Fri. Jan. 1
Quite a nice day. Sun shone quite a little & it thawed some. Claude's mama & Dells were here for dinner.

Sat. Jan. 2
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & wasn't so nice in P.M. We went to Decorah. Marion, Chas. W. & [Vera?] rode down with us & Marion rode back. We got home about 5:30. We went over & got him in eve & went up town awhile in eve. Got home about 11.

Sun. Jan. 3
Not very nice day. Not cold. Snowed all day & some times quite hard. The wind blew harder later in P.M. Dean was gone most of the day. He went over to Chas. W's. in eve. Chas. was too have had a party but it was too stormy.

Mon. Jan. 4
10º below. Dandy nice bright day but cold. Lloyd K. came down & bought the hogs this morning & Glen R. hauled them in 2 loads. Dean went with the first load & then Mon & Dean took the car & went with the second load 57 of them weighed 11610 @ $14 per cwt. & brought $1625.40. We got a letter from Arthur today. Cold nite.

Tues. Jan. 5
20º below. Warmed up quite a little. I washed. Dean hauled up some corn fodder in A.M. & some wood in P.M. Arlin was here in P.M. Got a letter from Isa today. Arlin bought the young cattle that are outside or rather 11 of them.

Wed. Jan. 6
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Cool & raw. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in P.M. I ironed. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. Jan. 7
Tried to snow & blow in A.M. but wasn't so bad in P.M. Rather cool though. Mon went over to Percy Ward's & Dave Thompson's in A.M. He & Dean went to B.O. in P.M. Mon went up to Ed Dinger's & bought a stock hog in P.M. too.

Fri. Jan. 8
Quite a nice day. Clouded up late in P.M. & the wind came up & blew quite hard from the south. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. awhile. Harold Seelye went with Mon up to Ed Dinger's about 3:30 & hauled the stock hog down here. Dean went over to Howards in eve.

Sat. Jan. 9
Not very nice day. Thawed some. Rather dark & damp & blustery at times. Marion came over about 10 & we went to Decorah. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 5:30 & went up town awhile in eve. Marion & Chas. W. rode up with us, but Marion was the only one that came home with us. Dean rode home with Floyd B. Uncle Jim P. died at 5:30 this A.M. We went down there a few minutes just after we got to Decorah. We got a telegram from Arthur this morn. Got a letter from him. Something went wrong with the car coming home from Decorah & we went on up to B.O. & had it fixed before we came home.

Sun. Jan. 10
Not such a bad day & not too good. Dean & Howard went hunting in A.M. but didn't get any thing.

Mon. Jan. 11
Nice at times & terribly blustery at times too. Snow drifted quite a little in places along our roads & on the pavement. Marion came over about 11:30 & we went to Decorah. Charlie Wilbur & mama went along too. We went to Uncle Jim's funeral at the Olson-Iverson Funeral Home. Quite a crowd & lots of flowers. Chas. P. was there. Mon Chas. & I rode up to the cemetry with Albert E's. I stopped at Aunt Mina's with Albert's & had a lunch after the funeral. We got home about 5:30. Arlin came early this A.M. after the cattle. Dean went with him & helped him haul some other cattle too. Dave was here in A.M. The mail man didn't get thro' today. The roads were drifted too much. 11 head of cattle weighed 5700 lbs. @ $10.50 per cwt. & they brought $598.50.

Tues. Jan. 12
20 below this morn. Nice bright day but cold. Quite a breeze all day but the snow didn't blow. The mail man left our mail at Ludvigs & Mon walked up there & got it. We got 3 letters from Arthur. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Jan. 13
Not such a nice day but not too bad. I washed. The machine broke just as I finished. Dean was over to Howard's in P.M. Floyd B. went to Des Moines tonite for his exams.

Thurs. Jan. 14
Not such a nice day. Not cold though. The wind blew hard all day. The men hauled in corn fodder & hauled some wood up to the house. They fixed the washing machine in P.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Fri. Jan. 15
Not very nice day. Snowed hard in P.M. & drifted some late in P.M. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in P.M. I ironed. Dean went over to Howard's a minute in eve. Floyd B. called from Ames for Howard too meet him at Cresco tonite. He didn't pass his exams. Got a letter from Isa.

Sat. Jan. 16
Not very nice day. Chilly & damp. We went to Decorah about 12. Quite a few in town. Dean got a hair cut. We got home about 6. Got a letter from Arthur. Snowed & the wind blew hard in the nite.

Sun. Jan. 17
22 below. Cold, windy day. Snow piled up quite a lot. Dean went over to Howard's in A.M. & went to B.O. with Floyd B. awhile. Mighty cold windy nite.

Mon. Jan. 18
22 below. Terrible wind all day. Bad blizzard. Sure piled up the snow. Didn't do much of anything but try & keep warm. Bad nite. Very cold & windy. The snow quit blowing in the nite though.

Tues. Jan. 19
35 below. Bright day but cold. Snow didn't blow today. Didn't do much but try & keep warm. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Jan. 20
20 below. Chilly day but the sun shone all day. I washed. Floyd B. came along in A.M. & he & Dean started too walk to B.O. & then they came back & got Floyd's car & shoveled until they got thro' with they. They came back here for dinner & then finished shoveling & went on to B.O. in P.M. They got back about 6. We got 2 letters from Arthur. Dean got the mail in B.O. Dave came over about supper time & got his mail & Roys. He stayed until about 8. Dean went over to Howards a few minutes.

Thurs. Jan. 21
Warmer today. Nice bright day. Mon & Dean hauled in some corn fodder in A.M. Mon started too walk to B.O. in P.M. but he got a ride from Louie's & then he rode back with Floyd & Gladys. I ironed in P.M.

Fri. Jan. 22
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Howard was over in A.M. About noon Roy H. came along with a plow on the side of the sled so the men went with him & they opened the road down the hill east of the house. Got it so people can get through. Mon went to B.O. with Leonard B. & Dean went up with Roy. Mon came back with Roy but Dean went over to Blaess's with Leonard. The mail man left our mail at Dave's & I walked down there in P.M. & got it. Got a letter from Arthur & one from Isa.

Sat. Jan. 23
Nice bright day but cold. We went to Decorah about 11:30. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 6. Met the snow plow when we were coming home. Went up town in eve. I went over to Clara McCabe's awhile too see the new girl. Marion rode home with us. Got home about 1. Ben Wick's birthday & Mon & Marion were over there awhile. Dorothy Emmon's Sale today. The Joan of Arc served lunch.

Sun. Jan. 24
Mon's 48th Birthday. Cold windy day. Sun didn't shine much. Dean went over to Howard's awhile about noon. We went down to Claude's awhile in P.M. (Had too walk down from the road) Marie & her daughter were there. She is sure a dandy baby. Arthur called about 9:45 too wish Mon a "Happy Birthday". Cold windy nite.

Mon. Jan. 25
20 below & it didn't warm up more than 8 below. Nice bright day but cold. The roads were drifted partly full again. Dean went about noon & helped shovel out the hill east of the house. Didn't do too much all day. Got a letter from Arthur today. The mail man came past here today for the first time in over a week.

Tues. Jan. 26
25 below. Dandy nice bright day. Warmed up quite a little but was still plenty cool. Mon & Dean hauled in corn fodder in A.M. & in P.M. hauled up some wood too. Dean drove up to Gust's in P.M. He went over to Howard's in eve. We got a letter from Arthur.

Wed. Jan. 27
Nice bright day but the wind was chilly. Marion came down & we went to Decorah about 11:30. Quite a large crowd in town. The men went to Ft. Atkinson in P.M. too look at a bull. We got home about 6. Fritz was down awhile just before we went too town. Aunt Till passed away tonite.

Thurs. Jan. 28
Nice bright day. Some what warmer. We went to B.O. about 11:30. I went to L.A.S. at the M.E. church. Iona & Margaret entertained. Large crowd out & a dandy dinner. We got home about 5. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We got a letter from Arthur with a picture of him that was so good.

Fri. Jan. 29
Not so cold. Tried too snow but didn't snow much. Billie bro't Pauline up here at noon & then we went to Club at Margaret Ward's. Rode up from B.O. with Victor Berg. Quite a few out. Had a dandy lunch. Pauline rode home from B.O. with Howard McCabe. Rosemary was here after we got home for her check. Got a letter from Arthur. Rosemary quit the school today.

Sat. Jan. 30
Not very nice day. Chilly. We went to Decorah about 11:30. Mon & I went up to the Olson Iverson Funeral Home at 1 P.M. too Aunt Till's Funeral. Quite a few out. Burial at B.O. but we didn't go. Stayed down town. Got home about 6. Went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Jan. 31
Snowed quite hard all A.M. Cleared off in P.M. & was nice & bright & much colder. The wind blew & drifted the snow. Dean was over at Chas. W's. all day.

Mon. Feb. 1
20 below. Dandy nice bright day. Warmed up quite a little. Mon went to Cresco in P.M. with Art, Loretta & Fred. They were over here in eve until about 1 & played cards. Gust & Kate were down awhile in P.M. Got a letter from Isa today. Had another little calf tonite.

Tues. Feb. 2
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Fred W. came over in A.M. & we left here for Cresco by Decorah about 10:30, all of us. Took the radio along & had it fixed at Cresco. We went out west of Cresco, on the paving, about 4 mi & Mon bought a Hereford Bull. Left Cresco about 3. Stopped in Decorah awhile on our way home. Chas. W. rode home from Decorah with us. Got home about 5:30. Got a letter from Arthur with some more pictures today.

Wed. Feb. 3
Snowed hard in A.M. & was quite warm. Cleared off in P.M. & was very nice. A truck driver from Cresco bro't our bull over about 11 A.M. Dean hauled in corn fodder & hauled up some wood in A.M. The men cleaned out the hen house & hauled out some manure in P.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We got a letter, a Camp paper & a booklet of views of S.A. from Arthur today.

Thurs. Feb. 4
Not such a nice day. Sun didn't shine only a little. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in P.M. Walt R. ate dinner here.

Fri. Feb. 5
Not such a nice day. Quite warm. Howard was here awhile in P.M. Got a letter from Arthur.

Sat. Feb. 6
Not too bad a day. Cold wind. We went to Decorah about 11. Marion went along. I got my hair fixed & Mon got his cut. Gladys A. rode home with us. We went up town in eve. Marion & Ludvig rode up with us & Marion & Floyd B. rode back with us. Got home about 12. Got a letter from Arthur. Mon gave me the money too buy a new winter coat for my Birthday present. I got a nice tan one.

Sun. Feb. 7
Dandy nice day. Clyde, Howard & Allen were down & spent the P.M. Maxine & Arlin were here awhile late in P.M.

Mon. Feb. 8
My 51st Birthday. Nice bright day but the East wind blew quite hard all day & it was chilly. It thawed quite a little too. Mon took me to B.O. about 10 & I went with Florence & Albert too the Will Donald Sale. The Club served lunch. Served a good lot too. Sold everything we had. Hot dog sandwiches, pie & coffee. Took in over $80. Rode back to B.O. with Victor Berg. We got home about 6. Got a letter from Arthur today. Our school started again today with Gladys Albertson as teacher.

Tues. Feb. 9
Nice & bright early in A.M. but clouded up & was cloudy the rest of the day. The wind blew quite hard. I washed & ironed. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today & I got a Valentine from him.

Wed. Feb. 10
Regular blizzard today all day. Not cold in the day time but it got much colder late in P.M. Didn't do much of anything. Road, east, filled up again.

