Fri. Jan. 1
Cloudy, cold day. We went up home & spent the day. Marie was there too. We got home about 4:30. Did up the chores & then went back too B.O. to an Odd Fellows dance. Not such a large crowd but they had a good time. Leonard & Grace Gossman & Frank O'Brien played. They were sure good. Got home about 2.

Sat. Jan. 2
Snowed almost all day. Quite warm. Mon & the boys went to Decorah & took the old Chevrolet down to Bradley. They got back about 4 P.M. Quite a lot of snow fell. Got much colder in eve & the wind came up quite a lot.

Sun. Jan. 3
Nice day but cold & windy. Didn't do much of anything.

Mon. Jan. 4
Nice day. Quite warm until late in P.M. it got much colder & the wind blew quite a bit. I washed in A.M. Mon, Arthur & I went to B.O. in P.M. Dean went up to Red's. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Tues. Jan. 5
Nice day but mighty cold. Ironed & did a little of everything. Mon went over to Howards a little while late in P.M.

Wed. Jan. 6
Warm day. Sleeted some. Misty too. Did a little of everything. Everything covered with ice. Pretty slippery in P.M. & eve.

Thur. Jan. 7
Rather cloudy day. Chilly. Mon & Arthur went up to Red's a few minutes in A.M. We went to B.O. in P.M. Went past Harold S's & Dorothy went along with us & then Mon took us up to Miriam W's too Club. Quite a few out in spite of the slippery roads. Had a swell lunch. New officers took office. We got home about 5. Mon & Arthur went too Lodge in eve. Started to snow in eve & kept it up most of the nite. Quite a bit of snow fell.

Fri. Jan. 8
Not very nice early in A.M. Regular blizzard for awhile. Cleared off in P.M. & was very nice in P.M. & nite. Cold. Didn't do much of anything.

Sat. Jan. 9
20º this morn, but still. No wind. Dandy nice day. Warmed up quite a lot after the sun came up. I scrubbed in A.M. & then we drove the team too B.O. Got up home about 1. Had lunch up there. Red rode up to B.O. with us. Got home about 5. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sun. Jan. 10
Nice day. Didn't do much of anything. We were alone all day.

Mon. Jan. 11
Dandy nice day. Mon & the boys did chores most of the A.M. & Mon & Arthur went to Decorah in P.M. Didn't get home until about 5:30. I washed & ironed.

Tues. Jan. 12
Dandy nice day. We got up early & did up all the chores & left here about 9 for Ruth & Francis'. Got there about 10:40. Had a good visit while we were there. Left there about 3. Stopped in Decorah a few minutes. Got home about 4:45. Roads & paving pretty slippery but we didn't have any trouble. Mon, Arthur & Fritz went to Decorah too Lodge in eve. The brown cow had a calf today.

Wed. Jan. 13
Nasty, misty, gloomy day. Harry Q. was here awhile in A.M. also Pearl. We went up home about noon. Not very good visibility. Got colder in the nite.

Thurs. Jan. 14
Nice cold day. Got pretty cold in eve. Didn't do too much. The men didn't go too Lodge in eve.

Fri. Jan. 15
Nice day. Did a little of everything & not much of anything. The white faced heifer had a calf today.

Sat. Jan. 16
Nice day. South wind & it was a little chilly. I scrubbed in A.M. & then we went up town. The boys & I went up home for dinner. Got home about 5. Red rode home with us. Dean didn't feel very good tonite. The Jersey heifer had a calf today. Mon went up town in eve.

Sun. Jan. 17
Nice day. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur went to Decorah in eve to the movie "Gold Diggers of 1937." Dean has the mumps I guess. His face is swollen pretty much. Audry & Maxine came over in eve but didn't stop on account of the mumps.

Mon. Jan. 18
Nice day, but pretty cold. I washed. Dean doesn't feel bad but his face is swollen pretty much.

Tues. Jan. 19
Nice day. Mon & Arthur did quite a bit of extra chores around today. I ironed. Dean is pretty good. Wind blew hard from the south all nite. Snowed some in the nite.

Wed. Jan. 20
Sleeted & snowed off & on most of the day. Not so cold, but nasty too be out. We listened to the Inaguration of Pres. Roosevelt today. The services & parades lasted from 10:30 A.M. until 2 P.M. Dean feels good.

Thurs. Jan. 21
Nice day, but cold. Mon & I went to B.O. with the team about 11 A.M. The boys stayed at home. I stopped at Elsie S's. She had Club today. Quite a few out in spite of the cold & roads. (Roads were somewhat drifted in some places but not bad.) Had a swell lunch. Got home about 5:30. Ed D. rode home with us & stayed for supper. Mon & Arthur didn't go to Lodge. Too cold.

Fri. Jan. 22
22 or 23º below this A.M. Dave & Charley W. were here awhile in A.M. Arthur went up after the mail in P.M. I.O.O.F. had a Dance at the Hall tonite but it was so cold we didn't go. They broke out the roads for cars today.

Sat. Jan. 23
18º below. Nice day but cold. I scrubbed the floors in A.M. & then Audry came over & we all went to Decorah, but Dean. (He is feeling fine). Tom D. rode to Decorah with us from Aunt Lissa's. Large crowd in town. Saw Ruth just after we got down there so Audry & I were with her all the time we were down town. Got home about 5.

Sun. Jan. 24
Snowed hard early in A.M. & was cloudy & dark almost all day. Sun shone a little while in P.M. Nice bright eve too. We all went to Ruth & Francis today. Left here at 10:45 & got there about 11:50. Mon's & Francis birthdays. Sure had a swell feed. Angel food cake, roast duck & chicken & lots of other good things. Got home about 4:45. Ed D. was here a minute in P.M. He got stuck with his saw rig & Mon & Arthur went & hauled it up here with the horse. Mag had a calf today.

Mon. Jan. 25
Nice bright day but cold. Snowed drifted all day. Mon hauled cars out of the snow drifts. He took Kate & O'Dean home from Howards.

Tues. Jan. 26
Not so very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. but cold. I washed. Dave was here in A.M.

Wed. Jan. 27
Dandy nice day. Somewhat warmer. We went up home for dinner. Got home about 5. Dean feels good. The swelling is almost all gone. He was out & helped some with the chores today. The snow plow went over our road while we were up town but they didn't do such a good job where the snow was drifted so much.

Thurs. Jan. 28
Dandy nice day. Warmer. Howard was here in A.M. & Dave in P.M. The boys cleaned out the calf pens & hauled in corn fodder. Arthur went to Lodge in eve. Mon didn't feel very well so he didn't go.

Fri. Jan. 29
Not such a bad day. Mon felt better today. Howard was here about suppertime.

Sat. Jan. 30
Snowed & was quite warm in A.M. but got quite a bit colder in P.M. & eve. Mon & Dean went to B.O. with the team. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sun. Jan. 31
Nice day. But quite cold. The boys went down to the creek in A.M. skating but there was too much snow. Ed D. was here for dinner. Arthur W. was here a few minutes in eve & then Dean went over to Howards with him. Howard was over a couple of times today.

Mon. Feb. 1
Nice day but pretty cold. Didn't do much of anything.

Tues. Feb. 2
Nice day. Quite cold in A.M. early but warmed up later. I washed & did most of the ironing too. Howard was here in A.M. Red bro't the mules home about noon & was here for dinner. The boys & Howard & Arthur were out & shoveled roads in P.M. The big snow plow came past here at 9:45 P.M. & they sure plowed out the road. Tommy Knox & Frances Wicks were married this A.M. The jersey cow had a calf today.

Wed. Feb. 3
Cloudy day. We went to B.O. about 11 A.M. with the car. Audry came over & went up with us. Mon, Arthur, Dean & Papa went to Decorah a little while in P.M. Roy Broghammer put a heater in our car today. They had a shower for Tommy & Frances at the Hall in eve but it snowed too much, we didn't go.

Thurs. Feb. 4
Nice, cold day. Snow drifted all day. Mon took me up to Club at Inez W's. in A.M. & then he went on to B.O. (We went with the team). Quite a crowd out too Club & she sure had a swell lunch. We got home about 5. In some places the road was nearly drifted full.

Fri. Feb. 5
Nice day but cold. Didn't do much of anything. Mon & Arthur took some corn fodder over to Dave in P.M.

Sat. Feb. 6
Not very nice day. Snowy. Got colder in P.M. Mon walked too B.O. in A.M. & rode home with Dave in P.M. Dean was over to Dave's in eve.

Sun. Feb. 7
Nasty day. Rained & sleeted most of the day. Everything covered with ice. Dust was flying in the air in P.M. & nite. Uncle Aaron came over in A.M. & spent the day & nite. Tom D. was here for dinner too. Gust & Howard were here in A.M. Gust got some oats. Howard was here in P.M. too.

Mon. Feb. 8
My 45th Birthday. Sun shone part of the time. Snow blew too in P.M. Dust was blowing in the air too. Dean went over to Mart's early in A.M. & didn't get back until P.M. We went up home about noon. Uncle Aaron went up there with us & then rode back down to the corner with us & went down to Aunt Lissa's. Rather blustery when we came home. Howard was over in eve awhile.

Tues. Feb. 9
Cold day again & blustery. Quite a bad day. Didn't do much of anything. Mart L. was here most of the A.M. Dean was over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Feb. 10
About 20º below this A.M. early but it warmed up during the day some. Was pretty nice most of the day but was quite blustery for awhile in P.M. late. I washed & ironed. The men did a little of everything. A snow plow came up from Bluffton in P.M. but the snow was too deep down the hill east of the house so they couldn't get thro'. They had to back, back to the house too turn around too get out. A man came up thro' about 5 P.M. & tried to get thro' & couldn't so the folks had to go with the team & haul him out. They got $1.00 for it. Little son born to Margaret & Walter Ward today.

Thurs. Feb. 11
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Thawed a lot. The snow settled quite a bit. Did a little of everything. Geo. Burgess was buried at Bluffton today. Had another little calf tonite.

Fri. Feb. 12
Nice most of the day. Rather cloudy at times. Thawed a lot again today. Mon helped Fritz saw wood most of the day. The boys took a jag of corn fodder up to the folks today. Ike Gates died this A.M.

Sat. Feb. 13
Cloudy part of the day. Thawed quite a lot in A.M. Got colder late in P.M. Just about like a March day later in P.M. Sun shone awhile & then a regular blizzard. Pretty windy & blustery in the night. Some of the men of the neighborhood shoveled out the road so we could get thro' with the cars. We went to Decorah. Ed & Jessie D. went with us. Dean went to B.O. I went up to Dr. F's & got another liver shot. Large crowd in town. We went to B.O. a few minutes on our way home & got Dean. Jessie stayed in B.O. Ed was here for supper. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Sun. Feb. 14
Quite a blizzard early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Didn't do much of anything. We were alone all day.

Mon. Feb. 15
Not such a nice day. Not so cold. Snowed off & on a little in A.M. & quite hard in P.M. Got colder later in P.M. & blew harder snowed drifted some. We went up home in A.M. Arthur took Mama, Papa & I up to the church after dinner to Ike Gates' funeral. We practiced at Prust's before the funeral. Mr. K., Philip, Florence & I sang Louise N. played & sang too. We sang "Rock of Ages", "The Old Rugged Cross" & "Abide With Me." Large crowd out. The big caterpillar snow plow came up thro' between 6 & 7 P.M. Howard was over awhile in eve. Dean was over there.

Tues. Feb. 16
Dandy day. Thawed quite a little. We went up home about 10:30. Papa, Arthur & Mon took our radio & the folks to Decorah in P.M. to get them fixed up. We got new batteries. Got home about 6.

Wed. Feb. 17
Rather cloudy most of the day. Not cold tho'. I washed & ironed. Lester was here awhile in A.M. selling Zanol products. We went to B.O. in eve. The boys & I went to the Hall to a play "The Beloved Liar" & dance given by "Little Ole" & his gang from La Crosse. They were sure good. Almost laughed ourselves helpless. Quite a crowd out. Got home about 1.

Thurs. Feb. 18
Beautiful day. Thawed a lot. We went down to Olive's about 10: A.M. She had Club today. Mon & the boys stayed for dinner & then Mon, Arthur & Claude went to B.O. & spent the P.M. Dean & Leonard were skating & sliding. Not so many out to Club. She sure had a good lunch. Some of the men got stuck in the snow getting the women. We got home all O.K., although the roads were bad, until we went too turn in the drive way & then something went wrong with the car & it wouldn't go any further. They hauled it in with the team. Farewell party at the Hall for Harry Harveys & Ben Nolte's tonite but we didn't get there.

Fri. Feb. 19
Nice warm day but cloudy. Thawed again today. The men fixed the car this A.M. It only took a few minutes. Something locked in the transmission. We went up to Red's awhile in P.M. Ruth Matthews died tonite.

Sat. Feb. 20
Cloudy day. Not cold though. Mon & the boys worked in the woods awhile in A.M. & went to B.O. in P.M. It started to snow & blow about 3 P.M. & kept it up all nite. Regular blizzard all right.

Sun. Feb. 21
Regular blizzard early in A.M. Let up some about 10 but the snow & wind kept blowing all day. Not cold during the day, but got much colder in the nite. Didn't do much of anything today. Arthur went over to Daves in eve.

Mon. Feb. 22
Cold blustery day. Didn't do any more than we had to. Mon & Arthur were out & got a few bundles of corn. Road is all drifted full between here & the corner, east, so they had to go up thro the field.

Tues. Feb. 23
Not so cold today blustery again though. I washed & did some ironing. Pretty blustery in P.M. & cold in nite.

Wed. Feb. 24
Another cold blustery day. Mon & Arthur went out in the fields & opened the fences so the cream man could get thro'. Claude Bronner hauled for Jim & August Bergman was along with him. They got here at noon so had dinner here. Our mail man came today. First time since Sat. Dean went over to Dave's in eve. Howard was over awhile in P.M.

Thurs. Feb. 25
Brighter nicer day. Thawed some on the south side of the buildings but the wind is still pretty cold. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in A.M. & didn't get home until about 6.

