Grand day. Thawed a lot. We went up town about 11:30 Bernice went with us & she & I went too L.A.S. at the church. Anita & Luella entertained. Good crowd out & a grand dinner. Fritz came home from Rochester today on the bus & he rode home from B.O. with us. Dean went up town in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Fri. Feb. 25
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained in eve. Quite a warm day. Thawed a lot. Mon, Bernice & I went too Club at Stella Halse's about 11:30. The families of the Club members were all invited too dinner. Had a dandy good dinner. Not too many out. Mon & Howard Rollins went too Decorah a little while in P.M. Had lunch down there before we came home. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Sat. Feb. 26
Not a very nice day. Very foggy in A.M. Rained quite hard in P.M. Not so cold though. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Got home about 5:30. Went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Feb. 27
Dandy nice day. Mon took me too church in A.M. Clyde was here all day.

Mon. Feb. 28
Cooler. Nice & sun shiney part of the day & cloudy part of the day. I washed & ironed. Mon went too B.O. & Prosper in A.M. He got home about 2. He cleaned the hen house in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve awhile. Mama came home from Davenport today.

Tues. Feb. 29
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy day. We sold 25 hogs too Lloyd this morn. Glen R. hauled them. Mon went too Prosper with the hogs. He & Dean hauled up wood in P.M. Dean went & helped Leonard Blaess with his moving in eve. He didn't get home until almost morn. 22 hogs weighed 4980 lbs. @ $13.30 & 3 weighed 640 lbs. @ $11.80 & they bro't $737.66. Mon sold Queen too the rendering works & the truck came & got her about 1 P.M. Hated too see her go but it was best for her.

Wed. Mar. 1
Not such a nice day, but not too cold. Sold the rest of the hogs today & Glen R. hauled them. Mon & Dean went with them. I rode up town with Roy's later & went too the Lutheran L.A.S. at their church. Audry, Ruby R. & Gladys Reed entertained. Good crowd & a dandy dinner. 17 hogs weighed 3480 lbs. @ $13.30 & 1 hog weighed 121 lbs. @ $11.50 & bro't $482.39. I got a letter from Cecilia & one from Ruth.

Thurs. Mar. 2
Not such a nice day, but not cold. We went too Decorah about 11:30 & Lizzie went with us. She went down too see a doctor & Mon & I took her down too see Dr. Kuhn & he gave her an examination. I had my hair fixed. Mon took me down too the Hospital in P.M. too see Opal Allen & her baby. We got home about 4:30. We went up town in eve. The Odd Fellows entertained their ladies. We played cards & other games. Had a good time & a good lunch. We got home about 1. We finished paying for our place today so it is all our own now & it seems mighty good too.

Not very nice day. Cloudy & dark. The men did odd jobs.

Sat. Mar. 4
Not such a nice day. But not too bad. We went over & got Marion about 11 & went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Mart Leonhart & Anita Hagaman rode home with us. We went up town in eve. Large crowd in town up there too. We came home about 12:30 & Dean came a little later.

Sun. Mar. 5
Rather dark day & kind of chilly. Maxine & Arlin came over for dinner. She & I went over too Dave's awhile in P.M. Sam's, Bernice & Carmen were there. M. & A. went home about 6. It started too snow about 8:30 & kept it up all nite I guess.

Mon. Mar. 6
Snowed very hard in A.M. but not cold. The wind changed about noon & started too blow & then we did have a blizzard. Got much colder in P.M. Didn't do much. Wind blew hard all nite.

Tues. Mar. 7
10º above this morn. Dandy nice blizzard all day. Wind blew hard all day & nite. Mon & Dean went up town a little while. Not much snow in the road except down by the corner a little drift & they tore up a chain in there coming home. Arthur W. was here a few minutes after supper. Mail man didn't come today.

Wed. Mar. 8
Zero this morn. Nice bright day but the wind blew hard all day. Rather blustery late in P.M. The men got the sled out & hauled up hay & wood too the house. The snow plow went by here early this morn so the mail man came today.

Thurs. Mar. 9
5º below this morn. Cold day but bright. We went up town about 1:30. I went too L.A.S. Fern & Miriam entertained. Quite a crowd out & they had a swell dinner. Mon & Dean went back up town in eve. Fritz & Marion went along. Work at Lodge so they attended.

Fri. Mar. 10
Grand day. I washed & ironed & scrubbed. The men did odd jobs in A.M. & Dean helped Fritz in P.M. Rained hard in the nite & took most of our snow.

Sat. Mar. 11
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. Snowed some in P.M. too. Cleared off in eve & was nice but cold. We went too Decorah about 11. Large crowd in town. Dean got a hair cut. Mon got a new pair of work shoes. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12.

Sun. Mar. 12
Nice day but windy & cool. Thawed quite a little too. Clyde was down for dinner & then Dean went up there in P.M. Harry, Virginia & Arthur were here awhile in P.M. to get some water. There pump is broken.

Mon. Mar. 13
Dark dreary day. Rather damp but not too cold. The men hauled in hay & wood in A.M. & cleaned the hen house. Mon went too School Election in P.M. Joe Wilhelm was put back as director. Rained in the nite.

Tues. Mar. 14
Slippery as all get out all day. Not too cold but a dark, dreary day. Dean went over to Howard's in P.M. & they went up town a little while. Got a letter from Ruth today.

Wed. Mar. 15
Not a very nice day. Still plenty slippery. Tried too rain off & on all day & eve. Mon & Dean went too B.O. a little while in P.M. Snowed some in the nite.

Thurs. Mar. 16
Not very nice day. Snowed some early in A.M. Leigh Halse & Uncle Geo. were here awhile in A.M. Leigh bought a heifer. We went to Decorah in P.M. awhile. I got my hair fixed & Mon got a hair cut. Dean went up too Ludvig's in eve & then on up town.

Fri. Mar. 17
Not too bad a day. I washed & ironed. The men hauled up wood. Mon & I went up town in eve. I went up too Rev. Thompson's where they were practicing for Easter. Got home about 10:30.

Sat. Mar. 18
Quite nice but chilly. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & we left here about 10:30. Stopped & got Mama & went to Decorah. Mon & Fred bought seed oats at Novotny's & they went down there after them. Richard B. was too haul them about noon but he never came until about 3 P.M. so they were down there all that time waiting. Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. Quite a few in B.O. too. Saw Nellie & Henry Aaby, they bro't Annie H back tonite. Mon & I came home about 1 & Dean a little later.

Sun. Mar. 19
Quite a nice day, but chilly. Thawed quite a little too. Mon took me too church. Dean went up too Ludwig's.

Mon. Mar. 20
Nice day. I washed & ironed. The men hauled up wood in A.M. Mon went up too Fritz in P.M. too a school meeting & Dean finished hauling up the wood. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. We had a letter from Arthur today & one from Isa.

Tues. Mar. 21
Nice day. Thawed a lot. We went too Decorah awhile in P.M. Very large crowd in town. Snowed in the nite.

Wed. Mar. 22
Nice & warm but snowed quite a little. Cloudy all day. Didn't do much.

Thurs. Mar. 23
Dandy nice day. Thawed most of the snow away so it was plenty sloppy. We went up town about 11:15. I went too M.E.L.A.S. Mrs. Krumm & Margaret Ward entertained. Large crowd out & a dandy dinner. Dean went up too Ludvig's in eve.

Fri. Mar. 24
Quite a nice day. Did a little of everything. The men did all kinds of jobs. Had a card from Ruth today.

Sat. Mar. 25
Quite a nice day but cool. We went too Decorah about 11. Mama went along too. We went up town in eve. Quite a few in town. Came home about 1. Jack Whalen rode home with us. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Sun. Mar. 26
Rather cloudy & dark until in P.M. it started too snow & kept it up all nite I guess. Mon took me too church in A.M. Dean went up too Ludvigs.

Mon. Mar. 27
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy day. The men did odd jobs & then cut some wood. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Louie K. was here a while after dinner on the Red Cross drive.

Tues. Mar. 28
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. The men cut & hauled up wood. Snowed again in the nite.

Wed. Mar. 29
Quite a blizzard at times all day. Not so cold though. The men went up too B.O. in P.M. Got a letter from Ruth today.

Thurs. Mar. 30
Not such a nice day. Mon, Dean & Fritz went too Decorah in P.M. & then too B.O. in eve too Lodge. I cleaned up the house a little.

Fri. Mar. 31
Dandy nice day. I had Club this P.M. Only about a doz. out. Had a good time. Mon & Dean helped Art W. saw wood in P.M.

Not such a bad day but chilly. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Quite a few up there. Mon & I came home about 12 & Dean came a little later.

Quite a nice day but cool. Mon took me too church in A.M. Dean went over too Ed Knoke's with Clyde in A.M. & then other places in P.M.

Nice day but cool & windy. I washed & ironed. Mon went too B.O. just after dinner & got Philip S. & he came down & dehorned some calves. Mon took him back too B.O. afterward. Dean went over too Chas. W's. in P.M.

Tues. Apr. 4
Dandy nice day but a cold wind. Dean went too La Crosse with Ed Knoke's about 8:30 A.M. & got back after we were in bed. Mon helped at a "Bee" cutting wood for Harry's in P.M. Grace B., Verna & Darlene were here in eve. Got a letter from Isa today.

Wed. Apr. 5
Dandy nice day. The men did odd jobs. I went over too Pearl's awhile in P.M.

Thurs. Apr. 6
Dandy day. Mon took me too L.A.S. at the church for dinner. Very large crowd out. Ada & Ella R. entertained. Mon went fishing in P.M. He didn't catch any but Bill & O'Dean gave him some. We went up too Lodge in eve. The men entertained the ladies. Quite a few out & we had a good time. We went with Roy's. Got home about 1. Ruth came home tonite.