Thurs. Feb. 11
20 below. Cold day but bright & the wind blew quite hard until late in P.M. it went down. Mon started too walk up town in P.M. but caught a ride up & back with Clyde Q. We got a letter from Arthur. Dean went out & got a jag of corn late in P.M. & hauled up a jag of wood. Dave came over about supper time & got their mail. Mon bro't it from B.O. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. Got a long letter from Geo & Cecilia.

Fri. Feb. 12
Not such a bad day. Warmer. Marion came over about noon & stayed until about 3 P.M. The snow plow went by here this A.M. early. Got much colder in the nite & the wind blew hard.

Sat. Feb. 13
10 below. Regular blizzard early in A.M. but let up about noon but it didn't warm up much. We went to Decorah about 12:30. Dean got a hair cut. We got home about 6. Got a letter from Arthur & I got a Birthday Card & handkerchief from Isa. Dean went over to Chas. W's. & Fred's in eve. Cold nite.

Sun. Feb. 14
20 below. Nice bright day but cold. Dean went over to Howards awhile.

Mon. Feb. 15
20 below. Nice bright day but cold. The snow drifted quite a lot at times. The men hauled up some corn stalks & some wood. We got a letter from Arthur.

Tues. Feb. 16
18 below. Quite a blizzard early in A.M. but it quit about noon & warmed up some. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Mama went along. I got a permanent. We got home about 6. Got a package from Arthur. Some of his belongings. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Feb. 17
Grand day. Thawed quite a little. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean hauled in some corn fodder in A.M. & then Dean drove the team over to Marion's & Marion came home with him & then they all went to B.O. in P.M. Got a letter from Arthur, card from Ruth & a letter from Isa. We got a load of coal today. Dean went over to Howard's in eve & then went up to B.O. with him & then over to Blaess's.

Thurs. Feb. 18
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Dean hauled out manure. Mon took me to B.O. to L.A.S. at the church. Violet U. & Lottie Manuel entertained. Had a pretty good crowd & a good dinner. We got home about 2:30. Valentine Stoskoff died this A.M. early.

Fri. Feb. 19
Grand day. Thawed a lot. Arthur Smith was here in P.M. on the A.A.A. We got a letter from Arthur. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sat. Feb. 20
Dandy day. Thawed a lot. We went too Decorah about 11. Marion went along. Large crowd in town. We got home about 6. Went up town in eve to the 20th Wedding Ann. Party at the B.O. Hall for Babe & Ern Foltz. Quite a crowd out. Kinyon's Orchestra played for the Dance. Had a good lunch. Had a good time too. Got home about 2:15. Dean went to Calmar with Clyde Q. too meet a train & he didn't get home until 5.

Sun. Feb. 21
Dandy nice day. Bill Beckman was here a few minutes about noon. Brayton W. was over in P.M. & sold Mon some seed corn. Dean went hunting in P.M.

Mon. Feb. 22
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. Mon went over to Marions & spent most of the day. Dean hauled in some corn fodder.

Tues. Feb. 23
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & wasn't so nice. Thawed quite a little though. Got colder at nite. Mon & Dean helped Howard saw wood in P.M. I was over there a few minutes. We got a letter from Arthur & a card from him giving us his new address c/o P.M. N.Y. City. Got a letter from Isa today.

Wed. Feb. 24
Quite a nice day but quite a little colder. Tried too snow at times & the wind blew quite hard. We went to Decorah about 12:30. Took some feed down & had it ground & Mon also took the Income Tax papers down & had them fixed up. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Thurs. Feb. 25
Not such a nice day. Tried too snow & did snow quite hard at times. The wind blew quite hard & was chilly too. Dave was over in A.M. awhile. We went over & got Lizzie after dinner & went too B.O. too get our Ration Book no. 2. Quite a few in B.O. We got a letter from Arthur today. P.M. Trenton N.J. Howard was over in eve.

Fri. Feb. 26
Cold day but bright. Mon took me too Club at Inez W's. in P.M. Dean walked around by Gust's & put up School Notices. Quite a few out to Club. We had a Shower for Velda. She got some nice presents too. Had a dandy good lunch.

Sat. Feb. 27
Not too bad a day. Nice & bright & thawed a lot. Dean helped Ed Knoke move over on the Houck place. We went over & got Marion & went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. Got home about 6. Dean went too Mabel to the Show in eve with Clyde Q. & the Knoke girls. Got much colder in eve & night & the wind blew pretty hard.

Sun. Feb. 28
Quite a nice day but cool. Didn't do much of anything.

Mon. Mar. 1
Cold, windy day. Mighty blustery at nite & cold. Quite bright during the day though. Got a letter from Arthur from Trenton.

Tues. Mar. 2
20 below this morn. Cold windy day but bright. Didn't do much of anything. Dean got a letter from Roy Wernett. Dean helped Richard Blaess with moving in the eve & until quite late. We had a little calf this morn.

Wed. Mar. 3
Quite a nice day. Somewhat warmer. I washed & ironed. The men hauled in some corn fodder in A.M. We had another little calf this morn.

Thurs. Mar. 4
Quite a nice day but cool. We went to Decorah about 11:30. Mama went down with us. Quite a crowd in town. We got home about 6. We went over to Fred's & spent the eve. It got much colder late in P.M. & was cold & mighty windy in eve.

Fri. Mar. 5
Nice bright day but windy & chilly. Ruth & Rupert Greenslade were here awhile in A.M. Mon went too Prosper in P.M. I went over to Pearl's a few minutes in P.M.

Sat. Mar. 6
Not very nice day at times. Regular blizzard at times & then the sun would shine nice & bright. Got pretty cold at nite. We went over & got Marion about 11 & went to Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Got home about 6. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Sun. Mar. 7
21 below nice bright day but cold. Dean went over too Charlie's & spent the day. Roy came over about 2 & then he, Mon & I went down too John Mallick's & Mon bought a seeder.

Mon. Mar. 8
10º below. Not such a nice day at times. Regular blizzard about 4:30 but it let up after while & wasn't so bad in eve. Mon & I went up to the school house in P.M. too School Election. Quite a few out. "Happy" went out & they put Harry Q. in. We went up town in eve & I went up to the Church basement to a farewell party for Mrs. Gjetly & the girls. They are going too California. Had a good time & a good lunch. Got home about 12. Stayed down town awhile after the party.

Tues. Mar. 9
Snowed all day & most of the time quite hard. Not cold though & the snow lay just where it fell. Mon & Dean got in a jag of corn in A.M. & then they went up to Ludvigs a few minutes. Darlene was sick so they brought her home from school. Ludvig came along with them & we all went too Decorah. Quite a crowd in town for all of the snow. Mon got a hair cut. We got home about 5:30. Plenty of snow. About 8 inches on the level. Got a check of $30 from the Gov't for Arthur & I put that money in the bank. Got a letter from Isa too. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Mar. 10
Nice day but the wind blew rather hard & drifted the snow a little but not much. The men cleaned the hen house & calf pen.

Thurs. Mar. 11
Dandy nice day. I washed. The men hauled in corn fodder. Walt R. was here for dinner. John & Gladys Carolan & the kids were down & spent the eve. John & Dean went to Bluffton a little while. They stayed here until after 1.

Fri. Mar. 12
Nice day. Thawed quite a little. Mon & I went too Mabel in A.M. & Mon & Dean went too B.O. in P.M. I ironed in P.M. It rained a little in eve.

Sat. Mar. 13
Not such a bad day. Thawed a lot. We went over & got Marion about 10:30 & went too Decorah. Dean got a hair cut. Large crowd in town. Ludvig rode home with us & Mon took him too B.O. We went up town awhile in eve. Marion rode home with us. Got home a little after 12. Dean got a questionarre today.

Sun. Mar. 14
Nice at times & rained at times. Clyde Q. came down & spent the day & eve. He & Dean went over too Howard's in P.M. & over too Arthur's in eve. Rained some in the nite. Fred Walters & Mrs. Jessie Sanders were married this A.M.

Mon. Mar. 15
Rained quite hard early in A.M. & then it let up awhile but started up again in P.M. & it sure did rain hard at times in P.M. & eve. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Got colder in the nite & froze hard. Harry Q. was here awhile in A.M. Philip S. came about 12:30 & dehorned calves. We went too Decorah about 2:30. Dean took his questionarre down & had it fixed up. Leonard B. rode home from Decorah with us.

Tues. Mar. 16
Cold windy day. Regular blizzard at times. Sun shone at times too. Didn't do much of anything. Cold terribly windy nite.

Wed. Mar. 17
Another windy blizzardy day. Sun shone at times too. Mon went over too Louie K's in P.M. & then on too Prosper. Fred Walters bro't his new bride home today.

Thurs. Mar. 18
Not a very nice day, but not too bad. Quite a little warmer. It thawed some. Albert Emery came up & pulled up our pump & fixed the pipe. It had a hole in it so it was mighty hard too get any water. Took him about 4 hrs. Mon helped him. Dean hauled in some corn fodder in A.M. Martin Jarstaad was here a few minutes in P.M. Dean went over too Chas. in eve. It started too snow in eve some & kept it up all nite I guess. We got a letter from Arthur today written Feb. 28th.

Fri. Mar. 19
Snowed almost all day & some times quite hard. Wind came up in P.M. & blowed the snow some. Got somewhat colder late in P.M. Clifford Darrington was here in P.M. too buy a horse.

Sat. Mar. 20
Quite a nice day but cool. We went over & got Marion & then stopped & got mama & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Very large crowd in town. We got home about 6. Went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Mar. 21
Nice day, but the wind was cool. Clyde came down in A.M. & got Dean & didn't bring him back until eve.

Mon. Mar. 22
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Leonard B. took "Ginger" over too Clifford Darrington's for us. Mon went along. He got back about 2. Dean hauled in corn fodder in A.M. Mon went over too Roy's & up too Gust's after he got home. Howard was over about supper time for a while.

Tues. Mar. 23
Dandy nice day. The snow sure went today. Dean went up too Ottoway's early in A.M. with the team & wagon too husk corn for Fritz. Mon went later with the car & took a load of men. They had a "bee" for Fritz too husk out his corn up there. Quite a few there & then Leonard B., Paul Ward & Harold Seelye hauled it down too Fritz with their trucks. Got his corn crib full. They got home about 4. Fritz got home from the Hospital at Des Moines this morn. He had been there 5 weeks. Verna was over a few minutes in eve.

Wed. Mar. 24
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. The men husked corn all day. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Thurs. Mar. 25
Nice day. Thawed a lot. The men husked corn in A.M. Mon & I took some oats too Decorah in P.M. & had them ground. I had my eyes examined & had to leave my glasses too be changed. Got cooler at nite. Got a letter from Ruth.

Fri. Mar. 26
Nice day but cooler. Thawed a lot too. The men husked corn all day. Marion came over & helped so he was here for dinner. Mon took me too Club at Laura Berg's after dinner & then I rode back too B.O. with Brayton's & he came up there about 5:30 & got me. Only 10 of us at Club but we had a good time & a swell lunch. Got a letter from Isa & Dean got his classification card. 2B. Defered until Sept. Froze hard at nite.

Sat. Mar. 27
Colder day but the sun shone most of the day. We went over & got Marion about 11 & went too Decorah. Mrs. Whalen rode down & back with us. Large crowd in town. We got home about 6. Ruth Casterton & Irene Torgeson rode home from Decorah with us & Mon took them on too B.O. We went up town awhile in eve. Snowed some in the nite.

Sun. Mar. 28
Quite a nice day but a cool wind. Clyde Q. came down in A.M. & he & Dean went over too Ed Knoke's. Mon went up too Fritz a little while in A.M.