Fri. Feb. 26
Beautiful day. Thawed some. Mon & Arthur worked in the woods in P.M. Dean went after the mail & made ice cream & did other things. He went up & helped in the woods awhile. Pearl & the girls were over & spent the eve. Leonard B. & Verna were here awhile about noon.

Sat. Feb. 27
Not so nice in A.M. early but cleared off & was a beautiful day. Thawed quite a little. Dave was over awhile in A.M. Arthur & Mon took a grist to B.O. Dean went over to Howards in eve.

Sun. Feb. 28
Mighty nice in A.M. early but clouded up & was cloudy all day. Cleared off in eve tho'. Dean was over to Howard's in A.M. & Howard was over here awhile in P.M. & got the ice cream freezer. Mon, Dean & I were over there & spent the eve. We had ice cream. Leonard B. was there too.

Mon. Mar. 1
Beautiful day. Mon went to the woods early in A.M. & the boys hauled in straw & did some other things & then they went & helped the rest of the day. Ed D. & Claude B. were here for dinner.

Tues. Mar. 2
Beautiful day. The men left here about 8:30 A.M. & went to the Chas. Gossman sale. They drove the team. Didn't get back until 5:30. I washed & ironed. Pearl & the girls were over in P.M.

Wed. Mar. 3
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Mon walked over to the 4 corners with George W. early in A.M. & went to Decorah. The boys & I went to B.O. about 9:30. Audry & Artie McC. rode up town with us. The M.E.L.A.S. had an oyster dinner at the church & I helped cook oysters. Quite a crowd out & a nice dinner. Pearl called mama that our cattle were in the corn shocks so the boys & I came home about 1:30. Didn't see Audry when we came home so left her up there. She got a ride home with Ole's. Mon got home about 7.

Thurs. Mar. 4
Beautiful day. Thawed a lot. Water everywhere. Mon took me over to Merle's in A.M. & I went to Club at Mae Ward's at Ossian with them. Louie & Violet went with them too. Quite a few there. Had a picnic dinner & it sure was good. Margaret Sattre was there for dinner. They live in Ossian too. We got back to the 4 corners about 4:45 & Mon was there waiting for me. Lots of water in the hollows.

Fri. Mar. 5
Beautiful day. Thawed a lot. The snow plow came up through about 2 A.M. I had sick headache all day. Mon & the boys went up to Red's in A.M. & did odd jobs in P.M.

Sat. Mar. 6
Beautiful day. Thawed again. We went to B.O. with our car about 10 & got papa & went to Decorah. Large crowd in town. I got a new pair of shoes. Stopped in B.O. awhile on our way home.

Sun. Mar. 7
Not such a nice day. Got much colder late in P.M. We went over to Dave's in P.M. Played cards. Had supper over there. Got home about 6.

Mon. Mar. 8
Nice bright day but pretty cold. Mon & Dean helped me cut up meat & get it in the cans & we canned 28 qts. of beef. Arthur chopped wood in A.M. He & Mon went & helped Red haul oats from Fritz's corner up to his place in P.M. Cold nite.

Tues. Mar. 9
Another cold day. The men worked in the woods. I worked with the meat some. Clem Brace ground feed here in P.M.

Wed. Mar. 10
Dandy nice day. The men worked in the woods. I washed & ironed. Ed D. was here for supper. Mon & Arthur went to B.O. in eve & Dean went over to Dave's. Had another little calf today.

Thurs. Mar. 11
Had a little snow early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice until late in P.M. it clouded up & got colder. We went up town & spent the day. Howard was over & got the freezer after we got home from town. Mon & Arthur & Fritz went to Lodge in eve.

Fri. Mar. 12
Nice day but cool. I canned meat in P.M. The men worked in the woods part of the day.

Sat. Mar. 13
Cloudy day. Cool. Dave & Tom D. were here in A.M. We went up town in A.M. & spent the rest of the day. Olive & the kids were up to mama's in P.M. also Isa & the boys.

Sun. Mar. 14
Nice day. Mon & the boys went over to Walt R's. awhile in A.M. Dean went over to Geo's. in P.M.

Mon. Mar. 15
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a lovely day. They men worked in the woods. Howard was over awhile in eve.

Tues. Mar. 16
Beautiful day. Thawed quite a little. Tom D. came this A.M. & the men started cutting wood down on Uncle Marion's for Albert E. I washed & ironed.

Wed. Mar. 17
Cloudy most of the day. Thawed quite a lot. Tom was here today & the men chopped wood. Mon & Dean hauled up in P.M. It started to rain about 6:30 & then turned into snow. Didn't snow much though.

Thurs. Mar. 18
Beautiful day. The wind a little cooler but it thawed a lot. Arthur chopped wood in A.M. & Mon & Dean hauled up wood. Tom didn't come. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in P.M. with the car. I went to Club at Lorna Prust's. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch. Came home about 4. Louie K was stuck on the corner by the old granary & Ole's & us came along & helped him out. The men got plenty muddy. The roads were much worse coming home. Ole's had quite a time getting home but we got along O.K.

Fri. Mar. 19
Nice day. Thawed a lot. Tom was here & he & Arthur cut wood & Mon & Dean hauled up. Loyal came down after school. Rode with Dave's. They are having their Easter Vacation this next week.

Sat. Mar. 20
Nice day. Tom came again today & they finished cutting wood about 11:30. Mon, Tom & the boys went to Decorah in P.M. with the car. They had a hard time getting out to the paving so they didn't bring the car back. Left it up at Ern's. The boys got home about 6:30 & Mon stopped at Fritz & he didn't get home until about 7. Dean went over to Dave's in eve.

Sun. Mar. 21
Nice day but the wind was cool. Dave was here awhile in A.M.

Mon. Mar. 22
Not such a nice day. Snowed off & on all day. I washed & ironed. Mon & the boys finished hauling up the wood this P.M. Albert came over in P.M. too see about it.

Tues. Mar. 23
Not very nice day. Mon walked to B.O. in A.M. & went with the car from there to Mabel too see Dr. Reide & got some medicine for Queens foot also a shot for Lock jaw for her. (She got a nail in her foot the other day.) The boys did odd jobs. Wind blew hard all nite.

Wed. Mar. 24
Terrible blizzard & wind all day & most of the nite. Big snow drifts around again. We didn't do much but set around & play cards.

Thurs. Mar. 25
Bright & nice in A.M. but cold. Snowed quite hard at times in P.M. Mon & Arthur walked to B.O. in A.M. & Dean rode Nell up there. Claude Bronner & August Bergeman came about 1:30 after the cream & they put their team in the barn & I got a lunch for them. Howard was here awhile while they were here.

Fri. Mar. 26
Good Friday. Not such a bad day but cool. The folks just did odd jobs. Howard was over a minute in P.M. The folks bought a load of split wood of him in A.M.

Sat. Mar. 27
Nice day but cool. Thawed quite a little though. We walked to B.O. in A.M. Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah a little while in P.M. Dean rode home with Dave early in A.M. Mon, Arthur & I rode down to the 4 corners with Frank Red & walked the rest of the way home. Got home about 5:30. Dean went over to Dave's in eve. Uncle Marion got home from Montana this noon.

Sun. Mar. 28
Easter Sunday. Beautiful day. Thawed quite a lot. Audry & Maxine came over in P.M. & stayed for supper & until about 9. Walter W. was here in P.M. too.

Mon. Mar. 29
Beautiful day. Thawed a lot. I washed & ironed some. The men worked in the woods. Bea & Red were down awhile in P.M. Audry was over a minute after supper.

Tues. Mar. 30
Arthur's 20th Birthday. Nice day. Thawed again. It is drying up some in places. The men worked in the woods. Dean helped me in P.M. We made ice cream & candy for Arthur's Birthday.

Wed. Mar. 31
Very nice early in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained. Dave was over in A.M. awhile. The men worked in the woods in A.M. & then we went to B.O. in P.M. with the team & wagon. Audry went along with us. She & I went to Lutheran L.A.S. Bea & Mrs. Brown entertained. Quite a few out & they had a swell lunch. It rained all the way home & the roads were a fright. Mon & Marion went to Decorah just as we came home so they didn't get down here until the boys were milking.

Thurs. Apr. 1
Nice day but the wind was cold. The men worked in the woods most of the day. Audry & Delores were over awhile in P.M.

Fri. Apr. 2
Nice part of the day & cloudy part of the day. The men went to B.O. in A.M. & then took papa to Decorah. They didn't get back until after 5. Howard was over awhile late in P.M. Marion went over to Dave's in eve. Maxine came home sick.

Sat. Apr. 3
Rained off & on all day & some times quite hard. Turned colder late in P.M. & the rain turned too sleet & everything was covered with ice. Mon & the boys went to B.O. & then took Howard & Fritz to Decorah. Marion went over to Lovliens. Dean went over to Howards in eve.

Sun. Apr. 4
Cloudy most of the day. The ice thawed off of most everything today. Marion came back over here about 6 P.M. It snowed in the nite.

Mon. Apr. 5
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was nice part of the day. Arthur went up to Red's early in A.M. to haul in a load of wood for them. Red hurt his ribs yesterday. He fell on the water tank. Mon & Marion went to B.O. about 11 & Mon took Red to Decorah to Dr. Fritchen. He taped Red up. Mon & Marion got home about 6:00.

Tues. Apr. 6
Beautiful day. Regular spring day. It melted a lot of snow today & dried up quite a bit too. The men started hauling up our wood today. The boys started chopping some more. I washed & ironed. Pearl & the girls were here awhile in A.M.

Wed. Apr. 7
Nice day. The men hauled up wood today. I did a little of everything.

Thurs. Apr. 8
Beautiful day. The men finished hauling up our wood this noon. Claude Bronner was here for dinner. We went up town in P.M. I went up home awhile. Went up too see Aunt Alice's house with her & Florence. (She bought the Nolte cottage). We got home about 6. The road dried up a lot today. Howard dragged past here with the field drag. Froze quite hard tonite. Had a little calf tonite.

Fri. Apr. 9
Nice day. We sawed wood here today. Albert & Florence & Norris & Frank Reed came about 9:30 too help saw wood. Florence brought food too. They sawed our wood in A.M. & Alberts in P.M. Didn't quite finish Albert's tonite. Pearl & the girls were over all day too. Ed D. sawed & August Bergeman helped him. Howard & Fritz K. helped us saw besides the folks. Fred W. dragged roads today. Car past here tonite. First for some time. I.O.O.F. dance tonite but the roads were too bad we didn't go.

Sat. Apr. 10
Beautiful day. They finished sawing wood here about 10 & went over to Howards & sawed their wood before dinner. I helped Pearl. We drove up town in P.M. with the team. Roads pretty good. Dean drove the team home & Mon & I bro't the car home. Arthur took Dave & Lizzie to B.O. in P.M. Dr. Lannin came down too see Maxine in P.M. & lanced her throat. She has quinsy & is not getting along very good. We went to B.O. in eve & got Lester's & went to Breezy Hill. "Scandinavians" played. Had a good time. Danced quite a bit. Didn't get home until about 2. They boys got tired of waiting for us & walked home. Marion went to Alberts this P.M.

Sun. Apr. 11
Beautiful day. Quite warm. Lots of cars on the road today. Mon went up & got the folks this A.M. Lester's came down too. Harlan was gone so he didn't come. Papa, Dean & Loyal went fishing in P.M. Got 15 or 16 small ones. Arthur took the folks home about 5.

Mon. Apr. 12
Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on all day, but not enough to hurt the roads. The big grader went past here this A.M. We went to B.O. about 11. Geo G. & Ralph G. rode up to the 4 corners with us. They were taking up snow fence. Went up home for dinner. Ad & Isa were at Mama's in P.M. too. We got the message this A.M. that Aunt Lucy Van Vleit passed away at 7:20 last nite.

Tues. Apr. 13
Beautiful day. We went to B.O. about 9 & met Red & Bea & they went to Decorah with us. Went down to Uncle Jim's a minute. Run around town quite a little. Stopped in B.O. awhile on our way home. Got home about 5. Took Bea home & got some parsnips up there. Got some horse radish at Chase's on our way home. Geo W. bro't Dean a little lamb in eve.

Wed. Apr. 14
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained off & on all P.M. Cleared up late in P.M. & was very nice & in eve. I washed & got most of the clothes dry & ironed. Geo. W. was over & cleaned his grain in P.M. Mon took Lizzie, Maxine & Artie to B.O. in P.M. Maxine is quite a bit better. We made ice cream in P.M. & Dean took some over to Maxine in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 15
Not such a nice day. Cloudy. We went to B.O. in P.M. Went up as far as Haugen's & met Bea & she went with us. We went to Club at the Lutheran parlors. Agnes entertained. Quite a few out. Had a dandy lunch. Bea rode home with Red & Gust. We took Olive & Marie down to their driveway. Ole Stockman rode home with us too as far as Fritz. Deans' lamb died this P.M.

Fri. Apr. 16
Dandy nice day but cool. Arthur Smith was here in A.M. Ed D. came along & we took him to Harmony. Arthur only went as far as B.O. Stopped in B.O. a little while on our way home. Got home about 2. Mon got some paint for the inside of the house & after we had a lunch they started painting the kitchen. Dean & I went down on Silver Creek in P.M. & found some flowers. Chas. & Walter W. were here in eve. It rained hard in the nite. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Sat. Apr. 17
Quite a nice day. Mon & Arthur painted most of the day. I scrubbed & did a little of everything. Arthur & Dean went to Decorah with Art W. in eve. (He has a new V8). Mon & I went to B.O. The I.O.O.F. had a dance at the hall. Grace & Leonard G. & Leo W. played. Had a good time. Got home about 1:30. Marion came home with us.

Sun. Apr. 18
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & sprinkled some. Nice the rest of the P.M. & eve though. Dean went fishing in P.M. & got 8 or 10. Mon, Arthur & I took Marion home in P.M. & stopped up home a little while on our way back.

Mon. Apr. 19
Mama's 66th Birthday. Beautiful day. Nice & warm. The men did odd jobs fixed harness & such. Arthur started plowing in P.M. Mon painted some in P.M.

