Wed. Jan. 1
Not very nice day. Rained & snowed all day & eve. Not hard but just enough to be damp. We went up to Lester's & spent the day. Papa & mama & Claude's were there too. Had a dandy dinner & a good time. Mon & I went over to Happy's in eve. Leonard, Bertha & Clifford Mc. were there too. The men played cards. We got home about 12.

Thurs. Jan. 2
Cloudy, misty day. Not cold. Thawed quite a little. We went up town in P.M. I went up home & Mon & the boys went too Prosper. Our new stove came from Montgomery Ward. Mon bought some coal & a new stock tank so the truck bro't that down & bro't the stove too. Mon came with the truck. The boys & I got home a little while before they got here. Loyal came home with us. Richard came over just after Mon got home & they took most of the crate off the stove. We went up town again in eve. Mon & Arthur went to Lodge. Loyal & I went up home & Dean stayed down town. We got home about 12:30.

Fri. Jan. 3
Cloudy, misty, snowy day. Richard came over early in A.M. & they put the new stove together & set it up. It sure looks different than the old one. Arthur went down to visit Billie's school in P.M. Richard & Dean chopped wood in P.M. & Mon, Loyal & I went up town. Sheared a key out of the hind axle of the car on our way up & had to get a key at Haugen's too fix it. Stopped at Gordon's a minute on our way up town. Went up home. Papa is quite sick today. Mettie & Mrs. Geo. Brown were there too.

Sat. Jan. 4
Quite a blizzard most of the day & quite cold. Lester was down awhile in A.M. We went to Decorah about noon (Took Loyal to B.O. on our way). Richard went to Decorah with us. Quite a crowd in town. Saw Ruth & Francis.

Sun. Jan. 5
Quite a nice day. Sun shone all day & quite a little warmer. Dean went hunting. Mon, Arthur & I went up home. Papa feels better. Lester & Isa were there awhile in P.M. We went over to Dave's in eve.

Mon. Jan. 6
Snowy in A.M. but was quite nice in P.M. Gordon came down in A.M. & got the team to haul in corn fodder. Mon helped Jack W. saw wood in A.M. & helped Gordon in P.M. Richard chopped wood. School's started again today. Arthur drove the car.

Tues. Jan. 7
Not very nice day. Cloudy & cool. Mon & Richard went to B.O. & Prosper in P.M. Arthur walked too school today. I washed.

Wed. Jan. 8
Snowed almost all day. Not cold. Arthur walked too school. Emmett Knox the assessor was here at noon. As soon as he went Mon & I went over to Arthur Smith's to their 28th Wedding Anniversary. Between 70 & 80 there. Had a swell dinner & a good time. Went to B.O. & Arthur rode home with us.

Thurs. Jan. 9
Not such a bad day. Cloudy part of the day. Arthur walked too school. Mon & I went to B.O. about 11 & Mon helped papa fix our sled. I went too Club at Hilda Erickson's in P.M. with Joe & Iona. Arthur rode home from B.O. with us. Mon & Arthur went back to Lodge in eve. Dean went over to Howard's.

Fri. Jan. 10
Nice day but cold. Mon went to B.O. & helped papa haul his stove home. He bought Ted Guthrude's stove at their sale. Mon drove the team. Arthur drove the car.

Sat. Jan. 11
Sun shone again. The boys & I went to B.O. in A.M. early & then papa went with us to Decorah. Got back to B.O. about 1. Had dinner there & came home about 3. Olive & Marie were at mama's in P.M. too.

Sun. Jan. 12
Not such a nice day. Didn't do much of anything. The boys went hunting. Howard & Pearl & the girls were over in P.M.

Mon. Jan. 13
Pretty cold early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Mon went up to Gordon's a few minutes in P.M.

Tues. Jan. 14
Nice day. Got some colder in P.M. I washed & did a lot of other things. Mon took the mules up for Gordon too use in A.M. He got home about noon. Howard was over awhile late in P.M.

Wed. Jan. 15
Rather cloudy day & cooler. Ruth & Francis came about 2:30. We went up to Ole's a little while in P.M. Went to B.O. in eve. The I.O.O.F. had a dance in the Hall. Good big crowd & sure had a swell time. Frank O'Brien, Grace Gossman & Leo Wilson played. Fine music. Got home about 2.

Thurs. Jan. 16
Nice day but cool. Mon took Lizzie & I up to Gladys to L.A.S. about 11 & then he went over to Helped Gordon butcher. He came back after us about 3:30. The men didn't go to Lodge in eve.

Fri. Jan. 17
Rather nice in A.M. but got to snowing & blowing in P.M. & was sure pretty wild late in P.M. & eve. Francis & Ruth came about 10:30. Mon & Francis went down to Roy Snells in P.M. They got back about 4 & then Ruth & Francis went home. Arthur got home at noon. They finished their tests early so were let out.

Sat. Jan. 18
Pretty much of a blizzard early in A.M. but let up almost entirely later. Nice & bright but rather cool. Mon & the boys drove the team to B.O. in A.M. I didn't go along too cool & blustery. They got home about 4:30. Richard was here awhile after they got home.

Sun. Jan. 19
Nice day but cold. We were home all day alone. The boys went hunting awhile in P.M. & were also over to Dave's. Howard was here awhile in eve.

Mon. Jan. 20
Pretty cold day. Arthur walked too school. Ruth & Francis came up about 11 & Mon took the team & took Francis down to Roy Snells after dinner. Arthur caught a ride home with Richard. He got home about 2:30. Not any classes today. Beginning of second semester so they just had to register. Ruth & Francis stayed for supper.

Tues. Jan. 21
Cool day. Started too snow about 3:30 but didn't keep it up so long. Arthur walked too school. Richard was here awhile in A.M. Mon drove the team too Bluffton in P.M. & got the sled fixed. Arthur & Dean went over to Howards awhile in eve. King Geo of England died today.

Wed. Jan. 22
Terrible day 32º below & a hard wind. Didn't do much of anything except stay by the stove. Dean went over to Howards a little while in P.M. The wind went down with the sun but it was still mighty cold.

Thurs. Jan. 23
Mighty cold in A.M. (30º below) but warmed up about 20º during the warmest part of the day. Cooled off in the nite again. Sun shone all day. No school in our school or B.O. today. Dean & Richard walked to Bluffton in P.M. Richard was over awhile in A.M. Too cold to much of anything. Andy Butler died of cancer this A.M.

Fri. Jan. 24
Mon's 41st Birthday. 32º below again this A.M. Bright sun shine all day. Warmed up some during the day. Richard came over in A.M. & then he went to B.O. with Mon & the boys about noon. First car along the road since the blizzard. Mon came home by Gordon's & brot Bee & Uncle Marion home with him & Gordon walked down when he got his chores done. The men played cards in eve. Mon took Gordon & Bee home about 1. Uncle Marion stayed all nite.

Sat. Jan. 25
Another cold day but not quite as cold as yesterday. We went to B.O. about noon. Uncle Marion went up town with us & then over to Albert's. Mon, Arthur & I had dinner up home. Dean stopped down town. Lester took the team in P.M. & went down to Dells forty & got a load of grubs. We got home as soon as he got back. Got home about 5. Colder coming home. More wind.

Sun. Jan. 26
Cold day but bright. Dean went up after the mail in A.M. & over to Howard's in P.M. Andy Butler was buried this P.M.

Mon. Jan. 27
18º below this morn. School started again in both schools today. Nice bright day. Didn't do much of anything. Bea's folks brot her here about 8 P.M. with the car & then Mon & I took her on home with the team. She had been down to Decorah since last nite. Went down to see the Dr. about her ear. She has had a gathering in her head & it broke & came out thro the ear.

Tues. Jan. 28
Not quite so cold. I washed. We listened quite a bit to the radio. King Geo's funeral & Memorial services from different places. Doris & Verna were here all P.M. Arthur stayed up home tonite.

Wed. Jan. 29
Rather cold day again but bright. I scrubbed in A.M. & ironed in P.M. Richard was here awhile in P.M. Dean was over to Howard's in eve. Arthur came home tonite.

Thurs. Jan. 30
Regular blizzard most of the day. Sun shone most of the time though. Quite cold. Dave was here awhile in A.M. Mrs. Lovlien came home from the La Crosse Hospital today & they had quite a time getting up Christ's hill tonite on their way home. Drifted pretty much. Arthur got pretty cold coming home from school.

Fri. Jan. 31
22º below this A.M. Nice bright day. Warmed up some during the day. We went up town about 11:30. Uncle Jim rode out to the paving with us from Christ's corner. He had been up to Gordon's. Maxine & Arthur rode home with us.

Sat. Feb. 1
20º below this A.M. but warmed up during the day. Bright day again. Howard & Richard were over in A.M. awhile. Howard sold hogs to Wickett & they took them about 2 P.M. Mon went to Canton with Howard & Richard. Fred & Ede went along too. They got back about 5:30. Richard was over here about 7 & he sure was stewed. Arthur went to B.O. about 4 & stayed all nite. Mon & Dean were over to Howard's awhile in eve. Ed D. was here in eve until about 11.

Sun. Feb. 2
Nice day. Not so cold. Ed D. came about 10 & as soon as he could get his car started Mon, Ed & I went to B.O. & got Arthur & then we went down to Ruth & Francis at Frankville. Sure had a good time. Had roast duck & goose & all other good things. Ate too much. Didn't leave there until 7 & got home about 8. Ruth's Uncle Dan was there too. Dean had the chores all done & was over at Howard's when we got home. Harold & Bobby L. came just as we got home & stayed until about 10. Ed went home then too. Started to snow in eve & kept it up all nite.

Mon. Feb. 3
Regular blizzard all day & nite. Not cold though during the day, but got colder at nite. Snowed hard most of the day. Arthur went too school but stayed up home all nite. Dean didn't go too school his overshoes were too bad. Mon went to Decorah with Richard & Howard. He got Dean new overshoes. Ed came just after dinner & got his car. Dean had to hitch the team on & haul him before he could get his car started.

Tues. Feb. 4
15º below this A.M. Nice day but cold. Dean went too school. Arthur stayed up home again tonite. Cold tonite. Roads drifted full.

Wed. Feb. 5
28º below this A.M. No school today. Arthur walked home after dinner & was all in when he got home the snow was so deep & no track. Richard & Mon cut wood in P.M.

Thurs. Feb. 6
18º below this A.M. Dean went too school but Arthur didn't. Mon & Richard chopped wood until about 11. Nice in A.M. early but started to snow about 11 & we had rather a blizzard in P.M.

Fri. Feb. 7
15º below this A.M. Dandy nice day. Warmed up some during the middle of the day. Dean went too school. Mon, Arthur, Richard & I went to B.O. about 10:30. The M.E.L.A.S. had an oyster dinner in the church basement. Olive, Elsie & I cooked oysters. Quite a few there. The little son of Lila & Ben Johnson was buried this P.M. the service was at the M.E. church. I didn't stay. Went down town. We didn't come home until school was out. Maxine rode home with us. Marion came home with us. Richard went to Decorah so he didn't come home with us. He was over in eve.

Sat. Feb. 8
My 44th Birthday. Snowing & blowing when we got up. Wind from the S.E. Not cold but a regular blizzard. Mon & Dean took Marion to B.O. about 10:30. Before they got home, & they came right back, the wind switched to the west & the temperature dropped 28º in about 10 min's. We sure had a terrible blizzard the rest of the day & nite. Reports from all over the state by radio were all roads drifted full & cars, bus's & trains stalled in the snow & such a shortage of fuel in the cities. Many cities & towns opened the public buildings for people too stay in for the nite & tomorrow if necessary. About 10º below in eve. Mighty nasty nite. Wind blew so hard all nite.

Sun. Feb. 9
22º below. Mighty cold again today. Quite a blizzard in A.M. but not so bad in P.M. Sun shone all day. Howard & Richard were over in P.M. Arthur went over to Dave's in P.M. awhile. Wind went down with the sun so it was a quiet nite but cold.

Mon. Feb. 10
18º below. Nice bright day but cold. Warmed up some during the middle of the day. No school's today. Mon went over to Howard's awhile in P.M. Howard & Richard were here awhile too. Geo. & Roy Wernett were here in eve. The white faced heifer had a calf this eve. The radio said the Main high ways are being opened up. Some roads are not open yet but they are working all the time to open them.

Tues. Feb. 11
Nice day but cold. Geo & Roy Wernett & Richard came over & they all went to B.O. Had to go across our field to Harry's & then they found pretty much snow in the field. Arthur stayed in B.O. too go to school.

Wed. Feb. 12
15º below this A.M. Nice in A.M. early but started to snow in P.M. & got quite cold. Rather a blizzard late in P.M. Richard was here awhile in A.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. Arthur didn't come home.

Thurs. Feb. 13
Above zero this morn. Snowed off & on all day. Regular blizzard in early A.M. but not so bad the rest of the day. Wind in the S.E. until eve it switched around to the N. & got colder. Wind blew hard in the nite & the snow blowed too. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur came home tonite. No school in B.O. tomorrow. 8th grade exams. Dean went to B.O. from school & stayed all nite up home.

Fri. Feb. 14
17º below early in A.M. Windy & snow blowing in A.M. but not so bad in P.M. Didn't do much of anything. Howard was here in P.M. Dean didn't come home tonite. The brown cow had a calf this A.M. early.

Sat. Feb. 15
15º below in A.M. Nice bright day. Lizzie & Howard came over & went to B.O. with us in A.M. I went up home. Wilma & the kids & Marie & Marvin & Marion were there in P.M. too. Uncle Marion came home with us. Pretty cold coming home. Richard rode home with us too. Richard, Doris, Pearl & the baby were over & spent the eve. Howard & Verna stayed home because it was so cold. Dean came home with us from town. The men played cards. Ed D. came about 11. We got to bed about 2.

Sun. Feb. 16
30º below this A.M. but still. Nice bright day & it warmed up quite a little but still cold. Dean was over to Howards during the day & Richard was here in P.M. Arthur walked up home in P.M. so as to be ready for school. We all went over to Howard's in eve. Freds were there too. The men played cards. We got to bed about 12. Snowing when we came home.

Mon. Feb. 17
15º below this A.M. Snowed quite a while in A.M. but was bright in P.M. but cold. The wind came up in P.M. & blew the snow around some. Richard was here in A.M. Dean went to school. We went over to Howard's in eve. Howard took Richard & Doris to B.O. in P.M. & they went down to Mike's from there.

Tues. Feb. 18
22º below this A.M. Not very warm during the day. Dean didn't go too school today. The men butchered a beef in P.M.

Wed. Feb. 19
18º below this A.M. Nice cold day. Warmed up a little during the middle of the day. I washed. Marion went home this P.M. Howard was over in P.M. Dean went too school. Arthur came home tonite.

