Wed. Jan. 1
Not very nice day. Not cold. Rained all day. Sometimes real hard. We went down to Claude's & spent the day. Mama & Lester's were there too. Had a grand dinner & a good time. Arlin F. was here awhile after we got home. Got colder in the nite.

Thurs. Jan. 2
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day, but the wind blew so hard. Mon & the boys went over to Marion's in P.M. & cut wood. Gladys & Alice were here a little while in eve.

Fri. Jan. 3
Sun shone off & on & kind of a blizzard at times too. Cold & windy. The boys were over at Marion's today. They came home for dinner & Marion with them. Mon & I took them back after dinner, then he took me to Club at Elsie's. Quite a crowd out. Had a dandy lunch. We went & got the boys on our way home. They finished over there today. Mighty cold nite. So windy.

Sat. Jan. 4
10º below this morn. Cold, windy day. Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah about noon. Walter W. went with us. We went to B.O. on our way home & got home about 4. Got a new radio battery. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sun. Jan. 5
10º below this morn. Not such a nice day but the wind didn't blow quite so hard. Mon & I went up to mama's. Dean went hunting. Dean made ice cream late in P.M. & Loretta & Arthur came over & spent the eve.

Mon. Jan. 6
Not very nice day but not so cold. Snowed off & on all day. I washed. The men didn't do much of anything.

Tues. Jan. 7
Not very nice day. Arthur & Mon went over to Marion's & hauled up wood. I ironed most of the P.M. We went up town in eve. Arthur & I went up to Ern & Zoa's awhile. I got what M.E.L.A.S. Sec. books & papers she had.

Wed. Jan. 8
Not very nice day. Mon & Arthur went over to Marion's & finished hauling up his wood. Rained or sleeted in the nite. Harry Little died very suddenly at Rochester this A.M.

Thurs. Jan. 9
Not so nice in A.M. but got brighter about noon. Rather cold. Mon, Dean & I went up town about 11:30 A.M. I went to L.A.S. at the church basement. Minnie Van Vleit & Phoebe Glice entertained. Quite a large crowd out. Dean got a hair cut. He went to Decorah in P.M. with Wimpie & didn't get home until in eve. Mon, Arthur, Fritz & I went to B.O. in eve. The men went to Lodge & I went up to mama's. Isa & Loyal were there awhile too. Velda & Gordon Kess came up there about 10 too see if I would sing for Harry's funeral. We got home about 11.

Fri. Jan. 10
Bright day but rather cold & windy. Mon, Arthur & I went over to Jim Allen's in A.M. too look at a hog & then up to Ern Foltz's & bought him $20.00 from there on to town & over to Isa's a minute & then home. Got home & had dinner & then the men went over to Marion's & sawed wood in P.M. Mon & I went up town in eve. I went up to Clate Reed's too practice.

Sat. Jan. 11
Nice bright day but a cold wind. We went over to Marion's about 11:30 & got Marion & then they took me up to mama's & the men went on to Decorah. Mama & I went to Harry L's. funeral in P.M. at the A.C. church. Arthur, Louie K., Olive & I sang "Old Rugged Cross" & "The Pearly White City". Velda sang "Abide With Me". Very large crowd out. Not nearly enough room in the church. Mon got our bacon & hams today. We didn't go up town in eve. Ern F. & Keith delivered the hog, Mon bought of them this A.M.

Sun. Jan. 12
Dandy nice day. Dean went hunting. Arthur went visiting in eve. Roscoe & Clifford D. were up & spent the eve.

Mon. Jan. 13
Not very nice day. Dark & cloudy. Marion came over in A.M. & helped the men cut wood. Mon took him home late in P.M.

Tues. Jan. 14
Not very nice day. I washed & ironed some. Mon & Arthur hauled up wood all day & Dean cut wood. Mon, Dean & I went up town awhile in eve. Caught up with the Quandahl boys walking too town & the rode on up with us. Howard, Allan & Ludwig rode home with us. It was snowing some when we came home but it turned into rain in the nite.

Wed. Jan. 15
Not very nice day. Sleeted & rained some in A.M. early. Everything coated with ice. Nice & slippery. I finished the ironing in P.M.

Thurs. Jan. 16
Not very nice day. Dark & damp. Nice & slippery. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in P.M.

Fri. Jan. 17
Not very nice day. Sun shone some but regular blizzard at times. Didn't snow so much tho' either. An all day Club meeting for all the family at Dorothy Rolfe's today but Mon was afraid the road would drift full so we didn't go. Dave was over awhile in A.M.

Sat. Jan. 18
10º below this A.M. Nice bright day but quite cold. Some wind too. We went to Decorah about 11 A.M. Roads mighty slippery. I got my hair fixed. Mon got his hair cut. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve to a dance at the Hall. Had quite a time getting there. Came very near not getting out of the yard & then nearly went off the grade over the other side of Harry Q's. Gene McCabe & Walt Donlan put on the dance. Mon sold tickets. Not such a large crowd out. Leonard Gossman, Roy Halvorson & a girl at the piano was the music. It was good. Ida, Clyde & Howard rode home with us. We got home about 1:30. Mighty cold & slippery. Little son born to Dorothy & Harold Seelye & a daughter to Mr. & Mrs. Ole Stockman at the Decorah Hospital early this A.M. Mon got the Conservation check today.

Sun. Jan. 19
Cold day again. Didn't do too much. Dean went over to Howard's in A.M. & then went visiting on his skates in P.M. Arthur went walking all over the country.

Mon. Jan. 20
Another dark, cold day. Didn't do too much. Dean skated over to Marion's in P.M. Howard was here awhile in A.M.

Tues. Jan. 21
Not very nice day. Didn't do too much. Snowed in the nite & drifted.

Wed. Jan. 22
Not very nice day. Drifted all day. Rather cold. Mon & the boys went to B.O. in P.M. & Arthur went over to Mabel & had some feed ground. Dean went to Decorah with Leonard B. & didn't get home until just as Mon & Arthur finished chores. The men went up town in eve. We got a letter from Warren today.

Thurs. Jan. 23
Dandy nice day but cold. Arthur went over to Marion's a few minutes in A.M. Raymond Halse sawed wood for us in P.M. Howard & Arthur W. & Glen Abrahamson helped. The M.E.L.A.S. had their Oyster Dinner today but I had too bad a cold to go even if we wouldn't have sawed wood.

Fri. Jan. 24
Mon's 46th Birthday. Quite a nice day. Sun didn't shine too much though. I washed & ironed some. The boys cleaned out the calf pen in P.M. & hauled in some straw. Mon went to B.O. awhile in P.M. Had another little calf tonite.

Sat. Jan. 25
Not such a bad day but still no sunshine & a little raw & cold. We went over & got Marion about 11 & went to Decorah. Very large crowd in town. Arthur got his hair cut. We went up town in eve. The boys & I went up to mama's awhile. Went to the dance at the Hall. Had a good time. Roy Halvorson, Miss Tillinghast & Leonard G. played. Music good. We got home about 2. Howard & Clyde rode up with us & Howard rode home with us. It started to snow about 6 P.M. & kept it up all nite. Wind started to blow in the nite & drifted some. Mart Leonhart was here awhile in A.M. early.

Sun. Jan. 26
Regular blizzard early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite a nice day although it drifted some all day. Not cold. Dean was over to Howard's awhile in A.M. Arlin F. was here awhile in P.M.

Mon. Jan. 27
Not such a nice day, but not too bad. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & they went to Prosper. Mon didn't get home until about 4 P.M. The boys hauled manure in P.M. Dean went over to Howards in eve & Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah in eve to the show. Jack Benny & Fred Allen in "Love Thy Neighbor". It wasn't too bad & but not too good. We got a letter from Cecilia today.

Tues. Jan. 28
Dandy nice day. Mon & I went to B.O. about 10 A.M. & took Claude, Olive & Marion to Preston. We got back home about 4 P.M.

Wed. Jan. 29
Not such a nice day. Snow drifted quite a little sometimes a regular blizzard. Mon, Arthur & I went to Mabel in P.M. I stopped at mama's a little while on our way home. Dean helped Harry saw wood for Louie K. Lester's came down for supper. We had oysters. Wimpie came just after we had supper. Arthur, Dean & Wimpie went down to Roscoe's after they finished chores. They had an oyster supper down there. Lester's went home about 9:30.

Thurs. Jan. 30
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed. A couple of men were down from Mabel in P.M. & sold Mon an electric separator.

Fri. Jan. 31
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot again today. Did a lot of odd jobs so did the men. We listened to the Joe Louis – Red Bierman fight in the eve. Joe won in the 5th round with a knockout.

Sat. Feb. 1
Nice & bright in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & got colder, although it thawed all day. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah about 10:30 A.M. Large crowd in town, I got my hair fixed. Went to B.O. a minute on our way home. Walt W. rode home from Decorah with us. Dean went up to Ludwig's in eve & then on up town awhile.

Sun. Feb. 2
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up again in P.M. Thawed quite a little. Arthur W. was here awhile in him. Dean got 3 rabbits. Earl & Floyd Wernett & one of the Matthews boys were here awhile in P.M. Howard, Charlotte & Jerome were down for supper & spent the eve. Uncle Ambrose died tonite.

Mon. Feb. 3
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. The boys started cutting cord wood this A.M. Mon had too go to B.O. to a township trustee meeting in P.M.

Tues. Feb. 4
Not such a nice day but not too bad. The men just went up to cut wood this A.M. when the men from Mabel came with the new separator. It sure is quite a machine. Doesn't look much like a separator. An "Iowa Diary". Our old machine & $85. $30 for the old machine. Raymond Young was here awhile in A.M. Mon & I took mama to Decorah in P.M. We stopped at Uncle Ambrose's a few minutes & then went on down to the funeral home & saw him. He looks so nice. Addie is sick in bed. We got home about 5. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. The boys cut wood in P.M. Mama got me a new dress today for my birthday.

Wed. Feb. 5
Not such a bad day. The men cut wood in A.M. Louie K. was here awhile in P.M. & then the men hauled up some corn fodder.

Thurs. Feb. 6
Sun shone but quite windy & chilly. Mon & the boys went over to Marion's in A.M. & then he came home with them. All but Arthur went to B.O. about 11:30. I went to M.E.L.A.S. at the basement. Large crowd out & a swell dinner. Marion & Mon were up there for dinner. Uncle Ambrose's funeral was at the M.E. church in P.M. at 2:30. Quite a crowd out. Lizzie Cassel rode home from town with us. Dean got a hair cut. Started to snow some in eve & kept it up all nite I guess. Wind blew quite hard & it was quite a little colder.

Fri. Feb. 7
Not very nice day. Regular blizzard at times. Cold too. Didn't do too much.

Sat. Feb. 8
My 49th Birthday. Regular blizzard early in A.M. but cleared up later in the day & was quite nice but cold. Marion came over about 10:30 & went to Decorah with us. Large crowd in town. The men folks gave me the money too get a new dress, so I got a nice black one. They were not very well satisfied. We went up town in eve. The boys & I went up to mama's awhile. Got home about 12. Cold nite.

Sun. Feb. 9
Grand day. Nice & warm. Thawed a lot. Mon went up & got mama in A.M. Claude's came over & spent the day. We had a good time.

Mon. Feb. 10
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. I washed & ironed. The boys took a couple of little runts of pigs over to Marion in A.M. Mon helped me wash. The men got corn fodder in P.M. & after that they cleaned the hen house. Beautiful nite.

Tues. Feb. 11
Quite a nice day only the sun didn't shine so much. Thawed quite a bit though. The men worked in the woods. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Feb. 12
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Not cold. Started to rain about 9 P.M. & kept it up the rest of the nite but not hard. Dean helped Fred W. saw wood. He got home about 1:30. Mon, Dean & I went to a shower at Breezy Hill, in eve for Mr. & Mrs. Darwin Christopher. They were married this A.M. Very large crowd out. They got many nice presents. We got home about 12. Dean came home with Charles W. Nasty nite to drive.

Thurs. Feb. 13
Not very nice day. Rainy in A.M. Began to get colder about 4 P.M. & got much colder. Froze up again. The wind blew quite hard. Lloyd K. came down in A.M. & bought a load of hogs. The truck came for them about 2 P.M. We all went to Prosper & then on to Mabel. I went too see Dr. Nass. 25 hogs weighed 5420 lbs. @ $7.45 per cwt. & bro't $403.79. 1 hog got its leg broke & Lloyd gave Mon $12.00 for her. trucking $1.75 240 @ $5.00

Fri. Feb. 14
Nice bright day. Not too cold. The boys cut wood. Mon took me to B.O. & then I went from there too club at Ella Reed's with Dorothea R. Not so many out. Had a dandy lunch. Arthur went over & got Marion after we got home & he was here for supper & went up town with us. We went to the I.O.O.F. Dance at the Hall. Good crowd out. Had a good time but not such good music. Glen Kenynon's Orchestra. We got home about 1.

Sat. Feb. 15
Nice bright day but cool. We left home about 11. Went to Mabel & then on to Decorah. Got my hair fixed. Quite a crowd in town. We got home about 4. Ludwig rode down with us. Roscoe D. was up & spent the eve.

Sun. Feb. 16
Snowed early in A.M. & then the wind came up & it was a regular blizzard part of the day. Wind went down again in P.M. Not cold. Didn't do much of anything. Dean went over to Howard's awhile in A.M.

Mon. Feb. 17
Regular blizzard but not cold. Didn't do much of anything. Howard was here awhile late in P.M. Got colder in the nite. Clarence Wilbur hung himself this P.M.

Tues. Feb. 18
23º below this morn. Another not very nice day but the snow didn't blow so much. Much colder. Mon & the boys went to B.O. awhile in P.M. Ralph Kneeskern had trouble with his car & was here a couple of hrs. in P.M. waiting for some one too come & help him out. Howard was here awhile in P.M. too. Dean was over to Howards in eve. Pretty cold nite.

Wed. Feb. 19
25º below this morn. Cold, windy day but the sun shone all the time. Mon & I went too Mabel in P.M. I went over too see Dr. N. Mon took some oats over & had them ground. Cold nite.

Thurs. Feb. 20
20º below this morn. Nice cold day. Didn't do much of anything. The men hauled up some corn stalks in P.M.

Fri. Feb. 21
Not quite so cold today. Nice & bright. I washed & ironed. The men did odd jobs. Mon went over to Marion's late in P.M.

Sat. Feb. 22
Nice bright day but rather windy & cool. We went to Decorah about 10:30. Got home about 4. We went up town in eve. Howard was over awhile in A.M. Jack Whalen moved on the Berry place today. Willard Chase had bought a place south of Decorah & moved down there about Xmas time.