Tues. Apr. 20
Not very nice day. Sprinkled off & on in P.M. Rained hard in the nite & most of the nite too. Arthur plowed all day. Mon, Dean & I went to Decorah a little while in P.M.

Wed. Apr. 21
Not very nice day. Sprinkled & rain off & on all day. Pretty cool. Didn't do much of anything.

Thurs. Apr. 22
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Arthur plowed all day. Mon & the boys went to B.O. in eve.

Fri. Apr. 23
Dandy day. Arthur plowed all day. Mon went to B.O. early in A.M. & didn't get home until about 3:30. Had the car greased. Loyal walked down after school.

Sat. Apr. 24
Gloomy nasty day. Rained off & on all day. Not very hard. Rained & snowed in the nite. "Red" was down awhile in A.M. Arthur finished plowing for seeding in P.M. Dean & Loyal walked to B.O. in P.M. Ed D. came over & rode to B.O. with us. Dean & I went to "Little Ole & the G. Men" at the Pavilion. Large crowd at the dance afterward. Rather slippery when we came home. Put the chains on in B.O. Dean came home with us. Got home about 1:30. Ed stayed all nite.

Sun. Apr. 25
Nasty day. Snowed & rained almost all day. Dave & Harry Q. were here in A.M. Ed went home about 2. Rained all nite I guess. Regular blizzard in the western part of Iowa & in S. Dak last nite & today. Everything tied up.

Mon. Apr. 26
Sometimes the sun shone & sometimes it rained during the day. Rained most of the nite. Mon & the boys hauled over wood in A.M. Mon split wood most of the day. The boys hauled out manure in P.M. Pearl & the girls were over in A.M. & Howard & Verna were over about supper time.

Tues. Apr. 27
Rained off & on most of A.M. Didn't rain in P.M. but was cloudy & cold. Didn't do much of anything. Mon rode to B.O. in P.M. with Dave. Roads not very good for team or car.

Wed. Apr. 28
Cloudy, cold day. Sprinkled some in P.M. Rained most of the nite. Arthur dragged all day. I didn't do much of anything. Mon & Dean cleaned oats.

Thurs. Apr. 29
Cloudy cold day. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. about noon with the mules. Got up to mama's in time too help eat Ad's birthday dinner. Lester & Isa were there too. Mon took papa's car after dinner & took me up to Fern's to Club. Quite a few out. Had a swell lunch. I rode back to B.O. with Florence. Uncle Marion came home with us. Had a hard rain in the nite. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Fri. Apr. 30
Misty, cloudy & cool in A.M. Cleared off some about 3 P.M. & was rather nice for awhile. We all went up to the school house to the last day of school picnic. Quite a few there. Had a swell dinner.

Sat. May 1
Very nice day only a little while just after dinner it clouded up & looked pretty rainy but it only sprinkled a little. I washed, ironed & scrubbed. The boys went up to Red's a few minutes in P.M. Marion went over to Lovlien's We planned on going to B.O. in eve, but it rained very hard just as we were ready to go so we stayed at home. Arthur's sow had 3 pigs tonite.

Sun. May 2
Gloomy, cloudy, cool day. Mon & the boys went to B.O. awhile in A.M. Mon & I went down on Pine Creek fishing in P.M. Dean came down there awhile too. Got 14 small ones. Arthur went down on Silver Creek but didn't get any. Arthur's old sow hurt her pigs so badly they had too kill them.

Mon. May 3
Not very nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. Rained some in eve. Arthur disced all day. Mon went over to Lovlien's in P.M.

Tues. May 4
Not so nice early in A.M. Rained some. Cleared off & was a dandy day. Quite warm. Mon & I went down to Claude's early in A.M. & got his grass seeder. Had to go thro' the hills the roads are too bad the other way. Went up town a minute on our way home. Arthur sowed one piece of oats today. Mon sowed grass seed & Dean dragged. Uncle Marion came back this P.M. 3 sows had 18 pigs today.

Wed. May 5
Beautiful spring day. Quite warm. Arthur disced all day. Mon, Dean & Marion went to Decorah in A.M. I washed. Mon, Dean, Marion & I went over to Marion's house in P.M. & took some things over for him. He had too take his place back from Happy so he is going to live there. I ironed after we got home. Pearl & the girls were over in eve.

Thurs. May 6
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. The men worked in the field all day. Sowing & dragging. Mon & Uncle Marion took me to B.O. at noon too practice for Mother's Day. We practiced at Prust's. Florence bro't me home. The boys & Uncle Marion went to B.O. in eve.

Fri. May 7
Beautiful day. They finished seeding about 9:30 & Dean finished dragging about 11:30. Arthur & Uncle Marion plowed the potato ground in P.M. Mon & I were out there too burning grass & resetting some of the Chinese elms. Mon dragged the ground after they got it plowed. Dean was gone all P.M. Uncle Marion, Mon & I went over to Geo's in eve awhile. Got some old hens too set on goose eggs.

Sat. May 8
Rather cloudy most of the day, but didn't rain. Cooler. Arthur plowed all day. Papa & Loyal were down a few minutes in A.M. Loyal stayed until after dinner. Mon & Uncle Marion took me to B.O. at noon & then they went on to Mabel & had some oats ground. Loyal went home. The Joan of Arc entertained the Mothers of the community at the M.E. Church this P.M. Quite a few out. Had a nice program & lunch. Vera, Dorothea, Florence, & I sang 2 songs. Got home about 5. Had supper & then all but Arthur went to B.O. Mon & I went down to Breezy Hill. Joe Fisher's Concertina Orchestra played. Came home about 1. Marion went to Alberts tonite.

Sun. May 9
Nice day. Mon went up to Andrew's & Red's in A.M. Dean went to B.O. with Arthur W. Arthur & I went up home in P.M. awhile. Claude's & Lester's came after we got there. Arthur went to Decorah in eve to the show. Had 8 more little pigs this A.M.

Mon. May 10
Dandy day. The wind was cool. Arthur plowed all day. Papa & mama came down & planted potatoes today. They got thro' about 2:30. Mon, Dean & I went over to Geo's in eve & took 1 hen back & got another too set on the goose eggs.

Tues. May 11
Cloudy & windy & cool in A.M. Rained quite hard about 11 A.M. & kept on sprinkling off & on until about 2:30 it brightened up & was nice the rest of P.M. Rained very hard in eve & until after 12. Arthur plowed until it rained. He got wet before he got to the house. I washed. Got part of the clothes dry before it rained & dried the rest of them in P.M. so I got the ironing done.

Wed. May 12
Dandy day. Quite warm but windy. Mon & the boys & Red went to Decorah in P.M. Bea & I went over to Pearl's to Lutheran L.A.S. Not so many out but she had a good crowd too. She & Vera entertained. They had a swell lunch. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. I went up to the church to practice.

Thurs. May 13
Cold, gloomy day. Misted off & on during the day. Arthur plowed all day. Mon & I went to Harmony in A.M. Mon got a spring for the corn planter & I got a hair cut.

Fri. May 14
Dandy nice day but the wind was cool. Mon took me to the pavement about 9: A.M. & I went to Decorah with Florence to the Farm Bureau Achievement Day at the L.C. Gym. Mrs. Freddie & Willard Darrington & Mrs. Arthur Barth went with her too. Quite a crowd at the meeting. Vera, Florence, Hilda E. & I sang a song on the P.M. program. Dressed silly & sang silly. Went down town a few minutes after the meeting. Got home about 5. Loyal came down tonite after school. Arthur finished plowing this P.M. We went over to Geo's awhile in eve.

Sat. May 15
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Papa came down a little while in A.M. & Loyal went home with him. Arthur drove Dave's car to Decorah for them & I went along. Got 2 new every day dresses. Got home about 4:30. Mon disced awhile in A.M. We went up town in eve. Went up to Prust's to practice in eve. It started to rain about 10 & we came home. Got pretty slippery before we got home.

Sun. May 16
Dandy day. Mon & Arthur went up to Red's awhile early in A.M. Bea came home with them. Ruth & Francis came about 9:30. We were going up home so Ruth took Bea & I to B.O. She went up to mama's & I went to church. Vera, Florence, Dorothea & I sang 2 songs in church. Today is papa's birthday & we were up there for dinner. Lester's were there too. Mama's new neighbor came over in P.M. Mon & Francis & the boys were over to Donlans at noon & they bought 3 sows & 30 pigs.

Mon. May 17
Dandy day. Arthur disced. I washed & ironed. Mon sold 3 sows to Lloyd. Raymond Young hauled them to Prosper & then they brought the sows home from Donlan's that they bought. Rained very hard in the nite. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning. Mon planted corn for Red in P.M.

Tues. May 18
Not so nice early in A.M. Rained hard, but cleared off & was a nice day but cold. Mon & the boys went to B.O. early in A.M. with the team & didn't get back until 5.

Wed. May 19
Dandy day but cool. Mon planted corn at Red's. Arthur disced. Dean & I did a little of everything. Bea was here a few minutes in A.M. It rained hard in the nite.

Thurs. May 20
Cold gloomy day. Sprinkled off & on all day. Sun shone just a little. Arthur went up to Gust's in A.M. & got the manure spreader. Mon went up to Red's in P.M. & planted corn & Arthur disced. Howard & Verna were over awhile in eve. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning in eve but not much rain. Mighty hard wind in the nite.

Fri. May 21
Dandy nice day but pretty windy. Some what warmer during the day, but got cool toward eve. Mon planted corn at Red's. He finished & got home about 5. Arthur disced all day. Dean & I shelled the seed corn. Mon, Dean & I went up town in eve. We went up home a few minutes.

Sat. May 22
Dandy nice day. Dean dragged & Arthur planted corn. The Price boys all came to Decorah today so Mon went down & spent the day with them talking business. He got home about 6:30. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Dean & I went to the Pavilion to "Little Ole's" show & dance. The show was good & a very large crowd. Too much of a crowd to dance very good. Got home about 1.

Sun. May 23
Nice day. Papa & Harlan were here a minute early in A.M. & Dean went fishing with them. Mon, Arthur & I went to B.O. about 9:30. Mon went fishing. I went to S.S. & church. Went up home for dinner Arthur did too. Marie & Marvin were there too. Claude's came up in P.M. Aunt Lissa & Mettie were there too. Claude & Del went to the ball game. Mon came after us about 5. He had a few fish. Harold S. was here a minute in A.M. too see if the folks would do his chores for awhile. He was going up in Minn. to his Uncle's funeral. They did them this eve. Arthur W. was here in eve.

Mon. May 24
Dandy day. Dean disced until about 5 then Mon went out until quitting time. Arthur finished planting about 3 P.M. & then he dragged the potatoes & part of the garden. I cleaned out the strawberries in A.M. & planted garden in P.M. Mon helped me awhile. Mon & Arthur did chores at Harold's this A.M. & then Arthur & Dean went to do them at eve but Harold was home. He couldn't make good connections from Minneapolis so he came back home. It rained in the nite.

Tues. May 25
Rained some in A.M. early but cleared off & was quite nice until after dinner it clouded up & it rained pretty hard for about an hour & then rained off & on the rest of the P.M. & nite. Arthur planted corn & Dean dragged until it rained. I washed & got part of my ironing done. Loyal came about 11 & stayed until about 5. He drove the pony down. Albert & Josphine H. came just as it started too rain & they stayed until it let up. They were after some little calves of theirs that were up here. Mon & I went to B.O. & right back after dinner. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. May 26
Rained off & on all day & nite. Sometimes pretty hard. Didn't do much of anything.

Thurs. May 27
A little brighter day. The sun shone some. We went up town about 10. I went up home. We were all there for dinner. I rode down to Club at Luella's with Joe & Iona. Quite a few out & we had a swell lunch. Rode back to B.O. with Catherine H. Got home about 5. Ben Johnson died very suddenly this A.M.

Fri. May 28
Dandy day. Quite warm. Arthur hauled manure all day. Dean helped him in A.M. & then he disced & dragged in P.M. Marion came over about 11. Mon & I took him home about 3:30 & then went up to Red's a little while.

Sat. May 29
Nice day. Arthur planted corn & Dean disced & dragged. I scrubbed the floors in A.M. & in P.M. was out helping Mon most of the time. We went to B.O. in eve. Arthur went down to Breezy Hill awhile so we had too wait for him too come home. Got home a little after 12. Dean went with Arthur W. to Breezy Hill.

Sun. May 30
Beautiful day. Plenty warm. Mon & Arthur took me to church in A.M. Dean went places. Mon, Dean & I went to Bluffton late in P.M. Got a sack of flour. Visited with Rex & May & Happy awhile down there. Arthur, Maxine & I went to B.O. in eve to the Baccalaureate Service for the B.O.H.S. at the M.E. church. Rev. Prust spoke. Not so many out. Got home about 9:30. Ben Johnson was buried at B.O. today.

Mon. May 31
Dandy day. Arthur disced & dragged. Dean plowed corn. Marion came over in A.M. He helped Mon with some work & then Mon took him over to Florence's in P.M. too get some things. I planted garden in P.M. Got much cooler late in P.M. & looked quite rainy but it only sprinkled some in the nite.

Tues. June 1
Cooler & cloudy. Misted some in A.M. Dean dragged in A.M. & went up to Gust's & got a plow in P.M. Arthur finished planting corn about 2:30 P.M. & then Mon went up to Red's & started planting. Mon & I went over to Gust's a few minutes at noon. Sprinkled some in the nite.

Wed. June 2
Not very nice in A.M. Cloudy & misty but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Mon went back to Red's in A.M. & finished planting his corn. The boys went over to Marions & plowed & dragged some ground for him & Mon planted some corn for him in P.M. Marion & they boys came over here for dinner.

Thurs. June 3
Dandy nice day. Arthur plowed corn. Mon, Dean, Red & Marion went to Decorah & were gone all day. I washed & ironed.

Fri. June 4
Nice day. Looked pretty rainy some times but didn't rain. Dean plowed corn. Mon went too B.O. in A.M. & got a big load of shingles he had bought of Ben Wicks. Marion & Loyal came home with him at noon. Arthur & Loyal went over to Marions in P.M. & plowed another piece of ground for him. Mon & I went down to Claude's in P.M. & got some asparagus too eat & some corn plants too set out. Arthur went to B.O. in eve to the Graduating Exercises of the B.O.H.S. Maxine Cassel, Beverly Rollins, Alice Albertson, Manford Whitney & Gerald Moran were the graduates. It rained very hard in the nite.