Thurs. Feb. 20
15º below. Nice bright day. Thawed a little during the middle of the day. Arthur walked too school this A.M. Mon & I went up town about noon. I went up home.

Fri. Feb. 21
Nice day. Warmer. I ironed in A.M. Audry & Delores were here all P.M. While Dave & Lizzie were in B.O. Audry has left Harold.

Sat. Feb. 22
Rather cloudy windy day. (South Wind) & cool, but the temperature was way above zero. Mon & Dean went to B.O. Arthur came home with them. Howard & Arthur W. were over in eve. The jersey Heifer had a calf this A.M.

Sun. Feb. 23
Dandy nice warm day. Thawed a lot. Snow settled quite a bit. We went up to Gordon's in P.M. Went a long way too get there on account of the snow. Went thro' the fields most of the way.

Mon. Feb. 24
Not such a nice day but not bad. Thawed quite a bit again. Mon cleaned the brooder house & did quite a few things like that. Dean went over to Howards in eve a while.

Tues. Feb. 25
Dandy nice day. Thawed quite a bit again today. We had a Farm Bureau Meeting here today on (Dyeing). Had a big time dyeing different good & different ways. Had a swell dinner. Gladys A., Bea P., Mrs. Haugen, Ruby Haugen, Lizzie, Audry & Delores, Pearl, Verna & Baby, Jane G., Mabel L. & Mrs. Wernett & Connie. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. Howard was over in eve. Arthur came home tonite.

Wed. Feb. 26
Not very nice day. Not so cold. Snowed & blowed & drifted most of the day & nite. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur didn't come home tonite.

Thurs. Feb. 27
Cooler day. Not such a nice day either. Dean didn't go too school. Arthur didn't come home tonite.

Fri. Feb. 28
Quite a nice day. I washed & ironed. Dean went too school today. Arthur came home tonite. Drifted a lot in the night. Howard was over in eve.

Sat. Feb. 29
Chilly day, but the sun shone. We went to B.O. about 10:30, took a grist up & had it ground. Howard went along. We got papa's car & went to Decorah. Took the calf hide down & got (5¢ per lb or $2. ). Gordon P. & Howard went to Decorah & back with us. Large crowd in town. Dean & I got our hair cut. Got home about 5:30. Dean went over to Hoards in eve. Arthur didn't go to town with us.

Sun. Mar. 1
Snowy, blizzardy day. Didn't do much of anything.

Mon. Mar. 2
Quite a nice day. Thawed quite a little. The snow settled a lot. Arthur rode Nell too school today. Mon & Howard each hauled a load for Christ today. (He is moving over on Jack Whalen's place). They got home about 4. Richard & Doris came here in eve. They had walked down from B.O. Pearl was over a little while in eve too.

Tues. Mar. 3
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. Arthur rode Nell too school today. Mon & I went over to Lovlien's about 10:30. Mon helped fix their windmill & then we stayed for dinner. Mrs. L. looks just fine. We started from there to B.O. but saw our cattle out in the corn shocks so had to come home & put them in the barn yard. Went to B.O. after that. Waited for Richard up there until after 5 but he didn't come so we loaded up his goods & came on without him. Arthur came home when we did. Howard was over in eve.

Wed. Mar. 4
Cold, windy day. Warmed up a little in P.M. but the wind stayed cold. Arthur walked too school today. Mon took Richard to B.O. so he could get a stove & groceries & things.

Thurs. Mar. 5
Cold windy day. Sun shone & it thawed a little in P.M. Mon & Howard each took a load for Richard, over to Jimmie Henry's. Richard is going too work there. Arthur didn't come home tonite.

Fri. Mar. 6
Cold raw day. Quite windy. Wind in the south. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur came home tonite.

Sat. Mar. 7
Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off about noon & was sure nice in P.M. Thawed quite a little. We went to B.O. about 19 A.M. & then got papa's car & Papa, Mon, Gordon, Bea & I went to Decorah. Uncle Jim is in the Hospital & we went down too see him. We took Gordon & Bea down to Aunt Mina's a minute too. Quite a crowd in town. We got back to B.O. about 4:30 & then came around by Gordon's & gave them a ride home. Loyal came home with us. The dark red heifer had a calf this A.M.

Sun. Mar. 8
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up later in P.M. & got colder. Mon, Dean, Loyal & I went up to Gordons in P.M. a few minutes.

Mon. Mar. 9
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Thawed a lot. Water everywhere. Creeks came up late in P.M. Didn't freeze tonite. Arthur walked too school & home again today. Audry came over about 11 & helped us get our beef ready too can. We canned 27 qts. in P.M. & eve. She went home about 5. Howard was over in eve.

Tues. Mar. 10
Very nice until late P.M. it clouded up. Rained quite hard in eve. Thawed a lot today. Audry helped again this A.M. We canned 12 qts. of beefsteak & other meat. Arthur didn't come home tonite. Had quite a bit of thunder & lightning in eve. Snowed in the nite.

Wed. Mar. 11
Damp, cloudy day. Pretty sloppy. Howard was over awhile in A.M. Mon took some feed up to the folks about noon. Arthur came home with him. I canned 8 qts. of soup today. The jersey cow had a calf this A.M.

Thurs. Mar. 12
Not very nice day. Didn't do much of anything. Snowed & blowed again today. Arthur didn't come home tonite.

Fri. Mar. 13
Dandy nice day. Thawed a lot. I washed & scrubbed the floor & about 4 P.M. Mon took me over to Chase's & I walked from there up town & stayed all nite up home. The B.O.H.S. had their play this eve at the Hall "Spooky Tavern". It was good & they had a good crowd considering the roads, which are plenty bad. Didn't get back up home until about 11.

Sat. Mar. 14
Quite a nice day. Thawed a lot again. Mon & Dean came to B.O. about noon with a grist. Papa & Arthur went to Decorah in P.M. Olive & Isa & the kids were at mama's in P.M. We came home about 4. Not very good sleighing in some places.

Sun. Mar. 15
Not quite such a nice day all day but not too bad. Thawed a lot. Howard has a sick horse & the men were all over there in A.M.

Mon. Mar. 16
Dandy nice day. Did a little of everything. Arthur walked too school. Mon went up to Gordon's in A.M. Howard was here two or 3 times during the day & again in eve & talked to Dr. Reedie.

Tues. Mar. 17
Dandy day. Pretty much water. Mon took Pearl & I over to Lizzie's in A.M. to a Farm Bureau Meeting. Learned how to make rugs. 12 women there. Had a dandy dinner & a good time. Mon came after us about 4:30. Arthur rode Nell today.

Wed. Mar. 18
Terribly windy day. Wind in the south & rather cool. Thawed a lot though. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur walked today. Howard was over in A.M. & Mon was over there in P.M.

Thurs. Mar. 19
Not so nice in A.M. but was nicer in P.M. Mon was over to Howard's most of A.M. Club met with Mrs. Rasmussen this P.M. but I couldn't go. Arthur walked today.

Fri. Mar. 20
Just a beautiful day until about 4 P.M. a storm came up & it was quite a storm while it lasted. Blowed mighty hard & rained hard for awhile too. Took part of the roofing off the barn. I washed & ironed. Mon helped Lovlien's saw wood all day. Arthur rode the horse too school. He got pretty wet coming home in the storm. It cleared up about 5:30 & was very nice. Nell Headington died very suddenly in the nite. The short eared heifer had a calf this A.M.

Sat. Mar. 21
Dandy nice day. We drove the wagon up town today. Roads are not very good but we have been on them when they were a lot worse. Arthur & Dean went to Decorah a little while in P.M Olive & Marie were at mama's in P.M. Mon went home with Gust from B.O. & fixed their radio so he didn't get home until in the eve. The boys & I got home about 3. Willis Kinney rode down from B.O. with us. Dean was over to Howard's awhile in eve. First car went past here today since the blizzards.

Sun. Mar. 22
Not very nice day. Sprinkled different times. Sun shone some. Roads dried quite a little. Arthur had the car out & drove it around a little. Howard was over awhile in eve. Rained very hard in the nite. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Mon. Mar. 23
Not very nice in A.M. looked pretty rainy until about 10 it cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Pretty warm. Creeks were roaring the morning. Mon & I went down to Silver Creek about 9:30 but it had gone down quite a lot. There was still plenty of water there though. Pearl, Verna & the baby were over & spent the P.M. It rained hard about 6 P.M. Howard was over in eve. Got colder in eve.

Tues. Mar. 24
Cold, windy, dark day. Arthur rode the horse too school. Mon went to B.O. at noon with a grist. I was over to Howard's a few minutes in A.M. Froze tonite.

Wed. Mar. 25
Quite cold in A.M. early but warmed up & was a nice day. Had quite a shower at nite. I washed & ironed & did quite a few things. Howard's horse died about 4 P.M. Mon was over there quite a while & then he & Dean went over about 5:30 & hauled the horse out of the barn with our team. Howard was over in eve.

Thurs. Mar. 26
Cloudy, windy, cold day. Regular Mch. day. Snowed, hailed, rained & everything else. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur stayed up home tonite. The Odd Fellow's had a dance. Carl & Hazel Richardson's baby died tonite. Froze hard tonite.

Fri. Mar. 27
Nice bright day but the wind was cold. Mon worked in the woods all day. I helped him saw a log in P.M. Howard was over in P.M. & he & Willis Kinney were here in eve. Arthur came home tonite. Got home about 6:30. He rode as far as Gordon's with him in the car & they had quite a bit of trouble. John Gates died this A.M.

Sat. Mar. 28
Not such a bad day. We went up town in A.M. Went up home for dinner. Wilma & her kids were there too. Arthur & Dean took papa's car & went to Decorah in P.M. We got home about 6. Mon went to B.O. in eve with Geo. W. in his car.

Sun. Mar. 29
Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & snowed quite hard at times. Gordon & Bea were down for dinner. They went home about 3:30. Richard B. & Ed D. were here in P.M.

Mon. Mar. 30
Arthur's 19th Birthday. He rode Nell too school today. Regular blizzard at times in A.M. Snowed off & on all day. Sun shone awhile in P.M. Got much colder in P.M. Ed D. came over & went too town with us about 10 A.M. I went up home. Addie Thorson came back to B.O. yesterday P.M. after spending the winter at Mason City. She was at mama's for dinner so was Isa. Arthur ‘s birthday dinner. I went to John Gate's funeral in P.M. at the M.E. church. Minnie & Albert Van V., Mrs. & Mrs. K. & I sang "Going Down the Valley", "Face To Face" & "Father Thou Art Gone." Large crowd out. Mon & Ed went up to Oscar Wilburs & got Ed's saw rig. We hauled it down as far as Chase's & left it there. I rode part way home with Geo. W. in the car. Ed stayed here for supper. Mighty cold tonite for this time of the year.

Tues. Mar. 31
Not such a bad day. Rather cold though. Arthur rode Nell today. Mon helped Willard Chase saw wood in P.M. Nell got a nail in her foot just as Arthur started for home with her so he went down to Chase's & got Henry too help him & papa get the nail out of her foot. He got home a little after 5 with her. Mon came shortly afterward & bro't Ed's saw rig over here. Howard & Verna were here awhile in P.M. The dark red heifer had a calf this A.M.

Snowy, nasty day. Arthur walked too school today. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. with Geo. & Arthur rode home with them. Howard, Willis & Ed were here awhile in A.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve.

Thurs. Apr. 2
Snowed off & on all day & quite hard about 5 P.M. Sun shone nice for a little while in P.M. Arthur walked too school. Mon took me to Club at Maude J's. in P.M. with the car. He went back to B.O. Quite a few out & had a nice lunch. I rode to B.O. with Anita. We waited until school was out & Arthur rode home with us. Little son born to Sid & Sue. Robert Edward.

Quite a nice day. Thawed a little. Arthur walked. I washed & scrubbed & ironed some. Mon hauled up wood in P.M. Howard was here in A.M. Bruno Richard Hauptman was electrocuted tonite for the murder of the Lindberg baby.

Sat. Apr. 4
Quite a blizzard in A.M. Snowed almost all day. Not very cold. We went to B.O. with the sled. Took a grist up. Went up home for dinner. Marie & Marion were up there in P.M. too. Got home about 6.

Not very warm day. Didn't do much of anything. Froze hard tonite.

Mon. Apr. 6
Nice day. Thawed quite a lot. Arthur rode too school with Maxine & Ray Wernett. (He works for Dave). Mon & I went to B.O. about 11 with the car. Had dinner up home & then went to Decorah. Wasn't down there long. Went up too see Mrs. Miller & Mrs. Johnson. Got back to B.O. & waited so Arthur could have a ride home. Had a pretty hard blizzard for awhile in eve. Froze hard tonite. Dean was over to Howard's & Mon over to Geo's awhile in eve.

Tues. Apr. 7
Cold blustery day. Arthur walked. Mon helped Geo. Saw wood in A.M. Ed D. came in P.M. & stayed for supper.

Wed. Apr. 8
Nicer day. Thawed a lot. Arthur walked. Harry Harvey came about 9 & hauled our timothy seed to Decorah for us. Mon went with him. There was 1449 lbs. @ $2.30 & we got $33.32. Mon walked home from the paving & went right over to Geo's too saw.

Thurs. Apr. 9
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. Roads dried a lot. Arthur rode Nell today. I washed & scrubbed & ironed some. Ed D. came this A.M. too help Mon haul up wood but Mon had too help Geo saw wood so they didn't get around too haul up wood until after 1. They hauled the rest of the day. Ed stayed here all nite. Lizzie was over awhile in P.M. Lawrence Donlan was here in P.M. & got the boar.

Not such a nice day. Cloudy & sprinkled. Rained quite a little shower in P.M. Arthur walked too school & rode home with Dave. Mon & Ed finished hauling up wood & went over to Fred W's. & got the saw rig in P.M. Ed stayed here tonite.

Sat. Apr. 11
Dandy nice day. Wind blew quite hard & dried the roads a lot. We sawed here in A.M. "Happy", Morris Whalen & Mr. Chase helped. Got done about 11 & went to B.O. in P.M. Went up home awhile. Ed & Arthur went to Decorah on the Bus. Arthur got home about 12. Ed went on home. Mon went over to Happy's & played poker all nite. Got home at 5 A.M.

Beautiful Easter Sunday. Nice & warm. Dean & I walked up to Lesters. Loyals Birthday & papa & mama & Claude's were there too. Had a good time. Papa & mama bro't us as far as the four corners with the car. The roads dried a lot today.

Dandy nice day. Quite windy. Mon helped Jack W. saw wood all day. The roads dried a lot today.