Sun. Feb. 23
Dandy nice day. Much warmer. Thawed quite a lot. Lester's were down & spent the day. Claude, Olive, Wimpie & Marvin were here in P.M. Arlin & Maxine came about 3 P.M. & stayed until about 8:30 & then Arthur went to Harmony with them to the Show. Howard & Arthur were here awhile in A.M. too. Dean went hunting with Arthur, awhile.

Mon. Feb. 24
Not such a nice day. Snowed some in A.M. Not cold in A.M. but got much colder in P.M. & the wind blew quite hard. Arthur helped Arlin haul hay all day from the old Berry place to Gene McCabe's place which Arlin has bought. Mon bought 50 bu. of corn from Red & Ray Halse hauled it for him in A.M. They went back up with the truck in P.M. & got a hay rake which Mon had bought from Red.

Tues. Feb. 25
Dandy nice day. Mon went to Marion's early in A.M. & then on to B.O. & was up there all day. He got home about 5. Howard was here awhile late in P.M. We went up to Red's in eve to a farewell party. Quite a few there & had a dandy good time. Danced. Got home about 2:30.

Wed. Feb. 26
Quite a nice day. Thawed some. Arlin was here awhile in A.M. We went down & got Kate Leonhart about 11:30 & went to B.O. She & I went to Lutheran L.A.S. at the church. Audry, Irene Foss & Mrs. Roy Brown entertained. Large crowd out. They had a swell dinner. Lizzie & Bernice rode home with us. Arthur hauled hay for Will Leonhart with Arlin's truck in P.M. Ruth & Francis were here when we got home & they stayed an hour or more. Arthur got home about 5. He kept the truck here tonite.

Thurs. Feb. 27
Not very nice day. Arthur took the truck up town about 10 A.M. too put a new cab on it. Mon, Dean & I went up town in P.M. I went up home. Arthur came home with us.

Fri. Feb. 28
Dandy nice day. I washed in A.M. Pauline came up at noon & then we all went to B.O. Mon took Gladys, Pauline & I to Club at Fern's. Quite a crowd out & we had a swell lunch. We rode back to B.O. with Florence E. Arthur helped finish putting the cab on the truck. They finished about 4:30 & then he went home with Arlin & Arlin & Maxine bro't him back in eve. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. to the I.O.O.F. dance in eve. Had a good time. Got home about 2.

Sat. Mar. 1
Quite a nice day but cooler. We went over & got Marion about 11 A.M. & went to Decorah. Arthur stopped off in B.O. & helped Arlin the rest of the day. Big crowd in Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Marion rode home with Happy. Wellington Foltz moved up on Red's place today. Red's haven't gone yet.

Sun. Mar. 2
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Started to rain about 5 & kept it up most of the nite I guess. Arthur helped Arlin move Vernie McIntire over on his place (the Gene McCabe place) today. He got home about 7. Mon, Dean & I went up to mamas & spent the day. Claude's & Lester's were there too. Had a good time.

Mon. Mar. 3
Regular blizzard. Mighty windy. Let up some though late in P.M. Not too cold. Didn't do much of anything.

Tues. Mar. 4
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Mon took Arthur over to Walt Rehwinkel's early in A.M. Walt hurt his back yesterday so Arthur went on the cream route for him. Mon went to Decorah in P.M. to a meeting of with the supervisors. Arthur came home with him.

Wed. Mar. 5
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arlin came after Arthur in A.M. to help him haul hay. They got back here in time for supper. Mon & Dean hauled up some corn in P.M. Howard was here in A.M. & Dean went over there in eve. We had another little calf this A.M.

Thurs. Mar. 6
Not so nice early in A.M. but brightened up & was a dandy day. Thawed a lot. Mon took Arthur over to Walt's early in A.M. too go on the cream route. Mon & Dean cleaned out the calf pen in A.M. We went up town about noon. I went to M.E.L.A.S. at the basement. Grace P., Anita, Luella & Iona entertained. Large crowd out. Had a dandy dinner. Mon took me to Mabel to the Dr. in P.M. Margaret & Fish Ward went along. She is doctoring over there too. Arthur came home from Walt's with us. Mighty sloppy roads. Isadore went to Iowa City this P.M. for an operation.

Fri. Mar. 7
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Arthur drove the car over to Walt's today & then he hauled cream. Mon & Dean hauled up hay & corn fodder.

Sat. Mar. 8
Cloudy in A.M. but was very nice in P.M. We went to Decorah about 11 A.M. Went over after Marion but he wasn't there. Large crowd in town. Was with Ruth all P.M. Mon Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. I went up to mama's awhile. Mon & I got home about 11. Dean rode home with Jessie D. Arthur went to Decorah with Arlin & Maxine to the show. "Happy" took his dad to Iowa City this morning, to the Hospital.

Sun. Mar. 9
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Arlin came early in A.M. & Mon & Arthur went over to his place, over west, with him. They didn't get back until about 1. Arlin stayed here then until about 5. Wimpie came over with the tractor in A.M. & Dean went with him too get his truck, which had been broken down for some time, over by Dawley's old house. They hauled it as far as Wilhelm's. They got back here about 3:30 & had dinner. Started to snow about 8:30.

Mon. Mar. 10
Snowed all day. Not hard, just a nice snow. Not cold. Thawed all day. The men didn't do much in A.M. Roscoe D. came while we were eating dinner & he ate with us. Dave came just as we finished. They both rode up to school election with us. Not so many out. Dave went out as director & Joe Wilhelm went in. Roscoe got the job of putting in the wood.

Tues. Mar. 11
Not very nice day. Regular blizzard at times but not too cold. Didn't do much of anything.

Wed. Mar. 12
Dandy nice day. Mon went over to Arthur S's. about 9:30 A.M. & went to Cresco with Merle & Arthur to the R.E.A. meeting. Election of officers & other business. I went to B.O. about 10 A.M. with Mart L's. to Lutheran L.A.S. Kate, Nora Lang & Verna Falck entertained. Not such a large crowd out. Some of the roads too much drifted. I went up to mama's awhile in P.M. The boys cleaned the hen house & hauled out manure & hauled up corn & hay. Isadore had her operation this A.M. at 7.

Thurs. Mar. 13
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon & Arthur chopped wood most of the day. Dean didn't feel very good. Mon & Arthur went to B.O. in eve. Mr. Lovlien had his operation this morn at 9.

Fri. Mar. 14
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a little. Arlin came in A.M. & was here for dinner. Mon took me to B.O. in P.M. & I went to Club at Miriam's with Dorothea R. Not very good roads from the paving over but we didn't have any trouble getting there. Not very many out but we had a good time & a swell lunch. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve to the dance. Not such a big crowd out but we had a good time. Leonard Gossmans & Mr. & Mrs. Ward Wilford played. We got home about 2. It was snowing quite hard when we came home.

Sat. Mar. 15
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Sun didn't shine much. Got some colder in P.M. Marion came over in A.M. & went to Decorah with us. I got my hair fixed. Dean & Arthur went to Decorah in eve. Florence, Albert & Norris were here awhile in A.M. The wind came up about 3:30 & it got much colder.

Sun. Mar. 16
10º below this A.M. Cold, windy day. Sometimes it was a regular blizzard. Didn't do much but set around by the stove. Arlin & Maxine were here in P.M awhile.

Mon. Mar. 17
15º below this A.M. Nice bright day but cold & windy. Wind went down late in P.M. Albert E. & Norris came over about 7:30 A.M. & got Arthur & I. We went back & got Florence & Aunt Alice & went to Iowa City. Arthur drove Albert's car. We stopped at Dr. Hagen's in Decorah on our way down a minute. Left Decorah about 8:20 & got to the Hospital Cafeteria & then Florence & Aunt Alice went to the part of the Hospital where Aunt Alice was examined. Arthur & I went out to Neva's & got back at 2 & visited with Isadore & Henry L. from then until 4. Florence & Aunt Alice got up there a few minutes too. Isa & Henry are fine & they look good. We left Iowa City at 4:15. Stopped at Olwein for supper & got home about 9. They didn't do anything to Aunt Alice. The men had a school meeting here in P.M.

Tues. Mar. 18
Warmer day. Thawed some. We all went to B.O. in P.M. Arthur took mama & I to Mabel in P.M. Mama went over too see Dr. Nass too. We took some oats over & had them ground.

Wed. Mar. 19
Rather cloudy in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice. Not so cold. Thawed quite a little. The men hauled up hay & corn fodder. Dean helped Lester Bronner & Leigh Halse saw wood down in Marion's woods in P.M.

Thurs. Mar. 20
Quite nice early in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & wasn't so nice. Thawed a lot. I washed in A.M. We went to B.O. about 11:30 & I went up to M.E.L.A.S. at the basement. Lottie Manuel, Violet U. & Addie Thorson entertained. Quite a few out. Had a dandy dinner. We took our radio up to Ben Wick's & traded it in toward an electric machine. Paid $25 for the new machine. Got home about 4 & got the new radio set up right away. Howard was over in A.M.

Fri. Mar. 21
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Quite a little warmer. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. & then Marion came home to dinner with him & spent the P.M. Lloyd K. was here in A.M. too see about buying the rest of the hogs.

Sat. Mar. 22
Quite a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Sprinkled some in eve. We sold the rest of the hogs this A.M. Mon & Arthur went to Prosper with them & got back about 10:20. We got ready & went to Decorah then. Large crowd in town. We got home about 5:30. Went up town in eve. Took some eggs & milk up to mama. The boys & I went to a cowboy show in the Hall. Not such a large crowd out. We got home about 12:30. Howard, Allen & Roscoe D. rode home with us.

Not such a nice day. Rather dark & stormy looking. Not cold though. Got cold late in P.M. Didn't do much of anything. Dean went over to Howard's in A.M. & then up to Red's place too help the Blaess boys get ready for the Sale tomorrow. They were working for the bank.

Mon. Mar. 24
Nice day but colder early in A.M. Warmed up & was a nice day. Thawed quite a little. They went past here with the maintainer today. The men went up to Red's place about 11:30 to the Sale. They are selling Wellington Foltz out because he didn't pay Red's all he owed on the place. Albert bro't Florence & Aunt Alice over in P.M. & then he went up to the sale. Isadore came home from the Hospital this P.M. Neva & Aunt Eunice bro't her.

Tues. Mar. 25
Dandy nice day. Arthur helped me with the washing & I ironed in P.M. The boys hauled up a couple of jags of wood & Mon split some of it in P.M.

Dandy nice day. Mon split some wood in A.M. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in P.M. I went over to Isa's. She is coming just fine. Gordon & Velda Kess were there awhile too.

Rather damp & cool all day. Sprinkled some off & on & the wind blew quite a little. The men went over to Marie Knox's about 11:30 to her sale. Tommy has left & she had too get rid of things.

Fri. Mar. 28
Dandy nice day. The wind blew quite hard & it dried the ground up a lot. Charley & Roy W. came up in A.M. & butchered a hog.

Sat. Mar. 29
Dandy nice day. It dried up a lot today. Mon went to Decorah early in A.M. & took the meat down & had it cut up. Some in the locker & some too cure. He got back about 10 & then we got ready & all went. Went up town & got Isa & Lester. Mon took them to Calmar too see the Dr. & the boys & I stayed in Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Large crowd in town. We came home about 4. Arthur bought a car (1927 Chev.) so he & Dean & Loyal came home in that. Loyal came down here for supper. We went to B.O. in eve. Dean & I were up to mama's awhile. Loyal, Harlan, Marion & Marvin were there too. Aunt Lissa, Aunt Eunice, Neva & the baby were there too. Arthur took our car & went to Decorah so we drove his car home. Clyde & Allen rode home with us.

Arthur's 24th Birthday. Dandy nice day. Arthur went up early in A.M. & got mama. Claude's & Lester's were here today. Celebrated the two birthdays. Had a picnic dinner & a good one. Good time, too. Howard was here awhile in eve.

Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & was quite dark & rainy looking at times. Didn't rain though. Arthur worked for Louie K. today & Dean went down & helped Wimpie cut wood. Mon helped me grind up lard in A.M. & then we went & got mama & went to Mabel in P.M. Howard was here awhile in A.M.

Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Mon & Arthur went to Decorah in A.M. & spent the day. Arthur got the license changed in his car & the brakes fixed. Dean helped Wimpie again today. Raymond Young was here awhile early in A.M.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon helped "Happy" & Joe Wilhelm saw wood all day. He went for Roy H. The boys went to Bluffton in eve.

Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Sometimes rather hard. Got colder in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. about 11 A.M. I went to L.A.S. at the basement. Inez W., Myrtle Snell & Mabel Pollitt entertained. Quite a crowd out. Had a swell dinner.

Fri. Apr. 4
Rained in A.M. but cleared up in P.M. & was very nice. Rather windy. It dried up quite a little in P.M. Howard was here awhile in A.M. Cecil W. came down in A.M. & got the eggs. He is out buying eggs for Reardon's. The boys cleaned the hen house in P.M. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. & got a hair cut & shave. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve to the dance at the Hall. Quite a crowd. Had a good time. Got home about 2. Leonard G. Roy Halvorson & Miss Tillinghast played.

Dandy nice day. Dried up a lot. Marion came over in A.M. & we went to Decorah about 11. Very large crowd in town. Arthur went to Decorah in eve. Walter Rehwinkel got quite badly hurt by a bull tonite.

Real nice in A.M. early but clouded up & was cloudy all day. Arlin came for Arthur to help him early in A.M. & they got back here about 2. Then Arthur, Arlin & Maxine went down to the Hospital too see Walt. He is not hurt as bad as they thought. Dean went over to Howard's in A.M. & down to the creek in P.M.

Mon. Apr. 7
Not very nice early in A.M. Sprinkled some but cleared off & was a dandy day. Arthur went early in A.M. too haul cream for Walt. (They bro't Walt home at noon). Mon went to B.O. about 8 A.M. Trustees meeting today. He took the car over to Roy's too have the brakes fixed & it wasn't finished so he came home with Arthur at nite. Dean did odd jobs all day. Little son born to Leonard & Lavonne [Funke?] tonite.

Tues. Apr. 8
Not nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Rather windy. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon went up to the school house in A.M. They were setting out trees & shrubs up there. Dean helped Louie for awhile in P.M. cleaning grain. The men went to B.O. in eve. Mon bro't our car home.

Wed. Apr. 9
Not such a nice day but not too bad sun didn't shine much. I washed & ironed. Had quite a time of it as the power was off & on so I was quite a while washing & didn't finish all my ironing. The men finished hauling up the rest of the corn fodder & got it husked out.

Dandy nice day. Like spring. The men fixed fence in A.M. & P.M. Mon took Gladys, Dorothy S. & I to Club at Margaret W's. in P.M. Not so many out. Had a dandy good lunch.