Fri. Apr. 7
Dandy nice warm day. Ruth was over in P.M. awhile. Got a letter from Harlan today.

Sat. Apr. 8
Dandy nice warm day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Lizzie & Mama went with us. Mon & Dean each got a hair cut. Very large crowd in town. Ruth was in town & she came home too supper with us. We took her home about 10. Dean went up town in eve. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Sun. Apr. 9
Nice day only a little cooler. I went too church with Roy & Bernice. Mon, Dean & Clyde went fishing all day. Came home with a nice string. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Quite a nice day but windy & cooler. Dean helped Roy a little while in A.M. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. We got a letter from Arthur today. Written on Mch. 5th.

Tues. Apr. 11
Rather cold & quite windy. We went too Cresco in P.M. Took the radio out & had it fixed again. The men looked for a tractor too. We came home by way of Ridgeway. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We had another little calf tonite.

Wed. Apr. 12
Dandy nice day. I washed. Mon & I went over too Albert's in P.M. awhile. We went up town a little while in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 13
Dandy day until late in P.M. It rained from about 5:30 on into the nite. We sawed wood in A.M. Chas. W. sawed for us. The men helped Howard saw in P.M. I got a letter from Harlan.

Fri. Apr. 14
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. The men split wood awhile & then they went up town in P.M. Arthur Walter got his divorce from Loretta today.

Sat. Apr. 15
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & then started too snow late in P.M. & kept it up most of the nite. Rather chilly. Mon went over & got Marion & we went too town about 11. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Late in eve Alberta & Roy came up from Davenport too Arthur Smiths & a few of them went down there & gave them a chiravari. Roy gave them $10. We got home about 2.

Sun. Apr. 16
Dandy nice day. Most of our snow went. Mon & Dean took me too church in A.M. Dean went down on the creek in P.M. He bro't me some flowers. The bunch that chiravaried Bert & Roy came down here in eve with a keg of beer & pop & sandwiches & such & we had a party. Played cards & had a good lunch. They went home about 2.

Mon. Apr. 17
Dandy nice day but quite windy. The men did odd jobs & split some wood. I spent most of the A.M. cleaning up the house & washing dishes.

Tues. Apr. 18
Dandy nice day. Dried up a lot. Mon & I went too Decorah in A.M. Got home about 1. We worked raking the lawn & cleaning it up in P.M. Dean mowed it & then we raked. The men split some wood. Dean went over too Howards in eve.

Wed. Apr. 19
Mama's Birthday 73. Quite a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Rained in the nite. I washed & ironed & raked yard in P.M. Dean helped Fritz bail hay up at the other place all day & Mon helped in P.M. Mon went up too Fritz & over too Louie K. in A.M. Bill & Edna L. were here & spent the eve. I had a letter from Ruth today. Had a little calf tonite. Bess Cameron died tonite.

Thurs. Apr. 20
Not very nice day. Rained off & on. Didn't do much of anything. Roy was over a while in eve. Uncle Albert passed away very suddenly this P.M.

Fri. Apr. 21
Dark, dreary day but it didn't rain until in the nite. Dean helped Roy saw wood all day. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & up town in P.M.

Sat. Apr. 22
Dreary dark day again. We went too town about 10:30 Marion & Mama went along. Very large crowd in town. We got home about 5:45. Rained some on the way home. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12:30. Got a letter from Arthur today. He is in Corsica now.

Sun. Apr. 23
Not very nice day although the sun shone for a while in P.M. Had quite a storm about 5 P.M. Rain, hail & wind. Mon & I went too B.O. too Uncle Albert's funeral at the M.E. church at 2 P.M. Mon was a pall bearer. We went down too Aunt Lissa's too lunch after the funeral too see the folks.

Mon. Apr. 24
Dean's 24th Birthday. Not very nice day. Damp & dark. Dean went for a horseback ride in P.M. Clyde, Howard & Allen were here awhile in eve & then Dean went up town with them. Bess Cameron's funeral was at the Lutheran Church in Decorah today & the burial at B.O. Mon has a cold so we didn't go. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Tues. Apr. 25
Not very nice day. Damp & dark. Mon went up town in P.M. Dean went over too Howards in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today. Chas. Wernett & Mrs. Dorothy Mailey were married this A.M.

Wed. Apr. 26
Dark & cool but not quite so damp. It cleared off late in P.M. The men hauled up hay & cleaned out the pit in the hen house & the rest of the house. They went up town in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 27
Dandy nice day. I washed in A.M. Dean mowed the lawn. Mon split wood & they did other odd jobs. We went too Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed & Dean got a hair cut. We went up town in eve. Roy's, Ed Arnold & Fritz went with us. The men went too Lodge. [Meadie?] & Harold Harvey are here & they had a party for them after Lodge. We played cards & visited. Had a nice lunch. Got home about 12:30.

Fri. Apr. 28
Dandy nice day. Dean worked all day at Roy's running the tractor. Mon took me too Club at Ella Reed's in P.M. Good crowd out. Maxine Falck, Gladys Knoke & Hannah Melvin were initiated. Had a dandy lunch. We got a letter from Arthur & one from Ruth today.

Sat. Apr. 29
Dandy nice day. Dean worked at Roy's all day & Mon worked there in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. Jessie Walter Marion & Mama went with us. Jessie & Fred are out at the farm during the busy time. Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. Came home about 12. Dean came later.

Sun. Apr. 30
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Had quite a storm about 6:30. Rain & hail. We went down too Claude's & spent the day. Had a good time. Mama was there too.

Mon. May 1
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean helped Roy in P.M. & they got through & got over here too work about 5. Mon & I went up town a little while in eve. The kids were out tonite for May Basket hanging. Got a card from Alberta & Roy & cards of thanks from Aunt Eunice & family.

Tues. May 2
Nice in A.M. but clouded up & rain in P.M. Sometimes quite hard. The men worked in the field in A.M. It cleared off for a while late in P.M. & eve.

Wed. May 3
Not very nice day. Rained most of the day & sometimes quite hard. We went up town about 11:30 & I went too Lutheran L.A.S. Gladys Knoke, Minnie Leistikow & Mrs. [Caester?] entertained. Good crowd & a good dinner. We went too Decorah in P.M. Gladys Blaess went with us. Pauline Reed & [Anna?] Whalen rode home with us.

Thurs. May 4
Rained off & on all day. Snowed some early in A.M. & late in P.M. & in the nite. Mon took Lizzie, Bernice & I too M.E.L.A.S. for dinner. Florence E. & Maxine entertained. Quite a few out & we had a grand time. Dean hauled manure & Mon helped him after we got home. Bill Leonhart was here in A.M. awhile. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Fri. May 5
Ground covered with snow this morn & it snowed lightly until about noon. Not very nice day. The snow all melted in P.M. The men hauled up hay & wood & hauled manure. O'Dean L. & Billie Lange were here & got hay in A.M. & Chas. W. was here at noon. We had a letter from Arthur today. Got much colder late in P.M.

Sat. May 6
Everything covered with frost & cool. Froze ice on the puddles & stock tank. Warmed up some during the day but not too warm. Sun shone some. We went over & got Marion about 11:30 & then stopped & got mama & went on too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Went up town in eve. Mon & I went too Mabel a few minutes in eve. We came home about 12.

Sun. May 7
Cloudy day but not so cold. Rained in the nite. Mon took me too church. Florence, Albert, Norris & Marion were here for dinner & then we went down on Silver Creek in P.M. Found lots of flowers & the men fished. They got quite a few. Had lunch about 7 & then they went home. Dean went up too Fritz's in eve & watched the Vine boys plow. Had 8 little pigs today.

Mon. May 8
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off late in P.M. & was nice also in eve. The men hauled hay & manure & did odd jobs all day. Got a letter from Isa & a card from Alice Seelye.

Tues. May 9
Not very nice in early A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon & I went up town right after dinner & sent a box too Arthur. The men worked in the field in P.M. Had 13 more little pigs.

Wed. May 10
Dandy nice day but quite windy. I washed & ironed. The men worked in the field. They got done discing about 3 & Mon went over too Roy's too work. We went over too Roy's in eve awhile. Mr. Klinker came out today & put lights on the tractor so the men wanted too see how they would work so Dean disced awhile. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. May 11
Dandy nice day. Dean worked at Roy's. They got Duke in this morn so Mon used the 3 horses & dragged. We went up town a little while in eve. Went up too Mama's a minute. She came home from Aunt Lissa's today.

Fri. May 12
Nice until about 11. Had quite a shower then & then it brightened up until about 4 when we had another shower but it cleared off after that again. Mon sowed grass seed & Dean dragged until the rain. We went up too the school house at noon for the last day picnic dinner & program. Bernice went with us. Had a dandy good dinner & a large crowd out. They had a good program. Dean went over too Roy's after we got home. Mon dragged. He finished this P.M. Dean went back to Roy's & disced after he got his chores done for a while. I had a Mother's Day card from Ruth today.

Sat. May 13
Nice day. Dean worked at Roy's all day. Mon went & got Mart L. early in A.M. Had a sick sow & Mart fussed with her until in P.M. Mon went over & got Marion about 11:30 & we went too Decorah about 12:30. Quite a crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12.

Sun. May 14
Mother's Day. Mon & I went down to Albert Emery's about 5:30. Dandy nice warm day. Mon went down & got Mart again this morn & they fussed with the sow again until about 11. Mon & I went up too Mama's for dinner. Dean & Clyde went down on the creek. Mart & Kate were here late in P.M. Gene McCabe & family were here in eve.