Sat. June 5
Rained off & on in A.M. but cleared off in P.M. & was nice but cool. Didn't do much of anything. We went to B.O. in eve. Loyal went home. I went up to the pavilion to hear "Little Ole" again. The play was "Driftwood". Not such a large crowd out tonite. We got home a little after 1. Pretty windy & cold. The Northern lights were wonderful.

Sun. June 6
Terribly windy, cold, cloudy day. Sun didn't shine much. Mon & Arthur took me to church in A.M. Dean went over to Howards. In P.M. Arthur went to the ball game at B.O. & Dean went riding with Leonard B.

Mon. June 7
Nice day but rather windy & cool. Mon went down to Dick Keefe's with Tom D. & helped him shear sheep. They got home about 7. The boys plowed & dragged the lot west of the corn crib in A.M. I washed. In P.M. Dean plowed corn. Arthur & I planted popcorn & melons. When we finished that Arthur plowed corn & I ironed. Geo. W. was over awhile after supper.

Tues. June 8
Nice day but mighty cold & windy. They boys plowed corn in A.M. Mon went over to Marion's & up town. I ironed. We went down to the Airport in P.M. to an Air Show. 13 or 14 planes there taking up passengers & flying around. Quite a crowd there. Claude's were there so I was with Olive & Marie. We went down town before we came home a few minutes. Froze some tonite. Didn't hurt things here.

Wed. June 9
Nice day. Some what warmer. The boys plowed corn. Mon & I worked in the garden most of the day. We went down to Matters in eve to a dance. The Decorah cream haulers put on a free dance to their patrons & there was sure a big crowd. We got home about 11:45. Red & Dave were here awhile in A.M.

Thurs. June 10
Dandy nice day. The boys finished plowing their corn at noon. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. too help him fix the mower. Dean went over to Gust's in P.M. & took his plow home. Mon, Arthur, Marion & I went to B.O. in P.M. I went to Club at Anita's with Ethel Reed from B.O. The men went to Decorah to get repairs for the mower. Large crowd at Club. Had a swell lunch. We got back home about 5:30. Loyal was here when we got home. Papa & mama came down about 11 & were here for dinner. They hoed potatoes.

Fri. June 11
Nice day. The men folks all went to B.O. early in A.M. They boys & papa & mama went to Decorah. They got back here about 12:30. Finished fixing the mower in P.M. We took Marion home in eve & then went on to B.O. I went up to Myra's to practice. Got home about 10:30.

Sat. June 12
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & it sure rained late in P.M. & eve. Just poured & quite a bit of wind & thunder & lightning. Loyal went home after dinner. Mon & I went out in the east field in P.M. before the rain. Looking for lady slippers. The Joan of Arc were to have had a lunch for the fathers tonite but it stormed so hard we didn't go. Warren Price & Katherine Woodbridge were married today at 4 P.M. We were invited but couldn't go. Sure wish we could have.

Sun. June 13
Not very nice in A.M. early but cleared off & was quite nice in P.M. Looked mighty rainy & bad about supper time but didn't rain here. Sprinkled a little in eve. We were home alone all day. Geo, Lyda & the kids were over & spent the eve. The men played cards.

Mon. June 14
Beautiful day. We went to Decorah about 9 A.M. Went up to Dr. Fritchen's office about 10 & were there until about 4 P.M Arthur had his tonsils out about 12: & then he laid on the cot in the office until we came home. I was down town long enough to do a little trading & get a sandwich. Johnnie Whalen came home with us. Mon went to B.O. in eve & Johnnie & Dean went up to Haugen's.

Tues. June 15
Dandy nice day. I washed in A.M. Mon & Dean tried to plow corn but it was too wet. Mon & I went down to Claude's after dinner & got some asparagus & Olive gave us strawberries for our supper. They were sure nice. I ironed some after we got home. Mon & I went to Bluffton a few minutes in eve too do some trading. Arthur doesn't feel very good. Can't eat anything.

Wed. June 16
Pretty warm day. Mon & Dean plowed corn. Johnnie went up to Quandahl's. Papa was down a minute early in A.M. I ironed & did a little of everything. Mon took Dean to B.O. in eve too go to "Little Ole". Arthur is about the same.

Thurs. June 17
Nice day. Plenty warm. Mon & Dean plowed corn & Dean plowed the potatoes. I cleaned the brooder house & worked in the garden. Lizzie was here a few minutes in P.M. Arthur feels better today. He tries too eat a little. Stella Reed & Clyde Halse were married today, also Dorothy Greenslade & some fellow from Leroy.

Fri. June 18
Dandy nice day. Mon & Dean plowed corn. Arthur & I went up to Bea's in A.M. & got some lettuce. We went up town in P.M. awhile. Went up to mama's & up to Isa's a minute. She gave us some lettuce too. It rained in the nite.

Sat. June 19
Looked rainy most of the day. Sun shone some though. Lloyd K. was down in A.M. & bought some cattle. Mon went over to Cold Water with him about noon so he wasn't here for dinner. They took our cattle about 2 P.M. Mon & the boys went to Prosper & then to Mabel too get the check cashed. They got home about 4 & then Mon, Dean & I worked in the garden. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in eve. Terrible storm about 10. Blew the south door open & everything all over the house. Took part of the roof off the barn & disturbed things in general. Rained hard too. The folks got home about 12:30. 5 head of cattle bro't $236.35.

Sun. June 20
Mighty warm day. We started for B.O. about 9:30. I was going too church but we got as far as Red's & didn't get any farther. They sure had a cyclone there. Nothing left but the house & that is not much. Most of the windows gone, chimney gone & plasterd torn off. They were at B.O. when it happened. Good thing. One calf killed & some pigs were hurt so badly they had too be killed. Some of the men fixed up stanchion in the cow barn, what was left of it, & they got the cows milked about 2 P.M. Crowds all day long. People from everywhere. Red was dead to the world all day so it was up to Bea for everything. We got home about 6. The cyclone took Cliff Kuene's, Richard Rolf's, & Gene McCabe's places everything but the houses. The storm took out trees & windmills at Lovlien's, Quandahl's, Haugen's, Ole's, Harold's, & moved Gust's barn & machine shed. Lots of places it took trees & windmills. Ed D. was here in eve.

Mon. June 21
Dandy nice day. Mon, Arthur & I went to Decorah about 9:30. Took Dean up to Red's too help today before we went. Arthur & I went up too see Dr. F. & he said Arthur's throat is coming fine. We got 275 little chickens at J. Matters. Stopped at Mrs. Millers a few minutes on our way home. Got home about 2:30 & then went up to Red's & on to Prosper. Bea went along with us. Stopped at mama's a minute on our way back. Dean came home with us from Red's. Had supper & did chores & then went over to Lovlien's too see the effects of the storm there & at McCauleys. Nothing left at McC's but the house & pretty bad at L's. Trees torn out, windmill gone & barn twisted. Quite a few there. Lizzie & Maxine were here in A.M. before we went to town.

Tues. June 22
Dandy day. Pretty hot. Dean went over to Krumm's & plowed corn. Mon & Arthur plowed corn. Mon plowed the potatoes too. We put the little chickens in the brooder house this A.M. & I spent most of my day running after them. Pearl & the girls were here a minute in P.M. I worked in the garden in eve. Geo W. & Dave came over in eve & listened to the Jim Braddock & Joe Louis fight. It was a good clean fight. Joe knocked out Braddock in the 8th round.

Wed. June 23
Pretty warm day. The boys plowed corn. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & they put a new roof on the brooder house & fixed the windows. I went along with Mon in P.M. when he took Marion home. We went up town in eve. Mott Knox died about 5 P.M.

Thurs. June 24
Pretty hot day. They boys plowed corn. Loyal came down this A.M. Mon & Loyal took me to Club at Gladys' in P.M. Quite a crowd out. Mrs. Richard Rolfe's, Mrs. Victor Berg & Pauline Lange joined the Club. The Initiation was good. Sure had a swell lunch. Mon & Loyal came after me about 4:30. We went for a ride in eve. Stopped at the river & got some sand for the little chicken's & then went on out to Floyd A's. but they were gone & Dale was in bed. We went around the square's south & came in on the Decorah road. Had a good ride & got cooled off a little. Little son born to Richard & Doris Blaess.

Fri. June 25
Nice in A.M. early but clouded up & rained about noon & in P.M. Cleared off late in P.M. The boys plowed until it rained & again in P.M. late. We went over to Geo's a minute in eve.

Sat. June 26
Dandy nice day but cooler. The boys plowed corn. Mon helped papa do some carpenter work at Brayton's in A.M. Loyal went home with him when he went. We went up town in eve. Dean went to Decorah with Arthur W. Arthur & I went up to the Pavilion & listened to the music a few minutes. "Carnival Nite". We got home about 12.

Sun. June 27
Dandy nice day. The men went over to Fred's early in A.M. too wash the car & didn't get back until after 11. We went up home for dinner. Claude's were there too. Came home about 5. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in eve. Dean went up to Haugen's.

Mon. June 28
Nice day. Quite windy. The boys plowed corn in A.M. In P.M. Arthur & Mon moved the brooder house & then Arthur mowed weeds with the mower out north. Bea was down a few minutes. It looked pretty rainy for awhile in P.M. but only sprinkled here. Got quite a bit cooler. Dean helped Louie K. hay in P.M. Mon went to Bill Erickson's in A.M. too help papa shingle the barn but when they got over there Mrs. E. had gotten some one from Decorah so they were out of a job.

Tues. June 29
Nice day. Cool. Dean plowed corn. Arthur mowed most of the day. He mowed the alfalfa in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in eve. Dean got a hair cut. The boys were invited to a birthday party for Shirley but they wouldn't go.

Wed. June 30
Nice day. Mama & papa & Loyal came down early in A.M. Mama & papa worked in the potatoes. Dean plowed corn in A.M. Mon & Arthur did odd jobs. Mon, Arthur & I went up to Red's about 1 & he went to Decorah with us. Bea rode to B.O. with us. Arthur & I each got a hair cut. We got back to B.O. about 4:30 & Bea rode home with us. She had been to Lutheran L.A.S. Dean & I set out a lot of cabbage plants in eve that Mama bro't down. Happy & Marion were over in eve.

Thurs. July 1
Nice day. Dean went over to Lovlien's & plowed corn today. Mon, Arthur & I put up hay in P.M. Mon & Arthur went to Lodge in eve.

Fri. July 2
Nice day. Pretty warm. Dean plowed corn at Lovlien's again today. We finished putting up the alfalfa today. We went up to Reds a few minutes in eve.

Sat. July 3
Nice in A.M. early but clouded up later & we got a nice little shower about 10 A.M. Cleared off for awhile about noon & then clouded up again later in P.M. Had a regular cloud burst about 6 P.M. Rain came down in sheets & the wind blew pretty hard. Kept it up for over 30 min's. Brightened up again after that. Looked pretty rainy later in eve but it only sprinkled a little. Knocked the grain & corn flat. Didn't do so much during the day. Mon & I went up to Red's a few minutes in P.M. We went up town in eve. Loyal went home.

Sun. July 4
Beautiful day. Plenty warm. Mon, Dean & I left here about 11 A.M. for Waukon to the "Rodeo". Went to B.O. first. Uncle Aaron rode from B.O. to Uncle Geo's with us. Got down there about 12:30 & run around "Midway" a little & then went up in the grandstand too see the "Rodeo". Dean found Arthur W. & Leonard B. just after he got there so he went with them & came home with them. Grand stand was full & the bleachers were full too. Sure a big crowd there. It was good. We stopped in Waukon & had ice cream on our way home. Stopped at Decorah & got some bread. Got home at 5:45. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in eve. We went to bed about 5.

Mon. July 5
Beautiful day. Plenty hot. Arthur mowed the hay up by the grain field. Mon & Dean worked in the garden some in A.M. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. Marion came home with him & stayed for supper. They put in 1 load of hay late in P.M. I washed & ironed. Mon & I took Marion home in eve & then went up to Red's a minute. Howard was here a little while at noon.

Tues. July 6
Pretty hot day. Arthur plowed corn. Dean helped Howard hay. We went & got Marion & Bea & Red early in A.M. & went to Decorah. Got home about 12:30. The men hayed in P.M. We took Marion home in eve. Happy & Albert E. came too see him while we were there too.

Wed. July 7
Hot day. Dean helped Howard. Arthur plowed corn. Mon & I went up to Red's early in A.M. to a "Bee" cleaning up the wreckage. Not so many there but they sure did a lot. Gladys & Alice A. were there awhile in P.M. Mon came down & got Arthur about 4 P.M. & he was there for supper. We got home about 6. Fred Burrows died very suddenly about 11:30 P.M.

Thurs. July 8
Another hot day. Arthur plowed corn. Dean was home in A.M. but helped Howard in P.M. The mothers of the community entertained the Club girls in P.M. at Minnie Van Vliets. Quite a crowd out & we sure had a swell feed. I went with Alice & Gladys A. Alice stayed at Shirleys & we went on with Florence. Got home about 5:30. We went up town in eve. I went up to Mama's awhile with Olive & the kids.

Fri. July 9
Hot day. Arthur plowed corn. Dean helped Howard until about 4 P.M. Dean & Arthur went riding with Arthur W. in eve. Mon & I went up to Quandahl's.

Sat. July 10
Mighty hot day. Dean helped Howard. Mon, Arthur, Marion & I went to Decorah about 8:30 A.M. & didn't get home until about 6 P.M. Large crowd in town. Went down to Sid Brickner's in P.M. too see "Joe Dokes" & hear him sing & talk. We went up town in eve. Mon & I took Lester's to "Breezy Hill" to the dance. Quite a crowd & had a good time. Got home about 2. Dean came home with Leonard B. & Arthur with M. Leonharts.