Fri. Apr. 11
Fine day. Pretty windy. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon helped Lester Bronner saw wood awhile in A.M. & then Dean went. They finished about 4 P.M. Mon took mama & I to Mabel in P.M. Charlotte & Jerome rode along too. Little son born to Mr. & Mrs. Jessie Dawley.

Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie & Dean helped Dell Mc. saw wood in A.M. Mon & I went over & got Marion about 10 A.M. & then up & got Isadore & we went to Decorah. I got my hair fixed & Isa got hers washed. Then Mon took her to Calmar about 1 P.M. too see the Dr. We didn't get started home very early. Uncle Aaron rode to B.O. with us, also Loyal. We got home about 5:30. Did up the chores & then Mon & I went over & got Marion. We got up town about 7. I went up to the M.E. church basement to the Birthday dinner for the first half of the year. Not such a large crowd out. We got home about 11:30. The boys went to Decorah.

Sun. Apr. 13
Had quite a shower early in A.M. & again early in eve. It was real nice during the day. Quite warm. The boys went fishing early in A.M. with Roscoe D. & didn't get back until in P.M. Got pinched too for fishing without a license. Marion & Uncle Aaron walked over here about 11 A.M. & stayed for dinner. Marion walked home after dinner & Mon Uncle Aaron & I went to B.O. I went up to mama's. Uncle Aaron stayed in town. We got home about 4:30.

Quite a nice day. Rather windy in A.M. & got more so in P.M. Quite a little cooler in eve. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean helped Roy Brown saw wood in A.M. (Down in Marion's woods.) Mon & Dean did odd jobs in P.M. Mon Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. I went to the Hall to the B.O. township declamatory contest. Laverne & Virginia Quandahl won the firsts. It was all good. We got home about 10.

Tues. Apr. 15
Not so nice in A.M. Cloudy & sprinkled some. Nicer in P.M. but the wind blew hard. Roscoe D. came up early in A.M. & went to Decorah with the menfolks. The boys had to go down & settle for fishing without a license. They got home a little after 12 & Roscoe stayed for dinner. Arthur went to Louie's in P.M. & Dean hauled manure. Mon did odd jobs.

Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean hauled manure all day. Mon went over to Marions in A.M. & then up town. Dean went over to Howards in eve. Arthur went up town awhile.

Nice warm day. Looked rather rainy at times but didn't rain until about 6 P.M. Sprinkled along then for awhile & about 7 we surely got a storm. Thunder & lightning & a hard hail storm. Such large hail stones at first too. Ground was covered with hail stones. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean hauled manure. Mon took me up to Gladys' about 11:30 & I went to M.E.L.A.S. at the basement with her. Quite a crowd out. Elsie S. Ella Thayer & Mrs. James Rollins entertained.

Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice until late in P.M. we got another thunder storm. Rained quite hard. Got colder in eve. The men hauled up hay from down in the field & put it in the barn. Arthur went to Louie's in P.M. so I had the horse on the hay fork.

Mama's 70th Birthday. Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & sprinkled off & on in P.M. & eve. Rained quite hard some times. Arthur worked at Louie's until it rained too hard in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went over & got Marion about 10:30 & went to Decorah. Large crowd in town. We all went up town in eve. Marion & Clyde Q. rode up with us from Ludwigs. Dean went to Decorah with Leonard B. The Joan of Arc had a food sale at Cecil's this P.M. & eve. Not many in town. Got home about 11. Got quite a lot colder tonite.

Quite a nice day. Warmer. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. about 9:30 A.M. & got mama & went to Mabel. Dean went too see Dr. Nass about some calf itch on his arm. Got back to mama's about noon & had lunch then Mama, Isa, Mon & I went to Decorah in P.M. Mon took Isa to Calmar too see the Dr. Dean got a ride home from B.O. with Floyd B. We got home about 4. Hadn't been home only a little while when the men from Mabel bro't a refrigerator ("Fridigare) & installed it for us to try. We went up town a few minutes in eve.

Dean's 21st Birthday. Quite a nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean did a number of odd jobs. Mon went over to Louie's a few minutes just after dinner. Vernie Manning came here with the tractor about 4 P.M. to plow. He & Gilbert have a tractor together. Myrtle came after him about 6. Dean went to B.O. in eve.

Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Gilbert plowed here today. Dean started dragging about 11 A.M. Mon went to B.O. awhile in A.M. He took me up to Gladys' at noon & I went to Club at Dorothea Reid's with her. Not so many out. Had a dandy lunch.

Beautiful day. Quite warm. The boys went down to Roscoe's early in A.M. & they didn't get back until supper time. They bro't over 70 fish. Roscoe came up & had supper with them & then the boys took him home after chores. Mon & I went down on Silver Creek in P.M. It sure is nice down there. Lots of flowers.

Dandy nice warm day. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed. Gilbert finished plowing here about 9:30 A.M. Mon went over to Harry's & got the fanning mill in A.M. Dean dragged in A.M. & seeded in P.M. Mon & I went to Decorah in P.M. He got his grass seed. I got my hair fixed. Loyal rode home with us. He was down taking exams.

Dandy nice day. Plenty warm & quite windy. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon dragged & Dean sowed grass seed. We went to Mabel right after dinner & Dean had a tooth pulled. Mama & Charlotte & Jerome went too. The men worked in the field after we got back. Mr. Gabrielson was over in A.M. & Mon bought the Frigidaire. $157.00

Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. The men finished dragging & seeding grass seed on that piece about 8:30. Dean started discing down on the other piece. Mon & I took off the storm windows & doors in P.M. mowed the lawn & did odd jobs around. Mon & Dean took me over to Florence's in eve to practice & then they went on up town. Dean got a hair cut. I rode back up town with Cecil Goldsworthy's. We got home about 10:30.

Thurs. May 1
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean finished discing about the middle of A.M. & started seeding. He finished about 5. Mon spaded up the little garden spot here in the yard & I planted some garden. We went to B.O. in eve. Roscoe D. came up & the boys rode up with him. A traveling co. are going to put on movies once a week here during the summer & the first show was tonite at the Hall. Large crowd out. "Destry Rides Again." It was pretty good. They give away $10.00 each nite. Leigh Halse got it tonite.

Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon dragged & Dean sowed grass seed in A.M. They did odd jobs in P.M. Florence & Shirley came over & got me in eve & we went to practice at the church. Got home about 10:30.

Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie in A.M. We all went to Decorah in P.M. Marion went along. Then he came home to supper with us & went up town with us in eve. We got home about 12.

Pretty warm day. The boys went fishing. Mon & I went up & got Mama in P.M. & went to Decorah to the show. "Tobacco Road". It was good. Lester, Isa & Loyal were down awhile in eve.

Mon. May 5
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & we had showers off & on all P.M. Rained hard in the nite. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning. Arthur worked for Louie. He came home about 3:30. Marion was over all day & helped Mon fence. Dean helped some too. The Quandahl boys were down in eve May basketing. Dean went with them over to Howards.

Tues. May 6
Rather rainy looking in A.M. but cleared up & was a nice day until late in P.M. it clouded up. Rained some in eve & again in the nite. Arthur helped fix fence in A.M. & went to Louie's in P.M. Marion was over in A.M. & then Mon went & helped him in P.M. Dean hauled manure in A.M. & disced in P.M. Arthur & I went to B.O. in eve to the show. "When the Dalton's Rode". It was too much shooting.

Quite a nice day. Rather cold in A.M. but warmed up quite a little in P.M. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean disced. Mon took mama & I to Decorah in P.M. We both got our hair fixed. Dean went May basketing in eve. Effie McCauley died tonite.

Sat. May 10
Nice day. Still a little cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean disced in A.M. Nancy got sick after he came in at noon & we had Dr. Reide over too see her, so he did odd jobs in P.M. He took me up to Gladys' at noon & I went to B.O. with her. They Joan of Arc entertained the Mother's at the M.E. Church this P.M. Over 50 there. Dorothea Reid, Lola Goldsworthy, Florence E. & I sang 2 songs, "Silver Threads Among the Gold" & "The Bells of St. Mary's". Had a nice program & a good time. Florence bro't us home. Got home about 5:30. We went up town in eve. Got home about 11:30. Arlin started hauling lime here in P.M. We had our first little pigs this P.M.

Sun. May 11
Quite a nice day but chilly. Arlin & Maxine came about 9 A.M. & then they took Maxine over to Dave's & the boys went fishing. They got back here about 1:30 & cleaned their fish & had lunch & then went fishing again. They all came back here for supper. Didn't get any more fish. Maxine & Arlin stayed until about 8:30.

Mon. May 12
Nice day but a little cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Arlin hauled lime here in A.M. Finished at noon & he & Vernie McIntire were here for dinner. Dean helped them. He disced in P.M. Mon went to B.O. in A.M. & got a hair cut & shave. Lizzie & Bernice came over at noon & went to B.O. with Mon & I to Effie McCauley's funeral which was at the M.E. church at 2 P.M. Philip S., Mrs. Krumm, Velda Kess & I sang "Rock of Ages" "In the Garden" & "Softly & Tenderly". Large crowd out. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Tues. May 13
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean disced & dragged got thro' early. Arthur, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve to the show. "Scatterbrains". It was sure good. Large crowd out. Got home a little after 10.

Wed. May 14
Nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon started planting this A.M. Dean did a lot of odd jobs. We had 4 more little pigs tonite. Quite a storm in the nite. Hailed, rained & quite a lot of wind, thunder & lightning.

Thurs. May 15
Pretty warm day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean worked around until about 10 & then Mon went to planting. Finished that piece at noon. Dean disced in P.M. Mon & I went to Decorah to the show in eve. "Road to Zanzibar". Fine. Got home about 11:30. The boys went down to Jessie Dawley's in eve. Looked rainy in eve & got quite cool. Didn't rain tho.

Fri. May 16
Cooler day & sprinkled some times. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean disced. Mon & I went & got mama after dinner & went to Mabel too see Dr. Nass but he wasn't there. We went on to Canton from there & then home. Jerome went along too. He had a good time.

Sat. May 17
Nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean disced. Mon & I went over & got Marion after dinner & went to Decorah. Marion came home to supper with us & then we all went up town. Arthur went to Decorah. Dean & Roscoe bro't us home about 12:30 & then they went back to B.O. Mon was pretty tight.

Nice day. The boys went fishing in A.M. & were gone all day. Didn't do anything here but lay around.

Mon. May 19
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean disced in A.M. & he & Mon plowed corn in P.M. Arthur went to Decorah in P.M. for his examination for the army.

Tues. May 20
Nice day although it was rather cloudy for awhile in A.M. early & in P.M. Sprinkled a little early in A.M. & again in eve. Mon & Arthur went over to Gilbert's in A.M. & got his tractor & Arthur plowed. Mon & Dean plowed corn. Mon & I went up town a few minutes just after dinner. They finished plowing corn about 4 & then Mon run the tractor. He plowed until after 7. The boys & I went to B.O. to the show in eve. Had their first show out doors tonite. Between Chas. Reed's harness shop & the Hall in a tent. Large crowd out. "Three Cheers For the Irish". It was sure good. Gene McCabes name was drawn but he wasn't there so it will be $20 next time.

Wed. May 21
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked at Louie's. Mon finished plowing in A.M. & took the tractor home at noon. Dean dragged.

Thurs. May 22
Quite a nice day but cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon went up town a little while in A.M. Dean dragged until about 11 & then Mon went out & dragged & Dean & I went to the school picnic. Quite a few out & a swell dinner. We took Mrs. Krumm home after the program was over. Dean went out & dragged after we got home & Mon went over to Gilbert's awhile.

Fri. May 23
Quite a nice day but cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean finished dragging early in A.M. & then Mon started planting. Gust was here awhile in A.M. & got the manure spreader. I went to Club at Dorothy Seelye's in P.M. with Pauline. Not so many out. Had a good lunch.

Sat. May 24
Nice day. Arthur didn't work for Louie today. Mon finished planting corn early in A.M. We had an early dinner & went to Decorah. I got my hair fixed. We went up town in eve. I went up to mama's awhile. Mon & I came home about 10:30. Marion rode home with us.

Sun. May 25
Nice day but mighty windy & a little cool. The boys went fishing early in A.M. Arthur & Arlin came about 2:30 with a few fish. They cleaned them & then Mon went fishing with them. They didn't get any then too windy. Dean didn't bring home any. Arlin & Maxine were here for supper & stayed until about 7:30.

Mon. May 26
Nice in A.M. but windy. Clouded up in P.M. & rained. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean & I left home about 8 A.M. & went to Frankville. Took the lawn mower down to have Uncle Dan fix it. Ruth was washing. Had a good visit. Left there about 2:30. Uncle Dan came up to Decorah with us. It rained real hard just as we got to Decorah & also on the way home. It had rained here too when we got home. Had quite a few hard showers after we got home. Rained in the nite too. Sure needed the rain. Arthur got his returns from his exams & he has to report Oct 1.

Tues. May 27
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Had a hard rain in the nite. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & he helped them do some work in A.M. Mon took him home about 3:30. We went up town in eve. Went to the show "Carolina Moon". Gene Autry. It was sure good. Had it in the Hall on account of the rain & it sure did rain. The Hall was full. Arlin & Maxine stopped on their way home & bro't ice cream so we had a lunch. They left about 11:30.

Wed. May 28
Quite a nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean hauled manure on the garden in A.M. & plowed it in P.M. & fixed fence. Had a hard storm in the nite & most of the nite. Wind blew hard. Lots of thunder & lightning & rain.

Thurs. May 29
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Sprinkled off & on until about 4 & it sure rained from then on & it simply poured at times. Rained in the nite too. Arthur went to Mabel early in A.M. & had dental work done. He got home about 11:30. He went over to Louies in P.M. but came home when it rained. Mon & I went up & got mama in P.M. & went to Mabel. Got home just as it started to rain so hard. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. Had a terrible flood in Decorah tonite. Worst in 25 yrs.

Fri. May 30
Not very nice day. Rained some. Arthur & Dean went down to Roscoe's & spent the day. Rained in the nite again.

Sat. May 31
Quite a nice day. Arlin came over early in A.M. & he & Arthur went over to Joe Moran's. They got back here about 10:30. Arlin was here for dinner. Marion came just as we finished dinner. Mon, Marion Dean & I went to Decorah in our car & Arthur went with Arlin & Maxine. We drove down around in the south part of Decorah viewing the flood work. It was sure bad. Marion came home with us for supper & then we went up town in eve. Had another little calf today & 7 more little pigs.

Sun. June 1
Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up after dinner & rained hard again. Mon & Arthur went down to Roscoe's in A.M. & Dean went over to Howard's awhile. 3 of our little calves got up to Ludwigs & the men had to go up there early in A.M. & get them. Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah in P.M. to the show "Topper Returns". It was sure funny.