Mon. May 15
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. Dean worked at Roy's in A.M. & came over here at noon & started discing. Albert Emery came this morn too fix the pump & he & Mon worked at that until about 2:30. Then Mon rode the disc awhile & Dean mowed the lawn & did a lot of odd jobs. They went out too disc after chores but a shower came up so they quit.

Tues. May 16
Had quite a shower about 4 A.M. but it cleared off & was a dandy nice warm day. I washed & ironed. Mon disced here until noon & he finished then & Dean went too Roy's in P.M. The one old sow died this morn & the rendering truck came up & got her in P.M. Another one is sick & Mon had Dr. K. come up in P.M. too see her but he couldn't do anything. Mama, Aunt Eunice, Vin & Eunice & the baby were here a little while in P.M. Had a letter from Ruth today. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Wed. May 17
Nice day. A little cooler. Mon & Dean went over too Roy's early in A.M. too fix the tractor & then Dean worked there until about 5. He came home with the tractor & started plowing here. Mon went up town a few minutes in A.M. He started planting corn at Roy's in P.M. Gladys A. was here awhile after supper.

Thurs. May 18
Had a hard shower early in A.M. & it was cloudy & windy & cool most of the day. We went over & got Marion & went too Decorah about 11:30. Very large crowd in town. Dean got a hair cut. He went too B.O. in eve with Quandahl's. Hard storm most of the nite. Thunder, lightning, wind & hard rain.

Fri. May 19
Not so nice early in A.M. but it brightened up some during the day. Cool all day. Dean went over too Roy's too plow in P.M. but it was too wet. They mowed the lawn in P.M. & Mon spaded up the garden spot. Had another little calf today. Storm again in the nite.

Sat. May 20
Not such a bad day. Plenty warm. Looked stormy part of the time. The power was off until 11:45 so we couldn't separate until then. We went too Decorah about 12:30. Very large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12. Arthur Walter & Mae Sande were married today. It rained in the nite.

Sun. May 21
Rained off & on all A.M. but wasn't so bad in P.M. We went up town about 10. I went too church. Dean was over at Roys' & Howards in P.M.

Mon. May 22
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off later & was a dandy nice day. Mighty warm. Mon & Dean went over too Roy's early in A.M. & were there until about 11:30 when Mon came home but Dean worked in the field over there. Mon went over there after dinner & helped Roy drive his cattle too pasture at Whalen's. He went over there & planted corn after they got back from driving cattle. Gust came down in P.M & got the manure spreader. Got a card from Ruth. Rained some in the nite.

Tues. May 23
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Rained some about supper time. Looked like we would have quite a storm in eve but we didn't. Dean went over & got the tractor & plowed here all day. Mon plowed in eve. Mon went over too Roy's this morn & finished planting that piece of corn & got back here & started planting before dinner. Roy dragged here all day. We got a letter from Arthur. Had our last little pigs this P.M. She had 8 so that makes us 67.

Wed. May 24
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Not too hard though. Dean plowed here all day. Finished about 5. Roy was here in A.M. but went home at noon too go too Decorah. He got back here about 4 & finished the dragging. Mon planted corn. Mon & I went up town in eve a while. Dean went over to Howard's. I got a card from Isa.

Thurs. May 25
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean worked at Roy's. Mon planted corn & finished that piece about 5 & dragged after that.

Fri. May 26
Sprinkled some during the day but not too much. Mon dragged most of the day. Dean worked at Roy's. Mon took me too B.O. after dinner too Club at Dorothea Reed's & came after me again about 5:30. Quite a crowd out too Club & a dandy lunch.

Sat. May 27
Dandy nice day plenty warm. Dean worked at Roy's. Mon went over & got Marion about 10:30 & we went to Decorah. Mon got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. We came home about 1. Addie & Allen Q. rode home with us. Dean came just after we got too bed.

Sun. May 28
Very nice in A.M. but it clouded up about noon & we had a shower. Dean went with Clyde & Allen & a bunch of the kids on a weiner roast. He & Mon went over too Johnnie C's. early in A.M. & got his tractor & they plowed here. Johnnie came over after church & he bro't Gladys & the kids & they were here until about 7.

Mon. May 29
Dandy nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & looked mighty stormy but didn't storm. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean were at Roy's. Johnnie C. came after his tractor early this A.M. & was here for breakfast.

Tues. May 30
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. Mon & Dean were at Roy's all day. Mon & I went up town a little while in eve. Rained hard in the nite. Lots of thunder & lightning & rain.

Wed. May 31
Pretty warm day. Nice & bright too. Dean worked at Roy's most of the day. Mon & I went too Decorah about noon. Dean went to B.O. in eve.

Thurs. June 1
Had a hard storm about 5 this morn. Lightning was pretty bad. Dean plowed here. Mon started planting corn at Roys about 3 P.M. Mon went up town with Roy in eve.

Fri. June 2
Nice warm day. Dean finished plowing here this P.M. Mon planted corn at Roy's. Dean & Roy went too Decorah in eve too get a piece for the hitch on the disc welded.

Sat. June 3
Mighty warm day. Mon finished planting corn at Roy's about noon. Dean disced here & Roy dragged. Mon, Mama & I went too Decorah about 2:30 & mama came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Got home about 12:30. Alice Seelye died very suddenly about noon today.

Sun. June 4
Looked rainy all day. Sun shone at times & then it would cloud over. Pretty warm. Mon took me too church in A.M. Dean went up too Ludvigs. Rained hard in the nite. The Allies took Rome today.

Mon. June 5
Cold windy day. Dean disced & Roy dragged here & Mon started planting corn in the middle of A.M. He took Bernice Lizzie & I too B.O. at noon too Alice Seelye's funeral at the M.E. church. Quite a few out. Had beautiful flowers. Rev. Weed of Decorah talked Shirley E. & Lillian Smith sang. Roy came after us. Dean was over at Howard's in eve. Rained some in the nite. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Tues. June 6
D. Day. Invasion into Western Europe began at 3:09 this morn. Cold & windy & dark & damp in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice & sunny but still cool. Dean worked at Roy's. Mon finished planting corn today. Arthur Smith was here awhile in P.M. Had a letter from Isa & another letter from Arthur.

Wed. June 7
Quite a nice day. Much warmer. I washed & ironed. Dean worked at Roy's. Mon dragged the corn & also dragged the bean ground. Mon, Bernice & I went up town in eve. Saw Raymond Henning. He is home on a furlough.

Thurs. June 8
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & started too rain about noon & rained the rest of the day & nite I guess. Mon & Dean helped Roy in A.M. Mon went over & got Marion when he got home from Roy's & Marion had dinner with us & then we went too Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed & Dean got a hair cut.

Fri. June 9
Rained most of the day. Cold too. Didn't do much. Mon & Dean went up town in P.M. awhile. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Sat. June 10
Sun shone some but not too nice a day. We went too Decorah about 12. Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12. Mr. Hillman died suddenly this P.M. Cady Potter & Luella [Dornel?] were married today.

Sun. June 11
Rained most of the day & some times quite hard. Rained hard in the nite too. Mon & Dean took Bernice & I too church in A.M.

Mon. June 12
Quite nice most of the day. Much warmer. Sprinkled some times during the day. Had quite a storm about 7 P.M. Hard wind, rain & lightning & thunder. Mon mowed weeds off & on all day. We got the brooder house ready for the chicks in P.M. Dean helped Louie K. saw wood for a while in P.M. Fritz was here in A.M. on the 5th War Bond Drive. Louie was here awhile in A.M. too. We had a letter from Arthur today but it was a month old. Had a letter from Isa too.

Tues. June 13
Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard until about 4 P.M. It cleared off then & was sure nice the rest of P.M. & nite. Mon & Dean went up town in P.M. Ruth walked over & spent the P.M. Clyde & Allen came down in eve & then Dean walked up town with them.

Wed. June 14
Nice day but mighty warm. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean fixed fence in A.M. Dean dragged in P.M. We went up town awhile in eve. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. June 15
Mighty warm day. Mon planted beans in A.M. & Dean plowed corn in P.M. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. & got 410 little chickens. Got home about 6. Had a very hard storm just after we got home. Hard wind & lots of rain thunder & lightning. Jimmie Weldon & Minnie Winters were married today.

Fri. June 16
Not too bad a day but mighty hot. Fussed with the chickens most of the day. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Mrs. K., Ruth & La Vern Q. were here a little while just after supper.

Sat. June 17
Had a bad storm about 2 this morn. Wind thunder & lightning & rain. Power went off about 2:15 & didn't come on until 8:30 P.M. Mon & Dean went over & did Louie's milking about 10. He was at Riceville after Kenneth's wife. Mon went over & got Marion about noon & we went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Jimmie W. & Mrs. Q. rode home with us. Got home about 12. Had a letter from Arthur today.

Sun. June 18
Hot day. Looked pretty rainy in P.M. but just sprinkled some. Ruth had some friends up from Waterloo & Mon & I went with them for a picnic at Cold Water. Ruth & Wayne each caught a trout even if the water was muddy. Dean was at Ludvigs in day time. He went over too Howards in eve. Got much colder tonite.

Mon. June 19
Much cooler today. Quite nice but windy. Dean plowed corn with the 2 row all day. Mon did odd jobs.

Tues. June 20
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. I washed & ironed. Dean plowed corn. Mon went up too Gust's in A.M. & fixed the manure spreader. Kate called & wanted Dean & I too come up there for dinner so Mon & Roy came down & got us. Had a dandy good dinner. We came home about 2:30. Went up town in eve. There was a farewell party for Rev. Goodrick's at the church in eve & I went. Quite a crowd out. They had a nice program & a good lunch. Got a letter from Isa. Jim Murdock came up this morn & culled the hens. He didn't cull out many. 21 hens & I sold 2 roosters.

Wed. June 21
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. Dean plowed corn. Mon did odd jobs. Got another letter from Isa.