Sun. July 11
Nice part of the day & cloudy part of the day. Had a little shower in P.M. but it didn't amount to much. Mon went & got papa & mama & Lester's. Marie, Leonard, Marion & Marvin, Aunt Lissa, Dell & Mettie, Aunt Candace & Uncle Marion were here. We had a picnic dinner & then picked gooseberries. Mrs. Jack Whalen called about 7 that Jack was quite sick & wanted us too come & see him so Mon & I went down. He was in pretty bad shape. Too much booze. We got home about 10. Fred Burrows was buried at Decorah this P.M.

Mon. July 12
Pretty warm day. Mon plowed corn. Dean helped Howard in P.M. & that finished their haying. Arthur went to Walt Rehwinkel's this A.M. too work there this week while Raymond Webb is taking his vacation. He has to haul cream & gravel & lime. He drove the car over this A.M. & didn't get home until about 8.

Tues. July 13
Nice in A.M. Pretty warm. Clouded up in P.M. & we got a dandy shower about 3. Mon took Arthur over to Walt's this A.M. so he will stay there tonite. Mon & Dean plowed corn until it rained.

Wed. July 14
Pretty nice day. Rather cloudy for awhile in A.M. but cleared off & was very nice. Cool. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean fixed fence & did other jobs in A.M. & finished plowing corn in P.M. We went up town in eve. Went over & got Arthur so he could come home & get some clean clothes. I set in the car with Olive & visited with her all eve.

Thurs. July 15
Nice day but cooler. Mon & Dean took turns mowing hay. They mowed the road sides & some weeds also. I went up to Gladys' in P.M. with Maxine & Lizzie to L.A.S. Quite a few there for such a busy time. Sure had a swell supper. We went up to Red's a few minutes in eve. Mon took Arthur over to Walt's early in A.M.

Fri. July 16
Mighty windy day. Cool. I picked berries in the woods almost all day. Harlan came down in A.M. They put up hay today.

Sat. July 17
Nice cool day. Didn't do so much. Harlan walked home in P.M. Mon went after Arthur about 4 P.M. but they didn't get back until about 7. Dean had all the chores done. We went to B.O. in eve & then Mon, Arthur, Lester, Isa & I went to "Breezy Hill". Cedar Valley Hill Billies played. Very large crowd & quite a noisy crowd toward the last. We got home about 1:30.

Sun. July 18
Nice day. Some warmer. Dean went to Freeport with Arthur W. to a motorcycle & automobile climb up the bluffs. Mon, Arthur & I went up home. Arthur went to the show at Decorah in P.M.

Mon. July 19
Nice day. Plenty warm. Arthur & Dean fixed fence in A.M. Arthur mowed in P.M. & Dean fixed fence & did other jobs. Mon & I picked berries most of the day. Geo W. mowed hay here too.

Tues. July 20
Nice warm day. Geo & Earl came over in A.M. too hay. Dean helped them today. Mon & Arthur were going to hay but Lizzie called & wanted Mon to take her & Maxine to Cresco so Walter W. came over & helped Arthur. Maxine had her tonsils out. Mon didn't get home until about 6:30 & then he had to hurry & get ready & go to Decorah to Lodge. Dean & I went over to Howards a few minutes in eve.

Wed. July 21
Nice day. Plenty warm. Dean worked for Geo W. putting up hay from here. Mon & Arthur loaded up a load of hay in A.M. & then Arthur took it up home for the folks. Mon & I went up with the car. Bea rode to town with us. I went up home awhile & then went to Mrs. Lovlien's L.A.S. at the church parlors. Not so many out. Had a swell lunch. Mon & Arthur went to Mabel to get an iron welded after they got the hay unloaded. Bea rode home with us too. Loyal came home with Arthur. Mon got Dean a pair of Lee overalls at Mabel $1.70. Ed D. was here awhile in eve.

Thurs. July 22
Nice day but warm. Dean helped Geo W. today. He got thro' there today. Mon & Arthur started cutting grain early this P.M. The binder worked fine until almost quitting time it didn't work so good. We went up to Red's awhile in eve. Red was in Decorah or some place. Had a little sprinkle in the nite.

Fri. July 23
Nice day. Quite a little cooler. I washed & ironed. Dean & Loyal helped me wash. Mon & Arthur started to cut grain again this A.M. but the binder bucked again so they went up to Ludwig's & got some repairs. It worked fine in P.M. We went up town in eve. Loyal went home.

Sat. July 24
Nice day. Mon cut grain & the boys shocked. I did a little of everything. We went to B.O. in eve & then down to Red's to a dance in the new barn. Quite a few there. Had good music & a good time. Roy Halverson's Orchestra played.

Sun. July 25
Cloudy, windy, cold day. Sprinkled some in A.M. Had a shower in P.M. but it didn't do much good. Wind blew hard all day. Dust was terrible. Mon & Arthur went up town a little while in A.M. Dean was over to Howard's in A.M. & around the country in P.M. Walt R. came while we were eating supper & stayed until about 10.

Mon. July 26
Nice day but cool. Mon finished cutting grain about 5 but the boys didn't quite finish shocking. We went up town a minute at noon to get some twine. Went up town a little while in eve. Mon, Arthur & I went over to Walt's a minute.

Tues. July 27
Nice most of the day. We had a little shower about 4:30 but not very much. Mon, Arthur & I went up to Red's about 9:30 & got them & then went to B.O. & got Mama & then to Decorah. Arthur rode down to Decorah with Walt & Ray W. We didn't get home until about 4. Arthur came home with us from B.O. The boys finished shocking this A.M.

Wed. July 28
Nice day. Mon took Arthur over to Walt R's this A.M. early. He starts working for Walt hauling cream today. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean went up to Red's in A.M. with the team & got some boards too make a hay rack. Dean worked for Louie K. in P.M. Mon had to go to Prosper in P.M. to get some boards. We went up town a few minutes in eve.

Thurs. July 29
Nice day. Uncle Marion came over early in A.M. The men worked at the hay rack. Got it almost done. Mon, Marion, Bea & I went over to Florence's in P.M. to M.E.L.A.S. Quite a few out. Sure had a swell lunch. Lloyd K. was here in P.M. to look at the sows.

Fri. July 30
Nice day. Pretty warm. Mon & Dean were up to Red's in A.M. & over to Marion's. We went to Decorah in P.M. Marion went along with us. He rode home with Lovlien's.

Sat. July 31
Nice day. Pretty warm. Looked quite rainy in eve but didn't rain. Got much cooler in eve. Mon went to Prosper a little after 8 & sold the old sows. He came back with the truck when they came after the sows & then he & Dean went with the truck. They didn't get back then until after 1:30. We went to B.O. in eve. Dean stopped at Red's when we went. They Joan of Arc had an ice cream Social on Walt's lawn for the benefit of the cemetry Quite a crowd. We went over to Red's to the dance about 9:30. Not so many there early but quite a few came toward the last. Arthur came home for over Sunday. 5 sows weighed 1270 lbs. at $10 per cwt. 2 sows weighed 490 lbs. at $9 per cwt.

Sun. Aug. 1
Nice day but pretty warm & windy. Arthur went to B.O. in A.M. Dean went riding on Nell. Mon went over to Marion's late in P.M. awhile. Red was here a little while in P.M. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in eve. Queen had a little colt this morning. Little son born to Dorothy & Harold Seelye this A.M. early (Fred William).

Mon. Aug. 2
Pretty warm & windy. Plenty of dust. Mon took Arthur over to Walt's about 5 A.M. Mon went threshing at Red's this A.M. Dean did odd jobs around home. He went up to Red's in P.M. & then went to Andrew's to thresh from there. Mon came home. Jack Halse's rig is threshing up here. Had a hard rain in the nite. Lots of thunder & lightning & pretty fierce too.

Tues. Aug. 3
Rained & sprinkled off & on all A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. & eve. Quite warm though. Howard & George & Earl were here in A.M. Ed D. came about noon & stayed for dinner. Mon & I went out to the east corn field in P.M. It sure is nice. We went up town in eve. Went up home a minute. Olive & Agnes came & sat in the car with me so we had quite a visit. Loyal came home with us.

Wed. Aug. 4
Nice day. Pretty warm. I washed & ironed. Marion came over in A.M. & stayed for dinner. Mon & the boys took him home after dinner. "Happy", Gust & Howard were here in A.M. too. Arthur hauled gravel past here in P.M. & stopped a couple of times.

Thurs. Aug. 5
Nice day. Warm. Mon went up to Andrew's & helped finish their threshing & then Dean went up to Ludwig's too so they were both there. They finished at Ludwigs tonite but threshed late to do it. Didn't get done with the chores here until 8:30 & then we went up town awhile. Papa came along here just after dinner going fishing & Loyal went with him & went on home.

Fri. Aug. 6
Pretty hot day. Happy & Howard were here in A.M. They broke down with the threshing rig going to Lovliens & they didn't get it fixed to get started threshing until about 3 P.M. Mon & Dean both went. I went over to Pearls a minute just after supper.

Sat. Aug. 7
Nice day. Pretty hot. Mon & Dean threshed at Lovlien's. They got home in time for supper. Lester & Loyal were here a minute about noon. We went up town in eve. The 4. H. Clubs had an ice cream social on Webb's lawn. Mon & I went over & got ice cream. We went up to the Pavilion a little while. Didn't go in just sat in the car & listened to the music. It was good. Gossman's played. We got home about 12:30. Dean rode home with Arthur W. It rained all the way home but didn't rain enough only to lay the dust a little. Arthur didn't come home tonite. Had corn, out of the field, too eat today.

Sun. Aug. 8
Nice hot day again. Geo W. was here early in A.M. Mon went & got Arthur about 9 A.M. Gust & Kate were here awhile in A.M. We went up home for dinner. Uncle Albert, Aunt Eunice, Vin, Ella May & Sonny are here & we had a picnic dinner up home. Claude's, Lester's, Dell's, Aunt Lissa, Aunt Till & Uncle Aaron. Had a swell dinner. Arthur went to Decorah in P.M. & when he got back from there we took him to Walt's. His Sunday to do chores. Stopped at Dorothy & Harold's a minute on our way home too see the baby. He sure is nice.

Mon. Aug. 9
Nice warm day. Mon & Dean went to Elmer's threshing but Dean didn't have too stay so he came home. Plenty of help without him. Arthur & Gene Wicks were here a minute in P.M. The threshing rig moved to Dawley's about 2:30 P.M. so they threshed there the rest of P.M.

Tues. Aug. 10
Looked rainy in A.M. early & did rain later in A.M. Had a nice shower. Looked rainy the rest of the day but didn't rain. Mon went to Dawleys too thresh but they didn't thresh much. We went up town about 11. Went up to Mama's but she was down to Olive's so Dean & I went up to Isa's. Had dinner there & stayed there until about 4 & then went down to Mama's. She got home about 3. Loyal came home with us.

Wed. Aug. 11
Rained again this A.M. early & during A.M. We went up town again in P.M. I went up to Mama's. Iva Sheley & Ad were there. Isa came down a few minutes just before we came home.

Thurs. Aug. 12
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon, Dean & Loyal fixed fence in A.M. & Dean & Loyal in P.M. Mon went to Dawleys threshing in P.M. They worked late too. He runs the engine for Ed. he has a bad hand. We went over to Dave's a minute in eve & then up town a minute. Loyal went home. Arthur was hauling gravel in P.M. & he stopped 2 or 3 times.

Fri. Aug. 13
Rained some early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon went to Dawley's in P.M. to thresh. They finished there & moved to Fritz K's. I went up & helped Ruth. Dean took me up with the car & then he came back & got his team too thresh with. It was so late when they got there that they only threshed out 3 loads. I stayed & helped Ruth with the dishes & then Mon & Dean came after me.

Sat. Aug. 14
Pretty warm day. We all went up to Fritz' about 7 A.M. too help thresh. Kate was there to help Ruth too. We had a good time. Had a rather early dinner & then they went to Harry's. I walked home about 2:30. They pulled the threshing machine in here about 5. They did the chores up early & we went to Decorah. Mr. Barth rode down with us. Didn't stay down there long. Saw Ruth P. Came back to B.O. & then Arthur, Dean, Mon & I went to Canton to the "Day Off". Quite a crowd there. Didn't stay so very long up there. Stopped at the Pavilion at B.O. on our way home. The boys came home from Canton with Roy McC.

Sun. Aug. 15
Pretty hot day & terribly windy. The men were gone all A.M. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in P.M. & Dean went different places. I did some baking for the threshers. Mon & I went up to Quandahl's & Uncle Marion's in eve. Mon was sick all day & nite.

Mon. Aug. 16
Mighty hot day. 103º at noon. We threshed. Jack Halse's rig. Ed D. Alvin Barth & Mr. Forde go with the machine. Mon took Arthur to his work about 5 & then went on to Canton & got the meat. Mama came home with him. Papa came down later. Ruth helped me too. Mama, papa & Ruth went home about 2. The machine broke just as they were going to leave here & they had to go to Festina for repairs so they didn't get moved over to Howard's until about 5. We got 791 bu. of oats.

Tues. Aug. 17
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Geo. W. was here in A.M. They started threshing at Howards about 1:30. Dean went over there to thresh. I went over there too see if I could help but they said they were not going to have them for supper & Lizzie & Maxine came along & wanted me to go to B.O. with them & then go & help them cook for threshers for supper so I did. We hurried around getting things ready for supper & then Dave came & said they wouldn't be there for supper so I helped awhile & then came home. We went up town in eve awhile.

Wed. Aug. 18
Nice early in A.M. but started to cloud up about 10 & sprinkled some. Sprinkled off & on all day. Made it hard to thresh. Rained hard in eve & nite. Dean & I went over to Dave's to thresh. Got thro' there about 11:30 & then to Geo's. I went down & helped Lydia too. They got thro' there & had lunch about 4. The machine went on to Charley W's. & started threshing. I helped Lydia with the dishes & then Mon & I came home. Mon helped Geo too. Dean went on to Charley's. It was raining when Dean came home. Fair started at Decorah tonite.

Thurs. Aug. 19
Dandy nice day. I washed & did most of the ironing. Mon & Dean did a little of everything. We went up town awhile in eve.