Mon. June 2
Not such a nice day. Sprinkled off & on in A.M. & some in P.M. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean took the calves over to Marion's in A.M. We went up town in P.M. Marion went with us from Ludwig's. I stopped at mama's & the men went to Prosper. Mon got a board.

Tues. June 3
Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. but cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Arthur S. was here in P.M. on triple A. We went up town in eve. Went to the show. They had it outside. It was rather cool. "Virginia City." It was good. Large crowd. Vern Porter's name was called but he wasn't there. We got home about 11:30. Had more little pigs today.

Wed. June 4
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed in A.M. The men did odd jobs in A.M. Cleaned the hen house too. Dean plowed corn in P.M. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. at Martin Jaarstad in P.M. with Kate L. Not so many out. Had a dandy lunch. Had some more little pigs tonite.

Thurs. June 5
Quite a nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. I ironed in A.M. Mon & I went to Decorah a little while in P.M. Dean dragged ground for beans. Lennie Whalen was here for dinner.

Fri. June 6
Not such a nice day. Wind blew hard. Looked pretty rainy in P.M. but just sprinkled. Rained in the eve & nite. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean dragged in A.M. & plowed corn in P.M. Mon & I planted some garden & potatoes in A.M. Mon planted beans in P.M. & I went to Club at Alice Seelye's with Pauline. We had a picnic lunch & it was sure nice. Not so many out. Philip treated us to ice cream. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sat. June 7
Not such a nice day but not too bad either. Cooler. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon planted beans & finished in P.M. Dean plowed corn until Mon finished the beans & then he dragged the beans. Mon & I planted some more potatoes & set out some cabbage & tomato plants. Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah in eve. Dean went to B.O. Roy Wernett went to Decorah with us. Very large crowd in town. Had a great time to find a place to park. We went to the show. "Grand Old Opry". It was good. We got back to B.O. about 12. Stayed there a few minutes. They had a shower for Mr. & Mrs. Maynard Newhouse at the Pavilion but we didn't go up at all. Cold nite. Had some more little pigs today.

Sun. June 8
Not very nice day. Sprinkled some during the day. The boys went fishing in A.M. & again in P.M. Got some. Mon went over to Marion's awhile in A.M. We went to B.O. awhile in P.M. I went up to mama's. Arlin came while we were eating supper & stayed until about 9:30. Had some more little pigs today. Rained in the eve & nite. Cool day & nite.

Mon. June 9
Not very nice day. Cool & windy. Rained some early in A.M. Arthur went to B.O. early in A.M. & was up there until noon. Dean cut weeds most of A.M. Mon, Dean & I finished planting potatoes & the rest of the garden this P.M.

Tues. June 10
Dark day again. Misted some during the day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean did odd jobs. The boys & I went up to the show. Clyde & Allen rode up with us. They had the show in the hall. "The Howard's of Virginia". It was pretty good. Very large crowd. Margaret Moran won the $20.00. It started raining during the show & rained quite hard the rest of the nite I guess. Arthur & I took mama home. Dean rode home with Roscoe. Charlotte & Howard moved their household goods from mama's today down to Bluffton to their new little house they have had built.

Wed. June 11
Another dark day. Sprinkled off & on all day. Had a hard electrical storm early in eve. Arlin came early in A.M. while the men were milking. He & Arthur went to B.O. after breakfast & got back just as we were eating dinner so Arlin was here for dinner. Mon & Dean went over to Marion's in A.M. & then up to B.O. Marion was here for dinner. We went up & got mama after dinner & went to Decorah. Dean stayed at B.O. I got my hair fixed & Mon & Arthur got hair cuts. Arthur went to Decorah with Arlin & Maxine. It rained hard most of the way home from Decorah.

Thurs. June 12
Not very nice day. Rained off & on during the day & sometimes it just poured. Arlin came with the truck & Arthur went with him down to the river & got a load of gravel & put it in Louie's driveway. They came back here for dinner. Mon & Dean went with them after dinner & got a load. Dean helped them after that. Mon & I went to B.O. about 2:30. I went to M.E.L.A.S. at the basement. Quite a crowd out in spite of the rainy weather. Genevra S., Fern R. & Ruth Greenslade entertained. We had our last little pigs today. That makes us 79. Parnell Donlan & Miss Haugen were married today.

Fri. June 13
Another day when it rained off & on although the sun did shine & it was very nice for a couple of hours in P.M. Rained after that again tho'. Arlin came while we were eating breakfast & the men finished up the chores & helped him haul gravel over to Louie's. They hauled one load into our driveway at noon. They finished hauling gravel about 2:30 & then Arthur went with Arlin & helped him haul a load of corn to Louie from Johnny Johnson's. They were here for supper. Dean mowed the lawn & Mon & I went up in the woods & hunted up a sow that had been missing most of the week. She had 3 pigs.

Sat. June 14
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & nite too. Mon & I went to B.O. awhile in P.M. I went up to mama's. We went to B.O. in eve. The Joan of Arc entertained the "fathers" of the community at the Lutheran basement with a lunch & program. After we got there the program com. asked Florence E., Dorothea R. Velda K. & I to sing so we sang "The Church in the Wildwood". Had a dandy lunch. About 25 men there. We got home about 11.

Sun. June 15
Dandy nice day but a little cool. We went down to Claude's & spent the day. Mama was there too. Had plenty of strawberries.

Mon. June 16
Dandy nice day. Warmer. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. Mon went to Canton in A.M. & Dean did odd jobs. They started plowing corn in P.M.

Tues. June 17
Dandy day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean plowed corn. I hoed gardens & planted some more seeds. We went to B.O. in eve. The boys & I went to the show. "Her First Romance". It was good. Not such a large crowd out tonite. Earl Foltz got the money. We got home about 11. The Quandahl boys rode home with us. Had another little calf today. We were invited to a shower on Mr. & Mrs. Parnell Donlan tonite.

Wed. June 18
Dandy day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. The men plowed corn. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. in P.M. at the church basement with Kate L. Mrs. Lovlien & Mabel entertained. We listened to the Joe Louis - Billy Conn fight in eve. Joe won in the 13th round. It was some fight.

Thurs. June 19
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean plowed corn. Mon & I went down to Wernetts for a little while just after dinner. I bought their brooder stove $5.00. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. I went up to mama's. Dean got a hair cut.

Fri. June 20
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm & windy. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean plowed corn. I went to Club at Muriel T's with Pauline L. in P.M. Not so many out. Had a dandy lunch.

Sat. June 21
Dandy day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. The men plowed corn in A.M. We went over & got Marion in P.M. & went to Decorah. Quite a few in town. Marion came home with us to supper & then we went up town in eve. Lots of cars in town. Got home about 11:30.

Sun. June 22
Dandy day. Dean went over to Floyd Blaess's & spent the day. Arthur, Ruth K., Arlin & Maxine went fishing. They got back here about 5 & Ruth stayed here. Arlin & Maxine went over to Johnson's for awhile & then came back here & had supper. They got over 40 fish. They stayed until about 9:30. Mon & I went over to Marion's in A.M. & picked strawberries. Got quite a few. We went down to the creek fishing in P.M. but Mon lost the hook so we didn't stay long. Had another little calf today.

Mon. June 23
Dandy day. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon helped awhile in A.M. He & I went to Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed. We got 663 little chickens. We went on to Prosper on our way home & Mon bought a stock tank. Our chicks cost $26.25.

Tues. June 24
Dandy day but pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. The men plowed corn. Mon, Dean & I went up town in eve. Dean & I went to the show. "Rebecca". Maxine's name was called but she wasn't there.

Wed. June 25
Dandy day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean plowed corn. Fred Donald was buried in B.O. this P.M.

Thurs. June 26
Cloudy part of the day but pretty warm. Sprinkled just a little after dinner but we had a shower in the nite. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn all day & Mon in A.M. I broke my glasses in A.M. so Mon took me to Decorah in P.M. to see about getting another pair.

Fri. June 27
Pretty warm day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean plowed corn. Archie Halvorson brot the new stock tank down in P.M.

Sat. June 28
Pretty warm day again. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon helped in P.M. but he & I went to Decorah in P.M. I got my glasses $12.00. We went to B.O. in eve. Arthur went to Decorah & Dean went to Matter's. We got home about 11.

Sun. June 29
Rained quite hard for awhile in A.M. Cleared up about 11 & was very nice until in eve. It rained hard again then & the wind blew hard. Pretty warm day. Arlin came over early in A.M. planning too haul some rock too put under the new tank but they didn't go until after it quit raining. Dean went & got Maxine at noon & bro't her over here. She & I went down to the river with them in P.M. after a load. Arthur, Arlin & Maxine went fishing after they got the rock hauled, but didn't get any. Dean went down on Pine Creek. Mon & I went over to Marion's but he wasn't home. Mon & I went to Harmony to the show in eve with Arlin & Maxine. "Million Dollar Baby". It was good. Got home about 12.

Mon. June 30
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean went over to Marion's in A.M. too look up a calf that was missing. They found it up to Carolan's (on the old Price place.) Charley Wernett's house burned this P.M. They only saved a few things. We went down there in eve but they were over to Geo W's. We went on to B.O. a minute from there. Sprinkled a little in the nite. Mon & Dean plowed beans in P.M.

Tues. July 1
Dandy nice day but much cooler. Arthur worked for Louie. We went to Decorah in A.M. Dean had to register for the draft. Got home about 11:45. Dean plowed beans in P.M. Mon worked at the school books awhile & then he mowed canada thistles & other weeds. I helped him awhile in P.M. haul thistles away so he could mow. The boys & I went to B.O. in eve to the show. Arthur took Ruth K. too. The school board met here in eve for their annual meeting. We got to bed some after 11. The show was "West of Pinto Basin". Good. Large crowd out. Robert Dinger's number was chosen & as he was so young he only got $5 so it will be $25.00 next time. Pretty cool in the tent.

Wed. July 2
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean plowed corn. I did odd jobs. Mrs. Quandahl, Ida, Allen & Leo were down in P.M. & picked gooseberries.

Thurs. July 3
Pretty warm day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon mowed weeds awhile in A.M. & then he plowed corn. Dean plowed the garden right after dinner & I hoed up there all P.M. We went up town in eve.

Fri. July 4
Beautiful day. Mon & the boys went to B.O. in A.M. & bro't mama home with them. Claude's came about 11:30 & we all went over to Cold Water & had a picnic dinner. Quite a crowd over there too. We sure had a good dinner & a good time. Dean went with Chas. Wernett in A.M. & didn't come back for chores. They were over to Mabel to the celebration.

Sat. July 5
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon plowed in A.M. & he & I went to Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed. Artie Mc. rode home with us & went to Lizzie's. We went up town awhile in eve. It looked pretty stormy in eve & quite a lot of thunder & lightning but it didn't rain much. We got home about 10:30.

Sun. July 6
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Arlin came over early in A.M. He & Maxine, Arthur & Ruth went fishing. Dean went down to the creek swimming & fishing. Mon & I went down to Aunt Lissa's for dinner. Uncle Alberts, Aunt Eunice, Sonny, Vin & Eunice, Earl & Wilma were there & they had a picnic dinner. Quite a few relatives out & had a swell dinner.

Mon. July 7
Quite a nice day. Although it looked mighty stormy at noon & again in late P.M. but it only sprinkled. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. Dean plowed corn. Mon mowed in A.M. & late in P.M. He went to Prosper after dinner. Mon gave Mart L. some hay & he was putting it up today. Alice Albertson was here in eve & signed her contract for teaching our school. "Happy's" were here a minute in eve. One of the heifer's had a calf today.

Tues. July 8
Cloudy most of A.M. Cleared up about 11 & was very nice the rest of the day. Mon & Dean hoed potatoes in A.M. Dean plowed corn in P.M. & Mon mowed. I helped him mow some thistles in P.M. Arthur worked for Louie. Arlin was here in A.M. & stayed for dinner. Mart put up hay here in P.M. Maxine, Ruth K & Alice A left about 5 this A.M. for a trip thro' the west. They drove Lyle Wilbur's car. We went up town in eve to the show. "Melody & Music". It was good. Very large crowd out. Darwin Christopher's name was called but he wasn't there so it will be $35.00 next time. We got home about 10:30. Cool nite.

Wed. July 9
Mighty hot day. Warmest in Iowa this year so far. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon went up after mama early in A.M. Isa came down too & they stayed all day. Mon & I took them back in eve. We dressed chickens & did quite a few things. Dean plowed corn until about 10:30 & then they got up a load of hay. We put it in the barn right after dinner & then we got in one more load & they broke the loader & had to fix that so we didn't get much haying done. Mart & O'Dean got some hay in P.M. too. Dean went down to the creek swimming in eve.

Thurs. July 10
Much cooler today. Sprinkled off & on all A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. Clouded up late in P.M. & looked pretty rainy then & in eve but it didn't storm any. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon went to Prosper in A.M. & then to Cresco too get repairs for Deans corn plow. He didn't get back from there until about 3. He took me to B.O. then Mama, Florence Perry & I entertained the M.E.L.A.S. at the basement. Florence paid in & didn't help any. We had a pretty good crowd for such a busy time. Took in $12.70. Loyal came down & helped the men & they got in 2 loads of hay after Mon took me to B.O. They came up after me in eve & Loyal went home. Cool nite.

Fri. July 11
Cool day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn in A.M. & Mon mowed. We put up hay in P.M. Mart's got hay today.

Sat. July 12
Cool day & cold nite. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn in A.M. We put up hay in P.M. Went to B.O. in eve. The Joan of Arc Club had an ice cream social on Cecil's lawn for the benefit of the cemetry. Too cold a nite not so much cream sold. Mon & Arthur went to Decorah in eve. Mon got a hair cut. We got home about 12.

Sun. July 13
Dandy nice day. Warm. Mon went over to Marion's early in A.M. & got back here about 11. Marion came home with him & spent the day. Arthur went up & got mama early in A.M. Lester's, Dell's, Aunt Lissa, Aunt Eunice, Uncle Albert, "Sonny", Earl, Wilma & Clarence were here & spent the day. Had a picnic dinner. Earl's & Clarence went home right after dinner. Lizzie, Dave, Artie, Ella Jewell & Fred were here in P.M. Arlin was here for dinner & supper & spent the eve. Dean went to B.O. in eve too watch them roller skate. The boys went fishing in A.M. & P.M. Claude's went down to Maries today.

Mon. July 14
Nice most of the day. Had a little sprinkle about 11:30. Arthur worked at Louie's. I washed & ironed. Dean plowed corn in A.M. & Mon mowed. We put up hay in P.M. "Sonny" came over in A.M. & stayed until after dinner. Mart's got hay again today. We had a little colt in the nite. Mon, Arthur & I went to Mabel in eve. Arthur got into some poison weeds yesterday & his left hand was swollen so & itched so bad he went over too see Dr. Nass about it.