Mon. Mar. 29
Dandy nice warm day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. The men husked corn in A.M. Mon went too the School Directors Meeting at Fritz in P.M. Dean hauled in corn fodder. Mon & I went too Decorah about 4:30. I got my glasses. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Tues. Mar. 30
Nice day. The men husked corn. I went over to Pearl's awhile in P.M. Grace was there. John Mallick & Glen Clark brought the seeder Mon bought of John late this P.M.

Wed. Mar. 31
Not quite such a nice day but still not so bad. Sprinkled a little at noon but cleared off & was nice after that. The men husked corn. Archie Halvorson bro't our new brooder house this P.M. 12 by 14 for $120. It is a nice one. Fred W. came along in eve & stopped & Mon went too B.O. with him.

Thurs. Apr. 1
Nice day but a little cooler. The men finished husking about 11:30 & then Mon took me too B.O. to L.A.S. Mrs. Krumm & Stella Halse entertained. Had a good crowd & a dandy good dinner. Mon went out on the Red Cross drive after we got home & Dean hauled in corn fodder in P.M. Had another little calf today.

Fri. Apr. 2
Quite a nice day. Mon was out on the Red Cross Drive all day. Dean did odd jobs.

Sat. Apr. 3
Nice day but cool & windy. We went over & got Marion about 10:30 & then stopped & got mama & went to Decorah. I got my hair fixed & mama got a permanent. Large crowd in town. We got home about 6. Took Marion over & he did his chores & then came home too supper with us. We went up town in eve. Didn't get home until about 1:30. Cold nite. Gertie Barth & Lawrence Donlan were married this A.M.

Nice day but a terrible wind all day. Dean was gone all day. Dell & Mettie were here in P.M.

Mon. Apr. 5
Dandy nice day. The men sawed wood at Fred's in P.M. & we went over there & spent the eve so I met the bride. Loretta is at Muscatine.

Tues. Apr. 6
Not such a nice day. Dark, windy & chilly. I washed. The men hauled manure. Mon & I went up too mama's in P.M. & got her churn & dug the parsnips. We went down too Aunt Lissas a minute too. Vernie Perry died suddenly early this A.M.

Wed. Apr. 7
Dandy nice day. The men got Judy in the barn this morn & she tore it all up so they worked all day making the barn over. Mon & I went up north of Prosper in A.M. too see Leonard B. He had moved up there. Had quite a time too find his place but we did after while. I ironed in P.M. & raked & worked in the yard. Dean went with Arthur W. awhile in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 8
Dandy nice warm day. Mon took me too B.O. at noon too Vernie Perry's funeral. Dorothea R., Mrs. K. Mrs. Goodrick & I sang. "Going Down the Valley", "Sun of My Soul" & "Rock of Ages". Very large crowd out. I stopped in at Mrs. Koenigs a few minutes after the funeral. Mon came back up town after me about 4. Leonard B. came down in P.M. & they hitched up Judy & drove her around. Walt R. was here for dinner.

Fri. Apr. 9
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Sprinkled a little in P.M. The men drove the colt in A.M. She didn't go so bad after they got her hitched up. They drove her over too Marion's & back. We went too Decorah in P.M. Mon got a hair cut. Went over too Chas. in eve too a party. Just neighbors too meet Jessie. Had a good time dancing & playing cards. Had a nice lunch too. Got home about 1:30. Mama went too Decorah with us & she got a new hat & coat.

Quite a nice day. The men drove the colt in A.M. & then in P.M. we went & got Marion & took him & his eggs too Decorah. Didn't go up town in eve.

Sun. Apr. 11
Not very nice day. Rather chilly & windy. Had a nice shower in P.M. Mon & I went down on the creek south of Howards & Mon got 12 fish. I got some flowers. Dean went over on Louie's fishing, but he didn't get any.

Mon. Apr. 12
Colder today & quite windy. Sun shone part of the day. The men drove the colt in A.M. Albert Van Vleit was here in P.M. & fixed up our tornado insurance for another 5 yrs. Walt R. was here for dinner. Much colder at nite. Froze. We got a letter from Arthur today. He is in N. Africa. Mon got a card from Fritz K. today. He is at the Hines Hospital at Chicago.

Tues. Apr. 13
Cold windy day. The men cleaned the cistern & that is about all they did. Howard was here a couple of times. The men went up too B.O. in eve.

Wed. Apr. 14
Cold, windy day. Sun shone a little. The men drove the colt in A.M. & we went to Decorah in P.M. Dean got a hair cut & a new pair of shoes. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 15
Quite a nice day but still chilly. Mon & Dean drove Judy awhile in A.M. & then Mon took me up to L.A.S. Miriam W. & Mary Porter entertained. Quite a good crowd & a good dinner. Dean hauled manure. Had quite a bit of thunder & lightning in eve but it didn't rain much. Got much colder in the nite.

Cold windy day. The sun didn't shine much. I washed & ironed. The men hauled manure. Drove the colt a little while in P.M. Mon & I went over too Walt's a while in eve.

Sat. Apr. 17
Dandy nice day. We went over & got Marion about 11:30 & stopped at Krumm's on our way back & then up to B.O. & got Walt R. & went too Decorah. Dean got a new pair of pants for his Birthday. We went up town a while in eve. Dean didn't come home when we did. He came later with Clyde.

Sun. Apr. 18
Sprinkled a little early in A.M. & was quite warm but the wind soon got into the north & it was a cold, dark, windy day. We went over & got Lizzie about 10:30 & then down & got Mama & then too B.O. to church. Mama & Lizzie were baptized at the M.E. Church. Dean went up to Leonard B's. with Howard in P.M. Fred & Jessie came over in eve & Mon & I went too Decorah with them to the Show. "The Moon is Down". Roy was here awhile late in P.M.

Mon. Apr. 19
Mama's 72nd Birthday. Quite a nice day but cool & windy. The men bought a couple of jags of hay from Fred & they hauled them.

Dandy nice day only rather cool in A.M. Warmed up quite a bit in P.M. Dean started discing. Walt's hired man came about noon & he plowed in P.M. & eve. I washed & ironed.

Wed. Apr. 21
Nice day. Chas. was here & disced & plowed. Dean disced. Art W. was here awhile in eve. We went up town a little while in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 22
Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up & started too rain about 3:30 P.M. & rained the rest of P.M. & eve. Dandy nice rain. Chas. was here & plowed until it rained. Dean dragged in A.M. Mon started seeding in P.M. & seeded until it rained.

Fri. Apr. 23
Dandy nice day. Mon seeded part of the time & Dean dragged part of the time. He also hauled some manure. We went up town in eve. I went over to Clara McCabe's awhile.

Sat. Apr. 24
Dean's 23rd Birthday. Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & sprinkled some. Mon went over & got Ruth K. & she was here for dinner. Home for Easter. We took her home after dinner & went on too Decorah. Marion went too. I got my hair fixed. Marion came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Dean went to Decorah with Clyde. We got home about 11.

Quite a nice day but the wind was cold. Mon took mama & I too church in A.M. He & I went down too Bill Leonhart's in P.M. He went fishing but didn't get any. We got home about 7:30. Dean went with Clyde & was gone all day & eve.

Mon. Apr. 26
Not very nice day. Cold & windy. Rained some in P.M. Chas. plowed until it rained & then he went home. Mon & Dean took his car home about 5:30. Mr. Malli was here & bought some seed oats about supper time.

Tues. Apr. 27
Cold windy day but the sun shone most of the time. Dean hauled manure. Mon & I went too Decorah about 9:30 & didn't get home until about 2:30. Had some oats ground & had the car washed & greased. Had a letter from Isa today.

Wed. Apr. 28
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon dragged & Dean sowed grass seed today. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. Apr. 29
Cold windy day. Dean fixed fence. Mon took me too L.A.S. at the church. Picnic dinner. Pretty good crowd out. We went over too Albert E's. in P.M. Got stuck over by Winfield Bender's & Albert had too come up & pull us out. Mon got some seed corn & some lumber from Albert. Harry Q's. were over & spent the eve. Dean & Virginia, Lavern & Artie were over too Howard's awhile.

Fri. Apr. 30
Nice bright day but windy & cold. The men hitched up Judy too disc but she got them in a mixup so Mon went down too Bill Leonhart's & got some straps & they put a W on her & they drove her the rest of the day discing. Had lots of fun with her I guess. Mon took me too Club at Vallie Bestul's in P.M. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch. Florence brought me over as far as Louie's & then Roy & Bernice came along & I rode the rest of the way with them. Wind went down at nite but it was cold. Had another little calf today.

Sat. May 1
21º this morn. Ice in the chicken drink dish. Mon disced in A.M. & we went to Decorah in P.M. Quite a few in town. Got home about 6:30. Went up town in eve.

Sun. May 2
Nice bright day but quite windy. Dean went up too Clyde's in A.M. & went fishing with him. Mon took those straps back to Bill L. in A.M. & he fished awhile down there but he only got 1. Albert E's. came over in P.M. & we went down on Silver Creek. Mon & Norris got quite a few. They stayed for supper. Dean got some fish too. He & Mon each got a big one.

Mon. May 3
Windy day, but bright. Mon disced & Dean did odd jobs. We got 2 letters from Arthur & 1 from Ruth. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. Dean spaded up my little garden spot here in the yard in P.M.

Tues. May 4
Quite nice in A.M. but it clouded up later. Sprinkled quite hard later in P.M. & got colder & the wind blew hard. I washed & ironed & put in the little garden. Dean helped me some with that. Mon disced in A.M. & dragged in P.M. until the rain. He made gates for the hog house after that. Dean went with Clyde in eve. We had 4 little pigs today. The first ones.

Wed. May 5
Nice warm day but mighty windy. Clouded up late in P.M. & we had a nice rain. Some thunder & lightning too. Mon went over too Roy's in A.M. to a Contour Demonstration. He started too drag when he got back & dragged until noon & then Dean dragged in P.M. I went too Lutheran L.A.S. with Kate L. for dinner. Had a swell dinner. Mrs. Liestikow, Ruby R. Hilda E. & Gladys Reed entertained. Large crowd out. Darlene was here awhile after school. No one at home over there. She, Mon & I went over too Albert's a little while late in P.M. Got a Mother's Day Card from Ruth & a note too.

Thurs. May 6
Quite a nice day but the wind blew quite hard & it was rather cool. Dean cleaned out the cellar way in A.M. & then he dragged the rest of the day. Mon took off the storm windows & cleaned up the back yard & picked up junk took the banking away from the house & cleaned up in general. Verna was here awhile in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today.

Fri. May 7
Cold windy dark day. The men fixed fence in A.M. & Dean disced in P.M. Mon went over too Marions awhile.

Sat. May 8
Nice day. We went up & got mama about 12 & went too Decorah. Dean disced in A.M. I got my hair fixed & Mon & Dean got hair cuts. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her home in eve. Mon & I came home about 11:30 & Dean came a little later with Clyde.

Sun. May 9
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & got colder & tried too rain off & on the rest of the day & eve. We went too B.O. about 10:30. I went too Church & then we went up too mama's for dinner. Claude's & Howard McCabe were there too. Had a good dinner & good visit. Dave was here in A.M. awhile.

Mon. May 10
Quite a nice day. Dean dragged & disced. Chas. came back this P.M. too plow. Walt & Barbara came down after him at supper time. I had a letter from Isa.

Tues. May 11
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Chas. came back & finished the plowing here today. He got thro' about 3. Dean dragged & disced. Mon fixed fence & did other jobs. I planted some flowers. Dean went with the Vine & Quandahl kids fishing after chores. He didn't get any. It rained in the nite.

Wed. May 12
Not very nice day. Rained some in A.M. & was cold. Mon went over & got Marion & we went too Decorah.

Thurs. May 13
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean disced & dragged. Mon did odd jobs. Fixed fence some. Pearl was over at supper time & said Howard was sick so Mon took him too Mabel in eve too see Dr. Lannin.