Tues. Apr. 14
Dandy nice day. Lots of wind. Roy took Maxine & Arthur part way too school with the car. Arthur Smith was here awhile in A.M. I washed & baked bread before 11 A.M. & then we went to B.O. Took up a grist. The roads have sure dried. Cars on our road today. Roy came up after the kids & Maxine & I rode with him & Arthur came with Mon. I went up to mama's. Ad, Isa & Mrs. Stroud were there too.

Wed. Apr. 15
Terribly windy day & cold too. Mon helped Fritz K. haul hay. Bad day for that. Chas. Wernett's were here awhile early in A.M. Howard was here 3 or 4 times during the day. I ironed. We went to B.O. in eve. Some of the Bluffton folks put on the play "Deacon Dubbs" at the hall. It was sure good. Not such a big crowd out though.

Thurs. Apr. 16
Cold, cloudy, windy day. Mon took me to B.O. to Club in P.M. Vera Gates entertained in the M.E. church basement. Not many out. Had a good lunch. Arthur & Maxine rode home with us.

Fri. Apr. 17
Cold windy day again. I walked down to (?Josie's?) to a Farm Bureau meeting. 11 ladies there. Had a dandy good dinner & lunch & a good meeting. Got home about 5. Dean walked to B.O. after school. Arthur & I went to B.O. in eve. Walter Wernett went with us. 5 schools of B.O. township put on 1 act plays in a contest at the hall tonite. There was singing & jigging too. Dean was in the play from our school. Our school didn't get along so well. Very large crowd out. Hall was packed. Maxine, Lizzie & Roy rode home with us. Roy broke his car just as he got too town. Dean didn't come home. We got home about 10:30. Bea & Red bro't the mules home & spent the eve with Mon.

Sat. Apr. 18
Dandy nice day. Somewhat warmer. Lester & Loyal came down in A.M. & Lester took the team too get a load of wood. Loyal stayed here. Lester got back here a little after 1 & Loyal went home with him. We went to B.O. & then to Decorah. Drove papa's car. Quite a crowd in town. I got a hair cut & a pair of every day shoes. Dean went to Decorah with us & then home with us. We went to B.O. in eve. Got home about 11. They worked our road with the caterpillar & tractor today.

Dandy nice day. Mama's 65th Birthday. We kids were all home & took our dinners. Had a good dinner & a good time. Got home about 5.

Mon. Apr. 20
Quite nice in A.M. & early P.M. but the wind started too blow quite hard about 3 P.M. & it got quite cold. Mon started plowing in P.M. Froze hard tonite.

Tues. Apr. 21
Quite a cold, windy day. Mon plowed. Pearl & the girls were over a while in A.M. Froze hard tonite.

Wed. Apr. 22
Quite a nice day. Mon plowed. I washed & ironed. Mama & papa came about 8:30. Mama stayed here & papa went down to Langes & then fishing. He got back here just in time for dinner & then went down to Pine Creek fishing in P.M. He got back here about 4. Left some of his fish for us. They went home just after papa got back. Froze some again tonite.

Quite a nice day but windy & cool. Mon plowed.

Fri. Apr. 24
Not very nice day. Rained quite hard part of the time. Cleared up about 3 P.M. & wasn't so bad after that. Rather cold day. Floyd, Gladys & the 3 little ones were here awhile in A.M. Gladys got 2 settings of goose eggs ($1.25). Deans' 16th Birthday. Mon hauled manure in P.M. after it quite raining.

Quite a nice day. Mon plowed & the boys did lots of odd jobs. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12. Arthur's sow had 4 pigs today.

Nice day. Mon went up to Red's a while in A.M. & then he took Arthur & I up home about noon. He went over to Happy's about 1 & got some potatoes & then over to Gust's. Arthur & papa went to Canton to an I.O.O.F. Meeting. Marie, Marion, Marvin & Leonard were at mama's a while. She & I went over to Ad's awhile. (?Selmer & Masie?) & the kids were there too. Papa bro't Arthur & I home. Dean went fishing. Got 15.

Not such a nice day. Sprinkled in A.M. & then again in P.M. Mon plowed in A.M. & dragged in P.M. Dean went out & dragged after he got home. Had 6 little pigs today. Howard was over awhile in eve.

Tues. Apr. 28
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Dean stayed at home today. He dragged in A.M. & Mon went up to Gust's & got the seeder & then Mon dragged in P.M. & Dean seeded. I did a little of everything. Washed the curtains & a few other things in P.M. Sprinkled a little in eve. 1 sow had 6 pigs & 1 had 4 tonite.

Dandy nice day. Dean seeded & Mon dragged. Arthur drove the car too school today. Mr. Halverson was here & ground feed in P.M. The boys & I went up town a while in P.M.

Thurs. Apr. 30
Not very nice in A.M. Looked terribly bad for a while but didn't rain much here. Mon finished seeding that piece just before the rain & they came to the house. Dean went back about 2 P.M. & finished dragging & then Mon plowed the rest of the P.M. Arthur drove today & came home at noon. I had Club in P.M. Anita, Luella, Maude, Agnes, Violet, Vera, Lorna Prust, Florence, Hilda, Muriel, Gladys, Dorothy S. & Ruby Haugen were here. Not very many but we had a good time. Clouded up in eve & rained, hailed thundered & lots of lightning in the nite. Rained most of the nite I guess. 1 sow had 6 pigs & 1 had 5 today.

Fri. May 1
Not very nice day. Quite warm. Rained hard early in A.M. but let up about 7:30 so the boys didn't have to go too school in the rain. Arthur walked. Didn't do much of anything. Went over to Pearls a little while in A.M.

Sat. May 2
Cloudy, cool day. Mon & Arthur went up to Gust's in A.M. & got some barley too sow. Mon plowed in P.M. until about 5. He broke the equalizer & had too go to Bluffton & get it fixed. Arthur & I washed in P.M. Dean split wood & did quite a few things. We went up town in eve.

Sun. May 3
Quite a nice day. The boys & I went up to Bea's a few minutes in A.M. Took her a setting of goose eggs. Mon & I went down along Silver Creek in P.M. Dean went fishing. Rained most of the nite I guess. Had 4 more little pigs tonite. That is the last of them.

Mon. May 4
Not very nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. & even quite warm in P.M. Mon plowed in P.M. Arthur got a ride in A.M. Arthur, Dean & I went up town in eve. We girls practiced at Alyse Wicks' for Mother's Day.

Tues. May 5
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. Mon had too go to Decorah in A.M. too see Warren. (He is here for today). Mon got back at noon. Dean's last day of school. Had a picnic. Quite a few out & we sure had a good dinner. Some insurance men were here so Mon couldn't get up there for dinner. I walked up about 11:30 & rode back with Charley W's. Mon plowed in P.M. Arthur went to a weiner roast over on Louie U's. in eve. The High School kids had their pictures taken today. Gust & Kate were down & spent the eve. It rained hard in the nite & hailed too.

Wed. May 6
Cloudy in A.M. but cleared up in P.M. & was nice. Quite warm. Mon plowed & Dean did a little of everything. Arthur drove the car too school this A.M. The Seniors of all the High School around Decorah went to Luther too spend the day. Arthur didn't get home until about 6:30. "Happy" & Bob were over & spent the eve.

Thurs. May 7
Pretty warm nice day. Mon plowed. Dean went to B.O. to take the 8th Grade Exams. No High School so Arthur was at home. Arthur, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Kate was here in eve & got 4 goose eggs.

Fri. May 8
Dandy day. Pretty warm. Mon plowed. Arthur went to B.O. about 8:30 & got a trailer & hauled the barley to Mabel. Dean went with him when he went at 8:30 to be up there to write his exams. Loyal came back with Arthur when he came with the trailer & then went to Mabel with him. He took 6 sacks in A.M. & 6 in P.M. Dean came back with him in P.M. There were 26.44 bu. @ .65 per bu & brot $17.50.

Sat. May 9
Looked rainy most of the day. But only sprinkled some off & on. Mon & Dean went up to Gust's in A.M. We went too town about 1. Mrs. Krumm went & came with us. The Joan of Arc had a program & lunch for the mothers of the community at the Lutheran Church in P.M. Quite a few out. Had a nice program & nice lunch. Vera Dorothea, Florence & I. "Nobody Knows but Mother" & "When Its Lamp lighting in the Valley". Mon, the boys & papa went to Decorah & when they got back from there we came home. Did up the chores & went back up town. I went up to the Pavilion. Kellys played. Not such a big crowd but they seemed to have a good time. We got home about 1.

Sun. May 10
"Mothers Day." Quite nice in A.M. Clouded up about noon. Rained quite hard about 2:30 P.M. Mon & Arthur went up to Ole's & Jack's in A.M. & didn't get back until about 12. We went up home for dinner then. Didn't stay long it looked so rainy & started to sprinkle so we came home. Took the oil barrel up to Ern's too get it filled but he didn't have enough gas so we had to leave it. Dean was gone all day. Pearl & the girls were over a little while after supper.

Mon. May 11
Nice day. Pretty warm. Arthur walked too school. Mon plowed. Gordon came down at noon with the tractor & started plowing. Arthur went out & plowed awhile when he got home from school & then he plowed while Gordon ate supper. We took him home about 8:45. Stopped a few minutes up there. Pearl & the girls were over awhile in P.M.

Tues. May 12
Nice day. Pretty warm. Gordon was here & plowed again today. Mon plowed in A.M. & then he & Dean went to B.O. in P.M. & got more gasoline & went they got back Mon plowed with the tractor awhile. Arthur plowed after he got home until they had the chores done. Gordon helped with the chores. We took him home & then went over to Gust's awhile. Rained some in the nite & the wind blew hard.

Wed. May 13
Nice day but cooler & windy. Gordon finished plowing here early in A.M. Mon did a little of everything in A.M. In P.M. we got the disc together & he disced. Dean was up to Gordons & hauled manure all day.

Thurs. May 14
Nice day. Dean was at Gordon's again today. He got thru tonite. Mon disced. I washed & ironed. The boys & I went up town in eve. Dean & I went up home a little while. Mama doesn't feel very good. Arthur went to Lodge.

Fri. May 15
Nice day. Mon disced. Dean hauled manure & did other things in A.M. & we shelled seed corn in P.M. Willard Walton was here at supper time selling insurance. We went over to Lovlien's in eve awhile.

Sat. May 16
Papa's Birthday. Dandy nice day only pretty windy & dusty. Arthur went to Decorah in A.M. & got a new pair of pants & sweater for graduation. (Brown). Didn't do much in A.M. but stay out doors with Mon & help him. He bought a corn planter of Geo. Wernett & went & got it this morn & we were getting it regulated. He went out to plant about 10:30 & I went along & helped string out the wire. Dean dragged in A.M. & some of P.M. Arthur dragged some in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Went up to the Pavilion. The I.O.O.F. had a benifit dance for Howard Rollins who has been sick for so long & is still in the Rochester Hospital. Quite a few out. We came home about 1 it looked pretty rainy & sprinkled some before we came home. Bea & Gordon rode home with us. It rained hard after we got home.

Sun. May 17
Nice part of the day & cloudy part of the day. Mon & Dean went & got Marion this A.M. Bea & Gordon came down & were here for dinner. Arthur, Maxine & I went to the Baccalaureate Service at the Lutheran church in eve. Large crowd out. Marion went to B.O. with us & then home from there.

Mon. May 18
Dandy nice day. Got rather windy in P.M. Mon finished planting that piece of corn about 3 P.M. Dean dragged. After finishing planting corn Mon & the boys plowed & disced a small piece of ground north of the barn. Arthur drove too school & got home about 2:30. I washed & ironed.

Tues. May 19
Nice day but quite a lot cooler. Arthur drove today. Dean dragged in A.M. Mon & I set out 100 chinese elm trees, north of the barn, in A.M. Mon disced in P.M. Dean did a little of everything. Pearl & Verna were here awhile in A.M. & Howard &Verna at noon. The men did the chores up early & we went to B.O. The Senior-Junior Banquet was held at the Lutheran basement & the parents were invited. Had a very nice banquet & a good program. Arthur gave the "Class Will". Dean went up to mama's awhile. We got home about 11. Arthur went to "Breezy Hill" & to Decorah with some of the kids.

Wed. May 20
Had a little shower in A.M. early but cleared up about noon & was nice the rest of the day. Rather cool. Mon didn't go to the field in A.M. We finished shelling the seed corn in A.M. Mon disced in P.M. He & I went up to Gordon's in eve & then down to Gust's but they were not at home so we stopped at Ruth's & Fritz's on our way home.

Thurs. May 21
Nice day, but windy. Arthur didn't have too go to school. He disced in A.M. & Mon & I went to Decorah. Weren't down there very long. We got Louie's digger on our way home & they took turns using that & the drag in P.M. Mon & took took a walk out too see the oat field in P.M. Mon, Dean & I went up town in eve. Took Louie's digger home on our way. Saw Beatrice Anderson up town & Dean got his returns from his 8th grade exams. He passed.

Fri. May 22
Nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & looked pretty bad. Rained hard in P.M. & most of the P.M. too. Mon started planting corn on that other piece this A.M. Dean dragged. Couldn't work in P.M. on account of the rain. Arthur's last day of High School. They went to Ft. Atkinson too play ball & have their picnic but it rained so hard they only played 3 innings & then came back to Decorah for their picnic supper. Arthur got home about 6:15. Rather wet & muddy. He helped with the milking & then he & I went back to B.O. to the Commencement Exercises. They were held in the Hall. Arthur, Eloise McMullen, Rose O'Brien, Paul Thompson, Dean Smith, Ralph Greenslade, Leonard Wicks & Howard McMullen were the graduates. Dr. O. M. Norlie of Luther College gave the commencement address. Not so many out on account of the roads & weather. Ruth & Francis were up. We got home about 10:30. The stars were shining when we came home.

Sat. May 23
Nice day. Pretty windy. Mon went to Canton early in A.M. too sell some stock to Wickett. He came back with the truck when they came & then went with them again. Sold two veal calves & 2 old sows 2 calves weighed 270 lbs. & got $7.50 per cwt. ($20.25) 2 sows weighed 660 lbs @ $8.10 per cwt. ($53.46) Bringing $73.71 & the truck was $2.00 so we got $71.71. Mon got back about 1:30. He got another 100 chinese elms from Snyder's for nothing because the others looked so bad. We went to Decorah about 2. Got new pants & sweater for Dean. Large crowd in town. Got home about 5:15. Did up the chores & went to B.O. Arthur, Dean & I went up home a few minutes. Dean went to Decorah with Frank Gates & some other boys. We got home about 12. Bea & Red were up town & she rode home with us.