Tues. July 15
Nice most of the day but cool & windy. Had a little sprinkle in P.M. Arthur stayed at home today. His hand isn't very good. Mon went over to Marion's early in A.M. & then he & Dean got some poles out of the woods for hay poles. Arthur went over to Marion's about noon & Marion came home with him & stayed the rest of the day. They finished filling the barn with hay this P.M. & put up hay poles & started a stack out doors. We went to B.O. in eve. Went to the show. "Blondie & Servant Trouble". It was good. Delores Cameron won the $35. Very large crowd out.

Wed. July 16
Rather cloudy part of the day but it didn't rain. Arthur's hand is better today but he didn't go to work. Mon & Marion went to Cresco early in A.M. too get the binder trucks fixed. They got back at noon. Mr. Ellingon & Donald came early this A.M. to fix the cistern & they were here for dinner. They finished up what they could about 3:30. Dean & Arthur went down to the river early in A.M. & got some sand for them in the car & then Arthur & Marion went again just after dinner. Dean mowed in A.M. Bill & Mart Leonhart came up & helped hay in P.M. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. at the church in P.M. with Kate L. Lenora Liestikow & Dorothy Rolf's entertained. Had a dandy supper & a good crowd. Arlin was here for supper. Mon & I went over to Marion's a minute after chores.

Thurs. July 17
Sprinkled some early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day until eve. It looked like a bad storm then but we only got a little shower. Arthur worked for Louie. Mr. Ellingon came over & put the eave trough's on early in A.M. Mon & Dean worked with the binder in A.M. Mon & I went to Bluffton a minute just after dinner. Mon started cutting grain late in P.M.

Fri. July 18
Cool windy day. Sun didn't shine much in A.M. but did in P.M. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean plowed corn & the garden until about 10 A.M. & then Mon started cutting grain. Dean took me up to Dorothy Seelye's at noon & I went to Club at Violet's with her. Not so many out. Had a dandy lunch. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. We had another little calf today.

Sat. July 19
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon went to B.O. early in A.M. & Mama came home with him & stayed all day. Mart, Bill & O'Dean L. were here & hayed today & were here for dinner. Mon mowed in A.M. but cut grain in P.M. Dean helped with the hay all day. We took mama home in eve & then Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah. Dean stayed in B.O. Arthur got his hair cut & I got mine fixed. We got home about 1. Maxine, Ruth & Alice got home from their trip this P.M.

Sun. July 20
Dandy day only rather windy. Arlin came in A.M. & he & the men went & got some minnows. He went over & got Maxine & she was here awhile & then then Arthur went with them & got Ruth & they went fishing. They got back here about 8 P.M. & were here awhile. Dean went fishing & swimming. Mon & I went over to Florence's in P.M. too see Aunt Alice. She is not very good. Howard was here in eve. Dean & I went up to Ludwigs in eve. His birthday & they had a party for him. Quite a crowd there. We got home about 1:30.

Mon. July 21
Nice day but quite windy. Got pretty warm in P.M. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean worked at the oats. Leonhart's were here haying today. They took two loads home at noon & then put a load on our stack & took some home with them in P.M. Howard was here in eve awhile. Mon & I went up town awhile in eve. We had another little calf today. It sprinkled in the nite a little.

Tues. July 22
Pretty hot day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon finished cutting grain about 3:30. Dean shocked. Mart L. was up & mowed. He took a load of hay home. Arthur & I went to B.O. in eve to the show. Ruth went too. "The Sign of the Wolf". It was good. Quite a crowd out. Dean went over to Howard's & Fred's in eve. Ede is quite sick.

Wed. July 23
Hot day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & I went to Decorah about 9 A.M. Took some corn & oats down to fix for chickens. We caught up with Dave walking to B.O. but he went to Decorah with us. We got home about 11:30. Mart, Kate & Will L. were here working at the hay so they were here for dinner. Dean shocked in A.M. but he & Mon helped with the hay in P.M. so Kate stayed at the house with me.

Thurs. July 24
Pretty hot day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean finished shocking in A.M. & then went up town awhile. We all went up town in P.M. I went to M.E.L.A.S. at the church basement. Lizzie, Bernice & Stella Halse entertained. Not such a large crowd. Mon & Dean went to Prosper in P.M. too. Howard was over in eve.

Fri. July 25
Hot day again. Arthur worked for Louie. Glen Rollins came down about 7 A.M. & hauled 4 head of cattle to Decorah for us to the Sales Pavilion. Mon went down when he did but came right back. Marion came over at noon & we went to Decorah in P.M. Mon went down too see the cattle sold. Shirley E. rode as far as Bill Erickson's with us when we came home. Dean went over to Howard's awhile in eve. Warm nite.

Sat. July 26
Pretty warm day. Arthur didn't work for Louie today. Dean helped Howard hay today. Arthur went to B.O. & around in A.M. Loyal came home with him to dinner. We went to Decorah in P.M. Mon got the returns from the cattle. They bro't $263.50. Had a little shower early in eve. Looked like rather a bad storm but we didn't get it. We all stayed at home this eve. Had another little calf today.

Sun. July 27
Quite a nice day until late in P.M. a storm came up. Looked pretty bad & blew quite hard but didn't rain so much. Arthur, Ruth, Maxine & Arlin went fishing all day. Dean went awhile in A.M. but didn't get any. Arthur got 8. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in P.M. Dean went rolling skating & I went to mama's. We came home during the storm. Lizzie Cassel rode home from B.O. with us. She had been over to Floyd's & spent the day & they bro't her back to B.O. Arthur, Ruth, Maxine & Arlin went to Decorah to the show in eve. Dean went roller skating. Cecil Wicks store burned about 3 A.M. Mon & Dean went but Arthur didn't. They got back about 5:30. Didn't save a thing. Little daughter born to Edna & Donald Emery tonite.

Mon. July 28
Rather cloudy & sprinkled some in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean reshocked our grain. Pretty hot day.

Tues. July 29
Another hot day. Clouded up in P.M. & looked like a pretty bad storm but it went around us. We didn't get much rain. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Threshed at Brayton's until it rained. He was home for supper. Mon & Dean threshed at Happy's until the rain. We went to B.O. in eve. Went to the show. Large crowd out. Lillian Haugland got the $20.00. Gene Autry in "Ride Tenderfoot Ride".

Wed. July 30
Nice day. Somewhat cooler. Arthur didn't work for Louie today. He & Dean went to Happy's in P.M. & finished threshing there. Mon & I went up town in P.M. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. Ruby Rehwinkel entertained. Quite a few out & a swell supper. Dean went roller skating & other places in eve. Maynard Newhouse & Bill Norris were here most of A.M. trying too sell insurance. Dean was over to Howards.

Thurs. July 31
Nice day. Not quite so hot but plenty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean threshed at Wilhelm's in A.M. They threshed at [Lupers?] in P.M. but Dean didn't have to help there. Mon went over to Happy's early in A.M. He went over & got Marion later in A.M. & they reshocked the grain again. We went to Decorah in P.M. Went to B.O. in eve awhile.

Fri. Aug. 1
Another day that it was a little cool. Arthur went up & got mama early in A.M. We threshed today & Arthur helped here for Louie. Ruth & Walter came down too. Took most of the day threshing but they stopped so many times. Arthur took mama & Ruth home about 5. Mon & I went to B.O. in eve awhile. Bought three ducks of Mrs. Palmer & 4 chairs. Didn't bring the chairs home tho'. Arlin was here awhile in eve.

Sat. Aug. 2
Looked rainy different times during the day & eve but it didn't rain. Sprinkled a few drops in A.M. & again in eve. Arthur worked for Louie. Threshed at Jim Headington's, Harold S's, & Gust's. Mon & Dean threshed at Howard's in A.M. in & P.M. from 3 on at Ray Halse's. I helped Pearl cook for thresher's. Grace & Gladys B. helped too. Quite warm. We went up town in eve. The M.E.L.A.S. had an ice cream social on the church lawn. Got rather cool up there. We got home about 12. Beatrice Anderson & Wallace Halse were married tonite.

Sun. Aug. 3
Nice day & pretty warm. Mon went up to Ludwig's early in A.M. awhile. Arthur & Ruth went fishing & Dean went fishing. Arlin & Maxine were here in eve. We were invited to Beatrice's shower today but didn't go.

Mon. Aug. 4
Rained early in A.M. & was cloudy most of A.M. but was nice & bright in P.M. Arthur, Dean & I went to Decorah in A.M. Louie came over at noon & Arthur went & helped him P.M. Dean went fishing with Howard & Leonard B. Mon went over to Marion's but he wasn't home. Richard B. was here in A.M.

Tues. Aug. 5
Dandy nice day. Not quite so hot. Arthur worked for Louie threshing at Ole's & then to Louie's. Mon & Dean threshed at Roy's. Mon went over to Louie's to help about 3 P.M. Mart & Bill were here haying. I washed & ironed. Vera & Loretta were here awhile in P.M. They bro't chicken over & put in the refrigerator. We went to B.O. in eve to the show. Lum & Abner in "Dreaming Out Loud". It was good. Large crowd out. Got home about 10:30.

Wed. Aug. 6
Nice day. Not quite so hot. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon helped Louie thresh in A.M. early. They got done about 9 & then he went to Fred's. Dean threshed at Fred's too. Mon, Dean & I took Loyal home in eve. He helped Fred thresh.

Thurs. Aug. 7
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Arthur worked for Louie. They finished threshing in their ring today & it was after dark when he got home. Mon & Dean threshed at Harry's in A.M. & at Fritz's in P.M. I helped Ruth in P.M. Floyd & Gladys were here awhile in eve. We bought a bu. of potatoes of Floyd & he delivered them $7.50 per bu.

Fri. Aug. 8
Nice warm day again. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Mon got a hair cut. Ruth Casterton & her boy friend rode home from Decorah with us. We took them to B.O. Dean got his questionarre today & he got it filled out at Decorah. Arthur is thro' at Louie's for awhile. Mon & I went to Decorah to the show in eve. "Caught In the Draft". Bob Hope & Dorothy Lamour. It was sure funny. Got home about 11.

Sat. Aug. 9
Dandy nice day. The men did odd jobs in A.M. & nothing much in P.M. We went to B.O. in eve. I went up to mama's awhile. Marvin was there too. Arthur went to Decorah to the show & Dean went to Breezy Hill to a benefit dance for Claude Taylor. Marion rode home with us. We got home about 11:30. Cooler tonite. Bertha McCauley & "Mark" Ramlo were married today.

Sun. Aug. 10
Pretty warm day. Clouded up late in P.M. & we had a little shower. Arthur & Ruth went fishing all day. Dean went down to Dawley's with Roscoe & Tom. Mon & I went down by Wilhelm's in P.M. fishing. I went up & visited with Mrs. W. Mon caught 2 bass. Ruth was here for supper. They got some fish too.

Mon. Aug. 11
Pretty warm day but a north wind so that helped. I washed & ironed. Arthur went over to Walt's & went with him on the route. He didn't get home until supper time. Mon & Dean threshed at Ludwig's in A.M. & then the threshed out Happy's flax in P.M. Bill Norris bro't up 14 nice fish in A.M. so we had fish for supper. He was up again in eve & Mon bought insurance for Dean. We got a rattlesnake by the cellar door tonite. 6 rattles. Too close for comfort.

Tues. Aug. 12
Nice day. Somewhat cooler. The men did odd jobs in A.M. The boys went fishing in P.M. & Mon went to B.O. We went to B.O. in eve. Went to the show "Hit Parade of 1941. Kenny Baker & Frances Langford. It was pretty good but not as good as some of the other's. Large crowd out. Mrs. Frankie Barth got the $10.00. Pretty cool in the tent. We got home about 11. Arlin was here for supper.

Wed. Aug. 13
Nice day but cool. The men went over to Marion's early in A.M. & then over to Gust's. They were at Gust's for dinner. They got home some time in P.M. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. at the basement with Kate L. Gloria Yarwood & Catherine Hegdvedt entertained. Had a dandy supper.

Thurs. Aug. 14
Sprinkled off & on during the day but not enough to do any good. The men didn't do much of anything. Arthur went to the Decorah Fair in P.M. & stayed down for the eve.

Fri. Aug. 15
Nice cool day. Arthur, Ruth, Arlin & Maxine left here about 6:30 & went to Lansing & then took the boat on a pleasure excursion up the river to La Crosse. Mon & I went to Canton to the "Day Off" in P.M. We got home about 5:30 & Dean went up with Howard's in eve. Cool nite.

Sat. Aug. 16
Dandy nice day. Not too warm. Mon & I went to Decorah about 11:30. Had dinner up town & then went down to the Fair. Large crowd. Pretty good Fair. We stayed down for the eve. Dean came down in P.M. & stayed for eve. We got home about 12 & Dean came a few minutes afterward. Arthur did all the nite chores alone. Cool nite.

Sun. Aug. 17
Rather cloudy all day. Sprinkled a little in A.M. Arlin came over early in A.M. & Arthur went with him over to his place. They came back here for dinner. They & the girls went fishing in P.M. Howard came over in A.M. & he & Dean went fishing until noon. Dean went again in P.M. & got a few.

Mon. Aug. 18
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Pretty windy & dusty. The men did odd jobs. Mon & I went to Mabel rather late in P.M. The men shut up the old sows this A.M.

Tues. Aug. 19
Nice day but pretty windy & dusty. I washed in A.M. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah in P.M. Dean took his exams for the army. We went to B.O. in eve. Went to the show. Showed how Chesterfields were made & how Fred Waring put on his program. The show was The "Tumble Down Shack in Arizona". It was good. Large crowd. No one got the money. We got home about 10:45. Mon went down to Leonhart's early in A.M.

Wed. Aug. 20
Nice day. Dean helped Howard. Mon & Arthur did odd jobs. I ironed in P.M. Looked pretty rainy in P.M. but didn't rain.

Thurs. Aug. 21
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & we had a little shower. Not much though. Dean helped Howard. Mon took me to B.O. in P.M. I went to M.E.L.A.S. at the church. Mabel Headington, Louie H., Beulah S. & Audry S. entertained. Had a dandy supper. Quite a few out. Dean went to Mabel in eve with Howard & Arthur went to a farewell party for Manford Whitney. He is going away to teach.

Fri. Aug. 22
Dandy nice day but cool. Arthur helped Louie today. Dean helped Howard in A.M. but got thro' at noon. Mon, Dean & I went over to Colonel Bently's in P.M. & got a bushel of duchess apples & a few wealthies. Louie sent some wealthies home with Arthur at nite too.