Thurs. June 22
Nice day & warm. Clouded up in P.M. & we sure got a storm about 6. Hailed & rained & the thunder, lightning & wind were a plenty. About 5 ¾ inches of rain fell. Hail broke the north window in the kitchen. Hailed about 15 or 20 min's & some great big ones. Finished the corn, oats & hay. Took the leaves off the trees too. Water everywhere so much rain fell. Dean plowed corn. Mon went up town awhile in P.M. We went too Bluffton after the men got the chores dones, too see the high water. Dave rode down with us.

Fri. June 23
Nice day but cool. The men fixed fence in A.M. They went up town in P.M. Ruth came over in P.M. & stayed for supper. We had a good time. We took her home about 11. Harley Aaby was drowned today.

Sat. June 24
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon went up too Fritz & over too Louie's in A.M. & then we went too Decorah. I got a permanent & each of the men got a hair cut. We got a box from Arthur & I called Ruth & she came over & we opened it & got our presents. I got a bed spread & gloves & spoon. Dad & Dean each got a tie & Ruth got gloves & pins. We were sure glad too get it. We went up town in eve. Addie & Ludvig rode home with us. Dean went too Calmar with Clyde after Jeane K. so it was morn when he got home.

Sun. June 25
Nice day. Plenty warm. Mon & I went over too Marion's for dinner. Albert's were there too. Had a strawberry dinner & of course other good things. In P.M. we all went over to Beaver Pond where they were [siming?] out the carp & suckers. Mon, Marion & Norris went in our car & the rest of us in Alberts. We went for a ride after we left B.P. Had lunch at Marions when we got back. Dean went with Quandahl's hauling machinery all day from Canoe. Claude's were over in eve. Rained in the nite.

Mon. June 26
Looked rainy off & on all day & did rain some in P.M. Warm day. Mon & I went too Decorah with Roy in P.M. too Harley Aaby's funeral & then it was at B.O. so we didn't get too go too it. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Tues. June 27
Not so nice in A.M. but wasn't so bad in P.M. Plenty windy. The men plowed corn all day. Mon had Roy's tractor & Dean the horses. We went up town in eve. Rained in the nite.

Wed. June 28
Sprinkled some in A.M. but was nice in P.M. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & he helped them with some work & was here for dinner. The men plowed corn in P.M. Finished going thro' both pieces again. The took the tractor home after chores & as Roy was gone they did his chores. Nellie, Henry & Dolly Aaby & Annie Halse were here in eve. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. June 29
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean worked the ground up that the beans were on. Mon worked at Roy's all day. We went up town in eve. We took mama up too the cemetry & got the bushes that were on papa's grave. Mama took the hydrangea & I the rose bush. Clyde rode up town & back with us. Mary Whalen & Tommie Mocha were married today.

Fri. June 30
Nice day. Mon & Dean went over too Joe Moran's early in A.M. & got some more soy beans for seed. Dean plowed beans & dragged. Mon worked at Roy's. I went too Club at Lenora Leistikows with Gladys in P.M. Alice Wilbur Evelyn Van Vleit & Lillian Smith joined. Had a nice lunch.

Sat. July 1
Nice day until about 3 P.M. it clouded up & sprinkled some & then between 5 & 6 it rained very hard. Lots of lightning & thunder too. Looked mighty rainy in eve & nite but didn't rain. Dean went over & got Roys tractor & plowed corn all day. Mon went over & got Marion before dinner & then afterward we went too Decorah. Mama, Walter N. & Mart L. went along. Mama & Marion were here for supper. Had a school meeting here in eve & then Mon & I took Mama & Marion to B.O. Power off again this P.M. till late. Ruth left for Vermont today to teach at a girls camp for 6 weeks.

Sun. July 2
Nice day. Dean was gone all day. Mon & I went up too the M.E. Church to the 25th Wedding Anniversary doings for Albert & Florence. Large crowd out & we had a dandy good dinner. Had a short but good program in P.M. We came home about 4. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Mon. July 3
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon did odd jobs in A.M. & plowed corn in P.M. Got a letter from Isa today. We went up town in eve. Quite a crowd in town.

Tues. July 4
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon & Dean went up town early in A.M. & got Mama & then we went over too Neva's too a picnic. Claude's, Dell's, Roy's, Daves, Geo Emery's, Ed Arnold & Aunt Maude & 2 of Floyd's boys & Delores L. were there. Aunt Eunice was there when we got there but Raymond took her too Decorah after dinner too take the bus home. Lily Bently was there helping Neva. We had a dandy good dinner. They have a nice place over there. We took Mama home in eve & stopped a little while in town. Dean didn't come home with us.

Dandy day. The men plowed corn all day.

Thurs. July 6
Dandy day. The men finished going thro' the corn at noon. Dean mowed thistles & weeds in P.M. & Mon & I went too Decorah a while about 3 P.M. Got a card from Ruth today. We went up too Gust's a little while in eve.

Fri. July 7
Dandy day. Plenty warm. Mon & Dean went up too Gust's early in A.M. & got the manure spreader & hauled out manure. Dean put up the chicken fence after dinner so I could put the little chickens out. Walter came down in P.M. & mowed the lawn. Mon & I planted some garden early in A.M. Dean went over too Howards in eve. Got a letter from Arthur.

Sat. July 8
Dandy nice day. We went & got Mama about 11:30 & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Dean got a new pair of shoes. Mama came home with us too supper & we took her home in eve. Quite a crowd in B.O. I sat in the car with Olive most of the eve. We came home about 1. Mabel Lovlien was married this P.M. We had a little calf today.

Sun. July 9
Cloudy most of the day. Sprinkled just a little at noon. Dean was gone all day. Mon took Bernice & I too church in A.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Mon. July 10
Rather cloudy & rained for a while in A.M. & P.M., but cleared off about 3 & was nice after that. I washed but didn't get the clothes out until after the rain so didn't get the ironing done. The men plowed corn. Harry & Vera & the boys were here for a while after dinner. We had a letter from Arthur today. Dean got another questionaire today.

Tues. July 11
Quite nice in A.M. & mighty warm but it clouded up about noon & it sure did rain in P.M. About 4 inches of rain fell in P.M. It cleared off late in P.M. & got quite a lot cooler. The men plowed corn in A.M. We went up town in eve. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Wed. July 12
Nice day but cool. We went too Cresco in P.M. & then home by Decorah.

Thurs. July 13
Nice day. Mon took me up town about 11 too L.A.S. He came home & Florence & Shirley bro't me home after Aide. Aunt Alice & Aunt Mary entertained. Had a dandy good dinner. Not such a big crowd out though. Mon went up too Lodge in eve & Dean went along up town. I got a letter from Ruth today.

Fri. July 14
Nice in A.M. but it sure did rain in P.M. & again after supper. Very hard rain most of P.M. & quite severe lightning & thunder with the rain in eve. The men plowed corn in A.M.

Sat. July 15
Nice day. Mon went over too Roy's & too Harry's early in A.M. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Large crowd in town. Dean got a hair cut. We came home about 5 & I did up my chores & then Mon took me up town. The Club had their annual ice cream Social on Gordon Reid's lawn. Had ice cream, cakes & cookies, sandwiches & coffee. Had a good crowd out. Cool nite too. Addie & Ludvig rode home with Mon & I. Dean went to Calmar with Clyde so it was late when they got home.

Sun. July 16
Nice day. Dean was gone all day. Mon & I went over too Marion's in A.M. & picked the red raspberries. Got quite a few. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Mon. July 17
Rained off & on during the day but not too hard. The men plowed corn between the showers. We got a letter from Arthur.

Tues. July 18
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & looked like we were going too get a hard storm but we just got a shower. It looked mighty rainy in eve but didn't rain. The men plowed corn. Dean mowed some hay in P.M. Got a letter from Isa.

Wed. July 19
Nice day but cool. I washed & ironed. Mon went up town awhile in A.M. Dean mowed some. We put in 3 loads of hay in P.M. Dean went with Clyde this eve.

Thurs. July 20
40º this morn. Dandy nice day but cool & windy. The men plowed corn & mowed in A.M. We put in 4 loads of hay today. Went up town in eve. I went over too Lottie Murdock's. Marion rode home with us. Cool nite.

Fri. July 21
40º this morn. Dandy nice day. Warmed up a little. The men plowed corn & mowed in A.M. & then we put up hay in P.M.

Sat. July 22
Nice warm day. We put in 1 load of hay & then went too Decorah. Marion went along. Mon got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Marion came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Had quite a storm in eve while we were up town. We came home while it was still raining. Addie Q. rode home with us. Dean went with Clyde & they didn't get home until about morning. The wind blew quite hard here during the storm. Blew out a window pane in the bedroom. Put our papers in Claude's box in the bank at Decorah today.

Sun. July 23
Nice day. Dean was gone all day & eve. Mon took me too church & then he went down too Will Cameron's awhile. We were at Mama's for dinner & until about 4.

Mon. July 24
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean mowed hay in A.M. & we put it in the barn in P.M. Mon went up town in A.M. awhile. Harry Q. & the boys were here awhile about noon. I had a letter from Ruth today.

Tues. July 25
Nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Started too rain about supper time & kept it up all nite I guess. We finished filling the barn with hay. Harry Q. came with the poles in P.M. & they put them up.

Wed. July 26
Quite nice in A.M. but rained hard in P.M. We went too Decorah about noon. Marie & Marjorie came up from West Bend today. Run around town with Olive & them in P.M. Dean went over too Howards in eve.

Thurs. July 27
Nice day although it looked quite stormy at times. Mon took me up town about 11 & I went too L.A.S. at the church. Valeda W. & Babe F. served. Quite a crowd out for dinner & a dandy good dinner. Dean went up town in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today. Cool nite.