Fri. Aug. 20
Nice day. I ironed & did a little of everything. Mon took Red's to Decorah to the Fair & P.M. He got back about 4. Left them down there. We did up the chores early & went down to the Fair in eve. Very large crowd there. The free acts were just fine. Got rather cool down there before we came home. Mon & Happy had some fun with Uncle Marion & Ole. We got home about 1.

Sat. Aug. 21
Nice cool day. Dean went threshing at Charley W's. They got thro' about 4 P.M. We went up town in eve. Arthur was over town & wanted too go to the Fair so he took the car & we came home with Fred's. Got home about 10. Arthur came home & stayed after the Fair.

Sun. Aug. 22
Nice cool day. Arthur went over to Walt's too do chores & then came back & spent the day around home. Dean went places in P.M. Claude's came about 3:30 & stayed until about 5:30. Mon & I took Arthur over to Walt's as soon as we had supper. Went up to mama's on our way home & got some dill.

Mon. Aug. 23
Nice cool day. Mon & Dean threshed at Fred's all day. I did odd jobs. Arthur & Bea were here a minute in A.M. We went over to Gust's when we got the chores done & took them to Canton too get meat for threshers. Got home about 9:30.

Tues. Aug. 24
Dandy nice day. We went over to Gust's a little after 7 to thresh. Ruth & Bea helped Kate too. Had a good time & a swell dinner. They broke the machine about 11 A.M. so they didn't get thro' until about 2:30 P.M. After they were all gone Gust, Kate, Ruth & us went up town awhile. We got home about 4:30.

Wed. Aug. 25
Pretty warm day. Mon went to B.O. in A.M. early when he got home he & I went to Decorah. Took oats down & had them hulled for the chickens. We got home about 3. Dave was here awhile after we got home. Arthur was here a minute too. Dean went to the river with him to get gravel. Fay Harvey & Genivive Noecker were married today.

Thurs. Aug. 26
Cloudy in A.M. early & then it sure rained about 9:30. Rained for about an hour & a half. Mon went over after Marion about 8 & they didn't come back until it was raining. They did some work here after it quit raining. It was sure nice in P.M. & eve. Geo. W. was over all P.M. We started to take Marion home in eve & then went up town. Mon got in a card game & Dean & I waited until after 12 for him & came home & left him up there.

Fri. Aug. 27
Hot day. I washed in A.M. Mon went down to Claude Bronner's. Red came & wanted Mon too take him to Decorah so Dean & I went along. Uncle Jim went home too from Red's. We got back home about 2:30, had a lunch & then I ironed some. Mike Blaess was here awhile in eve.

Sat. Aug. 28
Nice warm day. I was sick all day. Laid down most of the time. Mon took some oats to Canton in P.M. to have them ground. Dean went to Decorah in eve with Arthur W. Pauline Lange walked in here about 8. She had trouble with her car so Mon pushed her home & then he went on to B.O. Arthur came home tonite.

Nice day. Not so hot. Mon & I went over to Gust's a few minutes early in A.M. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in P.M. Mon went over to Marion's. (Had a big time over there). Dean was here awhile & then he went places. Mon & I went to Harmony to the Movies in eve. "Maytime". It was good. Got home about 11:30. Little son born to Tommie & Frances Knox.

Mon. Aug. 30
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon took Arthur over to Walt's early in A.M. Mon & I went to B.O. about 9:30 & took papa & mama to Decorah. Papa's back has been bad & he went to see the Dr. We stopped at Mettie's & got some apples on our way home. Got home about 1. Arthur hauled gravel again this P.M. He stopped here & Dean went with him 1 load. We listened to the Joe Louis – Tommy Farr fight in eve. Joe won 15 rounds. Good clean fight. Verna Walters started too school today.

Tues. Aug. 31
Mighty warm day. Mon & Dean went up home in A.M. too move a building for the folks. Mon drove the car & Dean the team. Mon got home about 2 & Dean some later. Geo W. was here awhile after Mon got home. Mr. Lydon was here in P.M. too. I fixed & canned 19 qts. of apples.

Wed. Sept. 1
Hot day. Mon went threshing at Philip S's. in A.M. Dean went fishing with papa. I canned 16 qts. of apples & that finished them. We went up to Red's a few minutes in eve.

Thurs. Sept. 2
Pretty hot day again. Mon & Dean took Ed D. to Caledonia in A.M. They got back about 2 & then took me to Club at Hazel Bucknell's. Not many out. Had a swell lunch. Rode back to B.O. with Dorothea R. Got home about 5. Mon & I took Red & Bea & their hired man to Decorah in eve. Red & Bea had business at Uncle Jims which took them until after 9. Stopped a few minutes on the street up town while the men got some beer. Got home about 10:20. Ruby came over about 1, with Arthur & Walt when they went after a load of rocks, & got some plums.

Fri. Sept. 3
Pretty warm in A.M. Leonard W. came over in A.M. & we went up home for dinner & then the folks went with us to the Cresco Fair. Quite a crowd there. Had a dandy shower there in P.M. & got much cooler. Pretty cold in eve. Run around in P.M. but in eve papa, mama & I went up in the Grand Stand too see the "Acts." They were sure fine. Got home about 10:20. Leonard stayed here all nite.

Sat. Sept. 4
Not such a hot day. Rather cloudy most of the day. Mon went to Mabel in A.M. to get repairs for the corn binder. Geo W. was here awhile in P.M. We went up town awhile in eve.

Sun. Sept. 5
Cool day but nice. Mon & Dean went over after Arthur about 9 A.M. & bro't papa & mama home with them too. Arthur went away with the car in P.M. & got back just as we were eating supper. Mon & I took him to his work & papa & mama home after supper. Fred W. was over in eve.

Mon. Sept. 6
Nice day. Some warmer. Mon & I went to Decorah early in A.M. Went up to Mrs. Millers a few minutes on our way home. Mon & Dean fixed the corn binder in P.M. & then we all went out to get a jag of corn. I gathered some plums & then went with them after corn. Dean went over to the Community Hall in eve a while with Roy McC.

Tues. Sept. 7
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon went over to Geo's too cut corn early in A.M. but the binder didn't work good so he went & got Marion to come over & help him fix it. They were here for dinner & Dean took Marion home in P.M. I canned tomatoes today. We went up town in eve. Stopped at Fritz & Gust's on our way up. Gust's rode up with us. Got home about 10. Bad accident up by Arthur Nash's late in P.M. Geo. Severson & a girl smashed Hod Engbretson's car.

Wed. Sept. 8
Pretty hot dusty day. Mon cut corn at Geo's. Dean & I did a little of everything. We went up to Quandahl's in eve. Ruth & Fritz rode up with us too. Some of the neighbors were there & had a party. Danced. Got home about 2.

Thurs. Sept. 9
Warm, windy, dusty day. Mon cut corn at Geo's until about 4 P.M. he broke the tongue of the binder & had to go & get another one. Dean took me over there about 10 & I helped until about 5. Lydia is sick. We took some tomatoes over & I canned some of them for her too. Rained in the nite & got much cooler.

Fri. Sept. 10
Rained off & on for awhile in A.M. Quit about 10:30 & was nice the rest of the day. Pretty windy & cool. Mon & Dean went up town about 11 & got papa to come down & help put the new tongue in the binder. They had dinner here & then went over to Geo's & fixed the binder. Took papa home about 4. I went along up too. Neal G. rode home from B.O. with us. Lester, Isa & Loyal were down after supper & got home cukes. The red heifer had a little calf this morn.

Sat. Sept. 11
Nice cool day. Got rather warm in P.M. but clouded up late in P.M. & looked pretty rainy but it only sprinkled a little. I washed & ironed. Mama & papa came down in A.M. & dug the early potatoes. Papa took mama home after dinner & then he came back & picked seed corn. Mon was over to Marion's in A.M. He & Dean got a jag of corn in P.M. & then he took Marion to Prosper. Maxine was here a few minutes in P.M. We went up town in eve. Arthur came home tonite for over Sunday.

Sun. Sept. 12
Dandy nice day. We went over to Uncle Marion's & spent the day. Albert's were there too. Had a picnic dinner. Had a good dinner & a good time. Got home about 6 & then the boys went to Decorah to the Show. Mon did chores alone. Claude Bronners were here a little while in eve.

Nice day. Mon cut corn at Geo's. Dean & I did a little of everything.

Tues. Sept. 14
Nice day. Mon & Dean were up to B.O. most of the day. Got pretty windy in P.M. Mon & I went out & got some seed corn after they got home from town & then we went over to Dave's a minute. Dave was here awhile in A.M.

Wed. Sept. 15
Cool, windy day. Mon cut corn here in A.M. & he & Dean shocked & tied it in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went up home & over to Isa's a minute. Froze hard tonite.

Thurs. Sept. 16
Nice cool day. Mon cut corn at Dave's. I made catsup. Took me most of the day. Dean did a little of everything.

Fri. Sept. 17
Nice day. Not so cold. Mon cut corn for Dave. Dean took me over to the paving & I walked a ways on the paving & then rode the rest of the way with Grant Woldum. Went to Club at the M.E. church basement. Gerthrude entertained. Quite a few out & had a dandy lunch. Rode part way home with Gladys & then Dean met us & I came the rest of the way with him.

Sat. Sept. 18
Nice day. Mon cut corn at Dave's. He came home about 4:30 too shave & get a bath. He sure was dirty. We went up town in eve. Went up to the Pavilion a few minutes. Got home about 11:30.

Sun. Sept. 19
Nice day. Mon & Dean went over & got Arthur about 9 A.M. Lester's came down & spent the day. Arthur went up to Niagra in P.M. Mon & I took him to his work as soon as we had supper. Oscar Wilbur died this A.M.

Mon. Sept. 20
Our 21st Wedding Anniversary. Nice day. Mon finished cutting corn at Dave's about 3 P.M. He & Dean went out & got a jag of corn after that. Dean & I went up to Red's a few minutes after dinner. Mon & I went to Decorah in eve to the Show. (Dean did chores). "Wee Willie Winkie". Shirley Temple & it sure was good. The Joan of Arc had a weiner roast at Bill Jacobson's this eve also.

Tues. Sept. 21
Nice windy day. Mon went over to Marion's early in A.M. & then up to B.O. We had an early dinner & then took some oats to Decorah to get them hulled for the chickens. Mon got a new pair of shoes. Oscar Wilbur was buried today.

Wed. Sept. 22
Pretty warm windy day. We got up quite early & Mon went out a little after 6 to cut corn. He cut until 10 & then he & Dean shocked up what he had cut. They got thro' at noon. Mama & Lester came down early in A.M. & dug the late potatoes. We all helped in P.M. Got thro' about 4. Didn't get many potatoes tho'. Mon went over to Marion's awhile after we got thro' with the potatoes.

Thurs. Sept. 23
Warm windy day. The dust was terrible. We got up early again & Mon cut corn until 9. He & Dean shocked that up in A.M. They picked up corn after the binder in P.M. I did a little of everything. Mon & Dean went up town a few minutes in eve. It rained in eve & almost all nite I guess.

Fri. Sept. 24
Rained some in A.M. & looked quite rainy but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon cut corn in P.M. & Dean shocked. They went up town a little while in eve.

Sat. Sept. 25
Nice day. Rather windy. Mon cut corn in A.M. & Dean shocked & they both shocked in P.M. I washed, ironed & scrubbed. We went up town in eve. Dean went to Decorah with Arthur W. & didn't come home with us. Arthur didn't come home either. We got home about 11. Pretty cold nite. We got a barrel of kerosene today.

Sun. Sept. 26
Nice day. Mon & Dean went & got Arthur this morn. We went up home & spent the day. Lester's were there awhile after dinner & Olive & the kids were there in P.M. too. Dean went hunting in P.M. Mon, the boys & I went to Decorah to the Show in eve. "Topper" & it sure was funny.

Mon. Sept. 27
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & looked quite rainy. Nice in eve though. Rained hard in the nite. On took Arthur over to Walt's early in A.M. & then took Dean to Mabel about 8. Dean had a tooth pulled. Mon cut corn after they got home until noon. Uncle Marion came over after dinner & they tore down the old garage. Mon & I took Marion home in eve.

Tues. Sept. 28
Rained most of A.M. & was pretty cool. Quit raining about noon but was cloudy all day. Mon & Dean got a little jag of corn in P.M.

Wed. Sept. 29
Not very nice in A.M. early but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon cut corn in P.M. & shocked. They both shocked in P.M. Marion came over in P.M. & helped shock too. We went up town a little while in eve & Marion went home from there with Lovlien's.

Thurs. Sept. 30
Looked rainy off & on all day but didn't rain until eve. Mon finished cutting corn about 10. Marion came over & they finished shocking & tying at noon. Mon took me to Club at Florence's at noon. Quite a few out. Had a swell lunch. I rode back to the four corner's with Lorna & Gerthrude & Vera & walked home from there. Mon & Dean helped Marion in P.M.

Fri. Oct. 1
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all A.M. Didn't rain in P.M. but was cloudy & damp. Mon & Dean did odd jobs in A.M. & Mon went over & helped Marion in P.M.

Sat. Oct. 2
Quite a nice day. Mon & Dean picked up corn in A.M. & picked seed corn & picked corn for the hogs in P.M. Looked rather rainy in eve but didn't rain. We went up town in eve. Dean went to Decorah with Arthur W. Arthur came home with us & stayed all nite.

Sun. Oct. 3
Dandy nice day. Dean went hunting. Mon, Arthur & I went to Claude's & spent the day. Had a good time. The boys went hunting in P.M. & got 5 squirrels. They gave them to us to bring home so we gave them to Arthur to take to Walt's. We took him over there as soon as we got back from Claude's. Uncle Aaron was at Claude's too. Dean & Geo & Earl went coon hunting in eve.

Cloudy, gloomy, misty day. Mon helped Marion all day. They came over here for dinner.

Tues. Oct. 5
Cloudy & misty in A.M. but cleared off about 3 P.M. & was very nice. Mon helped Marion all day.

Wed. Oct. 6
Nice bright day but windy & cool. Mon helped Marion. Dean helped me wash in A.M. He husked corn in P.M. & I ironed.