Sun. May 24
Nice day. A little cooler. Mon & I went over to Krumm's a few minutes early in A.M. & got a bushel of seed corn ($5). Were home alone all day. Dean went away in A.M. & didn't get back until about 4. Arthur was gone all P.M.

Mon. May 25
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon disced. Mama & Loyal came with papa early in A.M. & stayed until he went home. He was at Fred Walters. Mama & Arthur planted potatoes. I helped finish up in P.M. Got done about 4.

Tues. May 26
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon disced in A.M. & in P.M. Arthur dragged & he planted corn. Dean went to Decorah with Haugen's to the 8th Grade Graduation Exercises. I washed & ironed. Red & Bea were here a few minutes in eve.

Wed. May 27
Dandy nice day. Rather warm. Mon planted corn & Dean dragged in A.M. & Mon disced in P.M. Arthur & I set out some more Chinese Elm tree's in A.M.

Thurs. May 28
Nice day. Mon planted corn in A.M. & Dean dragged. Arthur did a lot of odd jobs. Arthur disced in P.M. & Mon took me to B.O. Club at Cecelia Norlie's. Quite a crowd out & a dandy lunch. Mon went to Decorah about 3:30 with Happy so he didn't get back to B.O. until about 5 & we didn't get home until about 5:30. Mon got a new pair of shoes & Loyal came down with papa this A.M. when he went to Fred's, & stayed all nite. Floyd Arnold was here for supper. Arthur & Dean went to B.O. in eve.

Fri. May 29
Nice day. The men disced, dragged & planted corn. Finished planting corn this P.M. Mon bought a new corn plow (single row) at Hod E's. yesterday & they bro't it out this P.M. Dean tried it out as soon as it got here. Arthur & Maxine went to a party at Thompson's for Eloise McMullen in eve. Loyal went home with papa tonite.

Sat. May 30
Dandy nice day. Dean plowed corn in A.M. We went to Decorah in P.M. Circus in Decorah, but when we got down there the boys didn't like the looks of it so they went to the movie's. Large crowd in town. I got a new dress. Drove up to Mrs. Millers on our way home. Chas & Helen were there looking for the rest of the boys too come but none but us came. Walter Yagers came just after we got there & stayed a few minutes. We got home about 6:30. Arthur stayed down to Decorah & came home some time in the nite with Ed D. We did up the chores & went to B.O. Quite a crowd in B.O. Took Henry L. home on our way home. Got home about 12.

Sun. May 31
Nice day. Quite warm. Looked pretty rainy in P.M. & eve. Rained in the night & it sure was a nice rain. Stanley, Warren & Sid were here for dinner. They left about 2 because they all had to go back home again today. Just came to talk over some business matters. Mon & I took a walk up thro' the woods after they left.

Mon. June 1
Rained until about 11 but cleared up & was nice in P.M. Mon went up to fix the mail box about 11:30 & then on up to Red's & went to B.O. with Red. The boys & I went to B.O. about 1. The boys & I went up home. Isa & the boys were there part of the time. Mon came up about 4 & he & the boys moved mama's cook stove from the sitting room to the kitchen. Had to move it out of the front door & out thro' the yard & in at the kitchen door. Lester came just as they got it in the kitchen & so he helped get the stove pipe up. Loyal came home with us. Primary Election today. Mon voted but I didn't. We stopped at Red's & got some green onions for supper. Rained in the nite.

Tues. June 2
Not so nice in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Arthur went up to Fritz's & borrowed his walking plow in A.M. & plowed the lot behind the corn crib & dragged that & the potato patch. Dean plowed corn. Arthur plowed corn in P.M. too. They finished plowing the small piece. Mon, Loyal & I went to B.O. & got our last Corn Hog Check ($26.69) & then went to Decorah. Quite a few in Decorah. Went over to the Greenhouse on our way home & got some cabbage plants for us & tomato plants for Bea. Red came down about 6:30 & got the tomato plants & some strawberry plants. Pretty cold tonite.

Wed. June 3
Dandy nice day. Read cool though. Dean plowed corn all day. Mon & Arthur plowed & dragged the garden in A.M. & then Arthur & Loyal took the plow back to Fritz. Arthur plowed corn in P.M. I washed in A.M. & ironed some in P.M. Mon & Loyal went over to Lovliens in P.M. & got some potatoes & after they got back Mon & I set out some strawberry & cabbage plants. Went to B.O. in eve. There was an animal show down on Ern Reed's lot & Loyal, Dean & I went. The animals did real well but the old man was so mean to them. We got home about 11. Clifford Halverson ground feed here this A.M.

Thurs. June 4
Nice day but cool. The boys plowed corn in A.M. & went to B.O. in P.M. & helped mama. Loyal went along too. Mon loyal & I planted potatoes. We finished planting potatoes in P.M. & then made some garden.

Fri. June 5
Nice in A.M. but was cloudy in P.M. & sprinkled off & on. Rained some in the nite. We planted some watermelon & muskmelons in P.M. Mon, Loyal & I went over to Selmer Thorson's in P.M. & got some tomato plants & set them out when we got home.

Sat. June 6
Rather cloudy all day. Rained quite a shower in P.M. Dean plowed corn until it rained. Arthur hauled manure. We went up town in eve. Loyal went up to mama's & stayed all nite. The Joan of Arc had a Food Sale at Cecil's in eve. Took in about $10.

Sun. June 7
Rather nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & looked rainy. We went up home & spent the day. Gordon P., Ray Mc. & Walter W. were here awhile in A.M. early.

Mon. June 8
Nice in A.M. but clouded up & looked rainy in P.M. The boys plowed corn. Mon & I planted more garden in P.M. Loyal came down with papa in A.M. when he went to Fred W's. Isa, Lester & Harlan were here awhile in P.M. We were up in the garden so they were out there with us. Lester got the old stove out of the sink hole for junk. Pearl, Howard & the girls were here awhile in eve. We had a little shower in eve & a hard storm in the nite. Lots of thunder & lightning & wind & rain.

Tues. June 9
Not such a nice day. Cloudy quite a bit of the day. Didn't do much of anything. Pretty cool at nite.

Wed. June 10
Nice day, but rather windy. I washed & ironed. The men did a number of odd jobs. Merlin Cassel was here in P.M. Dean & Loyal went over to Dave's after supper. Mon, Arthur & I went to B.O. awhile in eve. Mighty cold tonite.

Thurs. June 11
Dandy nice day. The sun was pretty warm. The Joan of Arc had their picnic at Ole Albertson's. Down on the creek, east of the house. Not so many of the Club members there, but we had a fine dinner & a good time. Some of us stopped at the house at Ole's, on our way home, awhile. We went down to Gordon's a few minutes on our way home too. Got home about 5:30.

Fri. June 12
Nice warm day. The boys plowed corn until Arthur broke one of the tongues on the two row about 10. He & Loyal went to Prosper & got a board & stopped up home & papa made a tongue for him. They were up home for dinner. Vincel Delay was here in P.M. so Mon plowed corn for Dean. I worked in the garden some in P.M. Mon went over to Howards in eve. Walter W. was here awhile. Robert Underbakke got lost in eve & the whole countryside, about, was out looking for him. Found him in a chicken coop. Mon & Arthur didn't go because they thought they would find him before they got there but they didn't find him until after 10. Pete Surley was killed by a tractor tonite.

Sat. June 13
Nice day. Nice day. Somewhat warmer. Arthur, Loyal & I went to B.O. early in A.M. & got papa & went to Decorah. Arthur & I both got hair cuts. I got a white hat. Stopped at Mrs. Millers a min on our way home. Got back home here about 12. Mon & Dean plowed corn in A.M. & Arthur & Dean in P.M. Loyal stayed up home at noon. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. I went up to the Pavilion. Henningsgaard's played. Good music & a big crowd. We got home about 2. It looked pretty rainy when we came home but it only sprinkled.

Sun. June 14
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Red was down in A.M. We went up home for dinner. Claude's, Lester's, Dell's, Aunt Lissa, Aunt Till & Uncle Albert were there too. Had a picnic dinner. Sure had a good dinner & a good visit. Loyal came home with us. Arthur Dean & Roy Wernett went to Prosper in eve. Grace & Leonard B. were here a few minutes in eve.

Mon. June 15
Pretty warm day. The boys plowed corn. I washed in A.M. Mon, Loyal & I went up to Forrest Wanless' in P.M. & got some potatoes. Stopped up home a minute. Geo. W. was here in eve. Mon mowed alfalfa in A.M.

Tues. June 16
Pretty hot day. The boys plowed corn in A.M. & then in P.M. they put in 2 loads of alfalfa. We had quite a storm about 6 P.M. but cleared off & was nice then until about 12 we had another shower. Bill Leonhart & Geo. W. were here in eve. Harrison Sheley died this A.M. early.

Wed. June 17
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up at noon & rained very hard. Got colder after that. The boys plowed corn in A.M. & Mon & Dean went out again about 4 P.M. to plow. Pearl & the girls were here in P.M. also Happy & Bob. Mon & Geo W. went to Mabel just after dinner. Mon traded the old mule & some hay for George's car & he got that this P.M. Mr. Surley was buried today.

Thurs. June 18
Nice day. Pretty cool in morning & eve, but warmed up during the day. The boys plowed corn in A.M. Mon, Loyal & I hoed in the garden. Geo W. was here awhile in A.M. Mon took me to B.O. at noon to Mr. Sheley's funeral. We practiced at Alberta's before the funeral. Zoa, Alberta, Vera, Philip & I sang. I played too. We sang "Will There Be Any Stars in My Crown", "No Night There" & "God Will Take Care of You." Quite a crowd out to the funeral. It was at the M.E. Church & Rev. Sandbach of Decorah spoke. Rev. Prust is on his vacation. Arthur came up after me after the funeral. The men put up hay in P.M. Arthur went to Lodge in eve & the rest of us went up to Red's.

Fri. June 19
Nice day. Pretty hot in P.M. Arthur plowed corn all day. We got in the last load of hay this A.M. & then Dean plowed corn in P.M. too. Mon, Dean, Loyal & I went to B.O. in eve. The boys & I went to the Hall to a program given by the 4 H Club of our neighborhood. 3 1 act plays, singing & dancing. It was sure good. Mon listened to the Louis Schmeling fight. Schmeling won. Bea & Red were down this A.M. & bro't the hog home.

Sat. June 20
Dandy nice day. Arthur helped Lovliens hay. The rest of us went to B.O. early in A.M. & got mama & went to Decorah. Loyal went home & stayed. We got back here about 1 & then had dinner. Mon & Dean plowed corn. We went to B.O. in eve. Arthur went to Decorah with papa. Mon & I went down to Breezy Hill to the dance awhile. "Moellers Old Timers" played. They were sure good. We went back to B.O. & got the boys. Got home about 1. Leonard Blaess got hit by a car in B.O. tonite & got quite badly hurt, so the rushed him right to the Hospital at Decorah.

Sun. June 21
Nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & sprinkled some in P.M. Rained some in the nite. Mon went over to Howards in A.M. & then he went to Canton with Howard & Fred. The boys went to B.O. a few minutes early in A.M. Papa went fishing & he stopped here on his way home & left us some fish. Dean & I went over to Howards in P.M., late. Leonard is as well as can be expected. Henry, Harold & Mabel L. were here a few minutes in P.M. Mon & I went over to Albert E's. in eve. Laura Cox was buried at B.O. this P.M.

Mon. June 22
Dandy nice day. The boys plowed corn. Finished going thro' it the 3rd time. Mon was over to Howards in A.M. Leonard's collar bone & shoulder on his right side are crushed & 7 ribs are broken. His hip is bruised too. Pearl was over at noon & called the Hospital. He is as well as he can be. Mon & I went to Decorah in P.M. Went to Mrs. Millers & to Mrs. Johnson's. Didn't even go down town. Mon, Dean & I went over to Lovlien's in eve.

Tues. June 23
Dandy day. I washed. Mon & Arthur cleaned out the garden west of the corn crib & did other jobs. Dean helped Bill Erickson hay today. Isa & Lester bro't Loyal here while the men were milking. They were on their way to Spillville. We went up town in eve. Went up home a minute.

Wed. June 24
Pretty nice day. Pretty warm too & dusty. We took Mon over to Lovlien's about 7 to go West with Happy, Bobbie & Marion P. Happy is taking Bobbie home to Spokane & they are going too stop at Yellow Stone Park & Aunt Lucy's & George P's. They left L's. about 7:15. We went form there to B.O. & got mama & Harlan. Mama came down & hoed their potatoes. Arthur took them back to B.O. about 5:30. Minnie Seeley died tonite.

Thurs. June 25
Pretty warm day. The boys plowed corn. Arthur broke his plow in A.M. & had too go to B.O. & get it welded. Loyal & I worked in the garden most of A.M. I worked some in P.M. We all worked there in eve. Looked pretty rainy in P.M. but just sprinkled.

Fri. June 26
Another hot, dusty day. The boys plowed corn. I did a little of everything. Looked pretty rainy again in P.M. but just sprinkled a little. Pearl, Howard & the girls & Chas. & Roy W. were here a few minutes in eve. We worked in the garden after they left.

Sat. June 27
Another hot day. The boys went to Decorah early in A.M. & got back home again about 10. Loyal went home & stayed. The boys plowed corn in P.M. Dean got a new pair of shoes. We went up town awhile in eve. Got a card from Mon. Minnie Seelye was buried at Mabel this P.M.

Sun. June 28
Hot, dusty day. Dust was just terrible. Claude's, Lester's, Dell's, Aunt Lissa & Ronald Reed were here & picked gooseberries. Had a dandy good picnic dinner. Dell & Claude & some of the little boys went tot he Ball Game at B.O. in P.M. They all had lunch before they left, which was bout 6 o'clock.

Mon. June 29
Not so nice in A.M. early & part of the P.M. was cloudy. Just sprinkled a little in A.M. early. The boys finished plowing their corn crosswise this A.M. & then went to fixing fence. Loyal came down in P.M. We went up town in eve. Went up to mama's a few minutes. Claude's were there & Ruth Coltie & Ruthie. Got 2 cards from Mon.

Tues. June 30
Looked rather rainy in A.M. but was nice the rest of the day. Not quite so hot today. The boys finished their fence around the elm trees & potatoes about 3 P.M. I hoed in the elm trees in A.M. & again in P.M. We hoed & plowed west of the corn crib in eve. Effie & Ray Mc. were here in A.M. & picked gooseberries. Charlie W. mowed hay here for Geo W. today.

Wed. July 1
Nice day. Not quite so hot. Pretty dusty. The boys fixed fence in A.M. They went to Decorah right after dinner & plowed corn when they got home. Loyal went along with them, when they went to Decorah, as far as the four corners & then he went home. I hoed most of the day. We worked in the potatoes & melons in eve.