Sat. Aug. 23
Nice day. Somewhat warmer. Dr. Reide & son came over about 8:30 A.M. & vaccinated our hogs for cholera. Arthur worked for Louie in P.M. Mon, Dean, Marion & I went to Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed. Marion came home to supper with us & went up town with us. Arthur went out to Bernard Nash's after Ruth in eve. Albert & Norris E. & Marion were here in A.M.

Sun. Aug. 24
Rather cloudy in A.M. but cleared up & was nice in P.M. Arthur & Ruth went fishing & Dean went down to the creek fishing. Mon & I went to Decorah in P.M. to the show "Bachelor Daddys" with Baby Sandy. It was sure good. We took a ride afterward. Claude, Olive, Marion & Marvin were here & spent the eve.

Mon. Aug. 25
Looked rainy in A.M. but didn't rain. Mon went over to Marion's early in A.M. & they went up town & spent the day. The boys did odd jobs. We had another little calf today. Lizzie Cassel was over awhile in A.M. I canned 9 qts. of apples in P.M.

Tues. Aug. 26
Cloudy early in A.M. & sprinkled some, but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day but cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah in P.M. Got some oats hulled for the chickens. We went to B.O. in eve to the show "Laddie". It was good. They had it in the hall. Large crowd. Elmer Kimber got the $30. Got home about 10:30.

Wed. Aug. 27
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon went to Decorah early in A.M. with some feed to have ground. Ole & Ludwig went with him. He got home a little after 12 & then went to Prosper. He got home about 4. Dean, Arthur & Ruth went fishing in A.M. they got back here about 3 & cleaned their fish & then went down on Silver Creek. They got back about 5. Ruth stayed for supper & until after chores.

Thurs. Aug. 28
Nice day. Dean helped Howard. Mon & Arthur did odd jobs. Fixed a place too feed the little pigs. Let the old sows out & painted the wagon. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. They had a dance at the pavilion. Roy Halverson's orchestra. The music was good. Not many out. Arthur went up town awhile. We got home about 1:30.

Fri. Aug. 29
Pretty hot day. Arthur worked for Louie. Didn't do too much. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in P.M. Dorothy S. went too Club at Agnes W's. Not too many out. Had a dandy lunch. Tom & Dora Roberts, Leah, her husband & daughter are here visiting & Leah came to Club so we had a chance to visit with her a little. Florence, Albert & Norris were over in eve.

Sat. Aug. 30
Pretty warm day. Fritz was down awhile in A.M. Maxine came just as we were going to eat dinner so she ate with us & then went to Decorah with us. She & I went to the show. "The Shepherd of the Hills". It was good but not at all like the book. Mama rode up to B.O. with us from Aunt Lissa's. We got home about 5:30. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Mon & I came home about 11:30 & Dean came later. Arthur & Ruth went somewhere. The boys, Maxine & I went down to the Hospital when we started for home & Maxine & I went in to see Doris Blaess a minute. She had an operation yesterday.

Sun. Aug. 31
Nice day. Pretty warm early in A.M. but the wind got around into the north & it got cooler in P.M. Dean went fishing early in A.M. & didn't get home until in eve. Arthur & Ruth went fishing in A.M. & then Arthur went over there for supper.

Mon. Sept. 1
Dandy nice day. Arthur went over to Louie's early in A.M. & did his chores. Louie & Mrs. K. took Ruth to Cedar Falls early this A.M. to take the train to Cherokee. Back to her school. I washed & ironed. Dean went up to Gust's in A.M. & got the manure spreader & hauled manure in P.M. Mon & Arthur did odd jobs. Dean went over to Howard's about 4 P.M. & helped with the chores. Howard went up to La Crosse too get a Dr. for Ede. Arlin was here awhile at noon. Our school started today with Alice Albertson as teacher.

Tues. Sept. 2
Rather cloudy & cool today. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean hauled manure. Mon & I went to Decorah in A.M. Took some oats down & had them ground. I got my hair fixed. Mon took Mrs. Krumm & I to B.O. in P.M. We sang for Mrs. Lena Smalley's funeral at the M.E. church. Rev. Havernos was the minister. Large funeral. Zoa played. We sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus," "Rock of Ages", "God Will Take Care of You", & "Nearer My God to Thee". Lester & Isa were down after dinner & got some cobs. We went to B.O. in eve to the show. Joe E. Brown in "So You Wont Talk". It was good. Arthur didn't go. We got home about 10:30.

Wed. Sept. 3
Rained a little early in A.M. & it was cloudy & misty until nearly noon. Cleared off & was nice in P.M. Quite warm. Arthur & I went over to Albert E's. about 7:15 A.M. & Arthur drove Albert's car to Iowa City. Florence & Aunt Alice went along. We left Albert's about 8 & got to Iowa City about 11:30. Had dinner down town & then took Aunt Alice to the Hospital. Arthur & I went too Neva's a few minutes & then out to Marie's at West Branch. Stayed out there until about 4. Waited at the Hospital for Florence until nearly 6. We went down town & had supper & then back to the Hospital & saw Aunt Alice a few minutes. She didn't want Florence to come home so it was rather hard to leave there. Left Iowa City about 8 & got home here about 12. Stopped two or 3 times on the way home.

Thurs. Sept. 4
Not such a nice day but not too bad. Sprinkled a few times & pretty windy. Dean went over & got Marion early in A.M. & he came over & helped the men. Dean took him home after dinner. The men didn't do much in P.M. but sleep. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. They had a dance at the Pavilion. Vince & his Hot Shots played. Not too good music & not too big a crowd. Mon & I took Marion home. Gordon Haugen bro't Dean home. We got home about 1:30.

Fri. Sept. 5
Terribly windy day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean didn't do anything but chores. Mon went to B.O. awhile in P.M.

Sat. Sept. 6
Quite a nice day. We went to Decorah in P.M. Lester, Isa & I went to the Hospital too see Doris B. She looks fine & said she was getting along fine too. We went up town awhile in eve. Not many in town. Marie & Paul got up to Claude's about 2 A.M. too spend the week end. Alice Albertson & Lyle Wilbur were married at the M.E. Church this P.M. at 3.

Sun. Sept. 7
Not very nice day. Looked rainy all day & misted some off & on until about 4 P.M. We sure got a storm. Thunder, lightning & rain & a lot of rain. We went down to Claude's to a picnic for Marie & Paul. Claude's relatives & Olives so there were quite a few there. Had a swell dinner. We took Dell & Mettie home & it sure poured down while we were in there. Maxine & Arlin were here & spent the eve. It stormed all eve & nite too. The power went off about 8 so we had to find lamps. Marie & Paul went home about 5 P.M.

Mon. Sept. 8
Rained hard for awhile in A.M. & then let up & just drizzled & was damp & dreary all day. Arlin & Mr. Trehus came early in A.M. too trade cars. Mon traded with Mr. T. our Chev. for a 1939 Hudson. Arlin was here for dinner. We went up town in P.M. I went up to Mama's. They had a shower at the M.E. church basement for Alice & Lyle tonite but we didn't go.

Tues. Sept. 9
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day & sometimes quite hard in A.M. Cooler. We went up & got mama about 9 A.M. & went to Decorah. Mama went down too see Anna Olson & I got a new permanent, or part of one. I bought a bu. of peaches $1.49 & a crate of prunes .89. Mama came home with us from Decorah & stayed until eve. We went up to the show in eve. Gene Autry in Melody Ranch. It was good. Got home a little after ten. Tommie Emery got the $20.00.

Wed. Sept. 10
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon & Arthur fixed fence & did odd jobs & Dean hauled manure. They got a fence around the hay & straw stack & so turned the cattle in the clover. Mon took me up to Ludwigs in P.M. after some apples & he went on over to Marion's awhile. Little daughter born to Gene & Clara McCabe.

Thurs. Sept. 11
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon went up & got mama & Isa early in A.M. Mama bro't some blankets & rugs too wash so we washed them & then canned apples, peaches & prunes. Mon took them home about 4:30.

Fri. Sept. 12
Nice warm day but terribly windy. Arthur & Dean worked for Louie. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & they went to Decorah. Took some oats down & had them ground. I went to Club at Gladys A's. with Billie & Pauline. Quite a few out & we had a dandy lunch. Marion stayed here for supper & Mon & I took him home about 8:30. Dean went up town a little while with Richard B. Ede Walter's died tonite.

Sat. Sept. 13
Not very nice day. Rather dark & rainy looking. Rained some. We went to Decorah in P.M. I got my hair finished. Large crowd in town. We went up town awhile in eve. Walt W. came just before dinner & had dinner with us & went to Decorah & back with us. Dean went over to Blaess's & stayed all nite.

Sun. Sept. 14
Sun shone some in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Wind blew hard all day. Arthur went down to Claude's early in A.M. & he & the boys went fishing. We went up & got mama & went over to James Aasums & spent the day. Had the annual picnic. Had a grand dinner. We got home about 5:30. It rained very hard in the nite. Wind blew hard & there was a lot of thunder & lightning. Howard was over in eve. Arlin & Maxine were here awhile in eve.

Mon. Sept. 15
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Pretty warm in P.M. The boys went fishing in A.M. I went to Decorah about 10:30 with Harry & Vera Q. & the girls. We went down to the Funeral home & then over to McNamara's & had dinner. Went back to the F.H. about 12:30. Ede W's. funeral was held from there to the Lutheran church at B.O. I helped with the flowers & rode back to B.O. with Roger Bender. Beautiful flowers & so many. Very large funeral. Mon was one of the pall bearers & used our car too haul them. Arthur & Dean were up to the funeral. Howard was over in A.M. & in eve.

Tues. Sept. 16
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Mon went over to Marion's early in A.M. & didn't get back until noon. Marion came home to dinner with him. Mon, Marion & I went to Hesper in P.M. & got a cistern pump from Mr. Ellingson. The boys got a jag of corn & hauled manure. We went up town in eve. Went to the show at the Hall. "Blondie Plays Cupid". It was sure good. Large crowd out too. No one got the money. Little son born to Ruth & Ronald Webb at the Decorah Hospital.

Wed. Sept. 17
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean helped Ludwig fill silo.

Thurs. Sept. 18
Dandy nice day. Mon & Arthur went to Decorah in A.M. too get some oats ground. Dean hauled manure. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. I went to a farewell party at the M.E. church basement for Rev. Smith & family. They had a nice program & lunch & quite a few out. We got home about 11:30. Rev. Smith's are moving to Edgewood. Mon started cutting beans in P.M.

Fri. Sept. 19
Dandy nice day. Mon didn't feel very good. The men worked at the beans all day.

Sat. Sept. 20
Our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Grand day. Pretty warm. They finished cutting beans in A.M. & finished bunching them up early in P.M. Aunt Eunice, Earl, Walt Dill & Mama were here awhile late in P.M. Mon & I went to Decorah in eve to the show. "The Bride Came C.O.D." It was good. Very large crowd in town. We got home about 12. Dean went to B.O. & then on down to Breezy Hill to a shower for Mr. & Mrs. Adolph Anderson.

Sun. Sept. 21
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. Really hot. Wind blew quite hard. Dean went hunting with Arthur W. Arlin came over early in A.M. & he & Arthur went to B.O. They came back about noon & bro't some ice cream so we had a lunch & then they went over to Geo. Wernett's too see Johnnie. He is back from California with his wife, baby & grandmother. Mon & I went for a ride in P.M. Went to Canton & then Harmony then took the new road south of Harmony to Cresco from there to Protivin & Spillville, back to Decorah & home. Had a dandy ride. Arlin & Maxine were here a few minutes in eve.

Mon. Sept. 22
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean hauled manure. Mon went to B.O. in A.M.

Tues. Sept. 23
Nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean went to Mabel in A.M. Took the telephone over & had it fixed & got some repairs for the corn binder. They worked with the binder in P.M. & Mon started cutting corn about 3:30. We went up town in eve. Went to the show "Kay Kyser in You'll Find Out. Rather spooky, but it was good. No one got the money so next time it will be $30.00.

Wed. Sept. 24
Not very nice day. Rather cloudy sun didn't shine much. Quite warm until in eve the wind got around into the north & blew hard. It got much cooler. Blew hard all nite. Rained some too. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon cut corn & Dean shocked. Mon got thro' about 3 P.M. & then he went down to help Dean but Albert Emery came to put in the cistern pump so he had to come back too help. The men went down in eve after the wind came up & tied up what shocks that were set up. I went over to Pearl's a few minutes in P.M.

Thurs. Sept. 25
Pretty cool day. Not very nice. Quite windy. Mon & Arthur went to Decorah in A.M. with some oats to have ground & didn't get back until 2:30 or so. Froze quite hard tonite.

Fri. Sept. 26
Quite a nice day. Somewhat warmer. Mon & Dean finished shocking corn in A.M. The men did odd jobs in P.M. I went to Club at Lara Berg's in P.M. with Pauline. Not so many out. Had a swell lunch.

Sat. Sept. 27
Rather dark day somewhat warmer until in eve it got colder again. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean got a jag of corn in A.M. We went up & got mama after dinner & went to Decorah. I got my hair fixed. Mama came home from Decorah with us & went to B.O. after supper. I went over to Clara McCabe's & spent the eve. We got home about 11:30. Dean went down to Matter's. He saw Dana down there. He is home for a week.

Sun. Sept. 28
Rather cold day. We went up to Mama's & spent the day. Claude's & Lester's were there too.

Mon. Sept. 29
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur worked for Arlin at the rock crusher today. Started to rain in eve & rained all nite. Some times quite hard.

Tues. Sept. 30
Rather rainy & cool in A.M. but brightened up in P.M. Got some warmer. Mon & I went up to Ole's a few minutes in A.M. Bought some cabbage that Ole had got from Hollandale. Arthur worked for Louie in P.M. & Mon & Dean got a jag of corn. We went up town in eve. Went to the show at the Hall. "The Trail of the Silver Spur". It was good. Very large crowd out. Howard Quandahl got the $30.00. We got home a little after 10. Dorothy Rolfs & Ted Emmons were married this A.M.

Wed. Oct. 1
Quite a nice day but the wind was cool. Arthur worked for Louie. Arlin came along about 8 A.M. & wanted Dean to help him shock corn over on his place, so Dean went & helped him. They got back here about 2 P.M. & I got dinner for them & then they went to Decorah. Dean got back just at supper time. Mon went to B.O. awhile in P.M. Mon & I listened to the first game of the "World Series" Ball game played at N.Y. between the N.Y. Yankee's & the Brooklyn Dodgers. Yanks won 3-2.

Thurs. Oct. 2
Not very nice day. Not so bad in A.M. but started to rain in P.M. & rained quite hard at times in P.M. & eve. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean worked for Arlin at the rock crusher. Mon & I went over & got Marion about 11 & then went to B.O. Went to M.E.L.A.S. at the basement. Florence E. Muriel T. & Miriam W. entertained. Very large crowd out. Took in $27.00. Dean didn't get home until in eve. Dodgers won today 3-2.