Thurs. Oct. 7
Nice part of the time & cloudy part of the time. Rather cool. Mon & Dean helped Marion again today. They put in the wall of the cellar today. He had quite a few men to help him. I washed curtains & some other things & did quite a few other things today. Pearl & Darlene were over in A.M. Howard & Fred were here in eve. Dean went coon hunting with Geo.

Papa & Mama's 47th Wedding Anniversary. Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & looked quite rainy. Rained most of the nite I guess. Mon & Dean husked corn in A.M. & picked up in P.M. Howard was here awhile late in P.M.

Sat. Oct. 9
Rained off & on all day. Quite a bit in A.M. Sun shone awhile in P.M. & it was nice in eve. We didn't do much of anything all day. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in eve. Arthur came home with them.

Dandy nice day. Quite warm. We went up home & spent the day. Had a picnic dinner for papa's folks. Edward & Mary, Lena & Clifford, James Aasum's, Walt Barths, Claude's & us. Had a swell dinner & a good time. We got home about 5:30. Ed D. was here a little while after we got home. He & Red & Bea were coming home from Decorah last nite & a car rammed into them & tipped them over & finished the car. They didn't get hurt only bruised. Arthur went to the show in eve.

Dandy day. Quite warm. Mon & Dean husked in A.M. Dean picked up corn in P.M. & Mon went to Prosper. He helped Dean after he got back. I did a little of everything.

Tues. Oct. 12
Not very nice day. Did a little of everything. Froze quite hard tonite. Vern & Lena Porter were over & spent the evening.

Wed. Oct. 13
Nice day. Cool. We sold some young roosters this A.M. Mon went up & got Mama in A.M. & she helped me the rest of the day. We took her home about 5. Mon & Dean husked corn in P.M.

Thurs. Oct. 14
Dandy nice day. Mon helped Marion. Olive came over about 8 A.M. & helped me. Leonard walked over about 11:30. Dean went to meet him. They went hunting in P.M. I had Club in P.M. Quite a few out. Planned the oyster supper. Mon & I took Olive home about 5. Leonard rode part way & then walked down across the woods. Lloyd K. was here in A.M. too look at some stock. Mon & I went up to Red's in eve.

Fri. Oct. 15
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & got cooler. I washed in A.M. Mon took the old stag the old red cow & a veal calf to Prosper. We went to Decorah in P.M. Lizzie went with us. Got home about 5:30. The I.O.O.F. had a dance in the hall this eve but we didn't go. Stag - 430 lbs. @ .8¢ (dock of 70 lb.) Calf - 140 lbs. @ .10¢ Cow - 880 lbs. @ 2½. $64.80. Snowed most of the nite I guess.

Sat. Oct. 16
Not very nice day. Snowed in A.M. for awhile. Sprinkled off & on all day. Rather cool. We went to B.O. in A.M. & took papa & mama to Decorah. Dean stayed at B.O. Got back to B.O. about 3. Stayed there awhile. Got home some after 5. Mon was rather bad off.

Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. We were alone all day. Arthur didn't get home. Dean was over to Howards awhile in P.M.

Not very nice day. Cloudy & misty & cold. Mon & Dean husked corn in P.M. I did a little of everything.

Rainy, cloudy, cold day. We went to B.O. in A.M. & spent the day. I went up home. Mon & Dean were there for dinner. Ad & Aunt Alice were at mama's in P.M. The roads are not very good. Howard was here awhile about suppertime.

Sun shone some during the day but not much. Windy & cold. Mon & Dean husked corn.

Thurs. Oct. 21
Cloudy, windy, cold day. Misted & rained some during the day. We went to Mabel about 9 & Mon had 2 or 3 teeth pulled & Dean 1 pulled & 1 filled. Got home about 12. Elmer G. was here awhile at noon.

Fri. Oct. 22
Cold, gloomy, windy day. Red came down about 10 & started plowing north of the house. He plowed until 5 & then Mon took him home. Mon & Dean husked corn. Clarence Christen & Albert Hammersness were here in A.M. & appraised the place.

Sat. Oct. 23
Quite a nice day. Not quite so cold. Red plowed here again today. Ole Stockman came & got him about 5 P.M. Mon & Dean husked corn. Loyal rode the pony down this A.M. He went home about 4 P.M. Clem Brace ground feed here in P.M. We went up town in eve. The M.E.L.A.S. had a chicken supper at the church this eve, but it was so late when we got up town I didn't go. Mon & I came home about 10:30. The boys rode home with Arthur W. Arthur P. came home & stayed all nite. Snowed some in the nite.

Sun. Oct. 24
Not so nice early in A.M. but cleared off & was a dandy day. We left home about 9:45 & got Uncle Marion & went to Lansing. Drove around there awhile. Went up on Memoril Park & then down town & had our dinner. Saw Floyd Ferris & talked with him a few minutes. We left Lansing at 1:50 & went across the toll bridge into Wisconsin & then up the river to La Crosse. Stopped at Geno & inspected the big dam. Went from LaX to La Crescent & Hokah then on to Rushford & Lanesboro & then home. Took Uncle Marion to the mail boxes & then he walked from there. We got home about 6:40. They did up the chores & then we had supper. Fried some fish we bought at Lansing. We traveled about 180 miles. Sure enjoyed it very much. The scenery was beautiful along the river.

Mon. Oct. 25
Nice day. Mon & Dean husked corn in A.M. & picked up corn in P.M. I did a little of everything. Happy was here & spent the eve.

Tues. Oct. 26
Dandy day. Papa came down early in A.M. & helped Mon & Dean husk corn all day. I washed in A.M. Mama & Ruth P. came down about 11:30 & stayed until about 4. Geo W. was here awhile in eve & then he & Mon went up town awhile. Guy Masters died tonite.

Wed. Oct. 27
Dandy day. Papa came down again this A.M. & helped husk corn today. Red came down & plowed until about the middle of the P.M. Howard Bradley came about 11 to trade cars & he was here for dinner too. He took Mon for a ride before dinner & Mon & I after dinner. We went over to Walt's so that Arthur could see the car & then Howard, Arthur & I went to B.O. & back to Walt's for Arthur too ride in it. We got back home about 1:30. Pearl came along & I went to Lutheran L.A.S. with her. Kate L. entertained at the church. Not many out. She had a swell lunch.

Thurs. Oct. 28
Dandy day. We left home about 8:45 went & got Red & Bea & went to the corn husking contest down south of Decorah on the Calmar road. They estimated between 3500 & 3800 person's there. Ladies contest at 9:30 & then the men. Mrs. Francis Gossman won the ladies contest & Mr. Westby the men. Lester husked but he didn't win out. We got back to Decorah about 12:30 & run around town then until after 4. Howard was over in eve. The white cow had a calf today.

Fri. Oct. 29
Beautiful day. Just like summer. Papa came down & he & Dean husked corn in A.M. Mon & Red went to Decorah & too see about shredding in A.M. Mon got home about 12:30. Papa went home after dinner. Mon, Dean, Lizzie & I went to B.O. in P.M. We went to Bill Winter's funeral at the Lutheran church at 1:30. (He died at Waterloo & was bro't here for burial.) Very large crowd out. Went to Guy Master's funeral at the M.E. Church at 2:45. Very large crowd there. Isa & I stopped at Koenig's on our way down from the M.E. Church & visited the Winter's family a minute. Got home about 5:30. Went up to the school house in eve. Halloween Program. It was just fine. Quite a crowd there. Had a lunch after the program. Maxine rode up with us. Got home about 10:30.

Sat. Oct 30
Dandy day. Papa came down & helped husk again today. Mon took me to B.O. about 1:30 too get ready for the "Oyster Supper." The Joan of Arc had their annual "Oyster Supper" at the Hall in eve. Large crowd out. Got rid of a lot of soup & other food. We came home about 10. Took Marion home on our way home.

Sun. Oct 31
Nice day. Rather windy. Roy McC. came early in A.M. & he & Dean went hunting. Dean got back about 1:30. Mon went over after Arthur about 9. They went down to Claude Bronner's in A.M. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in P.M. Mr. & Mrs. Howard Bradley & 2 children were here in P.M. We took Arthur over to Walt's as soon as he got back from the show. Stopped up home a minute on our way over. Howard was here awhile in P.M.

Mon. Nov. 1
Dandy day again. Papa & Uncle Marion helped husk again today. It clouded up in P.M. & sprinkled some but didn't last long soon cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. The men came in about 4 & papa went home then. We took Marion home after supper & then went up home & got papa & mama & took them over to Walt's with us. Bradley brot the 1935 Chev. up at noon for us to try. Arthur drove it a little way. We got back to mama's & I stayed there while Dean & Mon went down town awhile.

Tues. Nov. 2
Dandy nice day. Papa came down & helped husk corn. Uncle Marion came & helped too. We took him home in eve.

Wed. Nov. 3
Quite a nice day but rather windy. Mon & Dean finished husking corn about 10:30 A.M. I washed in A.M. Mon went up to Red's awhile after they got in from the field. Dave came over at noon & went to Decorah with us. Red went too. Very large crowd in town. We traded our 1931 Chevy for Bradley's 1935. It sure is a dandy. Got home about 5. Mon & I went up town in eve. I went up home. Dean went over to Howards.

Thurs. Nov. 4
Not such a nice day. Windy & cooler. Mon & Dean went & got Marion in A.M. & Mon & Marion started fixing a rack too shred in. Dean did odd jobs. He put some straw in the cellar way. They all went to B.O. in eve.

Fri. Nov. 5
Nice day but cool. Mon went & got Marion in A.M. & then finished the rack & put the roofing on the barn. Dean finished filling the cellar way & banked the house. I went over to Pearl's a few minutes in P.M.

Sat. Nov. 6
Nice day. We didn't do so very much of anything. Went up town in eve. Maxine rode up with us. Arthur came home with us. Got home about 10:30.

Sun. Nov. 7
Quite a nice day. Clouded up some in P.M. & sprinkled a little. We did up our work & then went up home about 9:30 & got the folks & went to Ruth & Francis' & spent the day. Sure had a good time & a swell dinner. Arthur, Dean, Ruth, Mama & I took a ride in P.M. Went to Postville & then on thro' there & out past where Ruth used to live. We got back home here about 5:30. Arthur went to Decorah to the show in eve. Richard B. was here awhile after we got home. We had a hard rain in the nite. Thunder lightning & hail also.

Mon. Nov. 8
Nice day but pretty windy. We got up early & Arthur started out on foot for Walt's. They thought the roads would be pretty muddy for the new car. I called Ruby & she said Roy would come to meet Arthur. I washed & ironed. Mon went to Chase's to shred in P.M.

Tues. Nov. 9
Dandy nice day. Mon went to Chase's in A.M. & Jarstad's in P.M. too shred. We went to B.O. in eve. Mon, Agnes, Eileen & I went over to Walt's a few minutes.

Wed. Nov. 10
Dandy day. Mon shredded at Jarstads in A.M. & Harry's in P.M. Dean went over to Harry's in P.M. & helped in Mon's place awhile & we went up to Ole's & Red's too see about shredding help. We went up town in eve awhile. The shredder moved over here tonite. Winfield Benders shredder. Donald Gates & Jeanette Anderson were married today.

Thurs. Nov. 11
Dandy day. Mon went & got mama about 5:30 A.M. too help me with shredders. Bea came down & helped too. They finished here around 2 P.M. & went to Howard's. Uncle Marion helped shred here & then he stayed here in P.M. & cleaned up the corn & fodder. "Happy" took mama home & me to Club at Ruth Greenslade's. Quite a crowd out & she sure had a swell lunch. I rode home with Gladys. Mon took Marion home in eve.

Fri. Nov. 12
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & got cooler. Mon & Dean helped Howard finish shredding in A.M. & then on to Dave's. I went over to Daves about 11 & stayed until about 3:30. Bernice & Marie were there helping Lizzie. Geo W. came over in eve & we planned his shredder's dinner. The kids there have the chicken pox so they couldn't feed them in the house. We took him to Bluffton too see about his help. Lou Brandt died today.

Sat. Nov. 13
Not very nice day. Rained off & on all day. Cold too. Dean went to Geo's too shred. Mon & I went to Decorah too get lunch for Geo. Mama went along too. We got home about 11:10 & made the sandwiches & fixed the rest of the lunch & Mon went over with it about 11:30. He stayed there then until they finished shredding. They got home about 3. We went up town a little while in eve. It snowed mighty hard for awhile. We took Marion home from town.

Sun. Nov. 14
Rained off & on all day. Cold & windy. We went up town about 12:30. I went to Alberta's too practice. Arthur, Philip, ‘Bert & I sang "Abide With Me" & "It Is Well With My Soul", for Lou Brandt's funeral at the M.E. church. Zoa played. Large crowd out. Arthur came home with us from town & then took our car back with him. Froze quite hard tonite.

Mon. Nov. 15
Cold, gloomy windy day. Mon shredded at Fred Walter's. He got home about 4. Geo. was here awhile early in eve & Arthur was here later in eve. Mon got a puppy at Fred's today. Rex.

Tues. Nov. 16
Cold windy day again. Mon & Dean went over to Marion's in A.M. & got some boards. Mon shredded at Chase's in P.M. Mama, Isa & Ruth P. were here & spent the P.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Wed. Nov. 17
Quite a nice day. Not so cold. Mon & Dean helped Red stack corn fodder today. Gladys A. was down awhile in P.M. I got the first pullet egg today. Arthur bro't the car home in eve & then we took him back to Walt's & stopped at B.O. on our way home.

Thurs. Nov. 18
Not such a nice day. Snowed off & on all day. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & they butchered a pig after dinner. Mon & I took Marion home about 3 & then went on to Decorah with the geese. Sold all of them the 8 weighed 103 lbs. @ 15¢ per lb. $15.45. We got back home about 5. Geo W. killed Sport this P.M.

Fri. Nov. 19
Not very nice day. Snowed off & on all day. Sometimes quite blustery. We went down to Claude Bronner's & to Bluffton & did some trading in A.M. Went to B.O. in P.M. Up home a minute. Mon went down to Claude B's. & got a pig about 3:30. We went over to Uncle Marion's in eve. Took Red & Bea along. Had a surprise party on him. His 67th Birthday. Lovlien's, McCauley's, Ole's & Albert's were there too. Played cards. Had a swell lunch. Got home about 11:30. Pretty cold.