Thurs. July 2
Nice day. The boys plowed corn. Mrs. Wernett & Vera were here in P.M. & picked gooseberries. Lizzie came over in P.M. & she & I went & picked berries. We went up town in eve. Arthur went to Lodge & I went up home.

Fri. July 3
Sprinkled some early in A.M. enough too settle the dust so I washed & ironed. The boys plowed corn. We got a card from Mon today.

Sat. July 4
Not quite so hot. Cloudy some of the time in P.M. & eve but didn't rain any. The boys plowed corn in A.M. Johnnie & Earl Wernett came over in P.M. (He is visiting at Geo's). Them & the boys went up town awhile in P.M. We went up town in eve. Went up to the Pavilion. Quite a large crowd. Got home about 1:30. The roan heifer had a calf this A.M. early.

Sun. July 5
Terribly warm day. Art Walters & Roy W. were here awhile in A.M. We went up home & spent the day. Olive & the kids were there in P.M. too.

Mon. July 6
Pretty hot day. Dust was just terrible. Dean plowed corn until about 3 P.M. He finished that piece. Arthur mowed in A.M. & helped Geo & Johnnie get a load of hay in P.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve & then on over to Fred's & went swimming. Arthur & I worked in the melons. Pretty hot nite.

Tues. July 7
Mighty hot day. We put up hay. Arthur got pretty warm in A.M. & didn't feel very good. Got thro' about 3:30. Loyal walked down this A.M.

Wed. July 8
Mighty hot day. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur doesn't feel very good. We went up after the mail in eve. Went on up to Red's a few minutes. Got a card from Mon.

Thurs. July 9
Pretty hot day. We went to B.O. about 8:30 & then papa, Arthur & I went to Decorah. Papa & Arthur both went to the Dr. Papa got too warm yesterday. Got back up home a little after 12. Had dinner there & then I went to Club at Dorothea R's. Quite a crowd out & sure had a good lunch. Got home about 4:30. Geo & Johnnie were over in eve awhile & then Dean & Arthur went up town with them a few minutes. Pretty warm nite. Cecil Brace died this A.M.

Fri. July 10
Looked pretty stormy early in A.M. but only sprinkled a little here, just enough to lay the dust for a few minutes. Terribly hot about noon. Clouded up again in P.M. & looked rainy but we didn't get any rain. Dean mowed in P.M. We went over to Geo's a little while in eve. Nora & Fred L. & Ray Webb came while we were there. We came home about 8:30 & then Arthur went to B.O. with Johnnie & Ray. Dean stopped at Howard's too see Leonard B. He is getting along just as well as he can. Hot nite again.

Sat. July 11
Hottest day we have had it seemed to me & we have sure had some hot ones. Arthur mowed most of the day. Geo, Johnnie & Walter were here & put up hay in our barn all day. They didn't stay here for dinner though. We went to B.O. in eve. Johnnie & Ray W. rode up with us. Dean rode back from B.O. with Leonard B. He drove his car for the first time tonite, since the accident. We got home about 11:15. Loyal stayed at mamas tonite.

Sun. July 12
Hot old day again. Johnnie came over in A.M. & went up town with us. We all went up home. Johnnie & Arthur went to Niagra Cave in P.M. Had a good shower at B.O. in P.M. but it hadn't rained any here. Olive & the kids were at mama's in P.M. Claude, Leonard & Marion went to the ball game. Cecil Brace was buried at B.O. this P.M. Dean went over to Howards in eve awhile. Hot nite again.

Mon. July 13
Another scorcher of a day. Arthur mowed most of the day. Dean plowed potatoes & corn in A.M. & helped Geo. put up hay in P.M. They finished filling our barn in P.M. & took 1 jag home. One of Charlie's horses got too warm & fell just as they got their load of hay to the barn. He broke the wagon tongue when he fell (Our wagon). Charlie came over about 9:30 & got him. Don't know if he was able too get home or not. I picked enough raspberries, up in the woods, for dinner & supper. Frankie Miller & Roger K. were here in eve awhile. Terribly hot nite.

Tues. July 14
Mighty hot day again. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur went to B.O. early in A.M. but Cecil didn't have any so he had too go up again in P.M. He & Dean got there just about the time Mon, Happy & Marion got back from their western trip so Mon came home with the boys. Was sure glad too see him. Dorothy & Harold S. were here a while after dinner & the boys were up there in eve. Mon & I walked out too see the oat field after supper. Cooled off some in the nite.

Wed. July 15
Quite cool & nice in A.M. early but warmed up again during the day. Mon & Dean plowed corn in A.M. Arthur went up to Harold S's. too help him fix the binder. He had to go to B.O. & Loyal came home with him when he came at noon. Dean helped Geo W. get a load of hay in A.M. Harold came with his tractor & binder after dinner & started cutting our grain. The boys took him home after supper & went on to B.O. & got some gasoline for the tractor. Geo. W. finished getting hay here today.

Thurs. July 16
Hot day again. They finished cutting the oats about 2:30 P.M. So hot the men didn't shock much. Pearl & the girls were over in P.M. Dave was over in eve.

Fri. July 17
Hot day again. The men went out early & shocked until about 10. I did my washing & then we took the clothes up home too dry them. Too much dust here. Isa & Harlan came down to mama's for dinner too. Loyal didn't come back home with us. The men went out & shocked in eve. Looked pretty rainy in eve & nite but didn't rain any.

Sat. July 18
Looked pretty rainy in A.M. early & sprinkled a little but cleared off & was another hot day. They finished shocking here about 8:30 A.M. They went up to Harold's & started at his grain at noon. Arthur runs the tractor & Harold the binder. They got home about 6. I scrubbed & then ironed the rest of the day until 4 P.M. We went to B.O. in eve. The Joan of Arc had an ice cream social at Mae Ward's for the benefit of the cemetry. Sold 17 gal of ice cream besides all the other food. Large crowd. Got home about 12.

Sun. July 19
Nice day. Not quite so hot. Didn't do much of anything. Arthur rode Nell in A.M. Went with Johnnie & Walter W. He & Dean went to B.O. a few minutes in P.M.

Mon. July 20
Nice day. Cooler in A.M. but warmed up in P.M. The men worked at Harold S's. in A.M. Got home about 11. Mama & papa were down in P.M. They pulled weeds out of the potatoes. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve.

Tues. July 21
Nice day. Mon mowed alfalfa in A.M. The boys fixed fence all day. Mon helped them some in P.M. Arthur & Dean went to B.O. in eve. Jack & Mrs. W. were here in eve. Glen A. was here awhile too. He was pretty well stewed. I was over to Howards a few minutes in A.M.

Wed. July 22
Nice in A.M. Quite warm. Dean raked the alfalfa. They got one load in before noon & went after another load in P.M. & it started too cloud up. Sure looked like a bad storm. Got it partly unloaded when the storm struck. Wind blew hard from every direction. Rained too hard to soak in the ground. Most of it run off. Arthur was up to Harolds all day. The white cow had a calf tonite.

Thurs. July 23
Nice day but pretty windy. Arthur was at Harolds. Mon & Dean had to shock some of the grain over again. They finished putting up the rest of the alfalfa. I washed in A.M. Arthur took Dorothy & I too Club at Stella Reed's. Quite a crowd out. Had a shower for Ethel Reed. Had a dandy lunch. We rode back to Dorothys with Rev. Prust's & then I walked home from there. The car stopped on Arthur coming home from Harolds & he had to walk home. Mon got Howard to take us up where the car was & then he pushed it to B.O. Some loose connection & when Roy got that fixed it was all O.K. so we drove it home. Arthur didn't go.

Fri. July 24
Not quite so warm. Sprinkled off & on all day & a little hard for awhile in P.M. The men were at Harold's until about 2:30 it rained some so Mon & Dean came home. Arthur is going to work for Harold awhile. I ironed. Mon & I worked in the garden in eve.

Sat. July 25
Pretty warm day. Mon & Dean went up to Harold's in A.M. & then Mon went threshing for Harold at Arthur S's. & Brayton's. He got home about 6. Arthur bro't Dean home about 5 & then he went right back to Harold's. We went to B.O .in eve. Got home about 12. Arthur came home with us. Queen had a little calf this A.M.

Sun. July 26
Nice day. Quite warm. Mon & Arthur went down to Jack Halse's with Happy & Elmer in A.M. too see about threshing. Dean rode Nell around. Mon & I went down to the creek about 4 P.M. fishing. Got 17 small ones. The boys were milking when we got back. Ed D. was here in eve.

Mon. July 27
Nice warm day. Mon took Arthur up to Harold's early in A.M. & then he & Dean went up there to work when they got their chores done but Harold & Arthur had to go threshing so they came home the middle of A.M. Dave & Geo W. were here in A.M. Mon, Dave & I went over to Dawley's in P.M. They are threshing over there. Dean rode Nell around. Howard came over in eve & then Ed D., Walter W. & Arthur W. & then we went to B.O. with Ed & the boys. Alida Blomgreen rode home from B.O. with us. She went over to Dave's to visit awhile.

Tues. July 28
Terribly windy day. Dust was awful. Didn't do much of anything. Dean rode Nell quite a bit during the day.

Wed. July 29
Nice day. Pretty warm. Loyal came down early in A.M. Mon went to B.O. early in A.M. Dean went riding Nell. Both of the men went threshing in P.M. at Charlie & then Geo. W's. Didn't quite finish at Geo's. Broke down. Loyal & I went over to Pearl's in P.M. awhile. Arthur was down awhile in eve. We went to B.O. in eve. Pretty cool.

Thurs. July 30
Nice day. Dean & Mon went to Geo's & Dave's in A.M. Mon came home about 10:30 & took me to B.O. We got our supplies for threshers & got mama too help. He went right back threshing as soon as we got home. Loyal stayed at his folks. They all came down after dinner. They threshed at Howard's in P.M. & then over here. It was rather late when they got here & then broke down when they just nicely got started. We took mama home when we got the chores done.

Fri. July 31
Nice day. Plenty warm. We finished our threshing this A.M. Got 602 bushels. Lesters were down again & Arthur went & got mama after he got here. The rig went from here to Harry's & Mon & Dean helped there (Ed's rig). They got back about 4 & then we took mama home. Andrew Haugen & the kids were here in eve. Dean was over to Dave's.

Sat. Aug. 1
Nice day. Quite a breeze. Mighty dusty. Mon threshed at Lange's & Dean at Andrew's, Gust's & Harold S's. We went up town in eve. Loyal went home & stayed all nite. Arthur came home with us.

Sun. Aug. 2
Pretty warm day. Windy & dusty. Papa came down early in A.M. & got Arthur & they went to Lanesboro to an I.O.O.F. Picnic. They got back about 5. Dean was gone all day so Mon & I were alone all day. Arthur W. & Walter W. were here awhile in eve. Looked pretty rainy in eve but didn't rain.

Mon. Aug. 3
Looked rainy all day but didn't rain any. Pretty warm & stuffy until late in P.M. the wind got in the north & it was cooler. Mon took Arthur up to Harold's about 4 & then we all went up there to thresh when we got the chores done. Kate was there helping Dorothy too. Had an early dinner. The rig went to Gordon's from there & got him threshed out before 2. Dorothy took me up there so I could ride home with Mon but Flossie brought me home in her new Dodge. It sure is a beauty. I was up in the garden after I got home & found a ripe tomato & some cukes. First I have found. Mart & Kate came along & stopped to talk awhile & when they started on they found a rattle snake in the road between here & the corner. Mon ran up with a neck yoke & they killed it. First one I ever saw alive unless it was in a cage. Too close to the house too suit me.

Tues. Aug. 4
Nice day. Rather cool breeze from the north. Mon, Dean & I were up to Fritz Koenigs threshing most of the day. Ruby helped Ruth after 2 P.M. before they started up again. Got home about 4. We went to B.O. in eve to a Show down on Ern Reeds flat. Adam's Co. It was good too. Quite a few out. Dean rode home with Frank Gates.

Wed. Aug. 5
Looked pretty rainy in A.M. & off & on all day but didn't rain any. Mon went down to Mart L's. in A.M. He & Dean helped Jack W. hay in P.M. Kate, O'Dean & I went to Lovlien's in P.M. to Lutheran L.A.S. Quite a few out & a dandy lunch. Went to B.O. in eve to the Show. It was good. Large crowd out.

Thurs. Aug. 6
Pretty warm day. Mighty dusty. Mon & Dean helped Jack W. put up hay in P.M. I rode up to Gordon's with them & then Dorothy S. came up there & got me & we went to Club at Ella Reed's. Alice S. went along too. Quite a few out. Had a dandy lunch. We went down town & then Dorothy bro't me home. The men were home for supper. Mart L. was here awhile late in P.M. Loyal came down this A.M. We had corn out of the field for dinner.

Fri. Aug. 7
Pretty warm day. Mon, Dean & Loyal went down to Mart's early in A.M. & got 4 pigs. I washed & then we took the clothes up home to dry them. Isa was there awhile in P.M. We came home about 5. Loyal stayed with his mother.

Sat. Aug. 8
Pretty warm, windy, dusty day. Mon went to Decorah about 11. The Price boys all met at Decorah today too talk business. Dean had all the chores done when Mon got home & we were ready too go to town. Arthur drove papa's car to Decorah in eve & then came home & stayed all nite. Quite a crowd in town. We got home about 12.

Sun. Aug. 9
Hot, windy, dusty day. Warren & Stanley were up a few minutes in A.M. before they left for Chicago. Mon & Dean had some fence to fix. Arthur took papa's car home in A.M. & then Mon went up after him. They didn't get back until after 1. Birthday party for Bertha Gilbertson today but Mon wouldn't go.

Mon. Aug. 10
Hot, dusty day. Mon took Arthur up to Harold's about 5 A.M. Gathered some tomatoes & cukes in A.M. Didn't do much in P.M. Lester, Harlan & Loyal were here awhile in P.M. Loyal stayed. Dean & Johnnie W. went hunting woodchucks in P.M. No luck. Mon went up to Seelye's in A.M.

Tues. Aug. 11
Hot, dusty, windy day. Mon went over to Gilbert's in A.M. & then he & Dean went at the Whippet trying to fix it. We went up town awhile in P.M. Ruth & Fritz were down in eve.

Wed. Aug. 12
Hot, dusty day. Mart L. was here in A.M. & got water. Isa, Lester & Harlan were here awhile in P.M. & they went on to Bluffton from here. Loyal went with them. Mon went to B.O. in P.M. & Loyal came back with him. Dean went riding Nell. Duane & Bobby Arnold were here in P.M. Arthur was down in eve awhile.