Fri. July 28
Cold wind all day but a nice day. Mon & Dean went over too Marion's in A.M. & got a jag of corn. Mon took me to Club at Elsie's in P.M. & then he & Marion went too Cresco. Quite a few out too Club & we had a dandy good lunch. We went up town in eve. Gust & Kate went with us. We had a letter from Arthur today. I bought a crate of peaches tonite $2.50.

Sat. July 29
Nice day & warmer. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & we went to Decorah. Large crowd in town. I run around with Olive & Marie & Marjorie. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. Mon & I came home about 11. Some of the horses were in the corn when we got home so we had a job on our hands getting them out & getting the others up & getting them all up in the woods.

Sun. July 30
Nice warm day. We went down too Claude's & spent the day. Mama was there too. Had a good dinner & a big time with Marjorie. Roscoe's, Eva, Frances & her boys & girl friend were there awhile in P.M. We bro't mama home.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went up too Fritz & over to Louie's in A.M. Dean fixed fence. They did odd jobs in P.M. Dean went over too Howards in eve. We had a letter from Arthur & one from Isa today.

Plenty warm day. The men did odd jobs. Dean cleared off brush some too fix fence west of the house. We went up town in eve.

Warm day, hot. Dean mowed. Harry was here in A.M. awhile. Dean went over too Howards in eve.

Mighty warm day. They put up hay today. Stacked it down in the field. Had quite a storm in the nite. Wind blew hard & it rained hard.

Rather dark & rainy looking most of the day. Cleared off late in P.M. & was nice. Cooler today. We went too Decorah about noon. Mama went with us. Dean got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Nice day. They put up hay in P.M. & Mon mowed some. We went up town in eve. Lutheran Young People's Society had an ice cream Social & program on their lawn. Quite a few out. We came home about 12:30.

Nice day. They finished up the haying this A.M. Harry's were all here for dinner. Dean went fishing in P.M. but he didn't get any. Cool nite.

Mon. Aug. 7
Nice day. Cool breeze. I washed & ironed. Dean went too Raymond Lehman's in P.M. with Dell's too thresh in Ray's place. Mon went up town in P.M. Howard was here awhile in P.M. I got a letter from Ruth.

Tues. Aug. 8
Nice day. The men did odd jobs in A.M. Mon & I went up town about 11 & sent a box too Arthur. Went up too Mama's a minute. When we got home Dean went over & got Marion & we had dinner & then went too Decorah. Mon took me down too the Hospital too see Marion Wicks who is there with infection in his hand. I stopped in too see Artie McIntire who is there too. Dean went up town in eve. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Wed. Aug. 9
Mighty warm day. Mon went up & got Mama early in A.M. & we dressed chickens & got things around for L.A.S. The men started cutting grain just before dinner. We took Mama home in eve.

Thurs. Aug. 10
Mighty warm day. The men cut & shocked grain today. Dean took Lizzie & I up town about 10 A.M. Mama & I entertained L.A.S. at the church. Not too large a crowd out as it was such a busy time. We took in $13.65. Had a swell dinner. Dean came up after me about 4:30.

Fri. Aug. 11
Warm in A.M. but the wind changed about noon & it was more comfortable in P.M. Mon went up town early in A.M. & got a can of cherries & I canned them in A.M. Got 12 qts. The men finished cutting & shocking grain this A.M. Fritz was here in P.M. awhile & Mon went over too Fred's a few minutes with him. Little daughter born too Ralph & Audry Greenslade.

Sat. Aug. 12
Nice day & warm. We went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Went up town in eve, did the chores up early so we got up there about 7:30. The M.E.L.A.S. had an ice cream Social on the church lawn. Quite a good crowd out. Large crowd in town. We got home about 12:30. Ludvig, Addie & Allen rode home with us.

Sun. Aug. 13
Nice warm day. Had a little sprinkle at noon but it was nice all the rest of the day. Looked like a bad storm in eve but it didn't even rain. Dean went fishing. Mon & I went up & got Uncle Geo. & went down too Aunt Lissa's for a birthday surprise party on Aunt Eunice. Quite a crowd & a good dinner. Neva showed some of their moving pictures. We took Mama & Uncle Geo. home.

Mon. Aug. 14
Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Plenty warm. We didn't do too much of anything. Fritz was down awhile in P.M. He & Mon went over too Fred's a few minutes. Dean went over too Howard's a little while in eve. We each got a card from Isa today.

Invasion into Southern France started this morn and went well. Nice in A.M. Clouded up about noon & we had quite a storm. Wind blew hard & it rained hard too. Cleared off later in P.M. & got cooler. I washed & ironed. The men did odd jobs. Got a letter from Isa today.

Wed. Aug. 16
Dandy nice day but rather cool. Mon & I went up & got Mama about 10 & went too Cresco too see Dr. Ginderler about glasses but he wasn't there so we went on too Decorah. Mon went too the Sale at the Equity awhile. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her home after chores. It rained while we were up town & again later in the nite.

Thurs. Aug. 17
Nice day. Did a little of everything. Mon & Dean went over to Bidne's in P.M. & then on up town. The Fair started tonite.

Fri. Aug. 18
Nice day but cool. Did odd jobs. Lloyd K. came down this A.M. early & bought 4 heifers & Glen R. hauled them. Mon & Dean went up when the cattle went & stayed in B.O. awhile afterward. Got a letter from Arthur today. 4 heifers weighed 3620 lbs. Mon lumped them for $350.00

Sat. Aug. 19
Nice day. Mon went over & got Marion & we went too Decorah about 11:30. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We came home about 3 & did up the chores & went back too Decorah. Got there about 6. Went down too the Fair. Had supper down there. Went up in the Grand Stand too watch the Free Acts. They were good. Very large crowd at the Fair. We came home about 2. Marion stayed down in P.M. but came home with us in nite.

Sun. Aug. 20
Looked rainy at times but was nice all day until about 5:30 it clouded up & about 6:30 it rained hard, but cleared off afterward. Dean was gone all day. Mon took me too church in A.M. He & Fritz went too the Fair in P.M.

Mon. Aug. 21
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Fritz was down early in A.M. & Mon went too Decorah with him. They got home about noon. Mon went up town with Fred in P.M.

Tues. Aug. 22
Nice early in A.M. started to cloud & we had quite a shower about noon. Rather dark in P.M. Rained hard & we had quite a storm in the nite. Mon went up & got Mama & Aunt Eunice early in A.M. & they were here all day. We took them back in eve after chores.

Wed. Aug. 23
Nice day but cool. The men did odd jobs. Dean mowed the pasture in P.M. with the team & mower.

Thurs. Aug. 24
Nice day. Dean mowed weeds all day. Mon took me too L.A.S. at the church. Dorothea R. & Genevra S. entertained. Very large crowd & a dandy good dinner. We went too Decorah about 2. Walt McCauley rode down & back with us. We were not down there long. We went over to Marion's in eve & he wasn't home so we went up town awhile. Ruth got home early this A.M.

Fri. Aug. 25
Nice day but quite cool & windy. The men went threshing at Fred's. Ruth came over after dinner & took me too Club at Muriel T's. with our car. Quite a few out. We had a good time & a good lunch. Ruth bro't me a box of maple candy & a handkerchief from New York. The men were home when we got home & Marion was with them. He stayed for supper & Mon took him home after chores.

Sat. Aug. 26
Cloudy dark day. The men threshed at Roy's in A.M. I went over & helped Bernice & Lizzie just a little while at noon & then [??] came home & went up town & got some food for our threshers. They came here after dinner & finished between 5 & 6. Howard threshed out a couple of loads here. Addie & Bernice helped me. We had 168 bu. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde so he didn't come home with us. It rained most of the nite. We got a V mail from Arthur.

Sun. Aug. 27
Rained most of the day & sometimes quite hard. Cool too. Fred Kneeskern & Rosalie & Fritz K. came about 5:30 & Rosalie signed her contract too teach our school for the coming year.

Mon. Aug. 28
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon & Dean put rings in the hogs noses etc. in A.M. & we went too Decorah in P.M. Dean got a hair cut. I got a letter from Isa. Our school started today with Rosalie Kneeskern teaching.

Tues. Aug. 29
Not too nice a day but not too bad. I washed & ironed. Mon started shingling the barn in A.M. Dean mowed the lawn & did some other jobs & then he started shingling too. They got quite a little done. Art W. was here a minute in eve. Dean went over too Howard's awhile in eve.

Wed. Aug. 30
Nice early in A.M. but clouded up & we got quite a storm & then it kept on raining off & on all day. Cool too. The men shingled in A.M. until it rained. They went up town in P.M.

Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained off & on. Cool. Ruth came over in A.M. & spent the day. Mon & I took her home after supper.

Curtis & Anastatia Carolan were married this A.M. La Vern Q. & Addie rode home from B.O. with us. Little daughter born too Art & Mae Walter this A.M. early.

Sun. Sept. 3
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon & Dean took me too church in A.M. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. too a Show. "And The Angels Sing". It was good & funny. Mon took me down too the Hospital after the Show too see Mae Walters. Lottie Murdock died early this A.M.

Mon. Sept. 4
Dandy nice day but cool. The men threshed at Fritz's in A.M. & at Ludvigs in P.M. I helped Addie. Mrs. Vine was there too. Dean went down too the Community Hall about 9 too the doings with Art & Howard & Leonard B.

Tues. Sept. 5
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Quite windy. Dean worked at Louie's all day hauling manure. I washed in A.M. We went up & got Mama in P.M. & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Eileen O'Brien rode back up too Mama's with us.