Fri. Oct. 3
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Arthur & Dean went to Decorah in A.M. They took some oats down to have ground & Dean got a hair cut. Mon & Dean hauled manure in P.M. & Arthur did odd jobs. Arthur went to Calmar in eve too meet Ruth K. who came in on the 11:25.

Sat. Oct. 4
Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on in P.M. & eve. Sometimes it rained quite hard. The men got a jag of corn in A.M. & then Arthur went over to Krumm's. Ruth came home to dinner with him & then they went hunting in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went over & got Marion & we went to Decorah. Large crowd in town. Loyal rode home from Decorah with us & he & Marion were here for supper & went to B.O. with us in eve. Arthur went over to Krumms. Yanks won today 2-1. We had a hard storm in the nite & a cyclone struck at Gust R's & demolished all the buildings but the house, well house & hog house.

Sun. Oct. 5
Not very nice day. Dark & cold. Quite misty & damp at times. Gladys called about 4 A.M. & wanted the men to go over to Gust's & help so they went over awhile. They got back about 6:30. They did up the chores & then Mon & Dean went back & helped until about 3:30 P.M. Arthur went over to Krumm's for dinner & then he took Ruth back to Cherokee in P.M. Yanks won the ball game today 7-4.

Mon. Oct. 6
Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up & rained in P.M. Real hard sometimes too. The men didn't do much of anything. Arthur got home about 6 P.M. Had a lot of tire trouble. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in eve. Yanks won in the ball game today 3-1 & so ended the World Series. Had a hard storm again in the nite. Wind blew terribly hard & it rained terribly hard too.

Tues. Oct. 7
Nice bright day but terribly windy & rather cool. The men got a jag of corn in A.M. Arthur helped Louie in P.M. & Dean helped Howard awhile in P.M. Mon went over to Marion's awhile in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Went to the show. "A Little Bit of Heaven". It was good. Not quite such a large crowd. Dean got the $10.00. We got home about 11. I sold 40 old hens & 4 old roosters today. Old hens weighed 145 @ .11. 15.95. Old roosters weighed 16 @ .08. 1.25. Brought $17.23. Jim Murdock got them.

Grand day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean did odd jobs early in A.M. & then dug & picked up potatoes. I went to B.O. about 10:45 with Kate L. to the Lutheran L.A.S. dinner & sale. Had a grand dinner & a good crowd. Got home about 5. Arthur went to Bluffton a few minutes in eve. Florence & Albert went to Iowa City today & bro't Aunt Alice home. She is quite a lot better.

Thurs. Oct. 9
Looked quite rainy early in A.M. & was rather damp. Cleared off about noon & was nice in P.M. but quite windy & cool. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed in P.M. & ironed some in eve. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. Richard B. was here in A.M.

Fri. Oct. 10
Quite a nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. The men got a jag of corn in A.M. I ironed & scrubbed in A.M. Mon took Dean up to the crusher at noon too help Arlin this P.M. I went along up to Ole's & then on to B.O. with Gladys & Ole. Gladys & I rode to Club at Hazel Bucknell's with Anita. Quite a few out. Had a nice lunch. I rode home from B.O. with Mon. Ole & Clifford Mc. rode home with us too. Mon did up some chores & then went up & got Dean.

Sat. Oct. 11
Dandy day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean went up & helped Arlin awhile early in A.M. & then they came back & Maxine, Bernice, Arlin & Dean went to La Crosse & spent the day. They got back here about 7:30. Mon went over to Marions in A.M. & got him & bro't him over here. He had dinner with us & then we went to Decorah. Very large crowd in town. Marion came home to supper with us & then went up town with us. Dean went to B.O. with Arlin then on to Breezy Hill with Leonard B. Arthur went to Decorah. Arlin bro't Mon & I home about 10:30. Cold nite.

Sun. Oct. 12
Grand day. Arthur went fishing. Arlin came over in A.M. & then he went over to Marions with Mon & Dean. They went over to Arlin's place & down to Bluffton too. They got back here some after 1 & then I got dinner. Arlin stayed until about 4. Dean went hunting in P.M. but didn't get anything. Arthur got a few fish.

Mon. Oct. 13
Not very nice day. Rather dark all day. Not cold though. Started to sprinkle about 4 P.M. & kept it up & got harder. Rained quite hard in eve. Quite a bit of lightning. Wind switched to the north in the nite & blew terribly hard for a while & got colder. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean got a jag of corn in A.M. & Mon started plowing in P.M. Arthur went out for awhile in eve.

Tues. Oct. 14
Quite a nice day. Cool. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. Dean plowed all day. We went to B.O. in eve to the show. "Who Killed Aunt Maggie". It was pretty good. Good crowd. No one got the money. Got home about 10.

Wed. Oct. 15
Nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean finished plowing in A.M. & he shelled old corn in P.M. Mon & I went to Decorah in A.M. Took some oats down & had them ground. I got my hair fixed. We got home about 1.

Thurs. Oct. 16
Nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean shelled corn in A.M. & finished up after we got back from B.O. in P.M. Mon took me to B.O. about 9:30 A.M. The M.E.L.A.S. had their Oyster dinner in the basement. Elsie, Miriam & I cooked oysters. Quite a crowd out. Took in over $40. Mon & Dean came up for dinner & waited for me in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went back to B.O. in eve to a dance for the I.O.O.F. at the Hall. Nice crowd out & had a good time. Geo Williams, Edith Tillinghast & Hovey played. Good music. We got home about 1:30. Isa & Lester were here awhile in late P.M. & Richard B. in eve. Arthur went to Bluffton in eve.

Fri. Oct. 17
Nice early in A.M. but clouded up & misted & rained. Rained quite hard late in P.M. & eve. Arthur worked for Louie. Dean husked corn. Mon hauled cobs over to the milk house & did some painting. He went out & helped Dean husk corn late in P.M.

Sat. Oct. 18
Not too nice a day & not too bad. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & we went to Decorah a little after 11. I went to the Show in P.M. "Wild Geese Calling". It was sure good. Very large crowd in town. We got home about 5. Arthur Walter rode home with us too. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Arthur went to Decorah with Arlin & Maxine.

Sun. Oct. 19
Grand day. Quite warm. Arlin was here awhile early in A.M. Arthur went fishing all day & got some nice ones. Dean went hunting. Rained hard in the nite.

Mon. Oct. 20
Rained off & on in A.M. awhile. Was dark all day & damp. We went up town about 10:30. I went up to mama's. The men came up for dinner. We came home about 3. Howard was over in eve.

Tues. Oct. 21
Not very nice in A.M. rather misty & damp at times but cleared off & was very nice in P.M. The men got a jag of corn in A.M. Arthur worked for Louie in P.M. Dean hauled manure. Mon & I went to Prosper right after dinner for a little while. We went to B.O. in eve to the Show. Very large crowd & a good show. "Riding On a Rainbow". Gene Autry. Got home about 10:00. Little daughter born to Pearl & Howard this P.M. I had Sonny here & then the girls after school for awhile. Had a little calf today.

Wed. Oct. 22
Not such a nice day. Damp in A.M. Sprinkled some. Started to rain about noon & kept it up the most of the P.M. Arthur went over to Louie's but didn't work all day. Mon & Dean didn't do anything much. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. with Kate L. for dinner. Mrs. Elmer Kimber, Mrs. Herman McMullen & Mrs. Loftsgarden entertained. Had a good dinner & a good crowd. I went over to Pearls in A.M. They have a dandy nice fat girl.

Thurs. Oct. 23
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. I washed & ironed. Lloyd K. was down early in A.M. & bought our sows. Mon & Dean went to Prosper & then on to Mabel. They got back just at noon. Dean picked a load of corn in P.M. & Mon went to B.O. I went over to Pearl's awhile late in P.M.
14 sows weighed 4060 lbs. @ $9.00 per cwt. & bro't $365.40. Darrell Rollins hauled them.

Fri. Oct. 24
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean helped Gust all day. He had a "Bee" getting the hay out of the barn. I went to Club at Anita's in P.M. with Pauline L. We rode over from B.O. with Miriam. Quite a few out. Had a swell lunch.

Sat. Oct. 25
Dandy nice day. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah early in A.M. too get some oats ground. Mon got his hair cut. We got home about 11 & had dinner & then Mon & I went to B.O. about 12:30. Stopped & got Mrs. Krumm. We went to Will Delay's funeral at the M.E. church. Mrs. K. & I sang "Rock of Ages" & "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere". Only a few out. We went up to mama's awhile afterward. Aunt Eunice, Uncle Albert, Vin, Earl, Wilma, Bonnie & a niece Laura came up for the funeral & were up there. We got home about 3. Dean doesn't feel a bit well. Too much dirt yesterday. Mon & I went to B.O. in eve. Got home about 11:30. Rained sometime in the nite.

Sun. Oct. 26
Not very nice day. Sprinkled all P.M. & sometimes rained. Had quite a rain in the nite & the wind blew terribly hard. Arthur went fishing in P.M. Got some nice ones. Dean felt a little better today but not too good. Arlin was here in P.M.

Mon. Oct. 27
Nice bright day but terribly windy & cold. North wind. We all went to Decorah in P.M. Quite a crowd down there. Mon got a new leather jacket, mackinaw & lined jacket & Dean got a short mackinaw & a hat. I got a sack of sugar. $6.09. Isa rode home from Decorah with us. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. He feels much better today. Froze hard tonite. Froze the ground.

Tues. Oct. 28
Nice bright day. Warmer than yesterday. I washed & ironed. The men husked corn. I went over to Pearl's awhile in P.M. We went to B.O. in eve to the show. Two shows tonite on account of the crowd. We went to the second show. No one got the money so next time it will be $40. We got home about 11:30. Deanna Durbin in "Spring Parade" was the play.

Wed. Oct. 29
Not very nice day. Dark & cold. Mon & Arthur helped Ray H. shred & I helped Bernice cook for the men. Lizzie came up at noon. She has a bad cold. Got thro' over there about 3. Dean helped Gust until about 2 P.M. After we got home from Ray's the boys got a jag of corn.

Not very nice day. Misty & damp. The men husked corn.

Fri. Oct. 31
Sprinkled some times in A.M. & about noon it started to rain & kept it up all P.M. & eve. Rained very hard at times in P.M. & all eve. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah in P.M. I got my hair fixed.

Sat. Nov. 1
Rained in A.M. some & was cold. Quit raining about noon but it was dark all P.M. until late it cleared off & was a lovely eve but pretty cold. Arthur went over to Marion's in A.M. Mon took me to B.O. about 2 P.M. The Joan of Arc had their annual Oyster supper at the M.E. Church basement in eve. Elsie, Miriam & I cooked oysters. Had a pretty good crowd. Took in over $50 & cleared about [blank]. We got home about 11. Had our first snow flurries this A.M.

Dandy nice bright day. Cool though. Arthur went hunting with Wimpie. Got 5 squirrels. Dean went over to Howards & then over to Mike B's. Arlin & Maxine were here awhile in eve.

Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. The men husked corn. I went over to Pearl's a few minutes in P.M.

Tues. Nov. 4
Rather dark day. Started to rain in eve & kept it up until rather late. Turned to snow in the nite. Arthur helped Arlin stack corn fodder. Mon & Dean husked corn. Arlin was here for supper. Arthur, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve to the Show. Very large crowd to the shows. They had two shows too take care of the crowd. The show was fine "Baby Sandy" in "Sandy Gets Her Man". Leonard Donlan got the $40.00. I sold 25 young roosters to Jim Murdock this P.M. 25 weighed 88 lbs. @ .11¢ per lb. & bro't $9.68.

Wed. Nov. 5
Not such a nice day. Pretty dark. Ground was white with snow when we got up this A.M. but the snow was all gone by nite. Arthur helped Arlin again today. They finished stacking the fodder. Arlin was here for supper & stayed & spent the eve. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. about 11 A.M. I went to Lutheran L.A.S. at the church basement for dinner. Mrs. Rev. Thompson, Mrs. Andrew Scott & Mrs. Valentine Stoskoff entertained. They had a dandy dinner. Not so many out tho'. I went up to mama's in P.M. Charlotte & Jerome McCabe were there part of the time too.

Quite a bright day but the wind blew quite hard & cool. The men husked corn. Howard was here awhile late in P.M.

Fri. Nov. 7
Sun shone part of the time & part of the time it was rather dark & looked stormy. Snowed some late in P.M. Quite windy & cold. Roy helped the men in A.M. & they stacked the corn fodder. The men husked in P.M. I went to Club at Dorothy Emmon's in P.M. with Pauline L. Quite a few out. Had a good lunch.

Sat. Nov. 8
Cold day. Not very nice. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & we went to Decorah about 11:30. Quite a few in town. Arthur got a hair cut. I went to the Show. Jack Benny in "Charleys Aunt." It was sure good. Marion came home to supper with us & then we went up town in eve. Got home about 11.

Sun. Nov. 9
Sun shone some & it was a little warmer. Mon & the boys went over to Walt R's. in A.M. & then we went down to Claude's & spent the day. Had a good visit. They combined their beans in P.M. Arlin was here awhile late in P.M.

Mon. Nov. 10
Cold dark day. The men finished husking about 3 P.M. & then they hauled straw & put in the cellar way. Sam Cassel had a sale but no one from here went. Too cold.

Tues. Nov. 11
Nicer day. Somewhat warmer. Brightened up about noon & the sun shone all P.M. Dean started husking for John Carolan Jr. Mon & Arthur put dirt around the house early in A.M. & then Arlin came & Arthur went over to his place with him & Mon went to Prosper. Arthur & Arlin got back here in time for dinner & then Arthur went & helped Arlin some in P.M. moving the crusher. Mon & I went to Decorah in P.M. Got some feed ground. I wanted to get my hair fixed but everything was closed. We went to B.O. in eve to the show. "Father Steps Out". It was good. Got home about 11. Fred Hageman died suddenly this A.M.

Wed. Nov. 12
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur went hunting for pheasants in P.M. but didn't get any. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. Dean husked for John today. Little son born to Shirley & Darwin Christopher.

Thurs. Nov. 13
Quite a nice day. Dean husked for John. Arthur plowed. Mon took me to B.O. about 10 A.M. The M.E.L.A.S. had their annual Dinner & Sale at the church today. Large crowd out. Had a good dinner. Miriam & I sold tickets & clerked the sale. Took in over $154.32. Mon came up & got me in P.M. Got home about 5.

Quite a nice day. Dean husked for John. Arthur plowed in A.M. & helped Louie in P.M. I washed windows & storm windows in A.M. & Mon put on storm windows. He plowed in P.M. Finished that piece.