Cloudy all A.M. Had a nice rain for a couple of hrs. Cleared off & was nice in P.M. Mora & Fred Lange & Ruth & Evelyn were here awhile in A.M. We went to Decorah in P.M. Wasn't there very long. Dean & I each got a hair cut. Saw Ruth P. Got new batteries for our radio.

Fri. Aug. 14
Pretty hot day. I washed & ironed. Dean hauled manure in A.M. but it was too warm & he went visiting in P.M. Ed D. came about 10 & Mon & Loyal went with him. Loyal went home & Mon & Ed went to Decorah & all over I guess. They didn't get home until 6. Mart L. was here in P.M.

Sat. Aug. 15
Nice day, but pretty hot. Mon sold our old sows (to Lloyd K.) & the bull. Stub R. hauled them this A.M. about 9. Dave sold his sows & so they all went together. Dean went along too. They got home about 11. The 6 old sows weighed 2370 lbs. @ $8.25 per cwt. $195.50 & the bull weighed 1430 lbs. @ $4.25 per cwt. $60.80 making $256.30. Mon went up at noon & got Arthur & he went to Decorah with us. Large crowd in town & mighty hot. I was with Ruth all P.M. I fainted on the street & caused some excitement I guess. Mon had Dr. Fritchen come down & then they took me up to his office to rest awhile before I came home so that made us late getting home. Dr. said I had low blood pressure. We got home about 6 & then after they did the chores we went up town awhile. Quite a few in town. We got home about 9:30. It was coming up quite a storm & was raining when we came home. Rained hard after we got home. Quite a lot of bad thunder & lightning. Arthur went home with Ruth from Decorah.

Sun. Aug. 16
Nice day. Not too hot. Dean went to B.O. with Johnnie early in A.M. Mon & I went up home for dinner. Claude's were there too. Got home about 6. Ruth & Francis bro't Arthur home about 8:45 & they stayed until about 10.

Mon. Aug. 17
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained. Cleared off again later in P.M. Mon took Arthur up to Harold's about 5. He & I went to B.O. & got mama & went to Decorah. Had trouble with the car going to B.O. so we didn't get to Decorah until about 11:45. Went right up too see Dr. F. I had an examination there & then went down to the Hospital & had a blood count taken. Came back up town & had dinner & then run around with mama until 2 & got to see the Dr. again. Got a "shot" of liver in the hip which didn't feel so good. Nearly keeled over again. It rained hard down town before we left & on our way home but stopped before we got to B.O. Got home about 4. It hadn't rained so much here. Mart & Kate L. were there a few minutes after we got home. I canned a couple of qts. of tomatoes after I got home. Didn't sleep very good during the nite.

Tues. Aug. 18
Nice day. Not too warm. Mon & I went to Decorah about 10 A.M. Got to see Dr. right away, got my "shot", rested awhile & came home. Got home about 12:30. Dean & I canned 10 qts. of ice water pickles in P.M. & then he went hunting woodchucks. Mon went up to Ole's & to B.O.

Wed. Aug. 19
Rather cool in A.M. but pretty warm in P.M. Mon & Dean threshed at Fred W's. all day. They broke down in A.M. so it took them that much longer. I went to B.O. about 11:20 with Mart, Kate, Glen & Nora Lange. Kate entertained Lutheran L.A.S. at the church parlors & Nora & I helped her. She had a good crowd & good lunch. She served sandwiches, cookies, pickles & coffee. Had to wait for Glen to come back with the car so we didn't get home until about 7.

Thurs. Aug. 20
Rather cloudy all day. Rained off & on during the day. Rained most of the night I guess. We sure got the ground soaked up this time. Mon & I went to Decorah about 8:30. Went to see Dr. Had to wait a few minutes. Got another "shot" again today. Got a bushel of peaches $2.90. Fair Week in Decorah & there was sure a crows in town. We got home about 12. Stopped at Claude's but they were not at home. Canned 5 qts. of peaches in P.M. & Mon helped me pick the tomatoes & cukes.

Fri. Aug. 21
Looked rainy most of the day. Sprinkled some & again in eve & nite. Ed D. was here in A.M. Dean rode Nell to Bluffton in A.M. to get some sugar & jar rubbers but he couldn't get much sugar. Mon helped me peel peaches & I got them canned today. Canned 24 qts. today so I got 29 qts. out of the bushel besides all we ate. Canned 2 qts. of tomatoes too & took care of some cukes so I had a pretty good days work.

Sat. Aug. 22
Mighty hot day. Dean went over to Claude's early in A.M. & went to the Decorah Fair with them. Last day of the Fair. Mon went up to Red's & Harold S's. about noon. I did a little of everything. Arthur came home while Mon was milking. He cleaned up & went to B.O. with us & then him & papa went to Decorah. It rained quite hard again this eve so we came home early from town. Ole Stockman rode home from town with us & it was raining so hard when we got down at the corner he didn't go up to Fritz but came home with us & stayed all nite. The boys got home about 2. Arthur drove papa's car home.

Sun. Aug. 23
Pretty hot day again. Ole stayed until after dinner. Arthur went up town a few minutes & Ole rode up with him. We did up the chores early & went up to the Prosper Pavilion to the Plymouth Rock Church Supper. Sure an awful crowd but bum supper. We stayed after the V8 was given away. Each had a ticket on that. Clarence Landon from Chatfield won it. Got home about 12:30.

Mon. Aug. 24
Nice day. I washed & ironed. Mon took Arthur up to Harold about 8 A.M. too help him today. His last day. Mon helped Jack W. thresh in P.M. Harold bro't Arthur home when they finished chores.

Tues. Aug. 25
Nice day but cooler. Looked rainy in A.M. but only sprinkled. I started to pick cukes in A.M. but a man from the Omaha Correspondence School came too see Arthur about enrolling so I came to the house & didn't get back again. Arthur enrolled. Mon & Arthur went to Decorah in P.M. & I went down to Mettie's. Got some little apples too can. Went over to Olive's on our way home & got some dill too. Arlan Arnold was here in P.M. He is visiting at Lizzie's.

Wed. Aug. 26
Cool day. Rather cloudy part of the day. I finished picking cukes & tomatoes in A.M. Mon went to B.O. & Prosper. The boys hauled manure in A.M. Mon took Arthur over to Arthur Smith's at noon, too work a few days. Dean hauled manure awhile in P.M. Arlan was over awhile. Merle & Elsie were here a few minutes. They got some cukes. Mon helped me fix apples awhile. I canned 5 qts. tomatoes & 9½ qts. of apples in P.M. Started too rain about the time we went to bed & kept it up all nite I guess. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning.

Thurs. Aug. 27
Rather cloudy some times during the day but didn't rain until nite. It rained very hard then & the wind blew hard too. Lightning & thunder were pretty bad. Went down to the Dr. again in P.M. Arland was here with Dean when we got home & stayed all nite. Mr. Kuhn was here & ground feed in P.M. Pretty cool in eve.

Fri. Aug. 28
Quite a nice day but cooler. Mon went to B.O. in A.M. & got mama & Harlan. He got some more apples at Elsie's too. We canned tomatoes & apples then 37½ qts. He took them home about 5:30. Arthur came home with him in A.M. too.

Sat. Aug. 29
Quite a nice day but cool. Mon went & got mama again this A.M. & we canned apples again. Donlan's bro't apples over to her house for me so we canned them 20 qts. Ed D. was here for dinner. They got the Whippet fixed this A.M. so we can drive that. We went to Decorah in P.M. took mama home on our way down. Dean stayed with here until eve. Quite a crowd in town. Saw Ruth & was with her all the time. Got home about 6:30. Did up the chores & went to B.O. Quite a few in town. Rained some while we were on our way up there. Dean came home with us.

Sun. Aug. 30
Nice day. Not too hot. We went up home & got papa & mama & then went to Lena's. Claude's, Lester's, Walter Barth's, James Assum's & Mary & Edward were there. Had a picnic dinner. Had an awful good dinner & lunch. Had a good time. Had some pictures taken. Got home about 6:15. Loyal came home with us.

Mon. Aug. 31
Nice day. Picked tomatoes & cukes & canned tomatoes. Mon went up to Ole's in A.M. & got Marion to come & help him awhile. The boys hauled manure. They took Marion back to Ole's in P.M. & they all went along up there & helped shingle. Merle & Elsie were over in eve. They got the cukes.

Tues. Sept. 1
Rained some in A.M. & was cloudy all day. Mon & I went out east & got some plums in P.M. & I canned 8½ qts. Rather cool.

Wed. Sept. 2
Cloudy & cool in A.M. but quite nice in P.M. Mon helped me pick tomatoes in A.M. I picked cukes in P.M. Mon went over to Gilbert's in A.M. awhile. The boys hauled manure in A.M. Mon, Arthur & Loyal went to B.O. in P.M. Dean mowed alfalfa.

Thurs. Sept. 3
Rather cloudy early in A.M. but cleared off & was a nice day. Cooler though. Johnnie came over early in A.M. & all the boys went hunting woodchucks. Mon & I went to Decorah about 9:30. Went to the Dr. Had too wait quite a while for him. Got another shot today. Got home about 12:30. Had dinner & then Mon, Dean & Loyal took me to Club at Dorothy S's. & they went on too town for a minute. Not such a big crowd out to Club. Initiation. Mrs. (?Tatro?) & Hazel Bucknell. It was good. Dorothy sure had a good lunch. Arthur didn't come after me until after 5 so Dorothy & I got all the dishes done & put away.

Fri. Sept. 4
Nice day. Mon went up early in A.M. to get mama. Isa & Harlan came along. We washed, ironed & canned tomatoes. Arthur took them home about 4:30. Loyal went home & Harlan stayed all nite. We put in 1 load of alfalfa late in P.M.

Sat. Sept. 5
Rained hard in A.M. was cloudy all day but didn't rain much in P.M. Dean went over t Howard's in P.M. We went up town in P.M. I went up home awhile. They got in 1 load of alfalfa this A.M. before it rained. Harlan walked home in A.M.

Sun. Sept. 6
Nice day. Pretty hot. Mon & I picked tomatoes in A.M. The boys went to B.O. Johnnie & Dale Arnold went along too. Dale spent the rest of the day here. Geo. W's. & Johnnie were over & spent the P.M. Looked mighty bad in eve. Wind blew hard & it rained hard for awhile.

Mon. Sept. 7
Labor Day. Nice day. Rather warm. Mon & I picked the cukes. Got a bushel. Gave them to Lydia. Did odd jobs. Dean hauled manure in A.M. Arthur went to B.O. Arthur & Dean got in the rest of the alfalfa in P.M. Mon & I went out to the old hay loader to get some bolts in P.M. They did up the chores early & we went down to the Community Hall to their Labor Day blow out. They sure had a swell feed. Very large crowd. Got home about 10:30.

Tues. Sept. 8
Nice day. Very warm. Mon, Arthur & I went & got Red & Bea about 9 A.M. & stopped at Arthur S's. too get the trailer (Had too go to B.O. to get the hitch off Arthur's car) & then went to Decorah. Went up home too see about the furniture & things we wanted from there. Worked there until after 12 & then went down town & had lunch & then back up to work again. Mr. Willis came up to look at the furniture & put a price on it while we were there. Got home about 5:30 & then Mon took Red & Bea home. I was about all in. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. Had a hard rain & plenty of thunder & lightning in the nite.

Wed. Sept. 9
Nice day. Arthur took Dave & Lizzie over to Sam's about 10 A.M. & worked there the rest of the day. Mon went up & got mama at noon & she helped me in P.M. Changed beds & got the boys room fixed some. We took her home about 5:30.

Thurs. Sept. 10
Looked pretty rainy early in A.M. & did rain some. Mon, Dean & I went (about 10) & got Bea & then got mama & we went back to Decorah. I went to the Dr. Got my last shot for awhile anyway. Got some different medicine. We went up to the house & got some more things & some for Bea. Went over to Mrs. Millers a minute. Got home about 5. Stopped at Red's a few minutes on our way home. Red's 34th Birthday. Arthur picked some seed corn in P.M. Rained most of the nite again. Plenty of wind & thunder & lightning.

Fri. Sept. 11
Not very nice day. Didn't do so much. Went up town in P.M. I went up home. Aunt Lissa, Neva & Neva's friend were there too. Isa came down too. Neva looks fine.

Sat. Sept. 12
Not such a bad day. I scrubbed & straightened the house up a little. Mon helped me pick tomatoes & cukes in P.M. Picked a bu. basket & a big tub of cukes. We went up town in eve.

Sun. Sept. 13
Cloudy & misty most of the day. Cleared off & was nice in eve. Dave was over in A.M. Johnnie came over & the boys went with him over to Gust's. They shot pigeon's at Gust's, Uncle Marion's barn & at Harold S.'s. Dorothy & Harold & Hazel B. were down & got a bu. of cukes in A.M. We went up to the Pavilion to the I.O.O.F. Picnic. Hot so many there as last year but quite a few. Had a good dinner. We got home about 3. Mon & I went over to Brayton's in eve to a surprise party on them on their 20th Wedding Anniversary. Very large crowd there. Got home about 1.

Mon. Sept. 14
Dandy nice day. Pretty warm. I washed in A.M. & canned tomatoes in P.M. The boys hauled manure. Mon went to B.O. in A.M. Mr. & Mrs. Prust & Zoa were here in P.M. They got some elderberries & cherries & stopped too call too. Rained in the nite again.

Tues. Sept. 15
Rained all day. Sometimes quite hard. I ironed & did other things. The men didn't do much of anything.

Wed. Sept. 16
Nice day. Much cooler. Mon & I picked tomatoes in A.M. I went over to Pearl's a minute in A.M. The boys hauled manure in A.M. Arthur went over to George's after dinner & then he drove Dave's car to B.O. for them. Mon went to Decorah with Howard in P.M. Pearl & the girls came over here. We picked the cukes for her. Mon & Dean went out at supper time & got 4 squirrels. We went up to Red's when they finished chores. He had an accident this P.M. His car tipped over on him & nearly choked him to death & bruised him up quite a little. Happy, Mrs. L. & Bea came along soon after the accident & found him. They took him to Decorah to the Dr. & had his cuts (?seered?) up. We left Dean up there. Pretty cool nite. Frost tonite but did no damage.

Thurs. Sept. 17
Nice day but cool. Mon & Arthur picked seed corn in A.M. They took me to Club at Alice S's. Stopped at Red's on our way up there. He is pretty lame. Alice had a good crowd & a nice lunch. Ruth Koenig was there & rode home with us. Cool nite.