Wed. Sept. 6
Nice day but quite cool & windy. Dorothea Reid was down in A.M. & we went over to Krumm's too practice. Mon & I went too Lottie Murdock's funeral in P.M. Dorothea & I sang 1 song "He Leadeth Me" & Hannah Melvin sang "Rock of Ages". Dean worked at Louie's today. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. Sept. 7
Dandy nice day. Dean worked at Louie's today & finished. Fritz & Marion helped Mon shingle on the barn today. I went too L.A.S. with Bernice & Roy. Bernice & Lizzie entertained. Had a large crowd & a good dinner. We went up town in eve. I went up too Mama's. She got a couple of fingers smashed in a car door yesterday & I went up & helped her dress them. Gert & Lawrence were there too.

Fri. Sept. 8
Nice day. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & he was here for breakfast & helped shingle all day. Dean helped thresh at Ed Arnold's all day.

Sat. Sept. 9
Nice early in A.M. but it started too rain about 10 & rained quite hard for a little while. It rained off & on all day & nite then. Mon went over early & got Marion & he was here for breakfast & they shingled until it rained. We went too Decorah then. Large crowd in town. Mon got a hair cut. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. Jimmie Whalen & Addie Q. rode home with us. Fritz was here awhile in P.M.

Sun. Sept. 10
Not very nice day. Didn't do much of anything. Laid around all day. The power was off & didn't come on until after 10 so we didn't separate very early. Dean was over too Howard's awhile in A.M. Dave was here awhile.

Mon. Sept. 11
Not so nice in A.M. but brightened up some in P.M. Cool. Mon & I went up & got Mama we went too Cresco too see Dr. Jindulee about hers & my eyes. Her glasses were O.K. but mine had too be changed. Got a crate of peaches out there $2.

Tues. Sept. 12
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. I canned peaches in A.M. The men went up town in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Wed. Sept. 13
Not very nice day. Damp. The men did odd jobs all day. They went up too Gust's & got the manure spreader in P.M. Mon mowed after they got home & Dean cut some corn for the hogs.

Thurs. Sept. 14
Not very nice day. Damp & cool. Dean went over too Louie's early in A.M. & helped him vaccinate hogs. He got home about 11. Mon mowed weeds in the pasture part of A.M. & Dean mowed all P.M. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. with a grist. We went up town in eve. Mon & I came home about 11 & Dean came later with Clyde. I got a letter from Isa. Jerry Knowlton was married tonite.

Fri. Sept. 15
Grand day. Warm. I washed & ironed. Dean helped Roy in A.M. The men cleaned out the calf pen & hog house & hauled out some manure.

Sat. Sept. 16
Grand day. Quite warm. The men hauled manure in A.M. & then Dean went over & got Marion & he & Mon & I went too Decorah about 11:30. Dean hauled manure all day. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. Marion came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. Addie Q., Jimmie Whalen & Marion came home with us. We just got too bed when Dean came. Shower for Jerry Knowlton at Breezy but we didn't go.

Sun. Sept. 17
Beautiful nice warm day. Rather windy. Dean went up & greased Vine's windmill early in A.M. Claude's were over & spent the day. The kids went hunting in P.M. but didn't get any squirrels.

Mon. Sept. 18
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean helped Roy awhile in A.M. & then did odd jobs here at home in P.M. Mon went over & got Marion & they shingled the south side of the kitchen. It clouded up about supper time & looked like a bad storm but didn't rain much then but it did rain hard in eve & nite. We took Marion home after chores & then went up town awhile. Lloyd K. was here in P.M. & bought some young cattle.

Tues. Sept. 19
Not very nice day. Damp & dark all day. Mon went over & got Marion before breakfast. The truck came after the cattle about 10 & the men all went when the cattle did. Mon & Dean came back about 6. 10 head weighed 7110 lbs. @ 9 & 11¢ per lb. & bro't $691.70. Very stormy nasty nite. Thunder, lightning, wind, hail & rain.

Wed. Sept. 20
Our 28th Wedding Anniversary. Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice. Quite warm. We went down town about 11:30 & spent the day. Jack Whalen rode down with us. Dean got a hair cut. I got a new hat & every day shoes. Dean helped Roy get some cattle rounded up & loaded early in A.M. Jim Murdock was here early in A.M. & culled out the hens again. 37 hens weighed 121 lbs. @ .17¢ & bro't $20.47. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Thurs. Sept. 21
Quite a nice day but cool & windy. Marion was here & helped Mon shingle the house. They got the north side finished so the house is done. Dean hauled manure. I went too L.A.S. with Roy, Bernice & Lizzie. Roy took us & then came back & got us. Muriel T. & Stella H. entertained. Had a good crowd & a good dinner. We took Marion home in eve & then went on up town a little while. It sprinkled some in eve.

Fri. Sept. 22
Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & looked rainy. Marion came back & they finished shingling the barn. Dean hauled manure. Rosalie Kneeskern was here after school for her order.

Sat. Sept. 23
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & eve. We went to Decorah about 10:30. Mama & Marion went along. Mama got a permanent. Large crowd in town. Mama & Marion came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Dean went too Matter's with Clyde. We came home about 1. Cool nite.

Sun. Sept. 24
Dandy nice day only rather a cool breeze. Mon & Dean took me too church in A.M. We stopped at Dorothy Emmon's & got a bu. of tomatoes on our way home $1.50. Dean went hunting in P.M. & got 3 squirrels & Mon & I went down on Silver Creek fishing & got 30 fish. Cool nite.

Mon. Sept. 25
Only about 34 this morn. Cool early in A.M. but warmed up & was a grand day. The men hauled manure & got a jag of corn late in P.M. I canned tomatoes in P.M. Pearl was here awhile in A.M. We got a letter from Arthur today. He is in Southern France now.

Tues. Sept. 26
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed & finished canning the tomatoes. The men hauled manure in P.M. Dean helped Roy put up hay in P.M. We went up town in eve. Mon bought a box of pears $2.

Wed. Sept. 27
Not very nice in A.M. Damp & misty but cleared off about noon & was nice in P.M. The men hauled manure in A.M. & Dean helped Roy in P.M. & Mon mowed weeds in the north pasture. Rained some in the nite.

Thurs. Sept. 28
Dandy nice day. Dean mowed the lawn in A.M. They hauled manure in P.M. Dean went out in eve. Harry Q. was here awhile in eve.

Fri. Sept. 29
30º this morn. Nice day but cool. The men filled silo at Ludvig's today. Mon came down after dinner & took me too B.O. I went too Club at Violet's from there with Florence & Maxine. Quite a few out & a grand lunch. Florence bro't me too the 4 corners & I started too walk home & then Darwin Christopher came along with the maintainer & I rode home with him. I canned the pears this A.M. Got 12 qts. Got a letter from Ruth.

Sat. Sept. 30
Quite a nice day. Cool. We went too Decorah about 11. Mon got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Jimmie Whalen rode home from Decorah with us. Mon & I went up town in eve. Dean went to bed. We came home about 10:30. I didn't feel very good.

Rather a damp dark cool day. Mon took me too church in A.M. Clyde was down in A.M. & Dean went hunting with him.

Not very nice day. Rained quite hard for a while in A.M. Cold. The men got a jag of corn in P.M. We got a load of coal in A.M.

Not very nice day but a little warmer. The men finished filling silo at Ludvig's in P.M. I went too Andrew Gossman's Sale in P.M. with Roy, Bernice, Dave & Lizzie. Not such a large crowd. Things went pretty good. Dean went up town in eve with Clyde.

Not a very nice day but the sun did shine once in a while during the day. Mon went over too Bennie McCabe's in A.M. & got some potatoes 8 2/3 bu. The men got a jag of corn in P.M. & then Mon & I went too Canton. Dean didn't feel very good today.

Not a very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Sometimes quite hard. Mon took Bernice & I up too L.A.S. Zoa & Edie Reed entertained. Large crowd out. Had a swell dinner.

Fri. Oct. 6
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon took a grist too Decorah about 11. He got back about 6. Dean did odd jobs. He went over to Howard's in eve.

Sat. Oct. 7
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 10:30. Marion, Alan Q. & Mama went along. Large crowd in town. Mon got the car fixed in P.M. Mama & Marion came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clydes they got home just after we did. Adie Q. rode home from town with us.

Cold, dark, windy day. Mon took me too church in A.M. Dean went over too Howard's. We went too Decorah after dinner. Went out east of town too the proposed air site too an airplane show for a while & then back too Decorah & went too the Show Fibber & Mollie in "Heavenly Day". Good. Howard was over a while in eve. Cold nite.

30º this morn. Dandy nice day but cool. I washed & ironed. The men got corn in A.M. & Mon started mowing beans in P.M. Cool nite. Got a letter from Isa today.

Tues. Oct. 10
20º this morn. Nice day but cool. Mon finished mowing beans in A.M. He took me up too Gust's at noon & got Gust's hay rake & then he mowed beans in A.M. & Dean bunched. Mon bunched after he got thro' raking. I went too Prosper with Gladys in P.M. too the Prosper L.A.S. Sale & lunch. Quite a few went from B.O. They had nice things too sell & a nice lunch. Cool nite. Got a letter from Ruth today.

Wed. Oct. 11
20º below this morn. Nice day. The men worked at the beans all day. I went too B.O. about noon with Bernice too the Lutheran L.A.S. Sale & dinner. Harry Falk took us. They had a good dinner & lots of nice things too sell & a large crowd. I bought a pr. of pillow cases $2.90. Mon came & got us about 4. Dean went up town in eve. Got a letter from Arthur today. Cool nite.

Nice day but cool. The men finished bunching the beans this A.M. We went too Cresco in P.M. & then on too Decorah. The men went up town in eve. I stayed home.