Sat. Nov. 20
Quite a nice day. Didn't do much of anything. We went up town in eve. Arthur came home with us. Got home about 9:30. Sat up & listened to the radio for awhile. Mighty cold nite. Shower for Mr. & Mrs. Donald Gates at the Hall but we didn't go. The men put the paper on the doors & the storm windows on in P.M.

Sun. Nov. 21
Dandy day. Mon & Arthur went over to Uncle Marion's in A.M. & he came home with them for dinner. He walked home in P.M. Dean went to meet Leonard & Marion in A.M. & they went hunting. Got back here as we were eating dinner & had their dinner & then they went hunting in P.M. again. We all went to Decorah to the movies in eve. Went to the Grand to "The Barriers". It was fine. Pretty cold nite.

Mon. Nov. 22
Dandy day. Mon took Arthur over to Walt's early in A.M. They had to hitch Jack on the car too get it started & so Mon went over to Ern's when he came back from Walt's & waited for Roy too come & got a new battery. He didn't get home for his breakfast then until about 9. He & Dean cleaned the hen house in P.M.

Tues. Nov. 23
Not so nice in A.M. early but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Mon & Dean worked at the hen house. We went to B.O. in P.M. & Mon went on up to Prosper & got some stuff for the hen house. I stayed at mamas.

Wed. Nov. 24
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean worked at the hen house. Mon went & got Marion in PM. & they finished fixing the hen house. Mon took Marion home in eve. Dean went over to Howard's.

Thurs. Nov. 25
Dandy day. Thanksgiving Day. We went up home & spent the day. Had a swell feed. Claude's, Lester's, Dell's & Aunt Lissa & Aunt Till were there too. Had a good time. Arthur was there for dinner too. Loyal came home with us.

Fri. Nov. 26
Dandy day. Dean & Loyal went over to Marion's in A.M. with the team & wagon too help him haul up his corn fodder & some wood. Mon went over with the car & then they all came over here for dinner. Mon took me to Club at Catherine Hedgvedt's in P.M. Agnes Eileen & Lorna P. rode with us from B.O. Quite a crowd out. Had a swell lunch. Got home about 5. Mon & I went up & got Bea & Red & went to Bluffton in eve & did some trading.

Sat. Nov. 27
Started to rain early in A.M. & then turned too sleet & had everything slippery & then snowed most of the day. Didn't do much of anything. Carried the chickens to the hen house in P.M. Dean went over to Howard's & Dave's & to B.O. a minute with Art W. in eve.

Sun. Nov. 28
Dandy day but cool. Mon went over & got Arthur in A.M. Loyal went home with him. Brought papa & mama along home with him too & they spent the day with us. Papa fell down the back steps (up home) this A.M. & hurt his arm. Arthur went to the show at Decorah in P.M. Dean drove the team & sled around awhile. Mon took the folks & Arthur back about 5.

Mon. Nov. 29
Nice day but cool. Mon went over & got Marion early in A.M. & then we went & got papa & mama & went to Decorah. Papa went too see about his arm. No bones were broken, just bruised. Quite a crowd in town. I got a hair cut & a fright too. Bea rode home from Decorah with us. Stopped in B.O. a few minutes on our way home. Dean didn't go.

Tues. Nov. 30
Nice bright day but cool. Red came down about 10 A.M. & we all went to the Sale at Len Morrison's. The Joan of Arc served lunch. Did quite well. We came home about 3. Stopped at B.O. a little while on our way home.

Wed. Dec. 1
Not a very nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon took a load of corn fodder up to the folks. Pearl & Howard went to Decorah in P.M. & Verna & Darlene stayed with us. Otto Olson Bea's uncle was hurt in the woods down by the Dam this P.M. late & died at the Hospital about 8.

Thurs. Dec. 2
Nice day but rather a raw south wind. Thawed quite a little. Mon took Dean & I to B.O. about 1:30 & then took Red to Decorah. Bea is staying down there. I went to the M.E.L.A.S. dinner & Sale. Waited on table. Swell dinner. Large crowd. We got home about 4:30. Mon & Fritz went to B.O. in eve to Lodge.

Fri. Dec. 3
Cloudy, misty damp day. Thawed quite a lot. Dean went over & helped Louie K. until about 4. There was a young man here getting subscribers for papers in A.M. & stayed for dinner. The Ford dealer from Decorah was here in P.M. trying too trade cars with Mon.

Sat. Dec. 4
Bright day but cold & windy. Mon & Dave sold cattle in A.M. We sold the 3 titted cow. Orville Sheley's truck hauled them. The men didn't get back until after 1. Waited to bring Maxine home from school. Harlan walked down in A.M. We went up town in P.M. I went up home. Got home about 4:30. Gust & Ed D. rode home with us. Mon, Dean & Harlan went to B.O. in eve. Harlan went home. Arthur came home & stayed all nite. Dean went to Decorah so he didn't get home until later. Otto Olson's funeral was this P.M. The cow weighed 860 lbs. @ 3.00 per cwt.

Sun. Dec. 5
Cold, windy day. Mon went over to see Mr. Lovlien in A.M. He is not very well. In bed most of the time. Mon & I went to Decorah to the show in P.M. Jane Withers in "Wild & Wooly". It was sure good. We got home about 4. Arthur started to take Maxine down to Roy's with their car & it froze up just after they got past the corner so they came back & we had supper & then Arthur went to Decorah to the show. He took Maxine to Roys on his way down. He took our car on to Walt's after the show & didn't come home.

Mon. Dec. 6
Cold day. Rather stormy early in A.M. but cleared off & was quite nice the rest of the day. Dave was over in A.M. & again in P.M. Arthur bro't the car home late in P.M. & then Mon had to take him back to Walt's. We went to B.O. in eve & took Fritz & Ruth along to a free show at the Hall given by the Standard Oil Co. We got 5 gal's of gas as a prize. Got home about 10. Quite a bit warmer tonite. Snowed in the nite.

Tues. Dec. 7
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & wasn't too bad in P.M. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. & then Marion came home with him to dinner. The men all went over to Ted Kimber's to the Sale a few minutes in P.M. Came back here & got Marion some oats & then Mon took him home. Howard was here at noon awhile. Got colder in the nite. Mrs. Andrew Erickson died early this A.M.

Wed. Dec. 8
Cold, blustery day. Quite a blizzard at times. What snow there was drifted quite a bit. Mon & I went to Decorah about 11:30. Mon got a new jacket & I got some underwear. Went to B.O. on our way home. Went up home & got a quarter of a beef (The folks butchered their calf.) Got home about 1:30. Howard came over about 3:30 & Mon took him to Decorah too see the Dr. about Verna. She has the chicken pox & is quite sick. Dr. came out so Howard rode home with him. Mon got home about 5 & they came a little while after. Pretty cold nite. Wind blew hard all nite. Mag had a calf tonite.

Thurs. Dec. 9
Cold, windy blustery day. Mon went over to Howard's in A.M. Verna is better today. Didn't do much but try & keep warm. Howard was here awhile about suppertime. Dean went over there in eve.

Fri. Dec. 10
Pretty cold in A.M. but not so windy. Warmed up some in P.M. Mon went over to Marions in A.M. Geo. W. was here awhile in P.M. Mrs. Erickson was buried at Hesper this P.M.

Sat. Dec. 11
Quite a nice day. Not so cold & no wind. Mon went over & got Marion in A.M. & he was here for dinner. We all went up town in P.M. I went up home. Aunt Alice was there a few minutes. We took Marion home & then we got home about 5. Dean went to Decorah with Frank Gates in eve.

Sun. Dec. 12
Snowed off & on all day. Not so cold. Mon went over & got Arthur this A.M. & then he went over to Geo's & got a half of a sheep. Frank Gates was here for dinner & then the boys went all went hunting & skating. They got back here about 2:30 & Frank went on home. We made ice cream after they got home. Mon took Arthur back to Walt's about 4:30.

Mon. Dec. 13
Snowed off & on all A.M. but was rather nice in P.M. & eve. Mon & I went over too see Mr. Lovlien in P.M. He was pretty bad this A.M. but better this P.M. Stopped at Uncle Marion's a minute on our way home. We went down to Claude's in eve. Took 3 roosters down & exchanged this Olive. She has a new cook stove & they have a new radio. We listened to the Schmeling Thomas fight. Schmeling won a technical knockout in the 8th round. We got home about 11.

Tues. Dec. 14
Cloudy, gloomy day. Mon went & got Uncle Marion & then we went up & got mama & went to Decorah. Very large crowd in town. We got back to B.O. about 3:30. Stopped there a few minutes. Neil G. rode home from B.O. with us. We took Marion home on our way home. Rained some all the way home & for awhile after we got home. Dean stayed at home.

Wed. Dec. 15
Cloudy, gloomy day again. Pearl & Howard went to Decorah about 10:30 & left the girls here. They got home about 4. Mon & Dean went to B.O.

Thurs. Dec. 16
Cloudy, misty day again. Not so cold. Didn't do much of anything. We went to B.O. in eve. Ruth & Fritz went with us. Ruth & I went up home & the men went to Lodge. Dean spent the eve down town. Mettie & Aunt Lissa were there & spent the eve too. We took Uncle Marion home after Lodge on our way home. Ran into a dog. Pretty foggy at times. Got home about 12.

Fri. Dec. 17
Dandy nice day. Sun shone most of the day. I washed in A.M. Mon went over to Marion's in A.M. He took me to Club at Maude J's. in P.M. Quite a few out. Election of officer's. Iona Moran Pres. Agnes Wicks V. Pres. Gladys Albertson Sec. Dorothea Reed Asst. Sec. & Florence Erickson Treas. Maude Reed died this A.M. early.

Sat. Dec. 18
Cloudy day again. Some cooler. Mon & Dean went to B.O. in P.M. Marion came home to supper with them & then they went back to B.O. in eve. Arthur came home with them. Snowed in the night.

Sun. Dec. 19
Snowed off & on all day. Sun shone a little while. Got somewhat colder later in P.M. We went up to Lester's for dinner. The folks & Claude's were there too. I went down to Alberta's to practice about 1 & then on up to the M.E. Church too sing for Maude Reed's funeral. Arthur, Philip, Albert & I sang "Home of the Soul" & "Going Down the Valley". There was a large crowd out. We took Arthur over to Walt's after the funeral & then we came home. Howard was over awhile after we got home.

Mon. Dec. 20
Not so nice early in A.M. snowed some. But cleared up & was a beautiful day. Mon went over to Marion's with the team & hauled up his wood he had cut.

Tues. Dec. 21
Not so nice in A.M. but got brighter in P.M. Mon & I went to B.O. about 11 too mail Xmas cards. Got back about 11:30. Mon & Dean helped Marion saw wood in P.M. Geo. W. was here in A.M. & Howard in eve.

Wed. Dec. 22
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon helped Red saw wood in P.M. & then he went to B.O. afterward so it was supper time when he got home.

Thurs. Dec. 23
Quite a nice day but chilly. I rode up to the school house in P.M. with Pearl to the Xmas program. Dean rode up with Mon & Mon went on to B.O. They sure had a nice program. & the tree & decorations were very pretty. Got home about 3 & made some Xmas candy after I got home. Mon & Fritz went to B.O. to Lodge in eve & Dean went sliding. It snowed some in the nite.

Fri. Dec. 24
Quite a nice day. Dave was over in A.M. I made some more candy in P.M. Maxine came over in eve & went to B.O. with us. She & I went to the Xmas program at the M.E. Church. Large crowd out & a fine program. Got home about 10:30.

Sat. Dec. 25
Dandy Xmas day. We went up home & spent the day. Lester's were there too. Arthur was there too. Dean went over to Howard's in eve & then to B.O. with Arthur W. The white faced heifer had a calf this A.M.

Sun. Dec. 26
Beautiful day. Dean did up his chores & then went sliding. Mon & I went over after Arthur about 10:30. He took the car after dinner & went over where the kids were sliding (over by Dawleys'.) They did up the chores here early & then about 6:20 we took Arthur over to Walt's & stayed & spent the eve. Got home about 11.

Mon. Dec. 27
Rained & sleeted in A.M. but was quite warm. Got colder in P.M. & brightened up some. Howard was over awhile in A.M. We went to B.O. in P.M. I went up home. Isa & Loyal were there. Today is Isa's birthday. Very nice in eve & nite.

Tues. Dec. 28
Dandy nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon & Dean put a fence around the straw pile in A.M. & Mon went to Marions in P.M. & then took him to Mabel.

Wed. Dec. 29
Gloomy dark damp day. Manford Wickett came about 8 too look at the hogs & then came back a little later & stayed until after 10 trying to buy them. Uncle Aaron came over about 9 & stayed until about 2. Dave came over in P.M. & then he & Mon & Dean went to B.O. awhile.

Thurs. Dec. 30
Dark gloomy misty day again. Roads rather slippery. Mon sold the hogs to Lloyd K. this A.M. We had 1 load & part of another & Howard put in some in our last load. I went up home when they took the last load. Dean went along to Prosper & Mabel. Papa did too from B.O. Had dinner up home after they got back. Dean got a hair cut in B.O. We went over to Howards in eve. Arthur W. & Ed D were there. Raining & mighty slippery when we came home. Arthur drove down this way this A.M. on his way to Decorah with the cream. Stayed a few minutes. Ruby R. had an operation at La Crosse this A.M. 42 hogs 8590 @ $7.70 - $661.43. Hauling 3.50 leaving $657.93.

Fri. Dec. 31
Much warmer this A.M. Most of the ice melted off. Rather gloomy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Thawed a lot. Got colder late in P.M. & pretty cold & windy in the nite. Mon went over & got Marion about 10 & we went to Decorah. Dean got new shoes & slippers & I got a hair cut. Had to wait until about 4 before the men were ready too come home. Fred W. rode home with us & Dean stayed in Decorah with Arthur W. & they came home in the nite. Marion stayed here & helped with the chores & then they went to B.O. & forgot to come home. The jersey heifer had a calf this A.M.