Fri. Sept. 18
Cool day. Mon & Arthur went to John Steads early in A.M. to fill silo & they didn't get home until about 7. I was over to Pearl's a minute in A.M. & then she came over & we picked some elderberries for her. I canned 8 qts. of tomatoes. Isa, Lester & Loyal were here a few minutes at noon. I went over to Pearls in P.M. & helped pick over her elderberries. Grace & Leonard came up while I was there. Cool nite.

Sat. Sept. 19
Nice day. I scrubbed floors in A.M. An insurance man (Mr. Bogard) came in A.M. too sell insurance & stayed for dinner. Arthur took out some insurance with him. Dean came down a little while at noon & got some clean clothes. Mon & Arthur fix the barn yard fence in P.M. We went to B.O. in eve. Went past Red's & Bea & Dean went to town with us. Bea rode home with McCauley's. Dean came home with us. We took Henry L. home. It looked pretty rainy when we came home. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning but didn't rain. Mag. Gates died tonite about (?6?):20.

Sun. Sept. 20
Our 20th Wedding Anniversary. Beautiful day. Mon, Dean & I went over to Lovlien's & spent the day. We had a surprise on Mabel. Quite a few there. Had a swell lunch & a good time. Didn't get home until about 5:30. Olive & Marie rode home with us & Claude met them here & took them home. He & the little boys went to the ball game in P.M. Arthur & Johnnie went to B.O. in A.M. & then went hunting. They were over to L's. a little while.

Mon. Sept. 21
Pretty warm day. I did a little of everything. Dean was up to Red's in A.M. Mon helped Howard awhile in P.M. They picked seed corn in P.M. here.

Tues. Sept. 22
Nice day. Pretty warm. They started cutting corn here this A.M. Arthur took me to B.O. at noon to Mag Gates funeral. Philip, Florence E., Hazel Pierce & I sang. Louise played. We sang "Rock of Ages", "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" & "Abide With Me." Large crowd out. It was mighty warm in the church. Mabel Lovlien rode home with us as far as the school house. Little daughter born to Floyd & Gladys Blaess.

Wed. Sept. 23
Looked quite rainy in A.M. but cleared off & was nice in P.M. Quite warm until late in P.M. the wind changed to the north & it got quite cool. Arthur went up to Harold's about 5 & helped him do chores. He got home about 8:30. Mon & Dean were cutting corn. Papa & mama came down about 8:30. Papa & Arthur went to Decorah. Mama & I fixed tomatoes & apples too can. I canned 12 qts. of tomatoes. Made about 6 qts. of catsup & some apple butter. Papa & Arthur got back just as dinner was ready. Papa went out & picked up some corn for their chickens after dinner. They went home about 3. We went up town in eve. Bea rode up with us & Gordon rode back too. He had gone up with Jack. B.O. & Prosper played euchre at Gene's & both Henry & Gordon played so it was after 11 when we got home. Pretty cold.

Thurs. Sept. 24
Nice day. The men cut & shocked corn. I washed & ironed some in P.M. Bea walked down & we picked the tomatoes for her. She got a bushel. Pretty cool at nite.

Fri. Sept. 25
Rather cool day. Wind blew terribly hard. Mon finished cutting corn about noon & they finished shocking & tying about 4:45. I ironed in P.M. Went out to the field where they were working when I finished ironing.

Misty & rainy most of the day. Didn't do much of anything.

Sun. Sept. 27
Nice day but quite cold. We went up home for dinner. Came home about 5. Pretty cool nite, but no frost.

Mon. Sept. 28
Nice cool day. Mon & the boys got a load of corn in A.M. & in P.M. Mon went to Dave's too cut corn. The boys went hunting late in P.M. & got 6 squirrels. I gathered stuff from the garden. Dean went up to Bea's in P.M. & got some groundcherries. I went over to Pearls a few minutes in P.M. Isa, Lester & the boys were here in eve.

Tues. Sept. 29
Nice cool day. I washed & ironed. Mon cut corn at Dave's & Dean helped Dave. Arthur went to B.O. & John Stead's in A.M. He went to Ruth's about 2 P.M. to go too Cattle Congress with them.

Wed. Sept. 30.
Dandy day but cool. Mon & Dean were at Dave's all day. Mon finished tonite over there. I was over to Pearl's a minute in A.M. She & I & the little girls went up to the Lutheran L.A.S. at the church parlors. Agnes served. She sure had a big crowd. Bea & Alice A. rode home with us. I listened to the first game of the World Series this P.M. Giants 6 Yanks 1.

Thurs. Oct. 1
Nice day but quite a cool wind. Dean worked at Dave's. Gust was here in A.M. Mon & I went up home for dinner. Uncle Aaron was there too. Mon helped them saw wood there at the folks & also helped Min Gates saw wood too. I went too Club at Margaret Wards in P.M. with Ella Reed. Quite a few out & she sure had a good lunch. We got home about 5:30. Dean was home for supper. It froze tonite. Finished the gardens & melon's & such.

Fri. Oct. 2
Nice cool day. Dean worked at Daves & Mon cut corn for Red. We went to B.O. in eve. I listened to the 2nd Game of the World Series today. Yanks 18 Giants 4.

Sat. Oct. 3
Nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. & rained. Dean helped Dave in A.M. He finished there at noon. Mon picked up corn in A.M. Arthur got home about 9:30 & then he went out & helped Mon. They all went out after dinner but came in about 3:45 when it started to rain. Quite a bit of thunder & lightning. Yanks won in World.

Sun. Oct. 4
Not very nice day. Rather cloudy & cool. Mon & I went up town early in A.M. I went to S.S. & Church. We were up home for dinner & Claudes were there too. Dell & Mettie came in P.M. The men went to Mabel to a ball game. B.O. won. Yanks won again in the World Series. Arthur & Dean went hunting & fishing.

Mon. Oct. 5
Nice day. Mon went to Red's too cut corn but came home about 2. He couldn't cut any more. The boys & I went to B.O. early in A.M. & went to Decorah with papa & mama. Dean & I got our hair cut. We got back to B.O. about 12 & Arthur & I came on home. Pretty warm in P.M. Mon & Arthur picked up corn after they got thru' listening to the World Series. Giants won. Dean stayed up home too split wood.

Tues. Oct. 6
Nice day. Pretty warm. Mon & Arthur were over to Geo's. in A.M. & borrowed a sulky plow. Arthur started plowing in P.M. The Yanks won in the World Series today ending the Series & winning the Title.

Wed. Oct. 7
Nice day. Plenty warm. Mon went up in A.M. & got mama & Dean & then they dug potatoes. I washed. Mama helped me after she got here until noon & then she picked up potatoes. I helped some in P.M. Mon took her home about 5. Lester & the boys came down in eve & got mama's potatoes.

Thurs. Oct. 8
Mama's & papa's 4(blank)th Wedding Anniversary. Arthur plowed & Mon & Dean dug potatoes. I ironed in A.M. & picked up potatoes in P.M. Lovlien's came over in eve. The men went to B.O. awhile. We had a little lunch before they went home. They went about 11:30. Mabel is going back to Minneapolis tomorrow. Ed D. was here awhile in eve.

Fri. Oct. 9
Rather cloudy cool day. Arthur plowed all day. Mon & Dean finished the potatoes in A.M. We went to Decorah in P.M. Spent most of my time in Dr. F's. office. My blood pressure is up to 110 now anyway. Got home about 5:30. Mon went down to the Community Hall in eve with Howard to a political meeting. Mon got some money from the Estate.

Sat. Oct. 10
Quite a nice day but cool. Worked hard all day. Arthur plowed. Mon & Dean got corn. We went up town in eve. I went up to the Pavilion. Louie's Accordion Band played. They were sure good. It was pretty cold up there. Got home about 1.

Sun. Oct. 11
Nice bright day. The wind was chilly though. Francis & Ruth, Claudes, papa & mama, Dell's & Aunt Lissa were here & spent the day. Had a good visit. Francis wormed Arthur's pigs. The boys went hunting in P.M. Got some squirrels.

Mon. Oct. 12
Nice bright day but cold wind. Arthur plowed. Mon & Dean went up home & finished splitting the folks wood pile. Pearl & Verna were over in P.M. & got some green tomatoes & I went home with them too see Gladys & the baby. She is sure a dandy baby. Ed D. was here awhile in eve. Mon got some more money today from Stanley on the Estate.

Tues. Oct. 13
Not very nice day. Cloudy & cold. Mon & Dean started to husk corn this A.M. & Arthur started studying, but Rupert came for Mon too go & work his poll tax so he went over at McCauley's bridge too work & Arthur had to go & help Dean. I patched about all day. Got a letter from Warren & got more money on the estate making $300.63 in all. Mon went over to Howard's in eve & help him set up their heating stove.

Wed. Oct. 14
Another cloudy, cool day. Rather misty in A.M. early. Geo Snell's cattle shed & hay barn burned about 4 this A.M. No stock burned tho'. Our folks didn't go. So far away. Mon went over by Gust's too work this A.M. finished at noon. He came home & then we all went to town. Mon & I went to the Lutheran's L.A.S. Dinner. Sure had a swell feed & a very large crowd too. I stayed to the Sale in P.M. Bought an apron. Bea rode home with us. Got home about 5. Howard was here a minute in eve. Arthur took Dave's to B.O. early in A.M. with our car. He got home about 10:30 & studied from then until noon.

Thurs. Oct. 15
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Arthur plowed & Mon & Dean husked corn in A.M. & picked up in P.M. Mon & Dean took me up to Dorothy's at noon & she took Gladys, Alice & I to Club at Muriel T's. Large crowd out & we sure had a good lunch. Got home about 5. We went up town in eve. Arthur went too Lodge. I stayed at the store. Quite a few of the girls there.

Fri. Oct. 16
Not such a nice day. Looked pretty rainy some times, but it didn't rain so much. Mon went over to Chas. Burgess' & helped him dig potatoes. Arthur finished plowing that piece about 11:30. He & Dean finished picking up the corn in P.M. I washed & ironed. Lester was down in A.M. & got some hay from the stack.

Sat. Oct. 17
Cool, & dark most of the day. Cleared off late in P.M. Arthur worked for Dave in A.M. Shredded at Harry's. Mon & I went to Decorah about 11:30. Went up to the house about 2 too see Warren. He is here for today & tomorrow. Went back down town a little after 4 & stayed awhile. I got a new brown dress. Got home about 5:30 & Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Got home about 1.

Sun. Oct. 18
Dandy nice day. Quite warm. Mon & Arthur went up to Red's in A.M. & Dean went over to Howards. Mon & I went to Decorah to a movie in P.M. Went to "Rythym on the Range" at the Grand. It sure was good. "Bing Crosby & Bob Burns."

Mon. Oct. 19
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. The men all went to Howard's in A.M. too shred. I went over about 11:30 & stayed until about 5. Vera & Eda were there too.

Tues. Oct. 20
Nice & warm in A.M. Looked pretty stormy & sprinkled a little. Turned cold in P.M. & was quite cold & windy. Started to rain about 4:30 & kept it up all & on until eve. It rained hard then. Quite a lot of thunder & lightning. We were all over to Dave's shredding. Got home just before it rained. Audrey was there too helping. She is staying there now. Ed D. was here awhile in eve.

Wed. Oct. 21
Cold, cloudy day. We went up town about 9:30 & spent the day. I stayed at mama's.

Thurs. Oct. 22
Nice day, but rather cold. The men were at Fred W's. shredding until rather late in P.M. I washed & ironed.

Fri. Oct. 23
Nice, cool day. Mon & Arthur were at Chase's shredding all day. Audry & Maxine came over in eve & went to B.O. with us. The Lutheran L.A.S. had a play at the Hall. "Not a Man in the House." It was good. They had a good crowd too. Mon went to Prosper & played euchre. B.O. won the oyster supper. We got home about 11 & Mon about 12.

Sat. Oct. 24
Nice day but cold. Arthur went to Dawley's shredding for Dave all day. Mon & Dean didn't do much of anything. Mon has a cold. Henry L. & Will Erickson were here today renewing the Insurance Policy. We went up town in eve. Got home about 12. Pearl & the girls were over in A.M.

Sun. Oct. 25
Very nice in A.M. but clouded up about noon & was cloudy, windy & cold the rest of the day & nite. Dean went down to Claude's & spent the day. Papa & mama were down here & spent the day.

Mon. Oct. 26
Pretty cold early in A.M. but was a nice day only the wind was cold. We went to B.O. about 9:30 & got papa & mama & we all went to Decorah. Drove papa's car. Did quite a little running around. Got back to B.O. about 3 P.M. Came on home & had dinner & supper together.

Tues. Oct. 27
Nice day but cool. The men husked corn in A.M. & put the banking around the house, filled in the cellar way & put on the storm windows in P.M. I washed in A.M. Washed windows & ironed in P.M. Arthur, Dean & I went up to the school house in eve to the Hallowe'en Program. It was fine. Had a nice lunch too and a large crowd. Got home about 10:15. Howard was over awhile in A.M.

Wed. Oct. 28
Nice day. Cool. Mon & the boys husked corn. I did a little of everything.

Thurs. Oct. 29
Nice day. The men husked corn.

Fri. Oct. 30
Nice day. The boys husked corn all day. Mon & I went & got Bea early in A.M. & then on to B.O. & got papa & went to Decorah. We were supposed too get the furniture out of Dad's house but when we got down there Mr. Bench didn't have time too get it so we will have to go back again. Got home about 1. Had dinner & then Mon went out & husked the rest of the P.M.

Sat. Oct. 31
Rained most of the day. Sometimes quite hard. Cleared off some about dark & was very nice in eve. We went up town about 10. I went up home. Mon & the boys were there for dinner too. The Joan of Arc had their annual Oyster Supper at the Hall in eve. I went down to the Hall a little after 3 & started cooking oysters. Elsie, Miriam & I did that. Pretty big crowd I guess, at least they consumed a lot of food. Mon & the boys came home & did chores & then back up town again. Mon & Arthur came to the Hall for supper but Dean wouldn't. We got home about 11:30.

Not very nice day. Cloudy & rained off & on all day. Some thunder & lightning. Red & Dave were here awhile in A.M. Red got the mules too use awhile.

Mon. Nov. 2
Rainy, nasty day. Not so cold during the day but got much colder in the nite & froze up everything good & hard. Mon & the boys went up town a few minutes in P.M. Pearl was over in P.M. & Howard about supper time.

Tues. Nov. 3
Election Day. Cloudy, gloomy, cold day. Sun shone late in P.M. & it was a beautiful evening. We went up town in P.M. too vote. Quite a crowd in town. I went up home awhile. Pres. Roosevelt & Alf M. Landon were running for the Presidency. Roosevelt won by a landslide. I sat up until after 10 & listened to Election Returns.