Fri. May 14
Quite a nice day. Dean disced all day. Mon went over too Marions in A.M. & then in P.M. Marion came & helped put in the fence on the east side of the barn yard.

Sat. May 15
Rained all A.M. until after 1 & sometimes terribly hard. Windy & cold too. Rained hard again in eve. We went too Decorah after it quit raining. Saw Gene O'Brien who is home on a furlough. Went up town in eve. Mrs. Quandahl came home from town with us. Dean came later.

Sun. May 16
Not very nice day. Cold & windy. Dean went too B.O. in A.M. with Art W. & then too Harmony in eve too the Show with him. Mon & I went up town a minute in P.M. Went up too mama's a minute too. Floyd & Gladys B. were here in eve. Floyd fixed the wind shield wiper on the car.

Mon. May 17
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained some. Mon went over too Marion's early in A.M. & right back & then he & Dean fixed fence in A.M. Marion came over in P.M. & they fixed fence, moved the brooder house & did other jobs. Got a letter & package from Isa today. Mrs. Julia Miller died tonite. Had 7 little pigs tonite.

Tues. May 18
Quite a nice day. Dean dragged in A.M. & Mon started planting down across the hollow north of the house in P.M. Got a letter from Arthur & 1 from Ruth today. Had 7 little pigs tonite.

Wed. May 19
Nice warm day. I washed & ironed. Mon finished planting that small piece about the middle of the A.M. & then Dean started dragging the big piece. Got 2 letters from Arthur today. Dean went over to Howards in eve. Bill L. & his brother-in-law were here in eve. It sprinkled some late in eve.

Thurs. May 20
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Dean finished dragging about 10:30 & Mon started planting the big piece north of the house. Dean took me over too Ed Knoke's about 11 & I went too Decorah with them too Mrs. Millers funeral. We went down too Ed's fathers before the funeral, then to the funeral Home & then to the Cong. Church. Not such a big crowd out. Mrs. Miller looked so good only poor. We rode up too the cemetry with Clarence K's. Got back too Ad's about 5 & Dean came after me soon after that.

Fri. May 21
Dandy nice warm day. Mon planted corn all day. Finished that piece about 6. Dean was fussing with little pigs all day. Had 36 from 4 mothers today. I hoed my little garden for the first time today.

Sat. May 22
Dandy nice warm day. Dr. K. was here early in A.M. & did some work. Dean dragged all day or nearly all day. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & we went too Decorah in P.M. Got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Jack W. rode home with us & Mon took him on too B.O. Marion came home too supper with us & then we all went too B.O. in eve. Large crowd in B.O. We took Jack W. & Marion home. Got home about 12. Dean came later with Clyde.

Sun. May 23
Not such a nice day. Sprinkled some in P.M. Dean went up too Quandahls' in A.M. & went fishing with them & Mon went down on Silver Creek. He got home about 3 with about a doz. Dean got home about 5 with none. Fred & Art W. were here awhile in A.M. early. Arlin was here awhile in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Mon. May 24
Had quite a little shower early in A.M. & then it brightened up a little while but it clouded up again & sprinkled off & on all P.M. & eve & nite for that matter. Dean went over too Marion's with the team in A.M. & got some boards & Marion came home with him. Mon & Marion fixed the brooder house some in P.M. Dean disced some in P.M. Mon took Marion home after supper & then Mon & I went up too see Fritz in eve awhile. He just got back from the Hospital Sat. Had some more little pigs today & nite.

Tues. May 25
Not very nice day. Rained almost all day & sometimes quite hard. Mon went too Decorah in A.M. & got the soy bean seed. He & I went too B.O. late in P.M. Went up too mama's a minute. Dean went with Art W. in eve.

Wed. May 26
Not very nice day. Did odd jobs all day. Walt R. was here for dinner.

Thurs. May 27
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice. Dean disced all day. Mon took Lizzie up town about 11:30. We went too L.A.S. Florence E. & Maxine entertained. Very large crowd out. Had a good dinner. Mon came back after us in P.M.

Fri. May 28
Dandy nice day. Got mighty warm before the day was over. Mon planted the piece of corn over east too corn today. Didn't get thro' until after 7. Dean & I went up too the school house too the Picnic. Quite a few out & a swell dinner. Dean & Clyde came down here & then went on down too the creek right after dinner. I stayed to the Program & rode home with Pearl. I washed this A.M. & ironed after I got home from the school house. Dean went with the kids in eve tick tacking.

Sat. May 29
Very warm day. Got a letter from Isa today. Dean dragged until about 11 & then it rained so hard for a little while. Well he was done anyway. Mon went out & helped him in with his horses & then he went over & got Marion & we went too Decorah after dinner. Large crowd in town. Went up town in eve. Large crowd up there too. I sat in the car with Fern & the girls most of the eve. Mon & I came home about 11. Anna Whalen rode home with us. Dean came with Clyde.

Sun. May 30
Warm day but it tried too rain all day & about 5:30 it did just pour down for a while. Mon & I went down too Claude's & spent the day. Dean & Clyde went down after the foxes again but didn't get them. Harry Q. was here awhile late in P.M.

Mon. May 31
Nice warm day. Rained off & on all day & very hard a couple of times in A.M. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & he helped him with some work & then Mon took him up too Gust's too help Gust fix fence. It rained so hard while Mon was up there that he couldn't get the car out of the field so he walked home & he & Dean went up in P.M. & got it. We went up town awhile in P.M. I went up too mama's. Got a letter from Arthur today written the 30th of April. V mail too.

Tues. June 1
Had a bad storm about 4:20 A.M. Bad wind, thunder & lightning & a regular cloud burst. The power was off from then until 10:40. Cleared off later in the day & was nice & plenty hot too. The men took the milk up too Ludvigs & separated. Mon & I took a grist too Decorah in P.M. Large crowd in town. Had too wait until 6:30 before we could get the grist. Went up too the cemetry & up on Pleasant Hill while we were waiting. Rained in the nite.

Wed. June 2
Looked rainy in A.M. & most of P.M. too. Sun shone some too. Quite warm. I went too B.O. with Kate L. after dinner & helped her in P.M. She, Marie Jaarstad & Dorothy Emmons entertained the Lutheran L.A.S. Quite a crowd out for supper. Had a good supper. We got home about 8:30. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Thurs. June 3
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went over too Marion's in P.M. & then took him up town. We went up town a little while in eve.

Fri. June 4
Nice day but the wind was cold all day. The men plowed & dragged the big garden today. Mon took me too B.O. to Club at Agnes W's. at noon. Not so many out but we had a good time & a good lunch. I rode down to the 4 corners with Muriel T. & started too walk home from there but didn't get far when Fred & Jessie came along & I rode with them. We got a letter from Arthur today that was written Mch. 14th when he was on the ship going across.

Sat. June 5
Rained some in A.M. & off & on all day & eve. We went too Decorah about 11. Marion & Mama went along with us. Mon & Dean each got a hair cut & I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her home in eve. Large crowd in B.O. in eve. We took Marion home. Got home about 11:30. Dean came later.

Sun. June 6
Not very nice day. Cold, dark & dreary. Dean went in A.M. too help Art. W. get some of their horses out of Snell's pasture. He & Art came back here awhile in P.M. & then they went over too Howard's awhile. Mon went fishing in P.M. Got 12. Had another little calf today.

Mon. June 7
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Still cool. We planted potatoes & set out tomato & cabbage plants & planted some garden. Mon & I went too Canton about 4:30. Got back home about 6:30.

Tues. June 8
Not so nice early in A.M. Rained some but cleared off later & was quite nice. Mon went over too Marion's awhile in A.M. Dean mowed the lawn & raked most of it in A.M. He disced in P.M. Mon & I finished up raking & hauling away the grass in P.M. & I hoed my little garden.

Wed. June 9
Not so nice in A.M. but quite nice in P.M. Dean disced & dragged until about 2:30 P.M. & then Mon started planting beans. I went over to Pearl's awhile in P.M. & then Verna, Darlene & Sonny came home with me for a while. We went up town in eve. Mon & I went over too Ben W's. too see Dana. He is home on a furlough.

Thurs. June 10
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean started plowing corn today. Mon finished planting beans this A.M. He sharpened corn plow shovels in P.M. I finished planting the big garden this P.M. after I finished ironing. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Fri. June 11
Not very nice day. Sprinkled some in A.M. & looked rainy all P.M. Sprinkled a few times in P.M. too but not much. Dean mowed the lawn in A.M. They plowed corn in P.M. Genevra & Joyce S. were here a few minutes in eve too get money for the minister. It looked like a bad storm in the nite, but we didn't get it.

Sat. June 12
Mighty warm day. The men plowed corn in A.M. & Dean plowed in P.M. Mon, Marion & I went too Decorah in P.M. Not so many in town as usual. Got home about 6. Went up town in eve. Large crowd in town. Mon & I came home about 12:30 & Dean came later.

Sun. June 13
Rained hard in A.M. & again about 6 P.M. Was rather nice during the middle of the day. Mon & I took Dave & Lizzie over too Maxine's & spent the day. Dean went with Art. W. awhile.

Mon. June 14
Rained very hard early in A.M. but was quite nice the rest of the day. Plenty warm. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. & got 500 little chickens. Dean went over too Howard's awhile in eve. Rained & blowed hard in the nite. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Tues. June 15
Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day. Plenty warm. The men cleaned up the disc & corn plow & put them away & did odd jobs like that. Dean mowed the lawn late in P.M.

Wed. June 16
Not such a nice day. Quite warm. Tried too rain off & on all day. Just sprinkled though until about 5:30 it did rain for a little while. Dean mowed the lawn in A.M. They plowed corn in P.M. Mon went over too Howard's a while in A.M. & Sonny came home with him & stayed until after dinner. Verna came after him then. We had lots of fun with him. Had a letter from Arthur & one from Marie & Isa. Ruth came home from Hammond today.

Thurs. June 17
Dandy nice day but cooler. I washed & ironed. The men plowed corn. We went up town in eve awhile. I went up too mama's awhile too.

Fri. June 18
Nice day. Quite warm & windy. The men plowed all day. Mon took me up too Gladys' at noon too Club. Quite a few out & we had a dandy lunch. I rode down to the corner with Anita & Violet & walked the rest of the way home. Dean went up too Quandahl's with Art a while in eve. Jimmie & Irene Keck & kiddies were here in eve & got some setting eggs.

Sat. June 19
Pretty warm day. The men plowed corn in A.M. & then in P.M. we went over & got Marion & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Quite a few in town. Got home about 6:30. Went up town in eve. Marion rode home with us. Got home about 12. Very large crowd up town. Dean came later with Art W.

Sun. June 20
Nice warm day. Mon & I went up too mama's about 10 & picked the strawberries. Got 6 qts. Dean went down on Pine Creek in A.M. & then came home after dinner & went down on Silver Creek. Mon went down on Silver Creek in P.M. too. They both got a nice string of fish. Ruth K. walked over about 6 & Mon & I took her home about 10.

Mon. June 21
Mighty hot day. Looked pretty rainy in eve but didn't rain, but we did have quite a bit of thunder & lightning in the nite & a little rain. The men plowed corn all day. I worked in the big garden some in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. I got a card from "Wimpie" today.

Tues. June 22
Warm day again, but a cooler breeze. Mon plowed corn all day. Dean mowed the lawn & mowed weeds in A.M. & then plowed corn in P.M. I worked in the garden some in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went up too mama's awhile. Frank Sullivan died this A.M.