Fri. Oct. 13
Dandy nice day. The men got a load of corn in A.M. Mon took Bernice & I too Decorah in P.M. where we started taking a "Home Nursing Course". 10 of us in the class with Mrs. McAllister as teacher. We have our lessons from 2 to 4 P.M. Had a letter from Arthur today.

Sat. Oct. 14
Dandy nice summer day. We went & got Marion & then up & got Mama & then on too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Dean got a hair cut. Mama & Marion came home too supper with us. We went up town in eve. Dean didn't come home with us but came later with Clyde.

Sun. Oct. 15
Dandy nice day but cool. Mon & I left home about 10:30 A.M. & went too Mason City too see Chas. & Helen. Had a good dinner & visit. Chas. took us around seeing sights in P.M. We left there about 6:45 & got home about 8:45. Clyde helped Dean do the nite chores & they were just eating supper when we got home.

Dandy nice summer day. I washed & ironed. Dean helped Roy shock corn in A.M. & then he & Mon got a load of corn in P.M. Louie K. was here early in A.M. on the War Chest Drive.

Tues. Oct. 17
Nice day. Dean helped Roy until about 3 P.M. Mon helped Marion in P.M. Got a letter from Ruth today.

Wed. Oct. 18
Nice day. Dean helped Roy in A.M. & then he got a load of corn in P.M. Bernice & I went too Decorah about 11:30 with Harry Falck too our Home Nursing lesson. Mon & Roy went out by Ridgeway too a Sale about noon & then they came home by Decorah & Bernice & I rode home with them. Mon went up town in eve. Florence, Albert & Norris were here a little while in eve.

Thurs. Oct. 19
Nice day. Dean helped Roy in A.M. Mon went up too the church early in A.M. too work at the basement. Florence & Albert came & got me about 11 & we went too L.A.S. Inez W. & Myrtle Snell entertained. Good dinner & a good crowd. Mon took Bernice, Hilda E., Myrtle N., Verna S. & myself too Decorah in eve for our H.N. lesson. We came back too B.O. & stopped at the Hall too a party for 4 of our Service Men. Donald Emery, Adolph Anderson, Roy Fitch & Chas. Safford. Large crowd out & they had a good time. We got home about 1. Dean went up with Roy & he came later.

Nice day. Mon worked at the church basement again today until about 3 P.M. Dean got a load of corn. Jim Murdock was here early in A.M. & got some young roosters 40 weighed 119 lbs. @ .21 bro't 25.00 We had a letter from Arthur.

Nice day. We went too Decorah about 11. Mon got a hair cut. I got a new dress $11.20 (Too much) Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. We came home a little after 11. Cold nite.

14º this morn. Cold early in A.M. but warmed up & was a nice day. Mon took me too church in A.M. We had a Soldier boy visitor at church who sang 2 beautiful songs for us. Clyde was here for dinner. He & Dean went hunting & over too Ed K's. in P.M.

Nice day although rather cloudy at times. I washed & ironed. The men got a load of corn in P.M. & hauled manure in P.M. Mon went too Prosper about 4 P.M. Got a letter from Arthur today & one from Isa.

Tues. Oct. 24
Nice day. The men cleaned out the calf pen & Dean hauled manure. I went too B.O. in P.M. with Gladys A. & Mrs. K. too their missionary meeting at Ada Reed's. Mon took a grist too Decorah in P.M.

Wed. Oct. 25
Nice day. Dean went up too Harold Seelye's in A.M. & got his scraper & they hauled dirt into the low places around the yard. They got a load of corn. Mon took Bernice & I over too Bill Erickson's about 1 & we went too Decorah from there with Albert Newhouse's too our Home Nursing Class. We rode home with Fred Kneeskern & Rosalie. Got home about 6:15.

Nice day. The men hauled dirt all day. Mon took we women too Decorah again tonite too our Home Nursing Class. Dean went too B.O.

Fri. Oct. 27
Nice day. The men got corn in A.M. & hauled manure in P.M. Mon took me over too the 4 corners at noon & I went too Club at Miriam's with Florence. Quite a few out & we had a dandy good lunch. I rode home with Gladys from B.O. Lucy Lange was buried at B.O. today.

Nice day. We went too Decorah about 11. Mon went over & got Marion & he & Lizzie went with us. I got my hair fixed. Dean went too Cresco, from Decorah, in P.M. with Chas. W. & drove a tractor home from there for him. Verna [Simensin?] rode home from Decorah with us. Marion came home too supper with us. We went up town in eve. Ludvig rode home from town with us. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde in eve.

Beautiful day. Mon took me too church in A.M. & he went fishing in P.M. Got a few. Dean went pheasant hunting but he didn't get any.

Beautiful day. I washed & ironed. Mon helped Richard B. shred. He got home about 4. Dean got a load of corn in A.M. & hauled manure in P.M. Roy took us too Decorah in eve too our last Home Nursing lesson. Came back too B.O. & Mon & Dean were there so I came home with them.

Dandy nice day. Dean & I helped shred at Roy's. Got home about 4. Mon went too B.O. in P.M. & stayed until about 2 A.M. He was over too Louie's early in A.M. Stanley was here in A.M. but Dean & I didn't get too see him. I got a letter from Ruth.

Dandy nice day. Clouded up a little in P.M. Had quite an electrical storm in the nite but it didn't rain too much. Roy cut corn here in A.M. The men got a load of corn in A.M. Aunt Eunice, Earl, Wilma, Ruth & Mama were here for dinner. All but Ruth & Mama went over too Dave's a little while in P.M. They left here about 5. Dean went up town in eve. We got a letter from Arthur.

Not such a nice day. Rather cloudy in A.M. & rained off & on all P.M. Sometimes quite hard. Dean shredded at Howard's all day. Got soaked too. Mon took me too L.A.S. at the church. Picnic dinner. Fair sized crowd & a good dinner.

Nice day but cool. Mon went too Decorah early in A.M. too get the car overhauled but didn't get it done so he got home about 11 & went out & helped Dean finish getting a load of corn. They did odd jobs in P.M. Dean & I went up too the school house in eve too their program. Had a good crowd & a good program. We got home about 11. Cold nite. Froze quite hard.

12º this morn. Nice day but cool. Dean helped Louie K. stack corn fodder all day. We went too Decorah about 11. Bernice & mama went along. Bernice & I went down too the Hammond Sale but I didn't stay long. Bernice stayed all P.M. Mama came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. Mon & I came home about 11. Cold nite. Coldest we have had. Froze quite hard.

19º this morn. Quite a nice day but cool. Dean went pheasant hunting. (Got one) & then on over too Ed K's & too a show in eve. Mon took me too church in A.M. & then he came back home & came after me about 4. They had a dinner at the church at noon honoring our minister family & [Dora Carter?] of Fayette. Had a good crowd & grand dinner. Had a program in P.M. I went home with Mama too wait until Mon came after me.

Mon. Nov. 6
Not such a nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day. I washed & ironed. The men got a load of corn in A.M. & shocked corn in P.M.

Tues. Nov. 7
Not very nice day. Rather damp at times & cloudy all day. Election Day. Roy & Howard helped stack beans today & they got them all stacked. Finished about 3:30. Mon & I went up too vote about 4. Dean went up town in eve. Roosevelt won over Dewey.

Wed. Nov. 8
Not such a nice day & still not too bad a day. Mon took Bernice & I too B.O. about 10:30. The M.E.L.A.S. had their annual dinner & sale today. Large crowd out & a good dinner. Cleared a good bit of money. Mon sold the old sows today & he & Dean went too Decorah when they went. 11 of them weighed 3656 & 3 weighed 945 @ $13.60 bro't $613.36. We had 2 letters from Arthur today.

Not very nice day. Rather rainy & damp. We did odd jobs around here getting ready for winter. Dean went up town in eve.

Fri. Nov. 10
Cold damp day. Dean picked corn all day. Mon & I went too Decorah about 10:30. I got my hair fixed. Lester Bronner was here in eve awhile. Mon got a hair cut today too.

Sat. Nov. 11
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day but rather windy. The men worked in the corn field all day. Glen Clark got some roosters here this morn. 60 weighed 206 lbs. @ .21. $43.26. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. Mon & I came home about 11.

Beautiful Summer day. Nice & warm. Mon took me too church in A.M. Dean went up town with us but he didn't come home with us. He came about supper time. There was a Memorial Service for Neil Gilbertson at the Lutheran Church in P.M. but we didn't go.

Mon. Nov. 13
Not too nice a day but not too bad. Warm. I washed & ironed. The men worked in the corn field all day. Had quite an electrical storm in the nite. Quite a little rain fell too.

Tues. Nov. 14
Not so nice in A.M. but was quite nice in P.M. The men were in the corn field all day. I went too Mrs. Winters Sale in P.M. with Roy & Bernice. The Joan of Arc served lunch. Not so many out & we didn't make too much. We were home again at 3:30. We went up town awhile in eve. Got a letter from Arthur & one from Ruth today. Rained in the nite & got some colder.

Wed. Nov. 15
Not very nice day. Rained all A.M. Some times quite hard. Brightened up a little while just after dinner but then it clouded up & got quite a little colder. Rained again in eve. Wind blew quite hard in P.M. & eve. Mon took me too B.O. about 10 & I went from there with Florence & Albert too Harry Harvey's Sale. The Club served lunch again. Bigger crowd there & we sold more. Got home about 6:30. We went up town again in eve. Got home about 11. Dean filled in the cellar way & banked the house today.

Not too bad a day. The sun shone most of the day but it was cool. We went over too Marion's & spent the day. His 75th Birthday. Albert's were there too. The men went hunting in P.M. & got 6 squirrels.

Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off & wasn't such a bad day. The men worked in the corn field all day. Dave came over in A.M. & got Jack. He is going too keep him & use him for a while. We had a letter from Arthur today. The men finished the piece of corn north of the house today.