Sat. Nov. 15
Not too bad a day. Looked rainy at times but didn't rain. Sun shone some. Dean husked for John. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. We had a lunch & then went to Decorah. Arthur went hunting but didn't get anything. Large crowd in town. I got my hair fixed. Marion came home to supper with us & then all but Arthur went to B.O. in eve. Dean went on down to Matter's with John. They gave away a tractor down there. We got home about 11. Howard & Allen rode home with us. We took Marion home.

Beautiful day. Dean went with Art W. in A.M. We all went to Marions & spent the day. Albert's were there too. Had a good dinner & a good time. The boys went hunting in P.M. Arthur didn't stay very long though. They didn't get anything. Jen Halse died this eve. Little son born to Wilma & Walter Barth today.

Mon. Nov. 17
Beautiful day. I washed & ironed. Dean husked for John. Mon & Arthur stacked beans. Mama, Isa & Neva were here awhile late in P.M. Dean went over to Art W's. in eve awhile. Today was the warmest day on record at Des Moines for this time of the year.

Tues. Nov. 18
Nice & sunny in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & looked quite rainy but it didn't rain. Nice & warm but mighty windy. Dean husked for John. Mon & Arthur stacked beans. They finished about the middle of the P.M. & then Arthur hauled some manure. We all went to B.O. in eve. Went to the Show. "Buck Privates". It was pretty good. No one got the money so next time it will be $20. We got home about 11:30.

Not very nice day. Rained quite hard at times in A.M. Quit raining after dinner but it was windy & cold. Mon & the boys went to B.O. awhile in A.M. Jen Halse was buried at B.O. this P.M.

Cold day & rather dark. Quite windy. Dean husked corn for John. Arthur helped Arlin in A.M. He got home about noon. Mon bought 200 bu. of corn of John C. @ .70 per bu. & he hauled 2 loads of it today.

Nice bright day. Not quite so cold. Dean husked for John. Arthur helped Arlin. Mon hauled corn from John's. I went over to Pearls a little while in P.M. Arthur Smith was here for dinner.

Sat. Nov. 22
Nice & bright in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & got colder & windy. John got a corn picker up there today & finished getting his corn out. Dean helped up there unloading. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & we went to Decorah. Went up & got mama & she went along too. Large crowd in town. Mama came home to supper with us. Mon went up & got Dean about 6:30 P.M. We went to B.O. in eve. Got home about 11. Jim Murdock got the rest of the young roosters this A.M. I got .10¢ per lb. & they bro't $13.40. Mighty cold nite.

Quite a nice day. Mon & Dean went over to Marion's in A.M. Arthur went hunting in P.M. but didn't get anything. Arlin was here awhile in eve. Cold nite.

Mon. Nov. 24
Dandy nice day. I washed & did most of the ironing. The men hauled the wagon up to John C's., behind Arthurs car, in A.M. & got the rest of the corn Mon bought. John hauled it down with the tractor. 2 loads. They got back here about 12. John was here for dinner. The boys cleaned the hen house in P.M. & hauled out manure. Mon, Dean & I went over to Fred Walter's in eve. He got beer & invited in those he threshed for. Some others were there too. Played cards. Got home about 1. Arthur W. was here awhile early in eve.

Tues. Nov. 25
Dandy nice day. Mon & the boys went to B.O. in P.M. I finished ironing. We went up town in the eve. Went to the show. "Adam Had Four Sons". It was good. Went to the first show so we got home about 10. Bill Erickson & Ole Albertson were here in A.M. renewing our insurance. Wilma Harvey & Gerald Thorson were married today.

Wed. Nov. 26
Dandy nice day. Arthur & Dean took our car & went to Decorah in A.M. Mon took me to B.O. about 11 with Arthurs car & I went from there to Edna Master's Sale with Albert & Florence. The Joan of Arc served the lunch. Did pretty good. Rode back to B.O. with Billie & Pauline. Arthur went too meet Ruth K. in eve & Dean went to B.O. to a dance.

Thanksgiving day. Beautiful day. Nice & warm. We went up to mama's & spent the day. Claude's, Lesters, Dells, Aunt Lissa, Uncle Geo & Wes Mount were there too. Had a good dinner. Claude's bro't a turkey. It was good. Arthur went over to Krumm's in eve.

Fri. Nov. 28
Grand day. Arthur helped Arlin all day. Mon & I dressed a duck in A.M. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah in P.M. Very large crowd in town. Arthur went over to Krumms in eve. The warmest day on record at Des Moines for this time of the year.

Sat. Nov. 29
Not such a nice day. Damp & cloudy. Not cold though. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. He & Dean took Marion to B.O. in P.M. Arthur went over & got Ruth about 3 P.M. & she was here for supper & until about 8:30. We had roast duck for supper.

Not very nice day. Rather dark. Not cold though. Dean went with Art W. in A.M. & then by himself, hunting in P.M. Arthur went over to Krumms for dinner & then took Ruth to Decorah so she could go back to her school with the bunch she came home with. He got back here about 2 & then Leonard & Marvin came & they went hunting. Came back with 4 big jack rabbits. L. & M. stayed for supper & the boys took them home after chores. Earl, Wilma, Bonnie, Aunt Lissa & Mr. & Mrs. Teason were here awhile in P.M.

Not such a nice day. Dark & damp. Didn't do too much. Lester Bronner was here awhile in eve. Roscoe Dawley was married today to Miss Gabrielson.

Very warm day. Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Harold Bronner came down this A.M. & started plowing. The men did odd jobs. We went to B.O. in eve. Went to the show. Gene Autry in "Back In the Saddle". It was good. Large crowd. No one got the money. Got home about 11. Mighty foggy when we came home.

Wed. Dec. 3
Dandy nice day but a strong south wind. Harold B. was here & plowed. He finished about 4 P.M. Arthur plowed for Roy Halse. Mon & Dean went over to Marion's in A.M. & he came home with them for dinner & then they butchered in P.M.

Thurs. Dec. 4
Quite a nice day but strong south wind again today. Arthur helped Louie in A.M. & plowed for Roy in P.M. Mon & I went to Decorah in A.M. Took the hog down to be cut up & put in the locker. I got my hair fixed. Mon & I went up to Leonard Gossman's in eve to a farewell party for them. They are moving up by Preston. Very large crowd. We got home about 11:45.

Fri. Dec. 5
Much colder day. Wind in the N.W. & blowing hard all day. Sprinkled & snowed some early in A.M. but was nice & bright in P.M. Mon & Dean took Dorothy S. & I too Club at Florence E's. Quite a few out. Had a grand lunch. We rode back to B.O. with Miriam W. Ole & Calvin rode home with us from B.O.

Sat. Dec. 6
Quite a nice day. Marion came over in A.M. & we had an early dinner & all went to Decorah. I went to the Show. Bob Hope & Paulette Goddard in "Nothing But the Truth". It was sure good. Very large crowd in town. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Miriam W. & I worked on the Ladies Aid books. Howard & Allen rode home with Mon & I. We got home about 10:30. Dean came later.

Sun. Dec. 7
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Started to rain about 4 P.M. & then it turned to snow. The wind got around in the north in eve & it got quite a lot colder. The boys went hunting but didn't get anything. Arlin & Howard were here in P.M. & Howard again in eve. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor & other places over there & declared war on the U.S. today.

Mon. Dec. 8
Cold windy day. Didn't do much of anything. Mon & the boys went to B.O. & to Marions in A.M. Dean went over to Howard's in P.M. U.S. declared war on Japan today.

Tues. Dec. 9
Very nice day until late in P.M. the wind changed to the north & blew hard & got real cold. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean hauled up cord wood in P.M. I washed & ironed. Miriam W. was here awhile late in P.M. We went up town in eve to the show. "Friendly Neighbors". It was good. Wayne Kern got the $35.00 & Bryce Emery & Mrs. Floyd Kipp got the two turkeys. We got home about 11.

Wed. Dec. 10
Cold day & quite windy. Mon went over to Marion's in P.M. & on to Prosper. The boys hauled up a little wood in P.M.

Thurs. Dec. 11
Not so bad in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. Started too snow lightly about 4 P.M. & kept it up all nite. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. about 11:30 A.M. I went to L.A.S. at the basement. Babe Foltz, Valeda Wilbur & Em Allen entertained. Quite a large crowd & a good dinner. Election of officers & I got the Sec. job again. Dean went to Walter's in eve with Fritz to a V.F.W. dance. Mon went to B.O. We put the pullets in the hen house tonite. I got the first pullet egg today. Dave was here awhile in A.M.

Fri. Dec. 12
Snowed off & on all day lightly. Not cold. Mon & the boys went over to Marion's in A.M. & brought the young stock home from there. They hauled in hay & straw in P.M.

Sat. Dec. 13
Quite a nice day but cold. We went to Decorah about noon & Lizzie C. went with us. Very large crowd in town. Santa Clause was in town. We got home about 5. Didn't go up town in eve. Arlin was here & visited with Mon about 10:30. The rest of us were in bed.

Sun. Dec. 14
Beautiful day but cool. Arlin came early in A.M. & Arthur went over to his other place with him. They came back here about 1 & then Arlin went & got Maxine & bro't her up here. They stayed until about 4:30. Mon & Dean went to B.O. awhile in A.M. & then Dean went over to Howard's awhile. Howard was here awhile late in P.M.

Not very nice day. Dark all day. Not so cold though. Arthur worked for Louie. Mon & Dean finished hauling up the cordwood in P.M.

Tues. Dec. 16
Not very nice early in A.M. Rained until about 10 A.M. but cleared off then & was a grand day. Nice & warm. Mon went over & got Marion just before dinner. Milo Good sawed our wood in P.M. Howard helped too. Mon took Marion home about 4. We went up town in eve to the show. Not so many out. It was good. The Trail of the Vigilanties. No one got the money. We got home about 11. Marion rode up & back with us.

Wed. Dec. 17
Nice day but quite windy. Arthur worked for Arlin up at the crusher. Mon & Dean helped Gilbert saw wood. Mon came home at noon & Dean stayed until nite. They didn't finish then. I washed & ironed. Mon put the ventilator on the hen house in P.M.

Thurs. Dec. 18
Dandy nice day. Arthur helped Arlin. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & then we went to Decorah. Mama & Isa went with us from Aunt Lissa's. I got my hair fixed. I stopped at Stella Halse's on the way home for Club. Quite a few out. Had election of officer's. Agnes Wicks Pres. Lenora L. V. Pres. Velda Kess Sec., Violet U. Treas. Had a swell lunch. Rode up to the 4 corners with Anita & on home from there with Pauline.

Quite a nice day. Arthur helped Arlin. Mon went to Decorah in A.M. I went up to the school house in P.M. with Gladys to the Xmas program. They had a good program. Mr. & Mrs. K. bro't me home. Arthur went to Calmar in eve too meet Ruth.

Sat. Dec. 20
Nice bright day but the wind was cold. We went to Decorah in A.M. Very large crowd in town. We went to B.O. awhile in eve. Arthur went over to Krumm's. Dean went down to Breezy Hill to a shower for Mike & Ida Noecker.

Sun. Dec. 21
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & was dark but didn't storm. Claude's Lester's & Mama were here & spent the day. Had a picnic dinner. Leonard, Marion, Marvin & Dean went down to Bluffton in P.M. & got some Xmas trees. Arlin was here for supper.

Mon. Dec. 22
Not very nice day. Dark & damp. Started to rain about 4 P.M. & rained hard for awhile. Arthur went over to Krumms in A.M. & Mon & Dean went to B.O. awhile. Didn't do too much.

Tues. Dec. 23
Not very nice day. Rained most of the day. Sometimes quite hard. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & we all, but Dean, went to Decorah in P.M. Large crowd in town. Went to B.O. in eve to the Show in eve. The "Roar of the Press". Not too bad. No one got the money. Inez & Brayton W. & [blank] got the turkeys. Ruth went up town with us & she & Arthur went home as soon as the show was over & Mon, Dean & I rode home with Roy & Bernice. Got home about 11.

Wed. Dec. 24
Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off & was very nice in P.M. Arthur went to Decorah in A.M. He went over & got Ruth in P.M. & they & Dean trimmed the Xmas tree & then we all made candy. Arthur & Ruth went to B.O. to the Xmas program with his car & Mon & I went up town in our car. I went to the program. It was sure fine. Very large crowd out. Got home about 9:30.

Thurs. Dec. 25
Not very nice day. Misty & damp & quite icy. Mon went over & got mama in morning. Lester's came down & spent the day too. Arthur took mama home about 4 P.M. He & Ruth went to Decorah in eve to the Show. Howard was over & spent the eve. Started to snow about 8:30.

Fri. Dec. 26
Not very nice day. Regular blizzard early in A.M. but let up snowing some in P.M. Not so cold though. Arthur went over to Louie's too work this A.M. Louie went to Oklahoma this noon & Arthur is to stay there & do the work. Dean & I went to B.O. in eve with Bernice, Roy & Lizzie. We women went to the Lutheran Xmas program & tree. It was nice. Dean got a hair cut. We got home about 9:30.

Sat. Dec. 27
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a very nice day. Arthur was home a few minutes in A.M. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in P.M. I went over to Mrs. Emmon's to a party for Lucile. (She & her husband are here for a few days). Mrs. E. had some of the girls who went to school with Lucile in for the P.M. Had a nice lunch & a good visit. Cold nite.

Sun. Dec. 28
Not too bad a day. Mon, Dean & I went up to Lester's & spent the day. Claude's & mama were there too celebrating Isa's birthday. Had a good dinner. Mary Leonhart died this A.M. early.

Mon. Dec. 29
Mighty cold & frosty early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. I washed. Dean worked with the team all day hauling in straw & hay & hauling out manure. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. Arthur & Ruth were over in eve.

Tues. Dec. 30
Not very nice day. Snowed most of the day. Not cold though. Arthur was home a few minutes in A.M. Arlin was here in A.M. too. Mon & I went to Decorah about 11:30. I got my hair fixed. We went to Maxine & Arlin's wedding at the M.E. Church at Decorah at 3 P.M. Only a very few there but it was a very nice wedding. We got home about 5. Went to B.O. in eve to the show. "Blondie Goes Latin". Quite a few out & a good show. No one got the money Gust Rehwinkel's name was called but he wasn't there.

Wed. Dec. 31
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Got colder in P.M. Mon & I went to Mary Leonhart's funeral in P.M. 1:30 at the house & then at the church at Bluffton. Quite a few at the house & the church was full. Nellie Aaby & I rode to Bluffton with Rev. Thompson. Mon hauled the pall bearers. He was one too. I rode to B.O. to the cemetry & back with Roy's. Dean went to B.O. in eve. Arthur came over after supper & got our car & he & Ruth went to Decorah to the show. He kept our car over there.