Wed. June 23
Mighty warm day again only a nice breeze. I washed & ironed. The men took the calves over too Marion's this A.M. & then Marion was here for dinner & Mon took him home after dinner. They plowed corn in P.M. & Dean plowed the big garden. Mon & I went down to the river after chores & got some sand for the chickens. Stopped at Roy's a little while on our way back. Mart L. was here awhile at supper time.

Thurs. June 24
Hot day. The men plowed corn in A.M. & Dean did in P.M. Mon & I went too Frank Sullivan's funeral in P.M. Fritz & Ruth went with us too. Large crowd out. Ruth & Shirley sang. Velda Kess sang one song too. I went up too mama's afterward & picked the berries. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Fri. June 25
Hot day again. The men plowed corn & finished up quite early. Dean plowed the garden again after he got thro' with the corn.

Sat. June 26
Mighty hot day. Mon went over too Louie's a minute in A.M. & then went over & got Marion & we went too Decorah about 12. Dave went with us. Not so many in town. Dean got a hair cut. We went up town in eve. Marion rode up & back with us. Got home about 1. Dean came later with Clyde.

Sun. June 27
Very nice in A.M. but mighty hot. Dean went fishing early in A.M. & then back to Marions for dinner & then with Clyde in P.M. Mon went over & got Ruth about 11:30 & we went over too Marion's. Alberts were there too. It looked so stormy we came home about 3. Had quite a storm. Hard wind & a bad dust storm before the rain. Dean came home just before it rained. Maxine & Arlin were here for lunch. Mon took Ruth home about 7. Dean went to Calmar in eve with Clyde too take Edna K. to the train. It rained hard in the nite too. Got much cooler.

Mon. June 28
Nice day but quite cool. Dean mowed the lawn in A.M. & did odd jobs in P.M. Mon worked at the school books in A.M. & he did odd jobs in P.M. We had a letter from Arthur. Had another little calf today.

Tues. June 29
Cold, windy day. Sun shone a little until late in P.M. it cleared up & was nice but a cold nite. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & Dean fixed fence. They finished the fence in P.M. & fixed the hay loader.

Wed. June 30
40º this morn. Quite a nice day & somewhat warmer. I washed & ironed. The men plowed corn. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Thurs. July 1
Nice day but still cool. The men plowed corn. Dean plowed the garden again & I hoed it in P.M. We had School Meeting here in eve. Louie K., Fritz & Harry Q. were here. Joe W. didn't get his chores done in time.

Fri. July 2
Quite a nice day & warmer. Clouded up in P.M. & we had quite a shower about 7 P.M. The men plowed corn. Finished getting thro' all the corn & beans tonite.

Sat. July 3
Not such a nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day & Rained very hard late in P.M. We went over & got Marion & then up & got mama in A.M. & went too Decorah. Quite a few in town. I got my hair fixed & Mon got a hair cut. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her home in eve. We came home about 12. Anna Whalen rode home with us. Dean came home with us too. Little son born too Dorothy & Harold S. but he died.

Sun. July 4
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice warm day. Dean went up too Ludvigs in A.M. & spent the day. Mon & I went too the Club picnic at the swimming pool. Pretty good crowd out. Had a good dinner. Clyde & Edna Knoke & Dean were here when we got home & Clyde & Edna were here for supper. Dean went with them in eve. It rained hard in the nite.

Mon. July 5
Not such a nice day although the sun did shine a little. Rained hard in P.M. Dean mowed the lawn in A.M. Mon went out & put up school notices. Hard Seelye's baby was buried this A.M.

Tues. July 6
Not so nice in A.M. Sprinkled off & on all A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. Warmer. Mon & I went too Decorah in P.M. for chick feed. Got a letter from Arthur & one from Isa. I went down too the Hospital a minute too see Dorothy Seelye.

Wed. July 7
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went up too Gust's in A.M. & Dean mowed weeds. They went too Mabel in P.M. too get repairs for the Frigidare. Fred W. was over & spent the eve. Jessie is up at her folks for a few days.

Thurs. July 8
Pretty hot day. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon hoed potatoes in A.M. & plowed corn in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's a minute in eve.

Fri. July 9
Mighty warm day. The men plowed corn & beans. Had a letter from Arthur today.

Sat. July 10
Mighty warm day. Mon plowed corn in A.M. We went too Decorah in P.M. Irene Vine went with us. It rained down there but not here. Not so many in town. We got home about 6. Went up town in eve. Quite a crowd in town. Marcella Erickson & Roy Fitch were married this eve at the Lutheran church. We came home about 12.

Sun. July 11
Hot day again. Dean & Clyde went fishing all day. Mon & I went over too Marions in eve & Dean stopped at Ludvig's. Bill & Lenna & another young man came over too Marions just after we got there.

Mon. July 12
Mighty warm day. Dean plowed the garden in A.M. & Mon started mowing hay rather late in A.M. & mowed again in P.M. He had too go up town for repairs at noon. Harry Q. was here in A.M. We had a letter from Arthur today. It came in just a week. Dean went over too Howards a little while in eve.

Tues. July 13
Mighty hot day but still quite a breeze. I washed & ironed. Mon mowed in A.M. & then they bro't up a load of hay at noon. We put in hay in P.M. too. It looked like a pretty bad storm in eve & the wind blew rather hard for a little while but we just got some rain. We went up town in eve awhile. Jack Whalen rode home with us.

Wed. July 14
Warm day. Howard came over early in A.M. with the tractor & moved the brooder house. Pearl & the kids came over with him & stayed a while. Dean & I worked with the chickens most of the A.M. Mon mowed thistles. Harry got the hay poles at Howard's about noon & Dean helped him & they put them up out in the field after dinner. They put up 2 loads of hay out there late in P.M. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Thurs. July 15
Dandy nice warm day. They hayed all day. I went down in the field awhile in P.M.

Fri. July 16
Started too rain about 9:30 & kept it up off & on all day & sometimes quite hard. They went down too hay but just got one load up down there & it started too rain so they bro't one up & put it in the barn. All of Harry's but Virginia came up too the house & they stayed awhile after they got the hay in. Dean went over & got Marion & he had dinner with us & then we went too Decorah. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed & Dean got a hair cut. We didn't get home until about 7. Marion didn't come with us. He came later with Chas. W.

Sat. July 17
Nice day. We went too Decorah again in P.M. Not so many in town. Got home about 6. Went up town in eve. Came home about 12. Ludvig & Addie rode home with us. Dean went too Decorah with Clyde. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Sun. July 18
Quite a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up & rained in eve. Mon went fishing with Harry in A.M. Dean was gone all day. Mon & I went up too Ludvigs in P.M. Ed Knoke's were there too. Had lunch up there. Marion & Marvin were here awhile in A.M.

Mon. July 19
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. They started too put up hay in P.M. & got part of one load up & the hay rope broke so Harry & Mon went too Decorah & got a new one. We had a letter from Arthur today. Harry's & us went down too the hay stack in eve & put up the new hay rope. The kids had lots of fun.

Tues. July 20
Nice day. They hayed all day. We went up town in eve. Jack Whalen rode home with us. It looked pretty stormy but didn't rain. Had another little calf today.

Wed. July 21
Nice day but quite windy. Quite a little cooler. Mon mowed until about 10:30 & then he came up too the house & took me too Decorah. Got a "shot". We got home about 12:30. They put hay in our barn in P.M. Got in 5 big loads. Dean & Lavern loaded them with the tractor & then Mon went down with the team & got them & it worked pretty slick.

Thurs. July 22
Dandy nice day. They hayed all day. We had a letter from Sid B. telling us about a letter they got from Lucile telling of seeing Arthur. Mon was taken sick in P.M. & was sick all nite. Didn't get much rest.

Fri. July 23
Not a very nice day. Looked quite rainy at times. Rained quite hard about 6. They hayed all day. Finished up the stack & bro't the last part of a jag up & put it in the barn just before it rained. Mon felt real bad all A.M. & we came too Decorah too see Dr. in P.M. & he bro't Mon right too the Hospital & put him in bed. Pneumonia. I rode back up town with Dr. & Art W. was down town with Fred so he drove our car home for me. Dean quit haying & went right at the chores right away & when he finished them we went over & got Art W. & came back too the Hospital. I stayed here then. Mon didn't put in a very good nite. We didn't either one get much sleep. Gust & Kate were down home a few minutes while Dean was milking.

Sat. July 24
Not such a nice day. Mon isn't too good. Clyde drove our car down for Dean & mama & Marion came along. I went up town with them a few minutes in P.M. Mama went down too stay with Dean & Marion is going too help him with the milking. Mon didn't put in a very good nite. We had 3 letters from Arthur.

Sun. July 25
Quite a nice day. Mon isn't too good. Ruth drove the car & she & mama & Dean came down in P.M. Mon put in a hard nite coughed all nite.

Mon. July 26
Nice in A.M. Had quite a hard wind storm & quite a little shower at noon. Mon wasn't very good all day. They took an X Ray picture of his back in A.M. He rested much better tonite.

Tues. July 27
Quite a nice day. Mon seems better today. Ruth came down about 10 & I went out home & stayed until about 4. She bro't me back again. Dean was shocking at Harry's so I didn't see him. Mon put in a pretty good nite.

Wed. July 28
Rained hard most of A.M. but cleared off in P.M. Mon feels better today. Dean got Clyde too drive our car down too Decorah & I came home with them Howard & Allen were along too. We got home about 2. Mama & I went up in the garden & picked some peas & a couple of pails of beans. Just got back too the house when Uncle Albert & Aunt Eunice came. They stayed for supper & until about 9.

Thurs. July 29
Dandy nice day. Mama & I canned 12 qts. of beans this A.M. & then we took Marion home too change his clothes & then went up too L.A.S. at the church. Quite a crowd out & a dandy dinner. Mabel Headington & Edith Perry entertained. Ruth & Mrs. K. were going too Decorah in P.M. so I went along & went down too see Henry. He feels better today. Mama stayed up at her home. Dean, Marion & I went up town a little while in eve. Harry started cutting our grain this P.M. He & Lavern were here for supper. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Fri. July 30
Dandy nice day. They cut & shocked grain here today. Harry & Lavern were here for dinner & Gust helped in P.M. & he was here for supper. Florence E. came over after me in P.M. & I went too Club at Anita's. Had a swell lunch. Quite a few members out.

Sat. July 31
Nice day. They finished cutting & shocking our grain early this A.M. Gust & Howard helped shock so they were all here for dinner. Ruth drove our car too Decorah in P.M. so she, Dean & I spent most of the P.M. with Mon. He seems better today. Had a flat tire when we were ready too leave the Hospital so we had too get that fixed before we left town. Marion helped Bill Erickson in P.M. We went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Aug. 1
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. Ruth drove our car too Decorah again this P.M. Mama & Marion went along with us. Ruth, Dean & Mama went to the Show & Marion went up town so Mon & I were alone most of the P.M. Claude, Olive & Marvin were there a little while. Mama came home too supper with us. We took Marion home & Florence & Albert the kids were there so we visited awhile there & then took mama home.

Mon. Aug. 2
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up & looked terribly bad about noon & the wind blew hard but it only sprinkled here then but it started too rain later & rained most of the P.M. but just a nice rain. I washed but all the clothes didn't get dry. I ironed what did get dry in P.M. Dean finished mowing the hay in A.M. & bro't up a jag at noon & he & I got it in the barn. Harry & Artie were here in P.M. They had a bad electrical storm at Wes Wicks at noon & one man was killed & 3 others knocked down.

Tues. Aug. 3
Not very nice day. Damp & cool. Dean went over & got Ruth about 9:30 & we went too Decorah about 11. I got my hair fixed. We went down too the Hospital about 1:30 & got Mon & bro't him home. Gosh it was good too get him home & he was plenty tired when he got home. Ruth came on home with us & stayed awhile & then Dean took her home. Dean went up town awhile in eve. Jess Sullivan died suddenly about 5 P.M.