Tues. Nov. 21
Not very nice day. The men worked in the corn field all day except a little while early in A.M. They fixed fence. Dean went up town with Roy in eve too a duck "raffle". Fritz Koenigs house caught fire in eve. We heard about it after we were in bed & Mon got up & went. They had plenty of help so the fire was out by the time he got there. Ruth, Roger & his wife came tonite for Thanksgiving.

Wed. Nov. 22
Not very nice day. Mon & I went up too Fritz early in A.M. awhile too see if we could do any thing but they could do nothing until the Insurance adjuster came. It is sure an awful mess. The men finished husking corn today. We went up town awhile in eve. It snowed quite hard for a while in eve.

Thurs. Nov. 23
Thanksgiving Day. Not a very nice day. We went up home & spent the day. Olive & Marvin came up (Claude had too go shredding). Just as dinner was about ready Marion came. He had come up on the bus. Dell & Mettie came for dinner too. Didn't have a very large crowd out too our dinner but we had a good one. Roger & his wife went back tonite.

Fri. Nov. 24
Cold day & rather windy. Mon went over & got Ruth early in A.M. & she was here for dinner. We took her home after dinner & Mon took me on up town & I went too Club at Margaret Wards from there with Elsie S. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sat. Nov. 25
Not very nice day. Chilly. We went too Decorah about 11. Dean got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Red Price & Bea were in Decorah. He is home on a furlough. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. Jack Pytallys wife bro't Red & Bea too B.O. They stayed there awhile & then we all went down too Marion's. Didn't get home until about 3. Walt R. & Happy were there awhile. It snowed in the nite.

Not very nice day but not very cold. Got colder at nite. Most of the snow melted. Mon took me too church & Dean & Clyde rode along up town & part way back with us. They went hunting but didn't get anything. Ruth went back today.

Cold dreary day. The men did odd jobs. Got a letter from Arthur.

Tues. Nov. 28
Not so cold today but not a nice day. Started too snow in P.M. & snowed quite hard for awhile. Got colder at nite. Mon & Dean took me up town about 11 & I went too the Breitsprecher Sale from there with Victor Berg's. The Club served lunch. We had a dandy nice warm place too serve lunch. Didn't do so bad. Mon & Dean were at the Sale for a while. I rode back too B.O. with Gladys A. Red & Bea were in B.O. when I got back from the Sale so I got too talk with them a minute. They are leaving tomorrow or next day.

Wed. Nov. 29
5º above this morn. Cold day. Snowed some off & on. Mon put on a couple of storm windows & they did odd jobs around here getting ready for winter. Marion came over a while in P.M. & Mon took him home. Got colder at nite & the wind blew hard all nite. Beautiful moonlit nite though. Ed Dawley & Leona Anderson were married today.

Dandy nice day. We went too Decorah about 11. Gust, Kate & Mama went along. Large crowd in town. Mon got a hair cut. Mama came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Loud time in town Farewell party for Darwin Christopher at the Hall & it sure was loud at Gene's. We didn't go over too the party. Dean went with Clyde & didn't get home until morn.

Started to rain early in A.M. & rained & formed a sleet all over everything. Rained off & on all day & got more slippery all day. Started too snow about 9:30 in eve. Dean went over too Ed Knoke's & spent the day & eve. Louie K. & Howard were here a while in A.M. No church today. Too much ice.

Mon. Dec. 4
Not very nice day. Tried to snow & rain off & on all day. Not cold though. Didn't do much of anything. Had a letter from Isa today. Snowed quite a little in the nite.

Tues. Dec. 5
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & was dark. I washed. The men hauled up a load of corn stalks on the sled in A.M. & also hauled a jag of wood up by the house. Howard was over in A.M. & Dean helped him butcher a hog in P.M.

Wed. Dec. 6
Not a very nice day & still not too bad. Not cold but chilly. Glen Clark was here in P.M. & got the rest of the hens & after that the men & I cleaned up the hen house. We put 152 pullets in the hen house in eve. The 70 hens weighed 289 lbs. @ .18 & brot $52.12.

Thurs. Dec. 7
Dandy nice day. We went up town about 11:15. Bernice & Lizzie went along & we women went to L.A.S. Not such a large crowd out but we had a swell dinner. Elsie S. & Ella R. entertained. Dean went up town in eve. Mama went down too Aunt Lissa's tonite too spend the winter. Got the first pullet egg today.

Not very nice day. Dark & cool. Mon went up to Fritz's & over to Louie's in A.M.

Sat. Dec. 9
Not such a nice day. Cool. We went too Decorah about 11. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. The Bluffton bunch had a dance in the hall again tonite but they were not as noisy as last week. Dean came home with us. Ole rode home with us too. Glen got the rest of the young roosters today. 25 of them weighed 92 lbs. @ .21 & bro't $19.32.

Regular blizzard all day but not too cold. Not too much snow fell either. Dean went over too Howard's awhile in P.M. & Howard was here & spent the eve.

Mon. Dec. 11
Dandy nice bright day but cool. Snow drifted some. Arthur Smith & Brayton Whitney were here in P.M. on the Farm Bureau Member Drive. Harold Bently had trouble with his car up by the east corner & came here just as we were eating supper so he had supper with us.

Tues. Dec. 12
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & wasn't so nice most of the day. I washed & ironed some. Mon & Dean went up town awhile in P.M. They went too Mabel in eve too a Legion doings "Raffle" of turkeys & chickens. Mon went with Fritz & Dean with Ed K. Neither one got a fowl. We got a Xmas card from Cecil Wicks' today.

Not too bad a day & yet not so nice. Rather cool. Didn't do too much. Dean went over too Howard's in eve & then on up town awhile.

Dandy nice day. Mon went too a Sale down by Decorah with Roy about 11 & got back about 5:30. We went up town in eve.

Fri. Dec. 15
Not such a nice day. Blustery & colder. Mon went over too Dave's in A.M. awhile. Dean went over too Howard's awhile in eve.

Sat. Dec. 16
Not very nice day. Cool & cloudy. We went too Decorah about 11 & Mama went along. Very large crowd in town. Did Xmas shopping. We went up town in eve. Didn't get home until about 2. Marion & Ole rode home with us. We had a letter from Arthur today & one from Ruth also some Xmas cards. Cold nite. We had a little calf this morn & another tonite.

Quite bright most of the day but cold with quite a wind. Snow flurries at times. Dean went over too Howard's a few minutes in P.M.

20º below this morn. Quite nice & bright in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Started too snow about 6:30 & snowed quite a little. I washed. Mon went with Roy early in A.M. over too Mabel & too Alfred Youngs. They got home about 3 P.M.

Tues. Dec. 19
Dandy nice day. We got up early & Mon & I left for Decorah about 9 A.M. I got a permanent. Didn't run around town much afterward. We got home about 3. Dean took the team & went sleigh riding in eve. We went up town a little while in eve.

Wed. Dec. 20
Not very nice day. Rather chilly & windy & dark. Mon went up & helped Gene at the tavern most of the day & Ruth went too La Crosse. We went too B.O. in eve. They had a dance for Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Dawley. Quite a crowd out & a good time. Got home about 2. Cold nite. Got a letter from Arthur & one from Isa. Got quite a few Xmas cards.

20º below this morn. Nice bright day but mighty cold. Didn't do much of anything. Dean & Howard went & got Xmas trees in P.M. We got a picture of Lester & Isa today. It was good.

10º below this morn. Not such a nice day. South windy & chilly but warmer than yesterday. Mon went over & got Ruth in A.M. & we made candy & got the Xmas tree up & trimmed. We took her home about 9:15. Snowed a little in the nite.

Nice bright day but cold. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & we went to Decorah about 11. Very large crowd in town. John [Bencher?] rode up from town with us & we took him up to Ole's & took Marion home. Went up town in eve. Came home about 11. Cold nite.

Quite a nice day. Mon took me too church in A.M. Clyde was here awhile & he & Dean went hunting. Xmas program at the church in eve but I didn't get there. Ed Arnold was here a few minutes in A.M.

Nice day but cold. We went down to Aunt Lissa's & spent the day. Neva & Raymond & the children were there. Mon & I went over too Howard's in eve & Dean went up too Ludvig's.

24 below. Nice cold day. Did warm up some during the day. I washed. The men went over too Marions in P.M. & then up town. Howard was here awhile late in P.M.

Snowed quite a lot early in A.M. before we got up. About 3 inches. Nice day. Mon & Dean went up to Gusts in P.M. & then up town awhile. Dean & I went up town with Roy's in eve. Bernice & I went too the Lutheran Xmas program. It was pretty good. Howard was here awhile in A.M.

Thurs. Dec. 28
Nice bright day & somewhat warmer. Mon took me too L.A.S. Picnic dinner. Dandy good dinner & a pretty good crowd. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Fri. Dec. 29
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Mon & Dean went up town in P.M. & they took me too Club at Inez W's. Quite a few out. Had election of officers – Fern Rollins Pres., Dorothy R. V. Pres, Maxine Falck, Sec. Alice Wilbur Treas. We each took a Xmas present & each rec'd one. I got a pyrex cake tin from Muriel T. Tried too snow & blow in P.M. but didn't amount too much. Got a letter from Isa.

Sat. Dec. 30
Not such a nice day but not too cold. Thawed some & tried too snow & sleet. We went down town. I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. We went up town in eve. Sleeted in the nite. Mon gave me $20 for Xmas & I got a 52 piece set of dishes with part of it today.

Sun. Dec. 31
Not very nice day but not too bad. Everything covered with sleet & it tried too snow some too. Clyde came down in A.M. & he & Dean went over too Ed K's. He didn't come home for chores. Got much colder in the nite & the wind blew hard.