Wed. Nov. 4
Dandy nice day. The boys & I went to Decorah in A.M. too get the furniture out of the Price residence. Mr. Bensch bought it. We had lunch at Mrs. Millers at noon. She was over at the house & helped us too. Johnson's have gone to Dubuque too live. Didn't get quite all of the furniture out today. Didn't get home until about dark. Mon didn't feel able too go with us. His hip hurt him so. Thawed quite a little today.

Quite nice in A.M. but clouded up in P.M. The boys husked corn. Mon was gone most of the day. Howard was over in eve. Thawed quite a little.

Snowed off & on all day. Not very cold. Didn't do much of anything.

Nice day. We went up home & spent the day.

Not such a nice day. The boys helped me & we cleaned the up stairs.

Nice day. We went up town in A.M. & stayed all day. Went up to mama's. Isa was there all day too. Ida Quandahl was there in P.M. Maxine rode home with us.

Nice day. Thawed quite a little. Mon & the boys husked corn. I washed & ironed.

Nice day. Thawed quite a bit. Mon & the boys husked corn. They went up town in eve. Club at Frances Miller's at Harmony today but I couldn't go. Pearl & the girls were over in A.M.

Fri. Nov. 13
Nice day. Thawed again. Howard was over & helped the folks husk corn today. He was over in eve too.

Sat. Nov. 14
Nice day. Got pretty windy in P.M. Dried the ground quite a bit today. The folks husked corn. Loyal came down in A.M. Dean & Mon went to B.O. in eve. Got quite a bit colder in eve.

Sun. Nov. 15
Nice day but cold. Lester came down in A.M. & got some hay & Loyal went home with him. Dean was gone most of the day & Arthur in P.M. Frank Gates was here awhile at noon.

Mon. Nov. 16
Dandy nice day. The men finished husking today. The boys went up to Red's in eve & on to B.O.

Tues. Nov. 17
Dandy nice day. The men fixed fence in A.M. & got the cattle down in the corn stalks. Arthur dragged road in P.M. The surveyors were working in the grove in P.M. & Dean & Mon were with them most of the P.M. I washed & ironed today. We went to B.O. awhile in eve.

Wed. Nov. 18
Nice day but colder. Mon & the boys were out with the surveyors most of the A.M. We went up home in P.M. & helped the folks set up their new stove they just got from Montgomery Ward. It is sure a nice little stove. Not nearly as large as ours. Lester & Forrest Nelson were here in eve. Lester sold Arthur a typewriter ($20). We got a new Aladdin Lamp at Ben's this P.M.

Thurs. Nov. 19
Not very nice in A.M. early but cleared off & was a nice day, but cold. We went to B.O. about 11 & then to Decorah. Went up to the House & got the rest of the furniture & things out. Mr. Neillson's were moving in there today. Saw Ruth & Oscar P. down town. We got home about 5. Audry & Maxine came over after supper & went to B.O. with us to a surprise party for Warren & Inez Harvey. (They are moving to Wisconsin). Quite a crowd out. Danced. Different ones from around B.O. played. We got home about 2. Charley Ryan was here in A.M. before we went too town.

Fri. Nov. 20
Nice day until late in P.M. it got pretty windy. Marion came over in A.M. The men worked in the grove in P.M. clearing up for the new road. Marion & the boys went hunting about 4. Loyal came down after school & stayed all nite.

Sat. Nov. 21
Nice day. The men worked in the grove most of the day. Ed D. was here for dinner. We all went up town in eve, but Arthur. Loyal went up to mama's & stayed all nite. We got home about 10.

Sun. Nov. 22
Nice day. Arthur & Dean went up town awhile in P.M. they all went hunting in P.M. too. Got a couple of rabbits & 1 squirrel.

Mon. Nov. 23
Not so nice in A.M. early but cleared off & was a nice day. The men worked in the grove all day.

Tues. Nov. 24
Nice day. The men finished in the grove at noon & went up town in P.M. Marion didn't come back with them. He went over to Albert's. Dean stayed up home for supper. Arthur went up town in eve. Chas. Wernett came along & went with him. The B.O.H.S. had an Operetta at the Hall. Geo. Wernett raffeled off some geese at Gene McCabe's in eve. It snowed in eve. Took our young goose up home for Thanksgiving. Little son born to Dorothea & Gordon Reid.

Wed. Nov. 25
Rather blustery most of the day. Rather cold. Didn't do much of anything. Little daughter born to Mr. & Mrs. Chas Wernett.

Thurs. Nov. 26
Thanksgiving Day. Not such a nice day. Snowed off & on all day. We went up home & spent the day. Claude's, Lester's, Dell's, Aunt Lissa, Aunt Candace, Aunt Till, Uncle Aaron & Ruth & Francis were all there. Sure had a good dinner & good time. Loyal came home with us. Cold nite.

Fri. Nov. 27
Nice day but rather cool. Warmed up some in P.M. Arthur took a load of corn fodder up tot he folks & we went up with the car. Loyal stayed at his home & didn't come back with us.

Sat. Nov. 28
Nice day. Rather windy. Didn't do much of anything in A.M. Mon & the boys cut wood in P.M. We went up town in eve. I went over too see Dorothea & the baby awhile. He is sure nice. Bea & Bertha Mc. rode home with us. We got home about 10:30.

Nice day. We went up home & spent the day. Lena & Clifford were there in P.M.

Mon. Nov. 30
Nice day but colder. We went to B.O. about 10 A.M. & got papa & mama & went to Decorah. We all had quite a little running around too do. I got a new pair of overshoes. We went over to Bill Erickson's & got a trailer on our way home.

Tues. Dec. 1
Rather cloudy & dark day but no so cold. Mon & Arthur went to Decorah about 8:20 A.M. took a hog down too have it butchered. They didn't get it butchered until late P.M. so it was after dark when they got home. Mart Leonhart was here in P.M.

Wed. Dec. 2
Not so nice in A.M. but was nice in P.M. Mon took the trailer back this A.M. & went & got Marion & bro't him over here too help build a shed for the cattle. Dean & I ground up lard & tried out lard & made sausage in P.M.

Thurs. Dec. 3
Snowed some in A.M. early but cleared off & was nice the rest of the day. Got much colder in P.M. Dean & I worked with the lard until about 11. Lizzie came over & went to B.O. with us. M.E.L.A.S. had their dinner & Sale today at the Hall. I helped carry coffee. Large crowd out. Marion didn't come home with us. The boys & I went back to B.O. in eve. Arthur went to Lodge & I went to a party for Hazel Pierce (at the Hall) but it didn't turn out very good. We got home about 11:15. Marion came home with us. Pretty cold nite. Frank Reed Sr. died this P.M.

Fri. Dec. 4
Nice bright day but rather cold & windy. They brought the lumber this A.M. & so the men worked at the shed all day. I washed. Dean was over to Howard's in eve.

Sat. Dec. 5
Snowed off & on all A.M. & harder in P.M. & eve. Snowed hard in eve. Quite warm. Arthur went to B.O. in A.M. Got home about 2:30 P.M. Dean went over to Howard's in eve. It got pretty cold late in the nite & the wind came up & blew hard. Billie Lange & Pauline Manning were married today at Lansing.

Sun. Dec. 6
Regular blizzard most of the day. About 10º below this A.M. early. Wind went down toward nite. Still cold. Marion went to Albert's in A.M. They couldn't get the car started so he had too walk. He had to be pall bearer for Frank Reed's funeral.

Mon. Dec. 7
Not such a nice day. Rather cold. Didn't do much of anything. Dean went up to Red's awhile.

Tues. Dec. 8
Rather cloudy, cold day. Mon, Dean & I went up to Red's after dinner & helped saw wood. Didn't take long & then we went over to B.O. awhile. Bea & Reed went along with us.

Wed. Dec. 9
Cloudy day again. Not quite so cold. Mon & I went to Decorah about 11 & didn't get home until about 5. Stopped at Mrs. Millers a while on our way home.

Thurs. Dec. 10
Nice bright day, but cold. We went to B.O. in P.M. & I rode over to Violet's to Club with Howard & Fern. Quite a few out. Election of officers today. Gerthrude Emmons Pres. Olive W. V. Pres. Lorna Prust Sec. Maude Jacobson Treas. Had a shower for Margaret Ward too. Had a dandy lunch. Got home about 5. King Edward of England abdicated his throne today for Wallie Simpson. His brother the Duke of York becomes King.

Fri. Dec. 11
Nice day. Not so cold. Mon & I worked at the meat most of the day. Canned 11 qts. & tried out lard.

Sat. Dec. 12
Dandy nice day. Papa came down in A.M. & they worked at the shed. Dean took some straw down to Mart L. in A.M. I washed & scrubbed & ironed some. Loyal was down awhile in P.M. Mon went to B.O. in eve.

Sun. Dec. 13
Dandy nice day. We went up home & spent the day. Olive & the kids & Clara & Lavon was there in P.M. Papa & Arthur went to the Hall too practice in P.M. Marion started for Montana this noon. Aunt Lucy isn't very well so he is going out there for awhile. Isa, Lester & the boys were down awhile in eve. Dean went over to Howards after they went home.

Mon. Dec. 14
Dandy nice day. Papa & Loyal were down today. (No school at B.O. for the little folks). The men worked at the shed.

Tues. Dec. 15
Beautiful day. Papa was down again today & they worked at the shed. He got in the ditch down by the corner when he went home & so papa & Arthur went down & helped him out & then they went on to the paving with him. Howard was here awhile in eve.

Wed. Dec. 16
Very nice early in A.M. but clouded over & got colder. Quite cold in P.M. Arthur went to meet papa in A.M. & they worked on the shed. Got through about 3 P.M. & then the boys took papa home. Mon was at Howard's sawing most of the day.

Thurs. Dec. 17
Not such a nice day. Cloudy & cool. Mon helped Harry saw until about 2 P.M. The boys & I went to B.O. & then to Decorah with papa. Got back up home about 12:30 & had dinner there & then came home. Mon & Arthur cut up a quarter of the hog & Mon helped me grind the lard & sausage. I got the lard tried out before bed time. Mon & Arthur went to B.O. in eve & Dean went over to Howard's.

Fri. Dec. 18
Another cloudy, cool day. Mon & Dean hauled up the wood they had cut. They had 8 loads. Arthur studied most of the day.

Sat. Dec. 19
Beautiful morning. Started too cloud up in P.M. & about 4 it looked like we were going too get a storm. The wind blew pretty hard from then on the rest of the nite. Cleared off in eve & was nice & bright. Mon & the boys went up to Red's awhile in A.M. Ed D. came about noon & they sawed our pile of wood in PM. Got thro' about 2:20. George W. & Harry Q. helped. Vera & the kids were here while they sawed. Mon, Dean & I went to B.O. in eve. Not many in town. We took Henry Lovlien most of the way home. Got home about 10:30. Walter W. was here with Arthur when we got home.

Sun. Dec. 20
Nice day. Stayed at home all day. Dean was over to Howards awhile in A.M. & then went to B.O. with Leonard a few minutes at noon. He went hunting in P.M.

Mon. Dec. 21
Nice day but cold. I washed & ironed. Papa was here a minute in A.M. Mon & the boys went to Prosper in A.M. They cut wood in P.M.

Tues. Dec. 22
Rather cloudy, gloomy, chilly day. We went to B.O. in P.M. and Maude, Violet, Olive, Agnes & I packed the Joan of Arc Xmas boxes & got them ready too send out. Got home & did up the chores & went back to B.O. again. Red rode up with us & he & Bea rode back with us. I went to the Xmas Program at the Lutheran church.

Wed. Dec. 23
Beautiful day. Nice & warm. Thawed a lot. I went up to the school house in P.M. to their Xmas Program (Mon took me & then went on to B.O.) It was just fine. Walked home. Got home about 3. Made Xmas candy after I got home.

Thurs. Dec. 24
Not very nice day. Misty & warm. Thawed a lot. Made Xmas candy again today. We went to B.O. in eve. I went to the M.E. Xmas Program. We got quite a few Xmas cards today. Maxine rode home from town with us.

Fri. Dec. 25
Warm Xmas Day. Not very bright tho'. We went up home & spent the day. Lester's were there too. Josie Lang was there for dinner too. She was taking the bus to Cedar Falls & waited there for it. Dean stayed up home.

Sat. Dec. 26
Rainy, nasty day. Warm though. I scrubbed in A.M. & we cut up our last quarter of pork in P.M. & we canned 14 qts. & I tried out lard. Didn't go too town in eve.

Sun. Dec. 27
Isa's 40th Birthday. We planned to go up there but it was too muddy. Much colder. Cloudy day though. Froze quite hard at nite. Charley Wernett came about 6 & said he was stuck & so Mon & Arthur went & helped him out. He stopped at the house & called Dr. Lannin as he came past. He had Ida Quandahl with him. Abbie has pneumonia & they had got Ida too care for her.

Mon. Dec. 28
Cloudy, dark, cold day. Niel Gilbertson was here awhile in A.M. We sold our hogs to Wickett & they came after them about 1:30. Mon went with the truck & then Arthur & I went with our car. Had too stop on the way to B.O. & help push Otto K. out of a mud puddle. I stopped at the folks & Arthur went on to Canton & Harmony. Isa was at the folks awhile too. Dean came home with us. It sleeted some in eve. We sold 24 hogs which weighed 6510 lbs. @ $10.00 per cwt. They brot $651.00 - $3 out for trucking leaving $648.00. The hogs averaged 271 ¼ lbs.

Tues. Dec. 29
Nasty, misty, rainy dark day. Not cold. Didn't do much of anything. Mon was over to Howard's in A.M. awhile & he walked to B.O. in P.M. Dean was over to Howard's awhile in P.M. Jack Whalen was here in eve. Pretty stewed.

Wed. Dec. 30
Misty & rainy all A.M. Pretty warm. Wind changed about 2:30 P.M. & it sure got cold in a hurry. Thermometer went down over 20º in no time. Didn't do much of anything.

Thurs. Dec. 31
Nice bright day but cold & windy. We went to B.O. about 11 & got papa & started for Decorah. Got down as far as Raymond Youngs & the car stopped. Arthur walked down to Aunt Lissa's & called Roy too come & get the car. Papa, Dean & I went down to Aunt Lissa's & waited until Mon & Arthur came with papa's car & then we went on to Decorah. Large crowd in town. Mon traded our cars off to Howard Bradley for a 1931 Chevrolet. Mon & Bradley came on with the new car to look at our 2 old cars & papa, the boys & I came on to B.O. with papa's car & then we drove it down home. We did up the chores & then went back to B.O. Lizzie came over & went too town with us. Arthur went to Lodge. I stayed at the store. Mon met us at B.O. (He had too go back to Decorah & take Bradley back there.) We got home about 9:30. Sat up awhile & listened to the radio after we got home.