Wed. Aug. 4
Not a very nice day. Brightened up some in P.M. though. Mon is better today but weak. We got a letter from Arthur & one from Isa today. Dean took Marion too B.O. after chores but came right back. Ed Knoke's were over & spent the eve.

Thurs. Aug. 5
Dandy nice day but still the wind was cool. Mon & Dean took Marion home in A.M. & stayed over there awhile. Mon took Marion too B.O. in P.M. too Jess Sullivan's Funeral at the M.E. Church. Marion was one of the pall bearers. Ruth K. & Mrs. Maynard Newhouse sang for the Funeral. Dean & Harry's finished putting up the hay in P.M. but it was about 7 when they got thro'.

Fri. Aug. 6
Dandy nice day. Dean helped hay at Fritz's in A.M. & he & Harry Q. were here for dinner & then they went threshing in P.M. at Fred's. Mon & I went over there in P.M. & I helped Jessie a little. Vera & the kids were there too. We got home about 8 & Ruth was here visiting with Dean he was milking when we got home & then Mon went & got Marion. It was quite late when they finished chores. Mon & I took Marion home.

Sat. Aug. 7
Pretty hot. Dandy nice day. Dean threshed at Fred's in A.M. & Roy's in P.M. Marion, Mon & I went too Decorah about 12:30. Mon got a hair cut. We went too see Dr. Dalquist & he said Mon was coming just fine & could do work that didn't tire him too much so he helped milk tonite. We went up town in eve. Dean went too Mabel to the Show with Clyde. Mon, Marion & I came home about 11.

Sun. Aug. 8
Pretty warm day. Dean & Clyde went fishing. Mon & I were alone all day. We went over too Marions about 4 & picked some raspberries. Chas. Porter was at Marions when we got there. Had quite a rain in the nite & quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Mon. Aug. 9
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Mon was over too Howard's a few minutes in A.M. Dean mowed the lawn in A.M. & then both of the men fixed roosts in the brooder house in P.M. I canned some in P.M. Had 2 letters from Arthur today & his "Insurance business".

Tues. Aug. 10
Plenty warm. Dandy nice day. Dean threshed at Howard's in A.M. & at Fritz in P.M. (Vines oats) I helped Pearl. Grace & Vera were there too. Mon went up too Fritz's in P.M.

Wed. Aug. 11
Rather cloudy at times but not a bad day. Mighty warm. I washed & ironed. Dean threshed at Vine's all day. Mon went too Decorah in A.M. & didn't get back until about 4:30. Got the car fixed. We went up town a little while in eve. Rained in eve & nite.

Thurs. Aug. 12
Quite a nice day. Dean went up too Vine's threshing in P.M. They finished there quite early. Had a bad storm in the nite. So much lightning just one flash right after another & so much rain. About 3 ½ inches fell here. Ruth was here awhile tonite.

Fri. Aug. 13
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. We went up town in P.M. awhile. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Sat. Aug. 14
Quite a nice day. Mon & I went up & got mama after dinner & went too Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her home in eve. Dean threshed at Ole's in P.M. Dean went with Clyde too Matter's in eve. Mrs. Q. rode home from town with us. We got home about 11:30. I got Arthur's allotment of $70 today. (Raised from $30)

Sun. Aug. 15
Rained early in A.M. & then cleared off & was quite nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & we had quite a storm again. Rained very hard. Dean was gone most of the day. Arlin F. was here awhile in P.M. Much cooler tonite.

Mon. Aug. 16
Not such a nice day. Cloudy & looked rainy & quite cool. I washed & ironed. Mon mowed some weeds. Dean cut some wood. He went over too Howard's in eve. We got a letter from Arthur today. Cold nite.

Tues. Aug. 17
Quite a nice day but cool. Gust was down awhile in A.M. Mon took Dean up there about 10 too help Gust turn out shocks. They threshed there in P.M. We had our first spring chicken for dinner today. Mon & I went up too Gust's a minute in P.M. & then on to Mabel. Fritz went along with us. Got 2 letters from Arthur today. They came in 7 days. Cold nite.

Wed. Aug. 18
40º this morn. Dandy nice day but cool. We were all up at Ludvig's all day threshing. Mrs. Vine helped in P.M. too.

Thurs. Aug. 19
Nice day. Dean threshed at Harry's in A.M. & Jack Whalen's in P.M. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & then over where they were threshing. He went too B.O. in P.M. We all went up town in eve awhile. Had a letter from Arthur today.

Fri. Aug. 20
Cloudy almost all day. Brightened up some late in P.M. We threshed here in A.M. finished up shortly after dinner. Jessie, Pearl & Mrs. Q. helped me. Mon had too go to Decorah for meat in A.M. so he didn't get back until almost 12. Gave them hamburgers. We took Pearl & the kids & Jessie home about 3:30 & then we went up town a little while later in P.M. Dean helped Roy in P.M. thresh out his timothy but that didn't take long.

Sat. Aug. 21
Nice warm day. Mon & I went up & got Mama in A.M. & went to Decorah. We had dinner & then went down too the Fair. Not such a large crowd but the Free Acts were good. Mama came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Dean went too the Fair in eve with Curtis Foltz. Olive & Marvin sat in the car with me & visited. We came home about 11. Ludvig rode home with us.

Sun. Aug. 22
Quite a warm day & nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & looked quite rainy. We did have a hard storm in the nite. Much lightning & thunder & rain. Dean went up town awhile during the day.

Mon. Aug. 23
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy day. Quite warm. Mama called in A.M. that Loyal was up there for the day so Mon & Dean went up & got them & they came down for dinner & stayed until about 4. I went back up town with them & stayed at mama's. Loyal started back too his work at Ankeny. We got 2 letters from Arthur.

Tues. Aug. 24
Not such a bad day. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean fixed fence awhile & did odd jobs. Ruth & Louie K. were here awhile just after dinner. We had a letter from Arthur. Rained some in the nite.

Wed. Aug. 25
Not such a nice day but pretty warm. Mon went up & got mama in A.M. & she came down & spent the day. We dressed chickens for tomorrow. We took her home in eve. Just as we were going too take her home Roy & Bernice came & they went along with us. We didn't stay too long up town. Mon got some ice cream so we had that when we got home. Roy's stayed awhile. Dean came home later with Clyde. Rained some in the nite.

Thurs. Aug. 26
Not very nice day. A little cooler. Mon & Dean took me up too the church about 10:15. Mama & I entertained L.A.S. for dinner. Had a good dinner & a big crowd. Took in $21.78. Dean went with Clyde in eve over too Knoke's.

Fri. Aug. 27
Not such a nice day. Cool. Did a little of everything in A.M. The men did odd jobs. Mon took me too Club at Dorothy Emmon's in P.M. Quite a few of the girls there. Had a dandy lunch. Leonard Blaess hauled a heifer too Decorah for us this A.M. Took her down to the Sale.

Sat. Aug. 28
Much nicer today. The sun shone most of the day & it was warmer. Mon went over & got Marion & we went too Decorah about 11. Quite a few in town. I got my hair fixed. Got home about 5:30. Ole rode up from Decorah with us. Went up town in eve. The Club had an ice cream Social at the Hall in eve for the benefit of the Cemetry. Did pretty good. We got home about 12. Jimmie W. rode home with us.

Sun. Aug. 29
Nice day. Warmer. Dean was gone all day. Fritz was here awhile in A.M.

Mon. Aug. 30
Dandy nice day. Mon went up & got Mama in A.M. & we canned shell beans & corn. 6 qts. beans & 12 ½ qts. corn. Mon took her home about 5. Rained off & on nearly all nite. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Got 2 letters from Arthur today.

Tues. Aug. 31
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day but mighty windy. Mon went too Decorah in P.M. with [Fred?] Dean mowed road side & fixed fence. I canned some peaches. We went up town in eve. Rained again in the nite. Little daughter born too Opal & Leonard Blaess this morn.

Wed. Sept. 1
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon went over too Marion's early in morn & bro't him over for breakfast. They took care of the pigs. We have 84 little ones. Mon & Dean took Marion home after dinner. We did up our chores early & left here about 5:15 for Cresco Fair. Took Marion & Clyde along. Got out there about 6:30. Had supper out there. Quite a crowd there but nothing much going on. Stayed until about everything was over. Got home about 2.

Thurs. Sept. 2
Dandy nice day. I washed. Ruth was over awhile in A.M. & then she came over again after dinner & we all went down on the creek back of Billie L's fishing. Got 57 of the little fellows. Ruth stayed for supper & until after chores. Mon & I took her home. We went up too B.O. a little while first. Went up too mama's a minute. We had a good time on our fishing trip. Harry Q. was here awhile just after dinner.

Fri. Sept. 3
Dandy nice day. Plenty warm. I canned peaches in A.M. & ironed in P.M. Dean hauled manure. Mon dug potatoes. I went out & picked up potatoes after I finished ironing. Got a letter from Isa today. Dean went over too Howards in eve.

Sat. Sept. 4
Not a very nice day. Rained in A.M. & off & on again in P.M. We went over & got Marion & then up & got mama & went too Decorah. Quite a crowd in town. Mama & Marion came home too supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Had quite a storm while we were up town. Plenty of lightning & thunder & rained hard. Got home about 11:30.

Sun. Sept. 5
Quite a nice day. Claude, Olive & Marvin were over & spent the day. Dean went fishing part of the day with Harry Q. They got quite a few. Colder tonite. Wind blew mighty in the nite.

Mon. Sept. 6
Cold dark damp day. Rained some. Sun shone some in A.M. We went up too Ludvigs in A.M. & got some apples. Cold nite.

Tues. Sept. 7

Cool day but a little brighter. Dean hauled manure. Mon took me too L.A.S. at the church. Muriel T. & Em Allen served. Good crowd & a good dinner. I took some yarn down to Mary Porter in P.M. for her to knit me a sweater. We had a letter form Arthur today.

Fri. Sept. 10
Not such a bad day. Dean hauled manure. Mon mowed weeds in A.M. & dug potatoes in P.M. I canned apples.

Sat. Sept. 11
Not too bad a day. Mon, Dean & I went too Decorah about 11. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Chilly windy nite. Marion rode home from B.O. with us. Got a letter from Arthur. We stopped at Krumms a minute on our way home from Decorah. Ruth is home for the week end as Ken, his wife & baby are here for a furlough. Dean mowed the lawn this morn.

Sun. Sept. 12
Rained almost all day & sometimes mighty hard. Snowed a little to I think. Cold & windy. Mon, Dean, Dave, Lizzie & I went over too Maxine's & spent the day. Mrs. Bender & Vernie were there too. Had a good dinner & a good time. Saw Rex & May & the kiddies at Ernie's on our way home. They have a dandy nice baby.

Mon. Sept. 13
Not very nice day. Dark & damp & cool. Dean cut wood most of the day & Mon cut in P.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Tues. Sept. 14
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy day. Mon & I went too Decorah in A.M. with a grist. Didn't get back until about 1:30. Dean cut off some corn in A.M. & then he gathered it up in P.M. Mon went over too Marion's & Fritz's in P.M. Lizzie was here awhile in P.M. I got a crate of prunes & 1 of pears in Decorah $2.39 each. Mon, Dean, Fritz, Marion & Ole went too Breezy Hill about 6:15 P.M. to a Veteran's Stag Party. They didn't get home until after 5 A.M.

Wed. Sept. 15
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean hauled manure & Mon did odd jobs. He dug some potatoes. Cold nite.

Thurs. Sept. 16
30º this morn. Things were white with frost but nothing was hurt. Dandy nice day. Dean hauled manure. He went over too Howard's in eve. I canned tomatoes. Howard took Pearl too Iowa City today for exams.

Fri. Sept. 17
Nice day. Mon finished digging potatoes the men picked a jag of corn & did other things. Dean helped Louie awhile in A.M. sawing wood. We had a letter from Arthur today. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. I canned pears & prunes today. Howard & Pearl got home in the nite tonite.

Sat. Sept. 18
Quite a nice day. We went too Decorah about 11:30 Allen went with us. Large crowd in town. Dean got a hair cut. Allen came home too supper with us. We went up town in eve. Went up too mama's a few minutes. She has been down too Archie Wards for a couple of weeks & is going back again tomorrow. I fainted in the store & caused a lot of excitement. We came home about 12. Marion rode home with us.

Cloudy rainy nasty cool day all day. Just sat around all day. Froze ice on some water tonite.

Mon. Sept. 20
30º this morn. Our 27th Wedding Anniversary. Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy nice day. Mon & I took a grist too Decorah about 10 A.M. but had too wait too get it ground so we didn't get home until after 2. Mon & Dean got a jag of corn in P.M. Dean walked too B.O. in eve. I went too see Dr. D. today. The frost didn't hurt anything much, just nipped some of the corn a little.

Not such a nice day. Sprinkled a little after dinner. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Leonhart's in A.M. Fritz was here on the Bond Drive after dinner.

Wed. Sept. 22
30º this morn. Quite a nice day. Terribly windy. Dean hauled manure all day. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. but he wasn't home. I canned tomatoes in P.M. Mon & I went too B.O. awhile in eve. Got a letter from Ruth today. The men got a jag of corn in P.M. late.

Nice day. Dean hauled manure. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. but he wasn't home. I went too B.O. about 11 with Maxine, Bernice & Lizzie. B. & L. entertained M.E.L.A.S. at the church. Quite a few out & they had a dandy dinner. We got home about 3.

Fri. Sept. 24
Nice day but cool. Mon took me too B.O. at noon & I went too Club at Iona's. He was in B.O. when I got back from there so I had a ride home. Quite a few girls out & we had a swell lunch. Dean helped fill silo at Ludvigs in P.M. Ole & Gladys were here awhile after school.

Sat. Sept. 25
Nice day. We were all up at Ludvigs helping until about 2:30. [Alan?] came home with us & he helped the men get a jag of corn. We did up the chores early & Mon & I went too Decorah. Had supper down there & run around there until about 10 & then went too B.O. for a while. Dean went with Clyde too Calmar too meet Edna. He didn't get home until about 5 A.M. The car refused too start at Ed's so they walked home.

Dandy nice day. Mon & Dean went too B.O. about 10 & then Dean went with Clyde down too Ed's too fix the car. Mon & I went too Claude's & spent the day. Mama was there too & we took her home. Clyde & Edna were here for supper & then Dean went too the Show with them in eve.

Dandy nice day. Mighty warm. I washed & ironed. Mon started cutting beans. Dean did odd jobs.

Tues. Sept. 28
Nice day. We got a jag of corn in A.M. I went out & drove team for them breaking out a new land. Dean went up & got Gust's rake at noon & Mon raked beans in P.M. & Dean piled them. Dean went too Calmar in eve with Clyde too take Edna & Jean. They went too Chicago. Mon & I went up town awhile.

Wed. Sept. 29
Nice day. Mon finished cutting beans in A.M. & raked. Dean went up & got Ludvig in A.M. & he helped pile beans & then Mon went & got Wes Mount at noon & he helped so they finished about 4:30. Mon & Dean took the men home after supper. I went over too Pearl's awhile in P.M. Rained in the nite.

Thurs. Sept. 30
Quite a nice day. Mon & I went too Decorah in A.M. & didn't get back until about 4. We all went down too Bill L's. & got some walnuts after we got home. Dean got a jag of corn. It rained very hard in the nite. We gathered up two crates of young roosters in eve. Mon got a hair cut today & I got my hair fixed.

Dandy nice day. Mon & I went too Decorah about 9:15. Took the chickens down & he got the car fixed. We didn't get away from town until after 4. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Dandy nice day. We all went too Decorah. Took mama along & she got a permanent. Saw Ruth Padden in town. Mama came home too supper with us & then we took her home in eve. Not so many in town tonite. We came home about 11.

Dandy day. Mon, Mama & I went too Frankville & got Uncle Dan & then on too Postville too dinner with Ruth & Francis. Had a grand dinner & a good visit. Got home about 6:30. Dean went hunting with Art W. & got 2 squirrels.

Dandy day. I washed & ironed. Mon went down too Bill L's. in A.M. early & then they started mowing hay in A.M. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Dandy day. Mon & I went too Mabel in A.M. with a grist. I mailed Arthur's Xmas box. Dean got a jag of corn. He mowed hay in P.M. Mon churned & did odd jobs. Dean went too B.O. in eve. Got a letter from Ruth today.

Dandy day. They raked hay & bro't in 2 loads too put in the barn. Marion, Marie & Marjorie were here in P.M. Claude's, Dell's & Mama went too Iowa City today too spend a few days. Marie came home today too spend a few days. Marjorie is sure nice.

Dandy nice day. O'Dean Leonhart cut corn for us today. We finished filling the barn with hay today.

Dandy day. The men got a jag of corn in A.M. & shocked corn in P.M. We went up town in eve a little while.

Dandy day. The men shocked corn in A.M. Marion was here for dinner & we all went too Decorah in P.M. Dean got a hair cut. Marion came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Got home about 12:30. Got a letter from Isa today. Paul Snyder came up today too spend the week end.

Not very nice in A.M. Cloudy misty & damp but cleared off in P.M. & was nice. The men finished shocking corn in A.M. We went up too Mama's for dinner. Claudes & Marie & Paul & Marjorie were there too. Had a good dinner & a big time. Had lots of fun with Marjorie.

Dandy day. I washed & ironed. Dean mowed hay in A.M. & they picked up corn after the binder.

Not so nice. Sun shone some in A.M. but started raining & rained quite hard at times off & on all the rest of the day & nite. Dean chopped wood in A.M. We went up town in P.M. I went up too Mama's. Stopped at Mary Porters & got my sweater that she had knitted. It is sure nice. Caught the rest of the young roosters tonite.

Not very nice day. Rainy & damp & dark. We went too Decorah in A.M. Took the chickens down. Took 67 & they weighed 188 lbs. @ .21 bro't $39.48. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 5.

Not such a nice day. The men got corn. Snowed a few flakes.

Not too bad a day & not too good. The men got corn. I husked the pop corn in P.M. & we gathered the cabbage. Had a few snow flakes today.

Cold day. Sun shone some but not all day. Mon & Dean took me too B.O. about 11 & then they went too Decorah. I went too Mabel Kimbers Sale with Albert E. from B.O. The Joan of Arc served lunch. Not such a big crowd there. Went up too mama's a while after the Sale & then Mon & Dean came up there after me. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her back in eve. Mon & I came home about 11 & Dean came later.

Nice day. Dean went hunting with Clyde. Mon & I went down on Silver Creek fishing in P.M. Got 15. Mon went over too Marion's awhile in A.M. It froze hard tonite.

Nice day. I washed & ironed. The men got corn in A.M. & raked & bunched hay in P.M. Froze some tonite.

Quite a nice day but pretty windy. The men hauled hay up too the house & stacked it today. Dean went too B.O. in eve.

Quite nice in A.M. until about noon it clouded up & rained quite hard. Rained off & on all P.M. & sometimes quite hard. They finished the hay in A.M. We went up town in P.M. I went up too the school house at B.O. & got our new Ration Books no. 4. Got a letter from Isa today.

Thurs. Oct. 21
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon took me up too Merle's about 10:30 & I went too Edith Perry's Sale with them. The L.A.S. served the lunch. Served a lot of food too. Genevra & I took in the money. Mon came back up too Merle's after me. Got home about 6. The men picked corn.

Quite a nice day. The men stacked soy beans. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Nice day. The men stacked soy beans in A.M. & we went too Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed & Mon got a hair cut. Walt McCauley rode home from Decorah with us & came on home too supper with us. He went up town with us in eve. We came home about 12. Had a letter from Arthur today.

Not a very nice day. Dark & cool. Dean went hunting with Clyde. Mon took me too Church in A.M. Rev. Goodrick was gone so Mrs. Krumm talked. She was good too. Went up too mama's a minute. Ed Knoke was here a few minutes about supper time.

Dandy nice day. We got up early & Mon helped Dean with the milking & then he & I left for Rochester at 8 A.M. We got up there at 10 & waited at the Clinic until 12 too register. Couldn't get in too see a doctor until Wed. P.M. so we had dinner, run around town awhile & then started for home about 2. Got home at 4. Dean went over too Ed Knoke's too a coon supper.

Tues. Oct. 26
Dandy day. I washed & ironed & the men stacked beans.

Wed. Oct. 27
Dandy day. The men finished stacking the beans in A.M. & Mon & I left for Rochester about 11. Got up there about 1 had dinner & then went too see Inez Whitney at the Colonial Hospital & then on too the Clinic. Waited most of P.M. & didn't see any Dr. Went over & found a place too stay & then went out too supper. Went too a Show in eve. Red Skelton in "I Dood It". It was sure funny. Went back too our rooming house about 9 & went too bed. We stayed at the Franklin House. About 2 blocks north of the Clinic.

Thurs. Oct. 28
Dandy day. Got up & went down town & got breakfast & then too the Clinic about 8:30 & saw Dr. Fair in just a few minutes then had an XRay picture of my chest & a blood test then out for the rest of the day. Walked around town awhile in P.M. & then went too see Inez again. Went back too the rooming house & sat around until supper time. Had supper there & then went too a couple of shows. "Gildersleeves Bad Day". Sure was funny & "The Powers Girl". It wasn't too good & not too bad. Got back too the rooming house about 11 & we were locked out & had too get them up too let us in. Bought a new black dress & new every day shoes today.

Fri. Oct. 29
Dandy nice day. Got up early & couldn't have any breakfast. Went too the Clinic about 7:30 & had another blood test. Went & had breakfast & then walked around awhile & then back too our rooming house & waited for dinner. Walked around a little while & then too the Clinic & waited until about 3:45 & then saw Dr. Gaarde for exams & then on too the desk for my dismissal with an O.K. We went right too the rooming house & then for home. Got home in time for supper & then Dean & I went up too the school house too their program. It was sure good & a big crowd. Had a good lunch too. Got home about 11. Got a letter from Arthur & a card from Ruth.

Nice day but cooler. Clouded up in P.M. & rained & in eve & darned hard at times. We went & got Marion & then mama & went too Decorah. Dean got a hair cut. Mama & Marion came home too supper with us & we went up town in eve. Had too wait for Marion so we didn't get home until about 1. Got 3 letters from Arthur. In one of them was a "handkie" for me from Tunis.

Not very nice day. Dark, damp & cold. Dean went over too Howard's in A.M. & then hunting in P.M. but didn't get anything.

Mon. Nov. 1
Not very nice day. Mon & Dean went too Prosper & Mabel in A.M. & Dean had some dental work done. They picked corn in P.M. We got a letter from Arthur saying that he was in Italy. Had a card from Ruth too.

Tues. Nov. 2
Not very nice day. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & then they went too Prosper & back here for dinner. Marion bought 92 of the old hens & we got them gathered up & hauled over too his place. He was here too supper with us & then went up town with us in eve. I took the rest of the old hens up town & sold them. 24 hens & a rooster. They weighed 85 lbs. @ .17 bro't $14.45. Dean picked a load of corn in A.M. & one in P.M. They started tearing out the inside of the hen house after they got the chickens out & Dean hauled out some manure.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Marion was over all day & they worked at the chicken house getting it ready for the cement floor. Mon took Marion home after supper.

Thurs. Nov. 4
Not such a nice day. Rather dark. The men got Ed Arnold's mixer & he came too & Marion came over & they put the cement floor in the hen house in A.M. Had dinner here & they all went over too Marion's & put in the floor in his hen house.

Fri. Nov. 5
Not such a nice day. Dean picked corn in A.M. Marion came over in A.M. & he & Mon started fixing too put in a cement step at the north door. They got the rock all fixed in A.M. & then Dean helped them & they got the cement in in P.M. Marion stayed for supper & Mon took him home then. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Had a letter from Arthur today.

Sat. Nov. 6
Snowed most of the day & late in P.M. quite hard so we had 3 or 4 in. of snow. Not cold. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Mrs. K. went down with us. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 5:30. Nasty getting around. Didn't go up town in eve. Kept the cows in tonite for the first time. Got a letter from Arthur today.

Not very nice day. Not cold but damp & dark. Dean was over too Howard's awhile in A.M. Snowed hard again in the nite.

Mon. Nov. 8
Snowed off & on all day. Not hard though. Wind got around into the north late in P.M. & it got quite a lot colder & the wind started blowing. Blew hard in the nite. The men filled in the cellar way & did odd jobs. Howard was over in A.M. & Verna & Darlene late in P.M.

Tues. Nov. 9
20º above this morn. Not such a nice day. We sold the old sows. Leonard Dow hauled them about noon. Took them too Decorah. Mon, Dean & I went down too. Didn't stay too long down there. Went too B.O. in eve. I went up too mama's & she was at Aunt Alice's so I went up there awhile & then went home with mama for a while. Howard, Clyde & Allen rode up town with us but didn't come back with us. The 13 sows weighed 4480 lbs. @ $13 per cwt. & bro't $582.36.

Wed. Nov. 10
Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice. Thawed some in P.M. Dean helped Roy get some cattle of his that were at Whalen's & get them loaded into a truck & then helped him load some over at Roys. He got home about 11. Mon went over too Marion's in A.M. & then he & Dean went over there in P.M. & got our calves that were there. They got a jag of corn after they got home.

Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. I washed & ironed. The men picked corn. Dean went over too Howard's in eve. Mon helped Roy saw wood in P.M.

Quite a nice day but quite windy. The men picked corn in A.M. & then Dean went out and finished up the 3 rows after dinner & Mon did odd jobs around here. That finished the east field. They went down in the north field & got a jag of corn after Dean got in from the east.

Dandy nice day. The men husked all day. We went too B.O. in eve. Quite a cold nite. Got a letter from Arthur & also a couple of hankies. The letter came in a week.

Not very nice day. Rather cold & windy & dark. Dean husked corn. Mon put on storm windows & paper on the south kitchen door & put banking around the house. Cold nite.

Zero this morn. Cold in early A.M. but bright & nice & warmed up & was a dandy day. I washed & ironed. Mon went too B.O. & Prosper in A.M. & worked at the hen house in P.M. Dean husked all day.

Nice day. Dean was in the corn field all day. Mon worked at the hen house in A.M. & we went too Decorah in P.M. Mama met us at the 4 corners & went along. I got a permanent & it took a long while so we didn't leave Decorah until 7. Mon got a hair cut. Mama came home too supper with us & then we took her home in eve. Howard & Allen rode home from B.O. with us.

Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Dean worked at the corn & Mon at the hen house. He took Bernice & I too B.O. about 10:30 too the L.A.S. Sale & Dinner & came after us about 5. Large crowd out too the Sale & they had a dandy dinner. Took in over $240. A lot of the snow went today.

Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a lot. More snow went today. Dean husked corn all day. Mon finished the hen house in A.M. & helped Dean in P.M.

Quite a nice day. The men husked in A.M. & we went too Decorah in P.M. Mama & Allen went along. Mama came home too supper with us & we took her home in eve. Dean & Clyde went too Decorah in eve too the Show so Dean didn't come home from town with us. We got home about 11:30.

Not such a nice day. Sprinkled some in P.M. & eve. Dean didn't feel very well. I helped Mon pick a load of corn in A.M. & then we went up too Mama's for dinner. Claude's, Dells & Howard McCabe were there also Uncle Geo. & Wes. Had a dandy dinner. Had a couple of our ducks. Dean Smith & Lillian Haugland were married today.

Dandy nice day. Clyde, Howard & Allen came down & helped Mon & Dean husk corn today. They got thro' about 4 P.M. so we are done husking. Mon took me too B.O. at noon & I went too Club at Catherine Hedgvedt's in P.M. Not many out but we had a dandy good time & a good lunch. Mon came back up after me about 5. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We got 2 letters from Arthur today. Got a letter from Ruth too.

Dandy day. We went too Decorah about 11:30. Large crowd in town. Got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. Dean came home later than we did. We got home about 11:30.

Nice day. Had a slight operation this morn at 8. Didn't come out from under the anesthetic really until about 9 P.M. Mon came down in time for the operation & was with me until in P.M. Jessie Walter was in too see me a minute in P.M. Got 2 letters from Arthur.

Nice day. Mon, Dean, Mama & Addie Q. came down too see me. Fred & Jessie W. & Lenna F. were in too see me in eve. Got a letter from Arthur with his picture in it. It was good. Got a letter from Isa too.

Not such a nice day. Cloudy & cool. Mon & Dean came down after me about noon. We came home about 2. Howard was over a little while after we got home & they were all over in eve. Got a nice boquet from the L.A.S. this A.M. Got a letter from Arthur today & he sent another picture. It was good.

Nice day. Mon went up & got Mama in A.M. & she came down & cleaned up the house some. They took her home after chores. Dean & Mon did odd jobs around here in A.M. & then Mon helped Fred W. thresh beans in P.M. & Dean hauled up wood. We had a letter from Arthur today.

Rather cloudy most of the day but the sun shone some too. The men chopped wood & split logs all day. Got mail from the Hospital that was sent on from Ern & Zoa, Florence E., Ruthie Casterton & Leah & Geo. B. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Nice day but cool. We went too Decorah about 12. Mama walked down too the 4 corners & went with us. I went too see Dr. & he said I was coming O.K. Jim Matthew's rode home with us too. We took him & mama right on too B.O. Got a letter from Ruth & card from Iona Inez & Miriam. Dean went too B.O. in eve.

Nice day. I washed & Mon hung out the clothes. Ironed in P.M. Dean hauled in corn fodder all day. Mon cleaned out the tank & put in the tank heater in A.M. & then he helped Dean in P.M. I got a card from Ruth, Anna Snell & Rev. & Mrs. Goodrick & Genev S.

Not such a bad day. Rather windy. Mon & Dean hauled in corn fodder all day. We went up town awhile in eve. I went up too mama's awhile. Howard & Allen rode home with us. We got a cablegram from Arthur today, wishing us a Merry Xmas & Happy New Year.

Sun shone most of the day but it was windy & cold. The men finished hauling in the fodder in A.M. & hauled up wood in P.M. We put 154 pullets in the hen house tonite. Got 3 pullet eggs today our first eggs. Got a card from Grace Pierce today. Dean got his classification card today. 2.C.

Not such a bad day but cool & windy. We went too Decorah about 11:30 Ludvig rode down & back with us. I got my hair fixed & Mon & Dean each got a hair cut. Got home about 5:30. We went up town in eve. Not many in town. Got home about 11:30. Howard Q. rode home with us. Got a Xmas card from [Al?] & Bertha Larson & the girls. Got colder in the nite.

12º below. Mighty cold day. The sun shone too but the wind blew some & it was sure cold. Mon went over & got Marion just before dinner & we had dinner & then Dean went over too Howard's & helped saw wood & Mon Marion & I went too Decorah. Didn't stay long down there. Cold nite.

Not quite so cold. Warmed up in P.M. Sun shone nice all day. Raymond Halse sawed wood for us in A.M. Harry Q., Roy H., & Howard helped. Harry & Raymond stayed for dinner. Colder tonite. We had a letter from Arthur.

Windy cold day but the sun shone. Dean went over too Howard's. Mon took me too B.O. after dinner too Chas. Porter's funeral. Mrs. Goodrick, Carol Reed & I sang. "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" & "Rock of Ages". Marion & Charlie Wilbur rode home from B.O. with us.

Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went over too Johnnie Carolan's in A.M. & bought some corn. He & Dean went down to Richard B's in P.M. but he wasn't at home so Mon & I went down there right after supper & saw him about hauling the corn.

Cold day. Richard came up to Johnnie's in A.M. & the men went over there & they hauled 2 loads of corn. Richard was here for dinner then. Got some Xmas cards today.

Wed. Dec. 22
15 below. Cold, windy day. Mon & I went too Decorah about 11:30. I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. Dean & Howard went & got Xmas trees in P.M. & Dean had ours set up & nearly trimmed when we got home. Got a letter from Arthur today & such a good picture. Got some Xmas cards.

12 below. Nice day but cold but it warmed up some too. Mon went over & got Ruth in A.M. & we made Xmas candy all day. Dean went too B.O. in P.M. & Mon went over too Marion's awhile. Mon & I took Ruth home about 10 P.M. Got some Xmas cards today.

Fri. Dec. 24
Not such a bad day. Dean went over too Howards in A.M. Mon went up & helped Fritz's set up a new stove & put down some new linoleum in P.M. Took them all P.M. We went up town in eve. I went too the Xmas program at the M.E. Church. Stayed up town awhile afterward. Got home about 11. Dean went too Calmar with Clyde too meet the Knoke girls. We got a card & note from Geo & Cecilia today.

Sat. Dec. 25
Beautiful day. Not cold & the sun shone so nice. Dean went over too Howard's a few minutes in P.M. He & Clyde went over too Knoke's in P.M. for supper & the eve.

Sun. Dec. 26
Dandy nice day. Mon walked over too Marions in P.M. Dean went up too Ludvig's in P.M. & then on over too Knoke's & was there for supper & went with Ed too take the girls back too Calmar.

Mon. Dec. 27
Rather foggy & cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off later & wasn't bad. Got quite a little colder in P.M. & the wind blew quite hard. Howard came over about 12:30 & they butchered a small pig. Mon went over too Marion's a little while in P.M. & then we all went over in eve & helped him get his hens in the hen house. We got 2 letters from Arthur today & a letter from Isa.

Tues. Dec. 28
Dandy nice day. We got up early & got the chores done & went too Decorah about 9:30. Took Marion down. He was supposed too be there at 10 on some business about Charlie Porter's will. Mama went along too Decorah with us to. Came home about 5.

Wed. Dec. 29
Quite a nice day. I washed. Johnnie Carolan was here for dinner & then Dean went & helped him drive his mules home in P.M. They had wandered away from home. Mon & I cut up half the hog in P.M. We went over too Roy's in eve. Clyde & Stella were there too. We got home about 1.

Thurs. Dec. 30
Dandy nice day. Mon & I cut up part of the pig in P.M. & I ironed. Dean went over too Howard's in eve.

Fri. Dec. 31
Dandy nice day. Dean helped Ludvigs saw wood in A.M. Mon took me too Club at Maude J's in P.M. Not many out. Had election of officers. Margaret Ward Pres. Anita B. V.P. Miriam W. Sec. Myself Treas. Had a dandy lunch & a good time. I rode back up town with Miriam & then Mon & I came on home. We went up town in eve. Mart L. rode up with us. Mon & I came home a little after 11 & Dean came later. Clyde Q. & Marion W. came home with him.
